Saint Émelie Roster For World Cup 82

Following respectable showings at AOCAFs LVI and LVII as well as World Cup 81, Saint Émelie are back to try and improve on their first cycle in international football and forget about their second where they were absolutely woeful.
Les Insulaires narrowly missed out on making the knockout stages of their first AOCAF. Despite a win against South Toronto and a heroic 4-3 win against Vilita & Turori in their first ever international, a 2-0 loss to this year's hosts Mriin condemned them to third in the group on head to head record. They fared much better in the one after however, making the quarter finals and beating Farfadillis 4-1 in the process. The squad are also boosted by the surprise decision of Mattijanan top-scorer Mathilde Lekarisa to switch allegiances to the island just in time for this cycle.
Amélie Martín returns to manage the team whilst Florian Bastereud, the match winner in that epic first international, regains his captaincy.

Team Information:

Style Mod: +2
Nickname: Les Insulaires
Team Colours: Blue and white
Captain: Florian Bastereud
Formation: 4-4-2 (diamond)

The Team:

Head Coach: Amélie Martín

46 year old Amélie Martín was the lady tasked with managing the team for their world cup debut and still has a tough job on her hands. She now has the experience of an AOCAF, Baptism of Fire and World Cup qualifying cycle to call upon, but the squad is still lacking in game time compared to most of the region and the Ligue D'Ile is no suitable preparation for a tournament alongside some of the world's best.
Martín played for around 15 years in that league before making the switch to management. The Saint Émelie FA believes that she is therefore the person with the most thorough understanding of football on the island and is as good a person as any to continue the island's progression.

Assistant Coach: Jacques Barre

Alongside Martín will be the experienced head of Jacques Barre. The 58 year old also once played in the Ligue d'Ile, but finished early due to injury and 'not being able to run like he used to.' Since then, he has managed 3 of the island's teams, getting to know many of Saint Émelie's best players in the process.
Despite his increased experience relative to Martín, Barre lacks the dynamic approach to management preferred by the island's footballing authorities. His tactical mind will however provide a calm word in Martín's ear when needed.

Team Doctor and Physio: Antonin Gardinier

Gardinier has little to no experience with sports injuries or fitness management, but as the island's best general doctor, was picked to make the trip to the Equestrian States as he would 'have to do.' He has a fairly hands on approach to medicine and players will probably be hoping they remain injury-free throughout the tournament due to fear of a good prodding and Gardinier's tendency to opt for surgery when possible rather than when necessary.

Goalkeepers:

#1-Hubért Joubert-age 33-Stade Barbotteau
#12-Caroline Chapelle-age 25-CA Le Goutiér
#23-Robin Patenaude-age 28-Racing Montmirail

The experienced Joubert will be Saint Émelie's number one throughout the cycle. The 33 year old has established a reputation as the best all-round goalkeeper on the island and has particularly impressive distribution with his range of kicks and throws. He is also solid with crosses, but his shot-stopping skills will recieve more of an examination against international opposition compared to at home.
Caroline Chapelle is very much the understudy in the team. The 25 year old is an excellent shot stopper, but is less experieced and ultimately deficient in the areas where Joubert is strong. This may keep her out of the starting lineup for now, but she is here to learn and will almost certainly take over the starting role one day.
Robin Patenaude is decent by island standards, but is really only in the squad as injury cover and to have a nice time. If Saint Émelie actually end up playing him, they will be desparate and will probably lose.

Wide Defenders:

#2-RB-Charléne Forestier-age 24-CA Le Goutier
#5-LB-Max Lestiénne-age 29-CF Savenay
#13-RB-Paul Gasquet-age 26-Stade Barbotteau
#16-LB-Chloé Travert-age 22-Stade de Saint Marie

Saint Émelie's selection of full-backs is also a mixed bag. Max Lestiénne is the only player over 26 of the four players chosen, but the additional domestic experience will probably count for nothing in the international arena.
Saint Émelie's teams generally try to play with quick full-backs, using them to push up the pitch and provide an additional option for attacking players. This usually requires high fitness levels and will be even more testing for the players against better-quality opposition.
This is provided by a youthful lineup that includes up-and-coming Le Goutier player Charléne Forestier as well as 22 year old Chloé Travert, who despite her young age has already become one of the talents in the Saint Émelie league to watch in the coming months and years.
Rather like Robin Patenaude, Paul Gasquet is very much just along for the ride, but will provide reasonably coherent cover if needed.

Central Defenders:

#3-Daniel Bouchard-age 33-CF Duport
#4-Mignon Laureille-age 30-Stade Barbotteau
#14-Emeli Pied-age 28-CF Soufriére
#15-Claude Leclerc-age 25-CA Le Goutier

Saint Émeli's central defenders are the polar opposites to their wide counterparts. Big, powerful and not afraid to put in a strong tackle, they are certainly up to the physical challenge posed by any opposition, even internationally.
Daniel Bouchard and Mignon Laureille, who is anything but sweet, are the epitomy of this and despite their lack of pace, sitting deep and heading stuff out of the danger zone has become a common practice.
Their slowness will almost certainly be exposed by stronger opposition, but their prescence may frustrate, for a little while at least.

Midfielders:

CDM-#6-Florian Bastereud-age 33-CF Dupont
RM-#7-Florence Caseille-age 25-CF Savenay
CAM-#8-Simon Pelletier-age 31-CF Soufriére
LM-#9-Mathilde Laurent-age 27-CF Riviera
CM-#17-Laurent Michaud-age 26-Stade de Saint Marie
RW-#18-Emeli Fontaine-age 29-Stade Barbotteau
LW-#19-Tomas Cousineau-age 21-Racing Montmirail
CAM-#20-Jadine Dupont-age 27-CF Le Goutier

The midfield diamond is probably the most experienced of the Saint Émelie setup, although everything is of course relative. Florian Bastereud is the key component, with the 33 year old both the team's captain and midfield enforcer. The wings are also important however. Play in Saint Émelie requires fast movement of the ball to negate some fairly rustic pitches and will often be fed out to the wide players. Florence Caseille is a massive talent on the right whilst Mathilde Laurent is now an established name on the island and can deliver a fantastic set piece.

Simon Pelletier is often the intermediate between defense and attack, but has a keen eye for a through ball, both over the top and through the middle of a defense. He is probably the team's best chance of scoring from distance as well. The 31 year old has scored many times in the Ligue d'Île from outside of the penalty area and will look to notch a few more in the coming international season.

Forwards:

#10-Mathilde Lekarisa-age 29-Rapid Petrovijanka (in Mattijana)
#11-Dominic Trion-age 26-Stade Barbotteau
#21-Marizanne Proliné-age 24-CF Riviera
#22-Sara Katjanović-age 29-FK SavaFluss (in Mattijana)

Sara Katjanović has very much been the star player in this Saint Émelie side for the duration of its existence and is also the only player operating outside of Saint Émelie. The third-choice Savafluss striker has a Mattijanan father and a mother from the island and fortunately, can handle both the Mattijanan and French languages.

As a player, she is a real poacher. Diminutive in stature, the 29 year old knows how to find the back of the net and knows where to position herself to do it, complementing the pace and crossing style from the wingers.

Mathilde Lekarisa, having switched allegiances from her country of residence to her country of birth in time for this world cup cycle, joins Katjanović up top and brings a very similar, but sharper skill set. She is an exceptional goal scorer, having gained the honour of being Mattijana's all time top scorer, and also brings a little more aerial threat than Katjanovic.

Tactical Notes:

Saint Émelie's isolation means that the style of football has deviated rather a lot compared to the rest of the world. It is in fact rather agricultural, with a lot of physical challenges and strong aerial play.
This means that the team will inevitably pick up cards. No malice is meant, but the physicality of the team will mean that injuries may occur.

