Ó hAnnáin: Copa knockouts "within our grasp"
The Warriors prepare for the all-important match against Juznia to continue their Romellean rollercoaster

3 July 2019, 21:00 / Aonġus Ó Grialais

The team celebrates after a stunning 2-1 upset victory against Qal'eh.
Preparations for the Mardin Isles' final group stage match against Juznia are in full swing, with manager Laċtna Ó hAnnáin commenting that the knockout stage of the competition is "within our grasp".

The 43 year-old, who has led the team since 2015, was speaking ahead of the Warriors' final match against Juznia at the Primorski Stadium in Balchik on Thursday. It follows an extraordinary circle of events which saw the team hammered by reigning champions Navack 5-0, yet bouncing back to stun the formidable favourites from Qal'eh 2-1. As it stands, the Mardin Isles are in third place in Group E with 3 points, level with Qal'eh although with the latter heading in with a significant advantage on goal difference. The outcome of both final matches will be crucial in determining who advances and who will be flying home early.

"We were ruled as down and out after our first match," Ó hAnnáin commented. "Our aim was to defend as much as possible, to try and pull at least a point from that game. We weren't very successful, but I still believed in the boys". It seemed like he may have been the only one at that stage to believe in his own leadership skills, let alone the team. Following the disastrous showing, Mardic fans vented their anger. The hashtag "#ÓhAnnáinAmaċ", literally translated as 'Ó hAnnáin out", became a trending topic across social media. Reports surfaced in the days that followed of similar sentiments in the boardroom of the CPIM, the Mardic football association. Ó hAnnáin acknowledged that there was a lot of pressure being placed upon him. "I knew we had to prove them wrong, and we turned the tables."

Indeed they did. Changes were made to the Starting XI, most notably swapping out Oḋrán Ó Nearaiġ for 18 year-old wonder kid Aoḋan Ó Ruairc, who had captained the Mardic team to the quarter-finals of the U17 Copa last year. The defense was also altered, with Aoḋ Mac Ḋonnċa subbed for 23 year-old Seán Mac Íosóg. These changes, in part, helped spur on the team to take control of the game against Qal'eh. The Warriors dominated the first half, confidently keeping possession and putting pressure on the Sifhari side. A Mardic corner produced the first goal thanks to a header from Cormac Mac Conmara, followed nineteen minutes later by a smashing header from Ruaiḋrí Ó Coille, assisted by captain Art Ó Dála. The boys in white and green kept up the pace, feeling energized by the healthy lead. An 82nd minute concession to Gankhaki may have been the start of a Qalehi comeback, but it wasn't to be. As the final whistle sounded, the Warriors celebrated a thrilling, crucial victory which kept their Copa hopes alive.

Looking ahead to their final bout against Juznia on Thursday, Ó hAnnáin dismissed talk that his team should expect a victory. "The Juznians are a very strong team, one only needs to look at how they played against Navack", he said. He noted the similarities between the two sides' first scorelines, and how it would be a competitive match. "Both of our teams have been put against the mightiest of teams. On our first matches, we were punctured. In our second matches, we held up in our own ways. I think it will be a fascinating match, but we can go out there and win it. I have faith in my lads".

It won't just be a victory against the white and blue which would secure the Isles a place in the final 16. Qal'eh's decisive match against Navack takes place on Monday, from which the outcome will determine the fate of the Warriors. A win against Juznia and a Qalehi loss or draw would see the Mardin Isles advance. Two sets of draws would see Qal'eh advance, thanks to their upper hand in goal difference. However, Ó hAnnáin insists his team is not concerned about possibilities, but rather on the so-called "Battle of Balchik", as dubbed by Mardic media. "We are not focusing on the maybes of what happens in the other game. We are focused on winning our game, nothing else."

