Navy Day - Republic of Port Ember

The historic grounds of the Maritime University of Port Ember was known for its peacefull atmosphere, caused by the tranquil gardens and historic buildings, combined with a rich history of learning and advancing the maritime field.

But not today. Today the hollowed grounds were buzzing with activity, and thousands of thousands of festival-goer feet. The normal atmosphere have been replaced with an atmosphere of excitement and joy. Today was the annual Navy Day Celebrations and folk - and navies - from around the world have flocked to the island paradise of Port Ember to join in the yearly tradition of Commemorating, Celebrating and Honoring the rich and vast maritime history of the Republic.

The gates of the university were gaurded by a private events security company - identifiable by men in black Tshirts with a yellow 'Security' print, whilst a attachment of Security Forces Task Force 79 (Special Forces) were unseen - but present to deal with the more serious threats should any arise.

The legion of gate security was screening the incoming visitors by looking for their neon green armbands - the proof of being a ticket holder to the event. Once the visitor was allowed entrance, they would be shown into the direction of the Central Manor, where the proceedings would be opened by none other than the Minister of Defence - Jan Breytenbach.

Just outside and in front of the Central Manor stood a small podium with a impressive sound system setup which would be used to deliver the opening speech. The minister himself was standing near the podium, periodically keeping an eye on his watch, whilst in conversation with high ranking Naval Officers. The minister looked upon the assembling crowd - scanning for a familiour face. Although the impending speech was the reason for his presence, it was not his main concern. He was looking for a very specific face, dissapointed in not seeing it yet. With a soft sigh he fixed his suit in preparation of delivering his speech...The annual Navy Day was about to begin!

A cruiser slows, the gold paint spelling out "RKS Rising Dawn" on its side. From its mast, the great flag of Kafiar flies. Under it, the flag of the navy(https://i.imgur.com/qiWEmQx.png) flies. And at the bottom, larger than the naval flag, flies the flag of Port Ember. As the ship drops anchor, awaiting confirmation to dock, 2 of its 6 guns turn, skywards. They fire, 2 blank shots ringing out. The sailors walk on the deck, waiting till the speech heralding the start to the event would begin. Among them are 2 men. One, with the patch and uniform of a Admiral, and one with the markings of a captain. They quietly talk, both armed with ceremonial sabers. A group of 30 men, in dress uniform, mill about, also with sabers, and assault rifles and P90's. They would be those going off for the drill, but that would be later.

SDFS Maighdean, just off the University Docks.
Ensign Kayla Urchair of the Tribe of Sligo.

So... this was Port Ember.
Flying their flag alongside ours, we were the vessel the SDF-Navy had dispatched to Port Ember for the Naval Day Celebrations. We were 79 Year 2 Ensigns on a training cruise, 25 men of Mona's Boys and 346 actual crewmen of the vessel of around 13,000 tons, which was armed and ready.
Usually, SDFS Rhiannon would do such representatives tasks, but she was occupied elsewhere, as were the other five 'Divine Frigates', as they were called. The Ensigns and crews were here to represent the Free Lands and their navy on this day and we would do so spledidly.
But to me, there was another task in addition to that: Captain Galen Trodaí of the Tribe of Westmeath was my date. My crush. If one expected me to squeal in delight, you would be sorely mistaken, for I was nervous - I had attended a diplomatic ball before, that was true, but that shindig had ended with more of a let-down then anything else.
Having donned the black sailor suit and black skirt, which was the uniform of the Naval School and standing alongside my fellow students, manning the rails along with the crew filled me with pride, especially when, during the inspection of the formation, Captain Trodaí attested us Ensigns, that we looked good, which he claimed was the result of good drill and inspection by the leader of the student contingent, the young woman standing next to me.
Ensign Fiona Bláth of the Tribe of Wexford was used to commanding, she was Captain of the Naval School's very own Sensha-Do Team, after all, and commander of one of its tanks - and I was her driver. She glanced to the side and smiled, I returned the gesture.
As we would soon dock, we were all looking forward as to what the day would bring. We, as Ensigns, were allowed to go ashore and experience Port Ember and the festival and everything belonging to it.
It would be awesome!

Inside Alpha Hall.
Nora Cathlong of the Tribe of Cork.

SDY, Silverport Dockyards Limited, would of course not miss this opportunity and of course, I had to be here. Two of my top men and a number of company personell were here to talk to festival-goers interested in our company and its work, which spanned from warships big and small to more... interesting things.
We had a bit of a stall going on, with models of our ships, catalogues, coffee-table books (you can't believe how thankful I am to Prince Damir for lending us the Aurelia and for Bicíní Industries for lending us a few of their girls for that photoshooting...) and even a small section, where model kits were sold at affordable prices, including the SDFS Maighdean.
However, core of this display were Raidri Gormchló of the Tribe of Fingal, the new Head of Yard 15, and Yvain Saighead of the Tribe of Westmeath, the new company representative, who had survived his trial by fire in Teressien just a few weeks prior.
I, as SDY's CEO, was here, too.
I was here not only for SDY, though. Having hitched a ride on the Cineal as well had been the band Leannáin and my daughter, Gwen, predecessor to both Raidri and Yvain, and her best friend Fiona Banphrionsa.
Gwen was currently pregnant with the child of the local Minister of Defense.
That was enough of a political and social issue (did anyone just yell Nepotism?), but it was also a familial issue. Of course, there were marriage plans floating around, but it was well within my rights as the matriarch of an important family to forbid that, as both law and tradition allowed me.
Port Ember was very liberal.
Imagine the rest.
His dinner with us during his visit to the last Spring Festival had been a rather frosty affair, to put it lightly, my Father joking at one point, that he should turn on the heater - he didn't give two shits as long as he got to play with the Great-Grandkids. As that was not something depending on who married whom (it was out of question that Gwenny would carry the child to term), things were... difficult.
Between me and Gwen as well.
Still, she was here, she had traveled here with me. We had skirted the topic, expertly, I might add, and now she was sitting on one of the chairs at the ready, Fiona next to her.
The brunette was her best friend and was there for Gwenny in a way, that I couldn't. And she had experience with childbirth and pregnancy - granted, from Tines, but it was a start.
"Openening's soon.", Raidri suddenly said with that annoying smirk of his, "Don't you want to go there with Gwen, Nora?" I thought for a moment. "Don't worry, Yvain and I have everything under control!"
"Or we pretend to.", Yvain said with a bit of humour, which made me snort. "Go. You can burn bridges later."
He had a point...
and five minutes later, I was on Gwenny's other flank as Fiona and I escorted her through the crowds to the University Central Manor in order to listen to the opening speech of the father of my grandchild. We haven't even asked for the gender yet.
Anyway, we were here, on time, rather far in the back of the crowd, so that he might not spot us. We, of course, wore Geansai, although Gwen had chosen to discard the cloak, so that her stomach was visible.
It drew the odd glance, I knew, but... I was looking forward to hearing the speech, I must admit. And to compare it to what my own countrymen said at similar occassions.

