To Welcome the New Duke and Duchess (IC)

The snowy landscape of Landsbruck in the late afternoon gave a very gentle orange and yellow glow and the feeling of an old timely village locked in history. It was home to the Ducal Seat Government of Eylstadt Domain, so named for the family that officially established it at the start of Kuronami as a unified nation instead of two different kingdoms. Just a couple days ago, Benedict von Eylstadt was officially sworn as the new Duke of the Domain, taking the title from his father who served for 45 years, save for the time he was in active military duty then a steward of the Court would be appointed in his stead. But now it was official, Benedict was the new Duke. Normally that's the end of this story, new Lord is named, a gathering among the Lords and Ladies of the Domains of the Empire come to pay respects and have dinner but this was a bit different because now there was a secondary party, a party that would welcome foreign guests from all around to celebrate. Given now the Von Eylstadt family was officially THE most powerful family in Kuronami with Ortfine sitting as the Empress and Benedict now the Duke of the Imperial Capital region it just seemed right to really show Kuronami's accomplishments as a nation, in the most non-hawkish of manners.

First order of business was securing the grounds, ensuring their guests and visiting dignitaries would be safe and well. That was the job of the Duke's head of security, Shinoa Hiiragi. She kept a very stirct ship around here, ensuring every member of the family couldn't be harmed by so much as an insect much less some crazed psychopath. Sometimes dubbed "Bianca's Evil Twin", because much like Fine's own guard, she never messed around. This morning she was walking about the grounds going over every last detail with her team and going down the checklist "And the train lines?"

"Six Marshall in the platforms and four in each cart." A guard responded

"Very good. All right I think our ports of entry and roads are covered well enough now let's look over...." To her surprise as she rounded a corner there was Fine's bodyguard, Bianca Redford there with her own band of merry men and women. "Well well, Bianca."

"Shinoa." Bianca responded rather flat. Bianca and Shinoa had something of a rather strong rivalry as they both vied to be the number one guard, the guard that would be assigned to protect the sitting monarch. When they were both at the academy, that was still Emperor Hermaan then that changed upon graduation and ultimately it was Bianca who was chosen. Shinoa grinned her smug smirk, "I was unaware Dalian would also be in attendance tonight." Dalian, the code name for The Empress, typically only said through open radio coms as opposed to open. "Of course she will be," Bianca responded "her Majesty's Elder Brother being named the Duke is a great honor for her family."

"Very good then. I shall look forward to seeing her and you here tonight. I trust you are also going over your flanks? Fair enough, but rest assured I'm covering every square of this to ensure a smooth operation tonight."

"I have little doubt in that, Shinoa, you are always very thorough but my responsibilities are to ensure Her Majesty's safety and yours are for Her Majesty's Family members. Please excuse me."

"Very well." She stood aside. Rivals as they may be, they had jobs to do, pride and huberus would have to be checked at the door. "Let's go through the cellar again."

====

With security sweeping down through the house and grounds the family was busy preparing themselves. The family of young ladies which included, Carpathia, Rona, Fine and of course the new Duchess herself, Cecelia, the wife of The Duke. The only other one missing from this was Magdalene, who was seeking the hand of a foreign Prince from the Frozen Forest. Getting dressed and prettied up for this evening was a chore which is why this was the evening they were in attendance as opposed to the previous evening which had the formal ceremony. Unusual but this was unusual circumstances. Lotte, Fine's personal maid, was also in attendance to help out while the personal maid for The Duchess, Mayuki tended to her and split the others among herself and Lotte. "Such lovely hair, I can't believe most of the women of this family are blessed with such golden Locks." Lotte complimented as she brushed Her Lady's long golden hair while getting it just right,

"Well except mine," Rona pouted "I'm an auburn."

"And it's just as pretty, young Rona." Mayuki found a way to cheer the littlest girl up. "And yet only The Master - or the Duke rather - has darker hair."

"Family genetics are odd when you mix things together." Carpathia said "Then again who'se to say papa didn't --" Carpathia was cut off by a swift kick to her shins from her older sister. "Yes indeed, genetics are always an odd one." No royal family ever seemed to be free from scandal or gossip and there were plenty of rumors floating young Ben was the product of an affair. It's something nobody pressed on and honestly nobody wanted to really know. Still nothing could really top that the last Emperor was really in love with his sister, hence the lack of a proper blood heir when he died.

A soft rap at the door had the maids scrambling to the doorway to peek out "Oh Milord!" Mayuki greeted with a curtsy, stepping outside into the hall. "Good evening. I trust things are going well, I was hoping to have Cecelia accompany me down to the Ball Room."

"She's nearly ready, Milord, at her instance we've been working to get all your sisters ready."

"That's just like her." Stepping out from behind his older brother was the young son, Eugene looking pretty unhappy wearing the monkey suit. Shoes that felt two sizes too small and just having to be all dressed up like this was always unpleasant. He was glad his older brother was now the Duke so he wouldn't have to be. He could set his sights on being a pro football player maybe Centre forward, or wing.

"Well young Master, don't you look quite shined up and the handsome fellow." Mayuki praised him while adjusting his little tie. "Awww I hate this suit." he pouted

"Now now, young Master you have to look your best for the Lord's big day with so many important guests from all over coming."

"Haha don't worry, Eugene" his brother added "You'll be back on the fields in no time. Why don't you wait for Rona in your bedroom."

"Sure sure."

"And try not to play many games, Young Master we'll need everyone assembled downstairs soon. Anyway I'll get the Lady ready to accompany you soon, I'd have you enter but we --"

"I know I figured you'd have the others in here. Have her finish up, I'll be awaiting at the stairs with Mister Contri."

