And some do live like that, frontiersmen, pioneers, carrying on an ancient way of life.

Others might liken them to modern Kazakhs or Mongols, people far outside the hustle and bustle of the West.

Shamsiyyans tend to be viewed as a friendly, chaotic bunch of desert people who value their own, millennia-old culture high, but are still very open-minded and don't hesitate stating their opinion and standing for it, even if it means, that organized resistance is needed to get one's point across. People from abroad often tend to assume, that döner kebab is the Shamsiyyan main course (which might be true in parts), while there is no good party without some Raki or wine. Many also perceive Shamsiyyans to be horrible drivers (which, again, might be true in parts). Shamsiyyans are also said to be multilingual and surprisingly good at almost any language one hears them speaking, even though they tend to keep expressions rather dialectal and colloquial.
And more than 1200 years after the First Intifada, there are still people from abroad who end up surprised, that Shamsiyyans aren't Muslims, but Pagans.

Those who know them more deeply, or have fought them, know them to be unyieldingly passionate about whatever they adopt as part of their life. Many business visitors interact with the subculture where this attitude produces absolute workoholics. In other cases, this passion could be as sports fans, anime fans, lovers, or any combination of these and other things. This attitude is summed up in the Maizanese proverb "Kinbu sa trali ritsa yupanren,"Half a heart holds no blood"

In general, foreigners would probably regard Ausonians as reserved, calm, firm yet soft-spoken, pious, and cultured (basically a Victorian-ish person with 21st-century sensibilities). Above all else, they value and cherish their own country, the Consitution, and their institutions of government, all forged in pen and battle throughout the centuries from the 17th century to 1848, leading to a very independent streak. They are also said to be well-versed in a number of languages (mainly French, their local language, a classical language (typically Latin, Greek, and/or Hebrew), and an international language like English). They would also be well-known for their artistic and creative sense (the closest in this regard would be the French (though the Ausonians would find their centralized state and enforced laïcité to be a tad off-putting)).

Primitive

International discourse is, for the most part, dominated by first-world nations comprised of technologically-sophisticated societies.

Brellach is none of those things.

The Brellachi have little interest in gadgets, as a whole. Even ignoring the ~60% of people who live among nomadic tribes, and focussing on the so-called city-dwellers, most people don't have electricity or any kinds of 'gadgets', and that is largely by choice. Brellachi believe that technology takes something away from people, and harms the natural environment, and prefer to avoid it if at all possible.

While they aren't backwards to the extent that they believe in magic or actively rebuke scientific discoveries, they are simply uninterested in technology and its development.

Unfashionable

Clothing is optional in Brellach, and a large proportion of the population takes advantage of that fact. The vast majority of tribals (who in turn constitute the vast majority of the population), do not wear clothes, and find the concept largely absurd. A large proportion of city-dwellers feel the same way, and only wear clothing when necessary for safety or practicality reasons. Only in the northernmost regions, where it is considerably colder, is clothing commonly found.

The clothing they do wear is generally practical and dull, in muted, earthy shades of green and brown and with little in the way of adornments, even among the rich. The Brellachi believe that the human body is the final, and most perfect creation of their goddess, and so the idea that humans might somehow be able to better that creation with baubles is bizarre to them.

Those same religious beliefs lead Brellachi to avoid contaminating their bodies with artificial substances where possible. This means no perfumes or soaps. Brellachi are hygienic to a fault, as 'my body is my temple' is taken almost literally, but they choose not to spray themselves with deodorant or wear makeup. To foreign senses, of course, this sort of thing has become an anathema in recent years.

Earnest

The Brellachi attitude towards life and social interactions can be best understood by learning their own language, which is a highly-descriptive, highly literal language. Translating Brellachi into English gives uniquely straightforward terms; the name of the building in which Her Court - the Brellachi equivalent of a legislature/cabinet - resides, for instance, translates into English as "The Building of Her Court's Residence". The Brellachi word for 'computer' translates literally into English as "Machine That Counts on its Own".

This is likely because, by and large, the Brellachi themselves are straightforward. They say what they mean. They mean what they say. They are less concerned with ego than many. Ask a Brellachi how they're feeling, and they'll tell you - for better or worse - in specific detail. You cannot ask a miserable Brellachi "how are you feeling?" and not expect to hear exactly what's causing them to feel miserable and why, even if you're a complete stranger to them, nor can you ask the same of a generally-ecstatic Brellachi and not expect to hear about everything good that's happened to them to make them feel that way, often in excruciating detail. To the Brellachi, everybody is a potential friend, and they are unconcerned about showing emotion or weakness, and they feel like honesty is preferable even if it's offensive to some.

