Welcome to the Gaia Project!

The Gaia Project is a group dedicated to quality world-building and interested in casual role-play. As a newer region, our world is ever-developing and now is a great time to come on board. Much of our lore is a work in progress as members collaborate to develop a new world. A tight-nit group, the Gaia Project works to ensure a sense of community is fostered alongside our in-character efforts.

Gaia is a planet in the Ilios system home to all human life. Gaia is called the Allamokhullahaz, the graveyard of empires, She of the Seven Spires, Mother of Kings, Daughter of the White Sun, Seat of Dytika, and Song of Morning. Once, it was thought that the world was going to be consumed, steadily, by the growth of great empires – such as Cornicae, Hallania, and the Hierophany – were destined to divide the world between as humanity moved toward the ecumen, a view promoted rigorously by those states. The clashes of the Continental War and later, the economic decline of even the winning states of that conflict, permanently shattered the imperial view of society. Rising in the west and east, new collectivist powers such as Arlyon, the Hallanic Commonwealth, and the Erdaran Union, have begun to smoother the squalid embers of the imperial dream on the continent.


How to Begin:

In a major difference from other regions, the Gaia Project is more focused on the out-of-character aspects of an application than the in-character ones. Sharing ideas, working with other members, and showing a commitment to contributing to the region at large are all a part of the pathway to joining the Gaia Project. As multi-member collaborative project, the region is looking for prospective members who are willing to work not just on their own nations, but parts of the in-character world that transcend borders on the map. Religion, language, society, and former empires are just some examples of opportunities for creative collaboration. It is recommended that those interested join our Discord server. Government Type: Ashihara, de jure, is a parlimentary semi-constitutional monarchy under the Emperor, but de facto the country is ruled by a regent and the head of the only political party with the Emperor living in exile alongside many former daimyo. The government is dominated by civilio-military cliques, split between members of the old samurai and daimyo warrior and aristocratic classes, and 'new men', former lower-class men risen to prominence under the new regime, with there currently being thirteen cliques across the military and ministries. But the regent is old, and the cliques and imperial supporters abroad tensely make their preperations for the inevitable.
Culture: !Japanese, with elements of North Korean-style cult of personality around the current de facto leader. Minorities are TBD based on neighbours, but the central govt refuses to acknowledge their existence regardless.
Country Overview: Large, semi-dominant :notEastAsian: power for most of history, prone to collapses into warring periods that gradually eroded central imperial control over the centuries. Modern history is TBD due to unknown status of colonialism or lack thereof so the route from there to the modern day is likely subject to extensive change based on that.

  • Culture: Gaelicized Danish conculture. Manx (ICly Eilnish) minority. Majority of population is non-religious, traditionally people are Dísitrú.
  • Country Overview: An island nation, Crethia has 10 provinces with devolved powers as a federation. The earliest settlers were Finno-Ugric, who were eventually displaced by the Picts (Albi), who were themselves displaced by the Gaels. During the 11th century, the islands were conquered by Hallic raiders. Cultural fusion occurred, resulting in the emergence of a Gaelicized Danish culture. Country is unified under Hallic rule but once that ends it collapses into petty-kingdoms before unifying in the 15th century. Between the 17th-20th centuries it is independent for only a few decades, changing hands. Independence is eventually gained in the early 20th century.

  • Country Overview: A Gaelic nation historically known as the dominant force in Dysia. It struggled with foreign powers from across the sea in Hallania and also its neighbors to the south vying for control of Dysia, but Ronnland was able to stand strong and assert its dominance. During the early modern era, Ronnland started to fall behind in comparison to the rest of the world, and struggled to remain a power in regions outside of Dysia. By the 20th century, the nation had modernized and overthrew their king in a peaceful revolution. The nation went through economic troubles, which became even more apparent post-Great War. In the modern era, Ronnland remains more conservative in nature, and is most famous for its sheep farming, highlands, and travel. It is no longer a geopolitical power like the days of old.

