Glasic PM Resigns

PM RESIGNS

In a shock move the Glasic Prime Minster Aisling Fitzgerald has resigned from office citing in a preplanned statement an inability to properly manage the deteriorating situation in Occupied Vyzhva specifically in regard to the systematic forced relocation of tens of thousands of ethnic Vyzhvans from the Jedorian zone of occupation in what amounts to ethnic cleansing of the region in preparation for annexation. With several thousand of these Vyzhvan refugees being transported to the former Vyzhvan exclave of Targan where members of the VU alongside Menghean and Themiclesian humanitarians are in the process of improving conditions to something more akin to Tír an Crainn than those found in the former Vyzhvan state.

It is expected that Ms. Fitzgerald will meet with the Queen later today confirm her resignation. Until such a time that a leadership vote can be scheduled, the 33-year old coalition deputy leader Caoimhe Lynch (Labour) will take over as interim Prime Minister.

VU Issues Ultimatum to Jedoria

Postby West Atlantia » Fri Aug 30, 2019 10:52 am

VU ISSUES ULTIMATUM TO JEDORIA
Cohabit with Vyzhvans or face the consequences

As expected further announcements on the deteriorating situation in north-eastern Vyzhva have been made, culminating in an ultimatum from the six VU states who have unanimously condemned the actions of the Jedorian government, denouncing its quasi-imperial ambitions and treatment of ethnic Vyzhvan citizens citing that Jedoria has threatened to undermine over a decade of progress made between the VU and Jedoria in the years since its civil war but moreso the peace between it and Tír Tairngire.

The VU speaker carried on, announcing that all VU-funded programmes and economic aid to Jedoria (the value of which is estimated to be in the region of $17Bn) which has been flowing since the end of its bloody civil war will cease unless the Jedorian government promptly ceases its policy of forced relocation and annexation. The speaker went on to imply that refusal or the ignoring of the ultimatum would result in further action being taken.

PM Daichi Noru addresses press on Vinyan events
Shock rolled through Tir Glas, Dayashina, and the world as Aisling Fitzgerald, the longstanding Prime Minister of Tir Glas, resigned only days ago over a stated "inability to adequately manage the deteriorating situation in occupied Vyzhva." Furthermore, the VU as a whole has issued an ultimatum to Jedoria to stop mass ethnic relocation of Vyzhvans for annexation, stating that such actions threatened to undermine decades of improvement in VU-Jedorian relations. Furthermore, the VU threatened to pull the entirety of over 17 billion dollars worth of aid going to Jedoria as relief from their recent civil war.

With all this occurring over the course of only a week, the Dayashinese government has scrambled to respond to all of it. Prime Minister Daichi Noru delivered a statement, expressing that he was "saddened" to hear of Fitzgerald's resignation as the Prime Minister of Tir Glas, given how closely the two have worked over the past few years to bring Dayashina and Tir Glas ever closer, and Fitzgerald's unwavering commitment to integration between Tir Glas and Dayashina. The Prime Minister also expressed his extreme dissatisfaction with the actions of the Jedorian government in Vyzhva. He reinforced his sympathy for the plight of the Vyzhvan people, and equated Jedorian treatment of Vyzhvans to "what would have happened if the Maracaiban proposal for Dayashinese occupation" had gone through. In a separate speech, he reinforced Dayashina's commitment to stability in the region and it's mutual treaties with Tir Glas, shortly after announcing an expansion to the Dayashinese Vyzhvan Aid Package.

Coalition-occupied and Jedorian-occupied Vyzhva
Sources within the Republic of Dayashina Army and Republic of Hanhae Army have confirmed a joint increase in commitment to border security between Coalition-occupied Vyzhva and Jedorian-occupied Vyzhva. Reports claim that over 1,000 troops have been called out of urban relief efforts to the border with Jedorian-occupied Vyzhva. Furthermore, an undisclosed number of F-80s and Dayashinese IAe Huntresses have been re-activated and distributed amongst joint bases in Vyzhva and Vinya as a whole.

General Yutaka Iwabuki, the supreme commander of the massive Republic of Dayashina Armed Forces Vinyan Detachment, reinforced the Prime Minister's earlier comments by reaffirming the RDA's commitment to absolute security within all of Vyzhva, including the Jedorian-occupied end of it. He remarked that the media should not get ahead of itself in overanalysing the situation, as large troop movements in Vyzhva have been happening frequently and regularly over the course of the last year, and that the recent movements were simply undertaken in response to recent happenings on the international stage and to reinforce the will of the Dayashinese government. Iwabuki expressed his "deepest hope" that the fighting in Vyzhva has come to a complete end, and that "rampant actors" within Vinyan politics do not make the plight of the Vyzhvan people even more catastrphic.

