"Lemme' us tell ya' the story of aspiration, tyranny, and then retribution. For many years, since Enthorea was created by merging of five colonies, it was just another backwater pisshole with poverty and violence. It was... until the 30s came. Many artists, scientists and other intellectuals fled from Stalin's USSR, Fascist Italy, and such... They fled there, as this was a place, so backwater they wouldn't be found there. That was a start of cultural uplift. Then, World War 2 started, and many scientists fled with their knowledge from Third Reich.

This influx caused a rapid rise in culture and science, and by 50s, Enthorea became a Mecca for philosophers, artists and scientsts. Breakthroughs happened on frequent basis, many finest musical songs were written, and countless books of high quality filled the bookstores. By the 60s we almost became world benchmark at science and art, and the education system was among the best. However, all our aspirations crumbled to dust, when Vicarius Dei Edgar, that clerical fascist and his goons came to power.

Edgar came, backed up with foreign mercenaries and religious fanatics, and since we were pacifist folks, who never expected such a thing, and even almsot didn't have military, he easily forced his regime on us. This was an age of terror. Artists and sicentsts were killed on a daily basis, and their books were burned methodically, while the rest of us were oppressed by Church, Police and Corporations, who sucked our resources and attempted to indoctrinate our next generation. In 20 years, only half of population remained, and we decided, that enough is enough. We all calculated, that there are two choices, to fight and have a very slim chance to victory, or to let ourselves succumb to a slow and painful genocide. We tried a velvet revolt first, but it was gunned down, and those who survived... they wished they were dead, as they were tortured.

We decided to fight, and started a real revolution. People just took out their improvised weapons and attacked cops right on the streets, looted them for weapons and continued their violent spree. The disorders turned into a revolt and full fledged civil war. We had countless disadvantages, and like this wasn't enough, foreign fores intervened and tried to surpress the revolt. But we defeated them all. It was an extremely violent revolution, which resulted in a country almost reduced to ashes.

But the most important part, is that we have changed beyond recognition.

Because of those horrors, under that facade of constant drunkiness and hedonism there are deep scars and severe pain, that still echoes. It twisted us and turned into what we are now. Our culture was pushed back by many centuries, and this is why it may not appear upscale enough for you. We have still fully retained enhanced intelligence, our ancestors possessed, although, it became more of an instinct nature. Only toughest of us survived those years, which explains, why Skyhookers are generally tough as hell and can take harm that can kill ordinary people. Deeply in our hearts, we still harbor the fury, that led us during the revolt, and it's vestiges are that thing, that makes us fight better.

We are hedonists, mindless in the eyes of many, because more enlightened culture was obliterated by Edgar, and the self-discipline was enforced on us, so our hearts mostly reject it, in cases it's not absolutely necessary for survival or gains. And like the ancestors, we are fully accepting and even xenophile folks."-Old man Finn
