Adora Cup Friendly Club Tournament (everything thread)

Postby Tamgu » Sat Sep 21, 2019 2:02 pm

The Tamguna car manufacturer Adora has sponsored a friendly tournament looking to advertise their brand and let the top clubs of the multiverse compare themselves between each other. This will be a friendly tournament as its name suggests, however, there is a bit of prize money in the end that could be quite useful. Besides that, the winner will take home a shiny golden trophy that will look great on their trophy cabinet until people look closely at what trophy it is. The Tamguna Federation of Football is proud to be hosting the tournament with the ground such as Tamgouuspad Eneu Serveda, with the capacity of 95 thousand spectators, and the Remeno Olimpiyad Serveda with the capacity of 79 thousand.

-16 teams will participate in this tournament.
-Every nation can only submit one club. Puppets can too. Submissions are done by posting a club roster.
-Skill will be randomized between 3-5.
-Home advantage will not be applied because it will be played on neutral grounds in Tamgu.
-The clubs will be separated into 2 groups, the top 2 of which will advance after 2 games.
-The remaining 4 will compete in a knockout format.

-Clubs submitted need a full roster with at least:
A Name, List of First eleven and substitutes.

Edit 25/09: Due to a lack of interest a name is now enough to participate. If there isn't enough teams in the tournament by September 28th, the tournament will change format to either just a knockout or a big group tournament.
(Please try to give more information though.)

-Optional Information:
Style modifier (recommended), Club crest, Nickname, Manager and Technical Squad, Kit, a 5-page paragraph about players, a 7-page paragraph about playstyle.

Soria Union is interested to participate, since we're in the offseason of Lisanderian Football. Is this a signup topic or everything topic? If latter, I'll later update this post with proper info.

In defensive situations, the CAM will drop back to CM. The two strikers up front have great chemistry. Inside runs to the box are rare, crossing is preferred. Full backs give support to an extent, they will not take many risks when going forward.

A few hours before Game 1
Armano Arena
Tamgu
5:10 pm

Kickoff for the first couple of games would be in a few hours. Phil Thomas will host a small party in his suite at their hotel. Beforehand, some of the players decided to have an informal practice in Armano Arena beforehand.

After running through their paces, the girls had a brief scrimmage. After a quick shower, they would walk back to the hotel, change clothes and head up to Phil Thomas’ suite.

As they walked back home, Hattie Lowenthal and Erin Height talked a bit.

“You looked good out there,” Lowenthal said. “You make it look easy.”

Height scored the lone goal in the scrimmage.

“When my family lived in Threlizdun, most of the soccer teams were all boys. If I wanted to play, I had to be good.”

“So, you think we have a chance?”

“At the tournament?”

“Yes. Do we have a chance?”

“If the starters play as well as what we just saw, I’d say so.”

“I see.”

Lowenthal agreed with Height. She just wasn’t convinced that the starters were as good as they were billed.

“That Banner is a beast.” Height interrupted Lowenthal’s thoughts.

“Come again?”

“Dora Banner. I’m surprised I got that one past her.”

“You wrong-footed her, and she still almost got a hand on it.”

“And Medrano: She must be able to read minds or something.”

“It’s uncanny, how she stops ‘em.”

“We have a good chance.”

“We do.” Lowenthal still has her doubts about the starters.

Phil Thomas, the leading striker for the Eagles, is also well-conected in the Allied States. His father was the Minister of Foreign Affairs. His grandfather ran for President more than a decade ago. The district where he lives in Nassau State is currently represented by his older brother.

Because of his connections, he opted out of his assigned room and is staying in the Presidential Suite. Many of the Eagles have gathered in the living room area and are enjoying the first games of the Adora Tournament.

As Thomas is in the kitchen, talking with a couple of the two other starting strikers, cheers erupt the living room area.

“Dave, what just happened?”

“Curumba just scored.”

Dave Richman is referring to Real Curumba, the Eagles’ first opponent in the tournament. They’re playing Pritoria Igno, the host team.

Richman is also well-connected. His cousin, Nathan Ball Richman, is the richest man in the Allied States. His cousin and his grandfather both ran for President of the Allied States.

“When are the freshmen coming up?”

“After halftime. They’re doing some sort of bonging exercise.”

“Bonding exercise, Dave.”

There is a knock on the door. Erin Height lets herself and the other girls in. They’re all wearing long, flowery dresses and sandals. Some look as if they’ve just taken a shower.

“All right, all right! Ladies, come on in.”

