The Fifty-Ninth AOCAF Championship

Welcome to the fifty-ninth edition of the AOCAF Cup, hosted by Freeport and Chromatika. Please feel free to begin posting your RPs and rosters here in this thread. Please direct any OOC discussion to this thread.

Participants have been drawn into 6 groups of 6 teams and will play each nation in their group twice, once at home and once away, with all group stage matches taking place in the participating nations.

Group Stage
The AOCAF Cup 59 group stage will consist of each team playing the others in their group twice in a double round robin: once at home and once on the road. Freeport will scorinate the first half of the group stage (MDs 1-5) at approximately 11:00 PM EDT (03:00 UTC). Chromatika will scorinate the second half of the group stage (MDs 6-10) at approximately 10:30 PM PDT (04:30 UTC). The first team listed in each fixture is the home team.

Knockout Stage
The winners and runners-up from each group, as well as the four best third place teams, will qualify for the knockout rounds. Group winners will be seeded 1-6, runners-up will be seeded 7-12, and third place teams will be seeded 13-16. Teams may be reseeded in the second round to avoid group stage rematches; however, the bracket will not be reseeded in the quarterfinals or later matches. All knockout round fixtures will be held in venues throughout Freeport and Chromatika. Freeport will scorinate their matches at approximately 11:30 PM ET. Chromatika will scorinate their matches at approximately 10:00 PM PT.

Welcome to Freeport!

An archipelago nation located in southwestern Atlantian Oceania, the Confederation of Freeport is culturally distinct from nearby Equestria, despite sharing the latter's majority equine population. Freeport boasts a rather tumultuous history, being previously ruled in past centuries by undesirables such as slavers and necromancers, and having long served as a safe haven for criminal activity. Although Freeport has seen considerable reform in recent decades, first under the Council of Thirteen and most recently under Archon Sunset Shimmer, the island nation remains decidedly less idyllic than Equestria, despite it's tropical climate. The heart of the Confederation is the city-state of Freeport, a former safe port for smugglers and pirates, now a rapidly-modernizing metropolis.

Matches at the 59th AOCAF Cup will be hosted at four venues in Freeport, all located in the city-state's urban core.

Chromatika

Recent History: The Rainbow Revolution completed and gone, Chromatika is struggling to completely shed their old ways and embrace the new, the enigmatic Checkers Party causing all sorts of problems, a massive lawsuit still continuing between the Chromatik Football Federation and the said party, and a people who are not very fond of their government at the moment. With the Chromatik League folded, and no signs of it returning anytime soon, the Chromatik Football Federation threw in a hail mary with this bid to try to get back at the Checkers Party, show the peoples that they are still behind the wants of the crowd, and that Chromatik spirit will overcome any oppression.

Transportation: Chromatik highways aren't very wide - two lanes per side at most. There is a very expansive railroad system that was originally used for troop movement, but is now being refitted to serve the everyday citizen. Talks are underway of creating a subway system and a bus system in the bigger cities, but will be a few years down the road. The National Airport is also not very big, only serving regional flights. For the tournament, the nation will be accepting team planes to land, but it'd be best if you flew to Ramusok or Cathair first. Ferries run from the Islands of Myana and Urrhed to the main island on the hour.

Currency: The currency of Chromatika is the National Mark. The current rate is about 1.75 to 1 NSD, as the Chromatik economy is starting to make a comeback. Cost of living is rather low in Chromatika, as the government provides most things through taxes. A bottle of water costs o.8 NMS, a good meal about 6, and a new car around 22,000. Please come to Chromatika with all your currency changed to NSD. We don't provide exchange services from other currencies.

Climate: Chromatika is a rather cold nation, with the average temperature being 65 F in the summer and down to 11 F in the winter. The northern parts tend to be colder, while Myana and Urrhed tend to be a bit warmer. There is a temperate jungle in Eyrods where the temperature can spike up a bit more. It doesn't rain much, but snows a fair bit; winds don't gust that much, either. Climate-wise, it's a rather cold, boring, land.

Chromatik Venues by District/Islands

Capital District
Matches Hosted: Second Round, Championship Game

Alnio
Alnio is the technological capital of Chromatika, although it's right next to Chromatik City. Located just thirty-one miles East of Chromatik City, almost dead center of the Capital District, it is in Alnio that Black Raven Technologies is located. Alnio has lots of blue collar workers and used to be completely populated by Greens on the Chromatik Scale. The city is busy with a lot of recently educated Red, Orange, and Yellow, along with some of the Blue, Indigo, and Violets who wanted to be scientists there to learn as well.

Venue: RCK Field (Cap. 100,400)
RCK Field is a stereotypical football field in a nice stadium. The stadium surrounding the field has shopping malls built in it, and there is a huge food court as well. The Union used to call this place their home, and it is where Xi Xe started her career before stardom in Farfadillis.

Chromatik City
Chromatik City is the Capital of Chromatika and the seat of its government. The City is located ten miles east of the border with the Heartland and Deprí Districts, and some of the suburbs of the city spill into the other two districts. It is in Chromatik City that the Rainbow Revolution now holds its power, and where Alina Krasnikova rules as the Premier. It is also the site where most of the atrocities of the previous regime were committed, so it is a very historical and very conflicting site for most Chromatiks. It is the battleground between Krasnikova's government (she's been in power for about seven years now, and people are beginning to talk) and the Checkers Party, who are determined to throw Chromatika back to the pre-revolution days.

Venue: Capitalizt Dome, Chromatik City (Cap. 144,000)
The crowning jewel of Chromatika, and the national stadium where international matches are usually held. It's your typical big-team stadium, as both the Chromatik Capitalizt and Crossroads Crusaders used to play here. It is one of the few stadiums that are only used for football matches. The national collegiate finals and high school finals are held here, too.

Coastal District

Lhor
A tourist town in the east coast of Chromatika, became known as a place known for its nasty, defensive-minded, yet free-flowing football in the form of the Orcas. The Lhorites still love the game.

Venue: The Cove, Lhor (Cap. 51,265)
With a massive three-story aquarium directly below (don't worry, there's a ten-foot high first floor to buffer some of the noise), you can get the full experience of both football and aquatic life here. It also helps that there is a gigantic jumbotron of a screen on the north end.

Mountain District
Matches Hosted: Second Round, Quarterfinal 2

Felswyr
A town known for its ski resorts, a winter paradise. Felswyr is located about dead center of the Mountain District, right by Mt. Niai. It is known for tourism and for being the winter Capital of Chromatika.

Venue: Frozen Stadium, Felswyr (Cap. 32,100)
This stadium is mostly known for being 6,112 ft above sea level. The air is thin and cold, and wind chill can also be a factor. Thankfully, the tournament is being held in the summer, so temperatures should be a bit more mild. The Frost used to call this place their home venue. It is also where most of Chromatik Ice Hockey is played.

Z'ai'ai
Located at the Southeast corner of Chromatika, Z'ai'ai is seated by Mt. Kùrn, the highest point in Chromatika, with elevation of 17,254 ft. It is a rare place where you can experience the mountain and the ocean at the same time within an hour's drive. Pronounced 'Zee-aye-aye", it's also the cuisine capital of Chromatika due to the variety of ingredients that are available from both the mountains and the ocean. A lot of mining is done at Mt. Kùrn, and logging is also done on a sustainable level and sent to Deprí Sanar to be turned into furniture.

The home of the Mountaineers, and an iconic stadium that boasts the view of the ocean and of the mountain on a clear day. The pride of Z'ai'ai, and a beautiful sight.

Myana
Located on the Western side of Myana Island, Myana is the naval headquarters of Chromatika. The naval academy is here as well as most of the country's ships.

Venue: Island Dome, Myana (Cap. 133,000)
The Island Dome is located five miles from downtown Myana, towards the interior of the Island. It is in the shape of a boat to commemorate the naval forces, and there is a cannon that goes off every time the home team scores.

Urrheddiao
Located at the southernmost point of Urrhed, Urrheddiao is the seafood capital of Chromatika. It is here that most of the fishing fleets call home, and over 85% of the nation's fish is caught here.There is a fierce rivalry between Myana and Urrheddiao, as evidenced in Islanders vs. United in previous seasons.

Venue: United Center, Urrheddiao (Cap. 120,000)
Initially, United owners wanted the stadium to be right by the water. However, safety concerns over the huge tidal waves in the winter forced the stadium to be about fifteen miles off the coast. The stadium can be transformed into a place where a lot of the city can take shelter in in the event of a tsunami or a typhoon, as it sits at the highest point on the island.

Nellietopia is a very beautiful island country nestled in the heart of Atlantian Oceania. But you didn't come here to learn about Nellietopia (and if you did, look in the sig).

Exactly how and when the purple-stinging nellies emerged is unknown, but the fact is that they've been here for a very long time, forming part of the undiscovered fauna of the regions now encompassing Atlantian Oceania (and others...). The emergence of sentience was a much faster ride, only after most of the international order had been long established, and with that emergence, the first nation of Nellietopia was born - and pretty much ignored at first glance. In fact, most countries still ignore Nellietopia, and they're now smoldering piles of ash [Sorthern Northland]. Okay, seriously, it doesn't hurt most countries to acknowledge Nellietopian sovereignty, except that it's pretty much impossible to talk about nellies without going into a giggly fit about Nellie Scout merchandise - their secret power.

Former Schottia skipper, and assistant boss under Lionel Mah, he is a legendary figure back home. He served his apprenticeship during Schottia’s rise to the top of the World Rankings, and has witnessed success - and the sacrifices required – up close. He’s attack minded, but not gung-ho, and will assess the squad before making a decision. Now he has the mantle of the Marauders and will be asked to take the team from rebuilding to once again being a true contender for the World Cup and AOCAF in every edition that the squad enters.

Reiniger was an intelligent defender in his playing days with Crawford City FC and the idea of stepping away from the game after his playing retirement didn't sit well with him. Reiniger believes in strict discipline but in being fair, while also preferring to play a possession based defensive tactic, that takes advantage of the opposition when they overextend. Much was admired about his single-minded approach to playing the 'right way', but his lack of a Plan B sank him in the rough waters of the Nepharim Premiership. The VSC hopes that attitude and defensive prowess would be better utilized in a national team capacity.

His height, sheer natural athleticism, and profound reflexes have been put to the test both domestically and for the national teams. There are many glimpses of what could be a stand out keeper for the ages but there seems to be a lack of focus to keep that majesty going. Regardless, he has proven to be one of the better keepers in the Marauders recent history and is heads and shoulders above the competition for the number one jersey. If he were to only refine that focus, get more consistent, then the Marauders could lessen their worry about defense and get back to playing the free flowing attacking play that they made famous nearly eighty years ago.

Iben is a quick defender that typically plays on the right side for her the Rockers but can play more centrally if needed to. She is a quiet force that doesn't like to get forward unless she absolutely needs to, preferring to be that agile cover defender that allows the more offensive minded midfielders to get into the attacking area.

A fleet footed defender who doesn't get forward too often but is a decent crosser of the ball when he is forward and can occasionally get a solid header on goal. His recovery speed though is his greatest strength, for when attackers are able to get around him.

Eivind is a strong and steely defender with a bit of a no nonsense approach to the game and is known for some bone crushing tackles that somehow are always deemed to be clean by officials.

Weight: 159 lbs
After becoming a folklore hero for the lower class of the world, va Drake has made himself one of the living legends of the game after help leading the side to a title in World Cup 53. He has traveled far and wide while plying his trade, donning kits for no less than five countries' clubs. Seen as the driving force in the middle of the park alongside Hawk, it is up to the opposition to try and figure out how to deal with the brilliance the winger and his other attackers have rather than them to create magic.

6 Yuki Hatsune

This midfielder was born in the Sunrise Islands but came to Valanora at an early age and has really blossomed over the last five seasons to a versatile midfielder, though he prefers to play a little further up the pitch in a more attacking role. He's got an accurate shot from long range and can mix it up with most other players in the middle in those fifty-fifty balls, though he would prefer to leave that part of the game to the defenders and more defensive minded midfielders.

Words do not even begin to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day. Hawk simply strives to be the very best footballer, captain, and teammate that there can be, with the hunger for perfection driving him forth on and off the pitch.

8 Ilglerdiriel Lithvathar, Raynor City United

Weight: 149 lbs
Lithvathar is much like va Drake, a floater who is dynamic in attack but with enough speed and sense of the pitch to make up on any sort of defensive lapse. Yet unlike her flankmate, she is not nearly as skilled, but do not let that fool you, in a moment of magic she can undress an entire backline and set up more prolific scorers with easy chances.

7 Faeron Soldarian, 1830 Cathair

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 163 lbs
Soldarian continues to live in the shadow of more well known players both on the national team and with his club. Despite this, Soldarian is seen by all on the squad as the emotional leader and the linchpin the in the middle that allows the more attacking minded midfielders being allowed to play their game.

Having last been on the National Team as a Traveller – the term for young players who are seen as the future of the team and thus travel to the World Cup with the Bisons – Kio’los has made a name for himself back in Gyatso’kai. With his explosive energy and an unmatched focus, Kio’los is known for making saves most keepers would let slip through. Reminiscent of a younger Chu Takumi – who had 72 caps for the Bisons between World Cup 57 and 65 – Kio’los is hoping that, even at an age most players begin to think of retirement, he can still bring pride to his nation.

22- ZHAO Baoli
Height: 187cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 24 years old - Team: Enceri FC

Most often than not, a backup goalie is viewed as “damage control” for the starter; only called in when the starter has let in a few too many goals that shouldn’t have gone in, or is just not getting into the grove of the game quick enough for the coaches liking. With Zhao Baoli, that is not the case. Head Coach Tay’haai is not certain how either Kio’los or Zhao will do when facing their first multiverse opponents, and has opted for choosing two top caliber keepers to make his one-two combo.

