It had been a few days since Saud waited for a response from the Egyptian government, and now, the response had finally came, written by the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs.As he read the letter over and over, studying it thoroughly with extreme caution and patience, his face portrayed much interest and concentration towards the letter.At the same time, his advisers stood straight, nervously waiting for his response.Soon enough, in an elegant manner, Saud stood up from his chair and faced his advisers eye-to-eye."Gentlemen, it seems that Allah is on our side.The Egyptians had given their response, and for all we know, they're begging for the Americans to intervene", the Crown Prince paused for a few seconds before resuming his speech.

"If things go as planned, with the September Plan ratified with the Americans by this month, we will have a leverage in our diplomacy with the British", before he could continue, one of his advisers bravely spoke up."Your Highness, forgive me but as we have a leverage, the Americans in our affairs, we can force the British to leave the Suez by force?", asked the adviser."Correct!That is what we are aiming for!The war of diplomacy shall be ours to claim victory!", shouted the Crown Prince in a rousing tone.All his advisers were able to quickly understand his goal, replying with simple nods to his words.

The Kremlin was buzzing with activity. The General Secretary and Foreign Minister were both discussing international matters, and there were several telegrams sent by neighboring nations that sought aid from the USSR. Even with the crisis in Gibraltar, there was another issue with the Egyptians and the Suez Canal. Vasily Sokolovsky, the Minister of Defense, was closely analyzing the situations transpiring around the world. British intervention in Egypt is a strong possibility, even if a war can be avoided No one wanted a nuclear war, and the USSR managed to maintain the secrecy of their nuclear tests weeks ago, so the Allies may be emboldened by their perception of American dominance in that field. The Suez Canal will also be an issue discussed at the UN meeting, and Sokolovsky believed there was going to be major diplomatic repercussions for whoever is unfortunate enough to "lose" the stand off. It was unlikely that the USSR would intervene in the crisis, although they did seek a peaceful resolution.

The Suez Crisis isn't the only thing bothering Vasily Sokolovsky. The recent bombings in Stockholm and paramilitary activity in the city had the potential of creating yet another smoking gun for a third world war. With over 200,000 troops stationed in Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union had the capability of spreading the revolution to nearby nations, but the cost of the Second World War and the upcoming Comecon made that much more difficult. A civil war is brewing in Sweden, and if the communists can establish themselves as a trustworthy and semi legitimate government, Sokolovsky believed the General Secretary may allow military deployments, although it was way too early to make a decision on it yet.

Next, was the creation of the The Southern Atlantic and Oceanic Treaty Organisation , which was clearly an accomplice to the NATO alliance and meant to isolate the Soviet Union and her allies further. Stalin had recently announced his own alliance proposal to counter the West, which was to be held in Russia. Warsaw, the capital of the Polish People's Republic, was still recovering from the horrors of German occupation, and Stalin believed the city could act as a memorial. A permanent reminder of what a third world war would do to the rest of humanity. In fact, the Soviets believed the damage sustained to Warsaw was so bad that the capital should be relocated to Łodź. Reconstruction efforts have already been underway since the final months of World War Two, with architects using paintings and other forms of documentation to recreate the city from scratch. Warsaw would be symbolic in the struggle for the workers, and also will be the host to a new mutual defense alliance: The Warsaw Pact. By gathering these nations under a single military treaty, the USSR could guarantee the protection of its satellite states

Another issue, although not problematic, was Yugoslavia requesting aid and Romania wanted to receive the Moldovan USSR. Yugoslavia was definitely a country the USSR wanted to keep within the sphere of the Eastern Bloc, and Romania seeking to reunite their lands weren't a major concern either. The Soviet Union could make quick money and move the borders slightly, losing out on barely anything. The western republics acted not much differently than the USBR anyway.

Meanwhile, on the Malay Peninsula, Field Marshal William Slim, with his headquarters in Hong Kong but he was here commanding British forces, was trying to put down a revolution by Malaysian communists known as the Malayan National Liberation Army, with suggested backing from the Soviet Union, although not confirmed. A new force is due to arrive from Australia, the Australian 3rd Corp, with has a total of 50,000 troops and 400 British tanks, to reinforce the 351,000 Commonwealth troops already fighting on the Peninsula against the estimate of 200,000 MNLA troops and guerrillas. They had air support from RAF bases in Singapore and Hong Kong, along with HMS Ark Royal. They have managed to retain control of most of the Peninsula, but are mounting casualties fast.

The USBR will begin construction of primary lines connecting Sofia to Belgrade and Bucharest to Zagreb. Then we will connect the smaller cities. Chervenkov absorbed the Moldovan SSR into itself and began to assimilate itself into the SBS of Romania. The Odessa Oblast from the Ukrainian SSR was added to the SBS Romania and the Russian population was allowed to stay and was granted representation in our Assembly. They were given 1 seats in our 500 strong unicameral assembly. The new lands were immediately included in proposals such as the railway plan. We wish to extend the railway into the USSR to enlarge it and better the economy of Eastern Europe as a whole. Parhon began the implementation of the Warsaw Pact into the USBR. We will start by boosting funding to our military and creating a domestic military industrial complex, incentivising the new people from Bessarabia to move over and work in those industries. After generating enough profit and capital the USBR will start to construct new bases and create three new port cities.

