Two sets of fans, two reactions to the end result of this game.

Hello guys, and welcome back to another edition of The Football Fallacies with me, your gay Irishman Graham O'Doherty. As you've probably guessed through the pictures above, we have finally avenged not only to avenge our loss against Kavagrad in a previous Independents Cup, but we have also made them pay for their insolence and willful ignorance by making sure that they will remember the name of the nation that has beat them. Of course, all this could very much be a moot point as it appears very likely that neither Abanhfleft nor Kavagrad are going to make it to the playoffs of the 8th Independents Cup, but as I have mentioned in an earlier post, this is all about pride and nothing else. Our poor start to this tournament saw to that.

Still, it was quite nice to hear our fans letting the Kavagrader fans know just what we thought of their country. I especially liked that chant right about the end of the ninety minutes where the fans said, "Who dat say them Flefts commit apple theft?", an obvious reference to one of the deliberate misspellings that that Kavagrader rag published way before. People will see this and say that we Fleftics are absolutely petty and vindictive. And at this point, I think the fans have absolutely decided that they will be exactly just that, extremely petty and vindictive. It's not like there's a whole lot else they can do at the moment, do they?

One has to wonder though: where in the world was this kind of heart and fightback in the earlier stages of the competition? We all know how Britt Hanokssen has been pretty much leading by example, and it was indeed her goal that finally got us over the line against the Redhearts, but where the fuck was this urgency from all the other players in the previous games? This is all very much a study at what could have been, something that we Fleftics have been through lots and lots of times already. But you really have to think: a ray of sunshine, an open goal, a properly timed tackle, and we could very well be wondering who we're going to face in the next round. But instead we are looking at yet another wasted cup campaign. What a difference a goal does indeed make.

I have said before that Abanhfleft needs maximum points in our final three games if we are to even stand a chance of sneaking into the playoffs. That goal came undone at the first of those three games though, that 1-1 draw against Fujai where we switched off for just one moment and allowed two of their players through on goal. As soon as the final whistle blew on that game, I knew that this Independents Cup was now a lost cause. Everything else we did in this competition from that point forward was now just for pride. We did achieve that against Kavagrad, and here's to hoping that we can achieve that against Britonisea as well, but for a team of our stature, this is simply beneath our level. We should not be aiming to gather pride in dead-rubber games. Our goals should be at the very least loftier than that.

One other positive that I can take out of this game against Kavagrad (aside from the schadenfreude of watching those commies cry their eyes out) is that we have finally started off strong in the first half. Goals from Kelly McGinnis and Elene Liner, perhaps a potent partnership in front equal to that of Chelsea Stuart and Alexandra Rousseau, in the first twenty minutes set the tone of the first half, and really we could have and should have been at least 4-0 up at halftime. The downside to all of that first half positivity though is that everything almost fell apart for us in the second half. Conceding a free kick and then a penalty in the space of five minutes does not a great team make. You've just given the red bastards a way into the game with that free kick, and of course it's a banger of a goal, and then you give up the penalty as well? Honestly, I feel like this team thinks that defense is overrated! And we almost paid the price for that, and I truly believe that if we hadn't brought on Britt for the final fifteen minutes of that game, there's no way that we're getting all three points.

Now we are on to the final game against Britonisea, the team with which we were fighting to not have bottom spot in the group for the last few games, and at the moment things are looking up for us. We've finally got a win in the cards; surely we can carry this minuscule bit of form into the next game and get another three points? And, as a few people out there have begun to think, could there be the possibility of a very unlikely qualification with only seven points to our name? First of all, I say to those people, bollocks! We haven't even played the game yet and you're already thinking ahead to three points!? Are you idiots watching the same team I am? For every fightback that this team has in them, it kind of feels like they've got at least two fuck-ups to compensate. Our team right now is a team that looks like world-beaters one moment and minnow fodder the next. Fuck, they don't even look like world-beaters when they're good. That's how far we have fallen behind on the ball. We just plain fucking suck right now. So guys, please, please take that into account before you try to make predictions and projections of who gets who and how before the opening whistle has even been blown. This hubris is going to be the death of me, and of all of us.

Besides, there are a hell of a lot of other factors that need to fall into place before we can even begin to think about the playoffs. Not only will Fujai have to lose their match but there have to be at least two other teams in third place who have done worse than we have to sneak into the third-place best teams, and frankly I just don't see that happening. Time to book those tickets back to Riuwiee, girls. Better luck next time. No, really. I really do wish the girls better luck in the next time that they take to the field, which I believe is the next World Cup qualifying campaign. Maybe we'll finally get something worthwhile out of that. Hopefully not a Cup of Harmony though. I'm just so sick and tired of it all. Why even take part in a "best of the rest" tournament if we aren't even gonna put in the effort to look like we belong? Oh, life as a fan can be stressful. But when it all works out, it all becomes oh so satisfying. XOXO from Graham....

Up to this point Bliuji has had mixed performances in the IAC. With the first match as a draw, second match as a lost and yesterdays game as a victory they find themselves in a decent spot. This game should be an easy one for Bliuji, The Dragons and Bronies have no international experience.

Omerica 3–3 Ouna: The Incorrigibles blow a golden opportunity to win the group

The good news is that Omerica’s unbeaten streak at the Independents Cup now stands at a staggering fifteen matches, stretching back to the victory over the Free Republics that sent Omerica through to the knockout stage in Mercedini. Even better is that the Incorrigibles are guaranteed to advance to the knockout stage here in Reçueçn. The bad news? In the process, the Incorrigibles have inflicted upon themselves what could be a major setback in their quest to retain the Independents Cup.

Reçueçn, Drawkland, the Free Republics and—most terrifying of all—Kelssek all secured top spot in their respective groups, each at least four points clear of their closest competitors. With each slotted into a definite spot in the knockout stage draw, Omerica were presented with a golden opportunity to clinch first place ourselves; earlier that day, Monglechabagd secured their first-ever IAC point with a bizarre and incomprehensible eight-goal draw against Barsland, giving the Incorrigibles the opportunity to extend their lead to four points and settle top spot ahead of the final group game.

Instead, what Omerica supporters were treated to was a festival of the equally bizarre and incomprehensible.

Ouna went into the match with just three points, all won in an unsurprising victory over Group E whipping boys Monglechabagd. Even then, Ouna could squeeze out a 2–1 win; Barsland, Omerica’s closest opponents, would go on to beat Ouna 2–1, so it would be expected that Omerica could manage the same. Yet it all started so poorly, with Julius Samson catching the Omerican defence flat-footed and bagging the opening goal of the match in the 22nd minute. Adélaïde Argyris quickly cancelled that goal out, leaving the affair level and Omerica uncharacteristically struggling—both the defensive and offensive links looked weak and the chain was on the verge of crumbling.

The halftime whistle did wonders to calm nerves around the Omerican camp. Not even five minutes into the second half, Argyris and Jessie Beckett were able to force an error out of Mechiel Megelink: the ball wound up in the back of the net thanks to a botched clearance. Ouna were able to briefly rally back, but Red Bolton somehow doubled Omerica’s advantage an hour in via a strike of seeming desperation.

Obafemi Essoa was having none of that. He quickly halved his nation’s deficit in much the same way Argyris levelled the score in the first half. Ouna were back in control and had all of the momentum; then it all went firmly to shit for the Incorrigibles in the 77th minute. Under pressure from Ouna’s front three, Aristide de Felice attempted a backpass to Valentine Augustin, but the ball wound up wide of the shot stopper.

Own goal. The Incorrigibles had surrendered their own lead. The final whistle blew before another goal could be scored on either end, ending Omerica’s perfect run in Reçueçn.

What exactly happened in Genève is beyond the wit of man. If anything, it may have been the display of an overconfident team who thought they had it in the bag. Clearly, nothing could have been further from the truth. Omerica instead looked spooked by a team with absolutely nothing to lose and everything to prove. Ouna come out of the match looking better for wear and for that we ought to say “chapeau”.

IAC Group E as things stand

Now the draw does secure Omerica automatic advancement as one of the top two teams in Group E, but victory now hinges on defeating (or at least avoiding defeat against) Barsland. If the Incorrigibles can secure that crucial point, they will have a match against one of the wild card third-place teams to look forward to. If Barsland manage their biggest snipe of the campaign thus far, they’ll get the wild cards and Omerica will stare down the runners-up of Group F for a place in the quarterfinals.

If Omerica win the group, Squornshelous will be the most threatening quarterfinal opponents possible; if not, Kelssek will fill that role. Given that Omerica has beaten the Red-and-Blacks in their only prior meeting, while being defeated by Kelssekians, Omerica’s preferred quarterfinal opponents are obvious.

