The Convet of Sunrisia has cast a historic vote, legally adopting the Constitution of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia. The adoption of the Constitution was met with a standing ovation at the Convet, the Presidential Palace and the streets of Sunrisia. August 22 has now become an annual celebration known as the Constitution Day or Day of the Constitution. The adoption of the Constitution of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia will be followed up with a ceremony, however, there will be a second ceremony held later, due to many prominent Sunrisians being abroad on this day, while expressing a wish to be physically present in Sunrisia on this momentous occasion.
Among those prominent Sunrisians that could not be here on the day of the adoption of a new Constitution, are – Minister of International Relations Edén Sȏlítûdá, Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér, National Defense Consultant Clîpăs Dépúlsên, Minister of Finance and Economic Development Díva Plénâta, and General Pártên Câstódél. The aforementioned cabinet officials are in Creperia as part of the visiting Sunrisian delegation. Their official visit will end this upcoming Sunday. Meanwhile, General Pártên Câstódél is still in South Baggnagia, overseeing the training of South Baggnagian soldiers and also completing his service as the Commander of Sunrisian Forces – South Baggnagia (SFSB), before his successor General Emér Pârsīná takes over the position. Although all these officials were abroad at the time, they watched the historic moment and applauded it with the rest of Sunrisia.
President Válîd Sâlúbĕr thanked the Constituent Assembly of Sunrisia and the lawmakers at the Convet for realizing the procedure. The President said that the current incarnation of the Sunrisian state finally has a Constitution to call its’ own, rather than a heavily-amended one from the past. There was no constitutional referendum held to approve the draft of the new Constitution, because opinion polls showed that the citizens supported the procedure. However, in case key amendments had to be made to the Constitution in the future, a referendum would be required then.
President Sâlúbĕr gave a long address on the occasion, but there was an important snippet that the head of state wanted to emphasize:
“The word “nationalist” causes negative associations and rightfully so, because of many horrible things that sick minds have done throughout humanity’s history, while using and abusing this label. As Sunrisians, we and our new Constitution, rejects xenophobia and supremacy. Those views are a stain on humanity, but never lose fate that we can do better. Our interpretation of nationalism focuses on sovereignty and identity of our country and our nation at time of intensified political globalization, power projection, hegemony and what we call Neo-Colonialism. We have an ancient culture that we had inherited from our ancestors, which will be preserving, however, we welcome all people and anyone can be a Sunrisian if they want to and feel a connection with our land and our people.”
The Constitution of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia includes Neo-Isolationism and Self-Reliance as state ideologies, but emphasizes that they are not to be forcefully imposed on any individual. The new Constitution also strengthens the format of a centralized state in Sunrisia, in order to eliminate any rifts or negative repercussions left over from the infamous division period.