Dolfo Martinez is sitting on the couch with a beer in one hand and a girl in the other. Martinez’ isn’t quite as well-connected as Thomas or Richman, but his grandfather was a former Vice President.

“So, where have you been?”

“Coach Hawkins wanted us to do this bonding session thing at the field,” Hattie Lowenthal said.

“More like Coach Lowenthal,” Erin Height said.

“Good,” Thomas says. “Lowenthal’s clearly a natural leader. We’ll need that.”

Lowenthal smiles. She suddenly has an abundance of confidence in one of the starters.

“Well, girls,” Martinez waves them toward the living room couch, “Find yourself a seat. Don’t crowd the doorway. Room service is coming in a few minutes.

Pritoria Igno's Stadium, Ignolodio (Hell)

4 PM before MD1

The Igno players get ready for the bus trip to the capital. Şannavaro enters the bus last as usual. Although he seems old, grumpy, cold and tough from the outside, he is a very nice and friendly man, often pretty soft too. He acts like his players' father, and this makes the team bond more than anything.

Just like a normal Igno bus journey, he sits next to his (secret) favorite Toy Estogas, the keeper that he has worked with for ten years now. He strikes up a conversation.

"Hey, are you a little nervous?"

"Yeah, I kinda am. We don't know these people."

"Oh don't worry at all" He says, with a comforting smile on his face. "It's just a couple of friendlies"

"But...Won't a lot of people be watching? I don't wanna screw up. I have no idea how to prepare for them. And neither do you."

"Well yeah, maybe we don't know who we are coming up against, but just play like your usual self and it will be a breeze. Plus, if we don't know about them, how good can they be?"

The striker bros Paletar Soros and Ante Nekir in the back start singing Domle Hala Arttara, a widely known Igno chant. The entire bus starts singing along, Şannavaro gets up and starts singing too, at the top of his lungs.

At this point, the bus reached the TTPK highway, mostly used by coaches and trucks. The view outside wasn't perfect, they mostly just saw the industrial areas and farmlands. The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful with a few more chants and a pee break right in the middle of the journey.

"Hey, is it ok for us to pee here?" Nekir asked. "Just do your business, it's legal." Soros replied.

Eren Postas let out a big old fart and made the awkward situation unbearable. Somebody passing saw them but they couldn't take a photo because the tall and scary Dano Teilar just giving him a death stare.

When they finally arrived at the Capital at 6 PM, they quickly got ready for the match and started warming up. Real Curumba, Their opponent had already come and were worried that they weren't at the correct place. Which was weird because there was still an hour remaining to kickoff.

An hour later, the players took their positions and the referee blew his whistle.

An entertaining match with six goals ended with the scoreline 4-2 for Igno. The hosts' team has made a good start and they aim to win the tournament and get the crucial money they need to close their debt.

Andromeda News Network
Special Adora Cup Coverage
6:20 am

After covering local news and weather, the main sports story on the Andromeda News Network this morning involves the Soccer Games in Tamgu that ended just a few hours ago. It was the Andromeda Eagles’ Debut on the world stage. They played their first game in international competition against Pritoria Igno, a team in Tamgu, which is hosting the Adora Cup. Rose Jackson filed her report a few hours ago from Armano Arena in Tamgu. When Jackson reported, there are still some fans left in the stadium.

JACKSON: Thanks, Billy. The Andromeda Eagles debuted against Pritoria Igno here at Armano Arena. While their efforts didn’t produce a win, it was perhaps the most exciting game thus far.

(cut to first half highlights)

JACKSON: It was a high scoring affair. Forward Phil Thomas scored at the 20-minute mark to tie the game at 1 apiece. Less than 10 minutes later, Thomas set up Sharon Tucker for their second goal and a 2-1 lead. Paaletar Soros and Ante Nekir responded with two goals, giving Pritorio Igno a 3-2 halftime lead.

(cut to second half highlights)

JACKSON: After the hosts scored their fourth goal, Coach Jones, fearing a blowout, replaced goalie Steve Young with Rachel Medrano, who shut out Pritorio Igno for the rest of the game. Dolfo Martinez scored the Eagles 3rd goal at the 75-minute mark. It looked as if Pritorio would hold on, until midfielder Erin Height managed to intercept a pass and kick it to Oona Kerry. Kerry then threaded the needle and scored the Eagles’ fourth goal with mere seconds left in regulation. The Eagles slip out with a 4-4 draw against the Host Club.

(cut to Rose Jackson and Coach Meena Jones.)

JACKSON: With me to discuss the game is Eagles Head Coach Meena Jones. Coach Jones, it certainly was, as billed by the local press, ‘the main event.’