What are the differences between Kio’los and Zhao? Despite their age – Zhao was only six years old the last time the Bisons played in the World Cup – there is hardly any difference between the two men. Similar style, similar background, even similar appearance; both your stereotypical Shoushan men who use their impressive physical forms to dominate in their chosen field. One key difference, however, lies in Zhao’s tendency to play medium-range passes incredibly accurately versus Kio’los’ short-range kicks; this accuracy at medium range helps to facilitate the progression of his team’s build-up into the next phase of play. Expect to see Zhao get more playing time as the Bisons face more defensive minded teams.

33- ARMOK Hikari
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 23 years old - Team: Southern AFC

Armok Hikari rounds out the Goalkeeper Corps, bringing a slightly different style to the Bisons. Fresh from his second season with Southern AFC, Armok has developed rather nicely when compared to his style back at his alma mater, University of Omashu.

Unlike Kio’los and Zhao, Armok tends to favor the long-range kicks out to midpitch so as to clear as much action from the back end as possible. Also, Armok is a much more traditional goalkeeper when compared to the very ball-heavy play styles of the first two men in the corps; he firmly believes that his primary goal is to stop balls from getting to the net, and by clearing out the attacking zone quickly, it gives him a chance to set the team up more defensively as he does tend to hand over possession often, but that allows him to focus on the main job of stopping balls and not worrying about diving out of the box and going for more ‘flashy’ plays.

As had been done under Vhett, Head Coach Tay’haai has instituted a Travelling Corps so as to bring young and upcoming players along with the Bisons to show them what Multiverse Play is all about. Pao and Hamada are both collegiate level players, who will likely be vying for a third spot in the Goalkeeper Corps as Kio’los is certainly not getting any younger. Lee is a much younger player, brought in from a developmental academy in KIbago Province, who is somewhat of a star in the Avatarian Soccer circle; having not let in a single goal in three seasons and representing his Academy at the national level.

2- Auranaq ITAWAKU
Height: 196cm - Weight: 82kg – Age: 35 years old - Team: Concord Dusk AFC
A beast of a man, Aruanq Itawaku has the distinction of being only one of two players on the Bisons who has ever travelled to a World Cup; both Aki Kio’los and Itawaku travelled with the Bisons back in World Cup 68.

In his time since that travelling appearance, Itawaku has managed to pack the form of a gridiron player into the body of a footballer; able to give strong tackles and bulldoze his way through an opponent, Itawaku is just as comfortable dancing around the pitch and keep the ball away from any keen and overzealous opponents. His aggressive style of play, combined with his sheer size, has earned him the loving nickname of “The Beast of the North”.

12- PAM Kai
Height: 183cm - Weight: 86kg – Age: 20 years old - Team: Senlin Timbers

The backup to the Beast of the North, Pam Kai is a bit smaller and significantly younger. Though, that doesn’t stop the younger Water Tribesman from doing his best to keep up with Itawaku in the weight room and out on the pitch. Pam carries with him youthful vigor and determination, although he forewent another year at Northern University to pursue his professional career; which, judging by a rather subpar performance in Senlin, has many analysts feeling that he may have made the jump to the pros a bit to soon.

16- TERCAR Shuajo

At 20 years of age, Tercar Shuajo plays a very similar style to Auranaq, which means substitutions into the team can be done effortlessly. A very quick and agile defender, Tercar is not expected to play any games during AOCAF, though he is still prepared should the need arise. Given he is nearly 10kg lighter than both Pam and Itawaku, Tercar has to use his feet and agility to outmaneuver most other players instead of relying on sheer mass to take away a ball.

5- HASHIMOTO Isamiru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 75kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Ba Sing Se UNITED
One of the most highly-rated player for the Bison defence, Hashimoto Isamiru, or “Hashi” as he is loving called by fans, has shown himself to be a very valuable asset to the team. A strong defensive player who often falls in to a full-back position, Hashimoto has made great strides in improving his passing and marking skills since he was traded to Ba Sing Se UNITED from Keldabe FC after a very disappointing season which saw Kelabe not advance to the playoffs for the first time in five years.

15- UTHAN A’den
Height: 185cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 19 years old - Team:Kyoshi State University

As was during the Bisons’ last World Cup run, Number 15 is worn by a man incredibly deceptive in appearance and performance. A large and physically imposing player, Uthan A’den does not play a very physical game like Aurnaq or Hashimoto, but instead proves himself to be one of the fastest players on the team; one who uses that speed to outpace and overtake many of his opponents. Less prove to tackle and trip, and more likely to simply run up from behind and steal the ball mid-dribble, expect to see Uthan engaging opponents closer to the net than you will be comfortable with from previous Bisons campaigns.

15- Ganham Ri’om
Height: 175cm - Weight: 70kg – Age: 23 years old - Team: Concord Dusk AFC
Though not as fast as Uthan, Ganham Ri’om is a full-back more focused on the offence, who uses his skill with the ball to often drive the offence from the backfield. Though Ganham can have some minor difficulties when tasked with defence (given that he played his entire career at Hatsu State as a offensive midfielder before switching to defence when drafted), he is a very edicated player and works hard to improve where he knows there are weakness.

While certainly not the oldest player in the defence, Somchai Kikwan does serve as the counterpoint to Uthan’s youthful excitement. Having graduated from Kyoshi State, Somchai is very familiar to the style of play Uthan is used to, and the two of them communicate very well on the side of the field. Very adept at playing the middle of the field, when pushed to the right side, Somchai is quick to adapt and has the endurance and stamina to keep up with the demands

A mixture of strength, speed and technicality, Mi’rez Yman is able to often outperform many oppoenets strictly through his quick feet and often amusing antics; known to make oppoenets laugh mid-stride, Mi’rez is not the player the media wants to mic up and have talk to the corwd. Though even with his quirks, Mi’rez is a very valuable players to the defensive corps.

Originally signed into the Taap-B team Kaolin FC right out of college, Huang Aodhán was quick to mature and found his way onto the Makapu ERUPT. A quick study, he adapted well to his new team and soon made it to their starting eleven. Huang is a natural athlete, with impressive speed and stamina to match, though at such a young age compared to his linemates, he has much to learn before he finds himself on the front lines of Avatarian Football.

The Travelling Corps for Defense is a mixed group of under-21s who are all potential future Bisons. Kato, from Enceri, is coming off a All-Star season in the Southern Islands Conference, having been credited with the most goals by any defenseman in season. Yamada and Ka’lomi are most first-time A-squad for their respective schools, and seem to play complementary styles, so it wouldn’t be unlikely to see them as a future starting pair. Adeen, though coming back from a lower body strain he acquired before his selection was announced, is the opposite of Ka’lomi; more defense driven and much more adept at wide pitch running and helping drive offense. Zhou, fresh from a rather disappointing season at KU, still managed to shine as he was selected in the Coaches Poll as the third best centreback in the ACSA having 32 Assists in 24 games

7- TAKAHASHI Hikaru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 76kg – Age: 31 years old - Team: Northern AFC
A strong defensive midfielder. Takahashi Hikaru’s strength lies in his kicks; easily able to send a ball soaring across the pitch with surprising accuracy, Takahashi is known for feeding the ball to the strikers and catching many opposing defences off-guard. He often has great vision, and he is easily able to read the play and can adapt accordingly.

6- MA Haijiang

Head Coach Tay’haai made the unusual selection of having both of his defensive midfielders come from the same team, for reasons most can ascertain. A proven veteran on the pitch, Ma Haijiang complements Takahashi’s strong kicks and accuracy with the speed to overcome most opponents; if he can not strike a ball deep, Takahashi will often send a volley up to Ma who will then run it into the offensive zone before lasering the ball to an open forward. Expect to see either Ma or Takahashi in the assist column for plenty of goals.

17- YOSHIDA Arata
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 26 years old - Team: Royal Flames

Yoshida Arata is a dedicated player who has worked incredibly hard to make his way to the national team; having spent several months training with one of the greatest Avatarian midfielders to ever play the game, Bralor Kotyc’e. Time spent with Bralor has proven to greatly improve his game, seeing Yoshida climb up the ranks during the Trials for the national team.

Though, Yoshida is not a player you will often notice. He is not one for showboating, and very rarely makes a goal or garnishes an assist. Instead, he focuses his time on the pitch by setting up the offense for a great pass, a decisive tackle that often swings the game’s momentum, or just being able to intercept the ball at the most opportune time. One of the best midfielders in the Southern Conference of the RPFL, Yoshida is sure to see time on the pitch by relieving Takahashi or Ma in the later games of the competition.

18- HISAKAWA Si Woo
Height: 183cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 28 years old - Team: Omashu Athletic (Taap-A)
An extremely technical midfielder, Hisakawa Si Woo is not one to shy away from trying for goals. More aept at reading the play and setting up his forwards, Hisakawa is a bit more impatient than one would like, and he posseses the speed and agility to run through a good defence and find the back of the net on occasion. He is also the only player on the Bisons who does not play for a RPFL team, and instead leads midfielders in Goals Scored for the Taap-A team Omashu Athletic; though, if AOCAF goes well, Hisakawa may find himself graduating to the big leagues as his contract with Omashu Athletic is up for renegotiations this season.

Attacking Midfielders:

8- YU Shichiro
Height: 183cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 24 years old - Team: Keldabe FC

With a very offensive-minded footballing style, Yu Shichiro works as the last link between the midfield and the offence. Much like Hisakawa, Yu has been known to even advance from the midfield to score quite a few key goals in pivotal games, including the 2019.2 Ve’vut Cup winning goal against Concord Dusk AFC. He has a powerful long shot and is exceptional at heading, both of which are aided by his height. However, as skilled as he is in offense, Yu still prefers to pass the ball up to forwards for an assist in a goal as opposed to being the star player.

11- GUANYU Jun

A very creative midfielder, Guanyu Jun is very capable of making plays on the fly; with great vision and quick feet, he often can set up his forwards for a great goal or keep the ball moving through the middle. Though still at Heibai University, set to graduate after AOCAF, there are quite a few offers on the table from RPFL teams all around, though in a recent interview, Guanyu was quoted as hoping to nab a MultiVerse contract from another AO nation....

14 – Fei’kao SONG
Height: 185cm - Weight: 81kg – Age: 20 years old - Team: FC Mando
Relatively young when compared to his teammates, Fei’kao Song chose to forgo his collegiate career, getting drafted by FC Mando the day before his twentieth birthday. Despite all the fanfare of his first season behind him, Song has not had a promising start to his sophomore season. Given his still-developing skills in midfield, his is seen as a comparatively weak player and often spends more time with the coaching staff than other more-seasoned players. Song, much like Hisakawa, is a technical player by nature whose greatest asset is not in his aim or power, but in the art of dribbling which he uses at every opportunity. While more prone to provide assists on plays as opposed to goals, Song has proven himself through Trials to Tay’haai and earned a spot on the National Team, albeit a reserve position.

Mostly comprised of Water Tribesmen, the Midfield Travelling Corps is a grabbag of talent. From the University of the Northern Tribes come home-grown Inoue Anernerk, who at just like his father, the famed Inoue Kuruk, completed back-to-back double-digit scoring seasons in his last two seasons of college; impressive for a man who is supposed to be on the defensive midfield. From UST, Kal Itowa mirrors the success of Inoue, though a career less filled with goals and more with assists. Penlu Saito, a young player from the developmental Chomain State Academy, hopes to see a professional contract within the year, and with such a great season in the ADFL, you can be sure he will at least entertain some good offers. Out of the University of Kibago, Shao Mi’ka is a relatively quiet player who has had offers from both Gaoling Union and Senlin Timbers. Dik Up’lis rounds out the Travelling Corps, bringing from Omashu State a drive for excellence many teams would love to have, even if it comes with a bit more maturing to be fostered.

AOCAF Squad Announced

With the Cup of Harmony in the rear view mirror the national will now look forward to our home region's tournament in the form of AOCAF. For the inaugural appearance of Timuria into the competition, manager Bekir Altingunes has seemingly earned the trust of the Football Federation with the rumoured pressure on him being lifted for this tournament to allow him room to experiment with his selection and try to find the solution to the team's defensive issues. With expectations slightly tempered due to the new faces in the starting XI, the national team and the country at large will simply seek to enjoy the competition in what is arguably the best sporting region in the multiverse.

The kits will now be familiar to many, but in case people have forgotten our home, away and goalkeepers kits respectively:

Coaching Staff:

Manager: Bekir Altingunes
Age: 46
Bio: Bekir Altingunes is a man whose star is very much rising, the former disgraced Agriculture Minister has carved out a reputation for being a player's manager and an astute media performer. From a strong Baptism of Fire, to a surprising showing in the World Cup Qualifiers, to a mixed yet impressive campaign in the Cup of Harmony. He is known to favour the 4-2-3-1 formation with an attacking outlook that has left an often disorganised and overmatched defence exposed. His challenge at this tournament will be to show that he has a grip on the team's defensive struggles and to show that the occasional disgruntled player remains the aberration and does not become the rule. He will also be boosted by the fact that the Football Federation has decided to give him a six year extension, though there will be very little incentive to keep him if he flounders, allowing him to prepare his so called "Six Year Plan" for not just the national team, but for all of Timurian Football.

Assistant Manager: Senol Tarimcioglu
Age: 61
Bio: A statistician turned Director of Football at Hisar, he has turned out to be an essential part of Bekir's staff, with his personnel insights proving invaluable in providing the national team with the best talent available despite a severe lack of sample size. An often underrated element of his role is the tactical insights he provides the manager during the matches with several of the best substitutions and tactical shifts being accredited to him by the manager. While his age is certainly advanced he has not indicated at all that he'd look to leave either his club or his national team role and is said to be on the committee looking for staff to be hired as the national team seeks to expand its operation.

