September 9,1949, 5 PM

The Prime Minister orders the British Army of the Rhine to combat readiness, while the British 4th and 5th Armies are mobilized in the UK, bringing Britain's military size up to 1,000,000 troops, although 300,000 are being kept in reserve status. British posts in the Med. and Asia are put on high alert, while in Canada and Australia, a general mobilization, hoping to get their military's up to 150,000 strong each, begins under guidance of British commanders. Meanwhile Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Rifles are dispatched by aircraft to Britain. The British Isles are in the first step of general war preparation, but will not go any further unless provoked.

Caballero's stupidity had got himself into a shitshow. The British were practically preparing for war, and it seemed that the whole world was gathering against them. However, they had been notified by the USSR that they were under their protection. Caballero had met with his cohorts and they had agreed on a plan of action, to only cease the blockades conditionally. The conditions would be revealed in an official international announcement.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SPANISH SOCIALIST REPUBLIC

Spain is willing to cease the blockade of Gibraltar conditionally. For the end of the blockade Spain requests that NATO recognise us as a proper sovereign state rather than those nationalists in exile in Las Palmas and that they cease their aggression and expansionist attitude, which means to withdraw all munitions targeted at Spain and cease the continued militarisation of our borders and blatant plans to change our regime. Spain needs to recover from its last war and does not wish for another one, we wish to work with any and all the countries of the world for the advancement of peace. However, we will protect our sovereignty and borders which is why we have initiated this blockade. Spain has noted a request to meet with our advisories at the UN General Assembly, and that request is accepted.

HMS Implacable, September 10, 1959, 4 PM

Vice Admiral Syfret is giving orders when Admiral McGrigor walks in, with a dispatch from London. It states:

Home Fleet is to escort the British 3rd Division and the 7th Armored Regiment to Gibraltar, then return to Scapa Flow. Spain has agreed to lift the blockade. Do so immediately.

London, England, 5 PM

The Prime Minister releases a official press statement

The British Government will agree to the terms of the Socialist Republic of Spain, as to avoid possible escalation to a war with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the Warsaw Pact. We cannot speak for the French Government in Paris, however. As to the United Nations General Assembly, the British Government concurs with the statement to meet with advisories.

Stuttgart, American Occupation Zone, Germany
The aftermath of WWII saw the US emerge on the world stage as one of her most powerful nations. The defeat of Germany and Japan had led to the US practically becoming the world police; with American troops on practically every corner of the globe in some way, shape or form. This elevated presence was especially tense in Europe; where a substantial part of Europe had fallen to the spectre of communism. This was why the US military presence in Europe was so massive; with over 1.3 Million soldiers of the US military's 2.2 Million soldiers based outside of the mainland ready in Europe; with Asia having a presence of 800,000 in retrospect, though with a much more substantial naval presence in comparison to Europe. These were spread throughout the various free nations in Europe; the largest presence being concentrated in primarily Germany. It was here that US soldiers remained on high alert, and here that several high ranking commanders assembled. Here General Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower sat along with several other men. Among them were General George S. Patton, General Jacob L. Devers and Admiral Robert Carney. As the Supreme Commander of US and Allied Operations in Europe, it was his job to oversee and organise military operations across Europe.

"Right then, gentlemen, you all know the issue that faces us here today; firstly, the rising amount of troops being brought about by the French in the West and the Soviets in East," Eisenhower said, "Second, and more immediate, the Spanish blockade of trade and goods in the Gibraltar Strait; I'm all ears gentlemen."

"Sir, this obvious provocation from the Communists can't be ignored; we must face them man to man and not allow ourselves to be cowed in this face of aggression," Patton said, "We've gotta put our troops on high alert, begin positioning our troops in defensive positions; active and prepared. I'd ask our allies to do the same."

"Though General Patton's...rather aggressive suggestion is somewhat questionable, I do agree that we cannot allow ourselves to be inactive," Carney spoke up, "Sir, I can have a naval task force assembled within a short time span; as the Spanish Navy is still rather small and ineffective after the Civil War, even mobilising a small contingent of our fleet should be enough to completely overwhelm them."

"Sir, while I do agree with the sentiment that something must be done, we cannot risk provoking the Communist powers into open conflict," Devers said.

"Like hell we can't! Like what I said, it was a mistake to let the Ruskies have free reign over Europe; we should've followed Churchill's ideas and invaded the Soviets when they were still consolidating their forces!" Patton exclaimed.