  • Country Overview: Juznia was formerly a part of Hytekojuznia from the late 19th century until 1989. In 1986 the country declared it's independence and fought a 3 year civil war ended with the Višnevas accords signed on October 27, 1989. Following the end of the war Juzniks were promised a new constitution enshrining human rights and democracy in the law, but this never came to fruition. In the 1990s the country suffered under a slowly growing economy and continuing Hytek aggression over the city of Grobina. The first war saw a Hytek victory and the loss of West Grobina but in the second war a coalition of !Germanian nations united to fight against Hytekia leading to the fall of the communist regime. The years following the second war continued to be characterised by poor economic growth, high emigration and the highest suicide rate in the world. In 2004 the blue revolution broke out with protesters demanding an end to the military government. They succeeded, and the government of Ričardas Petrauskas resigned. In the first elections a coalition of liberal parties known as Nauja tauta (A New Nation) won the elections and enacted economic and social reforms and grew Juznia's relationship with it's neighbours.

  • Culture: Various Sami cultures dominated and assimilated into the "Almic" culture, which is primarily based on the Northern Sami of the big island. Ethnic minorities include Mascyllans and Juzniks, and perhaps others.
  • Country Overview: Alriika is an island nation inhabiting the northern portions of Germania, and has been inhabited by Finno-Ugric peoples since its discovery deep in prehistory. The island would practice a largely tribalistic confederal system called the siida until the 11th century, when various shaman kings would assert their rule to unify the islands against raiders from Hallania. The rule of priest kings would give way to a variation of the siida, though governed by town councils and various reindeer/sheep herding and fishing cooperatives, largely dominated by the !Northern Sami tribes who would gradually come to dominate the other islands politically and culturally, with Sangashamman, the capital, becoming not only the largest settlement but also the largest concentration of !Northern Sami outside of their ancestral island. A lot of history needs to be re-written, but I would like for it ruled for a time, perhaps by Mascylla, where it would gain independence soon after. I still need my Oskar Aikio. Alriika transfers itself from an agricultural society based mostly on fish, sheep, and reindeer to a knowledge and service economy, attracting tech companies and tourism industries capitalizing on Alriika's geography and geothermal activity.

  • Country Overview: inium was historically the home of several large tribes including the Sindals, the Brachlings, and the Rennish. But these tribes were often buffeted by migratory waves across the continent, many leaving a strong influence on Finian culture. Starting in the early 6th century CE, the Brachlings consolidated their power and, while they only had intermittent control of Finium, became the most important peoples along the Subdurnish coastal plains. The greater states of Lavaria often held sway over the tribes of Finium, sometimes as direct overlords and other times merely as cultural influencers and economic monopsonists. Finium is sometimes known as the Land of Knights for the historical prominence of the feudatory nobles. Many knightly orders are still active to this day, though they have become fraternities, military units, and even drug cartels. An authoritarian republican movement in the 1940s secured a constitution from Finium's absolutists and is still a strong presence in the national government.

  • Country Overview: Prior to the early 15th century, the lands that today make up the Chunmeian Kingdom were divided among at least several dozen smaller kingdoms and chiefdoms that just barely tolerated each other's existence for centuries whilst plundering the lands around them in search of resources and slaves. This general cycle of feudal strife continued until 1403 when the deaths of several prominent chieftains kicked off a huge six-way civil war amongst the reeling Chunmeian states, raging for over 17 long years until the leader of one of the warring factions was able to pacify the region and unite the defeated peoples under his banner, crowning himself the first Emperor of Chunmei in 1422. Despite the centralisation of the region under the emperor's strong rulership, the civil unrest never truly went away, with many monarchs chomping at the bit to keep things in order whilst old tribal loyalties took greater precedence over the unified Chunmeian identity that was struggling to take hold. By the mid-19th century, however, things had mostly settled down and the country was modernising at a rapid pace as a result of the new parliament's reformations and strengthening bilateral ties with the nations of Cardia. Today, the country continues to push ever further into the future, though it still takes much influence from the stubborn conservatism of its people and governing institutions, not to mention the widespread adherence to old traditions and folk religions that have long been heralded as the nation's true defining characteristics.