Age: 20
Positions: GK
Bio: With the freshening of the squad, Iskender Nur represents something of a known commodity among the younger players being given an opportunity to shine at this AOCAF. His predecessor as the starting goalkeeper will be able to step in if starting proves to be overawing for him, but he has shown that he's more than capable of marshaling the defence and providing excellent shot-stopping.

12. Saban Inekci (Hisar FK) Caps: 14

Positions: GK
Bio: The former incumbent as the starting goalkeeper has had his share of struggles, often failing to gel with the defence put in front of him and plagued by unforced errors. He hasn't been helped by his defence as much as he deserved and in Bekir Altingunes' quest to strike the right formula on the defensive side of the ball he was an obvious, if slightly unfortunate candidate for relegation to the bench.

23. Murat Yigithan (Uryanspor) Caps: 0
Age: 27
Positions: GK
Bio: With Hasan Kocaeli's advancing years and a desire to evaluate new talent, Bekir Altingunes and Senol Tarimcioglu needed to identify a potential third goalkeeper who could help balance the squad and provide competition. They seem to have done so with the consummately professional Uryanspor goalkeeper who demonstrated both sound handling and a commanding presence when he takes to the field. The former lumberjack will be unlikely to see the field, but his selection could pave a path to being part of the squad come the next World Cup Qualifiers.

Age: 25
Positions: DL
Bio: One of the new faces in the squad, placed straight into the starting XI, he's a solid left-back who Bekir Altingunes is trusting to replace an incredibly consistent performer in the form of Ozbek Sarikaya who has been dropped from the squad, due in part to fitness issues and the desire to refresh the team with new players in the quest to resolve the team's well publicised defensive issues.

3. Eyup Mustafa (Almat JK) Caps: 19 Goals: 0
Positions: DC, DR
Age: 28
Bio: Capable of playing both as a full back and a centre back, as the more technically gifted of the centre backs he will be lining up on the left side of the pairing. He has found little in the way of stability in terms of who his partner is at international level, but he has almost never played seriously below par when the rest of the defence is clicking.

4. Levent Ahmedoglu (Demirspor) Caps: 0 Goals: 0
Positions: DC
Age: 22
Bio: Another new player in the squad, fast tracked to the starting XI. There has been much less stability at the centre back spot and so his place as a starter will be considered far less controversial. There are questions as to whether he will be able to cope at international level having played as a defender in a much more attacking system than even the one deployed by Bekir Altingunes. That being said no one doubts his quality as a no nonsense defender who isn't afraid to get physical.

5. Gokdeniz Dag (VC) (Uryanspor) Caps: 26 Goals: 0
Positions: DR
Age: 25
Bio: A regular and solid performer for the national team he will miss the presence of his teammate Ozbek Sarikaya on the opposite flank, however known to be a professional and positive influence across the squad he will be relied on to guide his new partner down the right flank and the right-sided centre back, both new to the squad. He will be looking to improve upon his solid, if unremarkable performances and showcase that he can be a leading player rather than a simply reliable one.

13. Osman Hasanoglu (Hisar FK) Caps: 20 Goals: 1
Positions: DC
Age: 31
Bio: Having been a part of some of the most suspect performances by the Red Wolves defence, he has finally seen consequences after (perhaps unfairly) being considered the source of a lot of those problems. He remains on the squad as he can bring a physical presence that is capable of seeing out matches, but it's very clear his star has faded in the mind of Bekir Altingunes.

15. Metin Boz (Uryanspor) Caps: 14 Goals: 0
Positions: DC
Age: 30
Bio: Having occasionally taken a starting position as well as being a priority defender, he might feel a little aggrieved to be kept on the bench during all of the reshuffling of the defence. That being said even if he is unhappy, he has never given the coaching staff any reason to doubt him and his experience at club level as captain of Uryanspor means his presence on the training field is almost always positive.

18. Beyhan Enver (Almat JK) Caps: 8 Goals: 0
Positions: DL, DR
Age: 26
Bio: A versatile player able to play in both full back positions, he may have been held back by his versatility which makes him an invaluable asset from the bench. Slightly more athletic than either of the incumbents starting in the position and technical enough that he can contribute to a positive passing game, he provides a lot of value from the bench and will be looking to impress as much as possible.

20. Yildiray Sabuktiginoglu (Kilicspor) Caps: 4 Goals: 0
Positions: DC, DL, DR
Age: 26
Bio: A gritty, determined player who has not seen very much of the field for the national team, but has shown large amounts of leadership and flashes of quality as he's played across all defensive positions at club level. Yet another player whose versatility has held them back, Yildiray is the ultimate depth player, a jack of all trades defender who prefers to sit as a centre back but is almost better in the full back positions which he doesn't specialise in.

Bio: Easily recognisable with his long flowing black hair and long beard, both of which flow as he endlessly runs up and down the pitch in the role of a box-to-box midfielder. Some have questioned his discipline and wonder whether he is a liability when his temper gets the better of him, but Bekir Altingunes clearly believes the positives outweigh the negatives.

He is a very technical player who shows that his main talent is getting the job done. His determination makes him a valuable asset in such an intense and high pressing system.

Five-time World, six-time Regional, two-time Under-21, one-time Under-18 and one-time Olympic Men's Football champions Starblaydia will line up for their 64th participation in the multiverse's oldest and most prestigious competition. They're looking to build on the Quarter-Final appearance of four years ago and live up to their 11th spot in the rankings.

To achieve this, manager Ázëwyn Fëanáro has mixed her core team of tried and trusted individual with the best of the youth squads she has been bringing through since taking command of the entire national team setup. Players who were in the two Under-18 World Cup Finals - with one loss and one victory to their name - have been making steady progress of breaking into this team and it won't be long before almost all of this side have tasted glory in a Starblaydia shirt. The aim, however, is not just to win junior tournaments, but to win senior ones again, as Starblaydia aim for the pinnacle of the world and an unprecedented sixth World Cup championship. They're a side that almost any team in the competition will fear, but they're not mentioned in the bracket of favourites quite yet.

He sat on Starblaydia's bench for the entirety of the previous World Cup campaign, but after Ollarion's weak AOCAF 58 tournament, Leopoldi has been given the nod and kept goal all the way to the World Cup 83 Final

The wing wizard, a blur of bright orange boots and so often sprinting down the touchline or cutting inside to head for goal, the former Overdrive youngster was given the captain's armband for the Under-18s and it proved to be an excellent decision. With this, Ázëwyn Fëanáro got Krakowski to play the role of a key and skilled component among a greater whole, leading by example like all great Starblaydi captains. Now moving into the senior side, he has made the left side of the pitch his own as he continues to improve. A few more goals from this man will really help fill out the natural threat that his speed brings.

Cole is a lethal forward and devilish assist-provider, playing with cunnning intelligence that just makes the opposition furious, and has made him the top-scoring human male in Starblaydi international history, one of just eight beings to score half a century for the team in white and purple.

McCloud is fast, strong and has a great left foot to strike from all distances and angles. The sky's the limit with this kid and he's already fully entrenched as the golden boy of Starblaydi football.

11. Alan Eccleston, SC, 26 - Tuncastle Rovers

Some strikers don't need to score hatfuls of goals, because they cause so much disruption and create chances and open up opportunities for others to score, and Eccleston is one of those. Not through trickery or guile, but through sheer presence and physical bloody-mindedness, he draws players and often requires two markers, shrugging off weak challenges as he does. A smashmouth style means he commits fouls almost as often as he draws them, however. He'll be a target man right down the middle of the park throughout, opening up a simple dimension that Starblaydia don't usually try.

His conversion rate isn't all that good, but just when the fans are thinking that their striker should have a pop at goal, he's the one who'll be stepping up to do it.

Always a fringe player, this time Ardouin made it in over the likes of Aandal and Varela. Aminey's single selection, who thought it'd ever be a defender?
16. Quentin Seoane, RB (31y) -

Miradela GD
Still on the team, even though this spot would have gone to a centreback if possible. Seoane represents Miradela's immense spell, and deserves a spot based on that.
17. Emmé Escoffier, LB (27y) -

Straudum
Just as you think Straudum runs out of quality defenders, there is another one that is NT-ready. Escoffier isn't expected to get much time on the field, but with Brogley finally out, there is a vacuum and Escoffier was good enough right on time.

7. Reizo Yokota, DM (29y) -

Katashi-Kanatsu
Once again, Yokota is the prime defensive midfielder. He knows the system and his teammates better than anyone, also on a personal level, and enjoys excellent rapport with everyone.
8. Saushilu Janoreirinthen, CM (24y) -

Maethoru SC
Watch out, there are scores of talented Di Bradini Cup graduates in contention for this position. The 5-3-2 lives on forever, but the best XI of the archipelago would play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2.
10. Maximilien Longchambon, AM (23y) -

Tanques AOE
There is no more creative player than him, so he is the rightful selection for this position and likely will remain there for the next decade. He is a magician to his teammates and opponents.
18. Jochi Murakami, AM (23y) -

Advance Alara
A member of the incredible Alara team that has finally landed UICA football. Murakami is the quick, shifty midfielder there that finds open spots and sets up the strikers, but rarely creates something out of nothing.
19. Cornelious Magrath, CM (22y) -

Miradela GD
Another Miradela player, and for good reason. Magrath glues the team together like nothing else, and lacking a defence, Magrath has plenty of passing to do in a possession-based 'if we have the ball, they can't score' team.
20. Cole Train, DM (21y) -

Tanques AOE
The Coal Train is reportedly unhappy at Tanques, even though they've scouted him as the immense talent he is.

9. Mata Vaugrenard, SS (24y) -

Vaugrenard plays with an arrogant air that puts off many teammates and opponents. Even then, it's hard to ignore just how well he reads the game and how powerful his shots on goal are.

Big factor in Katashi's improving attacking play. Strikers come and go in the Ko-orenite team, it's not a focal position for us, so Olio has a lot to prove.

The best attacker in the league for the second year running, and last season's top scorer finally makes it on as a fringe player. His ruthlessness in front of goal will likely see him receive some minutes, but the pressure is on immediately.

Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 217 games, as of the end of World Cup 82. The national team has participated in 8 World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80, WCQ82) and played in the past three World Cups- World Cup 80, World Cup 81, and World Cup 82. We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in three different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, and CoH 71). In three Cup of Harmonies, Banija has never once moved past the group stage in the competition, and in their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point. In World Cup 80, Banija was eliminated in the group stages, though in World Cup 81, Banija won Group A and went to the Round of 16 before falling in extra time, on home soil, to Turori by a score of 1-1(2-1 AET). in World Cup 82, Banija won its opening game 3-1 before losing its next two games, its last one in heartbreaking fashion to Pasarga to be eliminated in the group stages.

The team has been on its best run in the last three World Cup cycles. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages. They peaked at the last regional championships, reaching the final of AOCAF LVIII before falling to bitter archrivals and World Cup 83 co-hosts, Equestria, by a score of 4-2 on home soil .

The team's trophy cabinet is bare, having never won any international competition- though the national team won bronze medals earned at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships and silver medals at AOCAF LVIII, both on home soil.

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 0-6-0(W-L-T).

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals.

2. Eshan. Banijan all time record against opponent: 3-2-1(W-L-T)

Banija's other major rival is Eshan. Another regional rivalry, it doesn't carry quite the same weight as the Equestrian States, but they've played four high stakes competitive matches against each other, all in the same cycle. In World Cup 79 Qualifying, the two nations were in the same qualification group. Banija had an upset win in the first half of qualifying that vaulted them into serious discussions about making the final tournament, only to fall on the return trip, which effectively eliminated them from attending World Cup 79. And in the ensuing AOCAF LV tournament, they were drawn into the same group, and Eshan easily embarassed the Banijans, winning 5-1.

The draw did not seem to favor the Banijans, as the pair were drawn together in the ROund of 16. This time, it was the Banijans who got the last laugh. After a thrilling 4-4 draw, the Banijans won on penalties and advanced to the quarterfinals of their first AOCAF, an overwhelming success. While they have not played each other since AOCAF LV, on a competitive or on a friendly basis, the rivalry is still an important one for many fans of the Kadongo Kamu.

The rivalry was renewed when the two teams were drawn against each other in World Cup 82 Qualifying, with the pair of nations favorites to compete for the group's 2nd qualifying spot, with Brenecia widely favored to win their World Cup Qualification group. Banija won the first match in Busukuma, while they drew on the return leg, as Banija clinched the World Cup Qualification spot as Eshan did not qualify for the World Cup Finals.

Select Player Biographies

1. CAM Namakula Kawesa

Namakula Kawesa is one of the most interesting players to follow on this team. She is the first woman to ever put on the green and white for the senior national side, the first beneficiary of the repeal of the gender segregation law within the country. Implementation has been slow, as there are only a handful of female players in the BSL right now, but the rise in change of culture is always slow. Still, she has smashed that glass ceiling on her own, and Kawesa is looking to ensure that she is well respected on the national and international stage.

With her platform comes great expectation, and with great expectation comes great pressure. So far, she has been able to handle it. She scored crucial goals at AOCAF LVIII en route for the Banijan run to the final of that tournament, as she came off the bench behind Okparro. She did the same at World Cup 83, playing crucial minutes there as well. She was able to earn herself attention in the transfer market, and now she plays for the Gwinevra Barbarians. She has shown her talent for the Barbarians, scoring seven goals in the league and 11 in all competitions in her first season for the Barbarians, where she was a regular fixture in their starting XI, and helped the team get 2nd in the league and earn a Champions Cup berth, as well as scoring in the Marshall Cup Final, which is Apox's major domestic cup competition. She has performed at expectation in Apox.