CRUISE SHIP SEIZED BY ARAMASIAN PIRATES
Disgruntled mercenaries seize passenger liner near Atlantic Channel, demand Đ10 million ransom for release of captives

Image
The King Gildas cruise liner set off from Vaenholm 30 days ago, bound for Aljuá. Its current location is unknown
ARABEKH - A Newreyan Cruise liner named the 'King Gildas' has allegedly been seized by Aramasian pirates on its journey from the Glanish capital of Vaenholm to Aljuá in Vidoria. The vessel was due to sail from Lhedwin through the straight of Troping, into the Atlantic canal and down to the Rennekkan coast, making a number of stops along the way. However, somewhere within the southern Atlantic Channel, the ship issued a distress call. Several minutes later a new transmission was released stating that the ship had been seized with hostages on board. The perpetrators then demanded a ransom of Đ10 million for the release of their captives. However, when patrol ships zeroed in on the location of the transmission, the King Gildas was not there. The location of the ship currently remains a mystery.

It is unknown exactly how the ship was seized near one of the busiest shipping lanes in Aeia, though it has been suggested that the perpetrators tailed the ship until it reached a quieter area. Within their radio message, the pirates identified themselves as part of the notorious 'Black Rose' mercenary group which had been deployed alongside government forces during the Aramas Civil War. Recent reports have suggested that the group had become disgruntled with their lack of pay and the stalemate in the Abjad mountains, leading them to defect. The Aramasian government has not commented on the situation.

The status of the crew and passengers aboard is unknown. It is believed that Newreyan Captain Taft Edwards issued the original distress call, though nothing has been heard from him since. Aboard the ship are believed to be a multinational crew and passengers from nations such as Juznia, Crylante, Glanodel, Crethia, Navack, Cuirpthe and tir Lhaeraidd among others. Additionally, a notable Qal'eh businessman was believed to have been aboard the ship at the time with his Sifhari entourage. A number of governments have issues declarations that they will do everything they can to get their citizens back, however few concrete plans have surfaced as to how this will happen.

We will have more on this story as it unfolds...

GAILIS: JUZNIA WILL "FACE CONSEQUENCES" IF IT DOES NOT FIX ITSELF

July 26, 2019

Image
Gailis in Pekrasta as the 71st Congress convenes

Pekrasta, PR Hytekia - Gailis today delivered a powerful speech that will possibly set the precedence for relations on the eastern side of the Gulf as he warned Juznia that they will "face consequences" if the government makes no clear effort to fix itself and keep its people in line.

The statement comes after Gailis and the HKP called the 71st Congress into the Valstsistaba in Pekrasta following the murder of three Hyteks in Krasno by a radical Juznik nationalist and the murder of five more, all of whom schoolchildren, in a likely racially-motivated attack in a Hytek-majority town near the border in June. Gailis made it especially clear that the government of Hytekia is "not afraid" to deal with the matter in more forceful matters, and refused to comment when asked if a war in the future was off the table.

The motives for Gailis' outrage at the Juznik government are certainly there, but it is the first time relations between the two have escalated into open diplomatic warfare for almost 25 years - since the Second Grobina War ended. Gailis' contemporaries have applauded him for not backing down from the situation and displaying Hytekia's strength and unwillingness to concede, but political enemies of Gailis have stated that the speech is merely an excuse to try an escalate relations into open conflict to restore Hytek control over Juznia, a still controversial topic within the ranks of the National Assembly.

Gailis is expected to attend a military parade in Krasno tomorrow as a flaunting of Hytekia's power following the speech, albeit the parade is annually scheduled for July 27 for Army Day. There has been no official response from the government of Juznia as of yet, but their decisions on how to handle the situation could sculpt the face of the two nations for years to come.

"DAY OF RETRIBUTION": FAR-RIGHT JUZNIK NATIONALISTS DESTROY HYTEK HOMES AND BUSINESSES FOLLOWING HYTEKIAN PRESIDENTS' REMARKS

Image
A burning Hytek home in Laukapė.

Following comments made yesterday by the President of Hytekia, Romass Gailis, there was anger among all Juzniks both at home and abroad. As the 30th anniversary of Juznik independence nears there has been increasing tensions between the Juznik majority and the Hytek minority inside Juznia with the murder of 5 Hytek schoolchildren a few weeks ago uniting the two communities in the face of a tragedy. However, it appears that now this fragile unity has been shattered by the latest comments out of Pekrasta with far-right nationalists torching Hytek homes and businesses in act of revenge.

