Connor is also one of the new members of the squad, replacing some of the divers who have retired and entering the 1m Springboard, which is not contested at an Olympic level. She is a progressive diver looking to perfect dives that are of a higher degree, she is confident with backwards, inwards and twists and surprisingly struggles with forward dives where her somersaults have been called sloppy and her entry questionable. But in saying that she has ranked as one of the highest for her forward tuck dive. She hails from the West Phoenician city-state of New Egypt, where her mother is a high ranking priestess of Isis. In her spare time she writes poetry and wants to be a published post before she turns 25.

Bio:

Her Fwd 3½ Somersaults 1 Twist has resulted in her winning 1 Gold and 2 Bronzes with diving partner Rosie Pinkerton, a move that has become a treat watching by fans, a flawless dive with that performance has given them three international medals so far. Often happy to push the envelope in the degree of difficulty, she is super competitive and is harder on herself than her own coach.
Now classed as a seasoned member of the team Rochelle looks set to perform in many international tournaments for years to come. Bio:

Rosie is a seasoned and senior member of the team. Who has pulled off some remarkable wins alongside her synchro partner Rochelle Queen.Rosie tends to favour Forward, Inward and Reverse and still has issue with armstand. She can perform both individual and Syncho, but favours Syncho due to the extra difficulty it brings and the binding it brings. She hails from Fort Blackfoot. She represents a new generation of athletes that West Phoenicia are looking to train up to be champions. Aside from diving she has cited blogging and hiking as other pastimes. Favours the 10m platform and is one of the few youngest members who has flawless entries into the water, but her pike and handstand need vast improvement for her to be in contention of winning more medals.

3D show and water jets on tap for World Aquatics Championships opener
Friday, July 26
Julie WiIlmot

Athletes, VIPs and spectators can expect a 3D light show, music, and could get a little wet at the opening ceremony for the World Aquatics Championships, which will be held on a temporary floating platform in Winter Harbour tonight.

Attendees will be provided with 3D glasses for the full experience of a video and light presentation that will be projected against a backdrop created by a fountain installation. The set-up is headlined by large jet capable of shooting water to a height of 50 metres. The Panopti Tower has also been equipped with fireworks for the occasion.

Director Georgina Frett's vision is to convey a sense of openness and possibility, and making the most of the city's skyline as a backdrop for the open-air stage.

"You have this spectacular setup, on the water with the skyscrapers and landmark buildings in the background. Bringing all of those elements in for the performance was a big part of themes we wanted to have through the show," she said.

The ceremony will also feature an electronic soundtrack composed by DJ BenVenue and a set by Kirkenes hip-hop superstar Pen:dragon, who has been posting what seem to be genuinely excited posts on Intergramme all week. The water fountain setup will be a big part of the show, with Pen:dragon promising on Wednesday that it will be "like nothing else [flame emoji]".

"Previous major sports events, with the Olympics, we've kept it largely classical. And there's nothing wrong with that, when you want to show off the National Lupinissia Ballet for instance. But for this event, we wanted to do something different and showcase the urban culture of Kirkenes, the vibe that really drives the city, and shake up some of the corporate drone cliches people have about this town."

Around 25,000 are expected to attend the ceremonies, including Prime Minister Anne Marsha Cressey. The temporary venue will also witness the high diving competition and serve as the finish for open water swimming events.

[OOC: Feel free to RP ceremony details if you wish]

As preparation for the next Olympics a Kriegiersien team was send to the World Aquatics Championships.

As always they are competing in the black jerseys and swimsuits they also use at the Olympics.

Image

While the Swimming team is consistent and lead by their Android Stars and multiple Olympic medal winners, Nova and Alf Swimtob, all other disciplines have undergone massive changes.

The artistic and diving branches had to handle the loss of the giant Pirrate Family after a controvery between the Goverment and the freelancing Clan and replaced them with hired Stars from Brancaland like Donald Ducknaldo and own few talents.

Water Polo on the other hand really thrived in the last years.
After deadly battles in stadiums got more common in Kriegiersien, replacing Baseball and Boule, a further new idea, to fill the Arena with water, found its way in the Kriegiersien heart. Not only to promote Ship Battles and Fights under water, even Underwater Rugby and Water Polo began to thrive, as a side effect.

