What is your primary news source?

Postby San Lumen » Sun Dec 08, 2019 7:56 am

I am curious what people’s primary news sources are. Mine is ABC. I watch the local news almost every night at 11 and sometimes earlier at 5 and 6 and usually watch This Week on Sunday’s on ABC. I occasionally watch CNN.

I like my news the old fashioned way. Someone sitting at a desk reading me the news. No pundits, no analysis no ticker at the bottom of the screen.

I also read USA Today frequently.

What is your primary news source?

I usually get my news from three different sources:

  • TV,
  • the Internet, and
  • the local paper.

TV-wise, it'd be a choice between the BBC, al-Jazeera & CNN.

Internet-wise, it'd be the BBC, the Guardian, NYT, and pretty much whatever I can get my hands on.

Weirdly enough, I got most of my news from NationStates itself, because either the news will be newsworthy, or that the source will be hunted down and shown to us.

Before I got into NS, I guess Reuters for me. So far, their reports are top-notch with little to no bias or opinions. It's just facts. I forgot the word for it. It's like.. they are reporters, not opinion pieces. Then again, this was back in 2010, and it's been a while since I last got into Reuters, so... take whatever I said with some salt.

I knew about Reuters because when I bought a Windows Phone back in 2010, I got like a month-long subscription of Reuters sending SMS news tidbits to me. I searched more and more, and decided that they are a pretty good source of news.

-----

With that said, I would personally say that I look at different sources and come to my conclusions. My primary news sources are some specific sub-Reddits, as well as TV, and like I said, NS. I also looked at CNN, Fox, Channel NewsAsia.... Vice, RT...... hell, maybe even Buzzfeed or InfoWars, just basically every news outlet under the sun. Because sometimes, even the unreliable sources might be useful in an ironic sense that they indirectly showed you their implications.

It's hard to describe that last bit. It's like... you know a news source can be unreliable, but even from an unreliable source you can potentially learn something... maybe 60% of the time. On their agenda, their bias, their skews. Not every news source is reliable 100% of the time, but you can surely work out something with it!

With that said, when it comes to reliable news... I know NationStates, Reddit, or Reuters will deliver. Mostly.

I mostly get news through a local newspaper, La Vanguardia (it is one of the few newspapers in Spain without an overt bias, even if it's not exactly neutral either) as well as NationStates, human rights organizations such as HRW, and even RT when I want to know Russia's position on something. For really major world events, I sometimes resort to popular international media such as BBC and NYT.

I don't. Having one source to rely on causes bias and misinformation. Whenever an event happens, if I feel up to it, I normally search up multiple sources and try to connect the dots.

Like, really, imagine if I only watched Fox News, or CNN, or Buzzfeed. It would change my opinions on a matter, wouldn't it?

It's a shame that I haven't found one news source that is completely unbiased. I watch BBC News a lot and I see the BBC website often but the BBC seem to be biased somewhat even though they claim to be impartial...well they're funded by The UK Government so there probably is bias, I don't think they would want to report news that would upset their own Government otherwise their funding would obviously go down. I also watch RT News to find out the deeper meaning in Western News when I find Western News to be biased...RT is of course probably biased towards The Russian Government. I read 'The i' Newspaper and 'The Times' Newspaper and I look at 'Guardian' articles...all of them have their biases...The Guardian seems to be left-leaning, The Times seems to be right-leaning & The i Newspaper claims to be free from all Party Political Influence but I doubt that. So to answer your question, my primary news source is The BBC but I don't believe everything they say (I have scepticism) and the way they kept thrashing Libya's former leader Colonel Gadaffi was shameful journalism...they seemed to show unfair and heavy bias towards the vicious NATO allies in 2011. Also, my parents escaped the Ceylon Civil War in the 1980s and I there are hardly any News Sources that report accurately what happened during the battle between LTTE and The Ceylon Government...my mum told me that when her family were escaping for her life and when she was listening to the radio, the radio said that the so-called 'Indian Peacekeeping Forces' were "keeping the peace" and just targeting the LTTE...however, mum says that the Indian Peacekeeping Forces were actually much more brutal and thuggish than what the radio was portraying them to be...and she would know better than the reporter on the radio, because she was right in the thick of it!!!

Mainstream media is biased as hell. If you want any idea of what's going on in the streets, watch someone's live stream or even better, be there at the moment.

I know what's going on in the Lebanon protests because I've seen it livestreamed and personally know people out in the fields right now. Not because ABC or CNN have a damn opinion.

Ah yes, the news site that would have you believe that brown people cross scorching deserts and high mountains just to kill the first white man they see when they cross the border.

I still remember one time when I saw a story on Breitbart about immigrant riots in Sweden and yet I saw nothing on any other site about it and didn't see any videos of it on YouTube either. And yes, there have been riots in sweden, but that specific incident did not happen. There's no proof anywhere except breitbart

Oh for sure. You gotta understand everything you see on the media is heavily biased in favor of big business and the government

Remember when the K files hunted a man down for making a meme about them? Or when they played the edited tape of George Zimmerman sayinf "he looks suspicious, I think he's black" (they cut out the part where the 911 operator asked him what race the suspect was).

CNN seem too biased in their hate against Donald Trump. I don't agree with his policies, but the bias from CNN against Donald Trump is crazy lol...my dad and I were just watching in almost utter disbelief with how many times they kept bashing Trump over and over again when there were so many other more important issues going on in the world.