In front of the University Central Manor.
Alaina Trasnaigh of the Tribe of Clonmel.

Selkie-Rock had a specific form, known as Duo-Rock. It had, as the name implied, two musicians, usually two guitarists, one of which could also act as the main-vocalist.
I was that, my partner, Layla Dearg of the Tribe of Waterford, was the bassist and she could, when in doubt, also play the keyboard.
We were here at the Navy Day of Port Ember to play music, to see some ships (we had already spotted our ship, SDFS Maighdean) and to have fun - who said, that it had to be all work and no play? Of course, we had hitched a ride on the Cineal, together with the Cathlongs, but we had left them mostly to their own problems as we had practiced.
It would have been easier to take a plane, sure, but also worse for the environment, even with the turboprop-hoppers, which they built these days.
Anyway, we were here and we would play music from the album Arís sa Sárú arís, from this year. Of course, the album had long since premiered in the Free Lands and one could see enough videos on WhoTube of us performing songs from that album and other songs.
Even parts of our troop entertainment visit to Operation Spartacus was there, when we had gone there with Mhairi and Eileen from Dísréad to keep up the spirits of our lads and lassies.
We would play here a selection of songs from Arís sa Sárú arís, of course singing them in Selkie, but for now, we were on the plaza in front of the University Central Manor, waiting for the opening. We were rather wide in front, but if people would recognize either of us, it was made harder by us blending in, wearing jeans and shirts, or, in my case, a blouse. Sunglasses completed the look.
We had almost bathed in sunscreen.
Anyway, here we were... ready to see the Festival.
What would the day bring? Besides our music, of course...
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Elias & Euphoria - In Front of the The University Central Manor
Euphoria loved her job. It was a job that was afflicted with a great privilege: The foreign trip. For Sophists, as Euphoria was one, it was strictly forbidden to leave the country, except for diplomats and representative politicians. And for people like Euphoria.
She works in the "Office for the Documentation of the Social Situation of Foreign Countries", ODSSC for short. Her profession is called a social documentary and is very important and respected in the epistocratic confederation. Sophistan categorizes all countries in the world in specially designed categories, and then decides if and to what extent cooperation could arise. This requires the social documentaries who travel abroad and describe exactly how and according to which principles people and politics work there. Euphoria's task was now to go to the celebrations of the Navy Day in Port Ember, to document the festive culture there. This ambiance itself was not the only thing that pleased Euphoria, but the fact that she could actually sit back and enjoy the party. Port Ember was so poor in terms of collaboration that there was no point in documenting anything. Democracy, the free market economy, and personal liberty, all this was possessed by Port Ember, and all this was hated by the Sophist elites.
Euphoria, however, was not alone, but was accompanied by her big brother Elias. For Elias, this is the first trip abroad and his first task as a social documentary. He had quit his studies and was now unable to find a suitable job. So she recommended him to her boss and got the instruction to introduce him.
The two were now standing in line at the gate to be checked by the guards for their bracelets. Euphoria wore a white toga, which was held with a golden buckle. Such a garment was given to all diplomats and foreign contractors so that they could operate in foreign countries. Her brown hair was pinned up in a fine, Greek hairstyle. Outstanding were her sandals glittering in a velvet red leather.
Her brother stood next to her, completely naked and freely presenting his masculinity. His steely, muscular body was slightly tanned by the sun of the tropics. Her brother stood next to her, completely naked and freely presenting his masculinity. His steely, muscular body was slightly tanned by the sun of the tropics. The costume of Adam was due in Sophistan, due to the ban on clothing and Elijah had strictly refused to turn away from this cultural property. The caused some problems, as he had at the port the instruction to put on something. Since then he was free again, but he still looked grim.
"Individualistic scumbags," he scolded in Greek. "They wanted to squeeze me their primitive way of life".
"Do not get worked up that way," Euphoria replied. "House rules are house rules, otherwise they will leave you alone, because that is what individualistic means".
She rolled her eyes. "Plato has not determined nudity," she said. "Look, you can be glad you got the job, even though you do not even have a beachlor in sociology, you have to learn that in very few countries is it even allowed to run around nude, you're lucky it is allowed here. "
"Yes but..."
"No but, now come, we enjoy the celebrations", when she said that, it was her turn to show the guards their ribbons.

A Large Destroyer, sporting both Iarann Grudaidh and Port Ember flags, with "HH Patricia" written in red on the side would be in the harbour, patiently waiting. The commander, Avery Miles, would step out of his small office, and up onto the top deck. As he stretched his limbs, he watched the countless civilians enjoying their days in the beautiful tropics. He'd take a sip of his Grudaidh brand water

Many of his crew would pass him during this period of peace, Avery knew that today would be successful, and was happy that his men and women were representing his country for the greater good.

Avery always liked something about the oceans, they brought him peace and calmness. It was a mystery he never really got over.

He'd sit at a nearby seat and pull out his Mobile Database, trying to memorize the schedule and other important details. He never really understood civilian life anymore, that happens with the IG military, it's so well funded that people can easily dedicate their whole lives to that one cause, which makes IG an awful foe to face and a good ally to have.

CNMS Triumphant - 30 nautical miles off the coast of Port Ember

Aboard the CNMS Triumphant, the crew had started to breath a little easier and relax when they had entered the territorial waters of Northern Ocean a few days prior. For the past six months they had been at sea on a combat deployment assisting in operations spanning from convoy escort to naval fire support in a couple conflicts. As such when it was announced that the crew was homeward bound with a week of liberty in Port Ember, the sailors were quite ecstatic due to this lining up with the famed Navy Day celebrations.

Already now that they were in territorial waters, the crew had shorter shifts and more free time to contact family and friends back home along with resting and hanging out with friends aboard the vessel. As sailors on shift performed their duties and others relaxed, the ship wide P.A. system squawked to life.

