International Basketball Championships 28

Postby Lisander » Wed Oct 30, 2019 12:39 pm

Welcome to International Basketball Championships 28! We're the Principality of Lisander, a basketball-loving nation, and we'll be your hosts for the next weeks! All of multiverse basketball powerhouses are signed up to the fun! Stay in touch to see who will be the next nation to be crowned International Basketball Champions! In this topic, we'll see the results and the roleplays, and you're invited to start posting your rosters from now on.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 32 signed nations (see below) will be divided into 8 groups, named A-H. In the Group Stage, nations will play a single round-robin. The top two advances to the knockout stage, where 16 will be cut for 8, then 4, and in the end, two will reach the final match.

SCORINATION, RP BONUS AND CUT-OFFS
For scorination, xkoranate 0.3.3 will be used, with most recent IBO rankings. RP bonus will be generous, and by the short nature of the event, cumulative. As usual, quality over quantity is encouraged, but if you can have both, feel free to go wild. A small initial host bonus will be added to the Lisander rating, considering the great work it is to organize such a tournament. This also can be considered equivalent to "home advantage". This bonus will not be greater than the maximum bonus provided for a matchday's RP.

Cut-offs will be around 3 PM in every matchday, Lisander Time (GMT-3). Further modifications will be informed in the sign-ups/OOC thread.

LISANDER
Lisander is a small nation located in the northern part of the western ocean (i.e. Atlantic). It is a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy. Its citizens are called Lisanderian and they number about eleven million, having the most varied origins, but being, for the most part, citizens of Latin ethnic groups. (Iberians, Francians, Italics).

Lisander is known for its "frightening" economy, its care for the environment and their cutting-edge technology, especially as regards information technology. The nation has a beautiful and preserved environment and a cultured and educated population. Tourism, along with technology, is one of the economy's flagships. Lisander has a public health system and a unified education system that provides a national standard for all schools, whether free or private. Lisander is also known for its excellent civil rights and political freedoms. Recreative Drug Use, Same-sex marriage and polygamy are all legal in the nation.

Lisander's currency is Lis (L$). Being Lisander a strong economy, Lis is endowed with enviable stability. L $ 1 is worth around NSD 1.90 since a long time ago. Wages are above the world average, but due to the high taxes needed to maintain the State of Art system, the cost of living is a bit high.

Some average prices:
A packet of snacks: L$ 1
Lunch (at a self-service restaurant), no drink: L$ 11
One beer (375 ml can): L$ 2.50
One pack of chocolate cookies (with 12 or 14 cookies, depending on the brand): L$ 1.75
Overnight at a 2-star hotel with breakfast included: L$ 60
A basketball jersey (from the home team at the arena store): L$ 100

One aspect that can be considered negative in the Lisanderian society, which is vehemently criticized by some, is the strict control the state maintains over citizen and visitor data. Each citizen has an identity microchip, called LSiD, whose data feeds into an interconnected information bank. This data may be accessed partially by public services or shared with private companies such as banks under contract. These microchips control a portion of financial transactions, which can already be done digitally in some commercial establishments, especially in larger cities. Most commonly, it is worn in an accessory such as an armband, a bracelet or ring, or in the form of a card, similar to a credit card. Tourists are advised to purchase a temporary LSiD so then they can make financial moves without worrying about carrying physical currency. LSiD users can also have free or low-cost internet access and telephone.

BASKETBALL

Basketball is a sport with a quite slow growing curve. Not so slow as baseball or Gridiron Football, but not so fast as Rugby. After Lisander Rugby Union, Liga Nacional de Hóquei and Lisanderian Football Federation, Lisanderian Basketball Federation was the fourth selected sports federation to receive money from Ministry of Sport. They presented a consistent plan, enjoyed the power of media and sponsors and started to dig up a little place to plant the seeds of its evolution.

In the process of joining to the International Community of the sport, the Lisander Basketball Federation already hosted the IUBC Finals, while, locally, FLB started its national professional championship, the Superliga. At the same time, FLB is partnering with National Academic League (LAN) to have competitive college teams. Hosting the IBC 27 was in the plans of FLB, but the joint bid with Velestrian Basketball Federation was defeated by Abaja and Filindostan bid. This time, Lisander was the sole bidder and finally was accepted as IBC Host.

