Once again, conflict arises. The War to end All Wars brought about an era of what was once perceived as perpetual peace, but then we saw the worst war in human history, trumping even the first. The effects of the brutal Second World War can still be felt around the world, five years later. While we were once divided by the struggle between the "Allied" and Axis Powers, we now enter an era of division between communism and capitalism. While major cities still lay in ruins, humanity is on the verge of yet another war; this time, it has the potential to wipe us all out. The Cold War has begun, and with both the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and United States of America possessing nuclear weapons, the third and final war could begin any moment. The year long Berlin Blockade barely prevented a major conflict between the world's super powers, but now that China has fallen to communism, the West fears a domino effect elsewhere. North Korea sets its eyes on uniting the peninsula, setting the stage for the first major confrontation between communism and capitalism.

Rules:
I:No godmodding, meta-gaming or any variant
II:Be realistic
III: Development of nukes will take time. The UK, for example, didn't get one until 1953
IV: Any military movements must be clearly stated here in the OOC, and then explained in the IC (this is to avoid any confusion on invasions, operations etc). In addition, any covert intelligence operations must also be explained in the OOC. If a player is the target of the operations, then consent must be given. If an NPC country is the target, either me, or either of the Co Ops (Dentali or Felan) can respond and grant permission, depending on what's being done.
V: Non Active nations will be assumed to drop out, especially if you're a major one. If you are going to be absent, please let us know so we won't give away your spot
VI: Debates in the OOC need to be kept to a minimum
VII: No inflammatory rhetoric. You will be asked to stop, and then removed from the RP if it continues.
VIII: This will be historical for the most part. The point of divergence is 1945 for major powers
IX: Nations will periodically receive an Event, which is just an incident which needs a response. This will be used when something like a revolution happens, and some things aren't addressed. It's also a way to create content for posts

History: The history of the USSR goes back to the 1917 Russian Revolution and the overthrow of the Tsar. The chaos of World War One led to the Bolsheviks taking control and signing the Treaty of Brest Litovsk. The next five years would see a brutal civil war where the Red Army led by Vladimir Lenin would eventually win the Civil War in 1922. The number of casualties ranged around 7-12 million, and this would only be the beginning. Lenin would soon die, and a power struggle would result in Joseph Stalin gaining power, forming a dictatorship, and a maintaining a cult of personality that continues even now. The next few decades after Stalin's seizure of power included devastating famines in the early 30s and the Great Purge right before the start of World War Two. Although Stalin believed that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Treaty would keep the USSR at peace, the Germans betrayed them in 1941, ushering in four brutal years of fighting from Moscow to Berlin. When the war ended in 1945, the Soviet Union ensured it created buffer states, such as East Germany and the Eastern Bloc. In August 1945, the Red Army invaded Manchuria, and along with the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered. The Soviet Union would test the West in Berlin with a blockade that would ultimately fail, and the testing of an atomic bomb in 1949, ending the American monopoly on nuclear weapons.

Another more muted uprising began during the 2nd World War, as protests and strikes erupted in South Africa over the participation of the country in the 2nd World War. This led to a general strike of white workers as well as another Boer uprising. The government was then completely taken over, with the old Parliament done away in favor of a confederacy of Volksraads and Unions. A declaration of independence, based on the American one, was signed by delegates from the five new republics. The Commando system was reinstated to defend the republic from both foreign invasions and black uprisings. Immigration is encouraged from Western nations except for Britain, and South Africa is hoping to establish relations with other nations to escape its status as a pariah nation.

Argentina took notice and offered to assist the Chileans with their financial issues by purchasing 4/5th of the Chilean ports, and factories. Argentinian companies soon moved in and hired and trained the locals. The Chileans were moved by this gesture and decided to enter into a confederation with the Argentinians. The Chileans and Argentinians now call their nation Patagonia after a shared region, and have made Santiago the political capital while retaining Buenos Aires the Economic and judicial Capital. Juan Peron took the Chilean President Gabriel Videla as his vice president to keep the Chileans happy. In the new constitution, the president and vice president must not be from the same nation to prevent a power imbalance. Argentina, now with more land to use and a better economy with the union, has decided to drop their claims to the Falklands, with a condition that Argentines get visa free travel to the islands for vacation purposes. Chileans support this.

I have a few ideas I'll throw around to you, OP. If any of them sound either really good or really bad, let me know.

-West Germany, with a discreet yet somewhat sizeable portion of the military and government wishing to bring back the Kaiser in the form of Prince Louis Ferdinand. They would have a goal of maneuvering the West into securing the rest of the German lands, whether by diplomacy or by force.

-Finland, with an aggressive nationalist movement sweeping across the nation as they seek to pressure the West into forcing Russia to return land lost a decade prior.

-Ireland, with a stronger movement to reunite all of Ireland from British control.

-Israel, with a mostly historical approach of dealing with both enemies abroad and within.

I think the confederation between Chile and Argentina needs more explanation, but it's an interesting idea. I'd accept this

All of these sound nice. West Germany seems like it could definitely cause more things to happen in the IC, although I feel the West would still have a strong hold on the country. Whatever you choose to do, they all seem really good

Between the end of the Italo-Ethiopian war and the start of the second world war, overall production in Ethiopia multiplies by over 20, and the length of Ethiopia's railroads multiplies by over 1000. Ethiopia is a member of the Entente Powers during the first world war, despite having minimal involvement, due to their good relationship with the British and French. However, Ethiopia begins to make agreements with their former worst enemies, the Itallians lead by Mussolini, in the 1920s and 1930s following their co-operation during the first world war as Entente Powers and make an infamous secretive pact to divide and conquer British and French colonies in the area, giving Ethiopia sea access. Ethiopia joins the second world war on the side of the Axis on the same day as the Itallians, successfully capturing and dividing British and French Somaliland but reaching a stalemate in the Kenya Colony. However, Britain successfully counterattacks and Ethiopia eventually surrenders in 1944 after a long and brutal campaign, with their Emperor and government exiled in Berlin. Ethiopia is placed under British occupation. After the German surrender, Ethiopia's leaders are captured and the majority are executed for war crimes in 1946, although the Emperor is allowed to stay in a strictly ceremonial position due to his sanctity to Ethiopian culture. The GDR operated as an independent state, though heavily aligned with the USSR, in 1949 when the two joint Chairmen of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (Wilhelm Pieck and Otto Grotewohl) assumed control of the parties apparatus. During this time, the leadership of the GDR was becoming significantly concerned with defections to the West through West Berlin and across the border. The question as to how to prevent the brain-drain, as many intellectuals see the regime as too controlling and repressive, from hurting the East German economy.

The British Empire was one of the major powers in WW2, defeating Germany and Japan and bringing balance to Europe. The British Prime Minister, Clement Attlee, was able to restore the production to pre-war levels, although the debt of the Empire was still high.

The British Empire was one of the Major powers in WW2, defeating Germany and Japan and bringing balance to Europe. The British Prime Minister, Clement Attlee, was able to restore the production to pre-war levels, although the debt of the Empire was still high.

Between the end of the Italo-Ethiopian war and the start of the second world war, overall production in Ethiopia multiplies by over 20, and the length of Ethiopia's railroads multiplies by over 1000.