"Sailors, this is Captain Parker speaking, we are fast approaching Port Ember. We will be approaching the coast within the hour. As your officers have probably told you, we will be pulling into Musk Borough and everyone currently off duty should be manning the rails in crisp "Liberty White" dress with arms presented. Once we dock, all who are scheduled for the first liberty shift are dismissed and those who are on duty shall stand guard at their normal posts. Since we are in a friendly port, leave ammunition unloaded from the small arms mounts but have it within reach if need be. Nothing should happen but best to be prepared than not. As for everyone, whether taking liberty now or later, enjoy yourselves in the gem of the Northern Ocean but don't over do yourself! Captain Parker signing off."

With his announcement finished, Captain Parker sat back on the bridge as he watched the bow of the Triumphant slice through the blue waters. It would be a lovely week in Port Ember and the festivities would be quite the sight to see. As he relaxed, sailors across the vessel scurried about getting ready to present arms when they arrived in Port Ember.

Below decks sailors who weren't on duty quickly and efficiently changed into their crisp "Liberty White" uniforms before grabbing their black TCR-18 rifles and checking and cleaning them. As they waited for the orders to man the rails, a couple musically inclined sailors started to sing a song in the belly of the ship and it wafted through the halls as others started to sing it throughout the ship...

"Well here we are, we're back again, safe upon the shore.
In Musk Borough we'd like to stay and go to sea no more!
We'll go into a public house and drink till we're content.
For the lassies they will love us till our money is all spent.
So pass the flowing bowl boys, there's whisky in the jar
and we'll drink to all the lassies at the Jolly Roving Tar..."

As Captain Parker headed towards his quarters in preparation, he heard the song and smiled. At that moment, one of his officers walked by and stopped,

"Sir, should I order the sailors to quit singing that treachery?"

"No, they've earned this and they're simply singing a song. Let them enjoy themselves."

With that, Captain Parker headed to his cabin to change into his dress uniform. A while later the Triumphant came into view of the Port Ember coast and started to slow down as it waited for instructions from the harbor master.

Grand Opening
University Central Manor (Outside)

Image

The time for the opening had arrived and Minister Jan Breytenbach did a final neatness check on his suit and cleared his throat before he stepped on to the podium. As he stood on the podium, behind the mic stand, he overlooked the amased crowd - and what a crowd it was! Thousands upon thousands of excited people stood in front of him, awaiting the opening of the day. A soft smile formed on his face whilst looking at the sheer size of the crowd - a clear indication of a sucessfull event.

Whilst standing on a platform which gave him the height advantage, he scanned the crowd - still looking for a specific face, to no avail. She was either obstructed from view by the thousands of other faces, or not in Port Ember. He sincerely wished for the prior.

The nearby military band suddenly blasted their trumpets at full volume, alerting the crowd to settle down for the speech. When the crowd fell silent, Jan started his speech - not reading from a prepared paper, but speaking from his heart:

"Good morning ladies and gentleman! I would like to humbly welcome all to this years Navy Day - both the strong and pride Port Emberians and foreign friends of our nation present today.

I know that the main reason for your presence today is to have a festive day, yet I would like to use this oppertunity to remind all why we celebrate this day. This day is about three things: Commemorate, Celebrate and Honor.

As we continue with today's proceedings and have a jolly time, I implore you all to remember and honor those bravest of brave men and women who have given their lives on the oceans whilst serving the interests of this great nation, whether they were merchants or naval soldiers. They are the reason we have a paradise to call our home today. We may never forget these brave heros!

Secondly we should celebrate! We should celebrate the lives of those before us, who worked so hard to build the nation we love today; we should celebrate the lives of those hard working ocean farers who toils hard today to continue building our futures; we should celebrate those brave naval soldiers who risks their lives on a daily basis to keep our nation safe; we should celebrate our friends from other nations who have taken our hands of friendship and helps us in making the world a better and safer place for all.

Lastly, we should honor the Port Emberian Navy and her allies - as they are everyday hero's. Men and women who abandons their loved ones for months on end, to travel the perils of the ocean, to serve their nation, selfishly risks their own lives day by day to ensure that the Republic and her people can remain safe and prosper.

Citizens and friends of the Republic - today is the day when the entire nations comes to a standstill to celebrate the brave men and women of the oceans, whether they are Port Emberian or allies alike.

With that ladies and gentleman....

TO YOUR HEALTH AND WEALTH!!!"

As the minister shouted the last mantra, the crowd erupted - repeating the mantra at full volume, with some folk even throwing their hats into the air in celebration!

Mere seconds after the speech was concluded, a squadron of 6 Hydra J179 Thunder Fighter Jets performed a fly-over, at low altitude above the university grounds - shaking the earth in their show of glory. Seconds after this display, 7 salute cannon shots were fired - symbolising the 70th time that this event was held. Moments after this chaotic display of beauty, the crowd was directed towards the shores of the University Port.

On the crystal blue ocean just outside of the University Port, a metal beast came sailing hard for port. This iron beast sailed through the other metal beasts who laid in anchor - awaiting their chance to enter port.

The metal beast in question was none other than the PES Darling, a Lilly Black Class Guided Missile Destroyer, which happened to be the most famous ship, crew and captain of the Republic currently.

This valiant ship and her valiant crew was the capital ship of the famed Naval Group XI - the very naval group we were ambushed in the port of Port Arthur by the forces of Ukraniumstan. This small naval group of only 15 ships fought valiantly - cripling an entire regional fleet, taking down a total of 27 ships, with an added bonus of ripping apart the coastal defences - all at the cost of 6 Missile Boats. This insanely brave fight managed to stop an entire future war in one battle - the enemies of Port Ember realising what the Republic was capable of, and sued for peace. This granted Port Ember numurous beneficial economical, political and military pacts, leaving the entire country richer and more influential on the world stage. Added to this glory was the fact that the Chuckian fleet in the area managed to intervene and assist in the closing moments of the battle, which helped strengthen their alliance. This wonder of a ship and her crew, alongside her captain, was heralded as living legends and became folk hero's overnight. Commander John Crusuo was promoted from Lt Commander to Commander and received the highest military award - The Medal of Honor.