Yet, the prospects are positive. If they manage well the resources, both financial and human, Lisander Basketball may be as great as rugby in some seasons.

VENUES
Six cities will host the eight IBC 28 group stage. Soria, the nation's capital, and Lerna, the national capital of Basketball, will each have two arenas.

Group A - Olympia Pavillion, Lerna (20000)
Officially Giannis Salmakis Pavillion, the new BC Olympia arena has recently opened, and thanks to Lerna's interest in basketball, will host the opening game and the IBC 28 Final. It's a modern arena filled with high-technology, in southern Lerna, entirely built by 3A Architecture, the biggest building firm in the nation. It's the first sports arena to accept only LSiD for every financial transition.

Group B - The Box, Kasandora (17750)
The Box is a multi-purpose arena in Kasandora, shared between the AC Kasandora basketball team and the National Ice Hockey League Kasandora Blues. It also hosted the Newlands Conference Tournament in the last season of NSCAA.

Group C - Palaestra, Sirenia (9000)
Sirenia Palaestra is the multi-sport arena owned by Club Sparta. It houses Club Sparta Basketball and Ice Hockey teams, and is also leased to some games of Ice Hockey Team Sirenia Mariners. It also hosted games of IUBC XIII knockout rounds.

Group D - Metropolitano, Soria (33200, 15200 for basketball games)
Oficially Nordland Metropolitano, the modern arena in Soria suburbs is owned by Nordland Group, a company that encompasses an airline, an investment fund and shares in basketball and football teams (Libertas Basketball and Soria Union FC), those who play in this arena. Features a giant screen in one of its inner walls. It also hosted the IUBC XIII Final Four.

Group E - Parc des Sports Countess Tarsila, Casterwill (8000)
The Noble Family of Casterwill, known for having dozens of titles and even a city named after them (founded in their inherited lands) have become, over the last 50 years, a kind "sports patrons". Tarsila Casterwill, the late Countess of Casterwill, was a prominent equestrian. His son, Adrian, is a cricketer playing the T20 Alliance, and his daughter Kevna is an Olympian fencer. The Parc des Sports was built for them, side by side to the Casterwill Cricket Ground, to the Superliga Local team, the Casterwill Roses. It also hosted games of IUBC XIII knockout rounds.

Group F - Gymnasium, Lerna (8000)
Gymnasium was built 1946 by the Comunal Chamber of Lerna, and was BC Olympia's main venue until the construction of the Olympia Pavillion. It has undergone repeated sponsored expansions since the start of the SuperLiga. It remains the main venue for the basketball team at Universidade de Lerna. It also hosted the United 15 Conference Tournament in the last season of NSCAA.

Group G - Albert Pavillion, Soria (9000)
Albert Pavillion, built next to Albert II Stadium, is owned by the Lisander Football Federation, and is used for the games of the national futsal team. The arena is another that has received several renovations in recent times, aiming to house a team of the proposed expansion of Basketball SuperLiga.

Group H - Grandeville Arena, Grandeville (11200)
Home of LNH side Grandeville Royals, Grandeville Arena was chosen for its capacity and comfort. Grandeville is a mountain town known for ski resorts and eco-tourism trails.

Starting Lineup
PG #2 Amadou Secka. 6'3. 30 years old. Only returning starter from IBC 26 team. Team's best player- can create his own shot, very quick. Almost automatic from the free throw line. Defensive liability.Captain.
SG #5 Saihou Uster. 6'4. 27 years old. Runs around like crazy, relentless motor. Team's best perimeter defender, team's best spot up shooter. Is a poor isolation player and struggles to create his own shot.
SF #23 Wassa Itraba. 6'6. 31 years old. A poor outside shooter, but quality rebounder, ball handler, and very skilled at taking the ball to the rim. Often overpowers weaker opposition to the rim. A big fan of the midrange game.
PF #36 Ilman Corr. 6'8. 32 years old. A classic stretch four. While known to get into foul trouble, so the coach must stagger minutes effectively. Effective three point shooter.
C #10 Sadio Bartaba. 6'11. 25 years old. Second IBC appearance. First IBC appearance as a starter. The team's best rebounder and most physical player- the emotional heart of this team.