The battle hardened soldiers of Dayashina had been in constant contact with home for about 2 months, as fighting came to a halt and efforts were refocused towards relief and aid for the Vyzhvans. Unfortunately, it was short lived, as a shroud of silence has appeared to come over the Dayashinese forces in Vinya once again, as tensions between the Coalition and Jedoria slowly begin to rise, neither side seemingly backing down from their convictions.

Image
Dayashinese soldiers in the Melna Rail Station
Over the past couple of months, the Republic of Dayashina Army's primary objective in Vyzhva has been the delivery and support of relief, reconstruction, and aid to and for the Vyzhvan people. After widespread missile attacks and tooth-and-nail urban fighting, cities laid crumbling. Hundreds of thousands of Vyzhvans found themselves homeless, with their villages or other engulfed in the fighting during the war. Infrastructure and public centers, then used by the Zayetist Army, had been destroyed utterly by Coalition forces in order to deny them movement. Government buildings, distribution centers, and quality of life facilities were defunct. Many starved, more thirsted.

Thankfully, Coalition relief efforts have been largely able to turn around this grim image that was Vyzhva just months ago. The collective funding of the Vinyan Union, Dayashina, Themiclesia, Menghe, and various other nations have been brought together to re-secure the lives of Vyzhvans and to begin an uphill effort to rejuvenate the Vyzhvan economy and introduce the Vyzhvan people to a higher quality of life than the awful conditions that they experienced under the Zayetists. The RDA has worked hand in hand with organisations such as the Benevolent Sun Charity to deliver tens of thousands of tonnes of food, drink, and other important commodities to the Vyzhvan people, and have been involved in the reconstruction, improvement, and modernisation of Vyzhvan architecture and infrastructure.

The RDA reports that it remains committed to the global vision for a prosperous Vyzhva, and will not leave until the situation in Vyzhva is properly handled, with the Vyzhvan people finally enjoying a more than acceptable quality of life.

The people of Dayashina are fully behind the people of Vyzvha. We have struggled as you have, and we will make sure you, too, survive, and come out stronger than before. The Zayetist scum have been crushed, we vow to crush those who fill their place in oppressing you.

Director Kuusik criticizes “Complete lack of dialogue” with VU, other states over Vyzhvan controversy

Image
Director Kuusik delivered a harsh rebuttal in a press conference earlier today

STRANA MECHTY – Following a series of high profile diplomatic incidents involving the Vinyan Union and the resignation of the Glasic Prime Minister, Director of International Relations Verner Kuusik sharply criticized the actions of the Vinyan Union and its allies for their actions, stating that “no attempt at a dialogue has been made” regarding the ongoing situation in Tamar, territory that was annexed from Vyzhva by Jedoria following the invasion of the rogue state earlier this year.

Kuusik directly addressed the member-states of the Vinyan Union, who up until recently were considering strong partners with the Jedorian Federation, calling their actions “deplorable and shortsighted.” Kussik claimed that there had been no attempt by any nation of the VU to open talks with Jedoria. “Not a single member state of the Vinyan Union has attempted to initiate a dialogue with the Jedorian government in order to ascertain the truth regarding ongoing events in Tamar. Not even a diplomatic cable has been sent beyond the sudden and abrupt threat to cancel all forms of economic aid, in what is an extremely vapid turn of events. Rather, it appears the governments of several sovereign nations have seen fit to completely buy into the words of online news article and accusations leveled by a less than credible non-government agency, without so much as a single word spoken to any of our ambassadors or embassy staff. This blatant disregard for the norms of diplomacy flies in the face of what has otherwise been years of successful and peaceful political endeavors between Jedoria and the VU. I frankly cannot fathom why the VU has chosen to throw away years of peaceful relations and open dialogue in favor of such sudden and short-sighted knee-jerk reactions.”

Kuusik went on to criticize the non-government organization and self-described watchdog group Allied Citizens for it’s “damaging and untrustworthy reporting” on the situation in Tamar. “Allied Citizens has accomplished nothing but to spread lies and disinformation regarding the situation in Tamar. It has completely fail to make mention of the dozens of Jedorian government and military personnel that have been killed or wounded while attempting to bring stability to Tamar, nor has it mentioned the extensive humanitarian efforts the Jedorian Federation has embarked on. Rather, it has chosen to ignore the context of the situation in favor of pushing a narrative that paints Jedoria as a violent aggressor rather than the truth. This is shameful display on the part of Allied Citizens.”

Director Kuusik went on to state that Jedoria would remain committed to open dialogue with it’s neighbors and strategic partners, and insisted that a diplomatic resolution was still possible despite the ongoing tensions. “While we are appalled by the actions of the international community in a rather blatant disregard for the norms of international relations, Jedoria remains willing to discuss the ongoing situation in Tamar and work towards a resolution that benefits all parties involved. The Federation remains committed to peace and stability in Vinya and the world at large.