This ship of hero's sailed past the other ships in the bay, with their crew standing on deck offering them the National Salute as they sailed past - specifically the RKS Rising Dawn; SDFS Maighdean; HH Patricia and the CNMS Triumphant who were in range. As the ship entered port, with a larger-than-neccesary Port Emberian flag flying high, a salute cannon shot was fired - heralding its arrival. The crowd went absolutely nuts, with some folk even breaking into dance! Their heros have arrived and it was time to celebrate!

As the PES Darling entered the port, the harbour master signalled the awaiting ships that they may now enter the port and dock - the crowd awaiting to cheer them all in a warm welcome.

Warszinski family
For the Warszinski family, which was Sir Nick Warszinski who was the ambassador to Port Ember from Greater Orcadia, Phenom Snyder, his daughter and Evan Snyder his son-in-law the morning of the navy day began like any other, Prime Minister Ian Gordon who was at the opening ceremony for the Embassy had long since gone back home to deal with politics back home leaving Nick to carry on the diplomatic work and for Penny and Evan to continue working for Gudfrey's Trading, however for them, life had been busy with engagements for Nick, work for Penny and Evan however with the Navy day celebrations it was a chance for them all to relax, well, almost.

Penny was up early for she had a few things to attend to, the amp, synth-ax and other items needed for the show were packed away in the hired van, a Ford Transit, and so Penny herself was the first to arrive out of the family, Nick and Evan would be attending later, once Tiswas was dropped off at the Embassy where he could be entertained by Wallace.

Evan had taken Penny's car which had been purchased in Port Ember a few weeks previous to the embassy where Nick was expecting him. There the arrival was informal and through the back doors rather than through the front doors of the embassy itself, a gate normally reserved for official cars to come and go, however Penny and Evan were family so were able to come and go as needed.

Seeing Evan get out of the car, Nick walked over and gently put both arms around him, not in any unusual way but the way that a father would hug his son for Evan is treated like a son, even called "son" sometimes by Nick when he wants to be somewhat informal, and today was an informal occasion.

"Eric, Im taking the car" called Nick,

"need the flags on it?" asked Eric, one of the staff who looks after the official car.

"nah, not today as its a national holiday and guess what, I want to have some time with my family, so its a low key affair" replied Nick who was wearing jeans and a blue fleece type jacket as it was still in the cool of the morning.

"okay" replied Eric, tossing the keys to a Jaguar XJ that sported diplomatic plates.

Nick lept into the front seat, normally the seat for his driver, and Evan jumped into the passenger seat and casually tossed his small rucksack onto the back seat and so it wasn't long before they were heading to the harbour.

"so what you been upto?"asked Nick, cruising past a police car, being careful not to break the speed limit, dipomatic immunity has its perks but Nick is one who believes that it is probably best not to take the piss with it so generally keeps to the speed limit, his eyes clock the police car however.

"Nick, its been busy, mainly refrigerated work but this and that. hopping up and down the islands, oh its a left turn here, head down there and run along the back road, its a quicker route" replied Evan, who like Penny had been picking up local knowledge about Port Ember's rat runs.

Stage area
Penny was also arriving at the stage area, showing her pass to whoever is on duty, "anyone able to help unload?" she asks

The Rising Dawn began to pull into the harbor, The sailors waving to the crowd, as a group of 50 in dress uniform ready to disembark. They were the top 50 sailors on the ship, those who preformed the best, and were the most ideal to represent Kafair. The top 30 of those, exclusively officers, would be in the drill. As the ship drops anchor, and ties itself to the dock, the men step off, at the head of the 50 stood 2 men, those same as before who stood on the deck. One very old, the other younger. As they walk, the sailors do not wave, and array themselves in formation. The older man barks a order in the native language of Kafair, and he men all salute the crowd. Than, the younger man, quieter, says another order, and the men fall out, heading into the crowd, in small groups. They are easily spotted, their flag green and sand colored dress uniforms clearly distinguishing them from the rest of the sailors and civilians. The 2 men talk, and begin to walk away.

CNMS Triumphant - University Harbor

As the PES Darling came into view and passed the CNMS Triumphant, the sailors manning the rails stood at attention in their crisp white dress uniforms with their slung across their chests as they gave a sharp salute to the heroes of the Port Arthur conflict. The Triumphant too had participated in the conflict albeit, in an indirect roll. As the invasion of Port Arthur had commenced, she was dispatched along with a couple of her sister ships to escort the convoy fleets to resupply the main warships. Along the way they had passed within visual range of the Darling as it had made its way south towards other Gold Club allies and out of the Yellow Sea. As such, the sailors on board the Triumphant felt a tighter bond with their brethren on the Darling.

Once the Darling had passed and the harbor master started issuing commands to the ships in the harbor, the soldiers remained manning the rails as the ship moved into dock. As the ship closed in on the docks, the battle ensign of the Triumphant flapped high above the ship on its mast and a slightly smaller ensign of Port Ember fluttered beneath it. Nearing the wharves, the sailors manning the rails in unison swung their rifles off their shoulders and racked the charging handles on the TCR-18s. An audible ca-chunk echoed across the water. Pointing their rifles away from the ship at a 45 degree angle, the sailors pulled the triggers in almost perfect unison with the 5"/54 Caliber Mod 78 primary cannon as it fired a blank. A thunderous crack echoed across the water followed by another ca-chunk as the sailors ejected the blank cartridges from their rifles. Again a thunderous clap echoed across the waters as the 5 inch blank in the cannon was amplified by over 100 rifles firing simultaneously. Once the gun salute was complete, the sailors re-shouldered their weapons and resumed standing at attention.

As the ship got closer to the wharves, a small fleet of tugboats and guidance ships came out to assist the warships in the docking procedures. The sailors manning the rails waited until the Triumphant was fully secured to the docks before they snapped out of their positions and filed back inside the ship. Although Port Ember was a paradise with little restrictions, the authorities had requested that those celebrating here today not be armed. With grudging discipline, the sailors headed to their quarters or the armories around the ship and stowed away their service rifles and personal arms. Once they were stowed away, those who were on the first shift of liberty took to the gangplanks and marched down from the ship and took roll with their commanding officers before splitting and scattering in small groups into the crowd.

In the belly of the beast, a group of 18 sailors were busy shining buttons, shoes, and weapons as they prepared for when they would partake in the naval forces parade. They worked hard to make metallic parts on their uniform shine while they talked and joked.

On board the Triumphant, Captain Parker made a quick phone call before stepping out of the hatchway and onto the deck of his ship before sauntering down the gangway towards the docks following his sailors who had gone before him.

