Introduction

HUNTERS AND HUNTRESSESS... The first and sometimes the last line of defense between mankind and some of the biggest threats that it faces - vampires, the undead, dragons, ethereal and indescribable beings from other worlds whose power levels render modern military arms ineffective. Ever since the Collision back in the Middle Ages introduced magic to humanity, humans have lived both with the advantages of magic and the threat of it hanging over their head. That includes both the threat of humans using magic against other humans, and beings that are of magical nature and hostile intent themselves, ranging from ordinary predators such as vampires to dangerou entities which can’t be explained through science and will destroy all in their warpath without hesitation.

Magic is, in simpler terms, like fire. Capable of great benefit but also of great harm, able to build a civilization up to great heights or take it down entirely depending on its use. In such a world, where magic and its users coexist with the regular population, there have to be people dedicated to combating such dangers… Firefighters, if you will. But these fires aren’t of the natural kind - dark mages raising armies of ethereal fighters to do their bidding, dragons in the streets of New York City, vampires living in the countryside and preying on the unsuspecting local populace, and humans attempting to use their magic to cheat their way through the regular world - these are all things that Hunters and Huntresses deal with.

The name ‘Hunter’ might sound like a violent title… Because it is. Anyone committed to the life of a Hunter is committed to a life of battle, a life of going wherever the latest ‘fire’ is to put it out by any means necessary, from the jungles of South America to the bustling cityscapes of North America and Asia, to the traditional castles and mountains of Europe. It’s not an easy life. It’s also not a life for everyone - some end up quitting after a year or two, others don’t even make it through the training.

But even though the job is unforgiving, you find yourself here, in the city of Santa Marina, one of the most important locations for magic in North America. In front of you, you can see a building shining in the light, made from white stone, one part of the building turning into a dome while the tower stretches into the sky and houses a massive clock face… It’s the most recognizable building at the Santa Marina Hunter Academy, recently established but already one of the finest places around to learn the skills needed for the trade. If you manage to make it through here, you’ll have made it through the last step to becoming a full time Hunter.

The job isn’t easy, but will you have what it takes? Will you make it through the live fire training, the pressure of competition with your class, and the dangers of the job? And will you be able to aid in saving the world from the threats beyond?

That, depends of course, on what you do in the story that lies ahead...

Welcome To The Hunter Academy

WHAT IS THIS RP? Long story short, it involves a mix of genres and takes from the good parts of some past RPs of mine to make something new. Expect to see inspiration from the academy genre, to superhero genre to some extent, and even from anime, but an original lore with new mechanics that are both well thought out enough to be consistent and flexible enough to not limit players unnecessarily.

The theme is magic, obviously, and if it wasn’t clear from the start of the thread, you’ll be playing (at least for now) as students at the Santa Marina Hunter Academy. This sprawling and well funded complex is one of the academies located around the world dedicated to training Hunters and Huntresses - people who deal with magical threats of both the human and nonhuman kind. You could think of them as magic police, except the threats that these cops deal with tend to be far more dangerous than just stopping some petty crime like shoplifting or a carjacking. Thus, much training is required before someone becomes a full time professional Hunter, and four year academies like this exist to serve that purpose. The one in Santa Marina is one of the largest despite being one of the newest, and you will play either a first year or second year student there.

What should you expect from life at one of the largest Hunter academies? The likely answer to that is a mix of intense training with live fire exercises, regular college life with a chance to socialize with the other students and find your way through the sometimes confusing and always interesting social games of the magic world, as well as field exercises which will count more than anything else for your training and will send you out with professional Hunters to see how the job is done for real - but don’t expect others to do all the work. Students are expected to be able to use the skills they’ve learned in the classroom under pressure in the field… Which ties into field assignments counting for a large part of each student’s grade.

When it comes to the RP and which parts of academy life are shown, you can feel free to pick between social scenes and training/field assignments for your characters freely, giving you some room to decide what you want to do - the main requirement is that you keep up with the average number of assignments rather than falling behind dramatically in this regard, although there’s not a firm requirement for the amount of field missions you have to attend.

The format of the RP focuses on the academy at Santa Marina, but you should also keep in mind that the storyline isn’t necessarily closed - there is a main story which will largely be handled by the thread staff, but things like training excursions, personal storylines, and side arcs are possible if you can find one or more people interested in writing them with you.