"Even then General, no matter our technological superiority not only do the Soviets have overwhelming numbers but they now have the bomb; we've lost our main deterrent and therefore caution must be exercised," Devers replied rather heatedly.

"I think I've got a plan on one of those fronts," Patton said, before turning to Eisenhower, "Sir, I've already talked with German officials and they're willing to create a new border guard made up of the locals and lead by former Wehrmacht officers to help retain order in the country; with the senate back at home trying to force us to de-mobilise further, I think it's excusable."

"You wanna raise up another German military? Are you insane!" one of the officers around the table spoke up.

"Oh, calm down you pansy, the Ruskies already did the same back in '46, and no ones complaining. Besides, it'll be inferior in every way compared to our own boys," Patton said, "But give it enough time and we'll have the numbers to match up with those Ruskies."

Eisenhower thought on the words of his fellow officers and finally spoke up. "While I agree with General Devers' request for caution, I also agree that we cannot allow these actions to go without a response in some way," Eisenhower said, "I don't want any immediate aggressive actions from our boys, but for now put them on high alert, get them ready to move at any moment."

"Carney, I want you to begin assembling a naval task force; but not too quickly, we just wanna catch their attention for now," Eisenhower continued, "And finally Patton? I'll authorise this little project of yours but I don't want anything too much to begin with, we don't want everyone accussing us of resurrecting the German War Machine all of a sudden."

"Gentlemen, these coming months will be the most important since 1945, I expect all of you to stay vigilant and prepared for any scenario."

Under the direction of Carney, a naval task force began to assemble. This task force would be made up of 2 Aircraft Carriers, 5 Battleships, 15 Cruisers, 20 Frigates and 30 Destroyers.

At the same time, under the guise of helping Allied forces continue the order in the occupied regions, the Austrian and German Bundesgrenzschutz was formed. To be made from German citizens, many of which who were former members of the Wehrmacht, they would be equipped with rebranded Wehrmacht uniforms (the Nazi insignia being replaced with the logo of the Allied-Occupation Forces, an eagle symbolising its German origins) as well as armed with Kar98ks, MG42s, MP40s, Beretta Modello 38s, Walther P38s, along with armoured cars and some light helicopters. Many of these would be commanded by both Allied officers and former Wehrmacht officers; with the German contingent numbering 10,000 and the Austrian contingent 5,000.

White House, Washington DC
Meanwhile, in the White House, Harry Truman sat behind a desk, signing documents. Since becoming president in 1945, Truman had worked tirelessly to continue the dream of his dear friend, Franklin D. Roosevelt. From then he had made sure to try and establish a free world; particularly free from the Communist threat. And at this very moment, the Communists were at it again; with this current crisis in Europe.

It was clear that the Soviets were at it again in Europe, and Truman needed to counter this mass Soviet influence in Europe. It was because of this that he had told Marshall to send proposals that might even the odds or even tilt them into their favour.

It was at this moment that someone knocked on his door. "Come in," Truman simply said.

A door opened, revealing one of his attaches, wearing a professional suit, walk-in. "Mr President," the attache said, "There's a call from Moscow; they want to talk about the Spanish problem."

Truman sighed. "Patch him through," Truman replied, as the attache nodded. Only a moment later, the phone on his desk began ringing and Truman picked it up.

"This is President Truman," Truman said.

To those concerned in the Socialist Government,
The United States asks that the Socialist government lift this completely unnecessary blockade of the Gibraltar strait. There is no reason for the Socialist government to do so, and to continue would harm relations between our two powers. If the blockade continues, the United States will have no choice but to begin sanctions on the Socialist Republic and to cease all trade to her. This would cause extremely extensive harm to your nation's economy; still damaged from the results of the Spanish Civil War.

In return, the US may be willing to recognise the sovereignty of the Socialist Republic as an independent nation separate of The Kingdom of Spain (otherwise known as the Nationalist State of Spain) and to ease the militarisation against it; but in return asks that the Socialist Republic cease their own aggressive militarization policies and provocative foreign actions, and also majorly limits military interaction with the Soviet Union and her puppet states as well as ceases any military support given to the USSR or other Communist states that is directed against the non-Communist powers of Europe and Africa.

The United States asks that the Socialist Republic considers what is best for its people.
Sincerely, Supreme Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower.

To those concerned,
We in the government of the United States would first like to congratulate those in the Republic of China for the speedy recovery of their nation, and furthermore congratulates the ability for the government to retain such a stable presence in both the nation and on the continent. It would, additionally, like to remind the Chinese government that a large amount of this recovery was partly due to US economic aid.