Grand Opening
University Central Manor (Outside)

Welcoming Ceromony of Naval Forces
University Port

In front of the University Central Manor.
Alaina Trasnaigh of the Tribe of Clonmel.

We applauded when the speech was finished and pulled our heads in, when the fighter passed - the display was loud, but one could believe, that we were used to it, by now. SDF-Army Air Combat Command and SDF-Navy Naval Aviation Command performed flyovers and air shows whenever possible, especially during Spring Festivals, which Layla loved to watch and dragged me around for... but here we were, pulling our heads in and Layla squealing in delight.
"Those were J-1-7-9s!", she told me as soon as she could, although with the crowd cheering, I had to read her lips. "The direct competitor to our Stuamas on the market!"
I smiled and nodded and as the crowd began to move towards the docks, we moved along, although we moved a bit sideways as well, to not get under the crowd's heel... there, we made a shocking discovery: Gwen Cathlong, including her Mother and Fiona, stood a bit away from the edges of the crowd and let it all pass. Maybe her reasons for not jumping right in were more valid then ours...
She smiled in our direction and we went over, looking over the harbour as some destroyer arrived...
"PES Darling, Lilly Black-class Guided Missile Destroyer.", Gwen explained as the crowd went nuts, "The Heroine of Port Arthur, fought off an ambush and destroyed an amateurishly led fleet with minimal losses. She's seen as a valiant vessel around these parts, with some reason."
After her, other vessels came in, Gwenny dropping a few words about everyone of them, Rising Dawn, CNMS Triumphant and, last, but certainly not least, SDFS Maighdean.
While we had politely applauded for the other vessels, we cheered and whooped for her, and for our lads, the Maiden of the SDF-Navy cutting an impressive figure with her crew manning the rails, their black uniforms only moved by the wind. I saw seasoned officers and men and the Ensigns together, even thought, that I saw a few familiar heads, but at this distance, it was impossible to tell.
Then, her singular 135 mm L/50 gun let loose with a singular shot, a blank, showing peaceful intentions and respect to the people of Port Ember. Proudly, our own Bratach and Port Ember's Flag fluttered from the mast, a SDY-Greadtóir 19 Cuaifeach Shipborne Helicopter stood on the landing pad, her ship's horn blew once to announce, that they were here.
It was spectacular!
And what was even better, Gwen beamed with pride: This was one of her ships, she had worked on the design and development, saw her construction take shape from keel upwards, and one saw, how she loved seeing her in the water.
Nora squeezed her hand.

HH Patricia - Docking - Navy Day

Postby Iarann Grudaidh » Tue Sep 10, 2019 11:45 am

As the authorization came through to dock, HH Patricia's men and women stood at attention, rifles slung near their waist. They fell silent as 2 flags rose above the rest, the PE and IG flags slowly made their rise, the Navy would start to salute, signifying the relationship between PE and their allies to be strong.

The ship would warm up and start to move slowly in towards the dock. Honking it's horn every once in a while. As they started to arrive at the docks and the flags were finished rising. The men and women would turn to the sides in unison, saluting the other ships incoming, as well as the people of Port Ember.

As Avery saluted the other ships, his right-hand man would say "very lively, sir!"
He'd respond with "Very, looking forward to this"

As the ship pulled up to the dock, Avery would cry out "Attention!"

The men and women would reach for their guns and aim them away at the ship

"Fire!" Avery would yell. There'd be 10 shots, one for each person who died during their time on the ship.

"At ease!" Commander Avery would state loudly. His men slung their rifles, and the ones who were invited to attend the event were getting ready to dock and put away their rifles and sidearms. Everyone else standing guard or back at their stations.

The ship would pull into the dock with the help of guidance and tugboats, as the ship finished the docking sequence, it'd come to a complete stop. The men and women who were invited got off the dock and into small groups, disappearing into the crowd.

Eventually, Commander Avery got off the ship following his sailors and was off.

University Open Air Theatre
Penny Snyder

As Penny arrived at the University Open Air Theatre, she was indentified as a performer for later that day, and requested some assistance in unloading and setting up her equipment. A legion of technicians jumped at this task, as they were allready busy in preparing the stage with all manners of sound equipment. The unloading and setting up of Penny's equipment was done in a flash by the eager and hardworking technicians.

As the numurous warships entered the Port, Miniser Jan Breytenbach announced their arrival from a set up microphone.

The first ship which anchored at port was the PES Darling, a Lilly Black Destroyer. "Ladies & Gentleman - the PES Darling - the hero's of the Battle of Port Arthur.!"

The next ship whom entered port was the RKS Rising Dawn, a large modern cruiser. "Ladies & Gentleman - I present to you the RKS Rising Dawn, hailing from The Sun Blessed Sultanate of Kafair, captained by Admiral Relis al-Yerif."

Immediately following this, the CNMS Triumphant, a Saury Class Fast Interdiction Frigate docked in port. "Ladies and Gentleman, I present to you the CNMS Triumphant, hailing from The Armed Republic of The Chuck - and esteemed millitary allies of Port Ember - captained by Captain Stanley Parker."

Next docked the SDFS Maighdean, a Maighdean Class Missile Cruiser. "Ladies & Gentleman, I present to you the SDFS Maighdean, hailing from The Free Lands of The Selkie, captained by Captain Galen Trodaí of the Tribe of Westmeath."

Lastly the HH Patricia enetered the Port, a Destroyer. "Ladies & Gentleman, I present to you the HH Patricia, hailing from The Republic of Iarann Grudaidh and esteemed millitary allies of Port Ember - captained by Commander Avery Miles."

As each ship entered the port and docked, the crowds cheered passionately as they welcomed the naval friends and allies of Port Ember, staring in awe at the various masterpiece ships floating before them. As each crew came ashore, the Port Emberian Honor Gaurd presented arms - welcoming them ashore with a National Salute.

When all the ships were docked, the salute cannons fired off another round of blank cannon shot - to a total of 5 shots, symbolising each navy present on shore.

Minister Jan then announced to the crowd that they can still spend time in observing the anchored vessels whilst the naval crews on shore are welcome to introduce themselves to their counterparts, and that the next event will commence at 10:00AM sharp, at Alpha Hall.