Prime Minister Ričardas Petrauskas, a veteran of the War of Liberation, reacted with fury saying that "Mr Gailis says that we will 'face consequences' and that he is 'not afraid' of us, he severely underestimates the strength and will of the Juznik people. If the corrupt, brutal, dictatorial regime dares lay a hand on our land then they will be the ones to face consequences. They will be running away scared just as they were in 1989. Hytekojuznia was a failed project just like the Communist regime in Pekrasta. We, the Juznik men and women, will show them what there is to be afraid of. The Hyteks are an enemy from within and an enemy from the outside. They must be put in their place."

Prime Minister Petrauskas' angry response only helped to fan the flames with far-right groups affiliated to his party attacking the Hytek minority communities in Višnevas, Laukapė, Purvėnai, Laižuva and elsewhere across Juznia. Reports from inside Juznia suggest that in one particularly disgusting event a home was burnt down with a Hytek family inside and that screams could be heard as the family was killed in the flames. Despite the anger at comments among most Juzniks it's hard to see them rationalising the violence undertaken in response. The Government offered no sympathies and no support to the communities harmed by their own violent affiliates.

Whilst we here at Dabar normally try to remain impartial in our reporting of events relating to our homeland and our people at this time we implore all our readers to make sure that they and their family and friends in Juznia help to end this conflict. We must act as an example to the world and to not respond to Hytekia's provocations with violence but by showing our commitment to the Juznik nation in a peaceful way. We applaud those Juzniks who chose to help their Hytek brothers and we also applaud the efforts of the Alydian Churches that took in Hyteks who have had their homes taken from them. The only way forward is to act with sympathy and unite the Juznik and Hytek communities. This can be balanced with preserving the Hytek culture and language and it should be balanced this way.

President fires Premier Krol following allegations of Funding the "Day of Retribution Attacks" in Juznia: Installs Ebbe Bosch as new Premier

28 July 2019
Image
Ebbe Boch is set to become Kustlan's new Premier and first Majulo-Kustlandic Premier

Lekkum, Kustlân Longstanding Premier Freek Krol has been fired by President Fortuin early this morning following a release of papers to the CDN that Kustlan was involved in the massacre of Hyteks in Juznia. Krol who has been serving as Premier since the “Democratic Rally for Kustland’s” landslide election victory in the 2010 Snap election was implicated as fully aware of the events transpiring in Juznia and did nothing to stop them.

President Fortuin said in a Press Conference earlier this morning stated Krol would not be given any immunity from Prosecution and Kustlan would accept requests to have him Trialled at an International Court. The unprecedented move came as shocking to many as Krol’s approval rating stood at 53% before his firing.

Krol’s replacement, Ebbe Bosch the charismatic leader of the opposition is expected to be sworn in during a private ceremony at the Presidential Residence later today with Krol expected to resign as leader of the DRK to make way for a leadership contest.

In a message to KCBS the Hytek Government Responded to a question by a KCBS reporter stating that: “I am happy to hear that the government of Kustlan is taking sufficient measures to combat the dire state of some parties’ internal funding. The firing of Freek Krol is entirely justified and the government of Hytekia support the Kustlandic government in this measure. However, it is regrettable that the Minskenfrijheid are still allowed to retain their seats in the government. We suggest that the party be removed from all government duty. After further discussion with the Hytek government on these matters, we outlined a list of measures we believe would be appropriate for the government of the Kustlan Federation to take, effective immediately:

Remove the Minskenfrijheid from the government and charge its leaders with corruption and affiliation with gang crime.

Expel Juznik diplomatic staff from the Embassy of the Juznik Republic in Kustlan and recall Kustlandic ambassadors serving in Juznia, and condemn them for their attacks.

Following a hearing by the CDN to determine the severity of the human rights violations, Kustlan will agree to pay partial reperations to those affected by the attacks outsourced by the Minskenfrijheid and Juznik gangs operating within Kustlan with little obstruction.

Issue a public apology to the government of Hytekia for the attacks.

Once these four actions have been achieved reliably and thoroughly, we can assure the Kustlandic government that itself and the government of Hytekia can resume with their cooperation.”

JUZNIKS ACROSS AEIA PROTEST GOVERNMENT AS HYTEK TROOPS BREACH THE DMZ

Image
Anti-government protesters in Višnevas.