Otherwise, Saint Émelie's style of football is actually fairly easy on the eye. Quick passing from front to back as well as movement on the wings is the game-plan and when it pays off, it looks great.
When it doesn't, it looks like an incoherent mess and if fans wish to be realistic, this is probably what they will get for the most part against some high-class defences.

XANAir National Stadium is the home of Xannerian Football, The Largest stadium in Xanneria it has hosted the National team for 40+ years along with perennial championship contenders Capital FC. A concrete bohemoth, it is likely coming into its twilight years as several new Stadiums are ushering in a new age of Stadiums in Xanneria. These new stadiums have been putting pressure on FAX to build a new Stadium for both the National team and Capital FC

NOTE TO THOSE RPING A GAME VERUS XANERRIA

Xannerian Football is played differently than most countries. For one it is hyper offensive with most teams using either 4 or 5 forwards who run directly at the goal with balls being passed only when necessary. Defense is even more alarmingly different as Xanneria RARELY calls penelties on diving (unless injuries occur) and its actually common for players to attempt to bump other players out of the way, granted this is also heavily moderated (Shoving a player with your hands is a penalty and shoving a player perpendicular to you is also a penalty). International players are trying to surpress excessive brutality, but sometimes in the heat of the game they forget. So feel free to have some of my players get Yellow carded for aggressive play.

Coaching Staff

Manager: Gavin Hughes (APX)

The reign of Gavin Hughes continues, the Apoxian manager having overseen two of the greatest tournament performances in the history of the national team at AOCAF 57 and 58, reaching the Quarterfinals in each memorable campaign. World Cup 83 saw a new high for the team as well, as they finished second in their qualifying group and reached the Playoff stage. It was heartbreak there, however, as losses to Recucn and Abahnfleft killed the Goldhorns’ World Cup dreams. Now, it’s time to try our hand at the Cup of Harmony, a tournament the Goldhorns have historically underperformed in: in 3 previous tries, they’ve never advanced past the group stage. With the strong play on display in the Qualifiers, and young blood coming into the squad, there is certainly an expectation around the team that this time should be different.

23-man Squad for Cup of Harmony 75

Goalkeepers

GK -- Yanko Zhelyaskov -- #1 -- 25y/o -- Ulsa Rovers (EUR) -- 25 caps, 4 clean sheets
GK -- Viktor Venev -- #22 -- 36y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 53 caps, 14 clean sheets
GK -- Anatoli Sveteikov -- #23 -- 28y/o -- Olympia Borograd -- 5 caps, 1 clean sheet

Goalkeeping was arguably the biggest weakness for the Goldhorns in Qualifiers: Yanko Zhelyaskov didn't have the best campaign of his life, and his poor form continued into the Playoffs, where the Goldhorns conceded 8 goals in 3 games. Viktor Venev is the backup option, but is in potentially his final tournament with the national team as younger blood continues to develop. Anatoli Sveteikov didn't get as many chances as he'd hoped in Qualifiers, but with the #1 spot seemingly up for grabs, perhaps this is his time.

Right Back

RB -- Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere -- #2 -- 19y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 7 caps, 2 assists
RB -- Lutz Daschner -- #12 -- 34y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 76 caps, 3 assists

A late call-up to the extended squad for Qualifiers, Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere quickly made a name for himself on the right side. A solid defender, he's capable of bombing down the wing as well and has a strong eye for a cross. He's a very similar player to Lutz Daschner, who has taken the young Lotbiniere under his wing at both the club and national levels. While Daschner has lost some of the pace that made him so effective with age, he's redesigned himself as a strong defensive fullback and is a great leader within the squad.

Centre Back

CB -- Raphael Klopfer -- #4 -- 30y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 91 caps, 4 goals, 4 assists
CB -- Karl-Heinz Jager -- #5 -- 21y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 35 caps, 4 goals, 4 assists
CB -- Kasper Martz -- #14 -- 21y/o -- TSV Marzig -- 4 caps
CB -- Josh Meckler -- #15 -- 26y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 4 caps

The Klopfer-Jager duo has been a strong one for the Goldhorns throughout their careers alongside each other in the Goldhorns' backline, and the national team's captain Klopfer has been arguably the most consistent player in the history of the national team. Jager is young but extremely talented and well-rounded, and is expected to be ever-present in the squad throughout his career. Kasper Martz and Josh Meckler both looked solid on appearances in Qualifiers, and either would serve as a strong backup. Goldhorn centre backs are usually strong ball players, and this foursome are no different.

Left Back

LB -- Edgar Steimle -- #3 -- 20y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 9 caps, 1 assist
LB -- Lyubomir Dimitrov -- #13 -- 28y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 42 caps, 1 assist

Edgar Steimle was one part of the youth revolution within the squad during the WC83 Qualification campaign, the 20 year old left back really taking over that spot for himself. Similar to 1912 teammate Lotbiniere, he's a forward-thinking player that is quite quick on the ball. Behind him is Lyubomir Dimitrov, a permanently solid option who offers reliability off the bench.

Centre Midfield

CM -- Thorsten Kramer -- #6 -- 25y/o -- 1830 Cathair (AUD) -- 93 caps, 18 goals, 41 assists
CM -- Vladimir Kostov -- #8 -- 35y/o -- Olympia Borograd -- 60 caps, 2 goals, 4 assists
CM -- Viktor Dimitrov -- #10 -- 30y/o -- Energija Chernovets -- 82 caps, 6 goals, 49 assists
CM -- Kurt Witzel -- #20 -- 22y/o -- TSV Marzig -- 12 caps, 3 goals, 3 assists
CM -- Todor Mihailov -- #16 -- 19y/o -- Yeaddin Owls (TUR) -- 4 caps, 2 assists

Thorsten Kramer built on his strong national team career during the Qualification campaign, and he's been a hero for the Goldhorns many times across his 93 caps. The technical midfielder has a certain air about him that isn't really matched by anyone else in the team, and when he gets the ball it instantly feels as if something will happen for the Goldhorns. Vladimir Kostov is back, a strong physical option in the midfield. At 35, however, the Goldhorns need to find a replacement for the x-factor he brings. Viktor Dimitrov is the main playmaker in this team, an ever-reliable creative force. Kurt Witzel brings a bit of that Dimitrov air to his game, and is developing well in his career for both club and country. Then there's Todor Mihailov, a man with a very bright future indeed. He immediately showed his class on his senior international debut, taking control of the game. He can dictate the tempo of a game, and is also a very technically skilled player. There's a fiery side to him as well, and he isn't afraid to stand up for himself or his teammates.

Right Wing

RW -- Ivo Romanov -- #11 -- 30y/o -- Rozelle (BRE) -- 88 caps, 32 goals, 20 assists
RW -- Lukas Tauscher -- #21 -- 21y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 6 caps, 1 assist

Ivo Romanov has had the #11 shirt on lockdown pretty much his entire international career, and there's good reason for that: he's second all-time in goalscoring for the national team. At the club level, he's also had great success, first at home with Olympia Borograd and now staring for Brenecia's Rozelle. Romanov has an eye for goal, and is always a dynamic option on the right side. Lukas Tauscher will be a worthy heir to Romanov's throne, he had a brilliant debut season for Teussen in the league and has looked very proper indeed on 6 caps.

Left Wing

LW -- Mario Kogler -- #7 -- 25y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 12 caps, 2 goals, 1 assist
LW -- Ingolf Kruger -- #17 -- 25y/o -- Marlesee 97 -- 14 caps, 1 goal, 1 assist

Left wing is perhaps the spot in the national team that has seen the most turnover throughout its history, but for now it is Mario Kogler's to claim. He's done well for club and country, looking strong in his 12 international appearances and quickly becoming part of Gavin Hughes' first team. Behind him is Ingolf Kruger, who has always been looking for a chance to break into the first XI for the duration of his international career. Perhaps this tournament will be the time he gets it.

