A Fantasy Region set in the Age of Pike and Shot
Vreya, a land of rugged mountains and green valleys, or rolling plains of golden wheat and long grasses, a land that both feels the south winds warm kiss and the might of the cold north winds gales. It is a land of extremes, a land of conflicts, a land where men, elf and dwarf shed their blood as the aeons pass playing the great games of nations and empires.
It has been over one thousand years since the death of the Elasi Empire that was once the pride of the elven people, destroyed by an alliance of Humans and Dwarves who had lived for centuries under the elven whip. Now the continent is fractured as new ideas struggle for dominance with the old. In the central regions of the continent the loose collection of states known as the Cimborman Empire struggle amongst each other as religion and race slowly threaten the foundations of an empire that has stood for almost a thousand years. Farther to the north the religious heart of over half of Vreya wrestles with itself as priest grow dissatisfied with Ecclesarichal control.
New technology also has changed the world, the use of gunpowder has changed the face of warfare and threatens the old social order. The printing press has lead to the common people having access to books and information has become readily available. A rising middle class struggles to find its place in a society that has been dominated by nobility for over a thousand years. To the west a new continent has been discovered, a land of savage beauty, an untamed wilderness that beckons to Vreya like a light in the darkness. To the east the lands of the orient also tantalize with their wealth of gold and spices, the allure of exotic empires from the states of Qey to the Yellow Coast.
This is a time of great change in the world, men will rise to meet the challenges as a new age comes upon the world. Nations will fall, empires will rise. Who has the strength and will to ensure that their people survive these turbulent times?
What is Vreya
Vreya is a low fantasy role play region where the state of the world roughly resembles the age of pike and shotte here on Earth Eroupe. Vreya is but one continent of three that make up the world and is the analogue for Europe. Our focus is mostly upon Vreya and its people as of now, with the possibility that once Vreya gets filled in the rest of the world can be used to make nations.
RP in this region is to mostly focus on the men and women who have to live in these times, from the mighty kings to the lowly peasants. The scope of RPs in the region can range from massive wars that last years to a single meeting between kings that lasts but a single night.
This region is currently still in a very intensive stage of world building and as such much is still not completely written down and exists in various forms in google docs. This should not be a deterrent to you if you would wish to join, instead we feel that this is the best time form some one to join.

Everyone who wishes to join Vreya need to fill out the sign up application below. This will not only help judge the quality of you as a writer, but also allow us to figure out how your nation fits into the lore and how you are as a RPer. Below is most of what you need to know about the world as it currently stand. As of right now there is still much world building to do, but this should give you a good enough understanding of the world to make your own nation.
Magic
Magic is indeed a force in the world. It is a tool, both powerful and dangerous in the wrong hands. Magic in Vreya takes two forms, the natural and the artificial but no matter what form your practice magic is the manipulation of what is known as the Sublime Fabric.
According to the Faith of the Empire the goddess Ennis made a great fabric upon her loom for the universe her Husband Othnic had created.This is the Sublime Fabric, it ties all thing to each other, from the smallest parts of reality to the mighty and the physical to the metaphysical. When the Goddess Vreya created the Three mortal kindreds it was the Elves that she gave responsibility to look after the Fabric. Elves in turn used their gifts to conquer most of the continent that has Vreyas name. Men in turn through the introduction of Elven blood have gained the ability to manipulate the Fabric in there own way.
The first way to manipulate the Fabric is often called natural magic, or elven magic. This method uses chants, ritualistic dances and the consumption of certain potions and the right alignment of stars and even the geometric lay of the land to bend the fabric just so slightly to get a desired effect. The natural magics however lack the ability to kill a person. You can use it to curse someone, bring or take away rain or cause a horde of locust to attack another village. But never will natural magic directly kill a person.
The second form of magic is Artificial Magic. The magic, unlike natural magic does not require the level of ritualism that the natural magics have. This is the primary magic used by humans. Quicker and more reliable that natural magic artificial magic requires very precise combinations of movement, words and in most cases a crystal if some sort to manipulate the Fabric. To make a mistake in any step of a single spell has the chance to lead to disastrous results. This has proven to be the largest drawback to the entire form of magic. As it stands using artificial magic in any capacity other than simple enchantments on weapons and armor is too dangerous. [box]
[box]The Races
Elves: Elves, tall,graceful and long lived the elves are a race in persecution. 1500 years ago they controlled most of Vreya, an empire the likes of which haven't been seen since. But their rule was cruel, enslaving most of the human race within their borders. This empire burned in the fires of revolt and the elves drowned in there own blood.
Today elves live in most nations of Vreya, concentrated in cities in ghettos. A few elves have made nations for themselves, but those are far and few between. Culturally most elves have adapted to living in nations rules by men, some even taking the religion of men instead of there old Faith's.
Men: Men, the most populace race of Vreya. Men have conquered and migrated there way across most of the know world, diversiving and adapting along the way. The men who live on the continent of Vreya however have spent that last millenia mixing there blood with elven blood resulting in men who can use magic.
Dwarves: A short and stout race the Dwarves have ever been welcome in most parts of Vreya, this is in part to the aid they lent when men rebelled against the Elves. Dwarves are a crafty race, with nimble fingers and keen eyes they are often seen employed as craftsmen, Dwarven fire arms in particular are highly praised item amongst the noble classes. Culturally Dwarves tend to assimulate into whatever human culture they happen to be in, even within there own homelands in Vreya they tend to speak the Cimborian Tounge. There are some peculiarities to note however. Dwarves are meticulous record keepers, more so than any other race. Genealogies, banking transaction and the everyday life are all tracked. Dwarves themselves have forgotten why they do this.
Dwarves, while the live as long as men, are prone to a more aggressive form of arthritis. With older dwarves being hardly able to move, this along with the Dwarven hair and skin turning grey as they get older have lead some to belive that the Dwarves turn to stone as the get older.