"Yes, Milord."

Cecelia wasn't that far from being done with getting set for the party this evening. She looked dazzling and her husband who was equally as stunning.. For a man in his mid-30s he seldom seemed to have age a day. While Cecelia was considerably younger still in her 20s making this a real May-December romance. Towering over her at 182 centimeters and her at 158 centimeters He leaned in to kiss her "You look beautiful again, this evening."

"And you look plenty handsome and stunning as you always do. Well, shall we go greet our new arrivals?"

"Sure hope so. I mean aha yeah of course." Admittedly, he was a bit skeptical of seeing much of a turnout considering this was a minor transition of power at a local Duchy level as opposed to a grander State function. But Cecelia seemed confident and excited. Entering the spacious ball room nobody had arrived just yet but the staff were busy making final prepations, getting tables of food and refreshments ready. Taking their seats on the podium which were set for them. "I may be the Duchess but I feel like a Queen already." Cecelia giggled.

Outside the mansion as the sun dipped behind the mountains and the stars began to shine in the sky and the moon the members of the security stood at attention ready to see the guests. It was a stop at the front gate with a small walk up the path to the front doors.

Felicia Sciotóg of the Tribe of Monaghan.
Landsbruck, Empire of Kuronami.

It was summer for us. Yet, here, there was snow. We truly were in the southern hemisphere.
Then again, it was absolutely and stunningly beautiful, the sun setting over the white fields, which took on an orange-red shine... I was born near Bunáit in the Northern Islands, I was used to seeing the beauty of snow, I had enjoyed it my entire life as a girl.
Yet, it never ceased to captivate me.
I am Felicia Sciotóg of the Tribe of Monaghan, Head of the Foreign Office and thus the closest thing to a Minister of Foreign Affairs, which the Free Lands have. I am a woman of 1.79 metres, white and black hair, brushed so that the white side on the left was longer and fell over one of my brown-red eyes. Instead of my usual combo of short pants and white jacket, I wore Geansai, this one in Monaghan's Colours, meaning a red holder to hold my 'argumentation amplifiers' and a white skirt and sleeves, in addition to that grey stockings and the traditional shoes.
I did not wear the bandana, for I thought, that it ruined the hairdo.
With me was Ava Coileán of the Tribe of Westmeath, a bluenette sworddancer, who had traded her usual dress for a Geansai as well, in her case in Westmeath's Colours, Dark Blue Holder and white skirt and sleeves, as well as stockings. She was from Scilly, in the Trossach, a generally rather mild region, so it was understandable, that she froze a bit in her "skimpy fur dress", as uninitiated liked to call the Geansai, unaware of the great insult they rendered towards us with that.
Together, we formed Ambassador Group 6, one of the six groups of the Foreign Office dispatched to foreign countries to represent the Free Lands. One the professional diplomat, myself, one to represent the people, usually a celebrity, Ava.
And here we were, in Landsbruck, in Kuronami. Why? Because the new Duke of the Eylstadt Domain was introduced today. Kuronami was a friend of the Free Lands, so it was only prudent to send someone to congratulate. We were in the general area anyways, so here we in particular were here. And I was in the mood for a bit of a party after boring trade talks in another nation...
Anyway, Kuronami and the Free Lands got along splendidly, the personal vessel of the Empress was built by SDY, tourists from both sides frequently made the trip back and forth, trade relations existed and we shared a lot of friends, like the UIS or Kyrenaia. Many Selkie enjoyed the services of PiffleNet, which came from Kuronami.
Everything was splendid.
And it would be a beautiful evening.
At the front gates, both of us bowed our heads to the security detail in respect, then moved forward to the front doors.
Indeed, it would be beautiful...
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Now with the Duke and Duchess in their places, the orchestra stuck up some soft easy classical music, various pieces from Kuronami's greats from all over the Empire. The rest of the family also assembled down on the ballroom floor. Rona and Eugune made way for the deserts first and foremost, "Don't --" Fine was attempting to call after them to remind them not to overindulgence lest they find themselves up all night with a tummy ache. "Oh heaven's I'll just go with them and keep an eye on them."

"Sure sure, I'll just help myself to some of the bubbly" Carpathia joked. Fine shot a glance her way, "Kidding, kidding, I won't."

Fine caught up to her siblings who both been eyeing the pastries, cakes, tarts, sweets that aligned the table. Lotte brought out a fresh batch of them. "Lotte, you really sure you want to do kitchen duties for the floor? It's not your responsibility you know."

"Not to worry, Your Grace, it's all hands on deck and I'm a hand!"

"Very well, just don't forget to put in for the extra work, you deserve to be paid for it."

"I will, Milady, thank you. And you two, don't give Milady trouble this evening. Best behavior now."

"We won't we won't" they both echoed each other. Rona and Eugene were twins and both sure did act like it. Then their eyes fell on the arrivals from The Freelands, the two Selkie women coming in their Gensai outfits. "Woah, those ladies like totaly wearing furbikinis" Eugene said "Sis, they from the Islands?"

Fine taking a look at them could tell, "No, I think they're Selkie people. They wear Gensai as apart of their traditions. You know like the kimonos or hanbaks in the Eastern Domains."

"Hey didn't a Mazomban Queen show up in a leaf bikini once?" Rona recalled

"That was back in the 19th Century. Either way we always respect a tradition. In fact why don't the two of you go escort them to the stage."

"Suuure!" Rona said with great enthusiasm. "Come on Eugene leet's goooo" She had to pull her brother along he was more intrested in eating.