Today Juznian citizens living both at home and abroad have been protesting outside of embassies and government buildings across the nation and the rest of Aeia in response to the murders by far-right nationalist "death squads". The protesters are calling on the government of Prime Minister Ričardas Petrauskas to resign or be removed by the President following the murder of a Hytek family of 3 and countless injuries and property damage caused by the "death squads".

Protests have been taking place in Višnevas, Greninga, Laukapė, Purvėnai, Ukmergė and many other towns and cities across Juznia as well as outside embassies in places like Konigsreh in Mascylla. We spoke to Diana Kačinskaitė, a 22 year old Juznik exchange student in Konigsreh, who said that "The government has crossed the line. Encouraging the murder of innocent people including just a 12 year old child, how do they rationalise that? For too long the people of Juznia have been complacent and it is devastating that it has taken this senseless tragedy for people, including myself, to wake up and try to take action. I feel so much regret for being a bystander as the government has tightened it's grip and hurt innocent minorities. They want to live in a free and prosperous Juznia just as much as anyone else and the government is trying to take away their chance. I do not know if I will ever return if that government stays in power."

Furthermore, tensions between Juznia and Hytekia have reached a new level not seen since the Grobina Wars as Hytekian soldiers have now marched into the demilitarised zone on the border. The Hytek government also called up almost 80,000 reserve soldiers to bolster the 250,000 troops they already had in active duty. This has stoked fears in border communities that a new war may be imminent if the Hyteks decide that they would like to attempt to take land along the southern border which has a large Hytek minority. So far the government has not responded with protests and a fear of international backlash meaning that any actions they take will now be more closely scrutinised than any time since they took power in 1998.

Liudvikas Berankis, an expert on the Hytekojuznik conflict and it's consequences, told us that "I [he] fears for the future with war being seen as increasingly likely. And who knows if this time Juznia will have the Liidurians or the Kustlanders to back them up with the clearly false accusations that Kustlan somehow funded the murder of these innocent Hyteks. The operation of Juznik gangs that sprung up after the war in Kustlan is well known but the chances that Kustlan would support those actions is stupid and it's hard to believe the international community would believe that. But in times like these it is hard to know how they will respond. Let us also not forget the rhetoric coming from Pekrasta that began this whole event which seems to me as if they are trying to gain international sympathy for any future actions they take. Protecting the lives of the Hytek minority in a foreign nation could be seen as a worthy cause that foreign powers could back allowing Hytekia free reign to invade Juznia."

So far Prime Minister Petrauskas seems adamant on staying in power but even if he is not forced out by the protests he could be thrown out of office in the elections due to take place later this year. His party is already facing it's lowest opinion polling in years and the arrival of a new liberal movement, which rumours suggest may be in the works, that aims to bolster international relations could cost him his control over the nation.

Breaking: Explosion at Juznik Embassy, 14 Dead and 56 Injured

28 July 2019

Image
Juznik Embassy following explosion during Rush Hour

A major incident has been declared following an explosion in Central Lekkum at the Juznik embassy. At least 14 people have been killed and a further 56 injured whilst 8 are missing. Conflicting reports state that an explosion occurred around half past five during rush hour and collapsed the embassy's underground parking lot.

The Juznik ambassador is among the fatalities along with 9 other Juznik staff members and a Mascyllian driver who was waiting for Mascylla's ambassador in the underground parking lot, the Mascyllian ambassador was taken to hospital where his condition is unknown. Three Kustlandic citizens were also killed in the blast

Newly inaugurated Premier Bosch and President Fortuin issued a brief joint statement in which they did not rule out terrorism and promised an immediate investigation into the deadly blast. Bosch who has been in office less then three hours before the explosion has chaired a meeting with the National Security council to discuss the transpiring events.

"The Explosion at the Juznik embassy in Lekkum has shocked the world. This is the worst explosion in Kustlan's modern history and deadliest. We will be speaking to our foreign counterparts to make sure the situation does not escalate further. We express our sympathy to the victim's families and the wounded in this horrible explosion of which the cause is unknown. We hope that an investigation will begin shortly and bring light to the situation."