Elsewhere in the group, HUElavia currently sit in third place and will be looking to surpass their Barslandic rivals, who are two points ahead, but have an identical +3 goal difference. HUElavia’s path to the knockout is therefore simple: defeat Ouna. If Barsland cannot defeat the Incorrigibles, HUElavia will advance as the runners-up of Group E, but even if Barsland do win, that result will very likely be irrelevant.

Ouna and Tamgu both remain alive on four points each, but will need to claim one of the four wild card spots to advance, being unable to overtake Barsland’s eight-point tally; for them to manage that is probably unlikely. Monglechabagd, though, are just plain out. RIP in pieces, Monglechabagd.

The Blog verdict? Cross your finger and clench your butt cheeks. We are in for a bumpy ride. ◇

DU-UKH, UUK – Keiserholde, Fujai — Well well well, if it isn't that time of day again. I'm Kaje Lokken, normally your cheery indie music reporter filling in for Berit today on DU-UKH, Den Blå Duken, UiKeiserholde's officially unofficial student radio. Now let's get on to the Idrottsminutt ahead of today's IAC match!

As it's the final match in the group stage, FjFF [Fujansk Fotbollsforbund (Fujansk Football Union)] has pulled out all the stops and made a deal with FJU to livestream it in Nykanalstadion. Notably, FjFF has no idea how many will attend, now that nationwide protests have reached their second straight day as Fradov, Grønna, and Sentrum leaders refuse to step down after vote-rigging scandal rocked the country less than 48 hours ago. The word we've been getting is that people are setting up ways to project the match at the protests, and that there will be a march to Nykanalen for FjFF's livestream. Football and democracy, what could be better?

On that note, regardless of the outcome, there will be no Fujansk government representative at today's match against Kavagrad, as all ministers have been recalled to Fujai pending Velkting investigation. The Monarch has also returned to Solrunsborg from Liventia to try to restore order to the government and help oversee the coming election.

Now back to the game. If the Landslag doesn't pull off a blowout of some description, there is almost no hope for advancing to the Round of 16. Those are, sadly, just the facts. That blowout also needs to align with Reçueçn winning their game against the Andromedans, and, although they're our rivals, we sure do hope they pull out ahead!! Beyond that, if every other third place team across the groups performs terribly, we might have a chance.

So that's a lot of stars that need to align. To be honest I'm not dreadfully hopeful, but that's not gonna stop me from enjoying the match! Regardless of how the scores shake out, every Fujar can easily say they're proud of the Landslag, and I sure hope they're proud of themselves too.

New Lusitania carried their high hopes back to Renwyll to play Kurovija. A few changes as Miranda was given a chance over Carriça and Leiteiro with Nevais returning with the rest remaining the same. The young opposition put their usual eleven composed of Aigars in goal with Pukitis, Koudas, Sirkas, Kirzinausukas making up the back four, Kronbergs, Kriviens, Rusas in the middle of the park Sriubas and Rudzitis alongside Sirants up front. Plenty of good plays and chances in this one. Kriviens could've kick started it all if not for an offside. The first half also brought shots for Veiga and Gama but it would be Sirants the one to score. He'd put it hard and low into the back of the net. Into half time and the score was unfavourable to the Lusitanians. In the second half, Jota came on for Trincão for the last forty-five in a team that tried to focus and get the equaliser. Despite great shots by the substitute as well as Silveira and Gama. However it would be a free-kick by Fernando in the final moments of the game that got the team the equaliser and a point that could keep them in the game. FULL TIME: 1-1.

SAFE HARBOUR FOR NEW LUSITANIA
New Lusitania 2-0 Port Ember

The fourth and penultimate match would be against Port Ember which despite their good form at the World Cup, hadn't been up to their best in the Independent Associations Cup. New Lusitania brought Lopes back for a second stint, to refresh Patríce for the impending game against Lisander, as well as the return of Nevais. Cavalariça started instead of Jota or Trincal. Port Ember with the usual suspects for today's match. New Lusitania clearly started better than their adversaries but failed to get their chances in the net. However just before halftime, a corner from the right gave Gama his first goal of the tournament after a great volley in.At the blow of the whistle it was a favourable turnout for the Selecção. The two teams certainly came back with a lot to talk about back in the dressing rooms which could help them in the closing statements of the game. For once in the last few matches, the Lusitanian defence had glimpses of 81 in which they were one of the finest. The shots that were attempted did not get close enough half the time. It wasn't for lack of trying, there were 12 situations where Port Ember had the ball in the final third, one way or another. However the goal on the seventieth minute seemed to tie everything neatly with a bow. Veiga after so many attempts on target in the competition finally managed the goal following coming off a pass from the captain himself. New Lusitania had grabbed the three points as they now played what had seemed one of the teams in form, Lisander. FULL TIME: 2-0

Post Match Reaction
Coach Santa Cruz decided that for once "there was nothing but praise to give to his team" as the man of the moment, Veiga said:
"I'm extremely happy to be playing this well at such a prestigious tournament and to grab man of the match in this one with a goal I am so pleased with is great". STL's Jornada Gave top marks to the team as the coach said they had to be at their "A-game like always" for the Lisander game.

In the Mayoral Chamber in Reçueçn City, about a year ago–The Mayor of Beçonailles stood to speak. Jean-Luc's boss had a gut that hung slightly below his belt, and it was hard to hold a conversation with him without thinking, what a politician. He always seemed too friendly. The conversation was always pleasant–it was hard not to like the man–but afterwards you felt that you must have been had somehow–clearly he wasn't being that friendly for no reason.

In the office, the Mayor always seemed like the stereotypical boss–a bit out of touch, relying on his younger employees to stay relevant. You treated him with respect, because he was your boss. But by the same token, you and the staff cracked harmless jokes about him behind his back.

The Mayor, however, was a genuine man, and had not become a political leader by manipulation. He was a man who cared, and who could become impassioned when he felt it was the right moment. His speeches made you feel patriotic, and willing to do something to make Reçueçn a better place. They stirred emotion in you and stirred you to action; you wanted to go out and vote afterward. You could sometimes tell when one of these speeches was about to come on, and Jean-Luc in his time working for the Mayor had gotten pretty good at this. This time, however, he was taken by surprise as the Mayor stood and cleared his throat in the way he always did when he was about to say something serious. Jean-Luc hadn't even noticed that the Mayor had requested to be put on the agenda.

"My fellow countrymen and women: I have received word today that the Co-Principality of Vertagny have ratified the amendment to the articles of alliance which we voted some months ago. They are the last state in the alliance to do so, but apparently when it comes to football, even the prince and the bishop can manage to find common ground." A small wave of laughter rolled through the room. The Mayor already had everyone's attention. "With Vertagny's accession, the territories that comprise Reçueçn have come to unanimous agreement. As soon as the courier has brought them the official document to be signed, it will be law, and it will fall to us to settle the last details of its implementation."

"There is one chief provision which has not yet been decided, and I believe you are all aware of what I speak. Never before has an entirely new ministry been added to the Reçuecian government, so there is no procedure for appointing the first minister. As it was this house that passed the law creating this position, I believe it also falls to us to fill it, subject, of course, to the approval of the House of Lords."

The Mayor smiled. "Now relax, I am not about to present myself as a candidate for minister. I am not qualified for that position. But I happen to know someone who is, and I believe once more you all know who I am speaking of." Jean-Luc had no idea who he was speaking of. "Not only is he qualified, I believe he is the most qualified of anyone for this job. After all, he is the man who came up with the idea, and then had the drive, vision and persistence to make that idea become a reality. He was motivated by his passion, by his love for a team, and it is thanks to him that that team still exists and that Reçuecian football will be reborn. It is thanks to him that sport in our nation has a bright future." Jean-Luc couldn't believe his ears.

"Jean-Luc Lassalle has been the initiative and the drive behind this movement; he has provided the vision; but he has also provided the technical knowledge and the legwork to make this a political reality. Without him, none of this would have happened." The Mayor paused, and took a breath. He seemed to have something in his throat.

