ANNOUNCEMENT BOARD
Hello and welcome : ). If you require OPs' attention, attach the number '42' to your post.

The year is 1869, and much is changed from what we know. In the West, smoke and steam dim the sun, as the fires of industrial revolution churn out ever greater quantities of goods and gears to satiate modern society. Though these machines of progress promise development and prosperity the likes of which the world has never seen, the reality of smog choked skies and soot stained faces has stirred the siren song of liberation within the hearts of the masses. Reactionary elements attempt to hold against this tide, but how long they will succeed only providence knows. The East, in our world the land of stubborn tradition and exotic mystery, is instead a reflection of the West, and though both maintain separate and unique identities, a universal calling drives the Great Powers of both horizons forward. The prospect of Empire.

As the engines of ambition continue to rumble in the rest of the world, intrepid explorers from both horizons now meet in the dark continent, and states both young and old look to exploit the riches of Africa. With the wheels of change ever turning, it now falls on you, great leader, to take charge. Will you guide your nation deftly through a web of intrigue and diplomacy? Will you build an industry that will be the workshop of the world? Or will you cover all in the shade of the banners of conquest? The choice is yours...

Tales of Two Horizons is an alternate history rp based on the premise of a divided China with states equivalent in advancement and industry to those of the West. A healthy dose of alternate history is given to the European nations as well. In Southern Europe, coalition forces led by Wladyslaw III inflicted a stunning defeat against the Ottomans at Varna. Following this, the Ottomans made peace, never to expand past Bulgaria. Hungary and Poland, though separated by the death of Wladyslaw after the battle, benefited greatly from this, with Hungary seizing the opportunity to expand into the Balkans while the Commonwealth eventually subjugated Muscovy and Siberia. The Ottomans continued a downward spiral in the mid 1800s, and were partitioned following intervention by the Great Powers in 1848-1850. Freed from the shackles of the Balkans, Austria has maintained its position as the leader of German politicking, and recently has conducted a series of “Ausgliech” negotiations to centralize much of the German Confederation under its rule. In Western Europe, England's counter-armada successfully landed in Spain, and following French intervention, Spain was forced to cede much of South America to the victors. The later United Kingdom faced revolutions in its North American colonies, but through skillful negotiations was able to maintain the loyalty of the New England region, which following the Treaty of Paris became the Kingdom of New England, a constituent of the United Kingdom.

Government Type: Federal Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: The government of the United Kingdom functions much the same as our world, however devolution has occurred in both New England and Ireland, ensuring the loyalty of both regions to the Crown.

Relations The United Kingdom enjoys a number of decent relations with nations in Europe. An alliance is maintained with the Hansa as well as several favorable trade treaties, while Victoria's eldest daughter is married to the Austrian Emperor. This has caused some tension, with various parties vying for Britain to try to negotiate favorable entry of the Hansa into the Confederation or preserve its independence. France has been maintained as a rival, and following the Second Rhine crisis the United Kingdom has generally withdrawn the idea that a detente is achievable with them. Ruthenia has also proven some concern, with their bolstering of their fleet seen as a challenge to a British fleet already pressured to contain the French.

In Asia, Britain maintains amiable relations with Joseon, having worked with them in the past for projects of naval developments. Government officials from both nations however have raised concern towards the potential private sail of naval assets to the Japanese. Yut is viewed with both apprehension and interest, with trade being lucrative, but fleet power rivaling the British being worrying.

In the New World, amiable relations are maintained with Fusang, and a general idea is had between the two nations that the Americas are off limits to the imperialist ambitions of other powers. Relations are tense with the American Commonwealth, mostly owing to their continued claims on New England in addition to the practice of slavery throughout the nation. Brazil is seen with mixed feelings, on one hand they are a fellow British Monarchy with some democratic practices, on the other Britain actively and regularily smuggles slaves out of Brazil to its holdings in Libertania, officially denying these actions.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people:The peoples of the United Kingdom are a very diverse group. Though hardship may be a reality for some, the mentality of the British remains optimistic, with hope that the next day will be better than the last. The peoples of the various colonial holdings are increasingly accepted by their brothers and sisters in the Atlantic territories, with the building belief that all subjects and holdings of the Kingdom are equal in their stature and importance to the Crown.
Religion:Various forms of Christianity are practiced through most of the empire, with Anglicanism being the state religion of the United Kingdom. Sunni Islam is the predominant faith if British Bengal, with Hinduism being followed in Madras and Buddhism making up the tail in Ceylon.
Ethnicity: Anglo-Saxon Protestant lovers of tea.
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Depends on Region, but in most cases this would be the Anglo-Saxon base. Other groups are more accepted in Britannia's other lands, especially New England, which has seen a large influx of Irish peoples caused by the food troubles in the Emerald Island. This being said, with the incorporation of New England and Ireland Britain also has seen a growing movement towards being a “pluricontinental nation”, and as such is more accepting of other cultures than it otherwise might be.
Other Cultures: Traditionally this would be the groups that aren't of the Anglo-Saxon Protestant varieties found in England. The population is expected to at the very least maintain a veneer of proper Britishness, though in recent years Britain has increasingly been accepting of other culture groups at their base. Ireland is a point of poltical contention, as New England, the Crown, and the heirs of Peel see the Irish as an integral part of the Empire and equal partners, while others still view the people of Erin as subjects of a backwards colonial land.

Military Info
Army:
The British Army is in a final state of flux, following various reforms that were responses to the lackluster performance in the 1848-1849 Anatolian War. Many archaic punishments have been abolished, and modern armaments have been distributed to the main armies deployed throughout the Empire. Colonial armies in Africa generally are a step behind the larger armies in Britain's more developed holdings. The Snider-Enfield is the primary service army of the British Army, though the New Englanders make heavy use of the Spencer Repeating Rifle in their ranks

130.000 Army of Great Britain
10.000 Army of Ireland
90.000 Army of New England
120.000 Army of Bengal
30.000 Army of South India
10.000 Army of South Africa

Navy:
The navy is the pride of the nation, arguably the largest and most powerful fleet in the world, with British Sea power being recognized from North America to India. There has however been a push to further this power, as many worry that should Britain find itself in simultaneous conflicts in the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, the navy would be hard-pressed to maintain its superiority.

3 Bluewater Ironclads (Warrior Class)
17 Broadside Ironclads
7 Central Battery Ironclads
4 Coastal Defense Ironclads
3 Brownwater Ironclads (Dragon Class)
17 Steam Ships of the Line
23 Steam Frigates
20 Steam Corvettes
26 Steam Sloops
59 Wooden Screw Gunboats

Various other smaller vessels, troop transports, survey and reserve ships.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy:The economy of the United Kingdom is one of the largest in the world, with textiles mass produced in Bengal to tea in Ceylon and manufactured goods in Britain and New England. Infrastructure is advanced, with railroads weaving through the lands of Britain, Ireland, and New England, and factories blackening the skies even in India.
Goals:
-Maintain the greater peace in Europe.
-Bolster New England against possibly American aggression.
-Expand and improve the navy to be able to fight a simultaneous war in two theaters.

History: Following the intervention of France against Iberia during what came to be known as the “Atlantic War” (Rl Anglo-Spanish wars), England and then Britain enjoyed the lucrative products of Brazil, while trade flourished with the New World and abroad. More entrepreneurial settlers soon found themselves flocking to Brazil to establish agricultural empires, profiting off of vast shipments of Sugar, Dyes, Tobacco, and other New World goods, while settlement in North America was most limited to New England. British merchants began to be in regular contact and competition with their counterparts in the far East, with a race to develop influence in the Indian subcontinent going on for decades against both Min and Iberia. The outcome of the Seven Years War saw Britain solidify its control over South India and gain further territories in the Caribbean as well as Africa. Britain lost the American Commonwealth to revolution in 1776, with loyalists fleeing North to join sympathetic elements in the dominion of New England. The Continental Compromise of 1784 saw New England gain representation in the Parliament

The Napoleonic Wars saw Britain fight admirably, notably participating in the naval engagement at Trafalgar, with the final triumph over the French Empire coming at Waterloo in 1815. Brazil gained its independence following the Napoleonic wars, but remained a friendly trading partner to Britain. New England, though it had enjoyed more local rule following the American Revolution to the far South, was granted further status and representation in late 1816, when it was incorporated as a partner in the United Kingdom, with a local parliament in addition to representation in London..

The revolutions of 1848 saw Britain quelling dissent at home, as well as seizing the initiative to claim strategic territories from the failing Ottoman State. These plans were complicated by the horror in Ireland, with New England and private parties (Including the Crown) providing food to the Irish in protest against parliament's cruel indifference to the famine. 1849 saw the conclusion of the Ottoman conflict, and following various promises and negotiations between British, New Englander, Irish, and Crown parties, Ireland was granted a home parliament in a similar manner to what the New Englanders already enjoyed.

The Second Rhine crisis saw Britain pushed away from France and towards the German Confederation, which has only been furthered by the marriage of Victoria II to Franz Joseph.

The future is uncertain, but Britain stands strong, and ready to do her best. Rule Britannia.

Generic Info
Nation Name: Empire of Great Joseon, 대조선제국, 大朝鮮帝國
Symbols: Imperial Flag, Imperial Seal
Location: 24
Population: 41 million
Capital City: Hanseong (Seoul)

Government Info
Government Type: Unitary Constitutional Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: The government of Joseon is a constitutional monarchy with a Confucian-based bureaucracy. The Emperor rules for life, unlike any of his appointees and all Emperors of Joseon descends from the Imperial House of Yi (Jeongju Yi Clan) since its foundation. The Emperor commands absolute loyalty from his officials and subjects, but officials are expected to try to guide the Emperor to the right path if the latter was mistaken and Emperors are usually sensitive to public opinions.

The bureaucratic element of the government is dominated by Confucian scholars who enter service in the government through the civil service exam. All officials are expected to have passed a series of literary and psychological tests that determine their ability to serve the empire. Theoretically, anyone, excluding women, can take the civil service exams but only the wealthy have the money to afford preparations for the exams. However, seeing a lowborn take and pass the exams are not uncommon and are often celebrated in stories.

