The Special Interests Ground Missions Activity
The Special Interests Ground Missions Activity
The SIGMA Special Operations Group was activated in 2000 as a multi-national special operations force for the conducting of the most complex, classified, and dangerous missions directed by the Special Operations Command Authority. Only United Nations Security Council members have active operators within SIGMA.
Little is known regarding the origin or purpose of SIGMA other than to conduct operations regarding mysterious happenings around the world. Some have cited SIGMA operators as being potential pilots of new and dangerous experimental technology. This can neither be confirmed or denied as all SIGMA operations have been conducted without comment by government agencies.
In 1916, contact was made with a parallel dimension by a series of tests conducted by Austrian physicists and researchers. Resulting communications was said to have slowly driven all members of the project mad over the course of the next seven weeks and the program would be deactivated by the sole remaining member, Ludwig Flamm. Reactivated by the Germans in 1934, the program would fail to yield any results due to internal sabotage by Flamm.
In 1935, Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen rediscovered the means to developing this gateway and through a series of highly contained tests, managed to establish successful contact with the other side. They, however, omitted the existence of this gateway as according to government coercion on the matter from their papers. In 1942, the existence of the Gateway was explored as a potential means for delivering a weapon of mass destruction to a remote location, but was ultimately discarded due to heightened fears of discovery by the Germans, resulting in the development of Atomic Weaponry instead.
While the program was initially developed as a means to build a functional Nuclear Fission weapon, the Manhattan Project also yielded results into experimental energy taps that could open gateways to the parallel dimension. This information would soon come to use during the Cold War when Project Blackbird was developed. Utilizing test subjects to traverse the gateway, the governments of the United States of America, the British Commonwealth, and the United Kingdom, soon determined that substantial risk was taken by these subjects.
In 1965, the first subject would report contact with an unnamed entity from the other side. All electro-magnetic recordings of interviews with the subject have deteriorated due to REDACTED radiation. Anti-mimetic qualities have been annotated to likely result from trans-dimensional interactions and higher-order anomalous behaviors not yet understood. Personnel exposed to REDACTED radiation are required to spend at least one week recovery as repeated exposure can result in unwanted mutations and trauma. Additional studies of those subjects that interacted with foreign entities began to show heightened resistance to radiation poisoning.
In 1974, researchers with Project Bifrost reported potential for recovery of artifacts from the far side of the gateway with improvements in nuclear-power generation which could sustain more powerful gateways. Artifact recovery began in late 1976 and would continue unabated until REDACTED when a contingency reactor failed. REDACTED radiation was detected at the site and all remaining operations ceased. It is still unknown as to how this failure occurred, yet it is suspected that foreign incursion led to the incident. At the cessation of the investigations and artifact-recovery operations, all known anomalous activity ceased.
In 1983, researchers with Project Bifrost reported recovery of an artifact from the Edges of the Marianas Trench. Shortly thereafter, anomalous activity was recorded for a period of three years within the trench before ceasing. No research craft were dispatched at the time as Soviet focus on operations in the Atlantic was of greater concern to the governments of involved nations. It is believed that REDACTED was released from the REDACTED during this period and all subsequent attempts to establish contact have failed.
In 1994, the Russian Federation was officially briefed on SIGMA and all information regarding Soviet knowledge on the parallel dimension was divulged in return for access to US and Commonwealth information. While governments of the world uniquely determined there to be a threat from potential incursions, it would not be addressed until 1996. Multiple anomalous incidents regarding REDACTED were reported across the world and several hundred lives would be lost in additional incidents until 2000.
The SIGMA Special Operations Group was activated in 2000 as a multi-national special operations reaction force to the REDACTED regarding REDACTED. Operations information was gathered by on-the-ground resources regarding foreigner incursion. Those exposed to REDACTED were detained and studied. Technology derived from artifacts recovered led to the creation of special equipment that could only be controlled by REDACTED. All reactive personnel were deemed as "Hosts" and have been granted special authority in the usage of REDACTED and associated technology.
In 2013, the first SIGMA operation was conducted using First Generation Hosts. This operation was considered a success in spite of heavy casualties suffered when REDACTED became hostile and belligerent. Of 6 operators deployed, 2 of which were Hosts, both Hosts and one Security officer was killed. In the debrief, it was determined that age of the Hosts and power-usage from their technology had resulted in unwanted mutations. Both Hosts were determined to be past bio-criticality and were terminated before they could become hostile.