The two scamps ran up to the Selkie women and hardly missing a beat both said a hearty HELLO to both of them. "Ya know you two kind of dress funny." Eugene said

"Shut up, Eugene!" Rona gave him a shove to quite him down "Don't mind my brother, he doesn't know anything."

"I do know stuff, like how Gunther Markel scored 34 goals in 50 games..."

Rona spoke over him "He's Eugene, I'm Rona. We're the Duke's younger siblings. You probably already know our big sis the Empress but she asked we'd take you to go pay your first greetings. Unless you wanting to eat something first, we have tea, sweets, meats, and all kinds of good stuff. But it could get busy and maybe you want to meet our big bro and his wife now. Either way count one me!" She grinned while Eugene seemed lost in rambling off various football stats.

Landsbruck, Eylstadt Domain, Empire of Kuronami.
Whenever a travel abroad became a thing, one was often supposed to get used to very different weather conditions very quickly. The transition the little ambassadorial squad was now going through was probably one of the most extreme ones possible on earth.
From Lillorainen, suffering from a summer heatwave, to Kuronami, covered in snow. In one day.
Welcome to the Southern Hemisphere.
Friedhelm Marquardt, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federation of Lillorainen, rarely left any possible diplomatic celebration out; for the black-haired and blue-eyed man in his late forties, occasions like these were a welcome possibility to make contact abroad without having to go through the whole monkey-dance of negotiation - trade deals with colleagues debating on decimal fractions of percentages were surely part of his job as well, and would certainly be again very soon, but one must not forget the fun part as well.
And with a skyrocketing number of countries having good ties, or at least no bad blood, with the Federation, it was only natural, that more and more ambassadorial staff was needed. For this case, the Foreign Office had provided someone who was quite experienced at diplomacy, including, but not limited to the fun part of it - Sandra Flittard, Ambassador of the Federation, along with her personal assistant Carolin, whom she had also happened to give birth to. However, both ladies, dark blonde and green-eyed, were mostly thought to be sisters, rather than mother and daughter, for Sandra looked quite a bit younger than she was.
And it wasn't their first time they went abroad to congratulate new ruling monarchs - three years ago, they had visited the Principality of Shikonjima, attending the introduction of Prince Yoshifuni Tamori to his new important job - running the County of Miyuki.
The awfully long flight from Lysköping to Caloris and the train ride to Landsbruck would definitely pay off. It would be a wonderful evening!
The security detail received three friendly nods, then, it went on, to the front doors, where two well-known ladies in Geansai were already being welcomed by the Duke's two younger siblings, one of them obviously being an expert on football rather than on diplomatic etiquette.
It was no surprise to meet Selkie around these parts, considering, that the Free Lands were one of the friends the Empire shared with the Federation.
Marquardt grinned, as Eugene was obviously still lost in his football facts, but greeted, bowing his head lightly and said, "Joode Ovend!", Good evening! in the Rhenish variant of German, then continued in English, "It's an honor for us to be here tonight."
Sandra and Carolin bowed their heads as well.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

"Oh..." He said coming back to attention at his sister's prodding. "So I was just saying to the Selkie people here, we can take you to meet our older brother and his wife or you can have some fine food and drink, or dance even!"

"Yeah really, whatever ya want, I think sis is just trying to keep us busy by giving us chores to do." Eugene shrugged.

"Hush, Mayuki has lots to do and the staff do too to keep the place warm, people fed and all sorts of stuff! We were told to be on our best behavior by mommy and daddy too."

"Right right. So hey yer call!"

Landsbruck, Empire of Kuronami.

When we entered, the well-oiled machine was putting on the last touches and working on the last things, with the host and the hostess - and persons to celebrate tonight - already on stage. I spotted Empress Ortfine not too far away, directing two children towards us.
Rona and Eugene, the younger siblings of the newly minted Duke and of Empress Ortfine.
Yet, the lightning-fast introductions and speaking of both could only be of children - and where we would have reacted offended to "Ya know, you two kind of dress funny." from Eugene, both Ava and I could not help but smile at that from the boy's mouth, especially after his sister shot him down quite effectively.
He began to ramble facts about football and Rona offered us to lead you in, as...

Friendly and good faces, a good start for the evening.
We both bowed our heads lightly to them, returned the greeting, then turned back to Rona and Eugene.
"It is our pleasure to be here, Princess.", I said and bowed my head to her, which caused an interesting bit of movement on my upper torso... maybe Eugene would find that more interesting then Rona? Who knew... In any case. "I would propose, that you please take us to take care of the boring diplomatic formalities with our friends from Lillorainen and your big brother..." I motioned to the three. Of course I would recognize my colleague Marquardt. "...and then, I believe, we all could use something to drink."
Preferably non-alcoholic. Those two looked too young for anything else, especially Rona, who was almost too cute to handle!
"And maybe we can compare Markel's achievements to some from players of the Sraith at the buffet, Eugene.", Ava said to the young man, offering her arm for him to link.
I knew enough grown men, who would kill for such an opportunity.

[...]...the Lillos arrived.[...]

It was too amusing to see, how Rona was effectively the commander amongst the two of them - nothing that surprised anyone amongst the Lillos, especially not the female two thirds of them.
Marquardt nodded.
"I agree" - he said, "let's get the whole formality shebang behind us, and then get something to drink. I only had that tomato juice on the plane, and if you don't spice it up more, it will be effectively tasteless at ten thousand meters of altitude."
"At least it doesn't make your belly expand" - Carolin said, with a skeptical glance on her waist. "Unlike this sugar bomb we call lemonade."
"As if you needed to watch it" - Marquardt said, then turned to Eugene. "Markel might also like being challenged by some of our best players from the FC Pontrath or the FC Lillöer Lysköping, don't you think, Prince?"
"Why don't we have something like the Champions' League yet ...?" - Sandra wondered. "The best teams from our countries running against each other in a tournament. We do have that with some of our neighbors ..."
"Can't be more of a shame than the last World Cup ..." - Marquardt murmured.