And now, of course, with Okparro's retirement, she has been handed the #10 jersey for the national team. This is a big moment for her, as she is now a full-time starter for the Kadongo Kamu. It's not like the other open positions in the starting lineup, where Waters hasn't given out the #7 or #9 spot, showing that he hasn't decided on a long-term striker or right-winger- this spot is hers. Will she rise to the challenge of being the Banijan #10?

2. CB Kawsu Kaba

The center back has been excellent in his appearances for the Hoima Warriors in the BSL, with his past domestic season earning him plaudits from many around, and him just missing out on a spot on the All-Pro Team. The problem with Kaba, while extremely talented, is that, especially for hte national team, he lacks consistency. HE has been benched on numerous occasions by Marcus Waters, though he always goes back to Kaba to start a game, and play a majority of the match. Then 35 year old Center Back Abate Brehanu, however, repeatedly replaced Kaba defending big leads in big moments, illustrating the lack of the confidence in him.

But now, Brehanu has retired following the national team's bronze medals at World Cup 83, and there will be nowhere to hide for Kawsu Kaba. Ensa Camara and Brehanu have retired, and now, it will be Kaba leading the back line. The other two center backs on the roster, 19 years old Demba Kinteh and 22 year old Kuma Bultum do not have any national team experience, leaving Kawsu Kaba as the undisputed leader of the back line. How will he react to that? He is seen as the key for this new look squad. While the offense has a lot of fresh faces, the talent level is expected to be high enough that chemistry will happen naturally. The same is not true on the back end. Can he finally put together consistent performances in the back, and stabilize the back line for Marcus Waters and really ensure that this team are contenders? OR will his struggles lead to an early exit for Banija? Lots of pressure on this young man, and it will be fascinating to see how he responds.

3. LW Gitonga Kahara

With the retirements of Chibuzo Afolayan and Assefa Yitebarke from the national team, the boy wonder is the undisputed star of the Kadongo Kamu, and has long been hailed as the savior of the sport in this country. That tells you everything you need to know about the Boy Wonder's meteoric rise through Banijan soccer. He has been given lots of nicknames- the Boy Wonder, Banija's Football Savior, the Deliverer, etc... And he has never played a professional club game on Banijan soil. When he was just 16 years old, he moved to Project Olimpo in Kita-Hinode, and starred in their youth league, one of the world's best. Project Olimpo won a league title, and Gitonga Kahara was the star of the team, winning the Golden Boot that season. He then, of course, went to the U21 World Cup as the player everybody had their eyes on- was he the real deal?

The answer was an emphatic yes. Gitonga Kahara, and the team in general, simply could not stop scoring in Valanora. He scored a stunning 10 goals at the Di Bradini Cup- taking the tournament by storm, and being not only the best player on the pitch for the Banijans, but arguably the best player on the pitch at the tournament in general. His value, and name, exploded on the international scene. Randolf Cherry, much to the chagrin of Project Olimpo officials, was pushing him to leave before the window- see what he'd do in a top-flight league, while his value was high with the memory of the Di Bradini Cup fresh. Of course, during the window, he'd be able to probably get a better deal. But the fact of the matter was this- a move was better for his immediate career prospects, even if it was a serious question mark for his long-term career prospects.

He went to Polaris, in the Terranean League East. He helped lead his team earn the Pablito Numede Trophy, and, with a third place finish, finish with a berth in the Champions Cup. He looked likely to be a star in that league for a long, long time to come- and then, it came crashing down, as the Terrenean League East has faltered. He then made a big money move to OAS Royal FC, becoming the first ever Banijan to make an 8 digit move, being valued at $10 million NSDs by the side from Northeast Atlantian Oceania.

He is in his prime, and now, this is his team. Kahara is going to wear the armband going forward, for the first time at any level in his career. While the 23 went unchanged from the beginning of AOCAF LVIII, through the Champions Cup and all the way through World Cup 83, there has been a correction, with quite a few veterans calling it quits on their international careers, leaving time for the next generation to shine. There are 8 changes in the squad from World Cup 83, and with longtime strike partners Afolayan and Yitebarke, he is the undisputed leader and focus of the Banijan attack. Can he handle the pressure and do what has long been destined of him- deliver a championship to Banijan shores?

4. CAM Sia Fall

The "do everything" man for the Kadongo Kamu, somehow, is back again. Sia Fall is a winger by trade, but in his long term of service for the national team and his time in the Banijan Soccer League, it has seen him play all over the pitch. The man who got replaced by Gitonga Kahara finds himself, once again, in the conversation for playing on the national team by again being willing to play in a position of need, the backup attacking midfielder. Many pundits agree that Fall is not on the roster for his ability with his feet, but for his veteran leadership. He is an experienced player with plenty of caps, and with a large number of veterans retiring for the Kadongo Kamu, it is unsurprising that Marcus Waters wants to bring on an extra veteran presence for a major tournament where the team has high aspirations.

He has had an interesting international journey. He has been on the scene since the national team's return to WCC competition in World Cup 79, and was an important member. However, an ACL injury towards the end of World Cup 79 Qualifying saw his starting spot taken from him, and when Gitonga Kahara burst onto the scene after a stunning Di Bradini Cup for World Cup 80 Qualifying, he was quickly made an afterthought, with the last time he made the final 23 of a national team being AOCAF LVI. However, he kept his head down and continued to work on his craft, even playing central midfield at times for his club in order to do whatever was best for them. HE has versality, and above all, the willingness to sacrifice for the best of his club. And now, when the country is short of quality attacking midfielders to back up Kawesa, he got the call.

Many years away from the national side has given him a new burst, and he is appreciative of the opportunity. However, while most observers agree that he is here for veteran leadership and stability on a young squad, he wants to play. He understands more than most how rare it is to get the opportunity to play for your country, and he wants to make the most of his return. He knows this is the last chance, as well- Marcus Waters is unlikely to call upon his services for World Cup 84 Qualifying, considering he'll be 35 at the time. Will he get a chance to see the pitch over what will be a long group stage campaign? Will he perform when he does get that chance? And, in his last opportunity to suit up for the national team, will he finally get a chance to lift that trophy at the end of this tournament?

Sandt is the younger brother of legendary Stars goalkeeper Horace Sandt. He won the starting job for the Wanderers as a true freshman and led a previously downtrodden side to the national semifinals. He has catlike reflexes and is quick off his line. Can get too aggressive.
29 Glen Baker, 18, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, University of Nicksia
Baker won three state championships in his four years in high school. He earned the starting job midway through the college season and finished with a 5-2-2 record with a 0.87 goals against average.

3 Carlette Taylor, 20, 5-foot-4, 134 pounds, unaffiliated
Taylor is a rugged defender who often marks players who outweigh her by at least 50 pounds and are at least four inches taller. She makes up for lack of speed with positioning and reading her opponent's runs.
5 Ian McKinley, 18, 5-foot-9, 168 pounds, Somerset University
McKinley plays fullback for Somerset University, but will play a sweeper role for the Stars after the loss of sweeper Clyde Gustafsson to a torn ACL.

The younger brother of Carlette Taylor, John plays a similar style to his sister's, although with much more speed.
18 Carlos Arroyo, 20, 6-foot, 200 pounds, Real Portsmouth (Sarzonian third division team)
A reserve sweeper for the Stars, Arroyo starts for Real Portsmouth in that position after converting from fullback. Notched three assists in 12 matches.
32 Brett Mabry, 19, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, Woodstock Wild Reserves
Mabry earned a starting position with the Wild Reserves after initially making the parent side out of training camp. However, the Wild engineered a trade that brought them an all star defender who took minutes away from Mabry.
44 Pat Meyers, 20, 5-foot-8, 152 pounds, unaffiliated
Meyers won a lawsuit against the Portland Timbers third division affiliate when the team dismissed them after successfully proving the club released them due to their gender non-conforming status. The technical director responsible for the decision was fired two weeks after the verdict. Meyers plays mostly halfback but can also pitch in at fullback if necessary.

Ross is a defensive midfielder who was called upon to play more of an offensive role after injuries decimated the parent club and forced call ups. Can be used in the back line if needed.

Kemp was just released from his contract with Wilmington Wanderers, a fourth division side, when a transfer offer to a third division side fell through. He also plays a defensive midfield role although he has better speed and ball handling ability than most defensive midfielders in Sarzonia.

A grandson of legendary Stars forward Brian Wilson and great-grandson of coach Dave Wilson, Clayton is not just a fourth generation star among the Stars, he's also the playmaker for the Under 21 Stars and is a sterling wing player on the Wild.
12 Edwin Campbell, 20, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Wilmington Wanderers
Campbell comes to the Under 21 edition of the Stars at the recommendation of Kemp. He brings size and strength to attacking runs that also present deceptive speed and on-ball skills.
14 Joanie Rhys, 19, 5-foot-5, 140 pounds, Woodstock Justice reserves
Joanie signed a contract with the Justice right after high school after leading her scholastic league with 18 goals in 12 matches played. Her speed is unmatched at her level, but she needs to learn to adapt to equally fast players at the international level.
13 Nestor Royce, 19, 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, Saugerties Snakes
Royce earned a starting job with the Snakes as a midfielder and scored seven goals in 18 matches before injuries derailed him.

Benignati can provide depth at defensive midfielder and has played fullback for his high school. Played halfback during a televised contest for Portland Junior College.

Starfire is a manager who excels at getting the most out of whatever she's given, regularly keeping the Ponyville Galaxy from relegation with a keen eye for tactics and seemingly boundless optimism that keeps spirits up in the locker room. Starfire was Moon Dust's long-time student as an assistant coach at Ponyville United and pundits tend to think more highly of the pegasus than her club's place in the table might suggest. She has been largely popular so far as the Islander manager, and with her World Cup 83 Qualifying success, the nation's only manager will be extended through the World Cup 84 cycle.
Senior Assistant Manager: Yamma Mbye. 40 years old, doubles as the new executive director of the Busoga Islands Regional Youth Academy. Spent the twilight of her professional career when she was part of a wave of Banijan female players that went to the Equestrian States, playing for the Manetreal Impact. Just announcing her retirement from the playing scene at 36, she was hired quickly by Starfire to be the Assistant Manager, and they had a good working relationship at the latest AOCAF. She said that connections they shared within the Equestrian States, as well as her own connections in the Busoga Islands, would allow her to be an 'invaluable asset' for the transition.

Select Player Biographies

1. CB Marie Sonko

The heart and soul of this team, the man who has long been a legendary footballer in this country, Delbin Kasekende, the goalkeeper, retired after the previous Cup of Harmony. He played for local club Dukuma SC for many years, and then changed to Herzegovina City FC, where he established almost a vice grip on the BSL Golden Glove award, as well as winning a host of league titles under Brian Emerson and being one of few men to be captain for both his club and his country. Not an easy feat, and he was the country’s inaugaural captain- even after having played in a World Cup for another side.

Kasekende, however, is 39 years old, and retired from national team duties when the Busoga Islands were eliminated by Saltstead at the Cup of Harmony. However, while sad for him, the show must go on. The armband was passed to an obvious contender- Marie Sonko, the center back who plys her trade in the Equestrian States. The Northern Moravica grad has long played for Everfree Forest HC in the Equestrian States, manning the center back position for the club. Denied an opportunity to play in her home country while Banija’s sports gender segregation laws were on the books, she has stayed loyal to the club that has given her the opportunity to play in the top flight, declining an opportunity to go to Lakiska SC and stick it out at Everfree Forest.

Her captaincy has certainly been successful. During World Cup 83 Qualifying, the Busoga Islands rode to unforeseen heights, where they were able to, quite shockingly, qualify for the playoffs, and do well enough in the first two games to control their own destiny heading into the last playoff game, against Chromatika. While they could not take the final step and qualify for the Finals, many believe that the regionals are their opportunity to finally break into the knockout stages of a major tournament.

2. RB Berihu Abeselome

With the retirement of Kasekende, Abeselome is now the oldest player in the Starting XI. Beyond that, he's the only player on this squad who has been to a World Cup, being on the World Cup 80 squad for Banija, though he did not get any minutes in that tournament.

He's spent the majority of his professional career playing in the Crystal Empire, starting for Crystalopolis City, regarded by many as the class of the United League. He was an obvious choice to be one of the key players on this squad- Starfire has seen him play, up close, as she has managed Ponyville Galaxy. He is now the alternate captain for the team. While it is unlikely he will ever wear the armband for the national team, he is one of the squad's most passionate players, and helps provide stability in the back.

He will be a threat, and a force, for the team. Now, of course, at age 33, he is much less of an attacking threat- which means that there will be less counter-attacking from this side in general. But still, the wily veteran wing back is expected to both be and remain a dominant force on the back line for the Busoga Islands, as they attempt to keep climbing up those World Cup rankings.

Lakiska City Field

The stadium is located in the nation's capitol, and the largest city on the South Island. It has a capacity of 31,000, and is host to Lakiska Sporting Club, the only team from the Busoga Islands in the Banijan Soccer League.

Orange Field

The stadium is located in the country's largest city, Dukuma, and is on the North Island. it has a capacity of 17,000, and it is host to Dukuma Sporting Club, who competes in the Banijan Northwestern League, one of four regional leagues in the second tier of the Banijan/Busogan pyramid, and who are the reigning champions of the RBSA Cup.