The Lore of Men And Magic

THE WORLD OF MAGIC IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR LIFE. While mages live in plain sight and are integrated with society rather than keeping their craft a secret and living separate lives, the worlds of mages and the world of regular humans are still oftentimes very separate - because of circumstances more than anything, usually. But before you can understand mages, you must understand magic itself. How does magic work exactly? It’s not as complicated as one might think.

Essentially, magic involves channeling supernatural energy known as mana - this energy is produced by the planet itself, or possibly by some other source… The origins of mana have been long debated with no answer in sight. Regardless, mana comes in multiple forms - stable and unstable. The human body, or at least, the bodies of magic capable humans, can purify mana into its stable form. However, the body can only contain a limited amount of mana, which is why mages aren’t capable of simply using unlimited spells within a short period of time. Unrefined mana, on the other hand, can still be used but at a much greater risk - unstable mana presents the risk of a dangerous backfire with every spell, making it only a viable option in desperate situations thanks to the threat of serious injury or worse.

Essentially, mages redirect mana into various uses. All schools of magic are based on mana and causing it to change forms - the magic of a fire mage and a necromancer might be completely different, but at their root, both of them are simply using mana and applying it to different tasks. Mana is the common thread in all magic that makes it possible, and all mages are capable of handling mana. How much stable mana someone can hold in their body at one time is influenced by their skill level - perhaps obviously, more experienced mages are able to store more mana in their body which allows them to use more magic before they run out. There are exceptions, but generally, more mana makes for a more powerful mage.

Magic also comes in categories. All spells and other magical abilities can be sorted under these categories, which are recognized by the Magic Assembly, the organization that effectively serves as the governing body to set the rules for the use of magic and oversee its use - although the Assembly isn’t the one directly involved in enforcement against those who break the rules.

Schools of Magic

Four Classical Elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air

Four Near Elements: Wood, Metal, Lightning, Force

Two Sides of the Balance: Holy, Light, Darkness, Infernal

Cosmic Magic: Astral, Space, Time

Seven New Schools of Magic: Physical, Psychic/Mental, Necromantic, Blood, Enchantment/Runic, Alchemical, Biological

It’s important to note that space-time magic is banned except for the most powerful NPCs, both for balancing reasons and because these types of magic tend to mess with the flow of action. Darkness/Infernal magic and blood magic are not banned, but tend to be looked down upon in-universe for various reasons, and are not commonly used by Hunters.

The schools of magic, of course, aren’t the only aspect to the magic world. There’s other things to be aware of such as non human races and the different species based bonuses and downsides that they receive, as well as the history of the world that you’re about to step into. For more about that, keep reading below.

Humans are not the only inhabitants of the world - nor are they the most skilled when it comes to magic. There’s several other races out there that are able to boast about having greater natural skills when it comes to magic, some of them immensely so. Earth is also not the only place where life exists… Certain other places are home to the different nonhuman magical races, and are just as advanced or more than our own realm. Below, you’ll find a quick overview of the most important of these nonhuman races, although every single possible one isn’t listed here - after all, magic greatly widens the possibilities when it comes to which beings exist and which are simply myths.

Angels & Demons - Angels and demons are on the stronger side of the spectrum in terms of natural talent, in both the physical and the magical department. These races could be considered similar but opposite, even though the statement might not make sense at the first glance. That’s because both races inhabit realms separate from our own, each one with its own hierarchy, customs, society, and everything else that has to go with an independent civilization. There’s some debate about just what these realms are, but both of them vaguely resemble preexisting human ideas.

Angels inhabit the Holy Realm which could be loosely compared to the heavens described in the Bible, with some debate going on about whether or not this realm and the heavens are the same place or simply similar in certain aspects. Demons, on the other hand, inhabit the Infernal Realm, a place which is more organized than some may expect, with its own hierarchy revolving around rank - rather than a place for humans to be punished in, the Infernal Realm could be described as a kingdom of sorts with a firmly established government and an almost feudal system of distributing power.

Both of these realms aren’t accessible to humans by ordinary means, with only the strongest mages in the world, or a large number of mages working together, being able to open a gateway between them. There have only been a small handful of times when humans have visited either realm, to varying results. Of course, the reason for the difficulty accessing other realms stems from the fact that these realms don’t exist in our world in the first place, but rather on an entirely separate plane which requires a massive mana expenditure to visit.

While all angels and demons aren’t the same and both races have their own subtypes, each one has some general traits - angels receive a natural affinity towards holy and light magic while demons receive a natural affinity towards darkness and infernal magic. Both species also have a degree of healing factor, and tend to have nonhuman physical features - angels tend to have wings while demons can possess wings also but tend to have more direct combat focused features such as claws and sharp fangs.