"When Monsieur Lassalle first proposed to me the idea of a ministry of sport, I turned him down. I thought it was the craziest email he had ever sent me. I was just looking for some way to be popular with the youth again!" Another ripple of laughter ran through the room, but the Mayor continued. "Obviously, sport is too universal and too important to be turned into a partisan issue. I'm so happy that this has not become my initiative, or my party's initiative, but rather a popular movement across the nation, backed by those of all political bents, ratified unanimously by every region of the country. I was happy to see Jean-Luc lead the way and rally the support of everyone behind him, not just my constituents. But I also knew what that meant." Whatever was in the Mayor's throat seemed to be bothering him a little bit. His voice cracked. "Jean-Luc Lassalle is one of the best staffers I have ever had in all my years in government. He has become more than that to me. He is my intern, but he is also an example to the country; a leader, a visionary, an influence, someone for us all to look up to and imitate. He is my friend, and, I hope it is okay for me to say–" the Mayor looked at Jean-Luc and his eyes were glistening– "he has become like a son to me. It will be very hard to see him move on, because it means I will lose him, I won't have him in the office every day..."

"I'm sorry." All of a sudden the Mayor seemed a bit embarrassed, and he tried to wipe his nose as if it had done something wrong. "My apologies. All this is to say however, that I know it is time for Monsieur Lassalle to move on, because he has much greater things in store for him. I believe you all agree with me, and I count on all of your support in making this nomination for Jean-Luc Lassalle to be named the first Monsieur le Ministre du Sport du Reçueçn!"

Barsland have put their 2nd place position in the group in huge danger following a shocking draw against outsiders Monglechabagd in a game dictated more by passion than by tactics. It was perhaps Mason's idea to rest his two wingers Jones and Banks that stopped Barsland scoring any more goals, but once again questions are being asked about the defence and their inability to keep a clean sheet

Barsland had another slow start, conceding after only 12 minutes from a corner poorly defended by Smith but Lawson was able to equalize soon after with a brilliantly placed shot from just inside the area. Both teams struggled in midfield and defence, and the game descended into a long range ping-pong match. At the very least it was entertaining for the neutrals, but Barsland fans were biting their nails watching their team struggle this much against the weakest team in the group. Lawson scored a second goal and Barsland were happy to sit back and regroup, but before the half-time whistle could blow Monglechabagd striker Varsen penetrated the defence to bring the score level.

A victim of their complacency Barsland went into the second half deflated, and it took another Monglechabagd goal to finally get their concentration levels back up. Jackie Taylor was able to equalize again, scoring a free kick from just outside the box. Lawson managed to get a hat-trick thanks to a weak Monglechabagd defence, but Barsland's own backline was tested again, and Wilsen scored the eighth goal in a game that entertained everyone but the managers.

[Bliuji]

After getting upset by a team that has no international experience at all, Bliuji manages to still qualify. Not much to say other than they played like shit against The Dragons and Bronies. On the other hand they have to go up against Recuecn the best team in this tournament statistically. Worst case scenario Recuecn shuts out Bliuji, best case scenario Bliuji plays to the best of their ability and wins by a goal which is probably not gonna happen against against Recuecn, they haven't lost yet and there is nothing stopping them from winning it all. We have seen that Bliuji can compete with really good teams like Free Republics for example they only lost by a goal and they managed to beat Sajnur as well 2 really great teams.

Injuries always seem to be an issue in soccer but now that star midfielder Sidor Alexandrov is back it should help Bliuji stay in the game. Not to mention all the new players like Spartacus Yuriev, Philemon Yefremov and Nikon Kotov are also really great aditions to the team as well, and let's not forget that Goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov is doing wonders for the defense only allowing 7 goals against, that's the lowest in group c! On offense however they need to step it up, we know what they're capable of and if they can get more shots on net and create more opportunities is what they need at this point.

"This is it boys it's do or die right here, aside from Free Republics, Recuecn will be the hardest team we go up against. We know what you all are capable of, we have seen you guys stick with some of the best teams in the world. I'm not expecting you guys to win, I'm expecting you guys to go out there and give it everything you have got for 90 minutes straight, we don't just scrimmage in practice all for nothing this is where the hard work pays off right on the field. And now that Alexandrov is back with the midfield I'm confident you guys can make it competitive out there"

"Does this crackhead actually think we are going to beat Recuecn?" Carter Woods whispered to Raymond Sebanochev

Everyone stopped and stared at Carter

Coach looked at Nikon Kotov you could practically see the veins coming out from his neck! that's how angry he was.

"And that goes for you too Nikon!" he screamed "That goes for all of you because we are running a soccer team here not weenie hut jr's!!!"

"We do all this hard work in practice all for nothing, no wonder you guys got your asses handed to you by a team with no international experience, you are just lucky you guys beat Sajnur, you got lucky they didn't play very well because as far as I'm concerned Sajnur should have whooped our asses 50 to nothing! and this is exactly why we played like dog shit in the world cup all because you fools won't take this seriously, all you people are drunk and fat work a little harder next time and maybe we will have a couple of points on the board!!"

Oona Kerry is arguably the best player on the Eagles. She has played much of her high school and college soccer overseas. Both of her parents worked for the Andromedan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was their only daughter.

During her first 18 years, Kerry lived in at least 15 countries. To this day, when Kerry wakes up, the first thing she does is look out of the window and figure out exactly where she is. This morning, Kerry woke up at the hotel in Reçueçn City.

Kerry could see the Chapel Field House just down the street. Just over a week ago, the Eagles won their first game in that very stadium. Kerry herself scored the deciding goal against the Fleftic Nationals. Kerry still remembered that feeling. She longed to feel that elation once again.

Kerry left her room at 5:12 and ran around the Field House. Kerry hadn’t had much stability in her life, so she enveloped herself in an exercise routine. She has been running nearly every morning since before she was a freshman in high school. Even before she played soccer, Kerry maintained a strict exercise regimen and a strict diet. But Kerry also took a little time out each morning to admire the sunrise. This daily ritual has kept Oona Kerry grounded wherever she was.

This morning, Kerry stopped across the street from a medieval Chapel. When the Eagles were here before, Kerry would stop to admire the ancient structure. This was where Kerry would close her eyes and catch her breath. As she opened her eyes this morning, she was surprised to see that a number of the reserve players were walking in her direction.

“See, Hattie!” Erin Height was pointing. “I told you she’d be here.”

“Rochelle.” Kerry talks to Rochelle Wyatt. “What’s going on?”

“We’ve come here to pray,” Wyatt says.

“Are you sure,” Kerry asks. “This is a Catholic Church. Are any of you…”

“We all believe, Oona.”

“Plus, we wanted to take a look,” Chris Park says. “This church is over 500 years old.”

Kerry attended Catholic schools in a few of the countries where she lived. She still believes in a supreme being, but doesn’t consider herself religious.

“So, you’re going to pray for what? That the Free Republicans get struck by lightning?”

“That’s not how it works.” D.L. Dandridge, the youngest member of the Eagles, explains. “We pray that He watches over us. We pray that nobody gets hurt. We pray that our efforts in the field bear fruit.”

“So, you’re all farmers?”

“No,” Erin Height interjects. “We pray for good karma.”

Kerry is now thoroughly confused.

“So…” Lowenthal steps up. “May we join you?”

Lowenthal, like all of the other girls, assumes that Kerry prays every morning. Kerry sees no reason to tell them otherwise.

“Yes. Let us pray on this crisp, autumn morning.”

The front gate is open. The girls walk to the sanctuary door, which is open. A couple of nuns had begun their preparation for morning service. They sit down when they see the group.

“It’s early.” Kerry gives instructions as if she actually prays here. “So, just a brief silent prayer, then we go back. Nothing weird.”

“It’s okay,” Jackie Bishop says. “We don’t speak in tongues.”

Kerry joins her teammates in the back pews and engages in a brief prayer. Kerry saves her doubts and questions about religion for another day.

HUElavia finally makes history with their emphatic victory!

HUElavia came into Matchday 5 with a simple message: "Win and you're in." The squad that had brought a close qualification to World Cup 83 knew that they had to seriously win in order to make it to the knockout rounds of a significant tournament. Once again, Los Amarillos had to play in Stade de l’Alliance, in Genève, where they lost their first two games of the group stage. This time around, they were not willing to see them fall a third straight time in the stadium. They faced off against Ouna, who also needed to win to aspire a spot in the Round-of-16.

HUElavia came out and started a series of heavy attacks against Ouna, which either were blocked by players or the goalie from Ouna, or they hit the bar. In the 14th minute, the attacks payed off, as Gallegos gave a low but strong shot that slid past the goalie. The fans and bench of HUElavia erupted, as the lead had them going through as runner's up. Twenty minutes later, in the 34th minute, Ouna would get a free-kick, thanks to a foul provoked by Toni. Ouna's captain took the kick and it was too strong for Ricardo to stop. The Ounan players grabbed the ball and ran back, while their fans were cheering for the possibility of a comeback. Both teams would not have any chances for the rest of the first half.