The Hapilopper National Football Team is a relative newcomer to the world of international sport, but recently made quite a name for itself in the 70th running of the Baptism of Fire, a tournament for first-time national teams. That initial run was quite a shock to Hapiloppian observers, considering association football's standing in the pecking order of Hapiloppian sport, well behind auto racing, baseball, gridiron football, and wrestling. Under manager and head coach Thom Perkins, the Hapiloppians went undefeated in the entire Baptism of Fire, on the strength of loud, obnoxious play, physical defending and bold promises often kept. The team made quite a name for itself in qualifying for the 83rd World Cup. While they were not successful in their qualifying efforts, they sure came close, and a lot closer than a lot of people expected. The HNFT comes into the AOCAF looking to make a great showing for themselves.

MANAGER/HEAD COACH: Thom Perkins
Perkins, 53, was recently named the manager of the national team, and is known for his ability to rally a team together. The former manager of The Soldiers, Perkins rallied the troops together a year ago to help The Soldiers score the HFA Championship. Perkins likes to rely on an attacking form of football, and will likely rely on the 4-2-3-1 formation for most of the time. Perkins has received a vote of confidence following his ability to bring together players, some of whom didn't particularly care for each other, en route to victory in the Baptism of Fire and a great showing in qualifying for the World Cup.

The Fans:
Typically, Hapiloppian fans, including the members of the "Traveling Thrashers" supporters group are among the wildest fans in sport, and promise to be exactly that for the World Cup. Expect to see fans dancing along to 1970s funk music, slamming drums as loudly as possible, waving their flags, and throwing streamers for every Hapiloppian goal. Hapiloppians like to have fun and they'll find ways to get under the opposing team's skin, within reason, of course. They travel well, they make the most of it, and they'll make your Cup of Harmony a memorable one, in a good way.

These uniforms, as seen here, are the HNFT's designated regular season kits. Should Hapilopper, by some miracle, make the knockout stage of the World Cup, the team will unveil a gaudier, livelier uniform for its team to wear. These uniforms, the "playoff specials," are a Hapiloppian sports tradition, and a tradition held very dear since the early 1970s when the West Hampton Royals introduced the "playoff special" to the Hapiloppian sports culture.

#1 | Cooter Harris | Hapilopper City Soldiers | Goalkeeper
Cooter Harris, the captain of the Hapilopper National Football team, is the last line of defense for The Soldiers of Hapilopper City, the top team in Hapiloppian football. Considered the most effective goalkeeper in the top level of Hapiloppian football, Harris registered a remarkable one goal allowed per 175 minutes of play in last year’s HFA Championship, which helped The Soldiers win the title last year. Away from the pitch, Harris enjoys going off-roading in his 1979 Major M-200 pickup truck, hunting and listening to country music. (NOTE: Harris has been removed from the HNFT following an outburst during the Hapilopper-Equestria match)

#30 | Rod Hughes | United Hampton Cities | Goalkeeper
Rod Hughes, the second-string goaltender for the national team, is a strong figure in front of the net, and is also a strong figure to keep the team motivated. Hughes registered one goal allowed per 143 minutes last year.

#2 | Nick Seward | United Hampton Cities | Defenseman/Right Fullback
Nick Seward, the right fullback of United Hampton Cities and of the national team, is one of the strongest defensemen in all of Hapiloppian football. His tackling ability from the right side of the pitch helped get UHC out of a few unfortunate situations, but unfortunately, that same tackling ability can go too far, as Seward is known for getting in card trouble. In fact, he was suspended twice last year due to yellow card accumulation, and unfortunately, it happened when UHC needed Nick the most.

#3 | Colin McLain | Hapilopper City Highway Patrol | Defenseman/Left Fullback
Colin McLain, the Highway Patrol’s left fullback, is one of the more aggressive players in Hapiloppian football, and one of the more temperamental players, too. McLain will tackle players with impunity, regardless of if the player actually has the ball, or if he’s going for the ball. McLain was given a straight red in Highway Patrol’s match against The Soldiers a year ago for clotheslining striker Ernie Stevenson, precipitating a large-scale brawl between the two clubs. McLain has been warned by the Hapilopper Football Association to be on his best behavior.

#4 | Scott Dukes | Kingsland Warriors | Defenseman/Centerback
Scott Dukes, one of two centerbacks for the national team, is the Kingsland Warriors’ top defensive man, but he typically plays on the left side of the pitch. Dukes has been asked to move to the center position, and has been extensively practicing from the center of the pitch. One of the cleanest defensivemen in Hapiloppian football, Dukes has been asked on multiple occasions to turn up the aggression, and hopefully he’ll do exactly that on matchday for the Hapiloppians.

#5 | Nathan Ellis | FC Buckridge | Defenseman/Centerback
Nate Ellis, FC Buckridge’s ill-tempered centerback, was a late addition to the team following injuries suffered by Garvinson defenseman Paul Dibble. Ellis is an aggressive defensiveman, but is known just as much for fits of anger, most notably last year when he kicked UHC midfielder Steve Erickson in the stomach in retaliation for Erickson diving in an attempt to draw a foul. Ellis was given only a one-game suspension, likely due to the fact that, yes, Erickson had very obviously dived, something the HFA has been trying to stamp out.

#6 | Pancakes Taggart | Capital City United | Defensive Midfielder
Richard “Pancakes” Taggart, a defensive midfielder for Capital City United, one of Hapilopper City’s multiple football teams, is the first line of defense for Capital City, and can kill the momentum of an opposing team’s offensive run. Taggart got his nickname after eating 25 pancakes in one hour at an International House of Flapjacks on the outskirts of Hapilopper City.

#7 | Doug Morse | FC Buckridge | Midfielder
Doug Morse of FC Buckridge has taken the #7 position following an injury to Kelvin Beverly in a West Hampton Sports Club match against West River. Morse, at 22 years of age, could be one of the new starts of the future for the HNFT, is known as a player that can stop offensive momentum when needed. Occasionally drives dirt late models at his hometown dirt track.

#8 | Murray Hunnisett |West River FC | Central Midfielder
Murray Hunnisett, the younger brother of HC Nationals star third baseman Leroy, is a central midfielder for Hapilopper City’s West River Football Club and the national team. Hunnisett can attack, and has three goals to his credit, and he can defend, getting the ball away from carriers at the first instance. Away from the pitch, Hunnisett is known as a ride-share driver on the “Mega” rideshare service around Hapilopper City, benefitting the “Drink, Drive and Die” campaign to stop drunk drivers in Hapilopper.

#9 | Steve Erickson | United Hampton Cities | Playmaking Midfielder
Steve Erickson of United Hampton Cities is a playmaking midfielder and striker, but is being used as an offensive midfielder for the national team. Erickson scored 19 goals last year for United Hampton Cities, but is unfortunately known for his tendency to “simulate” injuries at convenient times that may draw penalties. In other words, he’s a flopping jackass. This flopping drew the ire of Buckridge defenseman Nate Ellis in a match last year. Ellis and Erickson were jockeying for position. Erickson hit the deck. Ellis turned around and kicked Erickson in the stomach. Needless to say, the two didn't like each other until they were brought together for the Baptism of Fire.

#10 | Bobby East | Garvinson Trojans | Attacking Midfielder
Bobby East, Garvinson’s quiet attacking midfielder, is one third of the “Midnight Express” trio that led the small-town Trojans to a stunning second place in the HFA Championship. East, more commonly known as “Beautiful Bobby,” leaves the talking to his teammates and is just happy doing what he does on the pitch. Known as one of the nicest players in Hapiloppian sport off the pitch.

#11 | Ernie Stevenson | Hapilopper City Soldiers | Center Forward
Ernie Stevenson, the younger brother of racing driver Drake Stevenson, is one of the top strikers in all of Hapiloppian football, scoring 33 goals last year for The Soldiers en route to their HFA Championship a year ago, and has likely scored more goals than any single player in the 70th Baptism of Fire. Stevenson is a strong center forward and can bring the ball into the net from any angle. Away from the pitch, Stevenson and his wife, Wendy, lovingly take care of four dogs – a bulldog named Willie, a terrier named Drake, a Labrador named Precious and another bulldog named Princess.

TYPICAL BENCH PLAYERS
#12 | Rufus Weeks | Hapilopper City Highway Patrol | Center Forward
Rufus Weeks, the Highway Patrol’s chief striker, scored 26 goals last year, primarily from point-blank range. Rufus, known as “Judge Weeks” by the Highway Patrol’s fans, is one of the biggest showboats in Hapiloppian football, and his goal celebration commonly consists of him pointing at the goalkeeper and shouting “GUILTY AS CHARGED!” for whatever reason. Unfortunately, Weeks is also known for his diving, which put him down to fourth on the four-man depth chart on the national team as the HFA has tried to stamp out diving as much as it could.

#14 | John Cornett | Garvinson Trojans | Center Forward
John Cornett, Garvinson’s foul-mouthed striker, scored the second-most goals last year, scoring 31 goals as the Trojans finished 2nd in the HFA Championship. Cornett can be a threat from all sides of the pitch. Cornett, meanwhile, has an unfortunate reputation as one of the most ill-tempered players in all of Hapiloppian sport. Two years ago, Cornett was suspended for half the season for threatening to ram a broken beer bottle up a rear orifice of a referee. Rumors also exist of a video of Cornett threatening a drive-through worker of a Fat Chuck’s Tasty Fried Chicken restaurant.

#15 | Patrick Morris | Pinkerton City SC | Forward
Pat Morris, one of Pinkerton’s top strikers, scored 23 goals last year, but was put #3 on the striker’s depth chart due to the diving of teammate Rufus Weeks. Morris is a threat from primarily the right side of the pitch, and defenders would be very smart to trap him on the left side, as his usefulness typically goes downhill very quickly on that side of the pitch.

How he plays depends on the players he’s with, and Peoria City is not known as one of the top teams in the HFA Championship. However, experts agree that their poor standing is in spite of Herbert, not because of it.

Steve Swindlehurst, who can be placed anywhere ahead of the midpoint of the field, is a strong midfielder for Raceway Football Club in Buckridge. Swindlehurst actually scored two goals last year in incredibly lucky circumstances, one from 55 yards out when nobody was paying attention.

Paul Garrod, centerback for Washington FC, is on the team primarily as a last resort. Garrod was one of the last players selected to the national team. Expected to receive very little playing time in either the BoF or the World Cup qualifiers, and if he does make it in, it will be after the game is out of reach for either team.

Eli Tyrrell was added to the Hapilopper National Football Team following the injury of Kelvin Beverly and the promotion of Doug Morse to a starter's role. Tyrrell is a roughhousing midfielder and can take the ball away just as well as can run with it. Eli is also known to be one hell of a scrappy player and will try to find a way to make a starting lineup or two based on will alone.

New look Kadongo Kamu approach AOCAF LVIII with excitement. hope, and internal competition

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- One theme of Marcus Waters tenure has been squad continuity. HE doesn't tinker with the squad much- allowing them to form a lot of cohesiveness, and to have each player help learn each other's tendencies. He'll make decisive changes in the lineup when necessary, but he liked to keep the same 23. The last cycle was the height of this strategy. The Banijans kept the same 23 player on their squad throughout the entire of the 83rd World Cup cycle. In that entire cycle, there were two constants. The first, of course, was the 23. From AOCAF LVIII all the way through World Cup 83, they kept the exact same 23. The starting lineup changed, of course, you knew who you were getting. Jalang Ba, Afolayan, Yitebarke, Kahara, Okparro, Okafor, and Camara were all fixtures in the first choice XI for the Kadongo Kamu. But the times are always changing in the world of sport, where careers are short, and nowhere is that more true than the beautiful game. International careers see players retire earlier than they do for their club careers, to extend their club careers. IT makes sense- international careers have a punishing travel schedule, and at some point, you always need to refresh the national team players pool.

The second constant, of course, was home soil. The Kadongo Kamu have only played one home game off of home soil since their elimination from the group stages of World Cup 82 at the hands of Pasarga. The extraordinary squad continuity, coupled with the home field advantage they had the whole cycle, led this team to new heights. In the last edition of the AOCAFs, Banija co-hosted the tournament alongside Baker Park. They rode their home fans to an excellent performance in AOCAF LVIII, reeling off six consecutive wins in the tournament to reach the final, at the Stadium of the Restoration, against their archrivals Equestria. Most unfortunately for the Banijans, they watched their archrivals have their greatest sporting achievement(at that point in time anyways) in their national stadium, on their home turf, when the Equestrians won by a score of 4-2 against the Banijans. While the atmosphere was electric, and the Banijan players were focused in their first ever final, it would be the more talented Equestrians who would win on the day. Still, while nobody likes losing a final, you cannot deny what was accomplished by the Banijans at that tournament. After losing in the quarterfinals of this tournament in three consecutive editions, they finally overcame that and launched themselves to truly compete among the sport's elite, in the multiverse's most competitive region.

Sticking to the theme of competing on home soil, the RBSA, led by Robel Ezera, wanted to keep this going, and launched a historic Reconciliation World Cup Bid with Equestria. For two nations that are such fierce rivals on the pitch, and recently had a literal war against one another not that long ago, it was a historic undertaking. And, just like for World Cup 81, the Banijans organized a tour of their country, and played their only game off of home soil this whole cycle, when they played their annual game in the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. But going around to different regions, different sets of Banijans got a chance to see their team prepare for the World Cup Finals, where the Banijans had ambitions to follow up their AOCAF LVIII success with at bare minimum an appearance in the knockout stages of this World Cup. A Cup of Champions appearance on home soil saw them net fourth place, and then they followed that with the World Cup. We don't need to recap that- anyone who subscribes to this magazine knows how well that World Cup went for us. But of course, you cannot just play home games into perpetuity, and with a bronze medal at World Cup 83, alongside the U18 squad winning the Sporting World Cup, there was always going to have to be a time for the next generation to step up. And that time is now.

