Mambo Munashe Ngonidzashe gives a speech to open the convention's proceedings

Munashe Ngonidzashe said that "nearly fifty-five years ago, my grandfather, Izibongo Ngonidzashe decided to establish the modern-day Rwizikuran monarchy. For all this time, my loyal subjects have lacked meaningful say and meaningful representation in the governance of our country, which has significantly hindered our nation's capacity for development, and has made our nation prey to the scourge of corruption."
"The decision made by the Baba waMambo on the twelfth of August to establish a constitutional convention, was, in a way, a start to addressing the problems that the Rwizikuran nation faces, and to ensure that my loyal subjects will be more involved in Rwizikuran politics," Munashe said. "And I am glad to be presiding over this body, to help oversee the development of a new constitution, which shall be given the task to avoid the Scylla of a Euclean-style government, and the Carybdis of absolutism which has greatly harmed our nation."
"This is where we will take a middle path," Munashe declared. "While this course may be perilous, we believe that by maintaining the monarch, and some of the traditional structures that have been put in place, it will guarantee continuity, while by adopting some elements of an Euclean-style governmental system, we can ensure that all Rwizikurans will have a greater say in the operations of our nation. If we can accomplish these two things, then we will have a solid foundation for the creation of a 21st century Rwizikuran monarchy: one where the corruption of past monarchs will be a thing of the past."
"We will make sure that this process will be completed, even if it means we have to sacrifice our holidays, so it can be done both fast, and right," Munashe concluded. "By God's will, we will have this constitution done by June, and then the Basic Law shall be repealed, and new national elections can be called."
Following the applause, Munashe Ngonidzashe said that "now, it is time to start offering your suggestions for how this document will come to be, for we all come from different walks of life: as chiefs, as landlords, as officials for intergovernmental organizations, as teachers, and as homemakers. Together, we can accomplish a better Rwizikuru."