Centre Forward

CF -- Michael Ribbeck -- #9 -- 24y/o -- SW Stahlberg -- 49 caps, 37 goals
CF -- Krasimir Kynev -- #18 -- 27y/o -- Olympia Borograd -- 54 caps, 27 goals
CF -- Ludwig Reichwein -- #19 -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 16 caps, 6 goals

The duo at the top stays as the main pair of Ribbeck and Kynev. Two exceptional forwards who have had great careers for both club and country, they've formed a strong chemistry. Kynev, with 27 international goals as well as a Republikaliga title and Golden Boot, manages to get himself involved even if he isn't on the scoresheet. Michael Ribbeck, named this year to the long list of Galacticos in world football, has a penchant for big games and big moments and is the Goldhorns' all time leading goalscorer with 37 goals, all of this achieved at the age of 24. Off the bench is Ludwig Reichwein, who has been strong when called upon but has found it hard to break into the first XI. A great season with FC Teussen Stelburg, however, could help him change that.

Set Pieces
Free Kicks: Thorsten Kramer, Viktor Dimitrov, Ivo Romanov
Penalties: Krasimir Kynev, Michael Ribbeck, Ivo Romanov, Thorsten Kramer, Viktor Dimitrov

Captains
Raphael Klopfer is the captain, with Lutz Daschner and Thorsten Kramer as vice captains.

Kits

Siovanija and Teusland will continue to use their current kits for Cup of Harmony 75, although new kits are reportedly in the works from Starblaydi design company ediraf. The crest, circular, features an edelweiss in the middle with blue and gold colour around it. The home kit is coloured mainly gold, with blue highlights. In addition, a blue stripe is in the middle of the kit, with the crest inside. Gold shorts and blue socks round out the home design. The away kit is coloured mainly blue, with gold highlights and a gold stripe. Blue shorts and gold socks complete the design. The blue and gold here come from the flag of the country. The goalkeeper kit, not pictured, is fully green. Green was both the colour of the House of Stajovic, Siovanija’s old imperial family, and the colour of the uniforms of many Knights from Teusland during several historical conflicts.

Sajnuran National Football Team

The Sajnuran national team has once again fallen short of the World Cup, but as reward for the team's good performances, the Sajnuran national team has been invited to the 75th Cup of Harmony for what will bethe country's second appearance at the tournament. This time, the tournament will be hosted by the countries of Damukuni and Eastfield Lodge. The two nations are ranked 39th and 56th in the world respectively, and neither team will be appearing at World Cup 83 in Banija and the Equestrian States. Eastfield Lodge will be familiar to many Sajnuran fans as the country played host to Baptism of Fire 69, although the national team played its group stage matches in Ethane and did not make it to the knockout rounds. The national team will also be introducing brand new kits at the tournament, thanks to the same shirt designers who created the Brusseldorf national team kits.

TEAM HISTORY
This is the official roster, featuring the Elite Eleven, an independent squad of Drawkians who have played all sports at a professional level for a confusingly long time. The old Kick Corps has been essentially removed, the players let go, and replaced by this squad of ridiculously skilled, annoyingly arrogant, and possibly immortal sportsmen. Nobody knows where they came from, or why DISC decided to replace the Kick Corps with them, but here they are. Just don't ask the baseball fans about them.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the Eleven are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Despite the fact that usually soccer is a female-only sport in Drawkland, the Elite Eleven have overturned that caveat as the higher-ups deemed them a suitable replacement in the interim as the real Kick Corps hides away for a few cycles and gets their shit back together.

Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes
Yellow Card my Players: Yes

As far as these go, I'm fair game for anything. You should know what is and isn't drastic RP, and if you think your RP is on the drastic side, TG me first. But I'm still basically up for anything.
I'd like to request that injuries or cards don't do anything outside of the scope of a single game or maybe 2. Don't want anything tournament or cycle-ending. Red cards should be limited to late knockout stages, and I'd probably think that there should be no more than 2 players red carded per tournament.
The Elite Eleven are sorta oddballs. I mean, they're a group of 11 dudebros, but they're supposedly immortal or something. Keep that in mind.

Disclaimers of various sorts:
I don't know very much about soccer. If I RP something weird, it's because I have little to no experience with this sport. But whatever.
If you have any questions about anything involving me, this team, my nation, this competition, life, etc., feel free to telegram me.

RP permissions: Your RP permissions are mine, short of death and career-ending injuries. If I can send off your players, you can send off mine. If your players can’t be booked, neither can mine. If I can smother the pitch in a bath of chocolate syrup at the half, so can you. Just make it funny/entertaining, if you don’t mind. ;)

If I haven’t posted a starting eleven for a particular game, please assume that the standard eleven are being used. You can feel free to make substitutions, so long as they are position for position as explained on the roster list.

A federation in the far north, Omerica is a cosmopolitan maritime nation, famed for its environmental beauty, thriving black markets and love of a good drink. Omerica is a federal parliamentary republic with a semi-direct democratic system of governance. An influential country in international affairs, the nation ranks as one of the most politically and socially free states in the multiverse. The nation is noted for having some of the most friendly, compassionate and brash people in the multiverse, who enjoy high rates of economic, scientific and cultural development. The nation is rated as one of the least corrupt and least authoritarian in the world, with low rates of ignorance, obesity, political apathy and preventable death.

About the Incorrigibles
Association code: OME
Team nickname: “The Incorrigibles
KPB ranking: 48th (15.36)

Just like the history of the nation, the history of Omerican football has been rocky. The nation was one of fifty-six to début in Baptism of Fire 56, where the team made the knockout stage with an undefeated record before bowing out to Lons after extra time in the last 32. The Griffons subsequently floundered for several cycles, finishing below expectations in tournament after tournament and struggling to find their footing. But fortunes turned around during the Campionato Esportiva in the Sarian, where Omerica unexpectedly won their group and made the quarterfinals after defeating Yttribia. Despite falling to runners-up Nephara in a close match, the tournament marked a significant turn in fortunes: a bitter (and, to Osarians, infamous) third-place finish in the World Cup 73 qualifiers, two consecutive knockout stage qualifications and Round of 16 exits and—the nation’s crowning moment of glory—an upset qualification for World Cup 74, where the team scalped Flardania and nearly advanced to the knockout phase.

However, success proved short-lived. After boycotting CE XVI in Falatulu, the Omerican Football Federation found itself mired in a corruption and betting scandal. Combined with a riotous fanbase which had caused numerous bouts of destruction, the scandal dogged the team’s World Cup 75 qualifying campaign and ultimately brought the OFF to an untimely end, ordered dissolved by the Sessions Court of the Metropolitan Arrondissement and liquidated to cover the fines issued to its executives. In the aftermath of the scandal, the republican football associations, which had predated and existed parallel to the OFF, formed the United Republican Soccer Federation to take over the OFF’s functions and opted to indefinitely pull Omerica from international competition. Half a decade later, a new national team emerged to contest the Independents Cup and, after much internal debate, the World Cup with little success.
Staff
Manager: Anne-Sophie Groothuis
Officially the first manager to lead Omerica to a major international title after defeating Drawkland at the seventh Independents Cup, Groothuis has just one accomplishment left to notch before indisputably cementing her place as Omerica’s greatest ever manager: qualifying for the World Cup finals. Prior to her time with the national team, Groothuis led Club du 28 Mars to local success on the regional and national stage and comfortably sealed the New East Flemish side a berth as a founding member of Ligue.A. A flexible and disciplined tactician, Anne-Sophie is known to favour a moderately attack-minded approach that has brought 28 Mars four New Flemish and two Federal Championships in her stint at the club, but is unafraid to mix things up from time to time in order to keep opponents guessing.

