Is college mandatory in your nation: No

If college is mandatory what is the minimum age: N/A

If college is mandatory what is the punishment for evasion: N/A

If college is not mandatory, what percent of people decide to attend college: Around 40%

What percent of people decide to attend twice: We don't have statistics on that, but it's quite a low number - less than 10%

What percent of students drop out of college: About 20% drop out - 30% of Radiatians have completed degrees

How long is the vetting process for professors if one such process exists: There is so such process. Universities can hire and fire who they want at all.

Are private colleges permitted within your nation: Yes and the vast majority are private

Are education inspectors allowed to inspect professors: No - this only happens in primary and secondary education

Is college considered cheap or expensive within your nation: Mostly very expensive. The only people who go straight from high school to university are the rich, or people who take out large private bank loans (usually with heavy interest).

For most Radiatians, the way in is to do 18 months of military service and in exchange the federal government will pay tuition fees - this means that the average age of a first year university student in Radiatia is actually 21.

College Education

Is college mandatory in your nation:
No, college is for people who need it, if and when they need it. A person happy as a life-long trucker may finds he never needs it. A restaurateur may find she needs a business degree in her 30s in order to franchise out her establishment to investors, and that is when she will attend.
If college is mandatory what is the minimum age:
N/A.
If college is mandatory what is the punishment for evasion:
N/A
If college is not mandatory, what percent of people decide to attend college:
appx. 20% (at 14-18), appx 50% (by 18-118). College and University are set up to be accessible for all adult ages.
What percent of people decide to attend twice:
appx 50% return to further their education, and an additional 15% (of the whole) take enrichment classes of some sort.
What percent of students drop out of college:
appx. 5% to 7% initiates pursuing a degree drop. The low rate is due to how our academic system is structured.
How long is the vetting process for professors if one such process exists:
A Free College (Free as in Freedom) is vetted by the Students and/or local community over a period of 5 years.
A private college as instructed or set up by the Patron and varies.
A public college vetts the professors by the selectmen of the community over a rigorous 3 year ordeal. It is a badge of honour (literally, one is given) to attain such a Professorship.
Are private colleges permitted within your nation:
Yes. It is to be expected. The typical Gleisseran would not allow any one faction to monopolize education.
Are education inspectors allowed to inspect professors:
Any inspector, investigator, journalist, student, parent, or inquiring citizen may inspect their public institutions (including the professors, his/her papers and curricula) at any convenient time to be held them accountable for their deeds or any misdeeds.
Is college considered cheap or expensive within your nation:
The free flow of information, love of learning, competitive educational models, and rigorous education system make college very inexpensive, i.e., affordable and rewarding.

Education in Gleissar:
Since 1973 elementary, grammar, or academic schooling is compulsory for 9-14 year olds. However, those who fail to apply themselves are expelled. Children 9-14 who are refused entry into a compulsory school because of disruptive behaviour are sent to military academies.

Between the ages of 14-18 the young Gleissan either enters the workforce or goes onto Second School for two years (20% attaining a Bachelor of Liberal Arts within this time) or 4 years (10% attaining a Masters of Liberal Arts, or Bachelors in Science, Engineering, or Agriculture). 7% go on to attain a doctorate in their field. Those who do not attain their desired degree by the age of 18 may go on to college or university or take classes at any time during their lives (appx. 505).

Education in Gleissar is very rigorous. By the 8th grade the average Gleissaren is expected to have the equivalent of what passes as a High School education in nearly every other nation. By the 12th Grade of Graduation the equivalent of a liberal arts degree found in most of IRL US Junior Colleges. Those who enter the workforce at 14 may prepare for college later in life as the opportunity presents itself.

There are 13 premier and 25 state sponsored universities (land grant) with annexes and campus extensions in every major city. Each university is also a theological seminary. There are over 1200 colleges, institutes, and centers of higher learning through Gleissar serving those showing academic prowess from ages 14 onward although most are in their late teens or early 20s. As of 2010 the comprehensive literacy rate is estimated at 94%.

If college is mandatory what is the punishment for evasion: N/A

What percent of people decide to attend twice: 88% of the attendees went for further studies.

What percent of students drop out of college: 0.08%

How long is the vetting process for professors if one such process exists: Weeks of evaluation, followed by a few months of training for teaching and lecturing.

Report on College in the SC

College Education

Is college mandatory in your nation: ''Yes. The first time is usually provided for free by the state, but attending the college is obligatory, so a lot of students sleep in dormitories - some teachers also think, that ''sleeping in dormitories helps to raise the collectivist spirit between the students'', so they usually see little problems in this. First year of education can already open up a lot of doors for job opportunities, income, and let you to create a stable family, but further courses can move you all the way from prole class to elites, if you learn good enough, and prove your skills to Party's examiners. However, a lot of the graduates still are children of elites - they have had access to more money and opportunities in the first place.''

If college is mandatory what is the minimum age: ''Usually 19, right after high school. However, if a person is born in the first few or last months (Like December or January), it might differ a bit. Also, the age can differ between autonomies, regions, or even Commonwealth States, so it is one of the fields, where SC's government education system has failed to bring a single etalon, mostly due of SC's decentralization system, which mostly lets the regional warlords and governors set most of the laws and standards in a way or shape they like.''

If college is mandatory what is the punishment for evasion: ''The punishment is not a monetary one, but rather something different - those who evade college, are automatically classified as ''dropped out'' from State's colleges pretty much instantly. It too leaves them with little non-prole job opportunities, and doesn't let to move up the social ladder much. Also, those who deliberately evade college are usually despised not only by the society, but their family. In other words, evading a college is worse than dropping out at the end of the year, because then you at least will be congratulated for trying, and with those few bits you learned, you might have a chance to get some fortune though further self-education. In fact, even elementary school evasions are treated very seriously, and school is taken particularly seriously by students from newly conquered territories.''