The second half came, and HUElavia started once again hitting heavy attacks, which bore fruit. In the 49th minute, A cross by Prso met the head of Cristiano, which went straight into the back of the net, putting Los Amarillos up 1-2. The crowd was celebrating the lead, but HUElavia wanted to cement that pass to the knockout round. In the 62nd minute, Petit took it upon himself to score, where he ran past two defenders before chipping the shot over the goalie and making it 1-3. The HUElavian crowd was cheering and jumping to the point that the stadium was shaking, and the bench ran over to Petit to jump him for his goal. In the 77th minute, a foul over Petit allowed substitute Eduardo to attempt a shot via free-kick. He took the shot and it curved over the human wall and goalkeeper to make it 1-4. Once again, another mob occurred, and the crowd was jumping and celebrating. The crowd sang for the remainder of the game until the final whistle, where a huge roar was heard and the bench raided the field to celebrate with the 11 players who made history.

HUElavia finally made significant progress with their Football team, and thanks to Omerica's 4-3 win over Barsland, HUElavia advance Group E as runner-up, and avoid the difficult match against Group D winner Kelssek, to which Barsland will face off against. Los Amarilos face off against a familiar rival, Lisander, for the Round-of-16. These two countries have already met each other in the NS Futsal World Cup Finals twice, with HUElavia winning both, and they look to extend their success into Football. While Lisander are the favorites, HUElavia is running on a high level of confidence after seeing themselves down with 2 losses and 0 points, to produce a "Reverse Sweep" and win 3 straight. The team and fans have faith that they can produce an upset in the Round of 16 in Arena der Alpen, in Heldingen.

TAMGU CRASH OUT, NEROVOD QUITS JOB AFTER FIGHT

The last few days were quite stressful and tense for Tamgu, bad results, infighting, the whole Estogas deal and much more were too heavy on Tamgu for them to carry. Once an unbreakable team with great spirit, it turned in a very short amount of time into a big and violent mess. The team was been divided into two groups, one supports Nerovod and the other supports the Football Federation's Management. The fight was initially just a meeting with Nerovod to talk about his decisions, but what the Management said was unacceptable to Nerovod, he jumped up from his seat and onto the head manager, who he was quickly separated from. The rest of the Management took sides and a big fight started in the room. The players heard of this, and they also got split. Their arguments weren't as violent but it is safe to say a few friendships were ruined.



The Tamguna people's disappointment quickly turned into anger, which was not what they needed before the general election. Every sports channel is debating who is right. Tensions have increased to a point where people are getting around in groups, and not making any interactions with others. Even the most popular streets are now empty, as they are seen as unsafe. Life has stopped in Tamgu. Woe Betide Us.

Back to the Nerovod-Management fight, Nerovod quit his job as Technical Director of The National Team of The United States of Tamgu (that's a mouthful, innit?) for a more modest job of "Unemployed". Takra Resak, the only member of The National Team to stay calm, took the job of Technical Director of The National Team of The United States of Tamgu and brought in his friend Halle Kram as assistant manager. He didn't comment on the situation in the team and only said that he is going to try and calm things down.

Tamgu's performance in the WC84 might be heavily affected by this turn of events but with the new management, the new squad selection by Resak and a little bit of Tamgu magic (if there's any left) they might just make it. The fans won't be expecting much so that will take a little bit of pressure off of Tamgu's shoulders. Right now we can only sit and speculate so that god damned World Cup better start quickly.

National team is more important than Club Invitationals, says Adrian Stannis

Five matches of IAC were already played. Three wins, one draw and one loss guaranteed Lisander the second place in Group F. Solid situations of Christian Nantel and Lukas Hiltmann playing well are always good signals. Lisander is returning to good form. The bad phase should finish soon. Luís Ávila still shows much quality, even after the injury that left him out of WCQ 82. Saber Neville is a great player, but he still can't reach. Tássio Camden seems somewhat disappointing, but I understand his problems. Not only he, but all of the Club Sparta players are suffering from harsh words from Club Sparta fans. The most traditional club in Lisander was trashed 0-7 in Dwile Tournament first qualifying stage by FC Soessch while fielding a mixed team. Supporters are angered, even threatened not supporting the national team in World Cup Qualifiers if the Federation insists in "steal its players for each and every international match". But that's a risk for a top-flight club, even more in a nation that is developing an international football culture only recently. The other lisanderian teams in Dwile International, also without NT caps, failed to qualify to Group Stage same as Sparta.

The results, for Adrian Stannis, were expected. "We have to focus on the massive development, in every possible front. Sometimes, we'll need to make choices, and I really hope that our fans understand that both Independents Cup and Di Bradini Cup are vital for national football development, even more than Invitational Tournaments". Before the closing of this report, we hadn't notice from any responses from the fans to these Stannis words.

But, in fact, Lisander is doing a good job in both competitions, being unbeaten on DBC and only a loss in IAC. The mood is so positive after the draw, that even HUElavian media is considering A Nacional as the favourite to win tonight's match. Andreas Michaelichen, the national team Captain and Goalkeeper, thinks a little different:

Anders Michaelichen isn't as confident of Lisander win as HUElavian media.

"We'll have a heavy game tonight. Let's take nothing for granted. HUElavian team is very strong, and they finished their group in second place, just as our team. Yet, they were able to develop in the last season, while as all of you know enough, we weren't. We'll go back to Arena der Alpen again, hoping for a win, and we'll give our best to give this win to our fans in Lisander. Also, it makes me wonder, we haven't even left Heldingen. The Federation could establish a permanent facility here. It's a lovely place!"

Bliuji played extraordinary well in all area's on the field especially offense despite not scoring. The efforts between Spartacus Yuriev, Philemon Yefremov and Daniel Lyskov were out of this world. And how can we not forget the efforts by Erik Belov, Gabriel Kolesnikov and Sidor Alexandrov in the midfield. As well as Karp Yuriev making huge plays on defense. Fans were on the edge of their seats for this one, goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov face 13 shots on target whilst Recuecn goalkeeper Gerauld Firaut faced 20 shots on target stopping all of them, absolutely insane!

The game itself started out energetic in the 12th minute with Defense men Karp Yuriev for Bliuji giving a long ball to Erik Belov, who then danced around Recuecn defenders making them look like ballerinas only to end-up firing the ball directly at the face of Recuecn goalkeeper Gerauld Firaut! And it seems like Recuecn didn't take that too lightly with a lot of trash talking going on after that one and a fight almost broke out before the refs got in-between the players. Shortly after that in the 15th minute Recuecn offense men Franky Adams received a cross from Freeman Lebo, the ball was then headed by Adams and resulted in a big time save from Andriy Pyatov! Things had calmed down for a bit after that and it wasn't up until the 35th minute when Franky Adams jetted pass Tim Kolesnikov leaving his ankles in the DUST! then finding himself all alone on a breakaway he fired it aiming for the top right corner which was stopped again by Andriy Pyatov, the crowd was going absolutely insane.

If you thought that was crazy the second half is where this game got even more intense, stating off in the 60th mintue Spartacus Yuriev received a perfect pass from Philemon Yefremov, with the ball Spartacus Yuriev saw an opening and passed the ball down to Daniel Lyskov who had a wide open net! But fired it wide right of the net. Later on in the 77th minute Franky Adams with the chance to redeem himself received a pass from Norman Bright, proceeded to make his way through the Bliuji midfield, then totally juked out Karp Yuriev and Lawrence Biryukov on another breakaway he fired the ball bottom left corner! fans were going out of their mind the atmosphere was so crazy! At that point Bliuji had done all they could, they played an amazing game and came up inches short from the victory.

Inside Bliuji's locker room

"Boys I think that might of been the best soccer you have ever played, in my 35 years of coaching professional soccer I have never seen a game that crazy in my life. You boys did everything right that game, there were almost no mistakes you made; you were astronomical in every aspect. I truly regret what I said yesterday and I know some of you may of taken that personal, but hey you boys need to be proud of yourselves for playing a hell of a game against one of the best teams in the world, one thing that we can take away from this game is chemistry, without chemistry you guys would have been in shambles no doubt about it, but not only chemistry it also was a lot of hard work, every one of you gave a 110% tonight and that is something to be proud of! I'm happy to be your coach and be proud that we qualified. We got a break before we have to get ready for the world cup so lets rest for a bit!"