JONES: It certainly was, Rose. We played an impressive Pritoria Igno club. Our players left everything on the field and were fortunate to salvage a draw. Neither team deserved to lose.

JACKSON: And neither did. How do you feel about the offense?

JONES: All four of our starting front-liners scored, so we have the balance we’ve been looking for. We’d like to be in a situation where we have several options to put it in.

JACKSON: Early in the second half, you put Rachel Medrano back in at Goalie.

JONES: We were down 4-2. Rachel has more experience at the highest levels of our game back home, and Steve Young was just out of his element. We wanted to prevent a blowout.

JACKSON: And that goal by Kerry, the buzzer-beater.

JONES: I was a little surprised too, Rose, but Oona was bound and determined. She had just enough light in that corner and got us even.

JACKSON: Final thoughts?

JONES: Coach Sannavaro and Pritoria have a good quality team. If we can both maintain the determination we had tonight, we should meet again very soon.

JACKSON: With Coach Meena Jones and the Andromeda Eagles, this is Rose Jackson. Back to you, Billy.

A Ballad of Ice and Fire; Forent's Journey to the Adora Cup Championship
Tamgouuspad - In a dreaded era of domestic football, many have led to speculation and worry about the future of the multiverse-renowned competition, the UICA Champions Cup, and its associate contests. Unforeseen forces have coerced the organization to remain dormant beyond its time of revival, affecting not only the tournaments associated directly with UICA, but the many regional and subregional contests that piggy-backed on the giant for their own coverage. The drought may have brought an indefinite end to the superstar showdown as we knew it, but many smaller tournaments look to take up the reigns for the future, with one competition coming from a small nation in the North Pacific.

Introducing the Adora Cup: an upstart display of semi-competitive club football hosted by WC newcomer, Tamgu. The contest, held by a car manufacturer of the same name as the tournament, unintentionally featured 6 teams from across the multiverse compete for a jolt of domestic glory. These clubs would be divided into 2 groups of 3, play 2 matches, and advance to knockouts, so long as they weren't dead last. A semi final is contested before determining the 2 squads who'd represent their nations in the title fight of the tournament.

Somehow, this is where a club from the icy depths of the Crystalline Caverns comes in and does work. From a city with no real culture other than being under ice, Forent Vosperse had managed to survive not only their 2 group adversaries, but their semi final matchup as well, setting themselves up to take on the only other technically undefeated team left in the show. But before we get to them, why not talk a little talk about the matches leading up to it, eh? Gotta give the headline something to connect with!

For the group stage, Forent was drawn to play Soria Union (Lisander) and Reds Fedek U-23 (Bolgano), a rather daring group if I may say. Despite having 2 venues for the group, both of Forent's matches took place at the Olimpiyad Serveda in Remeno, the largest city in the host country. Against all conceivable odds, Vosperse had managed to upset Soria Union in dominating fashion, topping the Lisander squad 3-0 right off the bat. Said Lisander squad would ultimately succumb to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Reds Fedek, whom clashed with our side in match 3 to determine who takes the top spot in the group (despite both already qualifying for the knockouts). In a tense match, Forent Vosperse came out on top, edging the U23 side, 1-0, making the main Reds Fedek look even scarier. From there, the Cavernite side finally got to get out of Remeno and enter Kroinen, home of their semi-final matchup with HUElavia's Real Curumba, a strong club that grazed above the line of death after subduing Andromeda Eagles to advance. Despite their strength and, well, experience as a club, Curumba fell in a shock victory for Forent, who took the semi 3-2.

Now we can talk about our big opponent: PISK. Better known as Pritoria Igno or by their moniker as the Flames, the club represented the host nation themselves, and restrain they did not when it came to fighting international opponents. With a strong 4-2 victory over Real Curumba and a 4-4 goalfest of a draw with Andromeda Eagles, Pritoria Igno made no mistake in defending their turf in a competition like this. While Reds Fedek was able to push them past extra time with a score of 2-2, the Flames guaranteed championship rights by topping the Bolgano side 4-3 in penalties.

Alas, we reach the capital of Tamgouuspad, where a stadium as massive as one can get awaits two domestic adversaries from much different backgrounds, temperature-wise, that is. Will Forent Vosperse show the multiverse a force unable to be replicated anytime soon by the national team? Or will Pritoria Igno make it forever clear that Tamgu stays with them? Make sure to tune in to whatever channel's broadcasting the event, because I tell ya, folks, this isn't a match to miss!