HH Patricia - Navy Day - Just after Docking

Postby Iarann Grudaidh » Wed Sep 11, 2019 9:35 am

As the HH Patricia made its descent into it's designated area. The entrances and exits of the ship were blocked off by guards, only to be moved by the command of their superiors. Commander Avery would be smiling and waving towards the other Captains and Sailors.

Commander Avery would scan the area, looking mighty and proud, different from in the magazine articles, etc he's participated in. He'd walk around and communicate with other navy officials, as his men stuck together, chatting with each other and using this as a moment of peace.

SDFS Maighdean, University Docks.
Ensign Kayla Urchair of the Tribe of Sligo.

We docked to the sound of five salutes, our Captain being mentioned along with our ship's name. I knew, that he would wear a small, uncomfortable smile - he was not one for that kind of spotlight, but he would manage.
Kayla would make sure of that.
A very specific contingent of sailors was allowed ashore, the command staff with a few exceptions, the Ensigns (read: us) and a few dozen others, while the Troopers had their own job to prepare for.
As soon as the ceremony was over, Kay and I smiled at each other, then made our way over to the gangplank, leading the Ensigns' Caravan, while the remainder of the crew either went and fetched the last things or went back to their positions. The Maghdean would be open for interested visitors, at least partially, as a gesture of good will and, quite frankly, publicity. If one ever wanted to see the inside of a 135mm turret, that was the chance of a lifetime!
We took position at the side of the gangplank, opposite to us those of the actual crew, which were allowed ashore, the uniforms being the main contrast: We, in the black sailor suits of Ensigns of the Naval School with the white borders, they, in the black uniforms with the red highlights and high collars, all of us with heavy boots.
Captain Trodaí and Commander Bratoi appeared a few moments later, the former a tall, impressive figure with dark hair and melancholic eyes, who one would sooner believe to be a poet then the captain of a warship, the other a brown haired man with very long hair and green eyes. Both wore Service Dress, like us.
"Sailors.", the Captain greeted us, we snapping to attention. "Have fun, keep it cool and do us all proud, Sailors." We nodded, he smiled, then made the last few steps until he stood in front of Kay. "Ensign, if I may be so bold?"
Kay almost fainted as she linked arms with him, being led off the vessel by him. Commander Bratoi and I followed suit.
"Your friend really has a crush on him, eh?", the Commander asked me in a whisper.
I grinned. "You have no idea.", I replied in the same volume.
And here we were - if people were interested, this was the time!

In front of the University Central Manor.
Alaina Trasnaigh of the Tribe of Clonmel.

With the arrival of the vessels finished and the next event announced for 10 o'clock at the Alpha Hall, the people of SDY and their takealong from Gabha departed us, hugs being exhanged - the last preparations needed to be attended.
That left Layla and me to look around the Festival a bit.
Our preparations were easily done and already handled, that was the beauty of being people of Selkie-Rock: We had a guitar and a bass and the connections were checked to be fitting. We might need to make some fine adjustments, though, but if those failed, too, we still had the acoustic versions of our instruments as well.
A Selkie-Musician was never truly without the means to make music and if it was drumming on the belly.
That aside, this was a festival and while we could understand fellow musicians, who were a bit nervous, neither Layla and I were. That gave us time to see, what this was all about, aside from the official party line - either that or meeting fans, depending on what happened first.
Plus, we were hungry.

Penny Snyder - University stage area

With her equipment stowed and in the stage holding area, Penny began to set about checking the programming of her music into the computer to ensure that the drum beat and backing music is cued up ready, however as Penny is in somewhat a casual mood at the moment she is calmly sat on the crate that holds her amplifier, one cyber-foot on the floor, the other cyber foot on the knee of her cybernetic leg with her synthax, suspended off its strap around her neck and resting on her leg, and so that she doesn't disturb any performer, she has her music piped through a set of headphones so no one else can hear it, it also means the sound of the gun salutes are drowned out by the music!

Diplomatic car - Evan and Nick
By following Evan's rat run, they come out along the coast road where a lot of the ships are moored up, Nick brings the car to a stop and pulls into a viewing area, Evan and Nick get out of the car and Nick pulls out his phone from his pocket, flicks it on to selfie mode and puts his arm around Evan in a fatherly manner before taking a double selfie, uploading it onto his social media titled "family time"

"one for your album too" comments Nick, taking a second selfie before posting it on Penny and Evan's page, and for once, Nick's phone is staying decidedly quiet for this is his personal phone. his ministerial phone is at the Embassy and only a handful of people have his personal number, these being his wife Lorna who will be coming to Port Ember soon, Penny and Evan, Prime Minister Ian Gordon and a few other close friends,

With the selfies done, Nick and Evan hop back in the car and make their way to the gates, parking as close to the entrance as possible but oddly NOT the VIP area, for Nick is taking time off from official business! Once parked, Evan grabs his small hold all which has a camera inside it, a small pair of binoculars and a pair of shades then casually slings it over his shoulder as Nick locks the Embassy car then together the two of them make their way to the gate.

"two to enter" comments Nick, paying by card before turning to Evan, "drink?" he asks

"diet orange please Nick" he replies, leaving off Nick's honourific "sir", not out of any lack of respect, but Nick doesn't expect close friends family to use his official title.

HH Patricia

As the HH Patricia was docked, its impressive metal body shimmered in the early sunlight. Many curious and excited festival goers neared the floating beast, but did not attempt to get too close or to board it - treating the foreign vistors with the needed respect and dignity. They just wanted to get close enough to be able to see up close what a marvelous machine this was.

Whilst Commander Avery was standing on shore but near his ship, engaged in casual conversation with fellow officers, a Port Emberian naval officer approached the grouping and walked straight up to the Commander. The Port Emberian officer was clad in his neat black ceremonial uniform, with a decent amount of gold rope adorning him, contrasting neatly against his bright white naval cap. The man was of a large build, 1.84 meers tall, and not an ounce of body fat visible. The man was build from bone and muscle. Despite his strong physique, his greying hair gave away his age. When he was in range of Commander Avery, he extended his right hand in a greeting gesture, and spoke with a deep authorative voice, "Greetings Commander. Admiral Charles Vane - Chief Navy. Welcome to Port Ember!"

I grinned. "You have no idea.", I replied in the same volume.
And here we were - if people were interested, this was the time!

