Though tbh I don't think that would entirely be a bad thing. Much as Trump's presidency helped kill the alt-right maybe an equally ineffective Sanders presidency could kneecap the left.

It might slow them down however I am pretty sure of the far-right we may only have experienced their primary form and first wave. With the seeds planted already and starting to bear their evil fruits.

Their tendrils are growing and spreading underground as we speak. The alt-right of 2015-17 may merely have been the first wave of future things, unseen yet to come. The entire rise of extremist terrorism is the proof thereof.

Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

The alt-right isn't shrinking as a result of the Trump presidency, why would you think that?

The growth of the far-right is still going on. In Germany they've overtaken Merkels party in a few areas. In general in fact they're a growing movement.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

The alt-right in the US is pretty dead currently tbh. Trump letdown played more than a small part imo.

Yeah, it was quite obvious that we were talking about the US.

I'm sure that is because of immigration.

Good riddance. They were a faction of right-wing politics where the term "deplorable" fit.

Normally I'd say there's more to it than that, but considering how simplistic their motivations are, you're probably right.

There is a large section of the populace that is tired of immigration, and when mainstream parties smugly ignore the sentiment, the Nazis have plenty of potential recruits whom they can manipulate into joining into their movement.

Weren't it for the mainstream parties ignoring this matter, Identitarians and nazis would have no chance. Their actual ideology and antics are widely unpopular.

A war will be fought over this at some point, I'd put money on it

That comes as no surprise. I mean, I'm sure the overwhelming majority of the populace doesn't want to start Holocaust 2.0 or anything like that. Even with immigration issues, I doubt any Nazi parties will gain power. Golden Dawn is a Neo-Nazi group that was a rising star in Greek politics for example, but now the trend is reversing. The 2019 election just resulted in all of their seats being lost in the Greek legislature.

And yet the rightists crow about how popular they're getting. I wonder how much of it is just blind vanity, the desire to say that they're more popular. More influential.

No. I mean immigrants constitute 5% of the German population (according to Wikipedia), and yet everyone’s shitting their pants.

Please note that "rightist" is a vague term. We're not all Nazis or do we all come even close to Nazi doctrine.