The legislative branch of the Empire is the Grand Assembly, made up of representatives from the districts of each provinces. The eligibility to be an Assemblyman is to pass the civil service exam and be appointed by the provincial governors. Members of the Grand Assembly elect an individual, usually the leader of the majority party, to serve as Chancellor who holds certain executive powers, making him equal to the Emperor. There, the Chancellor creates the Imperial Cabinet to serve as the Emperor's advisory board and to carry out the laws passed by the Grand Assembly and the Emperor.
Ideology: Neoconfucianism, Silhak, Liberalism, Conservatism
Leader/s: Emperor Yi Yeong/Hyomyeongun, Chancellor Wang Jun-min
Relations Britain and Joseon has friendly ties due to communications between the two countries over shared projects of naval reforms. Moderate to friendly relations are also held between Joseon and the various Chinese states, including major and secondary powers such as Yue, Min, Chyan, etc. Joseon's relations with Japan is currently nonexistent to leaning unfriendly due to Japan's isolationist tendencies along with Joseon's capture of northern Hokkaido. Relations between Joseon and the Ruthenian Empire is largely done through commercial trade. Europe, the Middle East, and most of the Americas as a whole do not really interest the Joseon court due to their focus on East Asia although commercial and diplomatic relations are held between Joseon and Fusang.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: Ethnically Korean with most Manchus assimilated into the Korean culture. Ainus and other indigenous ethnic groups make up the majority in Hokkaido (Bukhaedo) and the Sahkalin (Hwatae) Island.
Religion: The country is largely irreligious with Neo-confucianism being the state ideology. However, Buddhism makes up the largest religion and still being influential in its own rights. Shamanism, Taoism, and Christianity (brought from European and Chinese missionaries) make up a very small minority in Joseon. Christianity, especially both Catholicism and Nestorianism, is a growing religion in Korea, attracting liberals and early civil rights advocates.
Ethnicity: The majority ethnic group of Joseon is the Joseon people themselves with the major minority ethnic group being the Ainus and the Manchus. The smaller minority groups include the Japanese and the Chinese, most of whom being migrants or absorbed by the Koreans during Korea's expansion.
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Joseon Korean and Outer Manchurian
Other Cultures: Ainu, various indigenous groups of the Sakhalin Island, and the Japanese.

Military Info
Army: The aftermath of the Mongol invasion of Goryeo and the various Joseon-Manchu wars that ended in the early 1600s (along with occasional pirate attacks from between the time period) saw Joseon placing more emphasis on the military than ever before. At peacetime, the Joseon standing army is large at over 200,000 active soldiers (with the ability to call up more in wartime), the brunt of the army are focused on the western border. Much of the Joseon infantry are equipped with breech-loading rifles with the cavalries preferring revolvers and carbines for ranged combats. The Joseon military also enjoys the backing of powerful artillery and rocketry made to decimate enemy lines.

Militias known as the Righteous Army have appeared several times throughout the history of Joseon when the national armies were in need of assistance against foreign invaders since the Khitan invasion of Goryeo. Peasants, scholars, former government officials, religious monks of Taoist, Buddhist, and Christian faiths made up such militias. While most of these righteous armies are equipped with hunting equipment and farming tools rather than state-of-the-art weapons employed by the Imperial Army, the irregular militias make up for their equipment shortcomings with patriotic fervor and knowledge of home terrain.
Navy: Cooperation with Yue and close ties with Britain has transformed the Joseon Navy from a glorified merchant privateer force to a modern naval machine, especially with the development of steam powered ironclad warships called the Dragon Ships. Although the Joseon Navy is smaller than that of the navies of Yue, Min, and Great Britain; the fleet of Joseon is more than capable of dishing out impressive firepower.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: The economy of Joseon has been diversified thanks to more liberal elements of Confucian scholars and the growing merchant class embracing various economic reforms in favor of trade, free market capitalism, banking, etc. Manchuria and the northern half of the Korean peninsula are industrial center of Joseon while the southern half of the peninsula, the Hwatae Island, and Bukhaedo are places of agriculture and international trade.
Goals: Increase relations and cooperation among allies against radical ideals
History: The early 10th century was a period of unrest in the Korean peninsula. Silla, the kingdom that unified most of the Korean peninsula, was heavily weakened and lost control over local lords during the end of the 9th century and rebellions broke out with the peninsula experiencing civil war between Hugoguryeo/Taebong, Silla, an Hubaekje. Goryeo was formed when Taebong general Wang Geun lead a coup de'tat against King Gung Ye of Taebong and formed the nation of Goryeo (once again claiming to be the successor to the old Goguryo that ruled over much of Manchuria and Korea). The nation of Goryeo eventually unified much of the Korean peninsula in 936 AD and put an end to the Later Three Kingdoms.

One year after unification, Goryeo's northern neighbor, Balhae, fell into the Khitans and the last crown prince of Balhae (along with a few thousand refugees) fled to Goryeo who was welcomed by the Goryeo ruling family. Goryeo lived in relative peace with the Goryeo government adopting reforms and centralization. That all changed in 993 AD when the Khitan Liao Dynasty invaded Goryeo. The war ended in a stalement and Goryeo reluctantly agreed to become a tributary state of the Liao Dynasty. However, the Goryeo court secretly resisted the Khitans and worked with the Songs in an attempt to limit the Khitans in a series of wars between Goryeo and the Khitans in 1009, 1015, 1016, 1017, and 1018 when the Khitans signed a peace treaty with Goryeo after losing much of its invasion force in the Battle of Kwiju

In lieu of the conflicts between Liao and Goryeo, the Jurchens took advantage of the weakened Khitans and took over much of its territories in Manchuria, declaring the Jin Dynasty in Manchuria. Initially, Goryeo made little efforts to limit the Jurchens until border conflicts risen between Goryeo and the Jurchens. In response, the Goryeo military launched a coup de'tat against the scholar-class dominated Goryeo court and declared a military regime to fight the Jurchens. Like with the Khitans, Goryeo aligned with Song China in opposing the Jurchens, sending Jin into a two front war in which the Jurchens only held territories in Manchuria.

The Mongols invasion of China in 1206 had initial effect on Goryeo when fleeing soldiers of the Jin Dynasty invaded Goryeo multiple times in 1216 during the reign of King Gojong. Goryeo initially seeked an alliance with the Mongols to put an end to Jin stragglers once and for all. Relations broke down between the Mongols and Goryeo when the Mongols demand tribute and the death of the Mongol envoy was found in Goryeo territory (the Mongols charged that it was a government sanctioned murder while the Goryeo court denied any responsibility, blaming deserted Jin soldiers still at large after the Mongol invasion of Jin. The Mongols invaded Goryeo in 1231 and the two countries fought for over forty years. Despite the best efforts of various military dictators from the Ubong Choe Clan and their successors and King Gojong, Goryeo eventually capitulated as a vassal kingdom and an ally of the Mongols in 1270. Although Yuan darughachis in Goryeo were offered provisions and sometimes get involved in the affairs of the Goryeo court, Goryeo was able to keep its autonomy. Mongol and Goryeo rulers, however, were tied by marriages as some Mongol prince and aristocrats married Goryeo princesses and vice versa and Goryeo kings were no longer assigned temple names after their passing.

In response to the fall of the Yuans in 1318, Goryeo fortified its borders in fear of chaos stemming from the west. King Gongmin in 1351 launched a campaign of Northern expansion and reclaimed Dongnyeon and Ssangseong from the weakened Mongol holdouts. Poverty, corruption charges, and raids from Wokou pirates plagued Goryeo since the fall of the Yuan Dynasty and Goryeo eventually fell into a coup by the Jeongju Yi Clan, deposing King Gonyang as the last King of Goryeo and executed Goryeo loyalist officials and scholars such as Yi Saek and Jeong Mong-ju. With little opposition, Goryeo general Yi Seong-gye declared an end to Goryeo and the formation of the Joseon Empire as a powerful country not bounded to some imperial dynasty in the west.

The reign of Taejo Seong-gye saw conflict between his sons over succession rights and after an attempt by military officials and his fifth-born son Yi Bang-won in a military coup, declared his second born son Yi Bang-gwa (temple name Jeongjong) as his successor and abdicated the throne in 1398. Jeongjong was an abled ruler but abdicated after two years of seeing bloodshed between his brothers Crown Prince Yi Bang-won and Yi Bang-gan. Yi Bang-won (Taejong) became emperor right after, setting forth changes made to ensure that Joseon would be an absolute monarchy instead of a constitutional monarchy planned by his predecessors. Taejong's rise to power was a bloody affair but he proved to be a just and abled ruler, building up national defense and encouraging reforms that improved on the daily lives of the people and limited privileges of the aristocracy. Taejong was succeeded by his thirdborn son Yi Do (immortalized as Sejong the Great) as the fourth Emperor of Joseon. Sejong's reign was marked by various reforms pushed by Sejong that benefited Joseon. Sejong opened government positions to people of various social classes; encouraged innovation in the fields of science, technology, military, and agriculture; and pushed for the use of the hangul writing system to improve literacy. Sejong was also an interventionist, having sent troops to Tsushima Island to quell the pirate activities and ultimately ended with the island sending tributes to the Korean peninsula. In response to the emboldened border attacks by the Jurchens, Sejong initiated campaigns to pacify the north. Originally, the intent was to build castles across the Amnok River and to encourage settlement into the north, However, Jurchen raids lead to more campaigns into Manchuria under his successors, capturing the Liaodong Peninsula in 1486 under the reign of Seongjong and pushed up to the Amur River in 1563 during the reign of Seonjo. The capture of the Amur River was considered a watershed in Joseon history as it was hailed by court officials as the second restoration of Goguryeo, an earlier dynasty of Joseon.

While Seonjo's court expected lasting peace after the pacification of Manchuria, peace was not meant to last when a unified Japan under Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea in 1592. The surprised Koreans, expecting external threats in the north, were overwhelmed by the initial Japanese onslaught and cities were quickly captured by the Japanese, despite heavy resistance by dedicated generals. The Royal Court was forced to flee from Hanseong days before Japanese forces enter the city when all forces leading to Hanseong were crushed or fled. However, naval actions by famed admiral Yi Sun-sin and resistance from local militias had weakened Japanese holdings and the Joseon Army was able to strengthen their defenses and was back on the counteroffensive. The war ended after seven long years and although the Japanese were expelled from Korea, leading to instability in Japan with the civil war between pro-Toyotomi and pro-Tokugawa forces, the country of Korea was ravaged. Taking advantage of the war that ravaged the country, skirmishes continued on between resisting Manchu tribes and Joseon occupiers and a rebellion broke out in 1598 during the reign of Seonjo when Jurchen leader Nurhaci attempted to form a Manchu identity. The rebellion was put down with the imprisonment of Nurhaci. Manchus were encouraged to assimilate to Joseon culture and some Manchus risen up as administrators and government officials in the Joseon court, including Nurhaci's descendents who became valued civil and military officials.