Bench
C #13 Karamo Turay. 7'0. 33 years old. The team's only 7 footer. Does not stretch the floor, but helps rebound and spell the rest of the front court. He is the team's best shot blocker by a significant margin.
PG #3 Ibezimako Akabueze. 6'1. 22 years old. Led University of Moravica to appearance in NSCAA 10 Championship Game. Known for quick transition plays.
PF/SF #4 Labanzi Nabongo. 6'7. 26 years old. Second IBC appearance. Will play the center position when the team wants to engage in small ball. Very physical player, even for his size.
SG #12 Janko Jawo. 6'5. 28 years old. Highly energetic, quality perimeter defender. An offensive liability.
SF #14 Hassan Kama. 6'6. 35 years old. A capable bench player of putting in quality minutes, though unplayable in the 4th quarter. Said to have the opposite of a clutch gene.
PF/SF #9 Yaya Karbgo. 6'8. 34 years old. Old, grizzled veteran. Defensive specialist.
PG/SG #7 Olayod Ontambu. 6'2. 36 years old. Smaller and quick. Will come in for a couple of minutes every so often, and often times for mop-up duty.

Closeout Lineup - This is the five that the team will use at the end of close games, their so-called best lineup.
PG #2 Amadou Secka. 6'3. 27 years old. Captain.
SG #5 Saihou Uster. 6'4. 24 years old.
SF #23 Wassa Itraba. 6'6. 28 years old.
PF #4 Labanzi Nabongo. 6'7. 23 years old.
C #36 Ilman Corr. 6'8. 29 years old.

Notes:
- We almost always play a 1-3-1 zone defense. It works well with this team, which has lots of size, and is getting faster, especially at guard.
- This team is built very different from past teams. They space the floor much better, and though Itraba is a ball stopper, they have spread the floor with a lot of players who can hit jumpers, especially three pointers. They also like to play fast.
- This team will run at almost any chance they get. While rebounding, especially on defense, is the team's weakest link, when they do get a rebound, they are able to push the ball, and so quickly.
- For the group stages, this team's rotation runs 10-12 deep, as they will almost certainly shorten the rotation to 8 players come the knockout stages. But for now, he wants to get everybody playing time, and give the starters rest for the later stages of this tournament.

Recent History
The recent history of the national basketball team, or the Lions, has to start with Banija’s return to the international fray in the 24th IBCs- when they first made a name for themselves on the international stage. With Alonzo Busk hired as the head coach, and their play centered around their star front court players, the pair of 7’2 foot twin brothers, this was a team that won with a front court based game. The two were quality free throw shooters for their size, of course, and they stunned everyone in the IBCs by even getting out of their group, finishing with a 7-3 record in IBC 24 after starting 0-2.

They then made a deep run into the tournament, until they ran into the buzzsaw of St.Kanye- who beat them in the semifinals en route to their third IBC championship in a row. Running into one of the sport’s all-time great teams, things seemed to be looking up for the Lions. And then, came IBC 25- the first time they truly faced disappointment. On home soil, in a tournament co-hosted with Filindostan, they went 10-0 In the group stages, emerging as a favorite to cut down the nets in Filindostan. However, for them, they ran into Drawkland, who stunned Banijan fans by pasting the Lions by 20 on their home floor, en route to winning the tournament themselves.

After that, the team got their first major trophy- winning the Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for the men. That gave them hope flying into IBC 27, and they did well in that tournament, winning their group for the second straight tournament, this time from Pot 2, and getting into the knockouts. They ran into the defending champs, Drawkland, in the quarterfinals, and that was the end of the run for the Lions.

Three IBCs, three knockout stage appearances, three knockout victories- not a bad run for Alonzo Busk. But it was all a disaster at the Olympics. They went 3-3 in the group stages at the REpublica Olympiad, the Savaneh twins swan song with the Lions. And that was it for that iteration of the squad. The Savaneh twins retired, and Alonzo Busk, the head coach, resigned after the Olympiad, saying that it was time for a new era of Banijan basketball to commence.