"Well said coach" He said as confidently as possible

"I really want to say sorry for what happened last night with the entire incident, it was wrong for me to act like a child during a team meeting"

"Don't worry about it Raymond I also acted a little childish" Andriy replied

"Thanks coach"

"Keep up the good work Raymond you are an amazing player" Andriy smiled

Raymond Sebanochev and Andriy Shevchenko walked onto the team bus being late the only open seat for Raymond was next to Erik Belov

"What was that all about haha" said Erik

Raymond had an embarrassed look

"Last night" he mumbled

"Hahah that shit show that happened last night what did you say to him" said Erik

"I dunno" Erik Responded

"I said I was sorry and that's it nothing more nothing less" said Raymond

HUElavia strike into the Quarter-Finals!

Coming into the Round-of-16, HUElavia was into unfamiliar territory in a football tournament. Facing off against a rival, while making their first ever appearance in a knockout round of a major tournament, Los Amarillos were determined to not let this moment go to waste, especially after pulling off an improbable comeback.

HUElavia faced off against Lisander, a country that Los Amarillos had faced previously in two Futsal World Cup Finals, with HUElavia winning both editions. Now, they finally met in a Football tournament, with a little over majority of the bookies making a bet that Lisander was the favorites to advance. The match was played in Arena der Alpen, in Heldingen, which was the first time HUElavia played in the stadium.

The match kicked off with both teams playing very carefully to prevent any errors from their passes. Some notable highlights included Petit having a one-on-one chance against Michaelichen and had managed to chip the ball over the keeper, only for it to hit the roof of the net. Another chance involved Cristiano taking a marvelous free kick only to be saved by Michaelichen and hit away for a corner. Lisander had their own chances, including a vicious shot by Potenza that went through the legs of Marchena and went past Ricardo, only to hit the side of the net. Another one involved Somerville having a Free-Kick stopped by Ricardo, which looked as if the ball was going to burn off the gloves and hands of the vice-captain. The first half-ended 0-0.

The second half came, and quickly Lisander took to attack HUElavia, which payed off in the 52nd minute, with a one-two pass by Avila that met the boot of Camden to slide past Ricardo and into the net to make it 0-1 for Lisander, having the fans roar in celebration at the chance to win over a sporting rival. The goal served as a wake-up call, as HUElavia responded within 90 seconds in the 54th minute, as Del Horno slid a vicious shot past the fingertips of Michaelichen to tie it at 1-1. Both teams began to bombard each other with shots, with them missing wide or being blocked by players. All was looking as if the match was going to head into Extra Time until the 87th minute, where Del Horno started to run past defenders, and a pass by substitute Prso met the left foot of Del Horno to blast it past Michaelichen to make it 2-1. Thousands of HUElavians in the arena let out a big roar and cheer that the stadium once again started to shake and the fans started to sing up until the Final Whistle, where HUElavia extended their success against Lisander to another sport, making it 3 straight wins against them in all sports.

With the win, HUElavia will face off against fellow Pot 2 team, Kelssek who had defeated their group with ease, including a surprise 3-1 win over Group Favorites Juvencus, and had defeated Barsland in the Round-of-16 in a 4-3 Penalty-Shootout victory after a 3-3 draw. Bookies have Kelssek as the favorites for the Quarter-Finals match in Stade de l’Alliance, Genève as the venue. Bad news: Sajnur have hosts and previous third place Recuecn next up

Sajnur's national football team have brushed aside the obstacles to reach the quarterfinals of the Independent Associations Cup, Sajnur's first in any tournament since joining the WCC. The defence has improved over the last two matches, finally recording a clean sheet against The Penguinland, and the attack has continued to fire, especially in the 6-2 rout of Aaaaaa. Sajnur can't be too complacent, though, as both these teams were in Pot 4 and our team is yet to beat superior opposition. Sajnur have rode considerable fortune in getting to this point, with Bliuji's loss to Dragons and Bronies, whose only other win was against five loss Penguinland, handing Sajnur second in Group C on a silver platter and allowing Sajnur to draw Aaaaaa instead of Recuecn. That fortune won't save us anymore, though, as Recuecn beat Bliuji and are now favourites to beat us.

The vital tournament saving win against Penguinland started quickly, as Sajnur recorded five shots on target in the first 15 minutes, but it was the 16th minute that produced a goal, and once again it was our captain Jessica Siafik feeding our star striker Andre Naulo. Siafik intercepted a pass from a Penguinland midfielder and carried the ball upfield, evading two opponents. Finding open space for herself, she baited the Penguinland backline, allowing Naulo to run behind and Siafik to pick him out with a lob over the defenders. Naulo then cantered his way into the box, faked the keeper, and posted the ball to the empty net. Sajnur then passed it around for the rest of the half as the Penguins parked the bus and Siafik was too busy eating chocolate cigars to bother trying to get through. Sajnur had 67% possession, but only two shots on target after Naulo's goal. The second half saw a return of the energy seen in the first 15 minutes, and this time results were more immediate as the 48th minute saw Siafik score a bamboozling goal. The team was in the middle of tiring out the Penguins with quick passing in the Penguinland half when Siafik drifted off to the sideline to collect another chocolate cigar. Two Penguinland defenders followed her, and with cigar in hand the Sajnuran captain ran diagonally towards goal. Spotting Siafik's run was David Kiral, and the left back posted a through pass to Siafik, who outran her pursuers, rainbow flicked the keeper, and volleyed home for 2-0. Siafik and Naulo entertained the crowd with some tricks for a while longer, but before the hour was up both of them had been substituted off, Naulo for Parjazu and Siafik for Tatiana Pavlov, and Kahala Murje had come off for Salloah too. The team did continue attacking the Penguinland goal for a while, but the Penguin goalkeeper was up to the task and Sajnur were mostly content with passing it around and protecting a lead they knew would put them through, and with Bliuji unbelievably 2-0 down at the Siegstadion, Sajnur cruised to second in the group, with the captain cooking burgers and sausages on a portable BBQ during the last 20 minutes of the match.

Sajnur's second round affair against Aaaaaa was altogether less sedate than the group stage ending at the Renwyll Sporting Field, the Reformation Stadium spectators once again witnessing the antithesis of traditional defensive football. Sajnur's flamboyant yet silky smooth setup yielded its first blow against the alphabetically challenged opposition afuer just eight minutes, with Ahmed Nazar waltzing past the opposing defenders and skimming the ball into the bottom corner. The second goal was rather less elegant, with Zain Hasan taking a Jessica Siafik pass and driving his way through two jockeying Vowelese and smashing the ball through the keepers fingers. The first half was conpleted with a third goal for Sajnur, as Siafik left defenders in her wake chasing purple and red phantoms while she appeared several yards away, ball at foot, then ball at net. The second half started in much the same way, with Kaori Hajat launching a through pass the way of Dario Tule, the winger then slicing the ball between keeper and post smartly for four. Kahala Murje made way for Hatu Raglan at the hour mark, and soon after the fresh defender scored his first international goal, as Siafik fired a corner at his head for him to place in the goal. Sadly for him, his defensive exploits weren't quite so succesful as Aaaaaa then scored two goals in less than ten minutes. But all was to be restored, as Siafik won a free kick. Instead of going for it herself, she instead clocked her third assist and fed Andre Naulo with his prescribed goal for the day, the striker leaping high and heading it down to goal.

That's right ladies and gentlemen, the fix is definitely in.

Nowhere in football is safe from corruption and greed, not even the sideshow attraction that is the IAC. Sure, you know that the big high stakes tourneys in AO, Esportiva, and Rushmore are rife with backroom deals and bribery, but as you'll see from the evidence I've gathered the demons of avarice hold sway at every level of international football!

Point Number 1! The lowest group stage finisher to advance to the second round was Bliuji, of course, with 7 points and a -1 goal differential. Who were they drawn against you ask? Our hosts, Reçueçn of course. "Oh, but Salwan, the round of sixteen matchups were already fixed based on group finishing order weeks ago." Bah, wake up. Take a look at the overall standings after the group stage and you'll notice something interesting. Bliuji shouldn't have even been in the second round, much less been lined up as a doormat for the hosts to move on. Abanhfleft, at fourth place in Group A, also had seven points but had a +3 GD, and scored 7 more goals than Bliuji. What kind of tournament are we running where the teams that finish with the best records don't get to advance? Why this arbitrary limitation of the final four spots to teams that finished in third place? I'll tell you why. Reçueçn narrowly escaped their first match with Abanhfleft by a score of 2-1, and they didn't want to face the Fleftics again now that they've found their form. For shame IAC organizers, for shame!