With Joseon controlling most of Manchuria, the government begins to shift its focus towards domestic policies with successive Kings up to Gyeongjo being marked for their long reigns of peace and prosperity (although political struggles were still very common during the reign of Gyeongjo). Joseon re-engaged in international trade with the Chinese states like Yue. The Koreans also engaged in colonialism, first taking control of the Sakhalin Islands and establishing fortresses in Canada for access to the lucrative fur trade. However, their colonial ventures in the New World were soon lost to the Wu Empire (which in North America, became part of Vusaan), there is still a major Korean minority presence in Northern Fusang. Closer ties were established between Joseon and the Chinese states, with the introduction of Catholicism and Nestorianism from European and Chinese missionaries entered Korea. The third expansion of Chyan in the late 18th century alarmed the Joseon government. Subsequent efforts by King Yeongjo, Jeongjo, and Sunjo to remilitarize the military and to strengthen the northwestern border took place and Sunjo's successor, Hyomyeongun, inherited a tenseful royal court. Overtime, the tensions had lessened and Joseon treats Chyan as just another neighbor, normalizing relations between the two countries. Recently, the Korean government sent a fleet to force Japan into opening its ports to foreign trade, invading and occupying Northern Hokkaido in the process.

Government Info
Government Type: Constitutional Confederation (de jure), Semi-Constitutional Quasi-Federal Semi-Presidential Confederation (de facto)
Brief Explanation of Government:
The German Confederation is, as the name might imply, a union of 30 German and German-influenced states, created to replace the entity with the same name that existed before it. It came into existence through the Confederal Constitution of 1854, popularly known as the German Compromise (Deutscher Ausgleich), which was ratified by the representatives of the member states in an extraordinary session of the Federal Convention of the Old Confederation, as its last legislative act.
The member states of the German Confederations are fully sovereign and equal nations, willingly united in a perpetual confederation. The member states retain a near-complete autonomy in terms of their own internal affairs, but delegate their authority in terms of defense, foreign affairs, and common economic planning to the Confederal authorities, which are officially organised in different institutions under the principle of the separation of powers that was adopted in 1848.
The legislative power in the German Confederation belongs to the Federal Assembly (Bundesversammlung), a unicameral parliament formed by delegates which are elected by the people of the Confederation once every five years. As a symbol of German unity, the delegates are freely elected throughout the member states of the Confederations, regardless of their origin, which means that a citizen with the right to vote (which is restricted to those citizens who can pay at least ten Vereinsthaler), can choose any delegate from any member state, even though in practice, will still vote for the candidates in their own states. The Federal Assembly meets in the newly constructed Palace of Unity (Palast der Einheit) in Frankfurt am Main, and has broad legislative powers in the so called "Common Legislative Fields".
The legislative proposals adopted by the Federal Assembly must however be approved by the Federal Convention (Bundeskonvention), which is a central institution formed by delegates from all of the member states of the Confederation, and it meets in the old Palais Thurn und Taxis in Frankfurt am Main. From most points of view, the Bundeskonvention is actually the direct successor of the pre-Compromise Federal Assembly, as it is a permanent congress of envoys that are not elected, being instead selected by the rulers of the member states. The Federal Convention is presided over by a special delegate, most often Austrian, who carries the title of Representative of the Convention (Vertreter des Konventions), and is divided into two bodies. The Inner Council (Engerer Rat), has as its members one envoy from each member state, and it determines the agenda of the Plenary Session (Plenum), which is formed by multiple envoys from each member state, roughly organized by the size of the member states. Since it has a legislative role - in confirming the decisions of the Federal Assembly, the Federal Convention has often been considered to be the upper chamber in a practical bicameral Confederal Parliament, but this is somewhat diluted by its secondary role.
The executive power in the Confederation is represented by the office of the Presidency of the German Confederation (Präsidium des Deutsches Bundes), which is led by the Emperor of Austria from his position as Head of the Presidency (Vorsitzer des Präsidiums). The Head of the Presidency has in theory an unlimited executive power, and the right to veto any proposals adopted by the Federal Assembly and the Federal Convention and the right to dissolve the two institutions, but it should be noted that the first and current Head of the Presidency, Franz Joseph I von Habsburg, has never used these powers. Instead, the Head of the Presidency delegates his executive powers to the Conference of the Presidency, which acts like a Confederal Government. The Conference of the Presidency is formed by several Common Ministries, the Common Ministry of Defense, the Common Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Common Ministry of Integrated Economy, and is led by a symbolic head known as the Representative of the Conference of the Presidency of the German Confederation. All the members of the Conference of the Presidency are appointed by the Head of the Presidency from among the members of the Federal Convention, and must be approved by both the Federal Convention and the Federal Assembly - but in extraordinary situations, the Head of the Presidency can veto the combined decisions of the two institutions and force through a Conference of the Presidency.

Relations
 • France - Hostile relations, territorial disputes over the Rhineland and Alsace-Lorraine
 • Great Britain - Friendly relations. Emperor Franz Josef is married to Victoria, Princess Royal, one of the daughters of Queen Victoria, and from a German perspective, the United Kingdom is a natural ally - it is led by a royal house with German origins, there are no sort of disputes between the two states, and the two nations should be united in being wary of France, united by a fear of what has happened in the Napoleonic Wars. The German Confederation also looks up to the United Kingdom due to how well integrated its constituent kingdoms are, and the Germans admire the Royal Navy, trying to look at it for inspiration in their slow attempts to develop the Bundeskriegsmarine. The one issue in their relation is the continued British protection of the Hanseatic League, which should, in the eyes of most Germans, be convinced to rejoin the Confederation. Regardless, Germany will attempt to pursue closer relations with the British.
 • Ruthenia - Complicated. Overall the relations are friendly - Ruthenia and the Confederation have no territorial disputes, and no history of wars and animosity, and at the same time, conservative elements in Germany look up to Ruthenia as a powerful friend and a symbol of successful centralization - with Franz Josef himself being a close friend of the Ruthenian monarch. At the same time however, it would seem that Ruthenia does not view a fully unified Germany as something that should happen, and it was Ruthenian interference that allowed Brandenburg and Pomerania to remain independent, so German diplomatic efforts for the past few decades have been focused on trying to convince Ruthenia that a unified Germany would be a valuable ally and friend.
 • Hungary - Extremely friendly. The two nations do not have any disputes of any kind, and Austria and the Confederation sent help to the Hungarian monarchy during the 1848 Revolutions. The two nations are brought together by several treaties, and Franz Josef and the Hungarian monarch are close friends.
 • Italy - Extremely complicated, and very dependent on the Italian history
 • Denmark-Norway - Hostile. The German Confederation disputes the annexation of Holstein, and considers the Duchy of Holstein to be a part of the Confederation, temporarily occupied by a foreign power - Holstein even receives symbolic seats in the Federal Assembly and the Federal Convention.
 • Brandeburg - Hostile towards the leadership which has forced a historical German province to remain outside of its fatherland, but the Confederation sees Brandenburg as a whole as a lost nation that will, one day, rejoin the Confederation. The Confederal Government is also incredibly friendly to those elements of Brandenburg's population which are hostile to King Frederick III over their personal union with Belgium, and the Confederation entertains the idea that through the personal union, Brandenburg is dominated and occupied by Belgium. At the same time however, the Confederation will not risk open aggression, and Brandenburg continues to be a member of the Zollverein.
 • Pomerania - Similar to Brandenburg. The Confederation has a cold relation with the leadership of the country, which it blames for Pomerania's refusal to remain in the Confederation, but friendly towards the people, in attempts to strengthen German nationalism and unionism. At the same time, the Confederation will not risk open aggression, and Pomerania is part of the Zollverein.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The Germans (Deutsche) are a Germanic people in Central Europe, united by a common history, language, and culture. For centuries, the Germans were divided into countless duchies, principalities, and kingdoms, a cursed effect of their history and of the collapse of the authority of the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, the ancestral state of what so many think of now as Germany. However, despite being divided for so long, the Germans have retained a sense of their national identity, which has really started to develop over the past century and a half with the rise of German nationalism. German nationalism has led to an increased erosion of the regional identity of the many German groups, and to the development and acceptance of the concept of a united German nation-state, beyond regional dialects and confessional differences. The idea of a united German identity has gained near complete adoption in most German states, and after being proclaimed in the bloody ideas of 1848, this united German identity is accepted by most of the citizens of the German Confederation, under the concept of "German first" (Deutsch zuerst), which recognises the regional differences in terms of culture and dialects and religion, but claims that one's allegiance to the German people is more important.
Several non-German minorities continue however to exist into the Confederation, and the largest among them is represented by the Czech people (Češi/Tscechen), who are more commonly known as Bohemians. Despite some underlying tensions, the Czechs enjoy a significant autonomy, and the Confederation, while acknowledging their identity, has been attempting to push for the idea of the Bohemian identity - recognising how Germans and Czechs have lived together for so long and influenced each other, and claiming that the fate of the brother peoples of the Germans and the Bohemians lies together.
A similar but much smaller case exists with the Slovenes (Slovenci/Slowenen), a small Slavic minority in the Duchy of Carniola. Even from before the Ausgleich, the Slovenes have generally been incredibly loyal to Vienna, as the Habsburgs have been able to successfully promote the concept of loyalty to their monarchy, the so called Kaisertreue (loyalty to the emperor). While the Slovenes still have to find their place inside this new German state, they are being granted a certain autonomy, and the Confederal authorities try to push the good relations between the Austrians and the Slovenes as a symbol of German-Slovene brotherhood and unity.
Religion: Roman-Catholicism has a slight majority, followed by Lutheranism, Calvinism and other Protestant denominations. Judaism is followed by a small but significant minority.
Ethnicity: German
Main/Accepted Culture(s): German cultures, Bohemian, Slovenian
Other Cultures: Sorbian, French, Italian

Military Info
Army: The German Confederal Army (Deutsches Bundesheer), is the ground force and main military force of the German Confederation. The Confederal Army was formed after the Ausgleich, when general command of all armed forces of the member states was given to the Austrian Empire. Ever since, the German Confederation has embarked on an ambitious project of military reform, unification, and development, in order to counter the ever-present threat of France and any others who would try to fight against German unity.
The Confederal Army is led in times of peace by the Common Ministry of War, and in times of war, by the Common High Command(Gemeinsames Oberkommando), which by itself is divided into two sections, one of them being the Common High Command of the Army (Gemeinsames Oberkommando des Heeres).