After not having changed the squad since the beginning of AOCAF LVIII, a rash of retirements from the national team forced the hand of Marcus Waters. Chibuzo Afolayan, the all-time leading goalscorer for the national team, a centerpiece of AFC Corvistone in the Nepharim Premiership, and the longtime captain of the national team, announced his retirement from the national team at the end of the World Cup. And he was just the first to do so. Assefa Yitebarke, the longtime central striker who was recently named Banija's second ever Galactico, also retired from the international scene. Ensa Camara retired, Jalang Ba and Okonkwo Okparro also hung up their cleats for the national team, and enough changes were made for a stunning 10 changes from the World Cup squad to this squad. It is the biggest tournament to tournament turnover that the national team has had since Marcus Waters took the helm. And as we begin to lead into the 84th World Cup cycle, the expectations for Banija are different. A nation long seen as trying to break into the upper echelon of nations at this sport, has just watched their archrivals do that, as Equestria has achieved a rare regional-World Cup double in the same cycle. Just as Banija is rising, and nations like Valanora and Starblaydia return from the wilderness, the competition is fiercer than ever as Banija continues its dogged pursuit towards its first ever major international trophy in this sport.

Who are the new faces on this squad? Well, there are plenty, but first, let's start with a new old face- Sia Fall. The consumerate professional, a player who is known, perhaps moreso than any other BSL player, for his tireless work ethic and positionless flexibility, has been away from the national team for years. He was on the national team for a few cycles, but lost his spot on the national team after AOCAF LVI in Equestria, following a World Cup 80 Qualifying campaign that originally saw him as a starter, but saw him lose his spot to Gitonga Kahara, and we know what the new Banijan skipper did with that spot. But just ask him what his return to the fold means to him. "Well, you know, every young boy dreams of playing for his country in the biggest moments." Sia Fall told us. "I cannot complain- I have been able to play for my country before, even though I am extremely sad that I did not get the opportunity to do so more often. But the fact remains that, after so many years ago, the manager chose to believe in me and my own ability to contribute to the team, both in the locker room and on the pitch. That means quite a lot to me." Sia Fall, of course, is going to be asked to back up Namakula Kawesa, and the unorthodox nature of this year's tournament may mean he'll have the ability to see the field. Instead of just 3 group stage matches at a neutral site, the Banijans will play 10 while criss-crossing Atlantian Oceania- 5 away, 5 at home. Because of that heavy schedule, the group stages of the AOCAF will function more like a World Cup Qualification campaign than a traditional group stage- though, of course, this being a major tournament group stage, much more emphasis will be on placement within the group, rather than just surviving it.

Where else does the national team see new blood? Well, let's go to the Sporting World Cup squad. Banija's side won all their matches at the tournament, defeating the U18 Starblaydia side in the tournament final. Of course, Starblaydia's senior side exacted their revenge for that loss at the Stadium of the Restoration- though we doubt the Sporting World Cup was on their minds on that fateful day where the Stadium of the Restoration was etched into their own history books. There are 3 players from that squad pulled directly onto this side, and they, of course, will have the first crack at earning long-term spots on the national team going forward. They, of course, have won a tournament together, and seem to be the beginning of a new generation with not only championship hope, but maybe even legitimate championship expectations? We'll see. This group is highlighted by the young central midfielder Mzukisi Nzo, who impressed enough at camp to even earn a spot at least in the preliminary Starting XI. Whether he can hold it is another thing, but to jump from Sporting World cup champion to being a member of the starting XI for the national team is no small jump. He plays for Askatasuna FC, who has a history of developing key young Banijan development, as famed national team captain Kiggwe Mavuto and Chibuzo Afolayan both started their professional careers at the club. Can Nzo follow in their footsteps? He's very raw, and after a season in the BSL, many said he was maddeningly inconsistent, but the raw talent is there.

There are 2 other members of the opening day starting XI that have, between them, exactly 0 national team callups. Bunyoro RSC center back Kuma Bultum will be answering the call to play next to Kawsu Kaba, and it will be Fekati Abdi, of the Herzegovina Phoenix, replacing longtime wingback Ensa Camara. The defense has always been a place of flux for the Kadongo Kamu, and this time is no different- with veterans like Jalang Ba, Abate Brehanu, and Ensa Camara having decided to hang up their boots, the next generation of defenders must step up and take their place, and that is exactly what is happening here. They aren't the only new players, however. The team has their 2nd and 3rd ever female players on the roster, with right back Uzoma Iruka out of Lakiska SC making the squad, as well as Loyola-Istria striker Idai Uster. Uster, of course, has quite the stakes riding on this tournament, as she only played one year at the University of Loyola-Istria. She has declined to renew her eligibility to pursue this opportunity. Chances are she'll be signed by a BSL side, but if she gets the opportunity to see the pitch, then could she even play her way to a foreign contract? We'll have to wait and see.

You'll have a chance to see your new look Kadongo Kamu in action before the tournament starts. The RBSA, with the lack of away games played last cycle, has decided that all of its friendlies heading into the tournament will be away games, to get the team more exposure to playing in front of a hostile environment, on the international side of things. Helping the side getting used to the different environments you'll see in international soccer. It is a big deal- backup winger Madu Okparra has even told us that he has never left the country in his entire life, and he is about to join the national team. Banija has away matches confirmed against Tamgu, Xanneria, Lisander, and a Glorious Southwest battle between Banija and Siovanija & Teusland. There are rumors of a match potentially being scheduled with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, and the RBSA confirmed that they were in 'deep talks' with their counterparts at the Football Association for the Commonwealth of Baker Park, but they could not elaborate on the nature of those discussions as negotiations were ongoing.

Now, of course, there is Banija's group. Marcus Waters, at his own press conference at the opening of team camp, commented on the group. "This competition will be interesting." He told reporters. "There isn't much history between the Kadongo Kamu and many of these nations, though Banija did beat Tropicorp in the Round of 16 of an AOCAF a few years back. But the opportunity to travel home and away for the tournament will give it a very different feel. Good decision by the hosts- bringing the games closer to fans, and with the longer journeys, teams will be better by the time they reach the knockout stages in Equestria and Chromatika. Even though they've been away for a long time, we all know the reputation of Sarzonia- a historical sporting power. Saltstead is a rising power in the game in their own right, and always have a fierce defense. Torisakia is talented themselves, and Demot is within the Glorious Southwest- making that an interesting subregional derby. I am excited for this group, for this team to see these new places, these new footballing cultures. We have talent, however, among our own 23. Every team in the competition has the same goal in the group stages of a competition- get to the next round. That's all you can control, and that is our preliminary goal. Get to the knockouts, and put ourselves in a position to succeed at the knockouts. It will surely be an entertaining journey."

And it will be. AOCAF LIX is sure to be a long one, with enough group stage matches to ensure almost the entire 23 get the chance to see the pitch, at least once. It will be quite a journey for fans of the Kadongo Kamu. Can the new look squad mesh in time for a strong performance at the AOCAF regional championships? Or will all the squad change be a detriment? We'll surely find out over the course of what should be an entertaining tournament.

This is the eighth time that Oontaz Dert Li Ng will be participating in the AOCAF. Oontaz got through undefeated in the group stage of the Baptism of Fire 61 but was knocked out in the round of 16 by Arioslavia. The nation is a mix of Muslims and Catholics, with the Mohammedans concentrated in the northern part of the country and the Christians living mostly in the southern islands. Despite a turbulent early history which saw both religious groups fighting constant wars and rebellions, by the time Abanhfleft came and "occupied" the nation in 1921, a general "peace" had settled between the two groups, and today both are content to consider each other as Oontazniks. Despite being a sultanate, the freedom of religion is valued by the nation, although it would be good advice to say that while the Catholics and Christians might be welcoming, even accommodating, to foreigners of strange new religions, the Muslims might not be so welcoming.

And then Karim was surprisingly sold back to his old Oontaznik club Pasargad Manitogoro and while Karim's goalkeeping skills didn't diminish, going back to his homeland seemed to have made Emir Usamah (the old manager of the team) forget all about Karim and his contributions to the Oontaznik national team during their historic run to the Coalition Cup (an informal tournament held between the national teams of Abanhfleft, Pridnestrovia, Oontaz, and Copper Cuprum). Following Oontaz's (unsurprising) exit in the Round of 16 of AOCAF 52 to Osarius, Ador Macaspac remembered that Karim still exists and called him back up to the squad.

Marco Portencio is one of the new faces on the Oontaznik national football team following the sacking of Emir Usamah and the elevation of Ador Macaspac from star striker to new team manager. Marco is a quality right back who is already showing flashes of world-class brilliance, kind of like a cheap Oontaznik version of Hector Bellerin. He has pace in buckets, and he is also good for scoring a goal or two per season.

RCB: Jericson SARIMANOK 29 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi

Sturdy defensive minded player who can play anywhere across the defensive line. He used to be stuck on the Oontaznik bench when Emir Usamah was still the coach because of clan rivalries between the Emir's clan and Jeric's, and then when Ador Macaspac took over the team, Makhdoum Macaraig resurrected his defensive career to become another mainstay in the starting eleven, but with Makhdoum finally retiring from international duties after AOCAF LV, Jeric finally gets elevated to the starting eleven.

LCB: Honesto CAMPANILLA 32 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi

Sometimes it is lamentable that in a competition where experience and leadership would be most valuable in a back line, all that could be scraped up was a single slow defender who somehow made it big in Abanhfleft's top flight, and a bunch of young talent that could make it or break it at any day. Campanilla, or Estong as he likes to be called, has slightly more potential than the other defenders in the team, and he also has a slightly higher chance of being an actually good player than the others. Sure, he slide-tackles at every opportunity, and it is easy for an experienced forward or even midfielder to get him booked, but Estong only has to learn to not swing himself around like a mace and he could make it big like his big partner in the center, Makhdoum Macaraig.

LB: Martin OPULENCIA 29 y/o, Real Mikkaleth

Another new face from Ador Macaspac's new look Oontaznik team. Martin is a resolute left back who doesn't shrink away from making any challenges, even against players normally acknowledged as "untouchable" by other teams' defenses. He is content to remain at the back, defending his goal when needed, but sometimes he might be commanded to come up for an attack, and he doesn't shrink away from scoring a goal or two per season either.

DM: Timothy SAN MARCELINO 33 y/o, General Santos FC

Of course it wouldn't be a real Oontaznik football team if a Santos player wasn't there. And in this part of the team, it looks as if Emir Usamah has finally assembled a team capable of making it through the World Cup qualifiers with at least a few draws and maybe a win or two. SanMar, as he's called by Oontaz fans, is, as his position states, a defensive midfielder, meaning that his main purpose is to break up any attacks attempted by the opponents before they reach the pitiful defense and the sadly shocking goalkeeper. It's a job that he does well enough that he's earned a starting spot in the most prestigious team in Oontaz Dert Li Ng.

CM: ABU NAYEF Ismailuddin 33 y/o, Pasargad Manitogoro

No one really thought much of Abu Nayef's inclusion to the national team since he was one of those players who was good enough in the league to get a spot in the national team, but not good enough to get a starting spot. But he's starting to earn a spot in Emir Usamah's team sheet, since he's turned out to be one of the surprise players of Oontaz's World Cup qualifying campaign. By now, he's a shoo-in for a spot on the bench, and if the going gets tough, he can handle a starting spot.
IMPORTANT: This player should be always referred to as Abu Nayef since Ismailuddin is a patronym.

RM: Ronson "Ronnie" RAMIREZ 31 y/o, Revanigruud Riversharks

Georges Leblanc spent 5 million new penenks to get Ramirez from Real Altamarino to the May 26 Memorial, but it seems a little bit too soon to say if he's had any impact in the Blue Tribesmen, and Leblanc has seen it fit to loan Ramirez out to Real Mikkaleth, who will be making to make yet another promotion push next season. Ronnie is more of a winger than a proper midfielder, but since Oontazniks never really believed in investing in proper wingers, Ronnie can fill in for that central midfield role, but not as well as when he's deployed as a real winger. Still, at least he's got a chance of breaking through and becoming a good and decent player, unlike the majority of the rest of his teammates.

CAM: Macario "Mac-Mac" CORTES 32 y/o, Easthaven Centurion

Yet another promising Oontaznik youngster lured away from his home by the prestige and glamour of the Fleftic Premier League. The good thing is that Emir Usamah is setting up the team for the future, meaning that he's getting the most promising young Oontaznik players and getting them playing time with the senior team, which he knows will eventually be replaced by the youngsters once the veteran players grow old and retire. At least his reasons for being on the bench are much more justified than the others: he's still a little bit too young to be playing in the first team, and Magomedun Mangudadatu is still the best in the game in his position as CAM, which is also Mac-Mac's favored playing position. At least he gets to learn from one of the best.

LM: ZULFIQLI bin Alisher 32 y/o, Union Rheinburg

Sometimes, there comes a time that a team becomes so full of talent in the midfield that someone has to be dropped for the sake of the other players. Zulfiqli was... someone who had this happen to him. Everyone knows of Godric Wexler's reputation for finding and producing world class players from relative unknowns. He had done much the same with Zulfiqli, but unfortunately for the Oontaznik, his quality only appeared when Wexler had finally fixed his problems in his midfield. He knew that Zulfiqli would need starting minutes if he was to keep his spot in the starting eleven of the Oontaz national team, and that's why he was loaned to Pridnestrovia's Union Rheinburg. And now Zulfiqli's a vital component to the Eisern Union's surprise title challenge in the Pridnestrovian Super League.
IMPORTANT: This player should always be referred to as Zulfiqli since bin Alisher is a patronym.