VU Criticises Jedorian Criticising

Postby West Atlantia » Sun Sep 01, 2019 2:39 am

VU RESPONDS TO JEDORIAN CRITICISM

In response to Jedorian claims that worries about the northeastern region of Vyzhva are unfounded and fuelled by fake news the VU has informed the members of the coalition about the deteriorating situation in Vyzhva and issued a video statement with more sanitised content to the national broadcasters of the nations within the VU as well as RTG International and moving to call for an emergency meeting of the Septentrion League.

The address including detailed and annotated photo-reconnaissance imagery of areas of Vyzhva close to the Jedorian border showing the area before the conflict, after the cease fire and then over the past several weeks, annotated on each of the images was the destruction en masse of Vyzhvan property, larger than usual concentrations of Jedorian troops and above all else in the past week a column of refugees travelling west complete with farm animals, belongings and vehicles in what was unmistakably a forced march out of Jedorian occupied territory.

The address further highlighted the differences between the zones of occupation, noting the reconstructive and rehabilitory efforts in western and southwestern Vyzhva and the integration of the exclave of Targan into Crainninc society with travel between the two states having become a possibility in July, the call for Jedoria to cohabit the occupied territory with the Vyzhvan people was again mentioned citing the lack of violence in Targan since the ceasefire and the ongoing dialogue between the interim government in Melna.

The address concluded with a warning from history from the invasion to reclaim historic Jedorian territory in Tír Tairngire in 1961 and border skirmishes of the 2010s and a warning about being deceived by mis and disinformation online and that further announcements would be made after a meeting of the Septentrion League had been held.

Plan for more modern schools system

Plan for more modern schools system

MALJUBAV, Minilov — The new school year starts on 2 September and for secondary schools this means the new modernisation changes kick in. The aim of Education Minister Mrs Anjela Osoba is to ensure pupils make the right choices and cut the number of children leaving school without a diploma.

Two million schoolchildren return to school on 2 September. In secondary schools attempts are being made to ensure all children start in the right type of school to avoid what happened in the past: pupils first starting in a general education class, failing and ending up in a vocational school.

In the future, all pupils start secondary school in similar classes. The goal is to attain an A-certificate. If they fail, pupils can then switch to classes preparing you for vocational schools. Initially, all pupils have 27 identical hours of schooling. Schools can vary the other 5 hours e.g. to beef up a lack of Letnian or test stronger pupils with Sylvan. Greater differentiation starts in the second year.

The goal is to allow children to make a more balanced choice for their future schooling at the end of their first year two years of secondary school and to pick schooling that suits them and at which they stand a good chance of succeeding.

The modernisation drive will affect the first year of secondary education this year and progress to affect both the first and second year next year.

Alcohol lobby blocking health policies

Alcohol lobby blocking health policies

MALJUBAV, Minilov — Research undertaken by the Septentrion Health Organisation reveals that the average person drinks the alcoholic equivalent of over two bottles of wine each and every week. Themiclesia, Meinkraft, Paragania and Reberiya lead the alcohol ranking. Minilov only features on the 10th spot, but of course this is only an average. The SHO figures show Casaterrans heading the world ranking when it comes to alcohol. Each day 800 people die due to alcohol-related circumstances. The SHO is now asking national authorities to implement stricter policies.

Health Minister Heather Vrijeme isn’t surprised by the figures: "Sound policies can ensure that alcohol consumption falls, but rising living standards means more people are drinking in Eastern Casaterra." The situation in Minilov hasn’t improved in contrast to neighbouring nations. Here alcohol consumption remains stable, though problematic drinking among men has risen to 49,8%. Alcohol consumption among youngsters has risen too. Minister Vrijeme says there's a simple explanation: "Minilov has no alcohol prevention policy. Reasons are always found not to implement one."

She says three measures are needed: "Prices need to go up. Advertising needs to be banned or restricted and availability needs to be curtailed." Minister Vrijeme believes a new minimum age of 18 needs to be introduced for alcohol, sales at petrol stations need to be stopped, while 24 hour availability e.g. at night shops needs to end. She blames Minilov's alcohol lobby for failure to make progress. "Minilov is a beer country. It’s world heritage. The authorities pocket a lot of revenue in duty. Health policies strand against the industry interests. Health policies are blocked by industry."

BREAKING NEWS: Ostlandic patrol boats fire on SFA Trisk

Image
Sebrenskiyan police move to coordinate localized evacution

PANCEVO, Sb - Sebrenskiyan Water Authorities have confirmed that the Trisk, a riverine patrol boat, has emitted distress calls after being attacked by 'at least two' Ostlandic patrol boats, the first time in over a decade that conflict has been seen on the waterways which make the Sebrenskiyan-Ostlandic Border.