It is due to this unexpected friendship forged between our two nations that the United States comes once more for another partnership that would prove beneficial to both of our countries. The United States is willing to lease the Republic of China a surplus of American weaponry and equipment to help arm the Chinese military, as well as the sale of several retired naval warships; including the North Carolina Class Battleship USS Washington and the Light Aircraft Carrier USS Cabot. Additionally, the US is willing to send military advisors to help train Chinese military personal to both use modern doctrine as well as to operate the aforementioned weapons. Furthermore, the US is willing to offer greater economic aid to help build up the Chinese industry, as well as to lessen tariffs and trade restrictions on Chinese goods coming into the US.

In return, the US asks that we forge a mutual military defence pact against the Communist powers of Japan and the USSR, as well as to offer support in any policing duties around Asia. Additionally, the US asks that China allows, at least limited, access to Chinese facilities to US military operations so that the US military may offer assistance in any way and that China both reduces trade volume on the USSR and Japan, and also raises tariffs on respective goods coming from either power.

As perhaps Asia's most powerful local nation-state, and therefore essential to the balance of power on the continent, the US asks that China considers this proposal; for the prosperity of both our powers.

Sincerely, Secretary of State George Marshall.

*In summary, the US is offering China more economic aid, Military advisors, A battleship and an aircraft carrier as well as several other warships, more modern US weapons, a defensive pact and trade benefits. And in return asks that the US military have SOME access to Chinese facilities, puts more restrictions/pressure on Soviet and Japanese trade and to help the US in peacekeeping and military operations in Asia should any problems arise (whether through direct military support or by sending of supplies).

To those concerned in the Brazilian Government,
We in the United States applaud you for your actions in attempting to create an economically stable South America rid of Communism and now desires to both acknowledge and work upon this stance. We in the US government wish to follow the actions of our common friend in the British Empire and offer the formation of a defensive alliance. With this, we are willing to offer the United States of Brazil economic and military aid to help continue the good work in our neighbouring continent as well as to help retain order against any Communist influence in the region.

In return, the US asks that both of our powers strengthen trade ties in the form of lessening tariffs and restrictions on both goods of both nations. The US also asks that it allows Brazilian facilities to be accessed by US military forces as to allow for US forces to offer assistance at any moment, and also asks the USB to further restrict trade ties with the various Communist powers.

We ask you, our far southern neighbours, to consider this mutually-beneficial agreement.
Sincerely, Secretary of State George Marshall.

PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA

The Republic of China supports peaceful resolution to the Gibraltar crisis, which was completely caused by the Socialist Spanish Government. China supports the public recognition of this Spanish Government as the legitimate one at the United Nations, however no nation should be allowed to bully their way into the United Nations. Until Spain ends its unlawful blockade interfering with international free trade the Republic of China, as one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, will not support its inclusion. Spain must immediately cancel its blockade and issue an apology before being accepted.

We have a significant number of small arms available to us however lack ships, vehicles/tanks and most importantly aircraft we would be interested in purchasing several hundred state of the art fighter and bomber aircraft from your nations companies and need advisers to assist in their use.

Regarding the trade agreement, we would very much appreciate your generous offer regarding lowered tariffs and greater economic aid. Your conditions, that of a mutual defense pact like NATO, is acceptable to us but we must put a matter to a vote in our parliament.

We will need to go over our military budget to figure out what exactly we can afford. We would also be interested in alternative payment for the naval vessels, namely a lease on various naval bases on our coast. Additionally we will be seeking licensing agreements with various US companies to produce our own version of various small arms in order to better improve domestic production and standardization.

Hugo Darand breathed a huge sigh of releif. He had avoided having to send france into another war, one which would most certainly kill thousands of french. The spanish lifting the blockade had taken out a huge amount
of pressure off his shoulders.
'Lower the military to Defensive readiness"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
80,000 french reserve units recently sent to the borders are sent back, leaving 120,000 left.

We will lease 5 different locations for military naval bases provided you hire local Chinese workers to help with the manual labor for construction. How many ships will we receive for this?

Additionally we will be purchasing $10 million worth of aircraft and vehicles from the United States
(1950 US dollars, so thats about $100 million today)

For 5 naval bases and the workers, we would be willing to lend 20 of the 32 Destroyers and 4 of the 10 Cruisers. Additionally, we would be willing to give a 20% discount on the USS Washington and a 15% discount for the USS Cabot.