  • Culture: Lilieburg is predominantly German speaking and cultured; more specifically it resembles the Germans of the traditional regions of Baden and Württemburg.
  • Country Overview: Lilienburg is a city state consisting of the traditional Germanic university town of Lilienburg. Originally growing up around the university, one of the oldest in the world, as the industrial revolution hit the city grew rapidly as heavy industry made its way into the outer regions of the city. Traditionally an aristocratic republic run by the city’s rich and powerful and by the university’s graduates, the city would, as revolutions sweeped the lands in the 19th century, reform itself to a more democratic mode of governance. It was occupied by Hytekojuznia in the run-up to the Continental War, which was a major factor in the eventual declaration of war, yet gained independence again after the war ended. In the years after, unions and workers’ co-operatives have played large roles across the city and become a staple part of the nation’s economy and society; their growing influence led to a strong democratic socialist movement which has enacted reforms that have increased their power; the city has one of the highest unionisation rates in the world and is thus often seen as being an example of democratic socialism, however accurately. The city has thus been termed the “People’s Republic of Lilienburg”

    While the city is a rather egalitarian society and is highly developed and democratic, it is not without its issues. A divide exists between the historic centre of the city, largely dominated by the university, and the industrial outskirts, while the city also has rather strained relations with other, more conservative nations.

  • Culture: Essentially !Danish, with a whole host of dialectal minorities who border on separate languages, and a lot of Hallanian minorities on the borders and miration during the unified period.
  • Country Overview: The largest successor state to the Kingdom of Hallania, it is a federal republic with a presidential system. For most of its history it was divided between a variety of shifting states, until the Kingdom of Tuskval emerged as the largest c. 16th century. This kingdom then went on to unite Hallania until its collapse in the modern era. Modern Tuskval is an highly developed, urban, secular nation but which suffers from an imperial presidency, ignored minorities, disputes with other Hallian nations etc.

  • Government Type: Merchant/corporate republic, polycentric society
  • Culture: Linguistically predominantly !Wu and would mostly by default be Wuyue culture, with other parts of China and East Asia in areas. However the !Chinese civilization preceding it would have lacked the centralizing and homogenizing influences of legalism and legalistic Confucianism, making attitudes and aesthetics significantly different. Saliently, the 'East Asian familial obedience' meme is almost totally absent.
  • Country Overview: Politically, Ragland does not exist; it is only used as an approximation of the territories controlled or influenced by a merchants' association centred in the city of Ioktsou.

    This 'Ioktsou Confederacy' traces its roots to the Axial Empire (working name), an expansive state which was created by a charismatic prophet in the 13th century supported by a burgeoning merchant class. This prophet, Yang the Thirteenth (working name), formulated doctrines that were in favor of the application of a transcendent customary law (expressed as the ultimate direction of the Universe) as the main form of social order, and by extension minarchistic governance based mostly on courts and private arbitration following such a law. Due to this within a few decades of its creation the Empire's central government withered away and it instead became a large confederation of states that agreed to uphold this 'law'.

    Innovation and entrepreneurship was spurred by the freedoms and protections guaranteed by the 'law' and an industrious (not industrial) revolution occurred in the 15th century that turned the Empire into a manufacturing hub which exported goods to the West in return for bullion. This arrangement worked well until the 17th century when various events and disasters lead to the Empire's collapse (and the world economy by extension).

    The former capital of the Empire and one-time global economic hub, Thatsong 太中, still held political significance due to its religious position as the first place graced by Yang's revelations. The merchants of the Ragland area surrounding Thatsong had brought stability to the area, but in pursuit of expansion they acted in the city's name and proclaimed themselves to be the legitimate successors of the Axial Empire's mandate to spread 'law' on Gaia. Over time they have become a major power in the former Empire alongside [Prem's nation] and other confederacies as well as a junction of the world economy (the east experiences its own industrial revolution?).

    Like its spiritual predecessor Ragland is a fairly loose polity with a minimal government that does not exist by most western standards, predicated upon following the 'law', which would be shared by many neighboring countries. The 'confederacy' is basically a cooperative defense pact that protects and arbitrates the 'law' in the bounds of actual polities agreeing to be members of such a venture. Thus the 'government' in Ioktsou has absorbed many different areas and governments into its fold. The country enjoys high economic freedoms and a strong presence of property rights. Most disputes are solved customarily according to the 'law', assisted by cleric-jurists; this is scaleable, from individuals all the way to constituent states.