In 2018, Second Generation Hosts were brought into use and operational survivability went from 90% to 40%. It was determined that better training, understanding of REDACTED, and overall better screening for Host candidates led to higher success and lower mortality when engaging hostile foreigners. Third Generation Hosts were given authorization for deployment in 2020 utilizing newly refined technology and training as developed by the SIGMA Arsenal.
In 2020, Generation 3 Hosts were finally deployed after having spent 10+ years in training. Hosts have been taken from a multitude of operational backgrounds to include civilian and special test groups. They utilize suits known as Advanced Military Operations Suits (AMOS).
SIGMA - Edge of the Abyss, is a Science-Fiction/ Modern-Horror Military RP centered around Lovecraftian Mythos and engagement with entities from a parallel dimension. These entities are highly dangerous and their existence is kept as the most closely-guarded secret around the world. People die in this world and are easily broken by interacting with the other side and the foreigners (entities from the parallel dimension). Those that survive their encounters are considered to be highly infectious and are quarantined until the nature of their affliction can be determined. Hosts are selected from those who show minimal reaction to exposure, yet can interact with Eldritch technology. Due to their unique abilities, they are selected for training in anti-eldritch warfare. If they refuse this selection, they are generally indefinitely detained or terminated as they pose an inherent risk to non-affected personnel. All Hosts are assigned an AMOS if they so choose, which is then tailored to their unique levels of exposure and physiology. Those that forego usage of an AMOS are generally employed as support personnel on missions.
AMOS are the bio-engineered suits which Hosts use to combat Eldritch invaders (foreigners). They are developed off of a series of base chassis designs developed during earlier generations and largely combat the effects of utilizing augments. They do, however, fail with overuse and stress. In this event, a Host can suffer catastrophic failure of their self-containment system and mutate or transform. These events generally require the immediate termination of a Host and subsequent quarantine of the incident area alongside incineration of their remains to prevent potential exposure. AMOS Augments, Equipment, and SIGMA weaponry is developed in-house by the SIGMA Arsenal and Laboratories.
Operation Considerations:
1. Utilizing an Augment during a mission imposes Genetic Instability.
2. Exceeding safe or standard tolerances for Genetic Instability increases risk of Mutation or Transformation.
3. It takes roughly a week to recovery from light Genetic Instability, doubling in length respective to severity of the condition..
4. Mutations and Transformation are permanent and can often be lethal if not treated immediately or tempered.
Personnel that have been inducted into the SIGMA-SOG undergo extensive background investigations prior to joining. Each dossier covers various personal and professional aspects of the members of SIGMA as well as their designated AMOS. Initial entry into an AMOS requires a period of synchronization with their suit and as such limits the augments which can be safely added to the system. Additionally, blank templates for incoming SIGMA personnel and their AMOS will be provided in the coded section below.
SIGMA-SOG Personnel Data Sheet Template
The following form is for the purpose of quickly in-processing SIGMA-SOG Hosts and determining key factors regarding their history prior to SIGMA and during their service with it.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Fill out the application as prompted using all information as can best be supplied.
2. Select a 'Callsign' by using the name of a significant character from your operator's national history or mythology (Americans could use Davy Crockett or Rip Van Winkle for example).
3. Do not alter the Data Sheet as it is also an application of your character and should relatively be similar in size and composition to all others in the thread. Please refer to the currently accepted and listed Personnel Data Sheets under the Personnel Dossiers to get a feeling for how yours should look. The more I have to correct yours, the less time you'll have to post and take part in the thread. Let's not waste each other's time.
4. Keep in mind that operators are considered to be incredibly talented individuals, but they are not inhuman and have spent plenty of time developing their physical bodies as well as their mental acuity. Failure to realize this can result in abnormal circumstances arising IC.
5. Please keep all miscellaneous information relegated to the Remarks section under Personal Historical Record.

SIGMA-SOG AMOS Data Sheet Template
The following form is for the requisition of an Exosuit or Exosuit Modification. Use the provided resources under the SIGMA Arsenal when referencing external material.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. AMOS are not extensively developed yet, while their power sources are highly energetic and supply more power than traditional energy sources, they have limiters in place to protect pilots from Genetic mutations and instability.
2. The more equipment used aboard an AMOS, the more power it requires to operate unless the device has self-contained power-sources, which will increase weight and decrease mobility and reaction timing.
3. Adapting and modifying an Augment takes time. You may switch out Augments between missions, but this requires additional time which is liable to make the new Augment operate with higher risk of breaking or malfunctioning, Murphy's Law is in play.
5. Realize that the more you have going on, the more likely to suffer from mutations, instability, and injury from an AMOS your operator will be. Operations can kill player characters and will inflict lethal and punishing damage on those whom try to act without thinking.