We will not be providing the workers, one of the conditions for the bases is that you hire local Chinese workers and do not important laborers. We have no interest in the USS Cabot, it will take up too much of our military budget. Additionally what do you mean 'lend' the ships? This is similar to your "Destroyers for bases" proposal with the British. You get a 99 year lease on the bases in exchange for the ships.

Finally after consultation with the ministers we can afford $10 million worth of US aircraft and equipment. (1950 US dollars, so thats about $100 million today)

From: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

Greetings,

As of now, we only seek a peaceful resolution to the Gibraltar Crisis. We ask all countries that are currently aligned with us to stay neutral officially, and don't provoke the West unnecessarily. The General Assembly meeting in New York should resolve this crisis.

And on the topic of Comecon, it is financial aid from the Soviet Union to countries devastated from the Second World War, which would include your nation. In response to the NATO alliances created by the West, Comecon will also precede the creation of our own mutual defense treaty.

Molotov, after waiting a bit, finally connected to Truman. "Hello President, this is Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov of the Soviet Union. I call you today to discuss the Gibraltar Crisis. I believe it is to the benefit of both our nations to seek a peaceful resolution to this incident. Therefore, I request that we convene in the United Nations Security Council to keep peace and to resolve the issue of Gibraltar. Before the Council can meet, I also ask that the United States and United Kingdom refrain from military action.

To: The Socialist Republic of Spain
From: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

The USSR wants peace to be maintained in this post World War Two world, and in doing so, we request that you resist provoking the US or UK any further. Since you have agreed to the UN meeting, we believe you also seek peace and will do everything in your power to prevent a catastrophe.

Pravda, Official newspaper of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union

This message goes out to all socialist nations affected by the Second World War. Earlier this year, the Soviet Union created the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance to aid those devastated by the German invasions and our subsequent liberations. This will develop and stabilize the damaged economies. All members of the Eastern Bloc and Japan are invited to meet in Warsaw to discuss Comecon and to create a mutual defense treaty.

The Kingdom of Egypt and Sudan

Abdeen Palace, Cairo, Egypt
September 09, 1949

King Farouk sighed, putting down the briefing papers provided to him by his Prime Minister, Aly Maher Pasha, who was standing before him. The Spanish Crisis, as they were referring to it, would have caused some consternation if there had not been yet another thorn in the side of the Egyptian government. "Prime Minister, it has been three years since my government under the Wafd formally requested that the British remove themselves from Egypt. And they have not done so, is that not correct?" "Your Majesty is, unfortunately, correct in this regard", Pasha replied, his head bowed. "And what will your Government do about it?" In the more than two decades since Farouk I had succeeded his father, he had developed a bit of an attitude where he preferred to be told things plainly, which was a bit of a contrast to his luxurious lifestyle. "Your Majesty, Cabinet has been thinking about this. If the British will not leave, then perhaps Your Majesty's Government will have no choice but to show them the price of refusal to acknowledge our sovereignty. And while your loyal Government would not suggest war at this time, there are other ways to deliver our point. Especially at a time when the British are under attack on multiple fronts. As much of a headache as this Spanish blockade of the Gibraltar Strait is to Egypt, it is also an opportunity..." Aly Pasha paused, waiting for His Majesty to indicate an interest for him to continue, which was promptly given. "Sir, the British maintain their control over the Suez Canal, they refuse to recognize Your Majesty's and Egypt's rightful claim to the Sudan, and they refuse a formal request by Your Majesty's Government to withdraw their military from Egypt. The British will continue to view us as nothing more than an accessory to their Empire. While I and my party have advocated for maintaining ties to Britain in the past, the needs of Egypt come first, and if Britain refuses to, as the Americans say, play ball...then we need to change the game. To that end, Your Majesty, I have an idea, one that has been in the works for some time..."

