Which Poland was the best?

When we look at the history of Poland, it is long and complex with multiple forms. Which one does NSG think is the best?

In my humble opinion, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was the best Poland for it brought prosperity and democracy to Eastern Europe, Polish or otherwise. But what say you NSG?

I’m not particularly knowledgeable on Poland’s history or when it was at its "greatest", whether that be territorial size, culture or how good the life of the average Pole was. Out of lack of knowledge, I would say the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was when Poland was at its greatest, due to how powerful the actual country was until it was ruined by the Germans, Swedes and Russians.

I’m personally a big fan of Poland, though, despite having only visited it once (Kraków). I find Polish a really nice language and Poles to be a genuinely nice people from what I’ve experienced.

Also, Królewiec >> Königsberg >> Kaliningrad.

Congress Poland after November Uprising Ok in all seriousness the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was the only good iteration of the Polish State imo. It is, in addition to being a curious anachronistic entity in its time, a very interesting topic to study.

The 2nd Polish Republic had the best possibilities for its time, in the terms of how history could have went - success in the development of the Międzymorze as a reiteration of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth could have very well steered the fate of Europe and the world at large into a more tempered, conservative atmosphere with its own checks against the socialist and fascist precedents of its time. Of course, that didn't happen.

You could say modern Poland is the "best", but like the Germany thread, this is ultimately a subjective question based on who likes what traits of certain polities the most, whether its human rights, military strength, or territorial expanse. I would argue for either the Commonwealth or modern Poland in this regard.

I personally would’ve loved Prometheism succeed to some capacity and/or the establishment of the Internarium. Unfortunately, however, history wasn’t so kind to either idea.

Definitely the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. You can't beat elective monarchy, winged hussars, defeating the Muscovites and the Ottomans, being one of the most progressive and tolerant European countries, and being the second country in the entire world to have a democratic constitution, first in Europe.