And IBC 27 was the beginning of the new era. With a new head coach in Isaiah Lavaga, they run a different kind of offense entirely- the team running through a pair of quick, quality guards. They shoot a ton of 3s, and try to stretch the floor- almost the opposite of teams past. And with their #4 ranking in the IBC standings, the expectations for this team are extremely high- with even Lavaga himself saying that anything less than a quarterfinal appearance, with the talent on this team, would be ‘a failure’. This team, though almost getting eliminated in the Round of 16, won four in a row over Valanora and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec(respectively), to run into the Vannish buzzsaw in the semifinals.

The IBC 27 Semifinals, going into which Banija had so much hope, was humbling. Vangaziland is clearly a cut above the rest of the multiverse in terms of basketball skill, and they will be the measuring stick, as the Lions hope to do what the national soccer team did to Vilita- prevent them from winning a third consecutive championship. Our eyes are on the prize, and we'll see if gold is in Banija's destinies in Lisander.

DRAWKLAND NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM (NET CORPS)

CHAMPIONS, International Basketball Championships 25

Name: Net Corps
Colors: Black with Crimson trim
Denonyms: Drawkian or Drawkish, personal preference
TENTH IBC, Rank #2
Head Coach: Cody Morgan
Assistant Coach: Sally Hardin
Assistant Coach: Tom Chalk

Basketball is an avid sport in Drawkland, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them.

As you may notice, the Drawkian team is sorta massive, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but that's wrong. In fact, most professional Drawkian athletes don't retire until around the age of 40, since the average lifespan is around 150.

After having their best group stage in their history in IBC 24, the Net Corps went on to get annihilated in the Round of 16 for the fifth straight time (once by Royal Kingdom of Quebec, once by Vangaziland, once Abaja, once by Ceni, and now once by Banija). Finally, they decided they weren't going to take no for an answer. A decade of playoff disappointment took a heel-turn as the Corps made an unprecedented run to the championship game. Drawkland won the game in convincing fashion to Royal Kingdom of Quebec, and finally claimed the title of IBC Champions. While they lost in the semifinals of IBC 26 to the team they defeated in the previous semifinals, Newmanistan, they still had the skill to make a deep playoff run. And that they did, by making it to the finals of IBC 27 against Vangaziland. Unfortunately, Vangaziland was the outright better squad and took the series in two straight games. Still, the Net Corps are hungry, and ready for another chip.

For the Net Corps, the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) hand-picked team members, some high performers from last edition, a couple different all-star club players, and even a few collegiate players who REALLY shined in the NSCAA. The team is co-ed, and even the coaches are specifically selected now.

HAPILOPPER NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM
Full Nation Name: The Dominion of Hapilopper
Trigramme: HAP
Nickname: The Haps
Team Colors: Blue, Green and White

Info: In the Hapiloppian sporting landscape, basketball, and the Hoops of Hapilopper league is a little behind the rest of Hapilopper's "big five" sports of auto racing, football, baseball and gridiron, but still retains a devoted fan base of fans who pack the arenas every night for some HoH action. Hapiloppian basketball is physical, intense and very, very exciting to watch. Players like Darrell Brooke and Dillon Underhill have wowed Hapiloppian fans with their artistic dunks and have vowed to give multiversal fans something to cheer for this IBC, even if they get beat during the championship.

Guards are known for their physical, "hack attack" style of defending, while Forwards will play a little game of "fun and gun" in an attempt to run the score upwards.

Banijans get ready for 28th International Basketball Championships

Image
Banijan team pictures before the 28th International Basketball Championships

SIRENIA, LISANDER- The International Basketball Championships have returned, and this time, they have entered the shores of Lisander. The Lions are running in their second tournament coached by Isaiah Lavaga, and they believe that they are true contenders to take the crown in basketball this year. "This team is a special group of men." Said Isaiah Lavaga. "Winning at this level is extremely tough, when you have the talent and passion that comes in terms of international basketball. You have countries with richer basketball cultures than Banija's, with more money than Banija, and yet, here we are- consistently competing at the highest levels, trying to break through and compete against the best of the best, take down the strongest nations. In IBC 27, we made a lot of progress- we showed that we had the best side in the Commonwealth, for example, and we showed our talent at the absolute highest level, and we showed grit, coming back in our series against Valanora, and talent throughout the tournament. Unfortunately, however, it was clear that there was still a large gap to bridge between us and the champions, Vangaziland. I think we've done quite a bit to close that gap between us and Vangaziland, and we're capable of going toe to toe with rivals like Drawkland and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, but we'll see on the court."