Note: Saltsteadish surnames follow RL Netherlands Dutch conventions on surname prefixes: they aren’t capitalised when used in combination with first names or initials, but are capitalised in all other situations. For example, “Carle de Marħt” is correct, while “Carle De Marħt” is not; however, when the given name is not used, “De Marħt” is proper, while “de Marħt” is not.

Biggest loss: Saltstead 0–4 Starblaydia (Maneapolis, EQS; AOCAF LVI matchday 3)

The historic DNA of the Saltsteadish game has rested on a style best compared to a deadbolt, best described as a karela-esque style of patience and control. Great importance has been placed on midfielders to control possession and act as the first of two lines of defence, with attack limited to sporadic, opportunistic runs at moments of weakness. However, blending the Saltsteadish defensive tradition with a bolstered and emboldened attack to balance is the price (some) supporters are willing to pay to avenge a cycle which has left the realm united and bitter.

The shock appointment of a new Qusmi head coach has thrown the tried-and-possibly-true formula out the nearest window into the wastelands of Kryosis. Remaining true to the defensive roots of the Saltsteadish game has often been a demand of the Saltsteadish faithful, but the former KF Qastyr head coach has made it their mission to coax out the best attacking talents that have up to hence remained buried in the rough of the Såutstedisħ Mästerheid and the Saltsteadish youth system.

Vukoja Resigns After Mattijana Cough up Qualification Chances Against Saintland

Mattijanan football fans have been left reeling after the final match of World Cup Qualifying as Mattijana drew 0-0 with Saintland to miss out on a playoff by a point.

A loss for the Busoga Islands against Vilita meant that Mattijana only had to win against second-bottom Saintland to make the playoff round, but a dour goalless draw meant they missed out, albeit with the best ever finishing position of any Mattijana side.

Manager Dusan Vukoja was expected to resign, or be sacked, if his team failed to qualify for a 10th successive cycle, but the unexpectedly competitive nature of the Marmots' performances meant that was put into question regardless of the eventual result. Despite that, Vukoja announced he would be standing down at a press conference in the Mattijanan capital of Petrovijanka this evening.

Speaking to a hastily assembled group of journalists at the headquarters of the MattijanaFussBand, Vukoja revealed that he thought he would be "unable to take the national team any further", but also said that he had "greatly enjoyed" his time in charge and would "treasure his victories, experiences and lessons learned" in any potential future job.

The former Puljanka boss said he would take some time off to spend time with his family before returning to football, although what guise that would take is currently a mystery. With former Mattijana head coach Matej Ljubanik currently doing well in charge at Lochario, an international comeback would not be unprecedented, even one at a team in the world's top 60.

For now though, the focus is on what will happen next for Mattijana. The Marmots come into the Cup of Harmony in Damukuni and Eastfield Lodge with no manager, no clear way forward and at the mercy of the MattijanaFussBand.

Max Juremchuk and Ameli Kurnic head the list of favourites to replace Vukoja, but with little time between now and the beginning of the Cup of Harmony, it will likely be the former manager who has the biggest impact on the side rather than his replacement.

Whoever they go for, the MattijanaFussBand has a big choice to make. Keeping the momentum of this cycle going, whilst adding an injection of fresh ideas and more importantly, fresh optimism, is a tricky task, especially given the new head coach must follow up a defensive effort that many thought was impossible given the current crop of players without making any sacrifices to an already stretched attack.

That is no easy challenge and although there will be plenty of enthusiasm amongst the top PrvaLiga managers towards taking on the role, many will not necessarily be envious of the one who eventually gets it.

As the painful memories of a bitterly disappointing evening fade, the realisation that there is a fair bit of rebuilding to do will surely become clearer. For now though, fan are reflecting on the what-ifs and missed opportunities of another qualifying cycle.

As if Austria, Slovenia, North-Eastern Europe and Sweden were merged together into some weird stew of a country.

MAREIBAT CUP OF HARMONY 75 ROSTER

Manager: Roy Tobin, Aged: 54
Assistant Manager: Ezekial Charlestown, Aged 44
Style: +0.75

Spiel: Mareibat continue to mosy their way through life in terms of international performances, the team being very much... just present at the last Copa Rushmori. There is definitely talent in the side but the infrastructure back in Mareibat just doesn't really exist at the moment with the country in turmoil domestically. The side are definitely strongest up front and at the back, with Admiral Falcon now establishing himself as one of the best keepers in the ANL while up front Richard Armada continues to play well in a big league while Mubaaraka Durtch will be trading up from second tier Skibbereen United to an ANL side or a top tier side in another league next season such is his potential. What let's the squard down is their depth, with many players outside the starting XI being of a much lower calibre or ageing now. Roy Tobin will need an injection of youth into the side in the near future.

The Hapilopper National Football Team Headquarters, Hapilopper City
A period of time after the World Cup Qualifiers
A good bit of time had passed since the Hapilopper National Football Team had gone their separate ways following their unsuccessful qualifying effort for the 83rd World Cup. The players of the HNFT had returned to their domestic teams, and returned to a much more physical style of play in the Hapilopper Football Association. Only this time, the crowds had shown up in masses to watch this sport they had fallen in love with during the Baptism of Fire and the World Cup Qualifiers.

In two weeks, the HFA had seen attendance records shatter across the board. 66,025 in Capital Stadium to see the Hapilopper City Soldiers take on the Highway Patrol. 64,375 in Buckridge’s Parsons Stadium to see FC Buckridge take on United Hampton Cities. 71,349 in Garvinson Memorial Stadium to see the Garvinson Trojans take on Peoria City. Even 55,000 in BankTrust Park in the suburbs of Surrey to watch Surrey United take on Pinkerton City, in an unpopular stadium not easily accessible to the rest of the area.

These were eye-popping numbers, especially when you consider the fact that the HFA had usually performed in front of about 5,000 to 6,000 people at the most. And the fans that showed up at the stadium and tuned into the H-Sports Network to watch the matches were treated to a spectacle. Fans got to see a physical game between players that would stop at nothing to win. Occasionally, tempers would flare over, and hostilities would re-emerge.

For instance, that match between the Soldiers and the Highway Patrol? Ernie Stevenson, striker for the Soldiers, was well on his way to scoring a goal to put them ahead 2-0. Colin McLain, defenseman for the Highway Patrol, had other ideas. He picked Ernie up and physically slammed him to the grass surface at Capital Stadium. All hell broke loose. Sure, they had been teammates on the HNFT, and they had developed a bond, but, wow.

Ernie shot back up and threw a left haymaker at McLain, who fire back with a right cross of his own. The benches emptied and for ten minutes, a byproduct of the physical style of Hapiloppian sport had reared its ugly head.

Thom Perkins, watching the match on television, was appalled. Not so much with the fight, but rather with the fact that two national teammates were throwing punches at each other in a showcase match, a rivalry match, on national television. How could they work together if they were wanting to kill each other?

That evening, Thom sent a text to both players, as well as Dominic Probst, the head of the Hapilopper Football Association.

“We need to talk. Meet me in my office at 11 AM at the team HQ. If you have other plans, change them,” the text read.

Those other plans had to change. Ernie and his wife Wendy were supposed to attend a Hapiloppian Kennel Club meeting that morning, while Colin was supposed to meet up with some friends to watch the HASCAR Challenge Cup race.

To their surprise, they came into the office and realized that Thom wanted to speak to both of them at the same time.