Though the Sebrenskiyan MInistry of Defence has declined a request to comment, multiple military vehicles have been seen leaving the city of Pliska, presumably heading towards the confrontation. Other social media reports seem to suggest that the Army Naval Port of Prosi has had a series of military vehicles suddenly enter the area, and that civilian cars are being turned away a kilometer up the road.

The Ministry of Transportation has ordered a mandatory evaucation in a five kilometer radius around Port Prosi. National authorities across the border are preparing for Evacuation Plan Anna to be issued, in the event that this goes off hand. Defence experts note that this is likely unnecessary, considering the Ministry of Defence has yet to lower the War Condition, which currently sits at four.

Skirmish on the river

While border skirmishes and disputes are not new to the disputed river that acts as the border between Ostland and Sebrenskiya, fresh reports of a series of skirmishes breaking out certainly does alarm the Government. While little is known of the current situation, reports of gunfire from residents close to the river, aswell as noticeably higher military traffic raises concerns amongst the local populace. While the Ministry of Defense and the Government at large has not provided a statement as of yet, it is clear by the high military traffic and evident reports of skirmishes that another border skirmish has broken out. While seemingly not major, tensions have run high between Ostland and Sebrenskiya for almost a decade now, with a Proto-Arms race having been in place. Several popular OSINT accounts on Zwitschern have noted through satellite photos, aswell as Social Media posts from locals that the 13th Panzergrenadier Brigade based in Mjors has entered a higher state of transit and readiness, with Social Media posts showing several columns of Panzer 88A3 Main Battle Tanks travelling down roads Northeast. Additional Social Media posts show higher air traffic, with the roar of jet engines booming through the sky throughout the day. While none are really certain of what is bound to happen, concern is certainly high and anxiety is certainly as high aswell.

Skirmishes prompt evacuation

With reports of skirmishes breaking out flooding in, local authorities, including Public Transportation, Police, and Fire have announced the beginning of local evacuations along the bank of the river, with the evacuation applying twelve kilometers from the bank inwards. While it is logical for the evacuation to occur to ensure civilians are not harmed or in danger, one other reason is to most likely cover military movements more effectively and to ensure rogue social media posters do not begin flooding their feeds with positions. The 13th Panzergrenadier Brigade, being closest to the skirmishes has filled most roads of the Autobahn with military traffic as last seen on Zwitschern.

HAPPENING NOW: RIVER CLASHES BETWEEN OSTLAND AND SEBRENSKIYA

Local social media claims this is the Trisk burning in the river

PANCEVO, Sb - Sebrenskiyan Water Authorities have confirmed that the Trisk, a riverine patrol boat, has emitted distress calls after being attacked by 'at least two' Ostlandic patrol boats, the first time in over a decade that conflict has been seen on the waterways which make the Sebrenskiyan-Ostlandic Border.

A Crisis Unfolds: The SFA Trisk Sinks

The Sebrenskiyan Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the SFA Trisk has sunk into the river, killing four of its crew. The other 8 of its crew have been rescued by additional riverboats. The Sebrenskiyan Ministry of Defence has warned civilian traffic to stay away from the area, to avoid mis-identification and being attacked. Sebrenskiya has issued a general call to arms: telling current Active Reservists to make their way to military installations. Unconfirmed reports from the Ostlandian media claim that there are tanks moving in the City of Mjors, the largest Ostlandic city on the river.

Sebrenskiyan MOT crews have extended the emergency evacuations to 25 kilometers from Port Prosi, and has initiated certain emergency evacuation procedures, turning Federal Highway 91872 contraflow to the North, prohibiting all southbound traffic towards Port Prosi. Military personnel are assisting local police in the evacuations.

Air traffic has been prohibited in a 100 km radius around Port Prosi, as military aircraft look to secure the airspace around the incident. Aircraft inbound to Pliska International Airport are being re-routed to Kyustendil and Pancevo international airports, in order to avoid conflicting airspace incidences.

Skirmish on the river

With reports of skirmishes on the river, the sound of gunfire has slightly intensified, with the last Social Media posts trickling in via Zwitschern OSINT accounts, clearly showing Panzer 88A3 Main Battle Tanks of the 8th Manoeuvre Brigade transitting along the Autobahn North to the river. While no official Government statement has been issued on the matter of the 8th Manoeuvre Brigade's sudden deployment and alert status, reports are also trickling in that Reservists, of which are registered upon reaching the age of eighteen, have received notifications to prepare to report to their Brigade mustering areas. While rare, several videos have been released of some of the combat in the area, while there is no visual recordings of the engagement, gunfire could clearly be heard, with several seconds of footage showing several Combat Boat 90s with clear Ostlandic markings darting towards one of the capsized riverboats. Evidently on alert, the turrets of the CB90s were scanning the otherside of the river, occasionally firing a burst of M2HB .50 calibre Heavy Machine Gun fire to suppress suspected Sebrenskiyan shooters. The last section of footage clearly show Ostlandic soldiers on board the Fast Attack Craft pulling men from the river onto the vessel, and swiftly retreating back to the Ostlandic bank of the river. While this is all that is shown, the sound of gunfire can still be heard as it is assumed that skirmishes will continue into the night, the 8th Manoeuvre Brigade as far as anyone knows has been deployed from Mjors to the engagement area. Updates will be provided as the situation develops, god willing this does not escalate beyond a skirmish.

