WELCOME TO THE 48TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL

St Christopher, Llalta

DRAFT THREAD - IC THREAD

Welcome to Llalta!

Llalta has won the 47th World Hit Festival, which took place in the Overseeing country of Britonisea, for the first time ever. And with the great honour of winning the World Hit Festival, we travel to Llalta for what will be a spectacular showing of the 48th World Hit Festival.

Fabio McAlpine
World Hit Festival Overseer

What is the World Hit Festival?
The World Hit Festival (WHF) is a multiversal song competition. Each nation shall enter 1 song and 1 artist, and it shall be 'performed' via roleplay. Most nations tend to use a real-life tune as a musical backing, but every entry submitted to the World Hit Festival is required to have original lyrics (ie. if you submit a tune, you must re-write the lyrics), so this does mean that instrumental entries are blocked from entering the contest.

WHF operates with three threads, the OOC, Draft, and IC threads. The one you are seeing now is the OOC/Sign-ups thread, the main place for you to discuss the contest, reveal your entrant, etc. All OOC chatter goes here. The Draft Thread, opened by the host, is the second thread opened up during a WHF contest, and this draft thread is where nations will post and work on their entries until a deadline determined by the host. The IC thread, also opened by the host is the third and final thread attached to a WHF, and it is where the host will transfer your entries.

The World Hit Festival has had a very long history in NationStates, and a thread by the second overseer (Euskirribakondara) has been created to compile this long history. Click here for a thread with links to every OOC and IC thread of all World Hit Festivals so far. Click this for a statistical database of all WHF participants. For winners, click here to see a full list of all WHF winners with links to their entries.

Schedule (Dates TBC due to WV changes)
Draft Thread Opens: 24th Octobber
Sign-Ups Close: 3rd November

Draft Thread Closes, IC Thread Up: 13th November
Voting Deadline: 20th November
Grand Final Winner Known By: 27th November

For WHF veterans, this sign-up form will look very familiar as it is the same sign-up form for the past 15 editions. However, for debutantes, I have provided a sample application using WHF32's winning entry in a spoiler, with explanations in brackets.

Nation: Euskirribakondara (name of your nation goes here)
Broadcaster: EUSK1 (name of your broadcaster goes here, and this is usually your national broadcaster that would broadcast the WHF. For a real life comparison, think of the BBC in the UK.)

Song Title: "По, Дај Ми Любавте" (name of your song)
Artist: Nadija Djokanović (the name of the artist that will 'perform' the song in your roleplay.)
Language(s): Sirbadian, Euskal, Hinga (the language(s) that your lyrics will be performed in)
Title Transcription (if required): "Po, Daj Mi Ljubavte" (if your song's language utilizes another script such as Cyrillic, you would put the romanization of that title here. In this example, По, Дај Ми Любавте is Po, Daj Mi Ljubavte. Otherwise, this part can be omitted.)
Title Translation (if required): Come On, Give Me Your Love (the translation of your song's title to English. If your song is in English already, this part can also be omitted.)
Tune: Here (most WHF tunes will have tunes attached to them, such as this entry using Poli Genova's If Love Was a Crime. If you are using a tune, do provide a link of the tune in this form. However, there are cases in which users do not submit a tune and use self-penned songs, in which case, filling out this part is not required.)

Pick a number that's available HERE: Pick a number between 1-30 (subject to change) if it hasn't already been taken!

Your Trigramme: You three letter national code that will be used during the broadcast of the 47th World Hit Festival. In case of a dispute, nations registered on the NS list of trigrammes will take priority before a "first come, first serve" rule.

Interesting Fact about Act: (Optional) If you would like to provide interesting facts about your artist, it would go a long way in trying to help me piece together some RP during the competition. Expect that, if this is filled out, I will contact you via DM/Discord to ask a question to your artist a question or two. This will form part of the breaks between entries/interval acts.

Head of Delegation: (The Head of Delegation is the person who is in charge of your delegation at the 47th World Hit Festival. If you have already provided information about this, you do not have to fill this part of the form out)

Participating Nations: As of November 5th
  1. Achaean Republic [AS1] Nadine Tanóus - Almalayika

Rules and Procedures
Contest
  1. A nation is allowed to submit 2 puppets maximum to the contest, meaning that a user can be controlling at most 3 nations in the contest.
  2. Nations must send a full ranking of all nations on the IC Thread to the host of the competition when the voting opens.
  3. The nation ranked first will receive 5 points, the nation ranked second will receive 4 points etc. Nations ranked 6th or below will not receive any points.
  4. Users are allowed to receive 8 points maximum from their puppets. Meaning, a user with three nations can use Nation B and C (with B and C giving 4 points each) to give Nation A 8 points total, but nothing more.
  5. If there is a draw the countback system goes as follows: Amount of nations - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - First To Send Full Votes To Host.
  6. A nation is also expected to vote, but there is no penalty for not voting. The host will make up your votes in the event that they do not have your votes. Nations are expected not to reveal whether they have voted or not. Only the Host (and the Overseer if needs be) should know who has voted and who hasn't.
  7. All or at least most of the written lyrics must be original. Should any user spot any concerns, don't hesitate to let the overseer or current host know.
  8. In order for Semi Finals to be initiated, there must be enough nations for there to be 14 nations per Semi Final. The number of participants before Semi Finals are initiated will be dependent on circumstances.
  9. In the unlikely event of there being 40 or more complete entries, the top 5 from last edition (including the host) will qualify automatically to the Grand Final.
  10. The maximum amount of nations that can participate at any World Hit Festival is 47 (including the host).
Hosting
  1. The winner of the competition will automatically be given the right to host the competition. The winner will have 72 hours (maximum) to announce their interest in hosting the Festival to the Overseer.
  2. The host must not reveal their acceptance of hosting until the Overseer has announced it on the WHF Network.
  3. If within the first 72 hours, the host either doesn't announce their interest in hosting the proceeding contest or declines hosting rights, the nation who came 2nd will be asked. If declined five times, the World Hit Overseer has to host the World Hit Festival.
  4. If the host abandons their host duties, the World Hit Overseer will be responsible for what left needs to be done.
  5. We would like to ensure all World Hit Festival hosts can host the competition to the best of their ability. If you have any concerns about hosting if given the opportunity to, don't hesitate to speak to the World Hit Overseer.