“You two are teammates,” Thom said. “I’m not going to have teammates throwing punches at each other in a match. I don’t care how it started. The last thing we need is team strife. Remember what I said the first time we all met? Together we stand, divided we fall?”

“Look, I’m not going to take…” Ernie started.

“You keep quiet, because I’m not done yet,” Thom snapped. “As far as I understand, you two are still teammates on the Hapilopper National Football Team. Consequently, I will not tolerate any kind of strife. I want to know what the hell was going on.”

“Look, I’m a physical ball player,” Colin started. “He was coming in for a goal, and the rest of my teammates had failed to stop him. I had to stop him.”

“And the way you stopped me was totally inappropriate,” Ernie responded. “You think I’m just going to sit down and let you do that?”

“Yes, because I’ll do the same damn thing to our opponents,” Colin said, a hint of intensity rising in his voice as he thought about winning. “Ernie, I’m like you. I play to win the game. What happened yesterday was nothing personal. I don’t have anything against you. Matter of fact, I like you these days. I won a championship because of you. But yesterday, you were my opponent and I had to stop an attack. That’s my job.”

“So, that’s it?” Ernie said. “You’re just going to go back to wanting to be friends now? That was a goddamn cheap shot, Colin.”

“Yeah, because I decided you weren’t going to score against me,” Colin replied. “Now, if we’re going up against someone else, and I’m trying to protect a lead that you’ve built for us, I’ll do the same damn thing to keep that lead you worked so hard to give us. Don’t take what happened yesterday personally, because to me, it’s not.”

Ernie struggled to think of what to say. It was obvious the incident from the day before still bothered him greatly. Thom, on the other hand, liked what he had just heard.

“I need that attitude,” Thom said with a smile. “See, I need a team that’ll win by any means necessary, and if takes that, then great. But I can’t have you guys trying to kill each other. I’m not going to have my players throwing punches at each other.”

Ernie was still struggling and sputtering as he sat next to Colin, who by now had a big smirk on his face. It was obvious that Colin and Thom both had a good point and he didn’t really want to admit it.

“Look, you’re right,” Ernie said to Colin, obvious exasperation in his voice. “I know you’re right. You know you’re right. I love the fact that you want to win by any means necessary, but still, that was a cheap hit, man.”

“I only did it to you because you were about to score against me,” Colin said. “I wish it was someone else, to tell the truth.”

“Yeah. This will be water under the bridge for me, because I want to win some more.”

While the two players were working out their differences, something was about to go terribly wrong in another HFA match. It was something that would take a key starter of the HNFT out of the equation entirely.

Claude Davis Stadium, West Hampton, Hapilopper
West Hampton Sports Club v. West River FC
Kelvin Beverly was one of the mainstays on the West Hampton Sports Club. A defensive midfielder, Kelvin knew what he needed to do to stop a West River attack, and it started with Murray Hunnisett and Tommy Evangelista, the two offensive midfielders for West River. If he could stop Murray and Tommy, it would do very well to neutralize the threat from the opposition.

It was the 39th minute, and Kelvin had made Murray’s life miserable as both teams tried to claw their way out of a 0-0 tie. Murray would get the ball, but Kelvin would root his way into Murray’s legs and take that ball away before kicking it downfield. There was some trash talk, but all things considered, it was nothing personal. The two were teammates on the national team, and had become friends over that magnificent run in the Baptism of Fire and qualifying for the World Cup.

But then, something horrific happened. As Murray and Kelvin jockeyed for position as the ball flew their way, Kelvin hit the turf, and was screaming in pain. When Murray looked down to see if Kelvin had tried to draw a foul, he was horrified to see his lower left leg turned a way that nature hadn’t intended it to.

“GOD DAMN IT, MY LEG! MY LEG!” Kelvin screamed.

Even though he was an opponent on this evening, Murray stopped and tried to comfort Kelvin as WHSC’s medical staff rushed over as quickly as possible. The fans went into a hush as they wondered about Kelvin’s condition. It was obvious he was very seriously injured, and possibly, his career had come to an end.

As Kelvin was loaded onto a stretcher and put in an ambulance, Murray motioned to his West River teammates that he was going to ride in the ambulance with Kelvin. He had taken that national team assignment very seriously, and he had taken the concept of team togetherness very seriously as well.

The Hapilopper National Football Team Headquarters, Hapilopper City
Ten minutes later
Ernie Stevenson and Colin McLain were still discussing matters with Thom Perkins when a red telephone rang in Thom’s office. That red phone was there for emergencies only, and the staff of every team in the Hapilopper Football Association knew the number to that phone. That number was to be dialed when, and only when, an emergency had unfolded.

So, when the red phone rang, everyone went quiet. Ernie and Colin stopped whatever they were talking about and looked at the phone, then up at Thom.
Slowly and worriedly, Thom picked up the phone and put it up against his ear.

“Thom Perkins, HNFT.”

“Thom, it’s Bud Keller with the West Hampton Sports Club. Kelvin Beverly just snapped his leg. It’s bad.”

“Shit.”

“Yeah, it’s bad,” Keller continued. “I’ve got a few people in the hospital with him. Murray Hunnisett of West River is there too. His leg was twisted the wrong way.”

By the end of the day, Kelvin had been deemed “out” of the Cup of Harmony. Replacing him in the starting defensive midfielder’s position was Doug Morse, who rode the bench for most of the team’s run in the Baptism of Fire and the World Cup qualifiers. Replacing him on the bench was Eli Tyrrell, a scrappy player from Surrey United. Tyrrell would likely be bound and determined to make the starting lineup for a few games, and he would work like hell to make it.

It had not been a good start for the HNFT, but hopefully, things would get better. Hopefully, the HNFT would get back to their winning ways.

Back in the Lodge
By Steve Stevenson

EASTFIELD LODGE - The Maroons return to the site of some of their greatest games! With the secondary world cup known as the cup of Harmony being hosted in Eastfield Lodge, a place where the Maroons have had much success. It's the site of several of the Baptism of Fire playoffs games and the country where Glenn Hailey's comet goal was scored in the championship versus Balqia. Now we await the draw for the Cup of Harmony as Eastfield and co-hosts Damukuni of Esportiva, but we are hoping for a return to the Lodge. There's been a lot of news since the qualifiers. Mainly two things. One is that several prominent Xannerian footballers are actively considering going overseas. One of them is Glenn Hailey, the Captain of the Maroons has been playing in Starcom for the last five years but he wants to in his words "expand the brand of Maroons football". Pete Saigon, the oft forgotten and beleaguered forward in A Mushroom Kingdom has already said he wants to either return to Xanneria or play internationally outside of the big six. His last team Bean Bean Provincial finished last place in the AMK Strikers league after injuries depleted his team and he looks for a team where he can share the load with another player. Saigon had issues carrying the young team of reserves and loaners.

In other news, you may have heard of Lydia Amber. Amber is a 20 year old striker from the Pearlham Univeristy who made news by scoring a hat trick in Xannerias 5-0 win in the Big Six U21 cup. She was the first female to make what had been a historically all-male squad. She's important as there has been a huge push from many people male and female to make the Maroons national team coed. Jedd Gyjorko has been supportive of this deal and it could be a step in the right direction. Although many experts believe with the state of Xannerian football it may be only handfull of cycles before we get a fully coed team.

With the CoH tournament we could be seeing a strong field, while Xanneria had a strong tournament they are still dealing with some tough countries, long time veteran nations such as 95X, Drawkland, and Krytenia. Alongside them are Esportivan powers such as Mattijana and Dreamplanet. Plus rising powers such Tamgu, Brusseldorf, and Port Ember. It will be an interesting fight for the Maroons as they claw their way to the top and hopefully some of that Eastfield magic happens again.