It is a much shorter than usual group stage, making sure teams hit the ground running when the tournament begins. Once again, the head coach spoke about this. "We are used to the 10 game group stage- it gives you time to settle in, to try out different rotations, to work through kinks in your offense. But this tournament gives us a new challenge- while limiting the travel mileage on our own bodies, we have a three game group stage. You can talk about the positives and negatives, the less wear and tear on the body of the athlete for an international tournament, in this new health conscious age- there are benefits, there are drawbacks. Commentary on what the format should or should not be is, frankly, well above my pay-grade. I'm here to coach basketball. But I can talk about the challenges that each different format will provide. A shorter group stage will be more exciting for the fans. It gives almost every game a do or die feel- lose just twice, and chances are that you'll be on the first flight back to your home country. We have just 3 games to get things together before the knockout stages, and that assumes we make the knockouts. Valanora, specifically, is a tough opponent- you saw how close our Best of 3 was with our Southwestern neighbors last time around? Our group stage game against them will be particularly interesting to watch, a good measuring stick of the progress of Lions basketball."

Lavaga also spoke briefly about the other two opponents in his group, an unranked HUElavia and an unranked Cyvass. "In a short group stage like this, we cannot afford to take any opponent for granted." Said the head coach. "And that goes for HUElavia and Cyvass. Of course, we do not have any film on them, while they have film on us- they will be able to scout us, while for both of those teams, we do not have much of a scouting report. It creates a unique challenge as a coach, though it's exciting for players and fans. That is how upsets happen- well coached teams, in situations like that, can use the lack of information on their own team as an advantage, as defenses truly do not know what is coming. That means we are going to have to come out and play strong, fundamental basketball against those teams. Go out, and aggressively take control of the game. Take control of the paint, take control of the pace, and make sure we're playing our style of basketball, rather than whatever style HUElavia or Cyvass want to play. If we can go out and dictate terms, we should be in good shape, but if not, I have great respect for what they have done."

Lavaga, then lastly, spoke about his own team. "Returning all 12 players from our IBC 27 roster is absolutely crucial." Said Isaiah Lavaga. "We had a great tournament last time, and we've established this team firmly as a top 5 nation in international basketball. But now, it is finally time for us to climb this mountain. There is one nation in the Top 5 of the IBC standings that hasn't even been to a IBC Championship Game/Series, and unfortunately, that is us. While I am not so bold to proclaim that as our goal, everybody knows that we have high expectations around here. Considering the talent on this team, making at least the quarterfinals of this tournament will have to be the benchmark for success. But we will aim beyond that. We have veterans, like Secka, who are gearing up one more time for the Lions ,and players like Ilman Corr who can stretch the floor. A lot of veteran experience, and the shorter tournament helps them- when you have 7 of 12 players on your roster above 30, a 3 game group stage, as opposed to a 10 game, can help significantly lower the wear and tear on our veteran bodies, leaving them in better shape for the knockout stages, preventing a potential evisceration of our side like what happened in the semifinals last time around against Vangaziland."

Tune in to Public Radio and Television to follow The Lions as they launch their quest for gold. As always, Go Lions!

Flying at Breakneck Speeds

Postby Drawkland » Fri Nov 01, 2019 10:33 pm

FLYING AT BREAKNECK SPEEDS
Written By: Andrew Miller and Jimmy Fisher

Just like that, the IBC is back once again. While other tournaments have winded down for the Drawkians, us Corps fans finally have another place to direct our energy. And, if the most recent tournaments have been any indication, anger. Let's face it, over the past few cycles, Drawkland has established itself as a real force to be reckoned with. Whether it be the World Bowl, IBC, or the IAC, generally when your team is set to play the black and red, you're gonna sweat a bit. Well, I guess as long as you ignore the World Cup proper and the *shudder* WBC, that is.