The Ministry and the High Command are united by the Common General Staff (Gemeinsamer Generalstab). Much like the military, in times of peace, the General Staff is subordinated to the Ministry of War, and in times of war, to the Common High Command, but it retains a significant autonomy, which was enshrined in the conventions of the Ausgleich. The General Staff exists and works at all times and acts as the mind behind the Confederal Army, continuously preparing for war. As part of the great reforms of the Confederal Army, the General Staff promotes and chooses its officers through a meritocratic system, and is crucial in the Confederation's attempts to train its new generation of united officers. Most of these officers are trained in the reformed Theresian Military Academy/Theresianische Militärakademie.

The core of the army is formed by the Common Armed Power (Gemeinsame Bewaffnete Macht), the centralised military system of the Confederation. The first force that is a part of it is the Army of the Realm (Reichsheer), the regular army, conscripted from the lands of the Habsburgs Crown, from the Kingdom of Bohemia and from the territories of those member states who are too small to maintain standing forces of their own. The Reichsheer is in practice, the direct continuation of the old Habsburg Imperial Common Army, but has been reorganised in order to stand a a symbol of the united German power. Through several of the conventions of the Ausgleich, a certain part of the member states of the Confederation have refused to maintain standing armies of their own, and instead, are integrated directly into the mechanism of the Reichsheer.

Well organized, and well trained, the Reichsheer uses a system of conscription that exempts the nobility and very rich citizens. Upon coming of age, each eligible male citizen that does not qualify to be exempted from military service is conscripted and has to serve two years in the Reichsheer. The Reichsheer tries to foster a sense of unity between the various lands of the Confederation, and as such, recruits are generally trained and serve in different regions from where they originate. The use of their regional dialects is frowned upon, and High German is used as the standard language of the military. At the same time, officers are promoted and assigned so as not to show favouritism to any single group. While in the Reichsheer, the soldiers benefit from the best training, and the best equipment - all forces of the Reichsheer are armed with the M1854 Werndl–Holub single-shot breechloading rifle.

The best soldiers are usually retained in the main army where they serve as professional soldiers even in peace time, while the others are moved for two more years in the Realm Defense (Reichswehr). The Reichswehr mainly acts as a unified Landswehr, a territorial army, tasked in time of war to support the Reichsheer and to defend the homeland; in peacetime, and by exception, also to maintain law and order and security of the homeland. Service in the Reichswehr generally lasts from age 21 up to 32 - two years of active service, after which the soldier is moved into the reserve, but is regularly recalled back into the force for periods of time.

The final part of the army is comprised of the militia force. If absolutely necessary, the Confederation will call upon the Reichssturm, a reserve force formed of men aged 34 to 55, organized into multiple corps of Landssturm. It is intended to provide replacements for the front line units and a militia for local defense. From among them, the best units are those of the Border Guards, the so called Grenz infantry (Grenzers), specially recruited in the border areas of the Confederation with the purpose of defending them until the main forces arrive at the front. They are different from the regular militia in that they are called once a year for special training in their specific regions, and are generally armed as well as possible, trying to continue the legacy of their predecessors. In times of war, they have to take advantage of their better knowledge of the terrain and surroundings to delay the enemy, and will often man the defenses and forts.

In times of peace, the armies of several German states remain distinct. As the conventions of the Ausgleich stipulate, the Common institutions still have control over training, doctrine, and equipment, but these military forces remain distinct in identity, and in times of peace, distinct in direct control, as they remain under the authority of their member states. Examples of such military forces are the Royal Armies of Saxony and Württemberg. These armies generally follow the exact conscription systems of the Common Armed Power (Army>Landwehr>Landsturm), but maintain their own distinct corps. In times of war however, these distinct armies are integrated into the Common Armed Power and under the command of the Common High Command.

Common Armed Power:
Reichsheer:400,000
Reichswehr:252,000
National Armies:100,000
Total: 752,000

Navy: The German Confederal Fleet of War (Deutsches Bundeskriegsmarine) is ironically enough, despite being underfunded and underdeveloped, a lot more centralised than the Bundesheer. The member states of the Confederation do not maintain their own naval forces, and instead, everything is centralised into the Common Ministry of War during peace time, and the Common High Command in times of war, through its second section - the Common High Command of the Navy (Gemeinsames Oberkommando der Marine).
The Bundeskriegsmarine is divided into two forces. The High Seas Fleet (Hochseeflotte) is in theory the most important of them, but has suffered from the ignorance of the Ministry of War in terms of naval issues. The Hochseeflotte is divided into a stronger Mediterranean Fleet (Mittelmeerflotte), based in Triest and formed from the core of the former Imperial Austrian Navy, and the Northern Fleet (Nordflotte), based in Bremerhaven and created in 1855. The second part of the Bundeskriegsmarine is the River Fleet (Flussflotte), a force built from smaller ships that navigate on rivers. The strongest forces of the Flussflotte are the Danube Fleet (Donauflotte), and the Rhine Fleet (Rheinflotte).

Brief Description of your Economy: The German Confederation is a rising economic power in Europe. Although it used to lag behind the other major powers, the economic development measures of the Confederation have led to visible changes over the past few decades. Good resources, a highly skilled labor force, an integrated economical development plan, the Zollverein, and many other factors have led to the Confederations quick and sure rise to a position where it can become a world leader. The German agriculture was reorganized several times and is highly productive, while the well developed and modernized German industry is centered in industrial areas such as the Ruhr, Silesia, and Bohemia. Trade and economic development are facilitated by the German Customs Union, the Zollverein, and by the well-developed infrastructure, including a strong system of railways and of canals.
Goals:
 • Strengthen and centralize the Confederation
 • Finish the German Unification
 • Maintain and improve the Confederation's Great Power status
 • Avoid the beginning of any new wars
 • Weaken France and liberate the province of Elsaß-Lothringen
 • Maintain peaceful relations with Ruthenia
 • Strengthen the good relations between the Confederation, Hungary, Iberia, and Britain
 • Develop a moderately competent navy
History:
Normal early Austrian history. Established as the Marchia orientalis (March of the East) or Margraviate of Austria in 976, ruled by the House of Babenberg. The march was then elevated to the rank of a duchy. After the extinction of the House of Babenberg and a brief interregnum, Austria came under the rule of the German king Rudolf I of Habsburg. In the 15th and early 16th centuries, the Habsburgs expanded their territories through marriage and diplomacy, taking control over Spain, the Netherlands, and parts of Italy. This brought the Habsburgs into conflict with Bourbon France, and the conflicts between them were important in shaping the history of Western and Central Europe. The Edict of Worms then divided the dynasty, as Charles V gave the hereditary Austrian lands to his brother, Ferdinand I. A central administration was properly created in Austria for the first time, and this is where the modern Austria was born. Ferdinand I probably never inherited Hungary, with it never being crushed by the Ottomans, but he still inherited Bohemia, which became a core part of the Habsburg Monarchy. Even without inheriting Hungary, Austria probably took part in the various anti-Ottoman wars by supporting Hungary and other Christian states in their struggle.
The Reformation started to spread in the 16th century, and thepolicy of recatholicisation or Catholic Renewal (Rekatholisierung) of the Habsburg Holy Roman Emperors was a major factor which led to the beginning of the Thirty Years War, which eventually ended with a defeat for the Habsburgs, pressured by the the anti-Habsburg coalition. This reduced their authority to the Austrian and Bohemian lands directly under their control, weakening the position of the Holy Roman Emperor.

The extinction of the Iberian line of the Habsburgs led to the War of Iberian Succession, through which Austria gained control of the Spanish Netherlands and of Lombardy, limiting the influence of France. 1713 was marked by the Pragmatic Sanction, an attempt to solidify the hereditary Habsburg control over those territories, and to ensure the legitimacy of Maria Theresa's succession to the throne. But when she finally ascended to the throne, Austria was perceived as being weakened, leading to the War of Austrian succession. The Austrians were defeated in Silesia by the Saxons, and Charles Albert, Prince-Elector of Bavaria, marched his armies into Bohemia. Maria Theresa and her husband Francis contested these claims, and in the ensuing conflict, the Austrian forces tried to recover both Bohemia and Silesia. While they failed there and in Central Germany, allowing the forces of Charles Albert to take Frankfurt and to be crowned as the Holy Roman Emperor, they managed to conquer Bavaria, finally accomplishing an old Habsburg dream. A new military push resulted in the Austrians managing to push the enemy forces from Central Germany, and Charles Albert was forced to return to Bohemia, where he died, being succeeded by his son Maximilian, but not before the Austrians were able to recover Silesia. Victory seemed to be near..

Maximilian's attempts to take Frankfurt and to be crowned Holy Roman Emperor failed, as the other electors bestowed that title on Francis of Lorraine. Silesia was however lost to the Bohemian forces, and all Austrian attempts to recover the region of Bohemia were in vain. The Treaty of Aix-la-Chappelle was finally signed in 1748. Austria gained Bavaria, which was incorporated into the Habsburg Monarchy, but it lost Silesia and Bohemia. The next period marked a series of massive military reforms in Austria, and the death of Maximilian without an heir in 1777 triggered the War of the Bohemian Succession, with Joseph II proclaiming his claim to the Bohemian throne, facing the closest living relative of Maximilian, Charles Theodore, who was supported by the Saxons. The first part of the war was fairly indecisive, before the Austrians finally started to gain the upper hand. The Austrian diplomacy managed to attract the Commonwealth, and the threat of its entrance on the Austrian side was enough to bring the war to an end. Through the Treaty of Prague, Charles Theodore became the King of Bohemia, but his heir was going to be chosen by Joseph, who obviously chose himself as the heir. His death however brought Leopold II to the throne. While Leopold desired the Bohemian throne, he was a lot more willing to back down in front of foreign opposition, and as such, he chose his second son, Ferdinand, as the heir of the Bohemian royal title. Bohemia was brought under Austrian influence, and everything seemed to be alright.