Now the Kriegiersien male Water Polo began to develop a scene, even better then the always good female one.

They are, coming from savage fighting in water with weapons, known for a very brutal and sturdy playing style. The ball handling and passing may not be on a level with the big names like Kelssek, Electrum or others, but the physical form and force does.

Yovisktre: Youthful Delegation Provides Many Opportunities
Reporting for V3 News Services, Rin Slakori

KIRKENES - To make a dominating aquatics program, one needs to occasionally pool young talent and see just what they can do when they're away from the comforting waters of Vekaiyun aquatic arenas. After all, it wasn't too long ago that Vekaiyu's Olympic squad went through a small youth movement, as older athletes retired in favor of new blood and, for the most part, those who had once been waiting in their wake now carry on the Vekaiyun tradition of winning.

Yet, finding said talent isn't easy, especially considering how integral aquatics have been to young Vekaiyun athletes. "Everyone wants to be a Sulevire, or an Ivere," Vekaiyun Olympic Chairwoman (VOC) Riyna Yovisktre. "And sometimes, it's reflected in their times. But with how ubiquitous these leagues seem to be, it can be tough taking the tens of thousands, perhaps more, and narrowing them down further. So, we look for other qualities that could possibly divide the field. They know that. It's to the point now where we seriously need to consider expanding our resources in order to better fill our roster with bright, young talent."

There was much speculation and brow-beating when Yovisktre informed the nation on V4's "Spray" aquatic news and sports program that the nation would be taking a different direction with respect to these World Aquatics Championships. "Our delegation will feature athletes that have never competed in international competition, and athletes that have yet to reach adulthood." When host Vinsent Ilyavastre questioned the chairwoman, she was quick with a blunt response. "We are Vekaiyu, Vinsent. The world knows we are in an elite class, a benchmark for mastery in the water. What else do we have left to prove? By featuring a delegation of young, relatively unknown athletes, we strive to gain much, as it may reveal future medalists for, say, an Olympiad, for instance."

"Scouting has their work cut out for them," she later added. "But I trust their hard work in compiling the data required for such a delegation. It is an enormous undertaking, but one that should prove fruitful. After all, these games will be featured in nearby Kelssek, and the city may have Unonian translations for those who are still learning Codexian. No one is of age to drink [alcohol] as well, meaning there should be no problems from our delegation. It's really win-win, to coin a phrase, when you think about it."

Analysts will muse, and pundits will critique. Comparisons have already been brought up to the Third Water World Championships, in which the vulpine nation scored first on the medal table. Vekaiyu, after all, is expected to compete at ever level, but this time the competition may be a bit skewed, with a group of vulpine individuals that lack experience and almost certainly lack poise. They will need to learn quickly, as the games are nearing opening day. They, the athletes, will need to put away their cameras, their holo computers or any type of distraction, and focus on why their plane touched down on the busy runways of Kirkenes Malton Airport, only to be whisked away via a subway and the unusual names of the stations on the blue line, in order to arrive at St. David where, presumably, dorms await them for their three-week stay in a faraway land. The pressure is on, and it remains to be seen if Yovisktre and her gamble will pay off.

"I liked the ballet," a rather shy Ankyela Relestroviyey remarked in front of a camera after the opening ceremonies. "I'm still practicing using Codexian in real-world instead of the situations they have us do in class."

From the province of Skendia hails Yiisu Baletrovi, a young athlete who is looking to make a name for himself. "I've never really competed against non-vulpines. Well, there was this one time where it was a human, I think. They measured him and he had such a long armspan, but I don't know if he made it past heats."

Well within one of the cliques already forming in the delegation was Mayri Naristrovistre, an open water swimmer who has a long reach herself. Sometimes it pays to have odd proportions. "I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight," she confessed. "We were given our suits [in Vekaiyu to practice in], but they haven't arrived yet. I'm kind of worried. Should I be? I really want to practice tomorrow cause they say it's supposed to be warm but kind of choppy, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to."

Regardless of the outcome, it will certainly be interesting to see if Vekaiyu can continue a sort of dominance in the water. Odds are the nation does not fare as well, but sports enthusiasts will nevertheless be keen to familiarize themselves with names that one day may become household-caliber. That is the hope, of course, one that is spearheaded by the chairwoman of the Vekaiyun Olympics herself.
"Your uniform doesn't seem to fit. You're much too alive in it."