They aren't prone to lying or prevaricating, and the concept of a 'white lie' is largely unheard of. If a Brellachi thinks you look ill, they'll tell you so. If a Brellachi thinks you're a wonderful person, they'll explain as much in embarrassingly-endearing terms. If a Brellachi is proud of something they've done, they'll explain it to you, while if they're ashamed of something, they'll freely admit it.

While there are outliers in all cultures, by and large, if a Brellachi says something to you, they'll say it plainly and you should feel confident that they meant it.

Religious to a fault

Brellachi are, generally speaking, extremely religious, and extremely dedicated to their faith. Everything they do, say, experience, and understand is through the lens of their religious beliefs. It is a country governed by what they believe to be the living embodiment of their goddess, after all.

Almost everything the Brellachi think can be traced to their religious beliefs, for better or worse, be it their views on clothing and materialism, their views on the environment, or on how they treat and interact with other people. Leaders of the largest family businesses in the country will abandon projects if it emerges that such projects could go against their beliefs, for instance. And as said, this is to a fault, and sometimes to their own detriment.

Brellachi spirituality does not, however, include anything about proselytising. While speaking to a Brellachi might involve hearing a lot of references to their goddess or the wishes of such, at no point will they attempt to convince you to believe them. To the Brellachi, worship of Her Divine Glory is an innate, deeply personal experience, and it's not one that they expect foreigners to understand.

Even if they won't shut up about it.

Tolerant

The concept of intolerance is not alien to the Brellachi, but it is 'unfashionable'. It is a rare Brellachi who'll hate you for being different. And given that they 'say what they mean', you can tell as much.

LGBT rights, for instance, is not a hot topic in Brellach, and no subculture exists around it. When asked "what rights do gay people have?", a Brellachi will scrunch their nose and ask "what do you mean?" Their religion teaches that love is pure, regardless of its source or destination, and gay people have never been differentiated in that regard. The same is true for different ethnicities and abilities. While Brellachi believe themselves to be "Her Favoured Children", they refer to all of humanity as "Her Children", and regard them as brothers and sisters no matter what. Being "Her Favoured Children", to them, means that they have extra responsibilities, not that they are superior.

Brellachi are human, of course, so outliers exist, but for the most part they believe that all of "Her Children" are beloved and the result of their deity's will. It is a rare Brellachi who will treat someone poorer for being different. The entirety of the Brellachi nation is built upon The Compact, after all, which requires the tribals and city-dwellers to adhere to a 'live and let live' philosophy. Their entire society exists in peace precisely because they have agreed to abide differences, and - so they believe, at least - this was the proclamation of their deity.

Hard-working

One of the side effects of their rejection of technology is that the Brellachi are compelled to undertake laborious work. While most people will admit that they wish they didn't have to, they will also admit that they feel enriched for the experience.

As a culture the Brellachi do not shy away from effort. Sometimes this is to their own detriment - technology is, after all, a way of making difficult tasks more efficient.

Family/tribe orientated

After Her Divine Glory and the Divine Queen (whether they regard those entities as being the same or not), a Brellachi's first loyalty is either to their tribe or their family.

The nomadic tribes of Brellach are most closely compared to primitive communists. They do not understand currency, and all resources are made available to whoever needs them. While they aren't utopian by any stretch of the imagination, Brellachi tribes are at least supportive and loyal to one another. Some tribes are better than others at extending this to outsiders - some are highly insular, and will turn away anybody who asks them for help, while other tribes will help literally anybody who seems to need it regardless of which tribe they've come from.

Among city-dwellers tribal allegiances are less important (or not important at all), and capitalism is abound, but those allegiances have been transferred to family units instead. Families are close-knit and loyal, and even the most extended relatives will support each other in times of need in much the same way as the tribes do. Once again, this is to a fault - family members who never contribute anything at all to the rest will still be supported.

Curious

Perhaps as a result of their historic isolation and limited access to information sources like the Internet, or just because of the novelty of it all, Brellachi tend to be curious about foreigners whenever they meet them. Since Divine Queen Lyta began trying to improve Brellach's economy by promoting international tourism, foreigners visiting the country have often found themselves followed around by locals who've been desperately curious to find out everything they can about them.

Many Brellachi are intensely curious about how people outside of "Her Favoured Lands" live, even if they find themselves in disagreement with every answer they receive. They may have different individual reasons for this attitude, but the end result is an almost-infuriating torrent of questions about almost every subject, aimed at anybody who'll be patient enough to answer them - and those answers almost always receive a similarly-expansive tree of follow-up questions.

Fortunately, very few Brellachi actually speak a foreign language, so unless the tourist in question speaks Brellachi or has an interpreter present, these questions generally don't go anywhere.

If they are familiar, then a citizen would probably be seen as very rigid, reserved and formal but polite.

Basically, we look scary and savage on the outside but we're actually extremely refined and cultured once you start talking to us.
