But in point of fact, the objection that guns are, historical terms, modern, so aren’t rights doesn’t make any sense. Arms go back as far as humans.

The whole "When the constitution was written" thing is the worst brand of that TBH.

I mean, what? You really want people to shoot up a school with a fucking carronade?

It doesn’t even make sense.

We got the right to bear arms from the English, who not only had a right to bear arms but a requirement to have them under the Assize of Arms (1181), who themselves got it from the Germanic tribes, for whom we have documentation of this right and duty dating at least as far back as 690.

New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

I'm already dreading the tweets if Trump's up against a female and a gay candidate. Personally I think Beto is not a bad choice as a balanced ticket.

Frankly I'm dreading the tweets regardless.

Please. Donny is a geriatric spoiled brat with a blank check. If he started making homophobic Tweets the Log Cabin Republicans would volunteer to go under the bus and put up a mild objection that people sneer at regarding the United Nations at best.

When O’Rourke says he wants to take an entire class of firearms away from us, it should be viewed no less egregiously than taking a whole class of speech - say speech online - away from us because a few people cause harm from talking on the internet.

Basically, he hates America. And England. And the Germanic tribes.

Happy?

It's moved quite far from being relevant to a basic discussion of the 2nd Amendment.. there's a thread for that.

At best for the moment Beto can run with it for headlines, personally I don't see any changes given a Republican run Senate. I don't see it making him a prime contender either.

One of the reason I'm hopeful for Sanders. He talks about it now some during the primaries, but I don't think he really is interested in going after the guns. He comes from a notoriously gun friendly state, hasn't really taken actions against our gun rights before, and has far bigger fish to fry in his mind.

I think he might be the first candidate in a while not overtly hostile to a constitutional right.

Of course Beto shouldn't be in a black site.

But if people had good feelings about their constitutional rights, his numbers should crater and he should bow out in shame. Sadly, that probably won't happen.

Yes. It is.

After 2016, I don't have a lot of confidence in correct decisions being made, but that is the proper way to make them.

Most Americans are in favour of greater gun control, but then a great number care about climate change and so far there's been hardly any airtime at all on the subject.

I would like one candidate to tire of the same old tedious questions asked and go 'ok everyone, I'm going to ignore this question and talk about climate change'.

Notably, what he proposed isn't gun control, any more than banning political speech online is containing extremism.

He proposed rebooting the failed AWB. Bans.