DIFFICULT GROUP FOR THE HAWKS
Image

The group stage draw of the Cup of Harmony was the most-watched television and internet stream in Tamgu last night. The spectators all around the United States held their breath and bit their lips as they waited for Tamgu's group to be finalised. The group that they ended up in is difficult for them, as they are the "weakest team on paper" among the five. However, Tamgu has shown in the WCQ that stats and rankings do not matter, which is the reason behind the fans' optimism. Possibly the best thing that could be taken out of the group draw was getting Abanhfleft, a nation Tamgu has played before and drew twice. The other opponents Darmen, Mattijana and Sajnur are going to be new for The Hawks, which seems worrying as they are quality sides, but the manager Albin Nerovod seems confident they can get results in their way against them. Another good thing about the group is that no team looks good enough to be able to dominate the group, which may give Tamgu opportunities to squeeze through the infighting.

Manager Albin Nerovod in the interview after the group draw: "Well, I am happy with this group draw. We could've ended up in a much harder group, there's a team we know about. Darmen looks like the only real threat to me, but not to disrespect the other teams, they're also quite high-quality. I know our opponents looked at the 158 next to our name and wrote 'easy six points' in their notebooks but they wll see how well we can play. The boys are looking more excited and hungry for success than ever, I can feel the spirit among the lads. They are training every day and I feel they're getting better by the second."

Assistant Manager and Ex-Tamgu National team player Takra Resak: "First of all, I am very excited to be assistant manager of my national team. When Albin invited me to work with him I was over the moon. It will feel awkward to manage my ex-teammates but I think I can get used to this. We have been thinking with Albin since right after the draw until now about the tactics of our team and possible first XI's. We will keep working hard on our way to success."

While HUElavia ended up having a disappointing Qualifiers for WC 83, finishing in 3rd once again along with falling short of playoffs by 5 points, the HUElavian NT was pleasantly surprised to be invited into the Cup of Harmony 75, which would be their first appearance in the tournament, and their 3rd major tournament appearance. (After one appearance in the Baptism of Fire and the Futsal Invitational Cup).

HUElavia (58) is placed in Group F with the likes of 95F (33), Dreamplanet (64), Timuria (85), and Port Ember (99), which will be played in the co-host country Eastfield Lodge. HUElavia is expected to have massive crowds appearing for the matches, including the presence of President Ruben Fernandez-Casillas and Vice-President Angelica Bautista-Saito to support the team during their matches.

HUElavia will field the same 23 players used for the Qualifiers, using the same 11 starters used for the big matches. Based on ranking, HUElavia is expected to Qualify as Runner-Up into the Round-of-16, although there is a likely scenario that they could advance as one of the best-ranked 3rd place teams.

This is an excellent chance for HUElavia to grow as a sporting nation and have optimism to make some noise in this tournament.

IS REDEMPTION CALLING?

Image

Os Tricores' have a tough but doable group

To all Dreamplanetian football fans, the World Cup 83 campaign left a bitter taste thanks to all of the missed chances that Dreamplanet were left to rue, the late bullrun that almost saved our qualifying hopes only to be dashed by Eura, however Dreamplanet have second wind at the Cup of Harmony, hoping to improve on their World Cup 83 disappointment to get out of the Cup of Harmony group stage for the first time ever like in the Campionato Esportiva, while national morale has been hit hard by the failure to qualify, the goal has been set to make it out of the group stage.

The draw took place in Eastfield Lodge and this is the outcome:
Group F
95X (33)
Dreamplanet (64)
Port Ember (99)
Timuria (85)
HUElavia (58)

The matches will be played in Eastfield Lodge who are co-hosting this edition of the Cup of Harmony alongside Damukuni who finished 4th in the CE24 after getting eliminated by eventual champions, Kita-Hinode. Dreamplanet will face fellow Portuguese-speakers HUElavia, a tough-looking Timuria, a consistent Port Ember and 95X, the third best team to be in the Cup of Harmony, Dreamplanet should see this as a good opportunity to put the disappointment of the World Cup 83 qualifying campaign to bed with a good showing in the Cup of Harmony, however it will not be easy since it will be alongside other nations that also had high hopes for the World Cup and couldn't get it done for a myriad of different reasons like Dreamplanet, so each nation will also be trying their hardest to redeem themselves, Os Tricores should aim high but be careful as they aren't the only ones with a story in this tournament.

The HNFT Team Center, Eastfield Lodge
The day before the first match day
Fortunately for the Hapilopper National Football Team, the first match day of the Cup of Harmony would be their bye game. They would play four games starting with the second match day, and their first match would see them face the Drawkland Kick Corps, a team of interesting footballers, to say the least. Training had begun with an eye on that Drawkland team, the highest-ranked of all the five teams in the group.

To say the least, the last week or so had been a trying time for the HNFT. They had just come off their first appearance in the Cup of Champions, and boy, what a debacle that turned out to be. Their first match was against the number one team in the world, Vilita. The result was the worst defeat the Haps had ever taken – a 5-0 defeat to the defending champions of the multiverse, and it set the tone for the rest of their campaign in that event. Their next match was a 5-3 shellacking to Brenecia, followed by a 3-2 defeat to Banija.

It had not been a good campaign for the Haps, and by the time they were set to leave the Kingdom of Banija, goalkeeper Cooter Harris just about wanted to quit the team. He had felt responsible for the three losses, and he just wanted to go away. After being talked off the ledge by players like Ernie Stevenson and Murray Hunnisett, Cooter was convinced to stay with the team.

As training came to an end for the day just before the second match day, Thom Perkins brought the troops together, to think about the coming few days.

“You know, we’ve got a real shot to make something happen here,” Thom said. “We had a bit of a reality check the past couple of weeks with that Cup of Champions. I think all of us know what happened, and I don’t think any one person is to blame for that. We were underprepared. That’s why we’ve come in to train and get ready. You know, one day, we’ll be able to beat a team like Vilita, and it’ll be sooner rather than later. But we need to forget about what happened then, and let’s focus on what’s coming up. We’ve got Drawkland coming up. You know the thing about them? They can be defeated.”

A number of the players muttered in agreement. Thom was right. The Haps had defeated stronger teams before when they weren’t favored by any means.

“You know, a lot of people are calling us the team to watch in this Cup of Harmony,” Thom continued. “Maybe not the team to beat, but the team to watch. People say we’re among the most exciting teams in international football. There’s a reason for that. You guys are some damn good footballers. What I’ve seen from this training tells me that we’re going to do damn good.”

The players nodded in agreement. The training had done a great deal to boost their confidence after the debacle of the Cup of Champions. It had been a reality check, but it was over. All the Hapiloppians could do was learn from it, and gain some kind of motivation from it. At least, that’s what Ernie Stevenson was thinking.

“You know, I’d like to get on the level that we could whip Vilita’s ass one day,” Ernie said. “Hell, we could whip Turori’s ass too. Shit, we could whip Vilita and Turori’s asses at the same time. Anybody else see that as an achievable goal?”

Other players gave responses of approval. It was a goal they could strive for.

“I mean, who in here wouldn’t mind facing one of those two nations in a World Cup Final before long?” Ernie continued. “I think we could make it happen sooner rather than later.”

“Baby steps, Stevenson,” Thom interrupted. “Hapilopper City wasn’t built in a day. We’ve got to focus on this, and don’t look past it. Otherwise, we’ll be burnt toast and we’ll screw the pooch on this one. Just focus on this match and the Cup of Harmony, and we’ll be fine.”

The next day, the HNFT huddled around a large television in the Team Center to watch the match between Drawkland and New Saria. This wasn’t a time for the team to be clowning around. There was no party going on. This was a time to study, a time to search for any deficiencies in the Kick Corps’ game. If there was a time to find it, the time was now.