The explosion happened just hours after an attack on a Hytek Embassy in Martiriren Herria prompting concerns that terrorism or an act of revenge could have been responsible. "The situation in East Alemannia could spiral into a war if care is not taken." A Kustlandic diplomat was quoted earlier today following Freek Krol's removal from office.

"The explosion is a severe tragedy, horrible for those left behind in this brutal event. However, we will begin attending talks with the nations involved, as our Ambassador has been horribly injured. As of now, our government is open to establish contact with the Kustlan and Juznian governments as soon as possible. Further escalation can not be a viable option after this tragic incident truly coming in a bad time for the region. We send our condolences and prayers to all victims and people who lost and suffered." A quote from a Mascyllian government official.

The names of most of the victims have not been released and their families have been contacted.

One eyewitness claimed the entire street was engulfed in a ball of fire and the interior of the Embassy fell through in parts. Footage of the event was captured by Security Cameras in a Café nearby which show the explosion coming from the second floor in what according to Public knowledge was an office space used by Diplomats.

Emergency services have been working around the clock to rescue trapped people and to put out a fire caused by blast. Windows up to 500 meters away were cracked by the explosion and residents kilometres away reported shaking due to the force of the explosion.

Many Juznik victims were reportedly taking part in an Anti-Government protest at the time of the explosion and footage shows protesters running for their lives and many lying on the ground injured and dead. A masked Protester spoke to a Juznik language news station claiming he thought a Grenade had been thrown into the crowd from the embassy before realising the explosion had occurred inside the building. Theories as to what happen suggest a Juznik Anti-Government Terrorist had planted a bomb in the building.

A NEW FRIENDSHIP EMERGES; VELEAZ AND HYTEKIA INDICATE THEIR INTENTIONS TO BEGIN AN ALLIANCE

July 28, 2019

Image
Gailis (left) speaks with Veleazan foreign minister Camilo Casaus (right) in Jualin

Jualin, Veleaz - President Romass Gailis today met with Veleazan foreign minister Camilo Casaus in Jualin, the capital of the newly-established Veleazan Republic, following the Triskaideka War. They entered the Hytek embassy in Jualin this morning to begin the discussion on the future relationship between the two countries following the sharp escalation of tension in western Alemannia as the Hyteks remilitarise the border-spanning DMZ and Juznia continues to keep quiet on their recent firebombings and killings on the border. The situation has now taken effect outside of Hytekojuznia, however, with an explosion in the Juznik embassy in Kustlan due to a suspected "gas leak" and the brutal attack on the Hytek embassy in Brilliania with a grenade launcher by a rabid Juznik nationalist.

Reports say that Gailis made it clear that he was open to an alliance with the southeastern Asuran nation and would work to achieve that level of cooperation with Veleaz in wake of increased tensions, where alliances become all the more important. The government of Hytekia also issued an ultimatum-of-sorts, however more akin to a few polite requests, to the government of Kustlan which quite clearly resonated throughout the country and caused them to rethink their links with Juznia. The demands entailed the expelling of Juznik embassy staff, reparations, among other things, but the Kustlandic government has indicated that it is in their best interests to retain cooperation with the Hytek government and avoid all-out war in Alemannia.

Hytekia continued to make strong moves as Gailis and Casaus emerged from the Hytek embassy in Jualin together, announcing to reporters of Veleazan news that the government of Veleaz fully intends to support and back the government of Hytekia in any future escalations, and, if needed, a conflict. The two countries have a history of cooperation, with Veleaz being one of the only allies of Hytekia during the Hytekojuznik Civil War in the late-1980s, and it seems that the rebirth of an alliance between the two nations is as good as done.

CRETHIA 'DEEPLY ALARMED' BY TENSIONS IN ALEMANNIA, CALLS FOR DEESCALATION FOLLOWING EMBASSY EXPLOSION

Image
Foreign Secretary Elizabet Angusdoher said the developments threatened peace in Asura.
Donhaven, Crethia - The Crethian government has spoken out against rising tensions between Hytekia and Juznia amid an escalating crisis that Foreign Secretary Elisabet Angusdoher said risked "spiraling out of control". Tensions have flared between the two Alemannic countries, who were once in union with one another, following the murder of several Hyteks by Juznik nationalists. Angusdoher said the return of tensions was "troubling" and expressed concern that the situation had escalated "too rapidly".

