Why should we commend anyone who allows child labor? Isn’t that non compliant?

NS Issues aren't connected to the WA, so it's possible to have a non-compliant national policy but not be non-compliant IC wise.

The primary contribution of this activity has been the repeated and continued alienation of new or prospective players from the GA game. Taking shots at new authors who don't have any indication of being unwilling to learn is not a particularly commendable pastime.

Other than that, the nominee's resolution record seems to me mediocre and broadly of little impact. It should be at least a little telling that when recapping this record, the proposal author does not get to choose the best resolutions, but has to parade the whole record to pad it out.

The proposal itself seems also to me some kind of way of just rewarding someone for being elevated to the Secretariat. I don't see that as particularly much of an achievement. Precedent on GA commendations has to do with contributions to the game, not just holding a staff position. I suppose that commendation could be granted OOC for particular inventiveness with GA rules litigation (though given the esoteric and perverse nature of it, I would doubt its worth in the public eye) but even if that were a burden, I see no real contribution to GA rules since appointment.

I fully intend to vote against this proposal. I will not be disclosing my main for fear of possible retribution on proposal legality questions. Similarly, I won't be proposing a repeal of this resolution, but if anyone were to send one in, I would happily vote for it.

This statement is totally underrated and completely true. As for disclosing my main? Here it is. Take your best shot.

I urge the members of the Security Council to vote against "Commend Grays Harbor", because of Grays Harbor's conservative platform.

OK, I was going to refrain from saying anything, but I do need to make a comment here it seems.

When I make rulings, I follow the rules and guidelines as laid down. I don’t play juvenile retaliation games. To suggest otherwise is wrong on pretty much every level. I review all proposals the same, regardless.

Voting ends in 16 hours. Congratulations on the successful authorship Sargon Reman! However, I agree with someone from The North Pacific forum. I have voted Against, sorry. :p

Edit: That said, I love the end result!

Thank you anyway Yohannes :lol2:

I have always believed that I am fairly adept at gauging the mood of the peanut gallery despite the fact that this will only be my 3rd resolution. I have actually waited one year or so for this resolution to pass. I discovered Grays Harbor way back when I was working on Commend Minoa. So even well before he was made GenSec I knew that there must be something commendable about him.

Everyone who I have spoken with mainly voted against the resolution because they simply thought he wasn't commendable- or at least their version of it. I don't deny that he isn't the true blue ideal candidate for a Commend and I knew that when I decided to author the resolution. The one thing I learned early on when working on Minoa is that the peanut gallery recognizes an underdog when they see one, within reason of course.

He may not have held a GCR Delegacy or brokered landmark inter-regional accords per se but he still meets the foundational benchmarks for needing to be commended. This, in my view, was perhaps the most risky Commend I have ever done yet. If he wouldn't have recieved GenSec then I do realize that the result may not have been what it is now. I take pride in the fact that I spotted his need for one well before he was recognized for his GA voice like he was.

When I write a resolution for a nation I put alot into it and I view it as a privilege. It is a privilege to me because to one extent it is the recording of history that takes place in the drafting process of the past and I know that I have the privilege of saying that my legacy is, at least in the slightest, tied in some form to the great legacy of a nation that has done great things for the international community and will be so long after we CTE.

I would like to thank all five of the Pacifics that chose to vote for the resolution, including Lazarus. I thank everyone else that helped this resolution reach a quorum and the many other Delegates that voted for it so that it could achieve a high passage rate.

Good luck GH and have fun with it! Keep doing what you always have.

Pretty sure no one was accusing you of impropriety. The point was that your constant ridicule of what are for the most part illegal proposals in the Silly and Illegal proposals thread leaves much to be desired. You do little in the way of welcoming new players to the GA, and even less to help them. For that alone I don't think you deserved to be commended. As for your defender status? When is the last time you made a jump, or stacked in a defence?

It really isn't. Your chance for discussion related to the proposal was prior to and during the vote. Ongoing 'sour grapes' discussion isn't appropriate and will not be tolerated.