RZN Synchro Team aims gold

Kirkenes- With the World Aquatic Championships to be held in Kirkenes, Kelssek, the RZN will be aiming to go for gold in the competition. Artistic Swimming is the “holy grail” of aquatic sports in Renzynistan. Being an archipelagic country, everyone learns to swim at an early age. We catch up with Svetlana Chuchuvanovski, the RZN Women’s Artistic Swim Team captain on their training. “It’s hard but if you have the passion for it, then it will be possible”. She says. Here is a quick profile of Svetlana:

Name: Svetlana Alexandra Chuchuvanovski
Age: 23 years old
Bio: Ms. Chuchuvanovski was born to parents who were both lawyers. She diverted with the family’s profession and is currently a medical student at the Royal University of Renzynistan. She started Artistic Swimming at an early age and has also competed internationally. She hopes to one day open up a swim school while managing her own medical clinic.

Some profiles of the RZN Women’s Artistic Swim Team are as follows:

Name: Marina Gundova
Age: 22
Bio: Ms Gundova is a “formidable woman” according to their team coach. She was orphaned at a young age and taught herself how to swim by watching videos online. She became viral when she swam the Renzynistan Strait, and was recruited at the Artistic Swim Team right after. She is currently studying physics on a prestigious King Gaston Scholarship Grant at the Salevik University of Science and Technology.

Name: Hailey Hughs
Age: 28
Bio: Ms Hughs is a swimmer “thru and thru”. Despite being a single mother, she overcame the challenges and still pursued her passion in artistic swimming. She plans to compete in the next Olympics if she gets selected for the National Team again. “I am hopeful.” she says. It is good to have young girls to have someone to look up to--overcoming life’s challenges to pursue their passion. We need more women empowering other women.

Name: Exelsa Hinterton
Age: 20
Bio: Ms Hinterton immigrated to the country as an infant. She learned to love the country on. She learned to swim at the beaches and trained at the sea. She is currently taking a break from university, but she plans to be a marine biologist after.

There team name is The West Phoenician Sea Hags, but don't let the name fool you. The West Phoenician Women's Water Polo squad looks more like a whose who of the West Phoenician Beauty pageant circuit. But these ladies are not just about beauty, they also value brawn, team work, fitness and technique to get the job done.

The West Phoenician Sea Hags were first formed to contest women's Water Polo at an international level at the Summer Olympics. Unlike their male counterparts The Mermen, women had no international tournament to participate in.

The Sea Hags first international appearance was at the Summer Olympic Games in Aeropag, Paripana. It was a total disaster for the team who failed to progress passed qualifiers after winning only one of their five games.

The Sea Hags next appearance was at the Summer Olympic Games in Novonaya, Kelssek and Provinsk, Vekaiyu. Where they finished second in their pool, but failed to progress to quarter-finals. Instead the female team from Electrum advanced. The loss was devastating for the team who knew if they didn't pull in a win The West Phoenician Olympic Committee was going to pull the team from any further appearences.

It was at the Summer Olympic Games in The Free where The Sea Hags got their big break they have been looking for. They placed second in their grouping and due to a tight head to head goal difference were able to progress to the round of 16 where they sent the team from Benjamin Mark home after a 12-8 win.
In the quarter-finals they come up against baseball rival nation The Free Republics, also the host nation. Confidence to progress was low but team coach Maggie Donovan motivated the women, even though it was a tough match The Sea Hags won 7-6.

Kelssek was the next nation in the way of the Sea Hags getting to the finals. Kelssek a nation that had large support for the sport and huge number of fans and medals to prove it. So it did shock the nation and other nations who had come to watch that West Phoenicia had pulled out the impossible, by defeating their rivals 9-7.

The Sea Hags had made the finals were they did come face to face with one of their biggest Olympic rivals, the team from Cassadaigua. Both nations had been fighting hard to claim the second spot on the medal tally behind the host nation. The two nations had crossed paths in many sports. And that day West Phoenicia was playing hard for first place. The West Phoenician team relied on getting their opponents to foul against them to give them the edge, a tactic that paid off where the Sea Hags won 10-6.
They had taken home the gold medal, the team that many tbought would go nowhere, they alsp beat out there male counterparts who took home the silver.