Eugene still pretty young for girls probably wasn't quite aware where sometimes his eyes were drawn to the Selkie women in particular. He quietly stopped listing off fun stats he knew and quietly let Rona do much of the talking. Seemed all the Von Eylstadt women were real socialites while the men kept a quiet demeanor. But he spoke up when the women made their requests known. "S-sure we can take you to bro. Right this way!" he offered with a grin and his cheeks now glowing a little red.

Rona was on the tips of her feet by now with excitement and joy. "Great great we have plenty of good drinks. Lemon water, lime water, hot freshly brewed tea, coffee for those who might not want the adult drinks."

Eugene also perked when more talk of his favorite sport came up "Markel is the best player on the Landsbruck Falcons! Actually I play for the Falcons too but we're a kids league and we named our team after them because they're the best of Kuronami's teams! But there's lots of good teams too ya know, there's the Mazomban Tigers they hold their own pretty well."

The two siblings lead them to their older brother and his wife. "shhh." Rona quieted Eugene down.

"Rona, Eugene," their brother said with a smile "Seems you were kind enough to lead our first guests to us, thank you."

"No prob!" they both said. "We'll go save you folks some tea!" Rona winked at them, then took her brother along back to the table to do as promised. Ben chuckled a bit and Cecelia too hid a giggle of the two being so adorable and full of energy. "I see you had the pleasure of meeting my two little siblings, I'm sure they talked your ears off now."

Cecelia nodded "Thank you for coming this way to see us and enjoy the party. Well you two must be Selkie, I'm assuming based on your dress, unless I'm wrong and your AHSCAians? " She also turned her smile to the guests of Lilorainen "A good evening to you, how lucky to have two sets of guests at once, save us from an unbearably long que to worry about. I'm Cecelia and Benny - or rather Benedict is my husband. Though I suppose you'd know that if you're here to see us after all!"

Ava smiled at Eugene, neither of us bothered about where his eyes were. He was a boy, after all, round things were important for him! Fun aside, he would become a good man, maybe a quiet one when compared with Rona, but a good man.
"Later, I'll tell you of Scilly Aoireigh, my favourite club.", Ava promised Eugene with a smile.
I couldn't help but add in from the side: "How they managed to stay in Sraith A and not be demoted to Sraith B.", I said and grinned, well aware, that Ava glared at me. "Better then FC Rua, I know, they already are in Sraith B..."
And with that, we came towards the Duke and the Duchess.
"The pleasure is ours, Your Majesties.", I said and bowed my head, "And to be honest, the two of them are wonderful children. It is no problem... in fact, Ava invited Prince Eugene to talk her ear off with football."
Ava grinned and nodded, having bowed before herself. "I might be a Sworddancer, but that does not mean, that I don't appreciate football!", she said with a grin.
I cleared my throat. "My apologies, but please allow me to finish the official part.", I asked and then turned to the Duke and the Duchess, bowing my head again. Ava did the same. "In the name of the Council of Elders and of the Fifteen Tribes they represent, I bring greetings, best wishes for the future and messages of good will and friendship from the Elders and the Selkie to the Duke and the Duchess of Eylstadt, friends of our Lands and their People."
I rose from my bow, Ava doing the same, awaiting the reply.

I rose from my bow, Ava doing the same, awaiting the reply.

Marquardt, Sandra, and Carolin grinned along, as they went on, being very sure, that this would not be the last time tonight, that football would be talked about. Also, there would be enough drinks around - including those that were neither alcoholic, nor full of sugar.
They arrived at their hosts, the Duke and the Duchess, bowing their heads lightly, too. The Selkie introduced themselves in the usual formal manner, after a reference to Rona and Eugene talking their ears off. Carolin had nodded at Felicia's statement, adding, "Later, we might explain to him where the best teams come from! As soon as we manage to agree on that issue ourselves, that is."
If glances could kill, Sandra's one to her daughter would have pulverized her at the speed of an RPG fired at a trash can.
Marquardt only grinned.
He awaited their reply to Felicia's introduction, than he would say, "I am ordered - and also pleased, of course - to bring greetings and the best regards to the new Duke and Duchess of Eylstadt, wishing Your Majesties and all people of Eylstadt the brightest future possible, with the bond of friendship between us and our peoples getting stronger than ever, from President Silas Flemming; also in the name of the Meritocratic Council and the Chamber of States, as well as the people of the Federation of Lillorainen. Another bow followed, also by Mrs. Flittard and her Daughter.

"I thank you as well," Cecelia thanked, remaining seated but bowing her head in agreement. "I hope we can also see each other again this evening." The train car from Caloris was a somewhat bumpy ride, but it gave the Anatidorian princes some time to discuss their objectives and to prepare for their reception at Landsbruck. The elder among the pair, but the lesser in noble dignity, glanced out the window at the passing scenery. He was certainly dressed for the occasion, wearing a sharp black suit and matching trousers. Pinned to the jacket was a silver medal bearing the royal badge, a crowned goose. His left hand caressed thoughtlessly a pistol secreted in his coat, while his right hand clutched a write-up from the Ministry of Diplomacy. It was next to worthless. The Ministry knew very little about Kuronami, if their brief was any indication. It was an imperial monarchy, sure. Very helpful. It was more advanced than Anatidor, And which country wasn't, hm? The figure standing by the window crumbled the paper and tossed the brief aside with a shout.

“Bah, they didn't give us any information we couldn't have learned in an hour of being here, ourselves!”