Chamber of Deputies, Egyptian Parliament, Cairo, Egypt
September 09, 1949

"Order, order!" Hushes fell upon the animated Chamber as the Speaker called for order. "As I understand it, the Prime Minister has a motion that he would like the Chamber to entertain?" Aly Maher Pasha rose to address the Chamber of Deputies. "Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I submit to this House the Suez Canal Nationalization Act of 1949, and I move for its immediate consideration." "Is there a second?" A Social Democratic Deputy arose with an enthusiastic "I second the motion!" The Speaker nodded and continued. "Any objections?" None, which, considering the name of the bill alone was something that was unsurprising, despite the political diversity of the Chamber. "The motion is approved. Carry on, Prime Minister." "Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, fellow Deputies, who was it that built the Suez Canal? Egyptians. We built it. And yet, we do not reap the benefits of our sweat and blood. Mr. Speaker, three years ago, the Wafd Government, under instruction from His Majesty the King, asked the British to remove all military forces from our lands. They have continued to equivocate and procrastinate. They have continued to intervene in Egyptian affairs. Mr. Speaker, it is time for Egypt to prosper from the fruit of its labor. This bill will nationalize the Suez Canal and place it in the hands of an Egyptian Suez Canal Authority, while also seizing and freezing the assets of the Suez Canal Company, and will pay stockholders of the Company the price of their shares according to the Paris Stock Exchange's closing price on 20th of September, 1949, when this bill is scheduled to go into effect, should the Chamber and the Senate vote their approval, and should His Majesty the King grant his assent. Mr. Speaker, I yield to the floor." After a number of questions and speeches - many in favor - the bill went to vote. In Egyptian Parliamentary history, rarely had there been a bill that had been approved by the Chamber of Deputies with near unanimity. 250 votes for, 12 against, and 2 abstained. It was brought to the Senate later that same day, and the Senate likewise approved the bill. It would be rushed to Abdeen Palace, where King Farouk I would publicly give his assent, and release the following statement:

My Proud People,

For far too long has Egypt been held under the thumb of this empire or that empire. For too long we have been used for the greatness of other nations, while our own people are made to live in poverty and in their shadow. We are a proud people, and we, your sovereign, grow tired of British manipulation. We grow tired of British intervention in our sovereignty. We grow tired of the British threatening us with their military and strangling us through their control over the Suez Canal. And so, we gladly affirm our signature to the Suez Canal Nationalization Act and give it our royal assent. It is time for Egypt to thrive, and it is time for the British to return Egypt's lands and rights to all Egypt. My noble people, I am proud of you and your loyalty and am confident in the future as I am in God. Let us work together. We shall succeed and be happy. Long live the Motherland!

We will not be providing the workers, one of the conditions for the bases is that you hire local Chinese workers and do not important laborers. We have no interest in the USS Cabot, it will take up too much of our military budget. Additionally what do you mean 'lend' the ships? Very well; we shall sell you 20 destroyers and 4 cruisers in return for the lease on your 5 military bases. We will also accept the $10,000,000 and send to you the equivalent amount of equipment and aircraft in return.

In Hawaii and the West Coast, the flotilla of warships (made up of the Sims, Benham, Porter, Somers and 2 of the Fletcher Class destroyers as well as 2 Pensacola-class and 2 Northampton-class Cruisers) was being re-equipped and prepared to be sent to the Chinese mainland. Similarly, the military equipment and aircraft agreed upon, as well as several military advisors, were beginning to be loaded up to also be sent to Asia where they would all help build up the Chinese military.

MESSAGE FROM THE SPANISH PRESIDENT TO THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER

I have ordered that Spanish fleets cease the blockade of Gibraltar itself (although there will still be some patrols in the Strait) and allow British ships through the Strait, as long as they are not behaving in a way that undermines Spanish interests in the area. I am also glad to see that you are willing to see us in New York to discuss the tensions. I would also like to discuss there potential British recognition of the socialist regime in Madrid rather than the nationalists in Las Palmas as the true Spanish Government.

MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SPAIN TO THE UNITED STATES EUROPEAN COMMAND

We will end the blockade if you end the militarisation of our borders and end the targeting of munitions towards us. We will cease our aggresive actions in return and have stated such previously. However, we will not isolate ourselves by ending support to our major allies in Moscow and other Socialist states. Such a course of action would leave us out in the cold with no major allies that are geographically close to us.

MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SPAIN TO THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS

Since the blockade was initiated, we have been open to compromise witn the west and we do not seek to provoke them any further. We will also attend the meeting in Warsaw to discuss Comecon and a mutual defense treaty.

Asardia wrote:Vyacheslav Molotov, the Foreign Minister of the Soviet Union and First Deputy Premier shook his head in frustration. The west clearly was willing to go to war against Spain on Gibraltar, and the presence of Soviet troops in Europe didn't seem to deter them at all. Stalin had explicitly informed him that news of the atomic bomb test last week was to remain a secret, which is why he didn't allude to it in the Communist Party's official statement on the issue. Either way, the Soviet Union had the advantage here. The Red Army is still the largest in the world, and the West knew of how well the army did against the Blitzkrieg that dominated Europe in the early phases of the war. Vasily Sokolovsky, the Marshall of the USSR who had overseen the capture of Berlin, stood beside the Foreign Minister.