It was going to be a beautiful competition at the World Aquatics Championships. They as well as the Mermen were playing in group A. In only what could be seen as a clash of the Titans. For the Sea Hags they would be going up against;
Vakolicci Haven and Celeria
Vekaiyu
Liventia
Kelssek

There first match would be against Kelssek, the nation they had beaten In the semi-finala at Free Republics. Fans were encouraged to come out in force to support the team.

Subject: Declaration of War

Good evening,
It was with great alarm that I saw what I saw at the most recent summer Olympics, as a team so unskilled in its approach took home the gold medal through a mixture of cheating and what must only be described as foul play. This is, of course, unacceptable to those whose teams actually trained for the competition, work hard, and spend their time on the sport they love rather than on showing their assets (minimal in the case of the sea hags, the name is apt) to any man who might be passing by. I have spoken with my sister who informs me that the course I am about to take is both unnecessary, petty, unbecoming and very fun...but I only listen to my sister when it suits me.
In my capacity as captain of the Havenic ladies national water polo team, I declare a state of war against the West Phoenicia sea hags. Expect an unfriendly competition; your camp will be unpleasant, your sleep unpeaceful, your life miserable and your competition short. I make this declaration today, with my teammates bearing witness to our determination. It shall be so.

To the women of the Vakolicci Haven and Celeria,

“A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.”

― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

It is a sad day when 5 grown women would pen their signature to the ravings of a lunatic, in this case the lunatic being Savenna Galos Konti.
The Summer Olympic Games in The Free Republics had nothing to do with cheating or foul play on our behalf. We worked as a team and got the job done through hard work, training and skill. Where did you gals place again?

We would think a captain of a sporting team would have more class than attempt to sass a gold medalist Olympic team as the Sea Hags. Than we remembered she was from Vakolicci Haven and Celeria; and that explains it all.

If it's war you ladies want, so be it. West Phoenicians are known for their survival in battles, and not afraid of war. We will be in the pool in match day two for battle, where we shall show no mercy.
Just remember ladies, five teams in this grouping and one is gonna go home early. We shall be happy to have our servants and staff pack your bags for you.

May Neptune bless our every move that we shall feel like giant waves crashing down on you.

Brandy Matthews,
Sea Hags Captain

 Now purchasable:

The first merchandise from Kriegiersien for these World Championships.

The Kriegiersien mascot, Tina the Hippo, can now be bought online or from sellers at the Championship as plush figure.

The animal shows all the qualities of the Kriegiersien athletes. Collected, calm, strong and big in size, an elegant figure in the water.

The artist took his inspiration from the inhabitant with the same name in a Zoo in Schoenwetter. Every medal winner and owner of a ticket from the World Championships can visit her for one day for free at the zoo.

As Tina also predicts the results of the Water Polo teams, she was nearly slaughtered from patriots as traitor, after she ate from the melon on the Renzynistan flag first, hence predicting their win.
To save her, she was chosen as mascot of the Kriegiersien team in a marketing coup of the Zoo director, thereby receiving immunity.

Mixed Diving Makes Medal
Reporting for V3 News Services, Rin Slakori

KIRKENES - When it comes to these World Aquatics Championships, the vulpine nation of Vekaiyu feels very much like it has returned to its roots, when it was, to coin a phrase, a small fish in a big pond or, in the case of the mixed diving routine, a small fish in a rather large inlet leading to the outer seas. Indeed, with a delegation laden in uncertainty, it foists an atmosphere of concern to the faithful and the fanatics who made the trek across the continent. Vekaiyu's first medal in the Fifth Summer Olympiad, to draw a comparison, was a bronze that began with Ehjy Ecaste and ended with Vinsent Ivere's relatively unknown finesse (for the time) in an effort to secure bronze in Outineau, just down the ways a bit from Kirkenes. The nation has grown since then into a powerhouse with expectations. Vekaiyuns are expected to perform in the water. Athletes are supposed to display dominance and secure medals. The nation must hoist itself onto the shoulders of a select few men and women in order to appear on equal footing with their human counterparts, if not better. It is yet another way in which the species can measure up against one another, after all.