The other figure in the train car gave his companion a level look, watching the wad of paper sail across the room. He was dressed similarly, in a sharp black suit and white bow tie. A pair of rather smart decorations were pinned to the breast of his jacket, one a golden cross set with small emeralds, the other a royal badge. Running diagonally across his torso, and partially obscured by the jacket, was a rather simple green sash. After a moment of silence, he spoke.

“No need to get excited, Graham. People love talking about their homeland at these sorts of things. I'm sure we'll hear all about Kuronami soon enough.”

“I suppose you're right,” came the reply, followed by a soft sigh. “I just want this to go well. The Ministry is very interested in good relations with these people. I'm under a lot of pressure.”

The two young men looked very much alike, enough to be taken for siblings, but they were actually cousins. The elder was Prince Benedict, the first son of the Duke of Dauventroy of the same name, and so preferred to go by his middle name, Graham. The younger was Crown Prince Robert, the 9th and youngest child of King Alexander and Queen Mary. Both were a little taller than average, with fair complexion and short brown hair, and blue eyes. The only really obvious difference between them, aside from the sash, was that Graham sported a rather full beard that made him look some years older than he was, while Robert was clean shaven.

“It will be fine.” Robert said, perhaps a little more firmly than he'd intended. “Trust me.”

The elder prince offered no further argument, but gave his cousin a sour look, before turning his gaze upon a heavy wooden case that sat on a nearby table.

“As I'm sure you know, the communique said not to bring a gift. I hope we don't offend our hosts by ignoring that request.”

Prince Robert said nothing, allowing the rattling of the car to lull him after a few minutes into an unintended sleep. He awoke some time later to some very ungentlemanly shaking.

“Wake up, Prince Moron!” He heard Graham shout, reviving his almost-forgotten childhood nickname.

“We're nearly there. You can carry this stupid thing, since your father insisted we bring it.”

Robert opened his eyes just as his cousin plopped the heavy case onto his lap. With irritation, he shoved it back and rose to his feet.

“No, you carry it.” He replied, straightening his hair with his hands. “I'm the Crown Prince, you're pulling double-duty as my manservant.”

Graham looked like he wanted to argue the point, but thought better of it. He mumbled some obscenity under his breath and took hold of the case. It was rather heavier than it looked, being made of finely carved wood and ornamented with silver latches and hinges. The top displayed a miniature of the Wedding at Cana, painted in vivid colors. With his offering in hand, he followed his kinsman out of the now-stopped train car and stepped into the gathering dusk. Before the pair was a rather striking manor house. Their eyes still adjusting to the dim light, neither saw any obvious direction in which to proceed.

“Do you think it would be rude to, uh, just walk through the front door?” Robert asked vaguely.

We received the reply and corresponding best wishes with gratitude and would make sure to bring them back home. At the wedding anecdote, we had to smile - he sounded exactly like a Selkie-Lad in a similar situation.
"I hope so as well.", I told the Duchess in reply, "We will see each other later."
And with that, we made the field free for the Lillos, glad to have brought the formalities behind us. Marquardt expressed similar sentiments, but I did not listen to it completely.
Much rather, I turned to Ava.
"So, let's meet the twins.", I said, "You will still talk shop with Prince Eugene?"
Ava nodded. "Sure. Hardly a better topic for a good cuppa!", she said with a wide smile.
I showed a small smile of my own and turned forward, towards the buffet, where Rona and Eugene were indeed already waiting with cuppas of tea.
"Hello, again, you two!", I said and joined them, smiling. I took a cup from the two. "Thank you... that one smells very good! Herbal tea?"
Ava, meanwhile, made good on her promise to Eugene, smiling at him. "I think, we were at Markel's exploits of 34 goals in fifty games...", she said, honestly interested, "...and at the Landsbruck Falcons' dominating position this season?"

The Lillorainian delegation received an answer similar to the Selkie-one, with the addition, that they were very likely to meet Ortfine and Carpathia when roaming around, who would surely be thankful for their wishes as well.
Marquardt nodded. "As soon as we meet them, we'll be glad to give them our greetings as well, Duchess!" - he told Cecelia. "And be sure, that your wishes will arrive back home, too, and we will all be thankful for them! I assume, we will certainly meet again later this evening, right?"
While Marquardt and Mrs. Flittard entered the room slowly, to see, if Cecelia's sisters-in-law were indeed roaming around somewhere in here, and to themselves something to drink, the young whippersnapper, who happened to be Sandra's daughter, had already gotten herself a cuppa - of course, she would remain available in case her immediate presence would be required, but as long as this was not the case yet, the 20-year-old had also her own diplomatic mission in here.
Sandra had to grin and whispered something to Marquardt in German. The Foreign Minister grinned, too, and shrugged.
As her Mam and Marquardt had only managed like half the way to the buffett, Carolin had already joined the Selkie-Delegation, who, as they had promised to Rona and, especially Eugene, to have a good shop talk on the lovely game that bound people together and tore them apart the same time.
"I think I've heard something along these lines as well!" - she said, grinning. "So, Markel is the 'man of the match' fairly often, I take? Although I do tend to think, that there are ten others on the field as well - how big is the difference between Markel's strength and the one of the others?"

Anatidor wrote:The train car from Caloris was a somewhat bumpy ride, but it gave the Anatidorian princes some time to discuss their objectives and to prepare for their reception at Landsbruck.