Things were beginning to calm down, but only very slightly. Britain would not attack the Suez, and the possibility of war with the west was finally tempering. However, this resulted in Spain focusing itself on other objectives, such as a potential invasion of Morrocco that had been aborted due to the Gibraltar blockade. Despite Caballero's insistence on it, the defence ministry claimed that it was 'not the right time' for an invasion of Morrocco due to the still precarious state of international politics. However, they recommended Spain take several undertakings in order to prepare for war, and Caballero agreed. The nature of these undertakings would be announced in a recorded statement by Caballero, which was somewhat of a rarity due to the scarcity of cameras in the post-civil war wreck that Spain now was.

The statement went as follows:
"People of Spain and others concerned in the international community, as you know there have been several turbulent events recently across the world, specifically in Gibraltar and the Suez. Spain needs to mobilise and prepare its military for these turbulent times. I can announce that Spain will be doing so. Firstly, we will hold a series of ordnance tests on and around Alboran Island between the 7th and 17th of October. During this testing of ordanance, there will be 4 large explosions occurring on and within 150m of the island, and we advise all shipping travelling through the Alboran Sea to keep that in mind and be aware of where they travel. In addition to the tests on Alboran, there will also be a mock amphibious landing on Ibiza and several military activities occuring in mainland Spain. We may also announce more millitary operations after the upcoming ones have taken place. Good night and Viva España."

But Egypt's concerns had been more immediate. The Armed Forces were, at that point, ready for the invasion that the Defense Ministry and generals were sure would happen. But then, finally, a response: Churchill had put the matter to the British Parliament. Parliament. "So, the fate of our country rested in the hands of a vote, and not a government that had been given the authority to act on foreign affairs?" King Farouk uttered to Aly Pasha. "As sadistic as it seems, Your Majesty, we now have some breathing room. Churchill either felt that he didn't have a mandate for one action or the other, that or his government was divided. Either way, the ball is in our court. I think that we should respond with an act of goodwill, as well, to show the world we are not here in bad faith. With Your Majesty's permission, we can issue an executive order delaying the implementation of the Suez Canal Nationalization Act for a month, until October 20th of this year. We will most likely get an earful from some of the more nationalist and hawkish parties, but so long as we are able to secure the Suez Canal-" "I am not concerned about your electoral politics, Prime Minister. All that matters is that the Suez Canal becomes Egyptian, and that their troops withdraw entirely from Egypt. And yes, you have my permission to delay implementation of the Act."

His Majesty's Government is cautiously optimistic that negotiations between the Kingdom of Egypt and Sudan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland regarding the Suez Canal, among other lingering matters, will proceed soon. The Government yesterday decreed that the Suez Canal Nationalization Act's implementation shall be delayed until 20 October, 1949, in order to guarantee a reasonable timetable for negotiations to take place.

In response, the African Socialist Telegraph, the official newspaper of the ASPG, print out cartoons showing Brazil, China and many other Western-aligned developing nations being driven like cattle as willing slaves owned by an Anglo-American Empire. Large VF banners swayed in the first winter winds across the city, the red rifle and hammer emblazoned upon the black field. Oskar Nils stood, looking out his new office window. A week before he had been the leader of men who were forced to hide in cellars. Now, he and the VF were ascendant, the true government of Sweden and pushing out from Stockholm.

Smiling, he turned around and faced the picture camera that he had brought into his office. Unlike those of the past, this Revolution would be broadcast. Speaking into a microphone on his desk, the speech came out clear and concise "To the men, women, and children of Sweden and the World. This is Provisional Governor of Sweden, Oskar Nils, broadcasting from Stockholm. I am speaking to you over radio, as well as recording my speech today, so that the world may hear my voice unmoderated. I am sure you have heard many things about the actions we were forced to take in Stockholm a little under a week ago. While I need not justify these to Monarchists and Conservatives, I know that many among you have been misled by other perpetrators of opression to believe that this was an unprovoked attack. This is false. For years now the king and his government have dragged their feet and sealed away our people from the outside world. They stole our rights as citizens, and denied those who sought refuge on our shores.

If I may quote the American Declaration of Independence 'When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.' The crimes of our monarchy are numerous, and we have seen fit to seperate our country from them. Our cause is just and legal, we are the Swedish people, and this is our choice. The "General's Council" as the military had taken to calling themselves was as arrogant as Erlander's government had been. Not only had they refused the aid that the HF had offered them, but they had left it on no uncertain terms that the HF were to disband, or be disbanded. No. He wouldn't let that happen. He had fought too long, too hard for his people. He would stand his ground against military tyranny and Communist assault. The HF would stand tall into the future.