Try telling that to the athletes in this competition.

"I've never been on television," Yulie Imalstri informed as she closed her chapter book while en route to the dorms set up for the athletes on the campus of the University of Kirkenes (presumably... dorms are off-limits to media in order to give the athletes a bit of a break from their momentary glimpse of a white-hot spotlight). "I was in the newspaper a few times. My father always clips them out when I'm in it, like when I was on the honor roll. Oh, and my friends were in a picture, but he didn't save that. I was there somewhere, but I think they clipped me out. It was for a charity race."

One would presume the newspaper clippings would only grow from the result of the mixed diving event held on a relatively unassuming Saturday afternoon in Kelssek. There, clad in the red-and-gold suit issued by the home nation, rose Imalstri along with her partner, Lisko Trulastruye. They both gazed down at the pellucid waters well below both platforms as sunlight only partially obstructed by favorably clouds danced on the surface disturbed only by wind and the performance before their routine. The two selected a dive that had a relatively low degree of difficulty when compared to other teams (routine number: 5121A - forward full somersault with half twist in the straight position), but with difficulties from performances prior, it allowed them a chance to ascend the standings, provided they would execute a flawless routine. Assuming straight positions, the pair lifted synchronously, then executed, slicing into the water at times very close to one another with angles of entry adequate for the competition at hand.

Of course, the "splash" score would benefit the pair, and helped to separate their score from the Darmen pair, which would have to settle for third. The amount of splash, as it is called, has routinely aided vulpines, as their sleek entry combined with their typically lower body mass is advantageous when minimizing water splash. Being a bit younger, this further worked to their benefit and helped to mitigate a few standard deductions from the degree of twist between the two divers.

They would have to wait to see if their score would stand. Luckily, the top three positions did not change after their routine, and by the time the pair from Ko-oren slid into the fifth position, they knew a medal was theirs. Final tallies gave them the silver medal.

"Was that us?" exclaimed Lisko Trulastruye after the medal ceremony. "Like, did we really do that? I don't know what to think!"

Think this: the pair have earned Vekaiyu's first medal in this new competition, which would end up being the only medal won today, despite some tenacious performances in open water swimming and in the more calmer waters of the pool. It remains a grab-bag as to how Vekaiyu will perform moving forward, but with a medal, one can assume the pressure has been taken off ever so slightly heading into Day 2 - perhaps now a slightly bigger fish in the open waters.

Liventia faces GE; water polo's Gates to miss election campaign
OREAN— Prime minister James Morgan has called a snap general election in Liventia in an attempt to shore up his coalition's majority in the Common Parliament.

Mr Morgan's Social Democrats currently rely on the Democratic Liberals and National Christian Democrats (NCD) to govern, but the prime minister hopes recent strong polling will translate into a result that will give his government the ability to drop the NCD from its coalition.

The NCD and Democratic Liberals formerly formed the National Centrist Bloc, but the NCD has increasingly opposed Mr Morgan's legislative business, and contested the last upper-house Chamber of Deputies elections separately from the rest of the National Centrist Bloc.

Two-and-a-half weeks of campaigning will take place before the vote in three weeks' time.

However, the news could not have come at a worse time for 31-year-old water polo player Mhairi Gates, who is chair of the Conservative Party of Liventia's Bede City constituency party and has been selected to stand in the seat for the Tories, replacing retiring MP Julian Arrows.

Gates is in Kirkenes, Kelssek, as part of the national women's water polo team. One of the team's veterans, she is mostly a reserve but has not been able to campaign for the election.

"It is what it is, I love representing my country whether it be in politics or sport," she told Liventian press at the team's build-up camp before they departed for Kelssek.

"The Conservative Party is defending the Bede City seat but I hope our constituents appreciate everything Julian has done for them and understand why I cannot be there to campaign personally," she added.

"I have a great team on the ground who will be going door to door, and explaining my absence. I am serving my country in the sporting arena, and I hope to serve our constituents in the Commons."

Gates isn't the only sportsman in this position — Branden Spencer, who will swim in the men's 800m and 1500m freestyle for Liventia, is the serving Social Democrat MP for the safe seat of Orean Olympic.