If college is not mandatory, what percent of people decide to attend college: ''N/A''.

What percent of people decide to attend twice: ''Usually a completed college means, that your status is elevated at least to the middle class (Sometimes referred to as the ''Outer Party''), so some of the people don't attend college twice, as they feel enough with what they have got already. Some also fear failing, and wonder, of how did they pass it in the first time. Still, about 70% of those, who completed the college, attempt it again, in order to gain further knowledge and specialization in one field, and perhaps even get to the elite of the social class. When attending college for second time, past specialization of the study is taken into account, and particular curriculum is prepared. However, as with many things in SC, this greatly varies across regions - in the SC's Second and Third World (Also formerly called as the Disputed Zone) there is currently a reconstruction of infrastructure and order in general, hence the education process is somewhat limited. There are even higher standards for considering to have ''passed'' the Party's tests, as places for the elites are limited, and in regions like Middle East, school system in fragile. It also means, however, that a lot more people work in hard labor - either sowing carpets, building roads, working on oil/gas rigs, etc. For some, the work might last for years, and take the best life years away from them, and when they are in their 30s-40s, there is little energy left for studying, and body has been pretty broken at this point. Hard labor is all they would know.''

What percent of students drop out of college: ''Once again, this highly depends on region. Dropping out of state colleges is not always the matter of poverty, as some of the proles have had bright heads, yet some of the elite children were dumb as bricks, despite all the money and efforts that went to them. Overall, in SC's Canada and SC's America, about 8-10% drop out of college. However, the rate can also be higher in individual Commonwealths and regions - for example, about 20% drop off from colleges in New Guinean region, for an example. For sake of statistics, average arithmetical of all SC's Commonwealths is 14%. However, they don't end up on streets - there is always job in factories, farms, mines, and so on, as we can't stand vacuum. You will just need to work heavy manual labor, or some other ''dirty'' job, if you aren't physically strong. Child labor is also pretty widespread there.''

How long is the vetting process for professors if one such process exists: ''The minimum time amount of vetting process is at least 6 months, as background checks are a thing, which SC's facilities take seriously. In some cases, the time is even a year or two, and even after the vetting process is over, the rest of School's administration (And by extension - The Party as well) will continue to monitor the professors for any possible indications of dissenter thought, or illegal actions. In fact, not only professors are under surveillance, but students as well, especially with the rise of internet in our world - social media is monitored regularly.''

Are private colleges permitted within your nation: ''No, no, no. SC's governments view higher education as something, which should be under control of the state. Also, private schools would most likely have their own special rule set and perhaps a different curriculum as well. Of course, curriculum is different across regions, and some of party's colleges specialize in other fields, but we seek to somewhat standardize the system. Also, as we not only have a state planned economy, but government is attempting to own basically everything in one way or another. Private colleges would be a threat to our monopoly in education, just like a private business would be a threat to state company monopoly, and anyone suggesting private colleges would be seen as supporter of ''laissez-faire claptrap''. ''Everything Within a State, Nothing Against the State, and Nothing Outside the State'', after all - our President-Governors follow that.''

Are education inspectors allowed to inspect professors: ''Yes, of course. After all, some form of monitoring the work of the professors is needed. That said, the system still has loopholes in the newly developing regions, and some have also attempted to bribe the inspectors. While similar cases from students are rarer (As they just don't have as much money as professors do), there have been recorded some cases of this. However, punishment for corruption remains high, sometimes perhaps even resulting in a loss of a head.''

Is college considered cheap or expensive within your nation: ''Well, obviously yes. The state provides first part of college for free, even though the price is still high, if you fail the tests- you will work off all your fats. Of course, if you want to specialize further, it starts to cost some money, but still is overall cheap. Also, we don't allow private schools, which would have costed more, so the cost of education is not someone should be complaining about. Not so good bathrooms, beds, computers, school uniforms, not so healthy food etc, on the other hand...''

This nation doesn't represent my views

IRL views: not much different from 4 years ago (socdem)

Tom being a control freak + pathological distrust of private enterprises = this nation

College Education

Is college mandatory in your nation:
No, but as the Blanji economy rapidly shifts to more and more intellectual and information technology-based fields, it’s practically a necessity.
If college is mandatory what is the minimum age:
If an individual has enough high school credits, they could theoretically attend at any age.
If college is mandatory what is the punishment for evasion:
N/A
If college is not mandatory, what percent of people decide to attend college:
Recent reports indicate around 84% of the Blanji population have at least attended college.
What percent of people decide to attend twice:
An estimated 45% return for a second year.
What percent of students drop out of college:
Of everyone who reported they attended college at least once, 31% of them reported dropping out at one point or another
How long is the vetting process for professors if one such process exists:
For the standard college, professors undergo rigorous training and screening to ensure only the best possible professors are available. Ivy League schools are staffed by some of the best professors in the world, with some colleges and universities even importing professors from foreign nations to teach at their schools.
Are private colleges permitted within your nation:
Technically, yes. However, like public schooling, all colleges and universities in Blanjiland are owned by the Thorbecke Trust Corporation.
Are education inspectors allowed to inspect professors:
Of course. Any professor who perform poorly several academic years in a row may be subject to both private and public investigation.
Is college considered cheap or expensive within your nation:
The Thorbecke Trust Corporation provides free tuition for Blanji citizens, and exceptionally low rates for foreign nations that agree to allow them to open schools in their nation as well.
An Oligarchic state where the ultra-rich govern a nation of entrepreneurs and innovators. Just as corrupt, hedonistic and materialistic as you think, despite its progressive policies and emphasis on quality of life.