HAPPENING NOW: SEBRENSKIYAN MINISTRY OF DEFENCE ANNOUNCES THE END OF THE SKIRMISH

Ostlandian Troops Fall Back: Army reels from casualties

The Ostlandian Army has fallen back, confirmed by the Ministry of Defence. It is not exactly know for what reason, but a multitude of low-flying military aircraft were spotted approaching Port Prosi at supersonic speeds. Explosions by locals were heard for over 10 minutes, some even claiming that tanks were firing at the river. Ostlandic social media confirms that there were multiple tanks present in the area.

The Army confirms that the SFA Trisk, SFA Lakiriya, and SFA Pancevo have sunk, claiming 16 lives. Sebrenskiyan Defence officials put the casualties at 85, the highest seen since Sebrenskiyan Air Defence Forces mistakenly shot down an Ostlandic Airline in the 1960s.

The Ministry of Defence has dropped from War Condition 4 to War Condition 3, causing unease throughout the country. Its not exactly clear what caused this: Sebrenskiyan and Ostlandic relations had been thawing since the 2013 terror attack in Ostland.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been terminated, and Federal Highway 91872 has been reversed to all southbound lanes, and will remain reversed until Midnight Sebrenskiyan Federal Time.

Breaking: confrontation in River Anonoma

BY TELEGRAPH • Shots have been fired and troops assembled by Sebrenskian and Ostlandic forces this (September 9) afternoon, sources in the foreign press say. Pictures of a ship on fire has been seen on the Internet, though the locale and identity of the vessel remain unconfirmed. The Foreign Office states that there indeed have been some sort of confrontation in River Anonoma, the wide and heavily utilized river that also is the border between the Federal Republic of Ostland and the Republic of Sebrenski.

As is publicly known, the two nations implicated by the incident are ill-at-ease with each other after the end of the Great War, mainly around rights over the River Anonoma, which was let by the fascist Ostlandic regime to Yugoslovenski to terminate hostilities in 1943. The recipient has subsequently claimed that the current Ostlandic government is not a successor to the fascist regime and thus not entitled to its recovery, after the term of ten years has elapsed. This press notes that the current Ostlandic government has honoured all debts incurred by the fascist regime and has accepted responsibilities for its actions in other manner, but Sebrenski has not made other claims against its fascist past.

The two nations have each prosecuted their respective claims, though the status of the river seems to have been stable since the end of the Great War. The Foreign Office believes that there are no significant Themiclesian interests of a public nature in the region or that could conceivably be damnified by the incident but will be "monitoring developments intensely". A travel advisory to both states will issue should the confrontation not reach a stable resolution, the FO says.

Official statements released: reluctance to negotiate responsible for River incident

"We think the incident on the River Anonoma is attributed to a history of reluctant and insincere negotiations on both sides," the Foreign Office's spokesperson averred to the press just now. "The satisfactory resolution of the differences between Sebrenski and Ostland is not only beneficial for their respective economies but a bonus to the world in general."

The Themiclesian government has reportedly made representations to both governments, urging strenuously clarification and negotiations, but it has left the question of any foreign involvement unanswered.

"We think the immediate parties [Ostland and Sebrenski] have the responsibility to their citizens towards maintenance of the peace and a situation which is most beneficial to them. This is the duty of any government towards its citizens." The spokesperson further emphasized.

In view of unconfirmed stories on the Internet, accusing either party of opening hostilities against the other, the Foreign Office's statements clearly implies blame on whomever breached the peace in the first instance.
This is in accord with the department's long-time policy advocating for status quo and the peaceful resolution of all differences. This press also notes that the River had been a major freight highway for both parties, and the Foreign Office is very likely to imply that as the earlier and more preferable state than hostilities, which presumably will either stop commercial traffic or delay their passage.

Tamar’s native population reduced to one quarter, says watchdog group

TAMAR, JEDORIA – Tamar’s native population of ethnic Vyzvhans has dropped by 75%, the watchdog group Allied Citizens claimed earlier today. According to Spokeswoman Ona Vidzickaite of Allied Citizens, less than a quarter of Tamar’s native population of ethnic Vzyvhans still remain in Tamar after months of what Allied Citizens has called a “deliberate campaign of forced relocation”. According to Vidzickaite the Jedorian government’s attempts at altering the ethnic makeup of Tamar was just the first step in a campaign designed to colonize the newly annexed territory.