It’s also possible for both races to mix with humans - demon and human offspring are rarer but do appear from time to time, and generally these offspring will share some demonic characteristics but the effects of these will be reduced. If someone is only a quarter demon, for example, they should only expect to have a quarter of the natural bonuses a demon would have, if not less than that. Human and angel offspring are called nephilim, on the other hand, and typically receive a bonus in height, physical strength, and have the same magical affinities that angels do.

Vampires - Unlike the demons and angels of other realms, vampirism is a decidedly human phenomenon which was likely born in the labs of some mage during the renaissance age. It’s said that the first vampires appeared in the 1500s, the original one having been cursed by some powerful Italian mage whose name has been lost to history except for in unreliable legends. However the first vampire appeared, though, and whoever made them originally, vampires are some of the biggest threats out there and a species which the Hunters Association has regular run ins with.

Vampires aren’t unkillable or weak to holy objects and sunlight such as in some legends, but they do have a great deal of regenerative ability which makes it crucial to take one out quickly in a fight. Not all vampires are proficient in magic but all vampires are capable of using magic, unlike humans - this is another thing that makes them, as a group, one of the most dangerous that can be encountered by Hunters in the field. Vampires also have a great amount of bonuses to their physical attributes - they can move fast, hit hard and hit through many protective materials, and take more damage than a human can before going down.

While these traits are shared by all vampires, some others go above and beyond in terms of their natural capabilities. Vampires can be born with a number of natural enhancements on the physical side - this isn’t a standardized thing and can range from wings to natural claws to a larger physical stature, night vision, fangs, and a number of other irregular quirks which end up serving as a benefit to the vampires in question. All in all, vampires tend to be considered an inherent threat by the public - their need to feed on blood causes most of them to take a somewhat adversarial stance to humans, although there are vampires out there who do their best to live regularly to the best of their ability.

Fairies - While not the most dangerous, fairies are perhaps the most distrusted of the nonhuman races because of their potential for trickery. These people are known to live away from humans, sometimes within nature and other times in secluded communities, and have a reputation for subtly messing with their nearby human counterparts, both to advance themselves and to keep humans away from their own territories. All fairies possess potent magic, and most of the time, this magic is in the schools of poison, earth, physical magic, and wood - and many fairies also know tricks to hide themselves.

That’s to say that fairies make for terrifying thieves, who are able to sneak in and out without getting spotted, or even at times change their faces to commit a crime and then get away without attracting the attention of the authorities. All fairies aren’t necessarily malicious in intent, but most of them are out for themselves and their immediate community before they care about anyone else, and that includes the humans that live around them.

Fairy communities are spread out all over the world but the majority of them are rural to different degrees - some are simply outside of cities while other ones are entirely secluded and cut off from the outside world, at least without doing digging. The one common thing that they share with each other, however, is isolation from the human world, which tends to be strictly enforced by community authorities.
The Hunters Association

There’s a great many deal of people that consider themselves Hunters out there - really, there’s no official way of determining who is and isn’t a hunter. There are, however, many groups out there and some of them are more recognized as being official than others - at the high end of the spectrum there’s internationally known groups whose members might be recognized by the public for their role in dealing with high profile threats. At the lowest level, there’s essentially low level vigilantes who attempt to protect certain areas with varying levels of success.

The Hunters Association is the most relevant organization in the field, with offices around the world, but it’s not a team itself per say. The Association acts more as a parent organization for a number of other groups under its banner, and helps to standardize their practices and maintain a professional standard where one would otherwise be lacking if amateurs were depended on for the jobs of Hunters and Huntresses.

The Association is run through an Executive Council which acts as a board of directors so to speak and decides the direction for the organization as a whole - it also has regional branches across the world, with some responsible for multiple countries and some responsible for parts of a country, the latter mainly happening in larger nations such as the United States. The Santa Marina Hunter Academy is of course a part of this organization, with the main role of the academy being to find talent for the Hunters Association to be sent out to different locales once the training is complete.

Most cities of a decent size in the United States and a number of other western countries are covered by at least one mage from the Association, whose task is to handle anything that comes up in that city as well as things in the surrounding area that need a response. Larger cities tend to have entire teams, or multiple, of mages working to counter the heightened risk inherent to having so many people around.

