Your nation's full name: Central European Commonwealth
Your nation's full population: 94 260 300 (2019)
Your nation's founding date (if you have one): Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth; 1569, defeat of Prussia; 1805, Central European Commonwealth; 1820
Your nation's type of government: Parliamentary democracy, federal state.
How frequent does your government fight amongst each other? Do these internal conflicts regularly cause your government to fail in making important decisions? That nearly lead to our downfall in the 1700's. Our constitution is in place to prevent these times from happening once more.
How economically-independent is your nation? Very. The economy of the CEC contains 30% of the entire GDP of the EU, and the Rhenish States, United Provinces of Holland and Flanders, Scotland and Ireland are basically client states within the EU.
How many personnel are in your military? 237 000 highly trained, professional individuals. We have a reserve force of 32 400 000 in the unlikely event we would ever be invaded. We possess a blue-water navy which can operate anywhere in the world as well as a highly advanced air force.
How many nations is your nation allied with? We're one of the founding members of the EU, We're in Stonewall Alliance, and we have a special relationship with Skyhooked.
Just how big or small is your nation?Comparable to Nazi Germany in 1940 OTL. In terms of relative power within Europe, this would be a good comparison.
On a scale of 1-10, how prepared is your nation against natural disasters? 9.5 We're extremely well prepared, however, climate change is challenging our conceptions.
What is the tech level of your nation? We started our industrial revolution in the 1780's in a period of quiet after we nearly got partitioned by our neighbours and had to fight them off, emancipating our rural peasants to achieve this. The first railroad was built in 1818, connecting the coal mines around Katowice with the capital in Kraków. By 1845, it was possible to travel by rail from Kraków to our Rhine port of Nowy Targ nad Renem, our North Sea ports of Brema and Altona and our Baltic ports of Gdańsk and Lubeka. The period 1900-1950 was a time of great prosperity in our nation, due to us opening up our borders for many foreign thinkers, and including much of their ideas into our way of doing things. This might have saved our economy in the late 1920's when a stock market crash in London nearly caused a global recession when Wall Street in New York City followed suit. Fortunately, at this point we managed to avoid this recession by having key industries nationalized, and generous protections of our nation's work force. We don't know what could've happened if that recession wasn't contained to the Anglosphere. As a result though, the Anglosphere was substantially weakened and we managed to finance many independence movements within their respective colonies, allowing us to snatch up many preferential trade deals with these newly independent countries in the 1930's and 1940's which allowed us to gain access to a number of resources. We split the atom in 1929 in cooperation with our neighbours in the Scandinavian Union, which allowed us to phase out our coal plants starting from 1935 which were choking our cities. Another benefit of this was that we had a massive surplus of energy, which we used to build a network of high-speed railway lines, starting in 1947, and in 1978 we laid the groundwork for our first maglev, which are connecting most of our major cities by now. A sustained nuclear fusion reaction delivering ten times the energy put into it was achieved in 2003 in the Wyszomierz experimental plant, and our first operational 20GW plant in Opole has finished construction and is scheduled to start operation in November 2019. Our tech level is about 2030-2035 OTL.
Does your nation have weapons of mass destruction? If so, how many weapons, and what are they? in 1938, a nuclear accident in one of our experimental nuclear power plants near Brody showed us what an uncontained nuclear reaction can cause. This thought us two things - we need to secure our power plants, especially those near population centres, and second, we should develop this weaponry before someone else does. In 1948 we mounted a 150KT warhead on top of a missile and let it explode 120 km above the Baltic, causing widespread power outages and fried circuitry. This mad us realize that these bombs can effectively be used to take out a nations technological advantage without causing too much harm to the general populace. Currently, we have 4 500 such warheads available - of a uniform 3.3MT yield, designed to explode in the mesosphere. The Scandinavian Union, who is a partner in our nuclear research, has another 1 400 available warheads. We have conventional nuclear arms, although information on this is highly classified, as these tend to be tactical weapons.
Has your nation colonized other planets or objects in space? We currently operate three space stations in LEO, and one at the Earth-Lunar L1 point. On Luna, we're operating a small scientific station at the bottom of the crater Kepler and a experimental helium-3 extraction facility at the lunar south pole. While we've landed people on Mars before, we're not planning on returning until 2024, although then it will be a permanent colony set up in conjunction with mining facilities on Ceres which are expected to be operational in 2035.
Just how sanitary is your nation? We have universal access to clean drinking water, health care and sanitation. Discharge of raw sewage into the environment is being policed with remote sensing satellites and will result in severe penalties for the offender.
Any additional notes about your nation: Imagine a free Poland surviving the partitions with its great liberal institutions, only to kick off the industrial revolution a decade before England and modern democracy a decade before the French Revolution. That's us, and we went on to liberate Europe from tyrannical rule. Now, we're 2019 and we're a power similar to the USA or China OTL due to slightly more advanced tech (what is experimental OTL is pretty much in widespread use here, and what is fringe OTL is pretty much experimental here) and most people like us, because we're basically Sweden, but much, much more powerful.