But the French Revolution brought Austria into a direct conflict with the young French Republic. Under Francis II, Austria lost the War of the First Coalition, and the War of the Second Coalition, losing many territories, and with Austrian defeats in the War of the Third Coalition, the very survival of the Habsburg Monarchy seemed to be at stake. With Napoleon's reorganization of the Holy Roman Empire, Austria lost Bohemia and the Holy Roman imperial title. Francis II proclaimed the creation of the Austrian Empire in August 1804, with the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation finally ceasing to exist in 1805. Austria then took part in the War of the Fifth Coalition in 1809, which ended in another defeat, but the disaster of Napoleon's expedition against the Commonwealth sparked the creation of the Sixth Coalition, which finally brought down the French Emperor. Despite the 100 Days, the victory of the Coalition was confirmed at Waterloo. The Congress of Vienna marked the beginning of the Concert of Europe, the creation of the German Confederation, and much more. But all the efforts of Metternich, the Holy Alliance, the strengthening of the Austrian military, failed in the face of the wave of revolutions that drowned Europe in 1848.

 • 1848 Revolutions - exact events to be determined, but the status-quo was reestablished in the Confederation. The Austrian Army helped suppress the revolution in several other German states, including Bohemia - where the child-king ruling at the time accepted the Habsburg influence, marrying a Habsburg princess.
 • 1854 - Second Rhine Crisis. A diplomatic conflict between the Second French Empire and the German Confederation. It nearly led to the beginning of a war. Agitated by French claims against them, the German states in the west called for a reorganization of the Confederation, which Austria supported. As war seemed to be certain, hastily-organized negotiations in Frankfurt am Main led to most of the former German Confederation accepting the terms dictated by Austria, leading to the Compromise/Ausgleich - in order to strengthen Germany against what seemed to be an imminent French attach under the only nation which could lead them. The diplomatic intervention of the other Great Powers and the threat represented by them led to the crisis being defused with only a few border skirmishes, but an important step towards German unification had been achieved. The German states which refused to ratify the Ausgleich managed to remain independent in face of Austrian pressure to formal or informal guarantees from other powers, Ruthenia in the case of Pomerania and Brandenburg, and the United Kingdom in the case of the Hanseatic League. The Duchy of Holstein is an exception, as it was directly annexed by Denmark-Norway right during the Ausgleich negotiations, a situation disputed by the Germans, which call the annexation illegal and continue to claim Holstein.
 • 1854-1869 - Reorganization, reform, progress, development, but all as tensions are slowly rising. Franco-German relations are at an all-time low, with the German Confederation having claimed the provinces of Alsace/Elsaß and Lorraine/Lothringen as a reaction to the French claims over the Rhineland. German-Danish relations are also slowly deteriorating, as the Confederation is trying to convince the other great powers to condemn the annexation of Holstein.

Chyan is a different version of Qian, which should be heavenly force or heaven if I read my trigrams right.

Government Info
Government Type: Constitutional Kingdom
Brief Explanation of Government: The Kingdom of Brandenburg was created after the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved on 6 August 1806, when Emperor Francis II abdicated his title and released all imperial states and officials from their oaths and obligations to the empire. Before that, the Margraviate of Brandenburg had played a pivotal role in HRE-politics as one of the electors and a counter-weight to the Austrian and Bomenian emperors.

The administration of the Kingdom is heavily influenced by the now gone Dutch Republic, that was an ally of the Margraviate of Brandenburg throughout most of the 17th and 18th century. The notion of an absolutist ruler by the grace of God never got hold of Brandenburg and in the early 18th century a Bill of Rights was proclaimed, giving far-reaching freedom to subjects in matters of religion, speech and science. A council of nobles serves as a parliament, though it never had any formal power and can in no way be compared to it's Dutch or English counterparts.

In response to bad working environments in the many factories, the availability of more-or-less free printing press, the lack of a parliament and the democratic wave washing through Europe since the mid 18th century (most notably the creation of a Pomeranian Republic and the French Revolution), democratic and other anti-establishment factions have been steadily growing and there is an ever increasing political unrest; especially in the biggest town and industrial hub of Berlin.

A further cause of tension is the fact King Frederick received the newly created Kingdom of Belgium at the Congress of Vienna, as a reward for his contribution in fighting the Napoleontic armies. Many opponents of Frederick resent that he is spending most of his time in Brussels, rather than Potsdam.

Otto von Bismarck

Army: 55.000 active soldiers, split up in 3 armies, reserve of additional 100.000 conscripted soldiers to be quickly (within two or three months) drafted in time of war.

The army of Brandenburg is well organized and well supplied. Brandenburg houses a number of world famous weapon manufacturies, which enables the army of Brandenburg to field state-of-the-art artillery, and a fine military academy where well trained officers graduate on a yearly basis.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: The major hub of industry is the city of Berlin, which houses factories in the field of mechanical engineering, metal processing, chemicals, railway industries as well as textile and garment operations.

The industrial city of Neuruppin was destroyed in a city fire in 1845; the rebuilt factories are amongst the most modern in the world. Neuruppin is famous for it's texile, metal processing and weapons industry.

Brandenburg's infrastructure is advanced, with railways linking all major cities and canals providing access to Pommerania and the sea.

Goals: Retain independence, secure an alliance with a Great Power, form a North German Confederation, break the unity of the Austrian-led German confederation

History: The Kingdom of Brandenburg evolved from the medieval Margraviate of Brandenburg. An Elector of the Holy Roman Empire, Brandenburg played a pivotal role in internal HRE-politics, and acted as a counterforce to Austria during much of it's existence. During the Thirty Year War a joint army of Brandenburg and Swedish forces managed to defeat the Austrian emperor, leader of the Catholic coalition. The Swedish-Brandenburgian alliance proved short-lived when Sweden invaded Brandenburg in 1674. Despite heavy losses, the Brandenburgian armies managed to beat back the Swedes. After this invasion Brandenburg started financially and military support for Pomeranian German nobles in an attempt to provoke a revolt. This revolt happened in the late 17th century, and just after the turn of the 18th century Brandenburg and Denmark intervened to end Swedish rule in Pomerania once and for all.

For almost a century, the Hohenzollern's ruled over Pomerania, until Charles I of Pomerania died without legitimate issue. Frederick II saw an opportunity to seize control of the neighbouring country, but the Pomeranians instead opted for the declaration of a Republic, sending shockwaves through Germany. Even though Frederick III still resents the very idea of a democratically ruled Pomerania, he gave up his claim to the throne a decade ago. This normalized relations between the two countries and soon after, a formal alliance was created.

During the Congress of Vienna two mayor events happened for Brandenburg: Austria and other German states, including Brandenburg, merged into the German Confederation, and the King of Brandenburg received the newly founded Kingdom of Belgium in personal union. Brandenburg was one of the few states that managed to contain the revolutionary wave of '48 without Austrian intervention, but saw Austrian influence grow in the rest of the Confederation. Using the pretext of the Second Rhine Crisis, the Austrian's proposed a change to the Constitution of the Confederation, making it into a more centralized confederation under Austrian rule. This was rejected by the Brandenburgian King after heavy pressure from nationalist factions not to ratify. Together with Pomerania and the Hanseatic cities, Brandenburg left the Confederation and declared independence. This indepencence was guaranteed by the Empire of Ruthenia.

Just as a note for some of the alternate history that is being discussed discordside, Frederick III currently (If that is the ruler you are going for) holds a personal union over Belgium, which may or may not be a point of tension. Any case, look forward to seeing the rest of the app.

*Also a small edit, Brandenburg never controlled Prussia, so Prussian probably wouldn't be an accepted culture in your nation.

Nation Name: Kingdom of Suk, Kingdom of Shu, 蜀
Symbols: Flag of Shu
Location: 42
Population: 53,643,850
Capital City: Chengdu

Government Info
Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: All power lies in the hands of the Monarch, being the King of Suk. With such power he is allowed to distribute the responsibilities to any he wishes and take away from any he pleases. Though this is left relatively and instead as many Suk rulers have had their Government for years being the Grand Ministry. Underneath the Monarch lies the working of the inner Government of Suk being the Grand Ministry, led by the Chancellor they handle the day to day tasks that the Government must face and generally has freedom to create laws to adapt to the necessary will of the Government, though only with approval of the Monarch.

Making up the Grand Ministry, those included are the Chancellor which organizes and overlooks the several separate ministries and brings forth summary reports to the King. The Minister of War, which overlooks the several Commands of Suk and the Lesser Ministers of the Army and Navy. The second is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, which handle the diplomatic situation in the name of the King of Suk and the Chancellor. The Third is the Minister of Internal Affairs, which is given a more liberal extension of power which includes the investigation of other ministries and its ministers and focuses mostly on fighting internal corruption of Governors. The Fourth Minister is the Minister of Economic Expansion and Trade, the ministry focuses mostly on expanding economic growth within the Kingdom and enforcing tariffs or other trade laws that are being enforced. The Fifth Minister is the Minister of Agricultural and Fishing Concern, which is self-explanatory. The Sixth Minister leading the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and finally the Minister of Industrial Production and Construction. Under the guidance of the Seven Ministers making up the Grand Ministry, the Kingdom of Suk has managed some sort of stability.

Ideology: Government: Traditionalism, Conservatism and Anti-Chyan Sentiment. Populace: Progressivism, Liberalism, Socialism (Utopian Socialism, Mutualism, Social Democrats, etc.), Minor Proto-Communist elements
Leader/s: King of Suk Meng Li, Chancellor Guo Fen
Relations
Kingdom of Gwai: The Kingdom of Suk attempts to keep good relations between the two royal nations, trading being encouraged and the eventual integration of the smaller Kingdom beneficial. Hoping to use Yut as a basis as to why they should join, so that they may be protected from the greater dangers that is the world of Asian geopolitics.

Kingdom of Yut: Although the southern neighbor, though not connecting, is a threat in the eyes of the Suk elites. They do not know when Yut will turn inward towards the mainland or if their attempts at getting Gwai into their sphere fails and Yut borders them in a position closer to their capital. They hope to keep indifferent relations with nation, but is prepared to fight if they must.