The Association is also, quite importantly, the first line of defense for humanity from the various nonhuman threats of the magic world, as well as the threat of humans using magic for their own gain. This has made them the most famous group of mages around, but at the same time, their position as the most well known make organization comes with a number of risks attached to it, thanks to painting a target on their back… Something the students of the Santa Marina Hunter Academy will realize at some point in the future.

The Santa Marina Hunter Academy

WELCOME TO SANTA MARINA, FLORIDA. Founded by the Spanish in the earlier days of America, the city is one of the main centers for the magic community in the United States, as mages showed up first from Spain and then from Italy and other European countries in the early history of the settlement. The city’s status as a popular landing spot for mages quickly led to a number of magical houses setting up here, and made the city one of the hubs for magic research in the United States - today, the city of Santa Marina is somewhat large and fits in a bit more with the rest of the country, regular people now living in the city more than they did in the past and outnumbering the mages.

Still, the magic population can be seen represented in the elite of the city, as some of the most established families through the years - this has also made Santa Marina something of a hub for Hunters, which is part of the reason why the Hunters Association decided to open an academy here out of all the places that would have been possible. The academy itself is smaller than most college campuses but far more dense, with much of the things that one would find in a typical campus squeezed down to a small size, with the campus located in the Calero Hills district of Santa Marina… Also known as the richest part of the city, where much of the old money lives.

Students will live on site, with all student housing being located within the North Apartment Block on the far northern end of the campus. The main classrooms and other facilities used in day to day teaching are located a small walk away from there near the middle of the campus, while the main place for large assemblies is the Concert Hall, which is at the southern end of the campus and is sometimes used to raise money by housing public concerts with musicians from the surrounding area and beyond. Feel free to keep this information in mind when sending your characters to and from classes.

Calero Hills is located about fifteen minutes to the west of downtown Santa Marina, while Santa Marina as a whole is located on the coast, about an hour and a half to the north of Miami. While Miami is the nearest major city, students can also expect field assignments in a number of locales ranging from Santa Marina itself to other cities in the United States to even foreign destinations such as Europe… The Hunters Association spares no expense when it comes to training its members.

Classes themselves for the most part revolve around magical skills and about other skills which tie into the work of being a Hunter - cold reading, dealing with crisis situations, first aid, skill with both magical and conventional weapons, and other things along these lines. Few classes cover the ‘traditional’ subjects that one would usually study in college. The workload is also lighter than most colleges, with less essay style assignments… However, the lighter workload in the class is more than made up for by the intensive exercises in the field.

Academy Enrollment

IF YOU STILL FIND YOURSELF INTERESTED, CONTINUE READING AHEAD. First off, please make sure that you’ve gotten familiar with the lore posted above - if you simply read the introduction and then skipped to this section to apply, you’re going to lack some info which would greatly help you in making a smooth jump into the RP. Second, be sure to read this section carefully as it explains how to fill out the application.

When selecting your magic, you’ll have three sections to fill out - the first one asks for your magic categories, and you can find the list of categories by looking further up in the thread. The second one asks for your mana capacity. First year students begin with 150. Second year students begin with 200. You will be able to raise this number through active participation in the RP and through good mission performance… Don’t ask when you can raise your mana number. If you perform well enough in the field, it will happen eventually, although the higher your mana count, the longer it takes to raise it. Changes in this number should be reflected by editing the application.

Finally, the Spells/Abilities section is where you list everything that you can do with your magic - please list all of your magic related abilities and spells here, as anything not on this list won’t be recognized in the IC. You can list as many things as you want but if you add too many powerful spells or skills the application may be nerfed before being accepted. After listing the name of each spell or ability, it is important that you add a mana points cost in brackets. This, for example, is a correctly written out spell. Adding the cost allows you to see how many times you can use a spell without running out of mana.

Lightning Shot [10] - Shoots lightning in multiple directions and causes damage on impact.

Don’t worry too much about how much each spell should cost - if the numbers don’t look right when you submit the application, the thread staff will inform you of what they should be instead. As a general rule, the more powerful the attack, the more mana it consumes. The last thing you should be aware of before applying is the status of the various nonhumans, if you intend to make such a character… Their information is further up in this thread and should be read before applying as a nonhuman. If you’d like to play a species not listed there, or need something cleared up, you can also ask on this thread.

With that out of the way, you can look below for the rules and application.

1 - Final decisions by the thread staff are final, this includes mission decisions and decisions about character power levels and what’s allowed and what isn’t. The staff may rebalance your character if your spells are too powerful or your spell costs are off.

