Time: January 1913
Place: Café Central (Vienna)

Why?

"In January 1913 alone, Josip Broz Tito, Sigmund Freud, Joseph Stalin, Hitler, and Trotsky (the latter two being regulars) were patrons of the establishment."

(Along other like Stefan Zweig, or Theodor Herzl (the father or modern Zionism))

Nearly most of the XX century unfolded from there.

Modern Propaganda, Zionism, Nazism, Communism.
All the main agents were there are the same place and time.
Who wouldn't want to eavesdrop or to intervene?

Can anyone lend me a TARDIS?

The death of Socrates. It demonstrated that democracy is corrupt and that philosophy is noble in the same instant.

Pre-War Vienna was quite the place.

Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, where Arminius defeated three Roman legions, tbh. Interesting to see, how weather, and terrain played a big role there, along with Arminius education in Rome.

The Columbian Exchange.

The sailing ships, the navigation technology, the new crops, the slavery and diseases. Good bad and the ugly, it was an unbelievable clash of civilizations.

What interests me about this era is not just the history and technology, which defines most eras. It was also interesting from biodiversity perspective, an immunology perspective, and how it brought together three entire continents and three major human races that had rarely made contact before. It is interesting how the slave trade, an African-European phenomenon, interacted with a Native American-European colonial phenomenon.

I go through phases where I'll obsess over something then drop it for something else... I keep going back to WWII (eastern front, obscure campaigns or events, Atlantic war), Cold War, WWI (AEF), US Civil War... Right now I'm on a kick of German colonialism 1860-1919 (hence my NS nation which is a hypothetical as if the colony of German East Africa fought for independence in 1918 rather than surrender), and the interwar (1918-1930s) European conflicts. American school acts like from 1918 to 1939 Europe was all hunkey-doorey until the big bad Germans had to stir the pot again, not even mentioning the communist revolutions in Germany, Ukraine, the Polish-Soviet War, Ukraine-Polish War, Ukriane civil war, the Baltic independence wars, etc. Shooting wars in Europe never stopped they just didn't include the Americans, British or French anymore so we don't care about it. 1914-1945 could be seen as one long, continual European internal conflict with serious flare ups until about the early 60's.

Probably the late Roman Republic and Roman Empire during the Principate...it's amazing just how modern a lot of things were in that period in terms of economics, trade and urban society.

It's probably the Roman Republic or late 19th century Germany.