The Tridents prepares to face off against Timuria in the opening match

Pre Match Analysis & Interview

By Erica Davies - Port Ember Times Sports Section

Port Ember will face off against Timuria in their first match of the Cup of Harmony group stages, to be played at one of the designates cup stadiums of Easfield Lodge.

This match marks the second time these two teams will meet, the previous one was the international debut of both teams during the last Baptiam of Fire league, where Timuria managed to beat Port Ember with a final score of 2-1.

Team Stats Analysis

Timuria:

This team is ranked as the 85th best team in the world currently and has proven to be a formiddable and adaptable new team on the international field. Like Port Ember, they partook in the last World Cup Qualifier Run, where they failed to qualify, yet performed well enough to be invited to this years Cup of Harmony. They have met Port Ember before in the last BoF tournament, and have defeated Port Ember 2-1. They are entering this match as the match favourites.

Port Ember:

This team is ranked as the 99th best team in the world currently and has proven to be a formiddable and adaptable new team on the international field. Like their opponents, they partook in the last World Cup Qualifier Run, where they failed to qualify, yet performed well enough to be invited to this years Cup of Harmony. They have met Timuria before in the last BoF tournament, and have defeated Port Ember 2-1 - making them one of only 2 teams who have defeated them in the BoF.

From a pure statistics point of view, Timuria is entering this match as the slight favourites. However both sides feels as if they have something to prove and will thus go out swinging for the fences.

Team Analysis - Port Ember

Offense: The technical offensive skills of the team is on suberb form. The chemistry between their starting striker duo and their midfield creates amazing attacking oppertunities. Also their signature 'Bait Ambush' tactic is still a highly effective tactic, proven to be effective at this level of football.

Midfield: Traditionally the strongest component of this team, under command of the amazing Reddington. The midfield has so far always been a dangerous element to its oponents, acting as an attacking defence and sets up the front line well with attacking oppertunities.

Defence: The backline has struggled in the last few matches and is showing some serious signs of 'falling apart'. Coach Baxer needs to make a desperate change here as it will continue to cost him matches if he cannot fix this serious problem.

Goalkeeping: Analysts have nothing but praise for Peter Smith the starting goalie. The young man is a legend in the making.

Substitutes: The team has a impressive line-up of substitutes, whom have received field time recently, adding possible depth to the team when needed. The extra attention they have received from the assistant coach is sure to play a important role as well.

Team Morale & Cohesion: The 4 year youth program is paying off dividends, as the team has excellent cohesion and on-the-field chemistry.

Current Form: Not yet observed due to this being the first match.

Typical Gameplan: Their typical system of tiring out and frustrating their opponents in an attempt to pull their 'Bait Ambush' is a risky play which can easily go wrong and concede a goal. However when it works, it is highly effective, and so far this is still effective on this level so far.

Team Analysis - Timuria

Offense: The Timuria side is well known as an aggressive team, focusing majority of their effort on presuring the opponents and launching continious attacks. Their striker - #11Vatan Ercetin has already made a massive name for himself and is possibly a future legend.

Midfield: This team has a impressive, skilled and multi layered midfield, serving as a dangerous defence/counter attack tool for the team. Analysts have nothing but praise for their #9 - Caner Turan.

Defence: This teams defence have struggled in rhis area in the past, much like Port Ember, but have consistently grown into a stronger line-up. They are not as fit as the Tridents players, but have proven to be more technical.

Goalkeeping: Once again, a component with talented and experienced players.

Substitutes: The team has a impressive line-up of substitutes, filled with some of the best and freshest talent hailing from Timuria, adding possible depth to the team when needed.

Team Morale & Cohesion: The team has displayed that they are highly motivated and more than prepared to put the work in to finish the job. They also have the look of a unified, well oiled team.

Current Form: Not yet observed due to this being the first match.

Typical Gameplan: This team is a offensive heavy team, focussing on a strong and technical midfield. The high octane offense of Port Ember will have a hard day trying to burst through this impressive midfield due to their better technical skills.

Starting Line-Ups

Port Ember

Goalkeeper (GK)(#1): Peter Smith.

Center Back (CB)(#2): Josh Richards.

Center Back (CB)(#3): Jason Lee.

Full Back (LB)(#4): Alex Kuhn.

Full Back (RB)(#5): Russel Pierce.

Attacking Midfield (AM)(#18): Ray Reddington.

Defensive Midfield (DM)(#6): Steven Packard.

Wide Midfield (LM)(#8): Jason Chamberlain

Wide Midfield (RM)(#11): Steve Rogers.

Pre Match Interview with Port Emberian Coach - Stuart Baxter

Erica Davies: Morning Coach. So here we are, Cup of Harmony 75! Congratulations!

Stuart Baxter: Morning Erica. Thank you! The CoH is a bit bitter-sweet as we are here due to failing in the World Cup Qualifiers, yet we did do well enough to be invited here - which is still a world class and prestigious tournament.

Erica Davies: So coach, you are officiolly labeled as the 'Underdogs of the group'. How does this make you feel?

Coach Baxter: -Coach Laughs- Well Erica, no different than every match we have ever played. We have ALWAYS been the underdogs.

Erica Davies: Are you worried about the next game?

Stuart Baxter: I wont say that I am worried no. Look Timuria is a hell of a team and they have bested us before. But that makes me excited. I have been publicly pleading for a revenge match - and my oppertunitty has finally arrived.

Erica Davies: So for the next game, any changes in your gameplan, based on your opponents play?

Stuart Baxter: Indeed actually. It is not a large change, rather a few improvements to our play. And we will also hammer on a few weaknesses we have noticed from the opposition.

Erica Davies: Good awnser! Lastly, prediction for the upcoming match?

Stuart Baxter: I know our opponents are an excellent team who have bested us before, so we will be going out with guns blazing. Even if things needs to get physical, we are bringing our A Game! This is a revenge match, so even if we need to risk injuries or suspensions - so be it!

Eastfield Lodge Roster for Cup of Harmony 75

Image

Demonym: Eastfielder

Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to a small bubble universe, wherein the rest of the Imperial Commonwealth is located (barring a couple of nations, but they’re linked up in other ways). The IC part describes the fact that there are several empires contained within one superstructure – divisions which are somewhat reflected in the convoluted league structure.

Those of you who know this nation well however will wonder what has happened to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme). Don’t worry, I will (hopefully) RP what went on. To those who don’t know, this nation used be in the NSverse, but due to the acts of a lone madman from The Holy Empire (mad, or pitiful, the legends are a bit shaky), Eastfield Lodge almost vanished from existence, leaving behind a small island (now in Rushmore), attached to a portal connecting here to the Whoniverse. Things happened, the portal became unstable, and we had to form a bubble universe, and as a result, the resulting temporal shockwave both wiped out all electronic records, and did some weird stuff to people’s ages (hence why some names in the team may seem recognisable).

Anyways, because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races and much advanced technology here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: a lot of the information there is inaccurate though, TG me for clarification).

Back to the nation itself, Eastfield Lodge is probably the best place to live in the entirety of Rushmore, according to the WA at any rate. Amongst the accolades heaped upon are: Most Compassionate Citizens, Most Beautiful Environments, Happiest Citizens, Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, Healthiest Citizens, Least Corrupt Government, Longest Average Lifespan, Lowest Crime Rates, Nicest Citizens, Largest Public Transportation Department, Safest, Smartest Citizens, Most Popular Tourist Destinations, Best Weather and Largest Welfare Programs. Also of note is the fact that, in a region containing Saintland, Eastfield Lodge is the Most Devout nation, with Islam being the national religion, and that we have the Highest Police Ratios, so do not be alarmed by the sheer number of police officers.
Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Manager: Jane Williamson
Age: 50. The first female player to play for the Eastfielder national team back in the day, the former RGS full back became the first big Eastfielder coach in another country, as she went and became the assistant manager for the Chromatika national team, and quite successfully, up until that nation's disappearance from the world. And quite fortunately, she landed in this role after the retirement of her predecessor, although things haven't started auspiciously for her so far, opting not to ring any big changes to the team's system for her first few cycles. Very much a man manager as opposed to an astute tactician.