Eduardo is a decent striker for his age, and there's definitely room for him to grow and take up Ador Macaspac's mantle when Oontaz Dert Li Ng's star striker finally decides to hang up his boots. But it looks like this won't be the case, as Teofisto Abcede surprised everyone else and took over Estevez's spot as Macaspac's backup striker option. Still, there's no denying that Eduardo can become one of Oontaz's best strikers after the age of Dominador Macaspac draws to a close, but it's up to him to realize that potential. Santos FC sold him to Arioslavia's FK Torpedo Telgrad in exchange for Alexey Bulganin. Now starting in place of the retired Ador Macaspac, who has become the new team manager after Emir Usamah was sacked.

GK: Septimio BARRANQUILLANO 36 y/o, Botafogo de Maranao

Maranao is renowned in Oontaz as being one of the best football academies, if not the best, in the country. It also has a reputation of producing good goalkeepers from its ranks. Unfortunately, Septimio is not one of those good keepers. Sure, he's decent, and can pull off a save that could be considered world-class, but for all intents and purposes, if he really was one of the good keepers, he would not be playing in Oontaz anymore, especially not for a mid-table side like Botafogo.

GK: Usamah ROBERTS-INGLES 28 y/o, Botafogo de Maranao

At least Botafogo's goalkeeper academy produced another good one. Unfortunately for him, he's both too young to be the national team's starting keeper, and he's also the son of a marriage between an Oontaznik and a foreigner, so discrimination is coming into play in here. But not by much, because he's so good and the other keepers are so... crap that Emir Usamah had no choice but to call him up even though both of them know that goalie Usamah won't get to play while Emir Usamah's the manager.

DEF: Garson LAPITAN 29 y/o, Sub Deg Raiders A.F.C.

Garson is a defender whose main assets are speed and a good footballing mind. He can catch up to all but the fastest players in any given league, not that he is often caught out of position. His only downside is that he fancies himself someone who can crack open the opposition's defense with a long ball, a tactic which more often than not gives the ball back to the opposition.

DEF: Zenofilo BATOBALANI 33 y/o, Racing Al-Ampatuan

It's not a real Oontaznik national football team if there isn't any player from Racing Al-Ampatuan in the roster, and Batobalani fits that role nicely. Al-Ampatuan used to be one of the biggest teams in Oontaz, constantly competing with Santos and Botafogo for titles and cups, but lately they've been on a bit of a decline, and now they're considered relegation fodder just like their traditional rivals, Deportivo Mangudadatu. Batobalani once had a future of being one of the greatest Oontaznik defenders of all time, and not just the present time but of all time. But instead of moving on to more prestigious teams and letting his talent get noticed, he decided to stick it out with the constant relegation scraps between Mangudadatu and Al-Ampatuan. Perhaps it would be prudent not to mention the loaded contract that he was given by the team owners, who have been accused of masterminding one of the greatest massacres in recent history, and also one of the biggest benefactors of the nation's endemic corruption culture...

DEF: Albert James DIMACATARUNGAN 35 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi

Dimacatarungan's surname means "unfair" in the Mayin language, but this time, there's nothing unfair about his being on the bench. At least Emir Usamah isn't stupid enough to choose him over Estong Campanilla who, as said before, has, at least, a definite chance of becoming an actual quality player instead of Dimacatarungan, who is just plain shit. Strange to see him still in the team now that Emir Usamah is gone...

Malabon may not have had the best of seasons in the FPL but Noah Calanoy stepped up and became one of the few bright spots in the Magpies' season as he stepped up to replace the likes of Redwood Simpson and Setrak Abrahamyan in an effort to plug Malabon's defensive leaks. It may not have worked out in the end for Malabon but Calanoy showed enough quality in defense to warrant his first ever international call-up for the Oontaznik national team.

Joey Boy is the classic box-to-box midfielder, balancing offensive and defensive duties and covering as much of the pitch as possible. Unfortunately, he has a tendency to focus on one specific duty for too long, and by the duty he could mentally shift himself from being an attacking player to a defensive player or vice versa, it's often too late, and the defense had been overrun by a competent opponent.

Out of the surprise team of the season is the Young Player of the Season of the 2023-24 Oontaznik First Division. Felix is all about pace, pace, and more pace. He also makes use of his ability to turn on a dime to roam all over the pitch and distract defenders. Yes, this does mean that he doesn't score a lot of goals himself for a forward player but does it count when it's his ability to pull defenders away that results in his teammates scoring anyway?

Now here is a player whom no one was expecting to be anywhere near a football team, let alone the Oontaznik national team. Marcris was born Maricris Mas, a woman, and had actually participated in the women's teams of Vigan Athletic and then Botafogo de Maranao before undergoing sexual reassignment surgery and revealing himself as a transgender man just about two years ago. His uncertain status has forced him out of Oontaznik clubs but he has found a new home in Ab Gon in Copper Cuprum. His main assets are strength and hold-up play but he also has a beautiful flick that looks absolutely fine when it connects with another teammate. But when said flick ends up sending the ball straight to the opposition, it's a wasteful and needless tactic.

FW: Arthur SUPRATNO 24 y/o, Malabon SC

Supratno is in very much the same situation as his FPL teammate Noah Calanoy. Supratno did his best to back up Kevin Kelvin in terms of scoring goals but in the end, Malabon still fell short of getting back into at least the Globe Cup places despite his twelve goals in all competitions. But Supratno is young, and some experience in an international tournament can't do him any harm whatsoever.

The long flight back to Atlantian Oceania was long and at times taxing, but the Bovine Geese did their job well, transporting the whole corp of nellies and flightless fowl that had gone to Pasarga for the Rushmore Cup.The braying, the honking, the at times weird flight arrangements that seemed to spell letters not aerodynamically favorable - it was finally over as Duck could smell the familiar odor of Atlantia Oceania airspace, and he was rather surprised that it smelled like... licorice. He hated licorice. But he liked being at home.

Except that they weren't going home. Another veer farther north and east than expected - where were they going?

"Duck!"

AUK was shouting atop a big goose. Of all of the kinds of birds that he was, he had to be flightless. Duck glanced with a menacing stare. "What is it?"

"We need to prepare Arena Nellietopia for our first home match of the Cup!"

What??!?" That exhortation sounded more like a quack than a sincere question. Before Duck could respond with more hysteria, AUK explained the situation. "The Nellies are competing in the AOCAF, and part of the competition means going to our country, inviting other teams to play in our stadia!"

Another competition? Didn't they just finish one already? "[color=#BF40400]We've hosted plenty of competitions before - we don't need to worry![/color]"

"On the contrary, we haven't used that plot for years, and we want to welcome our foreign guests with aplomb! I need to go back to Nellietopolis to prepare for our first home match against Schiavonia. You need to follow the nellie squad to Audioslavia! Do not do anything menacing or hostile! We're building a good reputation now, and we need to play things smart, not aggressive. No raids, no bites, no random rocket-propelled grenades..."

"Aw, but I love RPGs!"

"NO! Just... don't do anything that you think might start a fight. If it starts a fight, don't do it! If you think it might start a fight, don't do it! If you would fight over it, don't do it! Understood?"

Ugh, that AUK clearly thinks that he's the leader. "Do not forget that I have the support of the Conclave, and if they view your actions in Audioslavia as counterproductive or needlessly hostile, you will be expelled from AFLAC, and I will no hesitation to do so. You have been warned!" And with that final warning, AUK took a small portion of nellies and geese back to Nellietopia. Duck watched them fly into the distance until at last nothing could be seen but the clouds above the horizon. He despised being told what to do, especially by the lily-livered diplomat. But he was right - the Conclave wanted this "new direction" for Nellietopia, and it was clear that AUK was using his words to hold Duck to account. But surely, a little fun could be tolerated? And even if they did expel him from AFLAC, they couldn't really keep him away - he was one of the founding members of AFLAC - they couldn't seriously do that.

But then again, he didn't want to take that risk. As needlessly aggressive as he could be, there had to be some point to the hostility (like Sorthern Northland - totally legitimate). In any event, he could start to see (and smell) the Audioslavian airspace, and - much like the rest of Atlantian Oceania - he hated the smell... of pigeon shit.

AOCAF Fury Doesn't Dent Government Lead According To Poll

A recent poll released by right-leaning pollster İlerleme has indicated that the recent anger from opposition parties over the governments decision to designate the upcoming AOCAF an "Essential cultural event" thus banning any advertisements and other conflicting programming of a significant nature 16 months before the next scheduled election. This means that while ministers and their opposition spokespeople as well as the Prime Minister and the leaders of various qualifying parties would be preparing for a series of televised debates, viewers will instead be streaming every AOCAF match on the device of their choice with no political programming allowed to be released onto any platform during the tournament itself.

Culture Minister Safiye Olgun responded to accusations of stifling political debate in the run up to the scheduled election in a statement to the The Gönüllü Meclisi, "The accusations that we'd seek to undermine democracy are outrageous. We simply want to encourage the public to engage with football and sport more widely as part of our nation's gradual opening to the world. We have simply delayed the debates to allow maximum engagement with the tournament, why is it as soon as our country begins to showcase itself on the international stage and we want to open ourselves to the world that suddenly the opposition insist on dragging us into confrontation within our own borders. Instead let's simply accept that for a lot of the country football has become culturally significant and allow them some freedom from ourselves."

Opposition leader Naz Dogancay, current co-leader of the Ozgurluk Coalisyon responded to the government's defence with an explosive accusation that they were "Cynically using sport as a propaganda tool to placate people furious with the governments inability to stimulate the economy." Prompting several instances of shouting across parliament resulting in an altercation between a group of the traditionalist Savunma Cephesi and the pro-minority BAHP MPs that needed security to be called. The vote in parliament to decide on whether AOCAF should be classified as an essential cultural event passed by 280 votes to 270, with 14 TIOC MPs rebelling to vote against the government and the Communist Party's (TKP) 9 MPs voting in line with the government.

The spat has resulted in opposition parties agreeing to hold their own debates between their spokespeople with both TIOC and the TKP to be empty chaired if they choose not to attend. This has created additional pressure on National Football Team manager Bekir Altingunes a person who is known to have connections with the governing party and a former Agriculture Minister himself. He issued a short statement during his pre-tournament press conference, "These decisions are now well above my paygrade and a matter for politicians, if they decide to follow through with this, or not, we'll just be trying to put the best possible performances out there on the pitch so the country can feel proud of us." The Football Federation issued a further statement, "The Football Federation is necessarily a politically neutral organisation and so do not comment on political developments."

With the economy growing steadily, living standards rising and a clampdown on corruption which has proven popular with voters, the governing TIOC has found itself in a period of dominance when many wondered if the rapid opening of the democratic playing field to several diverse parties might force them into a position of having to make deals with various opposition forces, they have instead managed to recover from their bruising losses in the last election and despite the recent controversies could well see themselves returning to power. This is especially important with President Ibrahim Karaman's term set to end and a new president needing to be elected after the next election. Failure to elect a president will result in a snap election so the need for a majority in order to avoid two elections in quick succession is not lost on the TIOC leadership.

The voting intention poll shows that despite rumours of the 14 rebel MPs (who almost all hail from the Democratic Alliance, a constituent party within TIOC) splitting from the party and 4 of the opposition parties deciding to hold their own debate, streamed on their respective websites and social media, that the governing TIOC has extended their lead over the main opposition and look set to win a landslide if the election were held today. How the government deals with the potential mutineers who may rob the government of a majority and how much the opposition debate cuts through among the AOCAF enthusiasm will likely set the direction of travel as we approach campaigning season.

The beginning of a new managerial era has begun for the national team, and many are hoping she can bring about a completely new set of fortunes; long time gaffer Adrien Darby let his contract expire last season at the end of the 83rd World Cup, and not many were sorry to see him go, he had led the charge since the Warriors debuted at the 74th World Cup, and after leading them through 9 World Cups, 3 AOCAFs and 2 Cups of Harmony, he posted a horrendously lopsided losing record at 24-39, and never accumulated a single piece of silverware, or significant progess such as qualifying for the proper World Cup, his high mark was making it and then ending their journey there in the 71st Cup of Harmony's quarterfinals.

The AFC and Ministry of Sport announced in a joint statement at the end of the last World Cup that the new selection for national team manager had gone to none other then Samantha Broughton, poaching her from the player-coach position with Evesham, she was thought to be the best selection for the post after none of the managers in the Premiership could be swayed, with rumors they had tried to attract John Greenwood out of Evesham, William Baird out of Ashingdon or Matthew Cripps out of Senades, but none wanted the rather precarious hot seat of leading the Warriors. That isn't to diminish Broughton's own capabilities however, she and John Greenwood have assembled an incredibly successful dynasty at Evesham, leading it to 2 league titles and every finish that wasn't a title was in the top 4 of the league for the last six seasons, something to be immensely proud of. What will be very exciting to look forward to is the change of play, with Broughton already changing the team's composition so as to complement her offensive minded tactics and background, hoping she can get Jennifer McKenzie and Jason Rigsby, the long-time main forwards for the Warriors to successfully produce to the same results she managed to get her domestic club to produce, and she will face an incredibly stiff challenge with her managerial debut coming in the 59th AOCAF, with every group being incredibly hard, but the Warriors will be squaring off with immense heavyweights Valanora and Vilita and Turori, as well as Ko-oren.

Introduction

Nick Cole’s 2nd international squad selection sees 17 of the 23 players from the last squad return. Despite a lot of speculation over who is in or out, 4 of the 6 who are out were 34 or above now, and one was injured and thus precluded from selection. The squad itself seems to be more of an evolution than a revolution, with the main difference likely to be in the strategy and initial starting 11, based on the players chosen and the squad numbers awarded.

