[Question] Regarding Impending Apoc Notifications

Postby Lockdownn » Wed Aug 28, 2019 3:47 pm

Hello,

I am wondering if something was done to de-select the "Notify of Impending Apocalypse" button for all of my puppets. I know I didn't do it and I rely on that to remind me when I need to log in to my puppets so they do not CTE.

Thank you, Lockdownn...

[24 Hour Edit] I would like to add that this caused almost all of my puppets to CTE aside from one I do not regularly check and a handful that I do. The one that I do not regularly check had the button selected whereas the others did not.

Totally unnecessary bump. Lockdownn's weekly bumps were enough to ensure that an admin would eventually read the topic.

The staff members who regularly read Technical topics mostly don't have any access to the Apoc email system. It takes an admin familiar with the email subsystems, which usually means [violet]. I do know there hasn't been a deliberate back-end change lately, so I have no clue what could be causing this.

Which internet provider are you using? Might they now be treating NS emails as spam?

I use yahoo email for this site. I don't see it in my spam folder. They made their big change when verizon dumped it to the old AOL mail team.

I suppose i could create another puppet, tie it to another email service, let it cte and see what happens.

When I was using Yahoo a couple of years ago I had the same trouble, not getting NS emails. I ended up switching to Gmail and haven't had any trouble since then, so you might want to switch to a different email provider.

I am certain this is not related to my internet provider as the selections to receive Impending Apocalypse emails was de-selected in the account settings page on almost all of my puppets including ones that I frequent.

I use Gmail for my accounts and I have received all apocalypse notices up until the setting was de-selected on my accounts. I have yet to see if I can still receive them.

It occurs to me that we had a failure on the database server back in July or so that took out parts of several tables. Given that telegrams, the notification system, and a lot of the settings reside in the database, it may be that the Apoc notification table was compromised. It's not something you'd pay attention to until you needed it, so it might have been going on for months at this point.

In short, while the system may have been compromised, I'm 99.9% sure it wasn't intentional.

That .1% is what dreams are made of.

So just reflipping the switch should do it, Will try that too. Thanks.