Most of the nation's lords and ladies had paid their respects the evening before, but there were the stragglers who could only send their written responses or in this case, show up to the second party. Nothing wrong with it, every Domain had it's priorities and issues to work on. In this case Zen Westeria, the younger brother of the Duke of Clarines (sometimes Governor, the titles often swapped around interchangeably) arrived with his date on his arm. Brina A lovely young lady with apple red hair and a bright smile. Zen probably would have attended with his brother last night but his girlfriend so to speak was a commoner. Not strictly against the rules or anything, just unusual perhaps. Rather than endure gossip and whispers among the various Lords, Ladies, Counts and Countesses who showed the prior evening, he decided to blend in with the foreign guests and pay his respects to the new Duke and Duchess tonight rather than have to stand at his brother's side. Plus it meant he could be with Brina more than his brother. That was already better.

"Easy does it. You could have wore whatever...." He guided Brina whom was in heels along the path, though well shoveled and kept from snow and ice still one had to be careful.

"Wear boots to a royal occasion? Come on, I may be common but I do not lack in manners, Zen."

"Fair enough." he still made sure she could move in her heels. She was for sure dressed for the occasion in a stunning ball gown that no doubt might have cost her a pretty Kronor. She made decent money as an herbalist but still it had to be a good month's salary for her.

Walking up to the door there were a few guests lingering at the door, seeming a bit confused if they should enter now. Brina spoke up to grab their attention, "I wouldn't stand out here in this weather for too long, you'll catch your death of cold. Come on inside now."

she urged them to come along with them.

"Here to see the new Duke and Duchess I imagine." Zen spoke "We are as well. So just follow us and you'll be right at their stage in no time."

Rona and Eugene had been chatting with each other while they awaited the Selkie and Lillo guests to return to them. As promised they saved them cups of freshly brewed tea. "Here ya go!" Rona offered cups each "Brewed to perfection by the kitchen staff!"

Their Maid Servant, Maiyuki set down a tray of fresh food and refreshed the ice for the chilled dishes.

"Hey, Mayuki," Rona asked "Are all the teas herbal?"

"Some are, Young Miss. Others are standard teas but all are quite beneficial and good to drink on a chilled evening such as this."

They both nodded and Eugene returned to talking the sport of kings. "He sure is! Best player on the team! I actually have a ball he autographed for me in my room. Well I had two but I played with one and the signature faded so he was nice enough to sign another one for me so that one I keep safe but I still play with the other one he gave me just now the sig is all smoshed and blurry but oh well that's what it's for after all! Now Markel he started after he finished his tour with the Army which is where he actually picked the sport up! He just had such natural talent the Falcons signed him nearly right away! He's so cool and so fast you can hardly keep up with him when watching on TV, gotta see him in person! Now the rest of the Falcons are all pretty good too, don't get me wrong! The Falcons are always top notch when it comes to all pro clubs around Kuronami!"

"Hehe The Falcons are really good. But I really like the Mazomban Tigers and Mazomban Bangles myself." Rona responded adding her own opinions "For me, my MVP star is Blanka Ĉielo she plays the tigers. She's tall, tanned and really pretty looking but she's a real kicker. Not quite the goal count as Markel but the Tigers are just as ferocious as their name says, rrrar! The Bangles are a newer team and haven't gone very far but I like the underdogs! Sheila Pungo thinks so too, she switched from The Eylstadt Soccer Association to the Mazomban Bangles because like me, she thinks the team is destined for greatness"

"Sure sure but also helps she married their team owner."

"And so what if she did? My point is still the same."

"No amount of connections makes up for skill or talent.", Ava agreed with Rona and I nodded as well. That was true - skill and talent separated people from those with it and those without, especially in competitive sports such as football. "As mentioned, my favourite Club is the Scilly Aoireigh. I am from Scilly myself, so its sort-of logical, that I would cheer for them. My personal MVP is Finnegan Cuaille of the Tribe of Monaghan, he's the Goalkeeper of Scilly and the reserve goalkeeper of the Foireann."
"That's our national football team.", I interjected from the side, nodding to Ava.
"Indeed, that it is.", she said, "But he's also a good example for a football team being a team. The best goalkeeper in the world, and I am sure, that Finny is among them, is without any use without a good defense. And as Scilly's Defense as of late sucks..."
I nodded.
The state of Scilly's Defense was not exactly a moral high point for their fans.

The two princes stood about for a space, as frozen from indecision as from the frigid weather. They were vaguely aware that they probably made something of a farcical sight: Two well-dressed noblemen of good breeding and, apparently, of at least average intelligence, milling around like children too afraid to enter a school dance. Eventually they heard a voice, and then another, calling toward them. The Anatadorians both turned their gaze to the pair addressing them, and summoned all of their formidable training in courtly manners to avoid staring at the lady's lovely form. Robert took the initiative, and brought his right hand across his chest, offering Zen and Brina a curt half-bow. Straightening back up, he spoke with a smile.

"Ah, a pleasure!" He called back to them brightly, "I am Robert Biscos-Hamor, Crown Prince of Anatidor. My companion-"

"is very much freezing to death." Graham interrupted, with a soft chuckle. "They are right, cousin. It is very cold out here. Let is dispense with the formalities, for now."

The elder prince glanced to their would-be guides.

"My name is Graham, and I am glad to make your acquaintance. But please, do lead the way."

The state of Scilly's Defense was not exactly a moral high point for their fans.