Anyhow, despite this high level of success, the Corps have collectively failed to capture any of their former glory as of late. While the World Bowl and IBC teams have been to the semifinals or even the final pretty consistently the last few cycles, neither have been able to really push for the next title. And let's face it, it probably comes off as greedy wanting to glory hunt for additional titles. However, when you're a highly ranked team, used to success at that high stage, what else is there to do? If you're not gonna quit at the top, then you gotta keep driving, or else you're just wasting time and precious placement.

So this is what I, as a fan completely unable to affect or sway the results of the tournament in any way, expect from this team. And with this coming IBC, there's a really interesting quirk that could easily make or break the tournament for us. Let's see what our tenth IBC is going to look like.

IBC 28 in LISANDER
So let's address the elephant in the room. IBC 28 is going to be 7 matchdays .... total. That's right, this is going to be run basically as a soccer tournament, what with the 8 groups of 4 and the single round-robin group stage. One thing is for certain, this is going to be like no other IBC before us. Whether this is a good thing or bad thing really can't be decided yet. I'm sure it'll mostly depend on whether we get dumped out early or not.

Say all you want about emergency late-stage bids, but I think nobody has the right to complain considering the Lisander association stepped up when nobody else would. One thing's for certain - in the volatile world of basketball, there's absolutely going to be some upsets. By the time teams get some momentum going it'll already be partway into the playoffs. We are all going to be flying by the seat of our pants all the way to the final, as fans. It's easy to recall times that high-ranked teams have lost games early in the group stage of past tournaments which set them back a bit but in the long run are just a minor stain on the record before a deep playoff run. It's just as easy to recall times where high-ranked teams cruise through a group stage with nigh-unstoppable momentum and don't lose a game until deep into the playoffs, if at all.

If you look back at previous tournaments, if it weren't for the series format, Drawkland wouldn't have made it to the IBC 27 final last cycle, as they lost Game 1 in both the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals, before clawing back and winning the next 2 to advance. On the other hand, the title run in IBC 25 was done in single-elimination, and it's likely that a couple of the Drawkian upsets might not have panned out if they had to come back for a Game 2 or 3 against the same squads. You could also point to the collegiate heroes of Drawkland making impressive deep runs in the massive single-elim bracket of the NSCAA Ultra 64. There's really a hundred ways to analyze or over-analyze how a team could do in the future, and none of it really matters in the long run. It all comes down to the players on the court playing the game. That's all it ever is.

GROUP OUTLOOK
Speaking of playing on the court, who exactly will we be facing? With the slightly delayed timetable of the IBC 28 host selection and the rapidly-approaching World Cup cycle, some teams have been caught off-guard with the hosting turnaround. Coupled with the short schedule of the tournament itself, it's incredibly likely that several nations' rosters won't even be fully prepared for the tournament until the playoffs are already underway.

That being said, this is already a small tournament for IBC standards. 32 participants, and only 17 of them are ranked teams returning to the competition. This is honestly fortunate for newer nations, because stringing in an upset or two could land you a playoff berth just like that. As far as our group is concerned, this means we won't have a whole ton of competition. If we just hold serve and don't get upset, it's an easy road to the playoffs, but who knows beyond that.

We were drawn in Group F as the entry from Pot 1, pretty standard as we are the #2 nation in the IBC as of right now. We managed to get the lowest of the Pot 2 nations in our group, what luck! That nation happens to be the #31 ranked Lochario, which is incredibly fortunate since the next-highest participants were ranked #23, which is no small gap. Now, Pot 3 and Pot 4 are comprised completely of unranked nations. The one exception is Pratapgadh, being the top of Pot 3 at #39. I suppose we immediately paid the price of being given the worst Pot 2 team by being given the best and only experienced Pot 3 team. While Pratapgadh are still only ranked #39, it's a big difference from being totally new and unranked. Finally, our Pot 4 entry is Aldaveria.