Point Number 2! Look at the rest of the hosts' side of the bracket, its almost tailor made to get them as far as possible. Oh sure, some of you will point out that Drawkland and Free Republics are both on that side, and both ranked above Reçueçn, but look who's playing each other in the quarters. That's right, Drawkland and the Free Republics. They'll wear each other out while the hosts have a much easier task against 75th ranked Sajnur. (Sorry to any of my readers from Sajnur, but your team ain't Free Republics, that's just a fact). Having to face a higher ranked team in the semis might seem like a problem for this fix theory, but they couldn't make it too obvious, could they? Take it from me, this whole side of the draw is custom made to hand Reçueçn the easiest path possible to the final, while making them look like the heroic underdogs. Sickening!

Point Number 3! We have to play New Lustania again? What. the. shit. The only team who've found a way to put a goal past us all tournament and they just coincidentally happen to be our quarterfinal opponents. Oh, and who would our opponents have been if the Luisão side been knocked out? Yeah, Omerica who eliminated us in the first round two years ago. However it worked out, this draw is stacked against us, gotta make things as difficult as possible for the highest ranked team on the other side of the draw, right? Honestly, it drives me crazy just to look at this tournament bracket. How no one in the media can see what an obvious fix it is, is totally beyond me.

Point Number 4! For the first time in footballing history, there's a nation that's harder to pronounce than Squornshelous. I see "Reçueçn" and I just go crosseyed for a moment before I skip it. The least they could do is provide a phonetic spelling or something, maybe include it at the bottom of every post.

Gotta admit, that last point is less supporting evidence and more a personal pet peeve. Oh well, I'm leaving it. Anyway, full marks to Donnell and her talented team. They've made an international quarterfinal for the second time this cycle, after not having gotten past a second round during Donnell's tenure. Any doubts people had about her ability to get this team over the hump after WC83 qualifying should be entirely dispelled. The future looks bright for this team, and they should stand a real chance of qualifying for World Cup 84. Don't be surprised when the IAC ends in tears though, because I will say I told you so, because I'm telling you so. Now.

Man, it's times like these you almost miss the Imperium. Hideous human rights abuses sure, but at least when someone jobbed us on the field you could count on a retaliatory airstrike or something.

After the Round of 16 match against Fujai (which was admittedly both a great game and a nerve-wracking close call), DNSN had set up a little event for Drawkian fans where any Drawkian celebrities in attendance were invited to come and have a small meet and greet with other fans. Cam Cross and Nicole Warren, still being famous sports icons, were there. Ellzidan, as you could imagine, was nowhere to be seen. However, it was interesting as Iarocav himself was present. He apparently would be flying in for all the playoff matches and flying back, being very busy.

For the pair of athletes though, the curiosity got the better of them. Standing around in the "green room" after the event (it was actually a large luxury trailer that had been pulled into the parking lot by DNSN next to the media area), the pair noticed Iarocav was standing alone on his phone and decided to go up to him. The revelation from Ellzidan that the Elite Eleven were not only suspicious but possibly outright malicious was shocking. The questions burned in their mind how someone like Iarocav could ever allow a group like that to exist in Drawkland at all, much less have them be in the public eye.

As the two approached, Iarocav looked up from his device and pocketed it, offering a smile. "Hello there Cam and Nicole, of renowned Kick Corps fame! What can I do for you both?"

"Hello there, um, sir-" Cam said tentatively.

"Oh, no need for the formalities, we're at a sporting event! What's on your mind?"

"Well, we were kinda curious about how the Elite Eleven came about and so we asked Ellzidan about it," Nicole started. "And we have to say we're kinda confused as to why you'd let them stick around after all that."

"After all what? What do you mean?"

The two were confused, and both gave slightly quizzical expressions. Nicole continued, "Well, y'know ... the whole illegitimate immortality thing, and the Elstrund detecting evil during the Maliganthe moon ... that stuff."

It was Iarocav's turn to be confused now, "I have to admit, I have not a clue what you guys are talking about. What sort of story did Ellzidan tell you?"

Nicole and Cam quickly corroborated the story to Iarocav, who seemed to be mulling it over in his head as he stared at the ground. Once they finished, he shook his head with a grimace.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what Ellzidan got all of that nonsense from. As far as I could tell, the Elite Eleven boys seemed to have good intentions when they asked me what they could do. And I don't remember there being 20 or 30 in their party when they requested my help, I just remember the eleven we know today."

"Maybe you or Ellzidan's memories are faulty? I can't imagine you can easily remember things hundreds of years later," Cam offered.

"You'd be surprised," Iarocav chuckled. "Perhaps some time passed between their meetings with the two of us. I certainly don't know the full story, but I could tell you what I do know. If you want me to, that is."

The two glanced at each other and back to the Drawkionel. They both nodded expectantly.

"Well, I suppose I can't pinpoint the exact date and time. It was towards the tail end of their careers at that time for sure. In fact, they were giving some sort of farewell exhibition tour of some sort. They played a match against, oh I don't know, the Sadeg State gridiron team I think. I attended because it was my hometown college that I partially helped build, so I've always had a vested interest in their team. I never actually got to see the Elite Eleven, or whatever they were called back then, so I was mainly going to see if that hubbub was anything important.

"After the match, I went down to the locker room to congratulate them. They'd beaten State by one point on a last-second two point conversion. It was super exciting, and I think they deserved some praise. And as I said before, I was interested in getting to know them a bit. Ellzidan was certainly right in saying they used to be a larger group, it was probably a team of 30 or so guys. I can't imagine they were all such a tight-knit group of friends as the Eleven supposedly are now, but what do I know.

"Anyway, I met them all and shook their hands and gave a minute long speech about how they represent the Drawkian ideals of pushing oneself to their full potential, and having fun as a brotherhood, and all of that. I have one of those on standby at all times, mind you. After all that, most of them were packing up to leave. I heard that most of them were going out to have drinks with the Sadeg State team, and probably engage in debauchery afterwards, as one does. One of them approached me as the majority filed out of the locker room, I want to say it was Jaxon Madison. He asked me if I could stay with him and some others because they had some questions to ask me. I was very intrigued, but I had something to do right after. I opted to invite them to my home in Sadeg to have dinner with me and Meliauden. They immediately accepted, and I said farewell and got along on my business.

"In a few hours I had gotten home. The preparations were already in place, thankfully for my staff, so everything was good to go once they arrived. To my surprise, only eleven of them showed up - the eleven we know today. I had expected the whole team, so a little too much food had been made, but that was fine. We had a hearty meal, plenty of small talk and stories abound. It wasn't until after dessert when we were polishing off our drinks that one of them leaned forward and asked me for some difficult advice.

"This is what I had been waiting for. I was sure they didn't want to share stories with me all night, so this had to have been their true intent all along. It was then that they asked me if the path to true immortality was still achievable. Like you, they had heard all the myths and history behind the formation of this nation, and they wanted to know if it were still possible. Of course, based on how it was led up to, I knew this wasn't just some fascination. They wanted to achieve it themselves. I could feel that for certain.

"Of course I warned them of all the dangers and that they more than likely would never survive the journey, if they even managed to begin it at all. They were certainly not the first to ask me of the path to immortality, and they weren't the last. It saddened me to know that if they ever did embark on the path to the labrynth, they'd likely perish. Worse, some could survive, and have to live with the guilt of losing their friends for the rest of their many, many days. Perhaps I was oblivious to it, or maybe Ellzidan was simply imagining some underlying malice in their quest. Perhaps they pulled the silk over my eyes for that night and managed to get away with the information. I felt in my heart that they were good young men, though.

"Fortunately, as you could assume, they managed to succeed, one way or another. I'm not sure what Ellzidan could've meant by an illegitimate means of becoming immortal. I certainly don't know of any. Even if there is, these guys didn't use it. The next time I saw them, perhaps a generation or two later, in some pub I can't recall, they were all alive and well, and looked nearly the same as they did back when they had dinner with me. Not only that, but I could feel the bond between us.

"I can't explain this well because you have no point of reference for this feeling, but immortals from this source have a nearly palpable connection. You couldn't hide your immortality from another immortal - you'd stick out like a sore thumb as soon as you make eye contact. I made that same connection with the Eleven that night at the pub, and there was no doubt in my mind what they'd achieve. I'm not sure why Ellzidan would think that they're illegitimate when she would clearly be able to feel such a bond upon meeting them again. Unless she hadn't met them since they asked her how to become immortal all those years ago, in which case her suspicions make sense. As far as I know, though, the Elite Eleven are all well-meaning, if a little cocky. Certainly no evil undertones from my perspective."