However, as the swimming events only take place in the second week, Spencer — aged 27 the youngest current MP — has been able to begin campaigning in his constituency, having been granted an exemption from Swimming Liventia's pre-meet camp.

At a small pavement café, somewhere in Kirkenes

"For goodness sake Shaa," Savenna snapped, "You need to eat!"
The 3 of them were sipping at small cups of coffee, and showing the contrasts of their respective upbringing plainly. For Savenna, Kirkenes weather was uncomfortably cold, the tanned-skinned water polo player being used to the hot, tropical climate that pervaded her homeland of Celeria. For Shaa, however, the multiple Olympic gold medalist was enjoying a beautiful summers day: she lounged quite comfortably in a dress that to Savenna, or anyone normal in fact, would consider far too elaborate and formal for breakfast. It did, however, have its purpose.

While Savenna was rather beautiful, the clothes she was wearing combined with her utter lack of jewellery or cosmetics ensured that she was completely outshone by her younger and smaller companion. Shaa would have been better served in the ballroom of some Lord or Lady, in the long red dress which managed to fulfill the Havenic fashion of using a lot of cloth whilst managing to leave very little to the imagination. She was bedecked in jewels, her body mainly proclaiming its owner to be beautiful and rich, until the eyes noticed that the bands of jewels at her throat were cunningly twisted against the most elegant...but still very functional, of slaves collars. The more successful Olympian however seemed either unaware of its presence or not to mind one bit.

The owner of the key to this collar, and indeed the legal owner of Shaa herself, sat beside her nibbling at a collection of pastries arrayed on his plate. George Sopas was a small, lean man who would look practically feminine if it was not for the muscles that marked him out as a swimmer that covered his body: he was handsome however in his own way, and soft both in voice and in action.

The three of them went everywhere together: they travelled in the same car, went to the same restaurant, attended the same events alongside one another, and if the rumours were true they slept in the same bed also. If it wasn't for her status, which George had tried to little success to fix, Savenna was sure that he and Shaa would be married now...why she kept refusing to accept the regular offers of freedom were a mystery to her.
"I don't want to eat," Shaa complained, pushing her breakfast aside and glouring in a noticeably un-ladylike way at Savenna and George when they both tried to get the food back to her. "I don't even want to be here. I think that..."

Inwardly, Savenna and George sighed. A Shaa Clind rant was one of the ways to kill a mood, and at the same time to leave George wishing he had never swoarn never to use the electric shock function on the collar affixed around Sha's throat. They were annoying, long and unstoppable...one was beginning.
"I think we should follow the Velsturmens example," she snapped, looking from one to the other. "Get the fuck out of Havenssport. Look at this thing." She thrust some papers across the table and glared, defying anybody to defy her anger.
"I've got to swim 10 k today," she shouted at anyone who would listen, "Why? I'm a fucking middle-distance medley swimmer. I could eat as much as a horse and I'd still be fucked, I've never swam this distance competitively, I don't like swimming it and I can't swim it."
"But Shaa…" George began before a dismissive wave of the hand from the young slave shut him up.
"I have no chance of winning it, and I'll be so shattered that by the end I will have no chance of winning the things I'm actually good at. Gods, if Georgina hadn't volunteered to do that ridiculous 25 km race I'm pretty sure I'd be put down for doing that one as well! Don't you get it? They're trying to cut me and George out of winning anything to get rid of us. We're too close to you in their eyes, Savenna...and you speak out too much."

Pair of Divers Earn Gold
Reporting for V3 News Services, Rin Slakori

KIRKENES - Not to be outdone by the success of the mixed team event on Saturday, the combined might of the two from Ikalossi in Solike - Mayry Remestroviyey and Vesilia Emalsu - ensured they would secure Vekaiyu's first gold medal in the early part of these games with a stellar diving routine. The moment the pair cut into the water was the moment victory seemed all but a forgone conclusion, and only a late push by Liventia would make things interesting. Interesting, but ultimately falling short.

Their routine was buoyed by an eyebrow-raising routine: a 5324D; that is, a reverse somersault with four twists, in the free position. Such an effort would be considered impressive among Vekaiyun Olympic athletes, and while their routine suffered from a bit of synergistic errors, the end result was nevertheless something the Vekaiyun Olympic Committee (VOC) may have to consider as the pair age together.