Of our groupmates, we don't know a whole lot about them. Pratpgadh were notable for being somewhat mildly successful in the last NSCAA edition. They also seem to have a well-put-together roster of players. In a tournament of this size, just having a cohesive group like that can be enough to send you to the playoffs and beyond. We'll see how it pans out though. Lochario and Aldaveria, however, are total mysteries. Their players aren't notable in any fashion that we can see. Usually this means they can be written off, but in any tournament, especially basketball, you can't sleep on the little guys.

I can easily see us winning all 3 of our group stage games in flying colors. Our biggest trouble will be Pratapgadh for sure, the question is just how much trouble they will end up being. I predict we will win the group, possible (hopefully) undefeated, with Pratapgadh coming in second with a 2-1 record. The other two aren't likely to make it to the playoffs and their exact record isn't going to be a big deal. If the group doesn't pan out like this, something has likely gone horribly wrong. Fingers crossed!

PLAYOFF PROJECTIONS
We don't yet know exactly what the playoff format will be. With the soccer-centric paradigm in place, we could guess it'd be A1vsB2 or A1vsD2. It could easily follow the format of other sports of this caliber though and be seeded, so there's no telling at this point. Either way, we'll look at predictions for each eventuality. For the purposes of this experiment, we will assume that we'll be winning our group. I know, it's a real stretch of the imagination, but hang with me.

In the A1vsB2 format, we'd be facing the second-placed team from Group E. This group has Newmanistan, Abaja, Xanneria, and Tornado Queendom. Woof, that's one hell of a group. If Xanneria and TQ really show up they could prove to be a massive thorn in the side of Newmanistan and Abaja. Using the most likely option though, we'll probably be facing Abaja in the first round and Newmanistan in the next. Now we've faced and beaten both of these teams, but it's no picnic. I would especially be worried to have to face Newmanistan again, especially early in the playoffs in single-elim. Either way, I hope this isn't the format we have to deal with. I'd prefer to avoid Group E as long as possible.

The A1vsD2 format would send us to playing the runners-up of Group G in the first round. This would, in all likelihood, be the Equestrian States, or maybe returning old-timers Sarzonia. Either way, an easily winnable game provided we don't shit the bed. I don't have the permutations of this format memorized, so I'm not sure who we'd be facing next and I'm too lazy to research it considering it probably won't even be the format in play. Whatever.

Finally, the seeded format is likely but also pretty much impossible to project before the games even start. We will, assuming our play is consistent with being the #2 team in the IBC right now, be one of the top seeds and will likely have to face one of the teams that barely scraped into the playoffs at all. Not to be rude, but that'll likely be an easy ticket to the quarterfinals, where we'd probably be facing a low-level top seed or an overachieving low seed.

In all likelihood, we'll probably have an easy road to the semis .... assuming we even make it there with the raw volatility this IBC is going to be bringing. No matter the format, there's no excuses. The Net Corps is the #2 program right now, and there's no excuses. It's time to put up or shut up ... so let's put up. On Corps.

Road to a dream for the nation

The Bolgano team, nobody knows their style of play, but they can be strong ahead and very strong in defense, concluding being a neutral team, their group rivals, Free Republics that is good in any sport they play, Kita-Hinode, another team to fear and Furbish Island, a low-level team but with a great game, if we want to survive we have to do something, play as usual, they will surely be difficult matches for Bolgano and with great players who have as Martín Da Silva.

The National Basketball League of Bologna (NBLB) is an Amateur League seeking to create professional players, among those our only professional, Martín Da Silva, a player of Brazilian culture and 24 years old having an even longer path in his career.

A greeting to the world

What is the thing you fear the most?
What makes you shrink away in terror, makes the blood turn to ice in your veins;
Makes hope feel a million miles away, and your dreams as sand before a raging tide;
When you feel alive, what makes you falter: when your confidence is high, what makes it wilt?
Is it the sound of your family crying, the too close flash of thunder?
The sound of gunfire from the next room, a raging fire drawing nearer?
Tell me, that I might outdo it; for if I know your greatest fear, it shall be your undoing. Truly your ending. But...my old friends, I don't need your help...you see:

I already know.