Assistant Manager: Robert Andrews
Age: 50. The former national team striker, who had over a century of international appearances to his name during his career, was specifically recruited by the previous manager, his old friend and ex-teammate Shabeen Ahmad III. This is his first major job in football since his playing retirement, but his ability to calmly analyse situations even under immense pressure has earned him some plaudits from those in the know, and as such could prove to be a vital asset to the national team going forward.

Formation: 3-3-3-1
Image

It's a new look defensive formation for Eastfield Lodge now, with the team moving to three at the back, but still retaining the rotating attack system - striker and three players in behind moving about to find space. Malenna von Kraus also has her role changed, moving into the back three with permission to advance forwards on attack, allowing the formation to switch from a 3-3-3-1 to a more balanced 4-2-3-1 or even 4-1-4-1 in attacks, whilst the wingbacks retain the same attacking freedom they had under the previous 4-1-2-3 system. In terms of goal scoring, the ST will get the bulk of the goals, with good contributions from the AM and both WFs as well. The WFs will get most of the assists, followed closely by the AMs, then the ST, DM and the wingbacks.

If I do RP, I will include the line-up for the next match in my RP post, along with any suspensions/injuries. If there is no line-up, look through my posts and check for current suspensions/injuries, but otherwise it’s fine. Also, if you're RP'ing any part of my match, please use the full name Eastfield Lodge at least once, it helps me find the RP.

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

Looking Back and Looking Forward

by Tufan Nursultan

The Red Wolves' preparation for the Cup of Harmony is complete, a boring 0-0 draw with Taeshan that allowed some of the lesser known and fringe players an opportunity to run out, though Bekir Altingunes decided to keep the starting defensive line out there in front of 41 year old keeper Hasan Kocaeli and Mehmet Karaman given a full game upfront, though he failed to hit the back of the net. With the group stage drawn and the national team on their way to Eastfield Lodge as one of the five teams making up Group F we can now look back on qualification and identify what went right and wrong as well as look to our competitors in the group and see what we can learn from their qualification performances.

What went right is a rather obvious list, averaging 3 goals per match is something that is likely to be fundamentally unsustainable, but the potential goalscoring ability within the squad led by prolific striker Vatan Ercetin who has recorded an impression 20 goals in 20 caps. The performances behind the advanced forward have also been a bright spot, with Ertan Renda in particular distinguishing himself in the qualifiers. The other positive is the fact that the national team went the entire second half of the qualification undefeated, with the defensive issues seemingly being ironed out towards the end of the qualification campaign giving confidence to the national team.

Among the things that went wrong were the National Team's slow to the qualification campaign, mustering a mere 8 points from their first 6 matches. Some attribute this to the management's inability to get a firm grip on the defensive side of the ball, others to inexperience at the international level. Whatever the answer may be, Bekir Altingunes cannot afford a slow start in the Cup of Harmony. The other issue Bekir Altingunes must get a handle on is some player's tendency to become unhappy in particular the player penciled in to be the number one goalkeeper Saban Inekci who essentially went on strike to protest the poor quality of the defensive play on the pitch.

Now we will look at each of our fellow Group F competitors in the order that we will face them in the group stage:

Port Ember
Ranking: 99
Record in Qualifying (W-D-L): 3-5-4, 14 points, 4th place.
Player to Watch: Danny Nicovic - Very much the Port Emberian's answer to Vatan Ercetin only he has managed to exceed the 1 goal per cap ratio of our advanced forward. He will be familiar to fans of the Red Wolves as the player who scored for our first opponents in our first ever match at international level a 2-1 victory in the Baptism of Fire.
Analysis: Our first ever opponents are now our first opponent in this iteration of the Cup of Harmony. Few will have forgotten that 2-1 victory for the Red Wolves that feels an eternity ago. Much has happened to both teams since, The Tridents were 10 points off the pace for a playoff spot and 19 off qualification in a group that was clearly stratified with Port Ember sitting right in the middle of it. Their attacking record is one that will give every team in the group pause with 25 goals scored, however their defence has left a lot to be desired conceding an equal number to those they scored. Playing in a rather dull, but effective attacking 4-4-2 formation, they will be difficult to overwhelm completely with waves of attacks as they will already sit in two banks of four players. While based solely on rankings one would expect them to sit at the bottom of the group, we know from experience that this is not a team to be taken lightly by anyone, so no side must take them as such.

HUElavia
Ranking: 58
Record in Qualifying: 6-3-3, 21 points, 3rd place.
Player to Watch: Ivan Mendieta-Martinez - The captain of the team and a central piece of their defence, his performances will prove essential in determining how their fortunes pan out.
Analysis: Following a bye, the national team will come up against HUElavia, a team that recorded a similar level of performance during the qualifiers as our national team. They found themselves 5 points behind both Mercedini and Krytenia who occupied Group G's qualification and playoff spots respectively. They play in the same baseline 4-2-3-1 that the Red Wolves do, but have shown a certain defensive stability that until the final few matches had eluded Bekir Altingunes' men. Scoring an impressive 29 while only conceding 16 through the whole qualification campaign. The national team will need to be wary of their offensive firepower lest they fall victim to their own defensive shortcomings while also finding their way past a well organised defence that are clearly able to provide cover for their attacking endevours. Most would expect the competition for progression to the knockout stages to come down to HUElavia, our fellow Group R friends 95X and Dreamplanet, but a good result here could shift the national team's outlook on the competition at large

95X
Ranking: 33
Record in Qualifying: 7-4-1, 25 points, 2nd place.
Playoff Record: 0-1-2, 1 point, 4th place.
Player to Watch: Sydney Hardin - The 20 year old will be familiar to fans of the Red Wolves as she always managed to provide her best matches against us. Bekir Altingunes will need to find a way to get to grips with her while not compromising the team's overall shape and philosophy. She has often struck people in Timuria as a rather underrated element of 95X's attacking play and will surely not make the mistake of underestimating her.
Analysis: Yet another familiar face to us as we face one of the two teams that were able to inflict defeat upon the national team in the qualification campaign. They line up in a well balanced 4-3-3, with neither a particularly attacking or defensive outlook instead trying to find the sweet spot between the two approaches. Despite finishing 5 points above our national team they fell quite some way short of automatic qualification and had to endure the playoffs where they failed to record a win. They are however the only team in this group who attained a playoff berth and will naturally be favourites to top the group though our own experience with them will have shown that there are vulnerabilities to be exploited if teams can locate and exploit them.

Dreamplanet
Ranking: 64
Record in Qualifying: 4-4-4, 16 points, 4th place.
Player to Watch: Luis Silva - The right winger has scored such a large number of goals through his international career as to almost be unbelievable. He will prove a serous threat to all of the teams in the group.
Analysis: Our final match will come against the most attacking minded team in the group and likely challengers to HUElavia and 95X for progression to the Round of 16. They line up in a variety of formations all operating with a flat back four. They operate with the most offensive outlook of any of the 5 teams in the group reflected in their excellent 33 goals in 12 matches in qualifiers. This is rather offset by their weaker defensive record with 29 conceded. They finished a mere 5 points from the playoff spot and a much more distant 11 points from automatic qualification. Despite their slightly lackluster record in the qualifiers they will be looking to bounce back here and deliver for their fans.