    Although one of the wealthiest countries around Ragland has some social and political conflicts. A !socialist/!syndicalist movement has emerged among the working class in the 20th century and continues to incite subversion, though usually ruthlessly suppressed. Centralization-oriented statist reformers are another concern. Externally the confederacy competes with its neighbors in frequent corporate warfare and has major problems with Ashihara, which is viewed as a prime enemy of the 'law'.

    In the immediate aftermath of the empire's collapse, the charismatic temple priest Hanying would consolidate power around the city of Namsi 南市. Hanying claimed to have been visited by the spirit of Yang the Thirteenth on several occasions, mostly in dreams. Yang told Hanying that the down fall of the Axial Empire was the result of the spiritual impurity and immorality of its people and tasked Hanying with reforging a new empire. Claiming himself to be the next prophet, Hanying would quickly gain a large supporter base along the southern periphery of the Axial Empire. Hanying would declare himself Chosen by Heaven 皇帝 and launch several wars against neighbouring fiefs. These conquests came to a halt when it became evident that a total reconquest of the Axial Empire was unfeasible. Like its neighbours and predecessor, Wun is a loose confederacy of communities under what many would label a night-watchman state. The socioeconomic hub of these communities is Namsi, which acts as the primes inter pares within the Heavenly Realm.

    Kustlan has a long record of social tolerance, having legalised abortion and human euthanasia, along with maintaining a progressive drug policy.     The first Arlyonish state was created in 1053 when two dukedoms were united in personal union with the two dukedoms being merged into the Kingdom of Arlyon. The Arlyonish kingdom would steadily expand until the 1500’s when a succession war saw the kingdom reduced in size and prestige. The 1600’s would see the country begin to rise in strength again until entering a golden age from the 1700’s-early 1800’s which ended after prolonged revolutionary activity. In 1812 the first Arlyonish parliament was inaugurated but was shut down just 7 years later restoring absolutist rule, leading to agitation for more radical republicanism. As a result of (some kind of disaster) in 1877 the monarchy was overthrown and replaced with a parliamentary republic. The republic was known initially for its anti-clerical and radical reformarty nature but during the early 20th century became politically inert despite the country scientifically and culturally going through a golden age. Some kind of crisis in 1916 led to the overthrow of the republican government by the military and the start of the “Years of Lead” ending the golden age of culture and innovation.

    In 1927 the military regime screwed up in some way (losing a war is preferable but can also be shooting strikers/protesters or another appropriate scenario). Revolutionaries took to the streets declaring a general strike that paralysed the country; when the milice were deployed to break up the protesters many of them defected or joined the revolutionaries, leading to the regime to collapse and a socialist federation to be declared. Initially the new government was heavily divided between liberal democrats, anarchists and more authoritarian-minded socialists. A left-wing republic was declared mixing in representative elements (including an elected parliament and political parties) alongside direct elements in the economy based on the idea of workers’ self management. During the 1940’s political parties became restricted by a clique of revolutionary military officers. From the mid-1990’s there was a period of more right-wing reform and reconciliation with capitalist countries but since more recently there has been a greater trend towards supporting international socialism and revolutionary trends in line with policy followed from the federations creation in 1927. Unrest in *ethnic minority region* alongside far-right terrorism have been perennial issues since 1927.

    Arlyon is currently structured as a republic with the head of state being the Chairman of the Council of Cantons and the head of government the Chairman of the Council of Ministers with elections to the Supreme Council of Communes and Cantons being held every five years. Major factions politically include orthodox socialists, libertarian socialists, syndicalists, anarchists, social democrats, nationalist-socialists (nazbol gang), communist equivalent, liberals/radicals/third way and religious socialists. The main divide is however between technocrats (those who believe in gradualism or reformism as a strategy) and revolutionaries (those who favour more aggressively socialist internal and external policies ranging from anarchists to nationalist-socialists) The country’s economy is a mix of government-owned businesses, those managed by workers’ cooperatives and a small private sector combining elements of market socialism with mutualism and more traditional state-led initiatives. Foreign policy is based on “three spheres theories” which divides the world into the reactionary sphere, the revolutionary sphere and the unaligned sphere; cooperation should be pursued with the revolutionary sphere, armed deterrence with the reactionary sphere and co-existence with the unaligned sphere with co-existence either pre-figuring cooperation or supporting revolutionary activity depending on the nation in the un-aligned sphere.