Tibet: Seen as a rather backwards nation and unable to really protect themselves, Tibet is far from the threat for the forces placed there. But the reason for the greatness that are going towards the nation, is the eventual wishes to take it over. Not to control directly, but as a Protectorate like that of the Western Protectorate, to defend their western flank from the dangers that may come from Chyan. They will fall to the greater expansion of Suk.

Chyan: Suk sees the nation to their north was a greater threat than any sort of nation to their east and south could ever be, an invader into the lands that are rightfully part of China and rightfully part of the Greater territory of what was once Han Shu long ago. Though the will to march north is slow, they are the ones most prepared to fight against the invading foreigners and their religion which poison the people of the Middle Kingdom.

Naamdzui Confederation: Another nation in which Suk sees as part of a once greater nation they once were, Non-Chinese controlling the rightful lands that were once China. A more possible goal than that of Chyan, plans are made but are not yet to be carried out. Biding their time to grow stronger and expel the menace out of rightful lands of China.

Kingdom of Tso: Though being their main neighbor to their east, they tend to be indifferent to the greatness that is Suk. The nation does not mind their ignorance, for it only gives more manpower elsewhere for greater needs.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The people of Suk although at the beginning were once a traditional people, once the liberal Mousan Revolutions kicked off several years ago, it showed a new sort of enlightenment upon the people of Suk a need of being able to govern the self. Although their land was once a land of benevolence, almost 1,600 years ago under the guiding hand of Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang, now a monarch with too much power and little care for their people. While the elites preach tradition, which the people of Suk agree must survive, but they also are slow to the ever evolving world that they inhabit and the Grand Ministry only holds them back, along with their King. A Dynasty over 900 years old refusing to see the error of their ways as Meng Shu, they hope to find a new guiding hand of equality and care for their people that will lead them to a brighter future.
Religion: Chinese Folk Religion, Buddhism and minor Christian groups.
Ethnicity: Shu Chinese
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Sichuanese, other local Chinese cultures(ex. IRL-UK would be English, Scottish; only cultures that are dominant and the gov't favors)
Other Cultures: Tibetan, Burmese, Gan Chinese, Bai, Several other cultures found mostly in Yunnan

Military Info
Army: The army of Suk is seen as a powerful force of the interior of China, it however does not compare to its militarized neighbor to their east being Tso. Due to the history the nation suffers, many believe that attacking has never brought forth any sort of benefit to the people of Shu. Zhuge Liang's northern campaigns and then his protege's Jiang Wei, then the conquests the land had suffered to unify the land once more. It has shown that the offensive way of fighting was not right for Suk, which after its independence was regained, they abandoned the idea of mass offensives and instead focused on defenses so impenetrable no matter how large as force was, will never capitulate the nation of Suk. Claiming that the way of combat should be like a turtle, which Suk adopted as their new military strategy.

Like a turtle it has several legs and its head all within the shell, through this it shows that separate forces is the key to success and to defend its head from any harm. Thus the military is split into four separate commands. The Northern Command, Western Command, Eastern Command and the Southern Command, all under the Grand Command which they hail to. These different commands have a lead general which enforces their own policy of defense depending on how they wish to wage war, different types of tactics and strategies all needing the approval of the Grand Command to enact. The Northern Command holds 120,000 (70,000 active with 50,000 reserve) troops in which to defend from Chyan, The Eastern Command holds 90,000 (40,000 active with 50,000 reserve) troops to defend from Tso, the Southern Commands holds 60,000 troops (20,000 active with 40,000 reserve) and finally the Western Command with 70,000 troops (40,000 active with 30,000 reserve), though the Grand Command has direct control of the Grand Reserve forces of 100,000 men capable of being sent to any of the four commands quickly to join their ranks and repel invaders. They also are prepared in care one of the commands collapses so that the capital cannot be taken once again by surprise like the forces of Cao Wei did long ago. These men being the defenders of the land of Suk, these men with as advanced weapons as one can obtain, all produced locally in the factories of Suk, it finds itself slow and military ideas old and refusing the change. Though one ambitious General in the West sets eyes on Tibet to claim a new birthright.(branches, number of troops, quality of army, etc,)

Navy: The Suk navy prides itself to be one of the best navies in China, though not like the great ocean going navies of the Yut or the Min, but as those of the rivers. Suk dominates the river it controls and patrols, through river monitors and even river ironclads that sail down the river to enforce trade regulations set forth by the Grand Ministry. The river navy of the Kingdom of Suk includes: 5 ironclads, 7 Tin-clads, 4 River monitors, 11 Steamships and various other support ships that rule the river.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: The economy of the Kingdom of Suk is a rather diverse one, having a mixture of agricultural lands and industrial hearts, its ability to harvest coal to fuel the factories brings itself prosperity. Growing tea and rice, thus being able to grow rich off exports and feed themselves, while industrial factories produce goods that fuel the consumer market of Suk. Though an important industry is are the shoe makers and that quality footwear that the Kingdom of Suk prides itself in, claiming that no other nation has such materials to make them as durable and comfortable. Ranging from simple resting slippers to strong cavalry boots for riding, Suk troops can march for miles without harming blisters and the weather. They also have the comfortable position with the river running through their lands, so trade is efficient as long as those down it take care to know their place, to not mess with the mighty Kingdom that is Suk.
Goals: Elites: The continuation of the Monarchy and its expansion throughout Southwestern China as their ancestors had did long ago, ensuring that Suk will survive. People: Find a new guiding light towards the future and overthrowing the monarchy, retrieving the right to rule the self and perhaps something greater.

History:

The history of the Kingdom of Suk started all the way to when the Han Dynasty fell apart, with the former nation in turmoil many came to rise from its depths. Those many thought it would be under the guidance of Liu Biao, the ruler of the lands of Jing or Liu Yan ruler of the South west. But those never came to be with the coming of Liu Bei after fleeing from the warlord Cao Cao and with help of Sun Quan established himself in the Southwest of China taking out Liu Biao and Liu Yan along with Lui Zhang. After many years of fighting with his rival to the north, whom later claimed by their son to be Cao Wei. Liu Bei claimed the land he owned to be that of the Shu Han, as Emperor the people believed he would be the guiding light to which their greatness will grow under. But it took a turn for the worst when the Kingdom of Wu betrayed them, losing the great general Guan Yu, following the betrayal of Zhang Fei, all this to the growing decline of Liu Bei's health passing on to join his brothers in the gardens where they made an oath they would fight together and die together as agreed.

With the fall of Liu Bei, the next ruler Liu Shan took the throne and under the guidance of Zhuge Liang, they attempted more advanced into Cao Wei with little success, in the final battle with Sima Yi, Zhuge Liang fell to illness and his successor Jiang Wei attempted to continue leading Shu, leading 11 campaigns but all of them failing. Then under the guidance of Sima Zhao, Wei forces advanced into the capital of Shu and forced the surrender of the Shu Han Kingdom. Jiang Wei attempted one last time to rise but fell to betrayal allowing the Jin to reunite China and the quietness of Shu to go unheard through the years.

Though this time, the culture and languages of the region stood strong, through the centuries under the Sui and Tang. It wasn't until the fall of the Tang dyansty did Suk find itself rising once again, under the command of the Military Governor Wang Jian who claimed himself the Emperor of Great Shu, or Wang Shu. He expanded his lands greatly in the attempt to rise once more, many expected the Kingdom to last long. It was however when Wang Jian died and his incompetent son took over, surrendering the Kingdom to the Later Tang and thus Suk once more was under another realm. After several years, a new Military Governor rose in the conquered lands of the Former Shu, Meng Zhixiang. Quickly he gained power in the region and with a fellow Military Governor Dong Zhang, they were successful though Meng wished to return to the nation of the Later Tang. With this Zhang felt betrayed and so the two waged war against one another, leading to the rise of Meng once he overpowered Dong, controlling his land and obtaining even greater autonomy under the Later Tang. It wasn't until the Emperor died and his 19 year old son took the throne did Meng declare independence with the lands, claiming himself the Emperor of Shu. He sadly died a year later from a stroke, naming his son the Crown Prince then dying that same day later. The nation transferred peacefully to the hands of Meng Chang, the next Emperor of Shu who was only 15.

Through the years Chang would lead Meng Shu through the struggles of the period, conflicting officers and other warlords that claimed their lands. Beheading those that went against them and forcing others to retirement. Though he could've been an effective ruler, he did not listen to those that gave advice and had generals be placed by their status with other families instead of their ability. Like that of the former shu's loss of a great leader and fall to the incompetent, which was seen by the Chancellorship of Li Hao. When the Song Dynasty came forward from the death of Shu's former rival, many were fearful. Li Hao encouraged Meng Chang to submit to the nation as a vassal, at first Meng thought it the best course of action but later changed his mind. When the Song finally did invade Shu, Meng Chang was determined that the ability to defend his nation was secured, that the capital would not fall, but Li Hao could not see the lands safe in the hands of such a ruler. Taking his son, claiming he was going on tour with him to show to all the people, Meng accepted and Li quickly left and fled to the lands of the Song. With a great army he gathered he betrayed Meng Shu to Song which allowed its defeat to come quickly and the death of Meng Chang secured. The Song Emperor Taizu asked if Li Hao wished to be the new ruler of the conquered lands, but he refused. He made a promise to Meng Zhixiang that he would be the Chancellor to the lands and support his descendants, with this he put the young Meng Xuanzhe in control of the newly taken territories under the regency of Chancellor Li Hao.

Under the proper tutor he needed, Meng Xuanzhe did not become a pompous asshole who strutted with consorts like what did happen, he learned to be a fair ruler and to make proper decisions as he grew under Li Hao. Enjoying the youth's ability to understand and learn, he felt accomplished and felt he had another son. Li Hao's wife joined him in the capital and so when sickness fell upon him five years later, he managed to survive it and lived on with the young ruler. After reaching a more proper age, he took over many responsibilities of Li Hao, allowing the old man to rest. Though despite the lack of stress he passed away peacefully and happily alongside his wife in 970, in mourning of such a great father figure he was, Meng Xuanzhe commissioned a painting of him and his family, when told that Li Hao would want Meng to be in it he accepted it with tears and so was cemented in history with the Chancellor. The painting still hanging within the great palace of Chengdu.