The Jedorian government has sharply criticized the statements of Allied Citizens, saying that the non-government organization has deliberately printed false statements and misrepresented the situation in Tamar to further a political agenda. Internal Affairs Director Virginijus Didrikas stated that Allied Citizens has constructed a false narrative surrounding the situation in Tamar. “The Jedorian government has done nothing to force ethnic Vyzhvans from their homes beyond standard security measures. Allied Citizens has intentionally misled the public by stating these were acts of ethnic cleansing.” The Director went on to say that Jedoria’s intentions regarding Tamar was peaceful and would continue its efforts at rebuilding Tamar’s shattered infrastructure.
International response to the situation has varied. Sebrenskiya has voiced support for Jedoria while the member states of the Vinyan Union have largely condemned Jedorian actions and have threatened to withdraw aid money. The Jedorian government has sharply criticized the VU’s response, namely its alleged failure to directly contact Strana Mechty regarding the ongoing events in Tamar and the accusations leveled against Jedoria. Director of International Affairs Verner Kuusik has maintained Jedoria’s innocence through this and has called upon the international community to adhere to nominal diplomatic protocols.

The Jedorian government went on to announce that it was withdrawing 5,000 personnel of the Internal Affairs Bureau form Tamar, stating that the security situation had stabilized, while denying any involvement in the claims of Allied Citizens. The Bureau stated that it would remain committed to ensuring a peaceful future for Tamar and all of Jedoria, and encouraged and end to overt military actions in Vyzhva intended to intimidate the Jedorian Federation.

Peace activists arrested at Sjevernate weapons fair

SJEVERNATE, Minilov — Four Minilovan peace activists were arrested outside the Sjevernate weapons fair where the security and defence expo, the SSDE, opened on September 13th. This annual fair is an opportunity for the national weapons business to show off its wares.

All week long dozens of demonstrators have been protesting outside the SSDE and trying to block roads in a bid to delay the organisation of the fair. Minilovan peace organisation Akcija Za Mir is represented. Three Minilovans were arrested on Saturday and taken to a police station.

50 businesses are represented at the arms fair selling products that range from guns to tanks. The Minilovan peace organisation Akcija Za Mir says the fair is controversial: "The most important customers are military delegations from other nations including regimes that violate human rights or involved in a conflict."

Coast-bound D3 expressway closed at Kademija

Coast-bound D3 expressway closed at Kademija

KADEMIJA, Minilov — An accident involving ten cars has closed the coast-bound carriageway of the D3 expressway at Kademija in Domora province. Four of the vehicles involved in the accident caught fire. The fire has since been put out. Two people were slightly injured in the crash. The closure of the expressway has led to huge tailbacks with those wishing to drive to the coast being subject to delays of around two and a half hours.

Those wishing to enjoy today’s fine, sunny weather at the seaside are advised to seek an alternate route as traffic on the D3. The accident happened on Sunday morning just beyond the Kademija interchange. The expressway was closed and traffic diverted. The emergency services say that they are working flat out to try and clear at least one lane of the expressway so that it can open to traffic as soon as possible.

The close of the expressway has caused a long traffic jam on the coast-bound carriageway. Meanwhile, there are also delays on the Maljubav-bound carriageway as drivers slow down to see what has happened. Those wishing to reach the coast (or Spajanje) from Trziste or Maljubav are advised to follow a parallel road.

Minilovan police impound record amount of criminal funds

Minilovan police impound record amount of criminal funds

MALJUBAV, Minilov — Minilovan police seized a record 13 million rubles from criminal gangs in 2018. One single complex fraud dossier led to 7 million being impounded. Drug-related crime is becoming one of the most important fields of activity for Minilovan law enforcers. The 13 million is a big increase in comparison with 2017 when only 6,4 million euros were seized. And 347 serious criminals were arrested, up from 297 the previous year. In all 2 tons of marihuana were recovered from some 300 cannabis farms. Combating organised criminal gangs is taking up more police time. Seizing funds generated through drug and people-trafficking is a priority. Minilovan police intend to step up co-operation at home and abroad involving foreign police forces, the customs and local police. Minilov’s geographic location in eastern Casaterra serves as a pull on cross border criminality.

Smoke detectors obligatory on 1 January

Postby Minilov » Sun Oct 13, 2019 6:40 am

Smoke detectors obligatory on 1 January

MALJUBAV, Minilov — Three years ago the government of President Yaroslav Miher decided to make smoke detectors obligatory in all Minilovan homes. Smoke detectors have been obligatory for rented accommodation and new homes since 2013. Soon the obligation is being extended to all homes in Minilov. The government decided on the requirement in order to reduce the tragically high number of deaths in home fires. By international comparisons, Minilov performs badly. During the past five years, there were between 53 and 77 deaths in home blazes each and every year. Fire experts point to the poor safety culture in Minilov. Many people don’t think it can happen to them.