Your greatest fear is defeat. It's a lack of surety in your own talent, and the knowledge that your opponent is stronger than you. Faster than you. Smarter than you: better in every way than you. The knowledge that the anguished groans of your supporters is music to the ears of those who do not love you, and who will delight in crushing your dreams. You face that fear now, we bring it to you. Because we waited a while to announce the thing that would be your undoing. For one edition only, we are presenting a whole-haven team to make you whimper for salvation: and I'm afraid God isn't listening.

Please enjoy your sacrifice to the will to win, we accept your challenge and wish you luck.
I am,
- Kosariel nos Seilamanhar,
First President of Basketball Velstrania,
he who provides oppositions with tissues to dry their crying eyes.

Kita-Hinode 95-52 Bolgano
After the match

Da Silva: I never received so much humiliation

Fritz: I feel the same

Razor: Surely Free Republics will humiliate us too

Da Silva: Why? It was only a badly played game, it is our first time, I just want you to keep going, a defeat is a defeat just think ahead, if we lose again, we lose and the important thing is to play as a team, don't you think?

Kilben: Calm down, we are not saying that we are giving up

Da Silva: I think so

Coach: You're right, you don't have to give up yet, just because we lost a game we can't leave yet, focus on the next 2 games.

Match Summary

Bolgano V
Da Silva
Razor
Villen
Ghilmer
Kallens

Kita-Hinode V
Xiangshua
Marufuji
Kamamura
Guo
O´Hannigan

The game was exciting for the youth of Kita-Hinode, some incredible triples that surprised us a lot, Bolgano for his part had the incredible Da Silva where he did his thing with the help of Razor and Fritz when he entered, the strange thing is that Bolgano won the First quarter no more, Kita-Hinode played a better game with Kamamura taking the prize of the best of the game with 42 points, perhaps the youngest to make more than 40 points in a match.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's fourteenth time participating in the International Basketball Championships. It's the end of an era as Abanhfleft's old stars are now bowing out of the international stage (and some of them are even bowing out of the FBA as well), paving the way for new and rising stars to take their places and hopefully bring massive and much-needed improvements to the team's performances. Really, the old guard should have moved on maybe a few years earlier, but they all thought that they still had what it takes, but IBC 26 finally proved both to them and to everyone else that they don't got it. But how about this new batch? What do they bring to the table? And what can they bring back to the Democratic Republic at the end of this tournament?

HOME STADIUM (The Fleftic Arena, Riuwiee)
Image
Presenting the Fleftic Arena, the largest indoor arena by seating capacity in the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft

Situated in the north of Abanhfleft's capital city of Riuwiee is the National Sports Park, a 140-hectare "special national designated area" in which a majority of Riuwiee's sporting facilities are located. Standing out among the stadia and gymnasia is the massive and imposing structure and flat roof of the Fleftic Arena, officially the largest indoor stadium in the whole of Abanhfleft with its official stated capacity of 100,786 seated spectators for indoor sports. The structure broke ground on September 26, 2009 as part of the capital city's reconstruction efforts following the aftermath of the Holy Catholic Revolution of 2008 which left nearly the entirety of Riuwiee devastated, and construction was completed over three years later in 2012. The Fleftic Arena is the official home arena of the Abanhfleft national basketball team and has played host to dozens of matches during the International Basketball Championships. Aside from that, the Riuwiee Presidents of the Fleftic Basketball Association occasionally uses the Fleftic Arena as its home stadium when it plays marquee match-ups against well-known teams from the league such as the Malabon Black Ops or the Markovsky Red Army, taking advantage of the arena's huge capacity when the capacity of their usual home stadium, the Sterling Arena, is deemed to be not enough for games of such popularity. Aside from that, the Fleftic Arena has also played host to at least four FBA All-Star Weekends since its inauguration and opening in 2012.

As for the stadium's location, Riuwiee is the capital city of Abanhfleft and is home to over 20 million people. The Fleftic people are very crazy and passionate about basketball, and even though their home side the Riuwiee Presidents has been disappointing in the FBA as of late, the fans still come out in droves to support and cheer for their team.