Carolin had listened, nodding along, for this was quite an interesting thing to debate on - especially due to the different perspectives, as on the one hand, one would hear Eugene's opinion as a fan of the Landsbruck Falcons, pretty much Kuronami's FC Pontrath, and on the other hand, Ava's perspective as a fan of Scilly Aoireigh, a rather struggling team, particularly due to its issues with the defense, a bit like the Steenstrup BK.
She had a sip of her tea, a herbal one, then said, "Absolutely - if the defense sucks, even a goalkeeper like Cuaille won't help a lot. I think this is the reason why the FC Pontrath failed to become champion of our Federal League last season. I mean, they have Oskar Nevenich in the box, who is also goalkeeper of our national team, but if some of the best defenders leave the team, and you fail to get proper successors for them, you can hardly wonder, if suddenly Lillöer Lysköping catches these three points leading to their championship. This also means, that even the FC Pontrath, which got champion in 14 seasons out of the 35 ones since the founding of the Federal League, can be beaten. A victory is never a self-runner, and if you forget that, you may suffer humiliating losses - like the 5:1 loss against Jillich, the archrival from the neighboring city. Or the 7:2 against ZZ Kirajevo, normally a rather average team, now having won with they best score in their history - against Pontrath of all teams."
She let a beat pass.
"I'm not a fan of the Effzeh, though" - she continued, "I root for Storöer Leewerder. That's a team we call an 'elevator team' - which means, that they don't persistently play in one league for a longer time, but go down to the Second and up to the First League every few seasons. In the last season, they had another Second League break, now they won the relegation playoffs against Saskilde - with more luck than brains, I might add. Although I'm surprised, that Rathenia Roisweiler, who normally just closely manage to stay in the First League, managed to achieve the 10th place eventually. It was a weird season, lemme tell ya that."
Practically without being noticed, Marquardt and Sandra had joined their round with a cuppa each. They simply listened, not wanting to interrupt anyone.

Landsbruck, Empire of Kuronami -- Professor Johani Linna
Johani Linna could not believe that he had the honor to be on this ball. It was a ball, which was actually intended for nobles and he was not one of them. In his homeland of Draycora, all the blue blood was washed away in the 1920s with just one law. Nobility titles were given only in connection with political offices and remained only in this context.

Well, the intellectuals have probably replaced the nobility as a class and that was Johani well. In any case, according to his definition and his definition had weighting. In the 1980s Johani wrote a book in which he described the Elvish class system, which left a strong mark on his home society and made him famous at home and abroad. Otherwise, the sociologist had nothing noble about him. He was a professor of sociology at the Adam Smith University of Smeralda, arguably the most prestigious university in his country. But, he thought that would not mean anything.

Anyway, it will probably be his reason why he may be here. He enjoyed it anyway, never in his life was he so far away from his principality. He was so far away that even the weather was crazy.
"A blanket of snow in the summer," he mumbled into his beard as he made his way down the path from the gate to the entrance and stopped in his tracks. "That's adventurous". He went on.

The sociologist was dressed as he lectured: a gray suit jacket and suit trousers. Under the jacket he wore a wine-red vest from whose collar you can see the tie. His shoulder-length, gray hair he had tied into a braid, which made his face look unusually narrow, while he was not so thin. He propped himself up with a walking stick. On the one hand, because his legs were really weak, on the other, this was a symbol of elegance in Draycora. The Elvish prince always wore a walking stick when he was traveling, and he saw his students, as well as other professors, with such things. Although he could not stand the colorful, glittering costumes that intellectuals nowadays wore.

Johani reached the entrance and entered the building.

Eugene nodded rather coming to the understanding they had a pretty solid point about talent and skill over connection. "I think I'll have to watch some games from you folks! See what you're all about! Bet Rona would like to too"

"Yeah it would be fun to see something from a international team!"

"Mmmm defense slacking huh? Ya know whenever our team roster begins to get a little down, coach has us rotate around to refresh us kind of. Like I'm usually wing but sometimes I play goal or defensive. It seems to really kind of give us vigor and we're back to playing like the pros in no-time!"

Anatidor wrote:The two princes stood about for a space, as frozen from indecision as from the frigid weather.

"Sure sure. Oh I'm Zen, its a pleasure to meet you, Prince."

"And I'm Brina, his date this evening. Well I agree, great pleasure to meet you, Milords." They led them along inside "First time to Kuronami?"

Letting them give their response first they allowed them to step ahead to greet the new Duke and Duchess.

Draycora wrote:Landsbruck, Empire of Kuronami -- Professor Johani Linna

Mister Contri, the Duke's own personal valet had been standing at the door now that the two twins were lost in conversation with some of the guests. Welcoming the latest arrivals, "Master Zen, and Miss Valenia, good to see you both again, go on right ahead." Before he could shut the door another guest arrived. "Good evening, Sir." He wished. "Welcome to the party this evening. Food is available if you're hungry or if you'd rather see His and Her Grace you can line yourself right there."

Malcolm grabbed the wool of his bagpipe as the limousine hummed by, it's sound not being reflective of his excited face. His spouse, Emily, sat beside him on his right, putting up a relaxed face as she gazed at the camera-like window at the driver's seat. Their 15-year-old son, Archie, sits across from his dad, slumped to the window on his right and looked as if denying himself to see a bad television show. Their 8-year-old daughter, Alice, is sitting on the left of Archie and right of Emily, playing on her mother's phone and not possessing a single ounce of care.

"Dad, did you have to bring the pipes," asked Archie.

"What's the matter, son," replied Archie, "not a fan of musical introductions," he then chuckled.

"You've been practicin' almost every day, dad. Not to mention you still sound like a sick bird."

"Dinnon worry, son. I got this. Just watch."

Archie sighs, and mutters disapprovingly.

"I'll bet you'll be bonnie good, dear," his wife encouraged, rubbing her husband's hands with her smooth skinned fingers.

"Thank you, hen. I'll do good. I swear."

As Malcolm put on a grin of confidence, Archie simply turned to the window.

"Do you think there will be pure class food up there," asked Alice.