Both Cam and Nicole were solidly confused at this point. They trusted Ellzidan's judgement and wouldn't expect her to lie to them, but what Iarocav said made sense as well.

"So what about the others? You said there were more than 30 at that point, and Ellzidan said that's around how many asked her. What happened to them?" Cam broke the short silence.

"I couldn't tell you," Iarocav shrugged. "I don't know about any of the others, I assume they either failed on the quest and perished, or assumed it'd be a wild goose chase and didn't waste their time. I find the latter much more probable. They likely succumbed to the march of time like anyone else. Perhaps you could ask the Eleven themselves though, if you got them drunk enough."

At that point, a DNSN staffer came in and announced that they were packing up and the media event was over. Everybody began shuffling out of the trailer and back out to the stadium lot.

"Well, it looks like our time is up! It was nice chatting with you two," said Iarocav with another warm smile.

"Yes, thanks so much," both girls said, and they left the trailer together. Now they had no clue what to think.

Reçueçn Cruising Through IAC, Tremblay on the Offensive?
The Reçueçn Times

Reçueçn, Reçueçn—The RNFT, now preparing for the quarterfinals in the Independents' Cup, has had the advantage of playing on fields its players know and being cheered by sold-out home crowds every step of them way. Perhaps home-field advantage, then, explains the high-level performance that the team has been seeing. Coming off an unexpected, deep World Cup run, the eighth IAC was to be yet another test for Reçueçn—had they gotten lucky, or could they continue to produce results?

The results have kept coming, so something must be going right for the team. In the group stage alone, the team faced Kavagrad, who they'd beaten one-nil for third place at the last edition of the tournament, and walked over them with three goals to nothing. Despite taking the first spot in the group as hosts, Abanhfleft, a second pot team, was still ranked higher than the Unicorns—but lost to them by a scoreline of two to one. (In a bizarre piece of trivia, this was the first two-one game the RNFT had ever played, win or lose. They followed it up with another three matchdays later. Reçueçn has yet to lose a game two-one.)

Not only has the national team defeated noteworthy opponents, they've done so with panache. Reçueçn's one-nil victory over Bliuji in the round of sixteen was the first time this tournament that the team has scored only a single goal. This is despite the fact that it is only one game shy of having score one or fewer goals in two-thirds of its all-time matches. In the group stage, Reçueçn scored thirteen goals in five games, an average of 2.6 goals per game. (Before the IAC Reçueçn's average was 1.12 goals per game.)

This is a lot of stats and numbers, but the point being made is very simple, and many fans have noticed it merely by watching the games, rather than carrying out any complicated analysis; Reçueçn is playing a much more attacking game.

One key indicator that this has been a change in coaching style on Tremblay's part is that we are seeing Harold Saunders start in the midfield much more often. The twenty-seven-year-old plays for Association Genève, and is usually considered an attacking midfielder. His teammate, Grégoire Leclair, had been starting for the RNFT previously in the same spot, but playing the role much more defensively. Seeing which of these two players starts the game for the Unicorns can serve as a litmus test to see if Tremblay is playing more offensively or defensively for a given match.

What has Mr. Tremblay said about all this? Not much. Despite wide press coverage of the RNFT throughout the tournament, and plenty of opportunities to discuss his strategy or vision with the fans, Tremblay has remained quiet on this issue. Perhaps this is out of a desire to keep opponents in the dark about what they may be facing when they step onto the field. But the defensive style has so long been a trademark of Reçuecian football—both as a decision by the national team's manager, and as a byproduct of the influence of the local sport—that we would expect some sort of sign if Tremblay were to take a step so major as to give that up.

We will see. Reçueçn's next match is in Reçueçn again, this time at Reçueçn FC's home stadium, against Sajnur, a team the Unicorns have not faced before. We will see what sort of tricks Tremblay pulls out of his bag this time.

One final match to play - the decider. For this Patríce returned as the team played their standard lineup. Lisander only had one change as they played Garmin instead of Heretier. With effect, the final round of matches were underway. Cavalariça started his game well with a shot on target as Potenza and Somerville looked to create trouble. Lisander did in fact start well and they would score the first goal. Somerville crossed it in in a corner situation with Camden running from the back and heading it in. The Nacional were in front. Gama tried to neutralise Potenza during the game with some effect but the spear that was the Lisander trio would be hard to keep quiet. Veiga however was taking better strides in attempting the attack. Fernando almost got one from one of his usual free kicks but nothing on the tally for the Selecção just yet. In the second half, it all changed. Nevais despite doing a decent game was subbed for Jota now making up an attacking 3-4-3 diamond with Fernando playing a bit further back. Although the tactic worked, no one would go so far to call it a resounding success. Still, a cross by Silveira gave all Veiga needed to score the equaliser and secure it all. They were through to the Round of Sixteen!... albeit not through regular channels as they qualified as the best third place. Lisander weren't crying though as they still qualified ahead of us in second along with the S.R.S. who won the group Around the grounds , in Group A hosts Reçueçn won the group with the Andromeda Archipelago staying runners-up, in what can only be said to be fair. In Group B, the Kick Corps qualified as usual with Aaaaaa keeping Terre Septentrionale. In the third group the Free Republics and Sajnur go through with Kelssek and Space in Group D. In Group E, contenders Omerica are joined by fellow lusophones HUElavia. From the third place playoffs, along with the Selecção qualify Barsland, Fujai and Bliuji. It is to note that New Lusitania qualified as top seed on a coin flip despite Barsland's superior goal scoring. Plane of Possibility are out by the same way although here both them and Bliuji had identical records.


ONWARDS TO FAMILIARITY

Omerica would be the next game for the Round of Sixteen of the Independents Associations Cup. No changes in the Lusitanian squad. For Omerica, the usual Valentin in goal, with Jet, de Felice, Kayode and Michelekakis as the back four Bianchi, Soares, Bolton and Palmeiro in the middle of the park with Palmeiro, Falkirk and Beckett up front. A game with high stakes which would simply mean in or out, nothing else. The match went underway in the Germanic quarter of the country. New Lusitania has scored every single one of their goals in the second half. However, a crack in the Omerican defence led Silveira to score the only goal of the match. It didn't mean the game was just a match, despite being hardly thought in midfield. Beckett put the ball in the back of the net on fifty five minutes but was declared controversially offside by the linesman. Nevais acted well as a sweeper in defensive midfield to keep must out but Falkirk still managed to get a crack at goal to hit the post and the bar on a truthfully unlucky day for the Omericans. The Selecção also had their fair share of chances though as Gama through a great curved shot that got saved by Valentin which despite everything was still doing a great match. All in all, the Lusitanians just about managed to pull through and now play the S.R.S. again in what might be revenge for a team in form. Bookies do not favour the Lusitanians but odds are on yet another level match.

At the National stadium, the hosts needed a single goal to beat Bliuji. Their opposition had a controversial time as there was a clear penalty that wasn't marked in the favour by the Plough Islands official. Many would've said that Drawkland would have most teams covered but Fujai proved a tough nut to crack as they took the Kick Corps to extra-time where they were defeated by 5-4 in what will be memorised as an instant classic. At Chapel-Field, despite a galaxy of chances the Andromeda Archipelago are now out after being defeated by big time contenders the Free Republics (3-2). "Aaaaaa" was the sound out of Genève as Sajnur beat them convincingly 2-6 whilst Kelssek struggled against Barsland only beating them after a further half hour (4-3 aet). The second Lusophone Derby of the tournament gave Lisander their curtain call as HUElavia progressed by 2-1 at Heldingen as The SRS now face New Lusitania again after their win to Space after a goalless regular period. Many do not favour New Lusitania as previously said but only time will tell in what will be a great match.

HUElavia forces Kelssek to "capitulate" en route into the Semi-Finals!

HUElavia came into the Quarter-Finals making a historical run, coming back from losing their first two matches in Group E towards winning 4 straight matches. HUElavia came into Stade de l’Alliance, in Genève as underdogs against Kelssek, with the bookies predicting a comfortable Kelssek victory. Alas, the match isn't guaranteed on paper, and HUElavians had faith in their team, as well as the confidence in the whole squad was evident as they went along the matches. HUElavia was playing for a historical moment for both the team and the country.

