Well, I woke up to a huge raw amount of anger in the news today and boy oh boy, I'm still trying to figure out how it makes any sense to anyone.

Disney has found their prince — and Christian Navarro is not happy about it. Shortly after it was announced that Jonah Hauer-King had landed the role of Ariel’s love interest, Prince Eric, in the upcoming live-action retelling of TheLittle Mermaid, Navarro, 28, shared his thoughts about the casting decision on social media.

In two since-deleted posts on Instagram and Twitter, the 13 Reasons Why star — who was also reportedly in the running for the role of Prince Eric — slammed Disney for their alleged lack of diversity.

“Literally @disney saw a who’s who list of actors of color and STILL went with the white guy,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Hauer-King, which was captured by a fan before it was removed. “So much for diversity. I guess two brown leads would have tanked the movie right? Boring.”

Navarro also took his frustrations out by reactivating his Twitter, posting a tweet about the casting, and subsequently deactivating his account.

“Just came back to say; after months of seeing every person of color they could think of for the role of Prince Eric, @DisneyStudios somehow still cast a white guy,” he tweeted. “I guess diversity is just a word. And THATS Hollywood.”

“One brown person is enough, two brown leads is unthinkable,” he added, referencing Halle Bailey who is set to star opposite Hauer-King as Ariel.

I could tell you that I was bothered by Christian's broad brush labelling of minorities as brown people but that wouldn't compare to how much I shook my head at his anger in general.

Like let me get this straight, you're mad that they had several actors who auditioned for the role who were non whites, and they picked a white guy in the end? It's like Navarro doesn't wanna see any white people in the film, or at least in the lead role. This guy legit reactivated his Twitter just to complain that they picked a white guy to play Prince Eric? I believe Navarro is getting up in arms over nothing, although some may disagree. So what are your thoughts nationstates? Do you think Christian Navarro is right to be mad that they picked a white dude to play Prince Eric or is he himself being the racist?

The message being sent seems to be that it's only not racist if there's no white people around...which in itself is ironically very racist.

I mean how can you say you aren't racist when they pick a guy for a role and you're mad about his race...and he is the same race as the original character too, so now it's clear you're just that much of a bigot

This outrage is just kinda stupid; pick the person with the best qualifications and appearance for the role. Race shouldn't factor in unless you explicitly need someone of that race (i.e. a movie about MLK Jr, for example. You probably want a black actor who somewhat looks like him, not some white guy.)

I think what he means is specifically targeting white people to be removed/reduced from the role candidacy/actor pool (which would be racist, and what some people want), rather than just adding some more minorities to the existing pool (which would be fine.)