"I'm sure there will be, wee Alice," Malcolm replied, "This is the inauguration of the new Duke and Duchess of Eylstadt after all."

As the limousine pulled into a stop, Malcolm held his bagpipe like a mother with a new born child as he walked onto the pavement and faced the facade of the building. In the family's remarkable display of formal clothing, they sauntered to the entrance to meet up with the security group up front.

The two Anatidorians followed after Zen and Brina into the mansion, nodding amicably.

"Yes." they both said together. Graham continued. "As a matter of fact, I don't think I've never been south of the Equator before. It is a lovely country, I must say. Quite enchanting."

He sounded sincere enough, no doubt, but in truth the Lord of Dauventroy had been so absorbed by anxiety over his diplomatic mission that he had scarcely taken any notice of the local sights. If quizzed by a on the subject by a local, he was quite certain he could name no notable landmark he had passed by up to this point. The mansion he just entered, however, proved a rather more arresting vision. He stared for a brief moment, taking in the architecture and the crowd of people contained by it. Regaining his wits, he began scanning the crowd for the new Duke and Duchess, hoping to get the formalities out of the way so he could fetch himself a drink.

Ava nodded at Eugene's suggestion.
"Marcach sometimes do that, too, changing their type of competition for a change in scenery to clear their heads.", she explained, smiled, "Though I guess, that for a professional football team, that's a bit more complicated... after all, each player is a specialist in his or her position."
I nodded as well. "Though a bit of versatility never hurt anyone."
Ava took a moment to consider the point. "Not untrue, but still... as said, it's complicated.", she said, "Though as for forming an international team, I haven't heard about that, but what I did hear about was, that some people within the Strategic and Economic Alliance consider making a league of the Champions of the respective leagues. Though I haven't heard many specifics..."

Maybe the Lillos knew more?

The possible forming of an international team or league became a topic again, and indeed, the Lillos did remember this, along with other important issues, being considered at some point or the other, when it had come to thoughts about a closer cooperation between the SEA Member States. Though, they didn't recall a lot of details being debated on as of yet.
Now, it was Carolin's Mam who spoke up.
"Indeed, it has already been considered for the Strategic and Economic Alliance" - Sandra began, "but unless I've missed some important update, there haven't really been many details discussed on yet, for it's already very complicated - especially considering, that not all member states follow the same standards. For instance, in Ru, they don't play the classical eleven-versus-eleven mode - a particularity that, of course, doesn't make such a formation of an international league easier."
"What I do know, though" - Carolin spoke up again, "is that we, in Lillorainen, already started such a thing on a very small scale with some states; we've started off with a cooperation with Shamsiyya and their national league more than ten years ago, and while Shikonjima and the United Confederacy aren't SEA-Members, they followed joining our cooperation on the football field in the last few years as well. A small Champion's League, that's for sure, but there's always room to expand."
"It would just require a lot of cooperation and coordination, of course" - Marquardt added.

The doors of the vehicle were opened by any member of the guards stationed at the entrance and around the grounds. Bidding the new arrivals good evening and gesturing the door.

The doors were opened by various maid staff, someone had spotted the young Prince and Princess being the welcoming service, even if it was their sister's instance it was very improper. Well even so, Rona and Eugene were so tied up with the Selkies and Lillos they'd kind of stopped being an answering service.

"Good evening." They bid the new guests. "Welcome to the Mansion and welcome to Landsbruck. Please, The Duke and Duchess are eager to meet all their new arrivals so if you feel ready to engage go right ahead and approach at the stage at the end of the room there. But if you're hungry there is plenty of good food and drink ready for you. Oh and do watch your step, we have a young maiden who is fairly short in stature working with us this evening. Mind that you don't bump into her. But if you have needs, simply ask any staff and we shall help you."

"Ah first time this far under huh?" Brina said with a grin "So hope you prepared for winter when you came and this winter has been especially harsh."

"Harsh indeed. But it's nearly spring. Here, looks like The Duchess is present and ready." They walked the short walk across the ballroom to the other end where the stage sat the Duchess perched on the throne. The Duke was absent for the moment, needing just a quick break.

Cecelia acknowledged the familiar Zen first. "Why, Young Prince, what a lovely surprise! I had figured you'd come with your elder brother last evening but glad you made it out. And oh my!" She turned her gaze at the other arrivals "My oh my, forgive my lack of manners, new guests should be welcomed to our lands. Welcome!"

The Duke did return to his wife's side at last. "Oh, some of the latest. Good evening, Sirs."

"Ah great coaches think alike eh? Well I guess so, pro-teams have a lot more riding on them be odd to rotate out but I don't know...Just seems better than cutting or benching players. After all a team is supposed to play as one. But ah I guess at 8 I only know so much!" he shrugged with a smile.

"Sounds kind of complicated but good luck!" Rona wished them.

Lotte the young handmaiden arrived two plates of tasty treats for Rona and Eugene. "Hello, Lotte!" Rona bid her a friendly greeting.

"Good evening, Young Miss, Young Master, you two behaving yourselves?"

"We are." They both said in unison.

"Very good. Well I know parties like these can be a bit dull for you but keeping your manners is earns a reward. So I saved something for the both of you. For you, Rona, fresh carrot cake."

"Yay!"

"And for you, Eugene, some strawberry pie!"

"Wow thank you! Thank you Lotte."

Lotte turned her attention to the Selkie and Lillos "Perhaps I can acquire all of you something special? For keeping the Young Master and Miss Entertained and well as a gesture from Milady to you."

"Lotte," Rona explained "Is my the maiden of my big sis!"

"Mhm short as she looks though she's strong."

Lotte chortled "Thank you, Young Master."