An important factor in the country's historical development were the Hallanian migrations in the early Middle Ages, although continuing further, as they resulted in the development of a fairly 'alien' element to the Javol peoples' development, and created animosity.

    Since, the country has experienced a considerable degree of stability as a democratic polity in spite of ethnic troubles that plagued the country between 1940 to 1958 (the 'Turbulent Decades') and ultimately resulted in the country's federalization. As a small, dynamic economy, Vetonia's foreign policy is that of encouraging integration and globalization to open up markets to its products and it also plays a significant role as a cultural hub.

    The country's political system (from my POV as a polsci nerd) is the best part. It's basically a consociational republic taken to the extreme, as with the exception of the radical left and the greens, the entire political spectrum is divided across ideological and ethnic lines, meaning the country's parliament has 26 parties (with 10-15 of significance) and usually a centre-left coalition has governed the country.

Chokashia is considered to be one of the most undemocratic countries in the world and has special jails and camps for political prisoners. All news and papers are owned by the state and the internet is highly monitored. Chokashia doesn't care much about with whom it has foreign relations, it has a very pragmatic foreign policy which is oriented towards securing the best interests of Chokashia. Although, sometimes Chokashia will help a nationalist movement abroad to gain power or even a secessionist one as it sees itself as a country that is the big brother of all other nationalist movements in the region, and it strongly supports self-determination (if it is justified and if, of course, benefits Chokashia).

The first official record of Oseva as a unified state comes from 1126 when Duke Eugeniusz I defeated the League of Three Princes at the Battle of Zarówka Field, following which, he crowned himself King of the Kingdom of Oseva. In the late 20th century, fearing Oseva's decline before the major powers in Iraia, especially the ever growing threat of neighboring Dulebia, King Franciszek VI and his favoured Prime Minister, Antoni Mazurkiewicz, initiated steps toward industrialisation. Despite often violent resistance from agrarian aristocrats and elites, the King and premier succeed in industrialising the regions around Darlowo, Ossova, Jasionka and Jezorio. This enabled Oseva to steadily emerge as a strong independent state into the early 20th century, however, the disparity in development, worker agitation and working-class identity inevitably led to low-level revolutionary actions and political instability. The onset of the Continental War and Oseva's siding with the Grand Alliance and ultimate victory. However, the war left Oseva with significant damage and a working class who expected the war to deliver real social, political and economic change. In 1919, this led to the introduction of universal suffrage for all aged 21 and above. Despite the new found vote, elections saw extensive state interference, ensuring compliant liberal or centre-right parties entered power, denying the far-left any viable influence over government. This in turn led to the emergence of the Radical Osevian Worker's League (Radykalna Orsewska Liga Robotnicza; ROLR), which coalesced all major left-wing parties in secret. Between 1921 and 1923, aided by Arlyonish and Dulebian agents, it plotted the overthrow of the constitutional monarchy and the establishment of worker's government. In 1924, the plot was discovered by the Osevian army, who used insider agents to destroy the ROLR in what became known as the Ossova Massacre - over 800 ROLR leaders and members were killed by soldiers after their meeting in the Ossova Worker's Hall was stormed by soldiers with rifles and grenades, this was followed by the nationwide hunt and mass incarceration of ROLR members and supporters.