As the SDFS Maighdean docked and her crew started to come ashore, Minister Jan Breytenbach started to close distance towards it. He had to contend with the crowds of festival goers who were also closing in - many curious and excited festival goers neared the floating beast, but did not attempt to get too close or to board it - treating the foreign vistors with the needed respect and dignity. They just wanted to get close enough to be able to see up close what a marvelous machine this was. They have heard rumuours that small groupings might go aboard by invite, but awaited the official announcement before attempting to do so.

Jan Breytenbach then managed to close in and approached their leading party. He immediately recognised Captain Galen Trodaí of the Tribe of Westmeath and Commander Aidan Bratoi of the Tribe of Wexford from the military intelligence files he had studied beforehand. These men were accompanied by two female sailors - young and beautifull from what he could see - whom he did not recognize. He neared the group and approached Captain Trodaí with an outstretched arm, ready to shake and greet before he spoke, "You must be Commander Trodaí. Jan Breytenbach - Minister of Defence. Welcome to Port Ember!"

Jan had two main motives for coming forward to greet the Selkiens this soon - for one, the relatations between the Free Lands and Port Ember was currently very young, and he waned to ensure that this relations grew and was fostered into something of value for his beloved nation. They all had to do their part! Secondly, for more selfish reasons - he was still looking for the love of his life and the mother of his unborn child. He has been searching for her since the day commenced to no avail, and had a feeling that she might be near this ship - seeing that this was her nation's people - and she was part of the designing of this marvelous ship. He hoped his instincts would not fail him..

Jason Floyd was a tallish man at 1.82m, his soft wavy brown hair touching his shoulders. He was the frontman for the Port Emberian Folk Rockband 'Black Sails', busy taking a stroll around the camous area - walking solo, as the rest of his band was still setting up equipment at the stage. Whilst walking he notices two young and pretty lasses whom he immediately reconised, and did not hesitate to approach them. When he reached them, he greeted in a confident tone "Ye lassies must be the duo of Leannáin! Bloody good to meet ya - and welcome to PE!"

As the women known as Penny Snyder was seates om a crate, she received a few curious but polite stares, as she was practically a half robot, she was bound to receive some curious looks! Yet as she was clearly deep in thought and activity, no one approached her, leaving her in peace and to her work.

As Nick and Evan entered the gates to the festival, amd bought a round of soft drinks - there were eyes on them. 'Invisible eyes' to be specific. No one knew they were there, but they were - the finest warriors from Task Force 79 (Special Forces) were keeping an eye on all their distinguished guests and VIP's, the Greater Orcadian ambassador being one of them. Althougj he was present not for official business, he was still present, and if anything would happen to him, it would cause a international incident, thus the bravest and most competent counter terrorist units were present, working from the shadows to keep everyone safe.

There were no risk of trouble for the day, yet the Port Emberian Security Forces never let anything to chance

As the Admiral and Captain stand, talking before the Rising Dawn, groups of sailors abroad begin to prepare the ship, to allow people on in small number for tours. On the ships's hull, facing towards the crowd, 4 flags are let hang. The flag of Kafair, the Kafairian naval Flag, the large Port Emberian flag, and a small flag of the Confederation of Corrupt Dictators. The gangplank is readied, as a group of sailors in ceremonial uniform guard it, and the Admiral and Captain, for now blocking entry to the ship. The guard do not hold fire arms, as per the request of the authorities at Port Ember, but do carry their ceremonial sabers, if the need asides to defend their officers.

He even bit back the correction of his title to Captain, a term, which had a huge meaning in our culture... if he realized it at all. It didn't look like it, though. "In the name of the Elder Council and the Fifteen Tribes, I am to express their sincerest greetings and best regards."
He let a beat pass.
"If I may introduce you to a part of the future of the SDF-Navy?", he added, halfway turning to me, "Ensign Kayla Urchair of the Tribe of Sligo, Naval School."
I saluted in a manner similar to the Captain. "It is an honour, Minister."

Commander Avery would smile and shake his hand. "Thank you Admiral, Port Ember is truly a magnificent place. Glad we could be here among your best men and women" his voice was warm yet authoritative, a blend of the two that is just right. "We've brought our best destroyer out to play for you." The Commander would humour in his Grudaidhian accent while keeping direct eye contact to the very well-built man in front of him. "Your people seem to be loving her." He'd smile, seemingly in a good mood.

"And before I forget, the Supreme Leader gives you her finest thank yous for allowing us to take part."

University Docks - CNMS Triumphant

Captain Parker walked down the gangplank to the wharf and spied Captain Crusuo, the Port Emberian military head of the Port Arthur conflict, walking towards him. With a wry smile he walked towards Captain Crusuo and extended his hand. Although he hadn't every personally met the Captain, he was a well known figure throughout the Northern Ocean due to his extensive involvement in foreign militaristic affairs near and far.

While Captain Parker went through the normal pleasantries, small squads of sailors dressed in crisp white uniforms milled about. Some groups were already speed walking down the wharf towards the festivities while a couple milled around with cellphones and made calls to loved ones back home. As they stood about, a small group of sailors on the CNMS Triumphiant walked out and onto the deck while they carried crowd control ropes and started laying out a path throughout the ship for tours. Two ensigns took up positions on the wharf on either side of the gangplank and waited for the signal that the others were ready to admit tour groups on board the ship.

Down in the depths of the ship, the Machinist's Mate Nuclear (MMN) were busy checking over the F5GBHI reactor and making sure it was in fully operational condition. Since the ship was in port, the reactor was still active however the control rods were in position to reduce the nuclear fission process so that it didn't overproduce power. Outside the primary reactor room stood two heavily armed sailors with a couple other armed sailors. Although the majority of the ship would be open for tours, the reactor room was strictly off limits.

Lt Commander Amy Lee was a youthfull naval officer serving in the post of a Military Attaché based at the Naval Headquarters within the Megalopolis. She was wearing her neat black ceremonial uniform with her white cap adorning her head, her long blonde hair tied in a single long ponytail, her blue eyes glittering in the morning sun. She kept a close eye on the RKS Rising Dawn as she entered port and docked. Her orders were simple - build a professional relationship with this vessel and her crew. Port Ember held no formal relations with the nation of Kafair, thus this was a good time and place to start.

She walked towards the ship as her crew started to settle into informal conversation on the pier, and walked up to the duo of senior officers present, whom she recognised as Admiral Relis al-Yerif and Captain Helo al-Zefar respectively from the military files she had studied. When she was in range, she performed a military drill halt, snapping her ankles together, followed with a sharp salute. Once her arm was against her side again she spoke, "Admiral. Captain. Lt Commander Lee - Military Attaché. In the name of The Republic - I wish you a warm and hearty welcome to the island!"