Mass checks on whether or not you have a smoke detector installed are not expected. The presence or absence won’t affect your home insurance either. When purchasing a smoke detector make sure it’s one with a battery that has a life of at least ten years. That makes life easier. Install a detector on every floor and on the route from bedrooms to the front or back door.

Smoke detectors in kitchens, bathrooms and garages, places where fires often start, aren’t always a good idea because of frequent false alarms. It’s better to install detectors in adjoining rooms. Detectors in rooms with a dryer or where you charge your phone or electric bike are a good idea as well because fires often start here too.

More Minilovans caught speeding

More Minilovans caught speeding

MALJUBAV, Minilov — During the first 9 months of 2019, close to 1,5 million speeding offences were recorded on Minilovan roads. The figures come from the National Police Service and appeared in this weekend's edition of the Minilov Korrespondent. Never before were so many motorists caught as in the period between January and September 2019. During these first 9 months of the year, the police issued 1.466.390 speeding fines.

Most tickets were for motorists caught speeding in Uplaninama province (+7.7%). The sharpest rise in the number of motorists caught speeding was in the City of Maljubav, where 28% more speeding fines were issued during the first 9 months of this year than was the case during the same period in 2018.

Interior Minister Mr Ioan Pekmez responsible for this police action told the Korrespondent that: "The reason why proportionally so many more speeding motorists are caught in Uplaninama than elsewhere in Minilov is that there are more speed cameras and speed traps along Uplaninaman roads."

Furthermore, "In recent years more has been invested in automatic systems such as trajectory speed control. However, this would appear to be necessary given that the number of road traffic deaths rose during the first nine months of the year. Excess speed is the cause of one in three fatal accidents," Mr Pekmez added.

Minilovans spent over 100 million on prostitution last year

MALJUBAV, Minilov — For the first time on record, Minilovans have spent over 100 million rubles in the prostitution industry in the span of just one year, the National Bank has calculated according to a report in the Minilov Korrespondent.

The National Bank sent researchers to red-light districts across Minilov to count the number of clients, in order to make an estimation. "That we are now passing the threshold of 100 million, is mostly due to inflation and the rising population," says Mr Giorgo Sciot of the National Bank. "The sex industry turnover is just as much part of the Gross Domestic Product as services supplied by bakers or butchers," he underlines.

Last year's figure is +7% compared to 2017. The National Bank took into account many forms of prostitution: classic window prostitution, intimate massage houses, private clubs, and escorts. Classic window prostitution still accounts for the highest number of cases with more than 50%. Digital sex services provided by webcams, for example, could not be included in the research.

Sociologist Mr Stepan Andrasj of Kademija University, who cooperated in the research, says countings were performed using people in the field, supplemented by CCTV footage. In order to know how much someone paid, they didn't use the prices listed by sex workers, but the data reported by clients on specific adult websites.

A private visit by a sex worker turns out to be the most expensive, with 58 rubles on average. Window prostitution will set you back 37 rubles on average for one visit. In 2018 the National Bank counted 2,5 million clients spending this amount.

Health Minister Mrs Heather Vrijeme declined to comment but published a shocked on social media. "The math is shockingly simple. You have 2,5 people out of 6,2 million population visiting a prostitute. This means 80% of 3,1 million men are disrespecting our Orthodox values!"

Miher recovering from illness

MALJUBAV, Minilov — President Yaroslav Miher is “OK and well,” the presidential press office said on Monday, despite the 54-year-old leader’s admission that he suffers from a disease that can potentially have serious complications. Questions about the president's health have swirled since he took office in 2015. His occasional skipping of events and meetings, as well as him discussing his ailments, has only added to the speculation. The presidential press office gives out very little information about the President’s health and consistently says he is in good shape.

The President himself has frequently discussed his ailments in his speeches. In October 2018, he spoke to an audience about how he was anticipating the results of a cancer screening. His remarks sparked instant concern and rumours, but days later, he said the test had come back negative. The President also said previously that he was suffering from daily migraines. He has cited his ill health as the reason for skipping events during summits abroad.

Minilov’s banks join forces against money launderers

MALJUBAV, Minilov — Minilovab banks are studying ways to better exchange information on suspicious financial transactions. The pilot project is launched by the banking sector federation, Minifin.

As part of the fight against money laundering and financing of terrorism, banks are bound by law to monitor their clients and transactions as closely as possible and identify suspicious clients as well as the origin of their property. To facilitate this process, Minilovan banks have been working on establishing a system that collects and manages the information it needs.

“The pilot project is under way since early this year,” says Minifin President Karol Jedućepolje. “The project, for which we are working with the Minilovan payments specialist, Matična Kartica, currently focuses on large enterprises. We are developing the technological framework in which banks can work. There is not yet any real exchange of data.

Minifin hopes to follow up with a similar initiative for exchanging data on given clients. “It’s even more complex,” said Mr Jedućepolje, “not only in terms of technology but also because the strict confidentiality rules must continue to be respected when exchanging data.