Peace once again found itself under the Song, Xuanzhe knew that it was due to the intervention of Li Hao that allowed himself to be a great ruler. So when his sons came of age he tutored every single one personally to ensure they grew up fair and bright, those that did not he guided towards other paths such as philosophy and warfare. With this it ensured his sons would be made Governors and their sons would be made governors too, thus entrenching the Meng Dynasty in the lands of Shu as loyal governors of the Song and protectors of the realm who bring peace and prosperity. When the Mongols invaded the Song dynasty, the Meng led lands fought bravely against the hordes under the Song Dynasty but it could not last. They were subjugated under the rule of the Yuan dynasty and so bide their time as the Meng dynasty slowly continued their gathering of strength. After several years, the Meng clan rose with the Red Turbans, though making sure theirs were green with red as compliments, they fought once more against the dynasty that put the foot down on their lands established greatly from their ancestor Meng Xuanzhe. It was under Meng Hao that once the rebellion ended, at first they claimed themselves as once the Song Dynasty once more, named Meng Song. It was when the peasant leader Ming Yuzhen that attempted to take over the lands of Meng Song did Meng Hao realize that they were capable of their own destiny. Despite the heart breaking decision of his ancestor, he once again claimed control of the lands of Shu, rising to the state of Meng Shu or the Kingdom of Suk as known today.

With the return of Meng Shu, Meng Hao passed away and Meng Zhao took the throne of Suk, he joined the great alliance with Yut and ended the rising Ming nation that would unify China, ensuring that the reign of Meng Shu would continue to last the ages. Taking the continue teachings of fair rulers and encouraging other means for those incapable, the lands of Suk enjoyed prosperity never before seen despite the warfare and diseases that it suffered, it would return to relative peace except when defending against the invading Chyan forces in their expansion wars and when defending against the warlord Zhang Xianzhong who attempted to invade the Kingdom of Suk to claim it as his own, it ended in the famous battle of Chengdu after the failure to take Chongqing. AS such, Meng Shu continued in peace growing and enjoying the great industrial revolutions that came to their lands. Though after such revolutions the people started demanding more, under a correct ruler under the guidance set by Li Hao it would be expected that they would be fair. But after so long, so many centuries, these teachings relaxed and incompetence once again rose throughout the ranks. It was during the Mousan Revolutions that the nation barely held together through a competent ruler who helped the people but in doing so neglected the sons he was trying to raise to restore the tradition. As such died before getting the chance to teach Meng Li when he ascended to the throne with the Chancellor Guo Fen who fears that the repeat of Meng Chang will return and the future of Suk blurred.

Empire of Japan
Generic Info
Nation Name: Empire of Japan
Symbols:
Flag of Japan
Imperial Seal
Japanese Battle Flag
Location: 26
Population: 34,985,000
Capital City: Tokyo

Government Info
Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: A hereditary monarchy with a deified emperor. The Emperor holds absolute power, but steps are being made to draft a constitution and allow democracy.
Ideology: Nationalism, Conservatism, Liberalism, Neo-Confucianism.
Leader/s: Emperor Meiji
Relations Just emerging from an isolationist period leaves Japan with little diplomatic ties to other nations. It did have some unequal trade treaties forced upon it by the Chinese and Koreans, leading them to try to create relationships with western nations. The emperor is looking to form positive relationships with more modern nations.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: Majority Ethnic Japanese with disdain for outsiders.
Religion: Shinto and Buddhism
Ethnicity: Japanese
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Japanese
Other Cultures: Minor groups of Ainu and Joseon, especially in the Hokkaido.

Military Info
Army: 17,900 troops. Conscription efforts are growing the size of the army, but it is still quite small. The army is inexperienced, but is importing foreign officers to make up for the lack of experience in running a modern army.
Navy: Currently quite small with antiquated ships. Currently in the midst of trying to order modern ships and officers from Britain.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: Currently in the midst of modernization. The currency has been unified under the yen, tax laws are being implemented, and infrastructure built. It is a free market economy with little government interference. Mainly agriculture, but has a growing textile manufacturing industry.
Goals: Modernize the country and become a world power.
History:
Jōmon Period(14,000 - 1,000 BCE): Beginning of agriculture and pottery in Japan.
Yayoi Period(1,000 BCE - 300 CE): Rice paddy agriculture introduced, along with advanced metallurgy techniques.
Kofun Period(300 - 538 CE): Named after the keyhole tombs of the Yamato Dynasty. Start of centralized power in Japan.
Asuka Period(538 - 710CE): Japanese separated itself from China politically and culturally during this period.
Nara Period(710 – 794CE): Permanent capital established in Nara. Increase in road building and coin minting led to increased tax revenue, mainly around the capital.
Heian Period(794 - 1185CE): Height of Chinese cultural influence in Japan. The capital was moved to Kyoto where it remained for a millennium. During this period, Imperial rule was eroded by the Fujiwara clan. The Samurai class began its rise to power during this time.
Kamakura Period(1185 – 1333CE): Military rule was established, led by the Shogun while the Emperor was turned into a figurehead. The Hojo clan usurped the Shogun title from the original Minamoto Shoguns. During this period the Samurai warrior class rose to power. The Mongols first invaded in 1274, but were held off by local forces and had there fleets ravaged by a typhoon. The Mongols sent another fleet in 1281 and again had their fleets smashed by a typhoon. The typhoons were seen as a divine wind from the gods furthering the Japanese people's belief in the heavens favoring Japan. Unfortunately for the Hojo the massive cost of the fortifications and fighting a defensive war led to increased taxes and angry warriors.
Kenmu Restoration(1333 - 1336CE): An imperial revolt that used the dissatisfaction caused by the costs from the Mongol invasions to overthrow the Hojo Shogunate and restore the Emperor to power. Unfortunately for the Emperor, the warriors who took his side against the Hojo wanted power for themselves and returned the emperor to a figurehead.
Muromachi Period(1336 - 1573CE): The Muromachi Shogunate ruled during this period. Regional rulers, called daimyōs, rose in power during this period. Civil unrest marked this period and eventually it degraded into what is known as the warring states period. Christianity along with other facets of western culture were introduced to Japan during this period.
Azuchi–Momoyama Period(1573 - 1600CE): This period marked the end of the warring states period after the collapse of the Muromachi Shogunate control. Oda Nobunaga began the unification of Japan and it was fully unified by his successor Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Oda Nobunaga ousted the current Shogun, but was killed before he could put down all his enemies by his treacherous general, the vile rat known as Akechi Mitsuhide. Toyotomi Hideyoshi won the scramble to avenge his master by defeating Mitsuhide's army at the Battle of Yamazaki and took control of Japan after defeating the remaining dissenters. Hideyoshi was born as a commoner so he did not receive the title of Shogun. After unifying Japan, Hideyoshi set his sights on China, although he first had to go through Korea. The Japanese army pushed the Korean army all the way to their capital, even capturing some of the royal family, but were eventually rebuffed by the Koreans. Hideyoshi attempted to invade Korea again, but his death halted to war as generals turned to internal power struggles and the issue of succession.
Tokugawa period(1603 - 1868CE): After Hideyoshi died, the five regents he appointed held an uneasy truce. This lasted until the death of one of their number destabilized their truce leading to a war for power. Tokugawa Ieyasu defeated his enemies in the Battle of Sekigahara and took the title of Shogun for himself. After abolishing or shrinking enemy daimyo houses he passed the title of Shogun to his son, ensuring the heredity nature of the title. During this period Japan became strictly isolationist, limiting trade to a few controlled ports. Christianity was driven from the country through government persecution and expelling the majority of Europeans from the country. Japanese were forbidden from leaving the country and eventually the only place foreigners, mainly the Chinese, with some Dutch and English traders as well, could enter was at an artificial island in the port of Nagasaki. The class structure during this period was quite rigid with little to no social mobility. Some castes were even seen as subhuman and were sequestered into their own villages. While the emperor was revered at the top of the social hierarchy, he had only a ceremonial role with the Shogun holding all political power.
Meiji Period(1868 - Present): After the invasion of Hokkaido showed the threat of foreign powers had not disappeared with the Mongols, many Daimyo were concerned by the countries weakness. Seeing the isolationist policies of the Shogun as the main reason for the countries weakness, many Daimyo rose up in support of the Emperor and the Shogun resigned in 1867. Although he resigned the Shogun still held a massive amount of influence on the Japanese government, so the forces of the restoration went to war against the Ex-Shogun and eventually defeated him in 1868 in the Boshin war. With the last threat to imperial rule crushed the Emperor and his allies began reforming Japanese society by limiting the power of the warrior class and by breaking the class hierarchy set up by the Tokugawa Shogunate. The powers once held by the Daimyo were returned to the Emperor, creating a heavily centralized government.

RP Sample:
By Imperial Decree of His Divine Majesty Emperor Meiji, the Empire of Japan shall create a modern navy, based on the superior naval design and tactics of the Empire of Britain. Too long has the navy of our nation been lagging behind the nations of the world, too long has our false sense of superiority held back progress. As of this moment we shall make a great stride forward, becoming a nation who can defend our coasts and waters from foreign invaders. In order to improve ourselves we must learn from our betters, and who better to learn from than the best. The Majesty of the British navy is well known throughout the world and on the back of their masterfully crafted ships and supremely trained naval officers, they have defended their island nation from the most dreadful of threats. Thus in order to build the most powerful and majestic navy of our own, we shall first order the construction of a fleet of modern ships in the well respected shipyards of Britain. Second, we shall hire the battle tested officers of the British navy to help found our own Japanese Naval Academy. Lastly, we shall endeavor to construct our own naval shipyards and train our own naval engineers. With these steps we will rise from a powerless backwater to a formidable world power and bring about a new age of power and prestige for the Empire of Japan.

Location: 29
Population: 19,420,000
Capital City: Luoyang

Government Info
Government Type: Council Advised Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: The King is the head of state but he is assisted in the day to day runnings of the Kingdom by a council of advisors drawn from the different branches of the government. The council is made up of the head Scholar, a representative from each of the recognized religions, the commander of the army, and an elected member of the governors to represent them.
Ideology: (Refer to this) Nationalism, imperialism
Leader/s: Yuan Yi- Yellow King, Liu Bao- Head Scholar, Kong Zhou-Current elected head of governors, He Chou- Current Military Commander and Dragon of the West. Yuan Lu- Heir to the Yellow Throne
Relations Rival of North Jou. Defensive pact with Tso.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: Before the division of North and South the people of Jou were the proud caretakers of the ancestral home of the Chinese people and as such have a hearty dose of confidence in themselves and firmly believe in caring for the traditional homeland.
Religion: Taoism, Confuscianism, and Buddhism are the largest three religions and the only officially recognized religions but there are smatterings of Christian elements that are left to their own devices as long as they do not go against the King.
Ethnicity: Zhongguo
Main/Accepted Culture(s): All of the mainland Huaxia cultures are accepted by the government with the only rule being you cannot go against an Imperial Law or Order.
Other Cultures: Christian culture is not accepted but tolerated.