Kickoff started, and HUElavia started with Cristiano taking a deep shot that deflected off Goalkeeper Poirier into the corner, where Gallegos quickly took it, and met the head of Petit to make it 0-1, with the crowd jumping up to their feet and cheering to the point that the stadium started to rumble, all within the 1st minute (Goal went in at 0:58). The first half had many shots once again, with Rossi taking two instances of going one-on-one with Poirier, only to have the ball just narrowly miss the goal, and Gallegos having a low pass that met the boot of Del Horno, only to be blocked by Pokorny. Kelssek also had chances, with Langlier having a one-on-one chance versus Ricardo, only for the ball to be deflected by Ricardo's heel to go narrowly out for a corner. Another one right before the half-time whistle involved a blistering shot by Lapierre being blocked by Mendieta to head out for a throw-in. The half ended 0-1, and HUElavia felt confident that they could hold out.

The second-half kicked off and a few passes in by Kelssek, Halliger was dispossessed by Cristiano, which allowed him to take a low but powerful shot that slid past Poirier to make it 0-2. Fans had barely gotten into their seats and they were jumping once again, celebrating the goal, as Cristiano was mobbed by his teammates for the quick goal in the 47th minute. Kelssek began to play much more aggressively, with Lapierre, Langlier and Custworth blasting in shots left and right, which either Ricardo saved or deflected, or the shots went wide or hit the posts. As Kelssek let out their frustrations for well over 35 minutes, right as additional time was given, Gallegos managed to dispossess Demetriev and sent a long ball into the feet of Suzuki and went along with Rossi and Gonzalez against Liadon and Poirier. Suzuki passed to Gonzalez who faced off against Liadon, before passing to Rossi, who slid it past Poirier to make it 0-3 right at the end. Rossi was mobbed by the entire team, and the thousands of HUElavians were jumping, cheering and roaring, as the stadium once again was rumbling, singing right as the referee blew the whistle to end the match. HUElavia, in their 2nd ever appearance in the IAC had reached the Semi-Finals.

With their historic victory, along with the eliminations of Sanjur and New Lusitania and the Algarves, HUElavia is now the last Pot 2 team remaining in the tournament, which has been a long-shot at odds to have occurred. Los Amarillos now will face off against Squornshelan Remnant States in Siegstadion, Zimmerich, which HUElavia has already won at during Matchday 4 in the Group Stage. Not to mention, SRS had defeated New Lusitania and the Algarves in a 3-2 Penalty-Shootout after a 2-2 draw, meaning HUElavia will have fresher legs for this match. SRS are massive favorites to win the match and make the Final, but HUElavia have proven that they have changed from teams of previous incarnations and want to make plenty of noise in different football tournaments. All of HUElavia have faith that the team can upset SRS and make the Final, where they could possibly meet Host Nation Reçueçn or Drawkland in Reçueçn.

The Black-and-Reds seem determined to give their fans as many minutes of IAC football to watch as possible. After outlasting Space in a second round match that finished goalless after 90 minutes, and was clinched by Zoban Ajao's 113th-minute header, they have gone the distance again. Facing off against New Lustania and the Algarves for the second time this tournament, they put on a brilliantly entertaining match. With two goals apiece through full time, and several opportunities for more, there was entertainment for anyone watching the match, though the neutrals in attendance were likely much more at ease than the supporters of the teams on the field. In the end though, it was Demkjo Jzvanic who broke the deadlock, adding to his impressive tally of international goals with his first of the tournament.

Turning back time to the beginning of the match, there were a few questions on the Confederate side, as Donnell made a few changes to introduce fresh legs after the marathon second round match. Ajao, who played all 120 minutes against Space was on the bench with Verhulst taking his place at striker. Ruoho and Ulcviecel were also on the bench in favor of Naqvi and Delu, the latter for fatigue, and the former still nursing a slight knock picked up in extra time.

The first half was not quite the cagey affair it had been in the group stage, as both teams were already familiar with the other's strengths and weaknesses. It was the Seleção who pushed forward initially, trying to work down the right wing, where they felt perhaps that Naqvi and Vladcik were less disruptive in midfield than Rebljeten and Tambura. This proved a successful strategy, though it took an inch perfect cross to capitalize on the space available, and an equally good finish from Veiga to beat Munib at the near post.

Taking confidence from their second 1-0 lead against the Black-and-Reds in as many matches, New Lusitania continued to push forward perhaps overextending themselves a bit, and before they could reassume their defensive posture, a well-placed clearance/pass from Oleb launched a counter that nearly leveled the score. In the end, Vladcik's finish was wasteful, and Patríce was not even tested. With the Seleção settling back into a more defensive tactic after the scare at their end of the field, the Black-and-Reds began to establish an edge in possession, but were unable to make it count for the most part. Though they did create a fair number of shooting opportunities, most were from the outisde corners of the penalty area, with few high-danger chances. Just as it looked like the Black-and-Reds would enter the half trailing, however, Takala made the most of one of those long range chances, sending a free kick that dipped and curled around and over the wall, freezing Patríce for a crucial split second before beating him just under the bar.

Takala nearly doubled his tally just after the half. Having most definitely found the range, he sent another long shot on target which Patríce was forced to punch up over the bar. The ensuing corner, taken short by Tambura, pulled enough defenders to the right side of the field that Vladcik was able to get himself "lost" at the back post, but was again unable to finish his opportunity, playing a fairly tame volley that went straight into the keeper's midsection. Donnell had seen enough from him at that point, and made an interesting substitution, bringing Vladcik off for Damot. Naqvi shifted forward, while the captain lined up a bit to the left of Takala. One has to credit Damot as a team player, not insisting that the junior midfielder, who was in rare form, be the one to play out of his natural position. The shift seemed to pay off, as a few minutes later, Naqvi was able to draw two defenders far out to the corner flag, and found a way to play the ball back and inside to Damot, catching Cancela and Gama out of position. Keeping his head up and threatening a shot, Damot played a no-look cross, and Verhulst pounced for her first international goal.

With less than half an hour remaining, there was still time enough for an equalizer, but the Seleção would have to work quickly.
The Black-and-Reds seemed largely content to keep possession, probing carefully for paths forward while seeking to avoid turnovers, and so it was left to the underdogs to attack the ball and press the attack. They looked to have an excellent opportunity as Jota broke into the box on a good through ball from , but was denied by a last second tackle by Dalso. A roar of protest went up from half the crowd, but video review showed that Dalso had made solid ball contact, and the referee denied appeals for a penalty. As time wore to under ten minutes until stoppage time, New Lusitania were afforded another opportunity, as Tambura was shown a yellow card for grabbing a double handful of Mário's shirt a few feet outside the box. Veiga elected to go for goal on the free kick, and while Munib got a hand to the ball, it wasn't a strong enough punch to clear the area. After a few moments of frantic play, it was Gama who finally was able to get good contact on the ball, putting it into the bottom corner for the equalizer.

Heading into extra time, Donnell took a flagging Rebljeten off for Jzvanic, and also sent Ulcviecel on for Delu, indicating she had no intention of waiting around for penalties to settle things. Throwing two fresh-legged veterans into the right side of the attack proved devastatingly effective, and Jzvanic in particular was a terror, taking up a position at the center of the attack to distribute the ball and pull players out of position. He struck to put the Black-and-Reds ahead for good just after half time in extra time, making a hard run at the defensive line, and playing a quick one two with Verhulst that the tired legs on the Lusitanian back line simply weren't able to keep up with. Alone against Patríce, Jzvanic made no mistake, striking hard for the near corner, and wheeled away to the corner flag to celebrate with the fans. Immediately, Donnell used her final substitution to send Ystrad on for Verhulst, evidently with instructions to roam in front of the back line and throw himself into tackles. The aggressive center back picked up a yellow card for his efforts, but will be entirely satisfied with the result of his efforts to limit chances for a last gasp equalizer.

Looking forward to the semifinal, the Black-and-Reds will meet yet another Lusiphone nation: HUElavia, who are very much a team hitting their best form at the right time. They are winners of five straight matches, with the most recent being a dominating 3-0 victory over Kelssek. This is not a team to be cowed by playing a team higher up the rankings, and will be brimming with confidence. Expect them to be aggressive on the ball and energetic off it.

In other news, popular Confederate sports blogger Salwan Mynhier has reportedly been admitted to a psychiatric care facility near his native Vassilian after he voluntarily presented himself for treatment. This development follows a very unusual post from Mynhier, in which he accused the IAC organizers and Reçueçn's hosting committee of conspiring to give the host team as advantage in the knockout rounds. The post, which Mr. Mynhier has since deleted was in stark contrast to his usual insightful commentary, and made offensive comments about multiple nations participating in the tournament. This reporter certainly hopes that Mr. Mynhier can find the treatment he needs, and looks to see him returning to his blog soon.