Homeless shelters receive more women and minors

Homeless shelters receive more women and minors

SPAJANJE, Minilov — Minilovan shelter homes helping the homeless say that the number of youngsters and women coming in is on the rise, the Korrespondent reports. In South Minilov, the number of homeless women has doubled, Health Minister Mrs Heather Vrijeme explains. The city of Spajanje will open its winter accommodation for the homeless tomorrow, earlier than usual because of the cold spell.

While there are no official figures of homeless people in Minilov, estimates indicate there must be 50.000. This number does not only include the "usual" homeless people that come to our minds first, says Vrijeme, but also "hidden" homeless persons who are doing couch surfing with friends and family to spend the night.

Minister Vrijeme adds that "while we used to see 80% men and 20% women in our relief centres, this figure has now shifted to 60% men and 40% women." The number of youngsters is also on the rise: 20% of the beds in Ljubimaca are taken by people under 25.

She thinks this shift is due to a number of factors, the main one being the real estate market for those seeking to rent a place. Those with a low wage are finding it more difficult to rent a place. Women are thought to be more vulnerable than men, but youngsters also belong to this vulnerable category.

Drug-busting Tweets Gone Viral

BY TELEGRAPH • Our Correspondent in Idacua

As it is publicly known, Themiclesia committed to assisting Idacua in its renewed effort to eliminate criminal activity centred on drugs, which has beset the nation for decades. The narcotics operations have relied upon the remoteness of its base of operations to elude official control, and it is reported that armed resistance is rampant in the region. The two units posted to Idacua are the 242th Special Operations Company of the Royal Signals Corps and the 31st International Detachment of the Themiclesian Marines. Reports in the past few months have proven positive, if wanting in immediate progress. In late October, it is circulated amongst several international press agencies that Themiclesians have made small inroads in Idacua, even capturing a few armed cells that represent "serious threats to peace and order". It is not clear which company was, or both were, responsible for these captures, but some analysts, such as Lew Research, have been more willing to credit the capture to the Themiclesian Marines. That force has not released statements thereabout.

Yesterday, a tweet was published by user FreedomWarriors, an international, militant group of anarcho-capitalists:

Image

It is viral on Twitter, being retweeted over 40,000 times within six hours of its posting. The user has previously tweeted against Kolodoria's Vyzhvan campaign, where it is widely believed the Kolodorian authorities have conducted ethnic cleansing. The same hashtags, #Watching and #HumanRights, were used in reference to that matter. While this tweet seems to confirm that some of the rumoured captures were made, as Lew suggested, by that unit, it has given a jaw-dropping response that garnered outrage from both domestic and international commentators.

Image

In the first instance, the Attorney General expressed disapproval of this statement, which he called "scelerous and slanderous". He said that he will be writing a paper to the Secretary of State for Defence to express his concern at the statement. "It is not a trivial matter that an institution has taken to trivialize two sensitive matters internationally," he said, "we must seriously question whether the government's Twitter Supremo was at his desk when this message came through. It represents a most hideous lack of control and proper perspectives."

"What is most unacceptable," the Home Secretary tweeted two minutes later, "is that whoever sent this awful tweet ought to be fully aware of the affairs ongoing in Kolodoria and the gravity of those hashtags. Instead of understanding that prisoners-of-war are protected by a generally-accepted international accord and that their prisoners are fully entitled to see that their rights be not tread upon, they have chosen to equate proper supervision with sexual triviality. In doing so they have shown contempt for their moral obligations towards the international community and dispensed Themiclesia's commitments towards the Eisenmaat Convention. This is not to account for the equally-obvious trivialization for the sexual violence that face women in many societies today."

"They very clearly are immersed in call-out culture where buzz words are levied against the exercise of needy rights, to shame and oppress them into submission under a most disgraceful label." The spokesperson for the Themiclesian Association of Feminists averred. "Violence need not be physical, and words are perfectly capable in compelling others to comply, when they are under no such obligation. We call upon the Ministry of Defence and legal system to punish the offender accordingly."

Update

Kien-k'ang • The prime minister has instructed the tweet to be retracted immediately, says the speaker of his private office. This tweet was seen about twenty minutes after the initial outrage was reported.

Being a former serviceperson with the Marines, I think I can weigh in on this situation. The Twitter terminal is next to the Duty Officer of the Chamber of Tallies, and it is located in a hallway just off the printer room, next to the Public Relations Office. It is not in an enclosed office. What I think is happening here, as the Attorney General has enlightened us, is a lack of control. He is quite right to say this. As long as the Duty Officer is not at his desk, anyone passing can post through the Twitter account, and I am not surprised if it was made by someone without proper authority. There is, actually, a procedure for sending Twitter posts, and the Cabinet Office could not have possibly let this happen.