What the hell do we do, Molotov?" Sokolovsky asked angrily. "We're not officially allied with the Spanish, but they are still socialists, and if the British believe they can step over them, what prevents them from doing something to the Eastern Bloc? Yugoslavia? Japan? We'll have to take a stand here!"

"Calm down, Marshall," Molotov replied. "Our Army defeated the Nazis pretty much by ourselves, and we took down the Japanese in Manchuria. The British know what a war with one of the world's most powerful nations would do to them. Besides, they follow America like dogs, anyway."

"I guess that's true, Foreign Minister. Our main priority will be to send the Spanish military aid an invite them to our faction. And while we're on the topics of factions, I heard the General Secretary got a phone call by a member of Africa's socialist fighters."

"The General Secretary will deal with that. In fact, I'm sure he already issued a response."

Pravda, Official newspaper of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics strongly advises against any act of war against the Socialist Republic of Spain. Spain, being a socialist country, is considered an ally of the USSR, and any action taken against them will result in retaliation. The Red Army numbers over a million in our occupied zones in Eastern Europe. We hope peace can be retained through these dangerous times, but we will not allow our fellow communists to fall to western imperialism. We ask that leaders of both the Socialist Republic of Spain, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, agree to meet in the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Assembly is planning to convene later this month.

Stalin's secretary picked up the phone in response to De Klair's call. Immediately afterwards, it was forwarded to Stalin himself. "Greetings! May I ask what it is you want to discuss today?

Vyacheslav Molotov decided to call Washington D.C to discuss the Spanish and British directly with the President of the United States. America had stayed out of the conflict for now, but it's best to appear diplomatic for now. The UN General Assembly won't occur until a few weeks from now, but they didn't have that kind of time. The Berlin Blockade emboldened the West, and another failure in Spain could be disastrous

"Hello, my friend. My government, first and foremost, reaches its hand out in cooperation, and are willing to join the Eastern Bloc once the war is over. However, we wish to ask for aid, as the current situation requires us to reinforce our forces. We also would like licenses to Soviet technology and/or military aid if you are unable to authorise Soviet soldiers on the ground. I urge you to get this aid as soon as possible, in order to ensure a quick and bloodless victory. Comrade, as you can see, the further this war goes on - the harder it will be to rebuild. We will pay your aid in kind after the war, both monetarily and diplomatically."

Hugo Duranf is very frustrated. His Conservative and Liberal allies in the Congress have left him, and the US hasn't responded to his nation's request to join NATO. The USSR hasn't commented, but he suspects they think the same of him as spain does. His party is now unable to form a coalition, unless they withdraw soldiers from vietnam as a concession to the Liberals, or drop some of his welfare programs for the Conservatives. The Syndicalists and Communists are looking to form a coalition that could unseat him. He has no choice but to call for new elections.

SYNDICALIST HQ
Adolphe Reanoú is making plans for the new elections, and hopes to take advantage of the Social Democrats calling of new elections, and form a coalition with the Communists.
he is in a party meeting, when one lieutenant says
"Sir, In order to garner more support, and in the case of our victory, shouldn't we join NATO?"
"What?"
"We can promise to join NATO if we win. Our own faction would be hard, as there are barely any other Syndicalists"
"Hmm... True."
"We should do what's best for the nation, sir"
"Alright. Make a public announcement saying that in the case of our victory, we will continue to pursue closer bonds with NATO"
"Won't that anger the Communists?"
"Mmm, maybe a few will defect to us"
"alright sir."

THE CONSERVATIVES,SYNDICALISTS,SOCIAL DEMOCRATS,AND LIBERALS
Will all pursue NATO membership
Many communist MP's decide to wait for the election, and see if they should defect or not.

(current seats)
Social Democrats:15 seats.
Communists:18 seats
Syndicalists:21 seats
Conservatives:14 Seats
Liberals:22 Seats

(New elections coming soon!)

Tehran, Pesia

The King Asad Pahlevir held a press conference about the recent Gibralatar events. His pro-NATO leanings were not a secret to anyone but he still tried to maintain stable relations with everyone.

The tensions in the Gibraltar are a result of the Spain's socialists' stubborness and unwillingness to compromise. They know that the Soviet Union will stand
by them and this is where their bravery comes from. Yesterday it was the British and tomorrow it will be us. Spain should be officially reprimanded by the international community for such actions.

Meanwhile, two Persian tank divisions were dipatched to the northern border with the Soviet Union for military drills as well as anti-aerial guns.