Military Info
Army: 580,000 Soldiers divided between support personel and the actual army with 80,000 being support personnel. The army is nominally divided between the area they serve in. The north having the most and highly trained soldiers at 250,000 and highest trained due to unofficial border clashes with north jou. They are proficient in raids, sieges and defensive positions but lack in open battle experience. The East and west are the same size at 100,000. The west sharing a border with north jou and Hubei has more experience than the East but only in pushing back small raiding parties and uncovering spies. The southern army is the smallest at only 50,000 and the least trained. More akin to a militia of part time soldiers than a standing army they only cover the border with Tso as well as patrol the rivers. The last war being the civil war nearly 50 years ago the Jou military is very slowly modernizing with the only part of the army being semi kept up to date is artillery. Also their tactics except for small scale raids have suffered with the only relevant military experience among the army being the small scale raids that occur as well as the experience the Dragon of the West has garnered from traveling abroad on his own funds to observe. Due to this the army excepting the raiding and scout units still have the flamboyant bright yellow with crimson red edges uniforms and have no plans as of yet to modernize chat
Navy: Nonexistent due to a lack of a port.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: Heavy reliance on merchants that trade both over land and over the rivers. A hefty amount of the economy is food and coal but the government has little interference in the economy except for collecting taxes.
Goals: Reunite with North Jou.
History: A polity with an ancient pedigree, it would be the best contender to be the vehicle of Zhongyuan nationalism, were it not presently disunited. Since the Mongols departed, it was a regional power of the North China plain, perhaps the strongest on it, expanding until its split in the last generation. The north is held by one claimant to the throne, the south by another, their border the Yellow River except for a few areas in the east, where the northern Jou holds areas spilling past the ancient capital of Kaifeng. To the south of both factions, tensed at each other, is Hubei Commandery, which had declared itself an independent Lang during the civil war, but which had then rescinded the claim to nominally return to the Jou, now recognising variously the northern or southern, typically the former due to its distance and smaller size. The original split between older and younger brother that occurred has continued to the present day with the older and rightful brother in command of South Jou while the youngest of the one Three now two brothers rules north jou. Yuan Yi accusing his younger brother Yuan Liu of attempting to poison him but also in succeeding in murdering their middle brother who died under mysterious circumstances while the Yuan Liu accuses Yuan Yi of the attempted murder on him and the murder of their middle brother. Yuan Yi has sought allies to to one day reunite his kingdom and has seen some success securing a defensive alliance with Tso which freed up troops to be shifted north. He is also working on negotiating for Hubei to rejoin Jou, even willing to make concessions of some autonomy if it means focusing more fully on his wayward brother.

Domestic News

"In today's news, several French companies have begun work developing the infrastructure of the country. The foreign corporations have begun work on cellphone lines, railways and providing civilian air transport which has made it significantly easier to travel and communicate within the country. One man praised the new additions that were very recently put up as it allows his daughter to call him when she needs to be picked up as well as making it cheaper to fly when traveling. While this has been going on project freeway has been moving along surely as can be with only minor setbacks so far. There has been a small spree of muggings in the capital of Tehran for the last week but the city police have been attempting to crack down on it with help from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Undercover agents have already prevented several attempted muggings and robberies of both citizens and tourist alike. There has also been construction going on outside the capital around Khojir national park and most guess that some kind of paved trail and possibly buildings are being in place but that is only guesses and more will come as we find out. Tune in later for an interview of Anahita and how her new pet goat have both made guest appearances in many talk shows.

Speech by Supreme Leader

"Greetings, to my brothers and sisters in faith, it has been brought to my attention that a Jihad has been declared. No, it was not declared by a holy Imam who sees the blessings of the prophet on just and holy war. It was called by Erdogan, the Turkish tyrant. He has no religious authority that has been made known to me. He is not a holy preacher, nor is he the rightful ruler, the Caliph. His words are but the wind blowing through the desert calling for someone to save his dreams. He clings to his power and calls for the righteous to spill their blood for his mad desires. While he is in a war, it is not a Jihad. His enemies are not the enemies of Islam for some are Muslims themselves. He uses words with power to try and add to his own. His use of the term makes the word itself seem lesser and can be tossed around as if it meant nothing. To invoke such a holy act with the most unholy of intents is not only morally but spiritually wrong and I pray for his soul as it is clearly in need of guidance to stop his mad acts."

Forgein News

"Recent activity in the conflict in Yemen has been met with pledges of backing to the Houthis, though the government did not confirm whether or not this would be military aid or purely financial backing. However, it has been confirmed that Iranian construction equipment was transported to Hezbollah facilities to help with the construction of hospitals and free shelter. The exact amount of equipment sent and what kind of equipment is unknown but one of the journalists that volunteer at the hospitals there has reported the equipment has arrived and was much needed. For now, the equipment is on indefinite lease and is more than likely going to be used to also build clinics and schools in the area. Hamas has also received construction equipment to once again help with medical facilities and housing. Both have also received Iranian teachers who volunteered to teach there as well as medical supplies and a few practicing doctors to teach new professionals.

In other news, Hezbollah and Hamas have both also received an increase of arms that was documented when both organizations held military parades, featuring Main Battle Tanks that were common in the Cold War, as well as new missile deployment vehicles and small arms. While tensions are rising over Sarawak, Iran has no input into the matter and so is sticking clear of the matter altogether. "A conflict would be against the interest of the nation and her people" as has been stated by the Supreme Leader.

Generic Info
Nation Name: Empire of Chyan | 大乾 Dà Qián | Qian Dynasty | ᠳᠠᠢ ᠦ‍ᠨ Dai Gün | بۈيۈك چھەن Büyük Chen
Symbols: 乾, the White Tiger, the flag above
Location: 23
Population: 57,436,000 (from populstat)
Capital City: Chang'an

Government Info
Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: Chyan seeks to emulate the Chinese Empires of old, and so it has adopted a pretty familiar model. Large bureaucracy, eunuch corps, Imperial harem, examinations, etc. It does differ in its provinces, but largely uses the system created by the Yuan.
Ideology: Absolutism
Leader/s: Tyejr (PY: Tiězhì) Emperor 鐵志帝 | Mïsïr Temür | Tai Lyushan (PY: Tài Lüshan) 泰履善
More characters tbd during rp (i.e. Empress Dowager, Empress, Concubines, Princes, Ministers, etc.)
Relations TBD, but I was thinking they'd likely have some influence with Tso, one of the Jous, and other Chinese states. Likely decent relations with Ruthenia, Iran, Mughals (ignore me, I'll ignore you etc.)

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: A diverse people, varying greatly in culture and religion. Despite this there is common ground from centuries of sinicisation.
Religion: There is no official state religion, though Buddhism (both Vajrayana and Mahayana), Nestorian Christianity, and Islam are held in high esteem by the government. Chinese folk religion, Taoism, Confucianism, Manichaeism, and Tengriism are also patronised by the state to a lesser extent. The Imperial family are largely Nestorian, but often take part in a myriad of religious ceremonies, and often patronise numerous temples.
Ethnicity: Largely East Asian, but also some Central Asians and Iranics.
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Yugur, Han, Mongol, Uyghur
Other Cultures: Hui, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Tuvan, Tibetan, misc. other

Military Info
Army: The administration of the Qian army is divided between the Ministry of War, which is responsible for local garrisons and internal military affairs, and the more important Bureau of Military Affairs, responsible for strategy, operations, and implementation. The army is divided into two pairs of two, the senior pair, the Tanmachi (探馬赤軍) and the Hanjun (漢軍, also known as the Old Army), and the junior pair, the Menggu Jun (蒙古軍) and the Xinfujun (新附軍, also known as the New Army)
The Tanmachi consists of 40,000 soldiers and is considered the most prestigious and senior of the services. It receives the best training and equipment, and is the only army allowed to garrison the home province and capital. It recruits solely from the Turkic peoples, particularly the Uyghur and Yugurs, and is led mainly by members of the Imperial clan and select non-Han noble families.
The Hanjun is the junior of the senior services, usually consisting of around 400,000 soldiers. It was formed from the Han and Hui soldiers of the Kingdom of Gansu, and only recruits from those ethnic groups from areas predating the conquest of the Han State.
The Menggu Jun, or the Mongolian Army, numbers around 30,000, and is considered the senior of the junior services. It recruits exclusively from Mongolic peoples, though Manchu, Russian (meaning from Russia), and Koreans are eligible for service. It is the most traditional of the services, with an emphasis on cavalry and mobility.
The Xinfujun is the most junior of the services, usually numbering around 300,000 soldiers, and was formed after the conquest of the Han State. It solely recruits from Han peoples, mostly from the areas of the former Han State.
Navy: A largely riverine navy which exists solely to support the army

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: A largely agriculture-based economy with strong government interference. With a strong emphasis on traditional economics and a lack of opportunity, Qian has lagged behind the other states of China, particularly the industrial coast. Many top officials fear reform as a gateway to exploitation by more economically powerful neighbours.
Goals: - Reunite China (what is and isn't considered China, is left to speculation)
- Achieve self-reliance
- Restore China's place in the world
History: - Köke Temür doesn't die in 1375. After the fall of the Yuan he did not flee north, but instead consolidated control of Gansu province. He established the Zhao Dynasty.
- The Zhao Dynasty was eventually conquered by the Eastern Chagatai Khanate, though their control over the area was brief. The Kingdom of Gansu emerged out of a rebellion, led by a family of Nestorian Yugurs descended from Köke Temür.
- The Kingdom of Gansu conquered the Western Territories in its first expansion campaign, declaring itself the Qian Dynasty
- The second campaign of expansion was directed against the Mongols. The area was pacified, and then gradually annexed.
- The third campaign of expansion was directed against the Northern Han. The Northern Han fell, but pressure from the other Chinese states ended what was intended to be a campaign into the central plains.
- The capital was moved from Yinchuan to Chang'an