The destruction of ROLR gave Oseva some years of peace and social harmony, enabling further economic growth and industrialisation, while the power of the monarch was reduced in benefit of the military. What followed during the 1920s and 1930s was a succession of right-wing traditionalist governments, aided and subordinate to the military, who exercised near complete judicial control over Oseva, in perpetual fear of a return of far-leftist agitation. This corresponded with the period known as the Red Scare and saw Oseva emerge as the one of the most anti-left states in Iraia. In 1956, a series of scandals involving the Crown broke, indicating that a corruptive rot had entered the highest levels of Oseva's state. Mass protests and the fear of a leftist hijacking ultimately led to the abdication of King Marijan II and the establishment of a parliamentary republic. However, the republic's hastily constructed constitution left the central government weak and inflicted on Oseva a revolving door of prime ministers and coalition governments. Poor wage growth, rapidily increasing costs of living and disparities between the urban and rural resulted in a resurgence of the left during the 1960s and 1970s. In November 1975, mass protests over living costs resulted in general strikes and political violence, which ended with the collapse of the centre-right government and its replacement by a reformist centrist coalition. However, it too succumb to mass protest following a corruption scandal in January 1977, in which leftist groups staged bombings, assassinations and mass protests, a snap election resulted in the Radical Labour Party (Radykalna Partia Pracy, RPP) winning power with the support of two smaller far-left parties. The RPP government under Prime Minister Tomasz Poplawski was the first left-wing government in Osevian history and despite assurances to the contrary, it began to introduce hard-leftist reforms and policies. Fearful of the direction of government, the Osevian military began supporting and training right-wing groups to agitate the government, this resulted in protests, bombings and assassinations which paralyzed the government. This culminated in the 1979 coup d'etat, which overthrew the RPP government and the establishment of a military dictatorship. The military then suspended the parliament, constitution and dissolved all left-wing parties in Oseva, killing or imprisoning hundreds of leftist figures and supporters.

Since 1979, the Osevian military has held an all-dominating position in Oseva. In 1985, it introduced a new constitution which codified its position through the National Covenant for Security and Prosperity. The NCSP "oversees and manages" Osevian government and democracy through its patronage of the Popular and National Revival Movement, a right-wing party that has governed Oseva uninterrupted since 1986. Despite its immense influence and control, the military has delegated much of its original authority to the "elected" government, which has introduced many free-market orientated economic reforms, while the military has maintined tight control over society through its own command over law enforcement and the Ministries of Homeland Defence and State Security. Today, Oseva is marked by its hybrid democratic-junta government, its poor human rights record, but also its success in economic reform and liberalisation. Societally, through efforts by the PNRM and NCSP, it remains a deeply religious and traditional society.

  • Culture: The Autumn State consists of a population known as the Tauren (淘人), and speak Tauwen (淘文). The Autumn State itself contains minorities of the Hairen (海人) which also speak Tauwen. The Autumn State is not opposed to foreigners and Tauren in particular see foreigners as an auspicious sign. It should be noted though that Tauren and Foreigners tend not to marry into the same family as the culture is very homogeneous. This has however been subject to change as interest in the country has been sparked by recent tourism and the funding of overseas travel estates. Familial ties are seen as a count of loyalty and still employ the Sudanese kinship system but are not seen as truly important since the Xi State.

The Autumn State is an autocratic monarchy at its head that heeds to the state religion. It has historically existed and still exists as a very centralized state with both economic affairs and political affairs. However its control on social issues has culturally been more free than its authoritarian countries but not by much comparison. The Autumn State itself exists as an oddity of Aussian states, as it does not subscribe to totalitarian power control but does also not devolve itself into a lack of statism. It attempts to balance itself on the blade edge but always seems to fall too far to one side.

The Autumn State first came into existence long ago in the early 1,000 B.C.E. as the Cao State (曹朝) which was a united federation of tribes and leaders under the Dynastic Leader Cao Ma (曹馬), who united the federation under an attempt to collectivize the economics of every family. While this planted the grassroots of the Autumn State’s roots on centralization, this did not work as Cao Ma died before his work was complete and the record had been kept. His son stepped in, and for three centuries the Cao family ruled as fairly ineffective leaders. Time after time Cao Ma’s economic plan of collectivization was attempted and was then rebuffed by the ineffectuality of the plan. That economic plan was later lost as the Cao Dynasty was snuffed out. Legend tells in the story of the Haidau (海火鬭; Sea of Fire Trial) that four dynasties stormed the capital, Xichang, and killed the remaining descendents of the Cao Dynasty. They they formed the Xia Alliance (下盟) which was a very uneasy confederation of centralized countries. The Xia Alliance is shrouded in Tau classicals, and at this point Tau literature begins to take off. It is at this point where historical accuracy in the Xia Alliance begins to start becoming obscured with mythology.

The current state of the Autumn State comes from the 18th century, however has gone extreme modernization that its government is foreign compared to that of its original government. A constitutional crisis which initiated a civil war in the 19th century which was put down violently, leading to the modernized government of the Autumn State, where many areas, especially in urban areas, under more surveillance and the extreme limiting of media and internet access. Personal civil rights are however still respected but are under scrutiny from the current government.