OFFICIAL INFORMATION - WHF 48, ST. CHRISTOPHER, LLALTA

Image

Llalta welcomes the world with open arms for it’s very first hosting of the World Hit Festival! After 7 editions since Llalta’s debut in the 40th World Hit Festival, Chiara Albanthia, with her beautiful operatic symphony “Timeless”, managed to sweep Kyvivre and the world with her moving melody, bringing home first at last to the small island nation. However, not only was this momentous being that such a small nation won, but also that Llalta will also host the prestigious contest, in what’s described as Llalta’s heart: St. Christopher. Say au revoir to the beautiful shores of Britonisea, put on your gloves, hats and coats as we take flight to St. Christopher, Llalta; the crown jewel of the oceans!

Image

St. Christopher is Llalta’s largest town, with a population of 2,983. Though cold and somewhat insignificant, what St. Christopher lacks in size and technology, it makes up for in community and charm. Built in 1856 to accommodate for the newly established coal industry formed on the island, it is filled to the brim with history, stories waiting to be discovered and streets to be explored. With winding alleys meandering through the town and shops with fairy tale products, the town is one of a story. It is packed with museums, coffee shops down back alleys, clothes only found in Llalta, and secrets within each step! It is a port town, with the hustle and bustle of market day once a week on a Saturday, where local produce and goods are sold and bought. The many restaurants give one the taste of true Llaltese seafood too, filling your taste buds with tastes only Llalta can give you. Moreover, one could even hike into the vast Albanthia mountains that border St. Christopher, and explore the huge stretches of forest, and adventure through the endless abandoned buildings lost to time. No matter what you do, St. Christopher is a place of boundless opportunities and a million stories to unfold!

Café Contura - Chrysanthemum Alley - Ruins of Caltheg - Yellow Brick Road

For the first time ever in World Hit Festival history, the world famous contest will be hosted in one of Llalta’s most important aspects: the seas! The once world-renowned ship S.S. Trinity, known for conquering the oceans during the World Wars during early to mid-20th century, went to ruin on the island of Llalta, used as both a historical site and a playground for kids. Once feared as it travelled across the length and breadth of the world, now a mere shell of its former self. However, with the recent victory during WHF 47, the search for venue also begun. Llalta being small and unpopulated, there are naturally very few buildings that could host even 500 people at most. Eventually, discussions of a ship venue were brought to the drawing board. It was soon then refurbished into a theatre, the Trinity Theatre, with a seating capacity of 1,000 people. Though small compared to other editions where over 10,000 is the norm, the advantages outweigh the bad, and will bring a unique experience only an island such as Llalta can accomplish!

Image

The stage this edition, though again smaller, certainly it makes up for in design and versatility! Designed by Llaltese architect, Enrique Salmon, it represents the whole sky theme of this edition. Particularly, the lights representing stars in the night sky. It's most unique and stand out aspect is the arch that frames the simplistic yet effective stage. It is filled with larger LED lights that can do it all, from sparkle to strobe. The stage itself consists of a platform, with a circular stage front and centre, with steps on the stage. However, the stage is also an LED panel that can be used to show graphics, allowing for many different options and ideas to come to life! The back wall is also an LED panel, and like the floor, is able to boost a performance and allow for the best possible performance. The lights hanging from the ceiling and from the floor can be taken offstage or onstage at will, allowing for even more creativity in one's performance! Pyrotechnics and other stage features are also available for usage.

The host for this edition of the World Hit Festival is renowned actor and presenter, Erik McGarisson. At 75 years of age, he is one of the oldest men in acting and presenting, starting his career at only age 6. Born and raised in St. Christopher, he has been in hit TV shows from Cold Blooded, Sugar, Twyneville and has even made appearances in Britonish televisions. Not to mention hosting shows such as, Llaltese Dancing Qween, Celebrity Hunted and so on so forth. He has even hosted his own talk show since 2000, McGarisson Files, which one of the most popular shows around the world with high ratings. He has even made appearances in WorldVision, being the Llaltese spokesperson each edition that they have participated in, making him fairly well known throughout both WorldVision and the World Hit Festival.

Fromulya confirms participation!

Our entry, to the tune of La Neige au Sahara by Anggun, will be called Salju di Sahara, which translates to English as "Snow on the Sahara". Despite the same meaning, we assure that the lyrical content and themes of the song will be different.

Aaaand confirming Skanden's participation.

I'm not exactly sure on which tune we'll send but currently the top of the tune queue for Skanden is Cruel Angel's Thesis, the Evangelion theme song.
