Just because you do not see electic cars selling well does not mean they are not selling well https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10567 they are selling more and more. You say you see the rise of a black market, got any evidence of this? Like I said, you can still sell gas cars in California, and the used car market still exists there.

It's a shame if it won't sell well because it's a chicken and egg problem. Why not much electric cars? No infrastructure? Why no infrastructure? Because there's not much electric cars.

Except that the infrastructure is slowly being built and more and more electric cars are being sold as the price drops. Right now electric cars are still pretty much a luxury item.

This only really makes sense if everyone wants to go to the black market for the express purpose of pissing off the government.

Tesla might not be around for much longer, they reported a $408m US loss in just one quarter. It seems like in the future, electric vehicles are going to be the domain of already established (mostly Japanese) manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan and Honda. Also, as long as traditional gasoline is available to consumers at a decent price, electric vehicles will count for a minute proportion of all sales.

The majority of people don't have the spare change to buy a hypothetical more expensive gas car over a hypothetical cheaper electric car just so they can protest. What you'll see instead is protesters wielding placards demanding lower prices for gas vehicles. And then a new debate ensues in the context of the cultural norms of the time, obviously changed from the present.

Also here's a post from the LA Times (a generally left-leaning pro-green publication) about how electric car sales in California are rising, but are still... meh, at best.

https://www.latimes.com/business/story/ ... rnia-tesla

Pure electric cars still total only 5.5% of California car sales. Consumers, for the most part, are shrugging at EV offerings from car companies not named Tesla. And Tesla sales could be topping out. “California is the largest green market in the country,” said Jessica Caldwell, market analyst at Edmunds. The state accounts for nearly half of the 105,472 pure EVs sold nationwide. “But EVs are still a tough market, even in California.” Dealers sold nearly 950,000 new automobiles statewide in the first six months of 2019, according to the California New Car Dealers Assn. About 13% of them were “electrified” in some form — pure EV, hybrid or plug-in hybrid.

Not necessarily, for one thing, the prices of electric cars are coming down, as they get closer and closer to the price of gas cars they begin to become more likely to be bought as they have other advantages, namely that they are less likely to break down due to fewer moving parts and systems (No need for an exhaust system), which means maintenance is cheaper in addition to not having to pay for gas.

Those things are literally not equivalent at all. Nobody is going to buy a gas powered car when a electric vehicle costs a lot less. If an electric vehicle can go 600 miles per charge you’d be making less stops than a gas powered car. Why would you not want that?

Windows XP has a ~3% market share. I can see specialist stores catering to them. The rest would buy their car at the mainstream electric car dealership.

Yeah, I see where this is going. Eventually, Free Gas Cars and "Unlimited Free Refills" for Gas for everyone will be rising if this keeps going.