With the Swedish situation devolving into civil war, the Prime Minister considers his options with Chief of the General Staff Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, Minister of Defense A. V. Alexander , First Lord of the Admiralty George Hall, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ernest Bevin, and commander of the Special Air Service Field Marshal Alan Brooke. "If Sweden falls to communism, it could be a catastrophe for NATO forces in Europe. But, we can't intervene with the main forces as it will give the Soviet Union a casus belli for war against the West. Any options, gentleman?" Ernest Bevin speaks up first "There are 3 factions in the Swedish Civil War at the moment, the Vänsterförsvar, a communist group who currently holds Stockholm, and the Herrförsvar, which is a anti-communist group with its headquarters in Malmo. There is also the General's Council, who has been NATO supporting. The Swedish Government has been dissolved and reformed by the Vänsterförsvar, but the General's Council control most of the military. Our best bet for a democratic state to be restored to Sweden is by the General's Council."

Montgomery speaks out second "As the British military can't get directly involved without triggering the Soviet Union and possibly the United Nations Security Council, that means that we have very limited options to support the Council. If the Soviets wasn't a problem, than we could send a small force of normal troops to intervene. But, we need all of our forces to defend the Empire, except for one. Prime Minister, I present Field Marshal Alan Brooke, commander of the Special Air Service." Alan steps up "Sir, the Special Air Service is perfect for this matter, but with the lack of transport planes and gliders, it would be hard to get them in there undetected." George Hall steps up "But, HMS Ark Royal has a group of transport helicopters that could land our forces near their headquarters when we find it. But, it would have to be under the cover of night, so the Soviets have no chance of finding our ships with submarines. We can be ready as soon as the Special Air Service are on board." The Prime Minister responds "Excellent, Ernest, I want the British Embassy in Stockholm evacuated, as we don't support a communist government. They will be evacuated by Ark Royal's helicopters to London. From the Ark Royal a helicopter will transport one of our diplomats to The General Council's HQ once we find it, where he hopefully will talk to the commander of the General's Council about having the 22 Special Air Service Regiment of 400 men there to assist their forces. Brooke, if they say yes, I want boots on the ground by 0900 hrs the next day. You will personally lead this operation, along with give daily reports to Field Marshal Montgomery, who will report them to me. Understood?" All the men say "Yes Sir!" "Then get to work"

A group of 5 Westland Dragonfly transport helicopters have begun the evacuation of the British Embassy in Stockholm. Doing it without the authorization of the Swedish Government, they plan to have them move southbound towards the Ark Royal to refuel, and then fly to Oldenburg to refuel, and then finally to London, England until the civil war is over.

A civil war is brewing in Sweden, and if the communists can establish themselves as a trustworthy and semi legitimate government, Sokolovsky believed the General Secretary may allow military deployments, although it was way too early to make a decision on it yet.

Next, was the creation of the The Southern Atlantic and Oceanic Treaty Organisation , which was clearly an accomplice to the NATO alliance and meant to isolate the Soviet Union and her allies further. Stalin had recently announced his own alliance proposal to counter the West, which was to be held in Russia. Warsaw, the capital of the Polish People's Republic, was still recovering from the horrors of German occupation, and Stalin believed the city could act as a memorial. A permanent reminder of what a third world war would do to the rest of humanity. In fact, the Soviets believed the damage sustained to Warsaw was so bad that the capital should be relocated to Łodź. Reconstruction efforts have already been underway since the final months of World War Two, with architects using paintings and other forms of documentation to recreate the city from scratch. Warsaw would be symbolic in the struggle for the workers, and also will be the host to a new mutual defense alliance: The Warsaw Pact. By gathering these nations under a single military treaty, the USSR could guarantee the protection of its satellite states

Another issue, although not problematic, was Yugoslavia requesting aid and Romania wanted to receive the Moldovan USSR. Yugoslavia was definitely a country the USSR wanted to keep within the sphere of the Eastern Bloc, and Romania seeking to reunite their lands weren't a major concern either. The Soviet Union could make quick money and move the borders slightly, losing out on barely anything. The western republics acted not much differently than the USBR anyway.

The USBR would like to sell arms to the communist members in British South Africa, Rhodesia, and the Belgian Congo. We can sell guns and a domestically produced small troop transport.

"We are very much willing to take arms sales," De Klair began, interested, "But we cannot pay you until after the war, and we cannot fully repay it all until a decade or two afterwards. How many guns are you willing to ship and which models?"

Spain had been watching the situation in Sweden very carefully now a practical civil war had ensued. Despite warnings from his advisors, Caballero was resolute that joint military action by socialist powers in favour of the VF had to remain on the table. However, he was first to discuss this with Stalin and see what the potential options were.

CLASSIFIED MESSAGE FROM FRANCISCO LARGO CABALLERO TO JOSEPH STALIN

Dear Chairman,
As you know, there has been a worrying situation developing in Sweden. The state has descended into a civil war. Spain believes that the socialist republics should consider all options available in order to bring Sweden to a stable, socialist government. And by 'all options' I do include all forms of military action. I look forward to hearing from you about this matter.