Jan witnessed the Captain (he still thought its Commander as he was not yet corrected), offer his salute, which Jan found to be a strange gesture - tapping his chest twice with his fist, followed by a soft head bow. He was used to the bow - being quite familiour with the basics of Selkie customs, but not this unique salute. He resisted the urge to salute back - although it was natural for him, being the former Chief Security Forces. Unfortunately custom dictated that now as a politician, he does not salute. He did return the soft bow gesture as his way of showing mutual respect and understanding of Selkie Custom.

He was then introduced to a lass named Ensign Kayla Urchair of the Tribe of Sligo, who offered the same strange salute. Jan smiled and offered a soft bow in return. He also reached for her hand, which she then continued to accept the outstretched hand, but instead of a shake, Jan planted a soft kiss on the back of her hand before letting go. "It is an honor to make your aquintance Ensign Urchair. It is a pleasure to see young ladies being molded into the naval future. The old days of the ocean being a man club was horribly dull!"

Jan turned back to the captain as he now responded to his greetings, "The honor is ours Commander - it is high time that our two navy's meet - it is long overdue! And please convey the same warm greetings and regards to the Elder Council and the Fifteen Tribes - as I wish for blessings to their health and wealth." Jan looked at the gathered crowd behind him, before turning back to the Captain, "It seems the free folk of Port Ember is aching from desire to see your vessel up close and personal!"

Elder Council and the Fifteen Tribes, I am to express their sincerest greetings and best regards."

Jason smiled as the girls recognised him, which he was not expecting. They requested him joining them in their impending exploration, to which he replied, "How can I possibly deny such a exciting request from such renowned beauty and talent?" He then placed himself in the middle of the duo, opening his arms away from his side, gesturing the request for them both to hook in arms with him. "Where am I escorting the lassies to first?"

He was excited to spend time with the girls, not only due to their beauty and fame, but as they were fellow musicians, and he believed that musicians should foser relations, in the interest in advancing the art of music. Besides, tonight's show was no competition, it was a combined effort in entertaining and celebrating the proud history of Port Ember.

Commander Crusuo was met and greeted by Captain Parker, Captain of the CNMS Triumphant, with whom he shook hands. Crusuo had a strong liking in the Chuckeans and their navy. They were Port Ember's closest ally and were competent sailors in their own right. And offcourse, their help in the Battle of Port Arthur most probaly saved his life.

"Captain! The pleasure is mine. It is a good feeling to meet a man who was apart of saving my skin during that bloody Port Arthur nonsense. Glory to all who was involved! Anyway, its an honor to welcome you to our shores Captain."

Behind the two officers in conversation, the amassed crowd was excited at the possibility of going on a tour inside the marvelous beast which was the CNMS Triumphant.

The two sword wearing officers by the gangplank step aside, allowing a group of 15 people onto the Dawn, and than stepping back into position. On the deck, 2 sailors take the group through the ship, as 2 men walk behind the ground, ensuring there is no tampering done by the people. The engine room and Bridge are not shown, though crew quarters are. They are taken into the hold, around the ship, shown the weapons, and than taken back off, after about 30min. Before the next tour, a group of sailors sweep the ship, ensuring it is clear of explosives or jammers, and than it repeats, 15 let on, and shown around.

As the women known as Penny Snyder was seates om a crate, she received a few curious but polite stares, as she was practically a half robot, she was bound to receive some curious looks! Yet as she was clearly deep in thought and activity, no one approached her, leaving her in peace and to her work.

Penny Snyder - University Theatre
Happy that her equipment was performing as it should, Penny placed her Synth-axe beside her crate that she was sitting on and hopped down to go and check her slot, for there was no point being across the other side of the arena when she is due on stage, and in order to save a bit of power, Penny reaches onto her bio-mechanical prosthetic limb and presses a button on the wrist with her thumb causing the arm to go limp and beep twice. For the next few hours her arm is on standby, using no power from its batteries at all and so preserving the power pack for the show later on.

Arriving at the control tent, Penny looks at an official
"Excuse me, Y'all got the running order fo' stage please?" she asks with a somewhat Highland tone to her voice,

Evan and Nick - wandering the show
Nick with son in law Evan paid some attention however Evan's eyes were everywhere as he looked for potential trouble, not that there is any just he is a little nervous after the events that caused the loss of his wife's arm and legs, and nearly her life so you can say he's probably a little paranoid, or perhaps just suffering a mild undiagnosed PTSD, or he is quite simply not keen of big crowds. Nick pulls up the program on his phone.
"Evan, this way bud, I think we're in time for the opening ceremony" says Nick, gesturing down a pathway with one hand before taking a sip of the soft drink just like everyone else here.

meanwhile in the embassy, Wallace and Tiswas are doing what they do best, chasing eachother around the hall ways!
Greater Orcadia is played by the same person behind the Aurora Confederacy and is a Modern Tech nation

CNMS Triumphant - Captain Parker

"Captain! The pleasure is mine. It is a good feeling to meet a man who was apart of saving my skin during that bloody Port Arthur nonsense. Glory to all who was involved! Anyway, its an honor to welcome you to our shores Captain."

"The pleasure is mine Commander Crusuo, Captain Stanley Parker at your service. Twas a grand conflict that we had over Port Arthur. To bad the fucking Kyavani bastards had to level the island before we could secure it. At least it's being rebuilt into a glorious overseas paradise like Port Ember! I hope to eventually get back there when I have time. Anyways, it looks like the old girl has gathered quite a crowd... pardon me while I address the crowds!"

Turning towards the crowds, Captain Parker amplified his voice,

"Welcome citizens of Port Ember! You are all welcome on board the CNMS Triumphant to tour our magnificent ship! Sailors are on post to assist and guide you on tours throughout the ship. I simply ask that tour groups be limited to 25 people per group and each group should have a 10 minute space between boarding. It is standard practice for all sailors onboard our ships to be armed so do not be surprised by the weapons and don't feel intimidated. You are welcome to tour the majority of the ship, the only area off limits is the reactor room. However two of our technicians have a mock up display and can explain the beauty and benefits of being powered by the atom if you are curious."

Turning back towards Commander Crusuo, Captain Parker continued to speak with him as sailors started to take tour groups on-board.