2 - You should be able to use Discord if you’re in this RP. While it’s not a 100% requirement, you will likely be out of the planning loop without it. Furthermore, dice are used at certain times in things such as combat and if you aren’t on Discord, you will miss these rolls even when they impact your character. You’ll get the link when you join.

3 - Posts in the IC should be at least a good sized paragraph. A paragraph on PC, that is, not mobile.

4 - IC inactivity is grounds to have your character moved out of the way as a temporary NPC. If you don’t want this to happen, it’s a good idea to inform people of when you won’t be available so it can be planned around or so your character can be moved out of the way.

5 - You have relative freedom to choose the date of your posts… Try not to move too far away from the timeframe of the main story, however. Also, stay away from writing the same character in multiple scenes at one time if at all possible.

6 - The RP may be open to side arcs, player suggested missions, and the like. Please bring these ideas to the thread staff before attempting to start them, for planning purposes and to see if the idea works or not.

7 - For now, there’s little need for teacher characters or any other kinds of instructors. Most of the focus in the RP is on the student body. If you’re an experienced player, your idea for a teacher may be considered, but bear in mind the focus of the RP isn’t on these characters and you may find yourself with less to do than if you played a student.

8 - No Young Bloods players due to past history.

The Roster

This is the post to find player created characters, NPCs and more. If you have something that needs to be added, feel free to make a post on this thread about it.

Santa Marina Hunter Academy - Staff

Dean - Everett Trent
Magic: Holy, Psychic - Classes: Leadership
Preferring to stay out of the way of the students to an extent and to let the Academy run itself - even if that means letting students make their own mistakes, the Dean of the SMHA is a 47 year old former Hunter who was elevated to the position both by a strong bloodline and by a track record of dealing well with personnel matters.

Head Combat Instructor - Sieg Kuhn
Magic: Infernal, Holy - Classes: Combat, Combat Tactics, Unarmed Combat
An active Hunter, SIeg Kuhn, takes up the mantle of Head Combat Instructor - a rather informal type of person, Sieg may not be the typical instructor but has been proven to be one of the more effective Hunters in the field in this region, thanks to unconventional tactics.

Head Magic Studies Instructor - Calytrix
Magic: Holy, Light - Classes: Magical History, Holy Studies, General Magic Studies, Western Magic Studies
This calm and observant gender shifting angel has been around the Hunters Association for quite some time without visibly aging. That, of course, makes Calytrix a good candidate to aid those looking to dive into the libraries of the Academy, as well as someone to talk about the history and function of magic itself.

Head of Alchemical Studies - Fabiano Ajello
Magic: Alchemy, Enchantment - Classes: Enchantment Studies, Alchemical Studies, Rune Studies
The Italian 'mad scientist' is the man behind the school's enchantment and alchemical program, and is responsible for both teaching these concepts to others and for procuring any special enchanted equipment needed by the school. Ajello does, however, have a tendency to behave eccentrically.

Field Instructor - Nam-joo Yi
Magic: Force, Water - Classes: Investigation, Firearms
Despite her diminutive stature, Nam-joo is one of the more dangerous people around the Academy thanks to her powerful force magic as well as her water magic, which is used to make herself more elusive. 28, Nam-joo was sent here in hopes of restarting a promising hunting career.

Athletics Instructor - Fox Liao
Magic: Light, Physical - Classes: Magical Combat (Sport), Athletics
A former Magical Combat player from Hong Kong who graduated from the Milan Hunter Academy, Fox never quite became a star after college and returned to hunting before taking up a role as the coach of the Santa Marina Nighthawks, the school's combat team.

Psychologist - Chelsea Bianchi-Costa de Infarenza
Magic: Psychic, Holy - Classes: Holy Magic, Psychic Magic
The main instructor for both holy magic and psychic magic, Chelsea comes from a long line of Hunters of varying degrees of prominence, giving her the required pedigree to each a rather esteemed subject such as holy magic.
Hunters Association

Jordan Liao

Tag, I am mostly on mobile so if my paragraphs in the app seems a bit off just bear in mind that I can add more just in case the size of my app is shorter than I would've thought.

Not sure what kind of mage I want to play just yet, have to give the different schools a better look. Probably won't get the app up until Tuesday or Wednesday

SANTA MARINA HUNTER ACADEMY - STUDENT FILE
The following file has been approved for viewing by APPROVED PERSONNEL.