Yet, how would that work? Do divers know each other for long periods of times, or are they paired off by their coach in order to better suit their needs? In tradition, Vekaiyun divers, especially those who compete in pairs, are those who were joined by their coach early on in their adult lives. Coaches look for similarities in reach and height among other factors, which deviates their path from a solo competition. After all, team diving requires a certain set of skills independent from solo diving, some of which are obvious, others which aren't as much.

Still, who's to say the two will ultimately end up together in Olympic competition, if they even make it that far? Well, all one needs to do is ask the pair of their thoughts to that matter.

"Our parents put us in the same class when we were three," Mayry Remestroviyey informed after their medal performance. "We have the same tastes in music, food, classes, everything. We're like sisters, sisters that aren't related or anything."

Vesilia Emalsu put it a bit differently. "It's as they say, the same fruit can grow from different vines. We have the same classes and go home to play the same video games. We want to get the Codexian-speaking ones, but you need a special plug for that and it's not very popular on the networking, but I know it can be done."

Indeed, the two are also avid video game players. It seems the term "video game fever" is alive and well among the pair, which fancies recent racing titles on the NV-33, the gold standard console for today's fanatics. While it is understood that video game capabilities are a bit behind when compared to systems in neighboring nations, it is nevertheless a growing industry among the youth, who seem keen to explore this virtual world that seemingly offers little consequence to real life aside from cost in both time and money. Recently, the NV-33 was upgraded from the NV-20, which offered limited networking capabilities but still allowed for connection into holographic screens, which again are popular with today's youth.

"If we don't make it [to the Olympics], I hope we can start up a video game league," Mayry remarked. "Maybe there can be an Olympics for Olympic games? Olympiad 12 came out recently. We memorized the diving controls on it - it actually folds out to a poster that's nearly the length of my bedroom wall! It's not too hard to learn the button combinations. You only need to press nine button combinations for a twist diver - that's better than the eleven you had to do on the last game!"

Elsie Dutton pulls in silver

It was a successful day in the Open water swimming - Women's 10 km at the Winter Harbour where West Phoenician Elsie Dutton took home a home silver medal narrowly missing out on the gold medal by three seconds.

As the race started th come to a close and with the finishing line in sight, the pack of swimmers started to pick up the pace. Elsie Dutton who was currently in fourth spot began to oush passed the voices of her muscles that cried out for a break. She pushed passed the voices to will her arms and legs to quicken up the pace.

With the adrenaline pumping she passed the second and third place swimmers who were also feeling the affects of the 10Km swim. She could see the one swimmer In front of her, so close she could touch her. Elsie had no idea who the woman in front of her, for all she knew it was her best friend and team mate C.J Skout.

Water splashed across her face and she took a small gulp, as she pushed herself those extra strokes. Before Elsie realised, fans watching were cheering and celebrating. The race was over and she had come second. A moment of unhappiness crossed her face, she had been so close in win in gold, but than it dawned on her, her first international race and she had pulled in silver. She gave a whoop and fist pumped the air.

The West Phoenician Media were quick to surround the Silver medalist, unlike some of the big name athletes Elise Dutton was not a household name but with this winning, thousands would suddenly know who she was.

Elise Dutton was 16 years old and was born and had been raised in the West Phoenician city-state of Africana Territory:, in the Elephant Walk Mountains. Her father was the mayor of Elephant Walk Mountains and her mother was a home maker who raised four children.
Elise Dutton found a passion for swimming at an early age, but was not a big fan of the chlorine pools, she always wanted a big challenge and saw open water swimming as a big challenge. Her parent hired her a coach to help improve her skills and technique.
Elise attended Elephant Walk Mountains High School where she became part of the Swim team where she was the only open water swimming student In the school who preferred long distance to short distance swimming and was used by the school to win interschool Championships in long distance swimming events.
After winning a number of junior titles, she had the honour of attending the West Phoenician Institute of Sports College, where she met and became good friends with C.J Skout and a new coach who has persuaded her to enter more international competition that focus on open water events. Elsie is also training for the Olympic team in the Women's 10km marathon and possible to join the Triathlon team. The Silver medal today will definitely improve her chances of joining the next Summer Olympic Games delegation.