Her remarks come after an eventful two days, which has seen Hytek homes burned by Juznik nationalists, the collapse of the Kustlânic government over revelations one of its supporters had links to violent Juznik gangs, an attack on the Hytek embassy in Brillinia, and a devastating explosion at the Juznik embassy in Kustlân that left scores dead - including the Juznik ambassador.

The foreign secretary said that the Crethian government was "deeply alarmed" by the escalating crisis and called for "all parties involved to exercise restraint".

"This situation is most troubling and those involved have allowed for it to escalate too rapidly. We urge all sides to work in the interest of maintaining the peace, as the current crisis is at risk of spiraling out of control".

She added that de-escalation of tensions was "essential" and urged regional actors such as Mascylla and international actors like the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations to "work to prevent further crisis". The Mascyllian ambassador was wounded in the embassy explosion and the Hytek government has filed a report on Juznik and Kustlânic behaviors with the CDN, which has yet to comment on the report.

Despite Crethian criticism of the organization, Angusdoher said the CDN had "made itself central to maintaining peace in Asura and the world at large" and as such it "must work in the interests of peace". She also said the current international arrangement had "clearly failed" as seen by the return of tensions between Hytekia and Juznia, which fought a devastating civil war with one another following the collapse of Hytekojuznia and international communism.

She was also critical of Veleazan diplomatic backing of Hytekia in the crisis, stating that the peace resulting from the Triskaideka War had "begun showing signs of faltering".

"Asuran and international governments must recogonize the credible threat this crisis poses to peace among nations and act to prevent conflict".

The Foreign Department has also revoked the diplomatic credentials of two Kustlânic diplomats with ties to Minskenfrijheid, a Juznik ethnic party at the center of escalating tensions. The two diplomats, who have not been identified by the government, have been given forty-eight hours to leave Crethia or risk deportation.

PORTAS CALLS FOR DE-ESCALATION AND CDN INTERVENTION
Consul calls for calm and a multinational investigation into brewing crisis in Hytekojuznia

Image
The Consul gave a TV interview in which he stated the
importance of the CDN in resolving the crisis
LOTRIC, MIDRASIA - Consul Melcion Portas has today called for calm in the ongoing crisis between the Juznik Republic and its neighbour the People's Republic of Hytekia. In a statement earlier today the Consul stated that the situation "must not be allowed to spiral out of control" and that "it is imperative to have a multinational effort to solve this crisis before it gets out of hand."

The conflict began when several ethnic Hyteks were murdered by a group of Juznian nationalists in a border town several days ago. The issue was then compounded when the President of Hytekia Romass Gailis condemned the Juznik government for its inability to adequately deal with the situation. In a rather surprising move, the Hytekian government then referred the matter to the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations in which it claimed that the government of the Kustlan Federation had been behind the attacks. The veracity of the report has not yet been confirmed by Commonwealth authorities, however the Premier of Kustlan, Freek Krol has been removed from office by the Kustlander president.

Across many areas of East Asura, particularly those with a large Juznik and Hytekian diaspora, violence has erupted targeting both civilians and diplomatic staff, a sign that this situation has quickly spiralled out of control. However, tensions were only further escalated when Hytekia announced it would be entering into a new alliance with Veleaz, a matter certain to anger and worry Midrasia that Veleaz may yet be turning back to its old ways through an alliance with what is seen as an authoritarian communist regime.

In response to this, Consul Portas highlighted the importance of a multinational effort, particularly within the CDN, to de-escalate tensions and bring those responsible to justice. Speaking earlier today the Consul stated: "We must act swiftly and decisively to deal with this situation before it gets any worse that it already is. I call upon the member states of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations to band together to find a solution to this crisis. I also call upon the governments of Kustlan, Juznia, and Hytekia to offer their full support to our investigation and operations within the area. We must ensure that this does not escalate to further ethnic violence and conflict. I firmly believe that a solution which can satisfy all parties will be found and that all those responsible can be brought to justice. First, the CDN must review the evidence presented to it by the Hytek government, whilst also appealing to other neighbouring governments and civilians for further evidence. Then if necessary, the CDN must be willing to deploy peacekeeping forces within the region. I call on both Juznik and Hytekian governments to respect the 1989 DMZ outlined within the Višnevas Accords."