Originally seen to be the likely second choice keeper in the short to medium term, an unfortunate ACL tear for David Meehan, which he hasn’t yet completely recovered from, sees Nicholas Dobson get the honour of taking the #1 jersey. Nicknamed “200 and 100” for his height and weight, even if he now weighs in at “only” 97kg, he is a very imposing figure in goal. Agility is obviously not his finest point, but he can position himself well, and can also get a ball far downfield with a throw or a kick.

Playing as a left wing back who looks to get the ball forward quickly, Maddox seemed to struggled initially as a full back. However the formation switch in the WCQ83 did wonders for him, as he seemed to thrive in the new system. Some good performances means he should be confident of the #2 jersey for at least another few years. He’ll look to act as the outlet down the wing for the Flavovespia attack, whilst making sure not to leave himself too exposed to the counter attack.

3 Alexander May 26 DEF Langmere Green Rovers 0 0
The first of the 6 debutants into the national team for this tournament. Impressive performances at club level have seen him put straight into the first 11, displacing the centre backs who started for Flavovespia last time around. A typical no-nonsense central defender, he marks well and can rise high for headers, but doesn’t have any sort of flashy footwork or ability to play killer balls from the deep. May will have a lot to prove as a debutant with a starter’s number, and a good tournament here cold net him lots of caps in the long run.

4 Mark James 30 DEF Marthorpe City 11 0
Mark James came from the #14 jersey at the WCQ83 and COH75, to now having #4. Like May, he also has quite a typical old-school approach to centre back play. Reaching the veteran age now, he’ll be looking to bring some experience to the defence, a role that is now vacated since John Calvert dropped from National Team contention. A team-mate to Maddox, manager Nick Cole will hope the teammates at club and international level work well at the back for Flavovespia.

5 Tony Gardner 24 DEF Kings 12 0
Another defender who came from the fringes at the last round of internationals to now make it into the first XI. Gardner has improved these last few years to become one of the premium defenders of Flavovespia. Unlike May and James, he seems more comfortable with the ball at feet than many central defenders, and likely to be the outlet to any short passes from the back, as well as potentially playing a defensive midfield role. That doesn’t mean his skills as a defender are to be underestimated.

6 Stephen Moore 27 DEF Loxthorpe Rovers 13 0
14-16 in the squad last time around are now 4-6. Stephen Moore was the 2nd choice right wing back, but displaced Stephen Shepherd to make it his position. His play is based on having pace and acceleration to put pressure down the right flank. Not originally famed for being particularly strong as a pure defender or a winger, he put in surprisingly good performances at times, and has done enough to get the #6 jersey. At 27 he’ll hope to make the next 5 or so years count in terms of caps.

7 James King 29 MID Stanmorn 16 3 (vice-captain)
One of the players who definitely impressed for Flavovespia in their inaugural campaign. The playmaker in the midfield, King is very much a heads-up player. He prefers to create with a good pass, to feet or to space. In the 5-3-2, he can find the right pass to either a wing back, a midfield partner or a more advanced player to create an opportunity. Now 29, his years of experience at Stanmorn in the Super League and now for Flavovespia show, and someone Flavovespia need to do well to help the team out.

8 Henrik Jensen 32 MID Langmere Green Rovers 15 1
Moving from #6 to #8 for this tournament, but still a starter, to the surprise of a few. Jensen is in some ways the opposite to King. What he lacks in creativity, he makes up for with an aggressive tenacity to hustle the opposition for the ball, and to make the key runs and tackles to get the ball back. Not likely to be a popular player to play against, Jensen will hope to keep on the right side of the rules, to shore up the defence, and to still pose an attacking defence.

9 Andrew Mason 28 ATT Stanmorn 16 5
Not the most spectacular player out on the pitch for Flavovespia, but put in some solid performances, especially in a 2 striker setup. Competition did look fierce domestically for his spot, but Cole had enough faith in him to give him a second stint as the #9. He’s a more “big man up front” type of striker, with an accurate head and food, rather than a pacey striker who looks to create easier opportunities.

10 Scott Coleman 23 ATT Stanmorn 15 7
Coleman was the breakout player for Flavovespia in their last campaign. Originally considered to be an option on the wings, he slotted in to a front 2, to great effect. His pace became a handful to deal with, and he could often create something by getting into space. Criticised for his relatively poor finishing at times, he’s developed that aspect of his game well, and with further improvement could become a mainstay of the national team for around a decade. He partners club teammate Andrew Mason upfront, a team connection that could potentially play dividends.

11 Steven Hall 26 MID Hadford Hill 16 7 (captain)
Captain for Flavovespia, and very well the best player for the nation at the moment. Hall is at the prime age, and is absolutely playing like it, for club and for country. An attacking midfielder, this setup puts him in the centre, but he can also drift out wide. A skilled dribbler on the ball, tricky to tackle with quick feet and pace. A delight to watch on the ball, Flavovespia will hope he can deliver once again.

With Harrington‘s age and Meehan’s injury, there were 2 goalkeeper spots opening up. Andrew Bullivant had a great domestic season, and some even thought he could be named the starter. However, it was the second choice goalkeeper position for him, somewhat frustrating to sit behind the keeper of club rivals Loxthorpe Rovers.

13 Stephen Shepherd 26 DEF Waldster 5 0
Dropping out of the starting XI for Flavovespia, Shepherd didn’t quite get to grips with playing a more attacking role at international level. Although a relatively smart defender, he seemed to lack some of the finer technical skills, and this could hinder the performance for Flavovespia down the right flank. He’ll likely get some appearances, but needs to demonstrate that extra level to make himself a regular for future tournaments.

14 Neil Wright 24 DEF Stanmorn 9 0
Somewhat of a surprise to see him make the squad again, after a somewhat erratic display last time out, culminating in an argument with Henrik Jensen on the pitch. Still young, and able to play the ball well for a defender, Wright will look to try and look to become more consistent in the fundamentals of defence. At his age, there’s still time to make it as an international regular, but needs to show he can be relied on.

15 Mervyn Button 33 DEF Langmere Green Rovers 0 0
At 33, one of the elder statesman of the Flavovespian football world, but impressive domestic displays mean he’s been given a call up to the National Team. Not a pacey or a flashy defender, he’ll very much be there when the “back to basics” approach is needed. Quite a likeable figure on and off the pitch, unless he’s put in a tough tackle to dispossess someone. Not likely to be a long term figure for Flavovespia, but will hopefully provide some valuable experience for some of the younger players.

His transfer last season from relegated Guildwell Football to promoted Binclestead Wood raised a few eyebrows, not least with some of the off pitch chaos of his new team, but on the pitch he delivered, and has got himself a national call up. Mainly a centre back, he can play down the wings however. Very much a “jack of all trades, master of none” defender, it’s hard to pick a major strength of his, but at the same time, it’s rare to see him have a noticeably bad game. Could have potential to make a medium term impact for Flavovespia.

17 Jonathan Feld 25 MID Marthorpe City 6 0
An impressive player for Marthorpe City, but struggled in the National Team last time out with no obvious wide attacking position to slot into. Feld has got himself called up again, and could be key if there is a change of setup. Strong on his left foot, he can drill in a strong ball to pose a danger for the opposition. At 25, he still has years ahead of him, but only time will tell if he can fit into the Flavovespia setup.

A midfielder with a more defensive mindset, Wolfson didn’t have many appearances, and didn’t exactly set the world alight, but has obviously done enough to get another call up in Cole’s opinion. Mainly a backup for Jensen last time out, he’s likely to fit a similar role once again. At 32 it’s hard to see him having many more tournaments for Flavovespia, however he does bring an experience to the team that can prove to be useful.

Like Wolfson, he didn’t seem to provide much for Flavovespia in their inaugural campaigns, but Cole is happy enough to give him a second chance. Typically a left midfielder at club level, the setup for the national team means he has to try and adapt of a left wing back or central midfield role. Quite a fast player, his strength is in the passing and crossing, and not so much either finishing or defending. For Winward, getting international game time will be key to trying to earn more call-ups in the future.

Unfortunate really to still be looking for his first international goal, Martin gets another call up, albeit only on the bench this time around to begin with. Very much a more pacey striker, he was always going to struggle when Coleman came through with some strong performances. Now at 30, he’s looking to evolve more into a veteran striker role, and will hope to provide Flavovespia with some goals this time around.

21 Guoliang Fu 30 ATT St Astons 7 0
Returning with the #21 jersey again, Fu isn’t a natural fit for any of the positions in the setup, but can play as a striker or an attacking midfielder. No goals last time out, but he does have relatively quick feet, and can leave defenders flat on their feet. A grafter who started his career in the semi-pro leagues, he’s always able to put in a shift, no matter what the situation is on the pitch, and could provide some knowledge to the team.

One of the reserve players last time, and ultimately not called up, Daley gets into the squad as #22 this time. An impressive domestic record, especially in cup games has got him his first call up. A strong striker, Daley can hustle the defence and is a big threat at set pieces. With Mason, Coleman and Martin in the squad, he’ll have to impress however if he wants to get some regular appearances.

23 Lucky Diamond 21 GK South Maishop 0 0
The youngest player so far to get called up for Flavovespia, Diamond has impressed in the Super League for small town South Maishop. A player who is as eccentric in appearance and off the pitch as he is on the pitch, and potentially one to watch in the future. Originally born Lucas Kevin Diamond, he was nicknamed “Lucky” and has since ran with it, using it as a first name. In terms of play he is an unconventional goalkeeper, not afraid to play as a sweeper, or to push forward if his team needs a goal, and is often far from his box. Whether he can do that at international level, we shall wait and see.

Manager Nick Cole 43
Qualification for the Cup of Harmony on their debut campaign pleased Flavovespia, but going pointless caused much disappointment, and burnt up a lot of the praise he got for even getting there. Now in his debut AOCAF, Cole will hope to at least be competitive, and give himself and the team a solid foundation for future tournaments. A manager who by team selection seems to favour selecting players by ability and not his own tactical demands, but at the same time someone who will start over again if he sees a potential long-term issue.

Formation
Officially the formation is listed as a 5-3-2. However in practice that is an over simplification. The LWB and the RWB will typically push up, roughly near to the level of the 2 holding midfielders to leave a back 3. In the midfield, usually 2 midfielders hold back, although occasionally 1 holds back and 2 go forward. Typically one midfielder lies in the slot between the midfield and the 2 attackers, and they can be the key link in the centre, with the wing backs in support down the flanks if need be. Finally the 2 attackers typically try to be of a strong man and pace man setup. Rotation of position between the attacking midfielder and a striker can happen, especially if there’s a lot of closing down in play.

Kits
Flavovespia will retain their kits from the WCQ/COH for their first AOCAF campaign. A yellow home shirt is topped off with a black double V across the top, with the reverse chosen for the away kit. Both black shorts and socks and yellow shorts and socks are registered to go with either the home or away kit, but the black is the preference unless there is a shorts and socks clash. A 3rd all white away kit is available if need be. The goalkeepers kit is all green, with the all white 3rd kit available as an alternative goalkeeper kit.

Flavovespia will utilise the same 5 stadia used in their previous campaign for their 5 home group games of AOCAF.

Hornet's Nest

The biggest stadium in Flavovespia, based in the capital city of Waldster and home of Waldster FC. A stadium that fans across the nation love to get a chance to visit, it has hosted many cup finals and domestic promotion playoff matches. The roof means all games are played in the dry, no matter what the weather is like outside, and it has a modern two-tier bowl shape with a corporate section. Now it’s the host of international games of the highest calibre. This will be the host stadium against Farfadillis on Matchday 7.

Highland Road

The oldest of all stadia in Flavovespia still in continuous use, it’s seen over a century of action and many, many great games. Renovations over time have brought it up to a modern standard, but it still maintains a classic old-school feel, with its fully open seating, and extensions built into existing parts of the ground. A fierce atmosphere can be generated by the home fans here. It’s got a classic charm that is second to none, even if parts of the stadium can show its age. This will be the host stadium against 95X on Matchday 9.

Saints Park

Not quite as old as Highland Road, or as big as Hornet’s Nest, Saints Park does have a charm of it’s own. It’s large single tier gives it a very classic feel, and the concourses behind the stands are all connected. The stadium really does feel 1 large stand that just wraps around the pitch. A fun stadium to visit, and situated in the city of St Astons, one for the more artistically and culturally minded. This will be the host stadium against Euran Oceania Territories on Matchday 1.

City Arena

The first fully enclosed football stadium in Flavovespia, and still the only major one in all of Flavovespia. It created controversy at the time, and some fans still find Marthorpe City to be a controversial side, but ultimately it is an impressive feat. The fact it can have a natural grass field as well surprises many. The indoor nature of the stadium can create an imposing atmosphere, especially for teams not expecting it. This will be the host stadium against Krytenia on Matchday 5.

Rovers Arena

Open/Closed Roof: Covered seating, open field
One of the newest stadiums in Flavovespia, it’s starting to develop its own character, and fans are finding it a popular venue to visit. The technology in the stadium is very modern, creating a unique fan experience, and there has been a lot of detail shown in the entire planning and Matchday experience of the ground. Loxthorpe Rovers should have many happy years here. This will be the host stadium against Freeport on Matchday 3.

The national team after the termination of the world cup and being rejected from CoH and a very well achieved BoF, despite not having a great performance in the qualifiers for the World Cup in Equestria and Banija, Tom Evans was the player who managed to change the rhythm of our team a little, after the preseason and the second season of local football, we saw Tom Evans head to the Ouna League in the Peto Blues team.

But why the same team? the necessary talent must be one of the best giving to take this decision to use the same equipment that was used in the BoF and in the WCQ, stopping talking about the past, the first opportunity in the AOCAF is approaching, falling into a hard group with Valanora, Vilita and Turori, Ko-Oren, Anthor and Dogsmouths.