Isfahan, Persia

The economic protests of which started in the beginning of 1949 were the largest display of public resentment in Persia. The geographic scope of the protests and caught authorities by surprise. The demonstrators were largely from outside the capital. They gathered in major northeastern cities, such as the conservative stronghold of Mashhad, and in the provinces. They also largely hailed from the country's working class. One noteworthy fact was their geographical spread. Equally noteworthy was the lack of elite backing: beyond general statements of sympathy for demands such as more jobs and lower consumer prices, no major political camp sided with the protesters. The protests are erupting in every major city in Persia demanding the same: more government's attention for the common men and higher salaries. The head of the movement seems to be a religious leader Imam Farhad Khamani.

It had been years and decades since Ibn Saud had singlehandedly build a new and modern nation of his own, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With persistent Western aid, the new kingdom is on its way to a streamlined modernization in terms of its military, infrastructure and social conditions. As Ibn Saud had wanted, his awaited project of a long-spanning railway from the Persian Gulf to Riyadh and later to Jeddah is already underway. As he stared from an open window inside the Murabba palace, he was suddenly brought back to reality by his son, Prince Saud.

"Are the proposed economical solutions worthy of success?", asked the king with a knowing interest. The Crown Prince gave a quick nod before going on, "If everything is in its order, by next week we will be able to fully standardize the currency and later receive investments from the West, as we had hoped".Ibn Saud couldn't be more pleased at the report. However, he realized that in order to maintain its credibility, he would need to make sure his country's sole political hegemony and relations with other countries, particularly the West remain regulated and on good terms, something that be hoped could achieve before he dies and would later be continued by his successor.

"Sir, the Egyptians are planning to nationalize the Suez Canal, which will cut our Empire in two. Your orders, sir?" September 11th, 1949
Jerusalem, State of Israel

After several months of war had been waged and the security of the nation no longer in impending doom of obliteration, the reorganization of the State could finally be complete. With the Mapai having a majority control under the leadership of its Prime Minister, along with its coalition members of the United Religious Front and the Progressive Party it was looking towards making change for the better of the State of Israel, hoping to align itself more in line with Western Democracies and support. Though it was not all unity for the state of Israel, Mapam and its fragile alliance with Maki's Israeli portion of the legislator, aiming to align more with the Soviet Union to continue along orthodox socialist doctrine than that of Mapai.

The first case was the economic crisis and situation within the nation that was plaguing almost all citizens as well as those who evacuated further into the State of Israel, finding it unable to completely feed its people and sustain several major goods for all, the Government had to further intervene. It placed a policy of Austerity, placing massive amounts of rations on several food items and now having to be expanded to almost all goods in general, such as furniture and footwear. Basing the rationing off British war time rationing during the second world war, all citizens would receive 1,600 calories a day through this diet and more for the young, old and pregnant. Ration cards would be issued out to ensure that all Israeli citizens are receiving their fair share of possible goods to ensure that once the economic hardship passes over they will be able to feed themselves and their families. Israel was alone unless it could be able to receive support from outside forces and to obtain better material, which brought forth the division by the Knesset which although under the guidance of the Prime Minister went its separate ways towards the end goal of support for the State of Israel.

To the Secretary of the United States of America,

Our Prime Minister has requested of me to send you a message in the hopes of economic support for the fledgling State of Israel, of which we've been through hardships such as a war for our very survival from the Arab forces that attempted to expel us once more from the land we claim as our home. As one of the Middle East's only true Democratic nations and a force capable of Westernization, we are looking for support from the Western World to support our efforts at reconstruction and economic stability.

First, we require direct economic aid to pay off debts to foreign nations and to begin stockpiling foreign currencies in the hopes of maintaining a stable economy and bringing prosperity to our lands. Alongside American investments to stimulate the Israeli economy and ensure a well-trained force of skilled workers and businesses. As well as a push in the United Nations for the humanitarian relief and support for our people, of which we know you are a powerful force within the international political entity, so your political support would be greatful. Second, we look for material aid in the form of tanks, guns and general support equipment like radios and medicines for our soldiers. Although our forces have plenty of supplies such as your M4 Sherman and the Cromwell, along with whatever leftover British supplies we've managed to maintain, we are in dire need of more modern supplies to defend our democracy and our national sovereignty. Third and finally, we look for closer political cooperation with an embassy to open in Jerusalem, but we do not wish to be part of NATO itself. We are not looking towards an eventual conflict with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, nor do we wish to actively combat against them in the hopes they will not support Arab regimes and rebels.