Gabriella Sara Bianchi-Costa De Inferenza

Name: Gabriella Sara Bianchi-Costa De Inferenza
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 22
Build: 5' 8"/173 cm, 58kg/128 lbs
Species: Human (Quarter Angel, Quarter Demon)

Magic Category: Gabriella mainly uses light and psychic magic.

Mana Count: 200.

Known Spells/Abilities:

  • Holy Sword (30): Gabriella manifests a rapier of pure holy magic in her hands to use as a weapon, more effective at breaking through magical defences and capable of weakening or nullifying dark and infernal magics on contact depending on the spell. The sword lasts for one hour, or until it is destroyed.
  • Healing (25): Gabriella focuses her mana into healing energy to repair physical wounds and injuries along with magical damage on a single target she can see, with healing being quicker if she can touch her target. Damages demonic entities if used on them.
  • Bless Weapon (2): Gabriella temporarily grants a mundane weapon the properties of being made of holy magic by imbuing it with holy magic, losing the properties after the first impact with an enemy.
  • Psychic Shield (30): Gabriella manifests a shield of faint purple energy around herself, capable of blocking weak physical attacks and some stronger magical attacks for a limited time.
  • Telepathy (10 per minute, 1 per meter of range): Gabriella reaches out with her mind, reading the thoughts of those nearby to her and able to directly implant her own thoughts back into the heads of those within her range.
  • Thought Sweep (5 per minute, 1 per 2 meters of range): A bastardized version of telepathy, used solely to locate the minds of others without seeing their contents but with a much reduced mana cost.
  • Psychic Lance (20): Gabriella casts a lance of pure psychic energy out towards an opponent, causing little physical damage but scrambling the target's senses for a long duration.
  • Lesser Illusion (10): Gabriella manifests a single illusionary thing, including associated audio, in the target's mind, the illusion being of her choice but only lasting for ten seconds.
  • Greater Illusion (40): Gabriella manifests a single illusionary thing, including associated audio, visible and audible to everyone, lasting for up to two minutes and fully under her control.
  • Psychic Obliteration (110): Gabriella's single most powerful spell, pitting her magic against an opponent's mind as she attempts to plunge them into a coma. Due to its vast mana requirement and single target nature, it's typically used against the most high value enemies, or if she's desperate. Can be healed, given sufficient time and mana.
  • Charm [0]: Gabriella possesses an unnatural charm which enhances her appearance to others and makes her come off as more attractive as well as slightly more charismatic and confident.

Equipment: Gabriella carries a Thompson Contender and a CZ 85 B.

Class: Second Year

Nationality: Swiss

Hometown: Bellinzona

Sexuality: Lesbian

Personality: Gabriella is a proud individual; proud of her lineage, her position as heir to her family, of her skills and capabilities. She comes off as cold and arrogant almost towards others, and can be quite aloof and dismissive of strangers at times, but always unfailingly polite in doing so. To those she does know, however, she's deeply loyal, and she has a deeply ingrained and almost traditional sense of honour and duty. She's calm and level-headed, but with a desire to prove herself to her family and to make them proud of her.

Biography: Gabriella is the eldest child and the current heiress of the De Inferenza family, a family that in ages past was one of the most prominent mage families, being founding members of The Hunters Association and members of predecessor organisations such as the Inquisition of the Holy See or the Witch-Hunters Guild, collecting vast quantities of ancient magical knowledge to them.

However, their glory days are long since past, and the modern family is one that is not well-known, but is well-respected among the higher levels of the magic community for their long tradition of service and knowledge. Gabriella learned her family's magic from a young age; when she enrolled in school, she began to learn magic at home, her family's traditional practice of holy magic along with mental magic which had been introduced into the family a few generations back to diversify their arsenal for the modern era.

Although her birth pulled her family from their duties as Hunters, they remained responsible for their local area, and so Gabriella would get rare opportunities to accompany her parents on small expeditions to deal with minor threats into their region. She did not fight herself, but she was able to observe how Hunters operated in the field, something that few her age got a chance to do. Eventually, she would be old enough to enter the Santa Marina Hunter Academy where the more recent generations of her family had also entered, foregoing keeping her training within the family further as had been tradition in prior generations. She did well in her first year, but not exceptionally well, and returned for her second year determined to better herself and not to disappoint her family again.

Yeah, how does Biological magic work?

TL:DR biological magic deals with, well, biomass and biology. Basically biomages are the ones that can create new beings to use as golems, and they tend to have the ability to alter the biology of others or sometimes themselves. Or at least they have the potential to do so. There's a lot of ways someone can play biomagic.