What is clear is that the fragile peace that brought an end to the war that ripped apart Hytekojuznia may yet be giving birth to another international crisis.

We will have more on this story as it develops.

KUSTLANDIC CITIZENS ARRESTED ON CHARGES RANGING FROM PROSTITUTION TO DRUG SMUGGLING
Monika Arlauskaitė, Crime Correspondent

Višnevas Airport where the Kustlandic citizens were arrested.

This afternoon 13 Kustlandic citizens were arrested whilst boarding a flight from Višnevas to Lekkum on charges including the running of prostitution rings and drug smuggling. The arrests came as a part of a nationwide crackdown on these sorts of illicit activities with the aim of seeing organized crime fall by 15% by 2023. The Višnevas Police Chief recently declared in a press conference that "no stone will be left unturned in our mission to find and destroy criminal groups operating within our nation and preying on the weak and vulnerable. There will be no mercy for them."

The crimes that these foreign citizens have been accused of all carry heavy sentences in Juznia. The minimum sentence for involvement in a prostitution ring is 17 years in prison whilst the minimum sentence for drug smuggling is 35 years in prison. The Višnevas Police have said that "all evidence so far shows that this group is incredibly organised and is involved in multiple illegal activities. All 13 of the Kustlandic citizens arrested today have been charged with actions related to both drug smuggling and prostitution."

In response to the arrests the Kustlandic Embassy in Višnevas said that they "hoped these arrests were not for political reasons" and they requested that "these trials be held fairly". The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded by releasing a statement in which it said that "the Juznik legal system is one of the most transparent and fair in Asura and is a global gold standard. The Kustlandic government can have full faith that justice will be served."

Liberimery Elections: Liberal Party Wins Big! Five Members of Speakers Assembly Recalled

Grand Sachem, Liberimery - Liberimery's August referendums leave a stunning upset in the National Assembly as all five members of the Geo Party up for recall have lost their bids to retain seats in the House of Speakers. This stunning upset brings opens up special elections in the upcoming December elections and threatens to unseat the 7 year control Geo has had on the lower house. The five ousted were caught up in scandal that broke in Feburary when it was revealed they used Assembly funds to pay hush money to staffers, mostly interns, that threatened to go public with details about sexual encounters. The referendums for each candidate reached the target goal in record time, but were initiated outside of the March 2019 election's 100 day window for ballot access. Liberimery allows constituents to recall elected officials with the nations referendum process, a practice that is locally known as "Horn Knocking" after a similar political maneuver in the native islander's local customs.

Candidates for the open seats will need to file quickly to run for the newly opened seats in the upcoming December elections, though the main opposition party, Liberal, saw most of the challengers from last years election file ahead of last night's elections. After the December 2018 general election, the Assembly of Speakers saw their majority Government dwindle to just plus four seats in the Assembly, and were already operating a coalition government with the Democratic Action party. While Liberal now threatens to oust the Geo First Speaker and rearrange their half of the cabinet, they will practically have to run the gauntlet and win all five seats, though party officials say they are considering forming an uneasy coalition with the far right National Republic party, which means allows for a loss of three seats. Observers also comment that this would President General Ryan Lindsey and de facto Liberal Leader, a year as an uncontested lame duck before the 2020 Presidential Elections.

Although the night was mostly in favor of the Liberal Party, it was not all roses for them. The referendum on Abolishing Capital Punishment was approved in a narrow victory, handing a defeat to retentionists who largely support Liberal. The death penalty was long retained by the Lindsey administration but hit a snag last summer when the Union of Correctional Medical Professionals announced that it would not permit it's doctors to perform lethal injections against an inmates will. Retentionist Activist Organizations have said that they are exploring legal options of challenging the law through the courts.

No party's leadership has publiclly commented on the elections as of this morning though both the Office of First Speaker and Office of President General have confirmed that there will be press conferences later today. Liberimery is a Direct Democracy and holds elections three times a year in March, August, and Decemeber. Voter turn out was 53% which is unusually high for an election with only one major national election facing the country.