We hope that your nation will be willing to support our own,
signed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moshe Sharett

Dear General Secretary Stalin,

We although understand your efforts against the Jewish Population before the start of the world war against the Nazis was unfavorable, we find that your revolutionary struggle for the working class of the people against the Czars as inspiration for all working class around the world. So extend our hand in friendship towards you, in the hopes that you may support the economic situation in Israel and support the party for the extension of the revolution to the middle east. Though our Prime Minister is a socialist himself, he goes against the orthodoxy of socialist thought with his moderate socialism. Our party stands for the ideals needed for the people of Israel.

We require assistance for the Israeli economy so that the working class may feed their families and be able to restore the infrastructure and housing for all within the lands of Israel. Along with possible Soviet engineer corps to support such an endeavor and the expansion of an embassy for the Soviet Union, this to ensure our cooperation is guaranteed. Although our efforts are not state sponsored it is our only option to ensure our ability to spread the revolution to here.

We await your response,
Meir Ya'ari

Speech to the World and the Egyptian Nationalization of the Suez Canal

"Members of the International Community, I am Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion of the State of Israel. After our war for independence which we have found ourselves able to repel completely the Arab forces from destroying our people, we are looking forward towards interacting greatly with our international community. We hope to ensure that cooperation with other members of the middle east will be possible, that the hostilities during the war will not be kept and that stability and peace may prevail, through determination of our people will let it. That international peace will succeed and such actions of terror on one another not last for our younger generations to feel the burden. That conflict has left upon this world, with the Great War and the unsuccessful Nazi conquest for the world. We are left with the greatness of our civilization being rebuilt, yet conflict still rises from it.

"First is the crisis with the Berlin Blockade, where the Soviet Union prevented supplies from reaching the people of Berlin forcing the Western nations to fly them in with aircraft. A feat successful against the Soviet political move that left it humiliated, yet not beaten. We should not find ourselves in conflict, or else we repeat the horror my people had faced when the nazis brought forth the genocide we barely survived. The second, is the crisis with Gibraltar. A conflict that could've brought down the peace and stability that our world finally achieved, with the end of the war. Thankfully, with the conscious that was needed from the Spanish, they backed down and ensured that peace prevails. But now we are faced with our most daring position yet, the nationalization of the Suez Canal.

"The International Community has a right to fear, a right to see a possibility of conflict through this endeavor. But we cannot rule out the effort that peace can bring. The need to ensure that international trade continues despite a change of hands is paramount towards peace than who controls the land, we cannot let conflict take the reigns once more in these trying times where peace can sustain itself. Instead, we should take these situation towards the United Nations, our experiment of discussion and peace. We cannot and should not repeat the mistakes the world made during the League of Nations, we must act upon our efforts and ensure that we let peace succeed. Let the nations of the world know, that we must discuss for a peaceful situation, than argue for one that could lead to war. The State of Israel will stay neutral on this endeavor, however it shall not hesitate to protect itself from any sort of incident that emerges from this crisis. We hope the international community shall do the same."

11 September 1949:
Following the public announcement by the king of Egypt, Crown Prince Saud was summoned to the War Council chamber. As he sat down in the face of his officers, one of them began to stood and spoke, "Your Highness, around half an hour ago, we've recieved news that the king of Egypt has declared that he will expel the British from the Suez Canal for good".The news that spread like wildfire proved shocking to the Saudi administration as relations with both Britain and Egypt had been cordial.Though he knew it is best for them to stay neutral due to a more inferior military at hand, he knew that one of the outcomes could prove devastating.

Getting impatient and aroused, several of his officers began to openly speak their mind on contrasting views. Some of them advocated for the state to side with Egypt for should they come out successful, the British economical grip could be weakened, and thus consequently leading to the Saudis following suit. However, this would in turn jeopardize their relations with Great Britain, a major ally of the kingdom, which held many importance in geopolitics."I demand immediate silence from all of you officers!", lauded the Crown Prince.

It seems that they had unanimously reached a decision, with permission from his aging father, Crown Prince Saud would attempt to make sure that the kingdom's importance with both Egypt and Great Britain would not be harmed, in conjunction with his eagerly awaited deal with the Americans that would link both the Saudi riyal currency and the American dollar currency together, fostering a rise in its industrialization.Conclusively, if time favors him, he would travel to Cairo to meet with the king himself and send a telegram to the British in London to regulate the matter on behalf of his own kingdom's importance.