  • Culture: The vast majority of the people in Gerwain are Gerwennic (Breton) and speak the Gerwennic language. Besides this, Penntians (Cornish) are a sizable minority that live primarily in the northeast close to Penntia. Both languages are recognized as official languages of Gerwain. Religion will be dealt with later but will probably be predominantly !Christian with a number of pagans, the latter of which primarily in the west.
  • Country Overview: Gerwain, the second smallest and southernmost of the Dysian states, was historically considered the "backwater" of Dysia. Geographically separate from the rest of Dysia, it had little interaction with the other cultures save for Penntia. The people that came to be the Gerwennics are thought to have originate in Penntia, crossing over the strait between the two islands. Much like Penntia, Gerwain was an unstable mess of kingdoms and duchies for centuries, that were isolated from the rest of the region, save for short periods in which the northeast was controlled by Penntian rulers (resulting in the now rather prominent Penntian population there). The nation would unify into a single kingdom sometime in the late middle ages after a number of wars. Gerwain was for the most part friendly to its neighbors, but lagged behind in terms of technology. Despite this, since the later Industrial Era and continuing until today, Gerwain has become a largely modernized nation on par with its neighbors.

    Jnitially, there were Similian states along the west coast and coastal mountains and Chenturian tribes in the rest of the country. Firstly, the Similian states united to the Similian Kingdom in the 7th century, then the Chenturian ones did in the 10th century and conquered the Similian Kingdom. The Chenturian Kingdom spread between 1000–1300 and I am tempted to make it a Chenturian Empire that eventually collapsed on itself, leaving only the heartland in the Chenturian Kingdom by 1400. Later, this also broke up until 1500, when there were several Kingdoms and smaller states.
    Along the coast, in the 16th century, Hesurian settlers came, building farming and fishing villages. In the 17th century, Hesurian port cities were founded, some being independent city states, others being controlled by the states of Hesuria.
    A faction system developed in Chenturia that still exists to this day and has similarities to other class and caste systems; it is easy to fall down, but possible to get into a higher level. More on that later.
    In the 19th century, areas under Hesurian control or influence become somewhat industrialized, although much of the country’s rural areas remained in a præindustrial limbo to this day.
    Due to partial Hesurian control and different factional alliances and alignments, what is now Chenturia is pulled into the Continental War, the outcome of which we would have to discuss, though I assume it includes a unified Chenturian Republic, a sovereign Similian Kingdom and a bunch of Hesurian Free Cities and possibly exclaves.
    By the 1940s, Chenturian democracy is weakened through corruption, factionalism and so on. It openly provokes conflict with the Similian Kingdom which is doing quite well and in 1941 declares war. In the Chenturian-Similian War (1941–1943), the Chenturian Republic occupies the Similian Kingdom and in 1945, it officially annexes it, with the global community præferably looking away.
    In the late 40s, some Chenturian factions start to claim Hesurian free cities and territories as rightfully Chenturian land. These voices get louder until the Hesuro-Chenturian War in the 50s, ending in Hesurian occupation of Similia and Western Chenturia and the Chenturian Revolution in Eastern Chenturia, failing to establish the Democratic People’s Republic of Chenturia in 1955. In the 1960s or 70s, it becomes incorporated into occupied Chenturia, which the occupying powers try to fix.
    At some point after that, Chenturia regains sovereignty as the population feels mistreated and exploited, resulting in large-scale strikes and protests.
    The present problems Chenturia faces include factionalism and corruption as well as socioeconomic disparities. Much of the infrastructure is in bad condition and outdated, in remote areas nonexistant, hindering economic growth. The central government seems to have less and less control, with the factions being increasingly powerful again in some areas.
    For some people, the conflicts of old are not yet forgiven, giving ethnic tensions and separatist movements (Similians, Hesurians).
    On the other hand, Chenturia is fairly large and rich in natural resources.
    In the more stable industrialized areas, the economy has been growing again. Elsewhere, it is largely stagnant.
    Major economic sectors include agriculture, food processing, machinery production, mining and the textile industry.