DEATH IN DONHAVEN

August 12, 2019

Image
Matisons was assassinated while walking along this street in Donhaven, Crethia

Donhaven, Crethia - Hytek Foreign Minister Marts Matisons has been reportedly assassinated in Donhaven, Crethia by a Juznik nationalist, likely a member of the terrorist Juznik Liberation Army group, on the morning of August 12, 2019. Crethian officials are yet to confirm the situation officially but many insiders in Donhaven have confirmed that the 46-year-old died while in hospital.

Witnesses recall the assassin wielding what was likely a Glock-18 pistol from around 15 metres away, and fired at the Foreign Minister while hidden behind a tree, firing two rounds into Matisons' chest before running away into a nearby alleyway, pursued by the police but to no avail. The killing comes as the Donhaven Summit talks stall and look increasingly unlikely to provide a solution for the crisis boiling in Alemannia, and also after Juznik diplomat Jurgis Palubinskas failed to retain his temper and lashed out at the Hytek presence at the summit, further straining the relations between the two bordering states.

The Hytek government has not yet officially responded but many international relations experts have predicted that a war in Hytekojuznia, and possibly Alemannia as whole, is imminent. The blocs of Hytekia and Veleaz as well as Juznia and its allies are looking as if they are edging themselves off the cliff of conflict, but it remains to be seen whether war in Hytekojuznia will break out for the fourth time since 1989.

PEACE TALKS IN DONHAVEN COLLAPSE FOLLOWING ASSASSINATION OF HYTEK MINISTER

Image
Chancellor Menzies warned the international community "must act" to prevent war following the end of peace talks.
Donhaven, Crethia - The assassination of the Hytek foreign minister has resulted in the collapse of peace talks between the Hytek and Juznik governments, with Chancellor Donal Menzies warning the international community that "the possibility of war [was] now great".

The government has sponsored peace talks to bring about an end to rising tensions in Alemannia, as the relationship between Hytekia and Juznia has reached an all-time low since their violent separation. The Hytek government pulled out of the talks following the murder of Marts Matisons, the country's foreign minister, on Gordansen Street earlier this morning.

A spokeswoman for Donhaven division of the Federal Police confirmed that the minister had succumbed to wounds after being shot. He was rushed to the Donhaven University Medical Centre, but died soon after arriving. The Hytek government has accused a member of the Juznik Liberation Army of assassination Matisons. Crethian police have declined address speculation about the identity and nationality of the attacker, promising that information would be publicized once an investigation had been conducted.

At an emergency press conference held after the attack, the chancellor condemned the assassination, saying it was a "vile, repulsive" act and that it "threatened peace in Asura in a way that is impossible to describe".

"For the second time in recent history, Asuran nations look ready to go to war. The volatile nature of the post-war peace has been a conduit for crises. The possibility of war is now great, and the international community must act to prevent another war in Asura".

The foreign department released a statement expressing its "shock" at the assassination and said it was "deeply worrying" that peace talks between the Hytek and Juznik governments had collapsed.

Authorities have kept details surrounding Matisons' assassination under wrap. However, federal police have faced criticism for now preventing the killing of a high-ranking foreign diplomat - especially during a peace summit. Sources close to the cabinet indicate that the Interior Secretary, Rubert Haraldsen, is likely to submit his resignation over Matisons' death. A government spokesman declined to comment.

Tensions between Hytekia and Juznia have been on the rise for several weeks. Ties between the two nations have dramatically worsened following the killing of several ethnic Hyteks in Juznia by radical Junzik nationalists. In the aftermath, the Hytek president hinted that war was a possibility. Hytek homes burned by Juznik nationalists in retaliation and Hytekia entered the DMZ. The collapse of the Kustlânic government over revelations one of its supporters had links to violent Juznik gangs, an attack on the Hytek embassy in Brillinia, and a devastating explosion at the Juznik embassy in Kustlân that left scores dead - including the Juznik ambassador - only further worsened the crisis.

The sides had come to Donhaven two weeks ago to try and prevent the crisis from escalating, however Matisons' assassination has usurped these attempts.