Good day,
I would like to congratulate you on the incredible display I witnessed today, as you showed me and my sister that age is catching up to us by humiliating us so convincingly on the diving board. Although as an Olympic athlete it is often hard to take a decline in performance, the level of maturity you showed in accepting your victory, and inflicting a defeat on so many Olympic-quality opponents is truly admirable.
I have heard from a family friend the interview you gave on your homelands television, and so please accept the contents of the parcel attached to this letter: the necessary ports required to allow your gaming devices to play a multitude of Codexian (as well as Havenic) games. I have included what I think is a decent collection of titles, you might disagree. Perhaps you may find that in international gaming, you have found an arena in which I am a far less easily-overcome opponent than in that in which I earn my wages.

Further congratulations and best wishes,
Casara Nien,

Late Totheshow had to pack in the last second, when she heard she was nominated for the World Championships in Artistic swimming - Women's solo.
A day before the start she had to grab her things, get into the plane and fly to Kirkenes.

The night before the qualification round was very stressful, with jetlag and a music band from Celeria playing all night long in front of the hotel.

She still qualified for the final, not very surprising, as everyone did.

The next time she would be better. She was a survivor and comebacker. She survived her boyfriend, a knee injury, the Kriegiersien qualification, the missed registration from the officials, missed the first plane to Kirkenes (that crashed into the sea), bad food, bad manners at the custom, an ambush of Hooligans and a bee sting.

For someone who had refused to play in the Water Polo team, because the match style got too violent in her opinion, (what was proven in her eyes by three dead in the friendly match she would have been nominated for) and with an amount of different jobs in the last years as Aquarium cleaner, wale tamer, pearl diver, combat diver, lifeguard, fisher, sailor, waiter, jaywalker, assassin and belly dancer, she had seen lot in her last 10 years. And she was only 24. The big stories had yet to come. If not at these championships, then later.

It was the hot story that hit all the news outlets this morning. For sports fans it was a welcome relief due to the poor performance of West Phoenicia at the World Aquatics Championships that saw them slide from first position to fourth, and their failure to obtain any medals on Day three.

But for the political minded citizens it was going to be a good source of talk around the water cooler today. Scottie Blu; Governor of the West Phoenician city-state of Deception Bay and office staff were busted in a sting that had the governor who is a member of the West Phoenicia First Party attempting to rig the upcoming governor election.

Governor Scottie Blu has been governor of the coastal city-state for 8 years. The West Phoenicia First Party has held the city-state governorship for 20 years. It was always considered a safe state for them.
But over the last two years a number of other political parties have gotten their talons into the state namely The Conservative Party in the east and South parts of the state and the Socialist Party in the West part of the state. The northern part of the state was the only area which continued to be a stronghold for the party. Membership in the state had dropped and support for the West Phoenicia First Party had plummeted, a trend the party had seen growing across the Empire. They were no Longer seen as all powerful, especially now with so many other parties who were luring away their membership base.

Once upon a time it was the most powerful centrist political party, but after losing a string of seats that allowed The Right Wing Coalition to assume power of the government the West Phoenicia First Party had to align with The Animal Justice Party, The Justice Party and the Democratic Monarchist Party just to stay as a strong opposition. The Socialist Party had tried to discuss a merger, but the idea had been rejected by more centre and centrr-right members of the West Phoenicia First Party.

A scandal like this would defiently hurt their chances coming election time to claw their way back into power.

Governor Scottie Blu and his staff were caught red handed tampering with electoral rolls, adding people who did not exist, tampering with postal votes and removing people off the electoral register.
Governor Scottie Blu who is up for re-election has been touring the city-state on his campaign trail, which has been dubbed lukewarm by a number of media outlets. There was no real substance in his messages or his policies. He appeared to be under the impression that people should just vote for him, for being him.

Opposing parties official spokespeople have called for Scottie Blu to drop out of the race and for the West Phoenicia First Party to be penalized by not allowing the party to run for governorship in Deception Bay for this election.

Governor Scottie Blu chose not to comment and that an official statement would be released by the end of the day. Meanwhile West Phoenicia First Party national leader Mr Grace At in said she was unaware this sort of behaviour was going on, and has given 100% support for an investigation. She said if Scottie Blu was to step out, they had every right to field another candidate as all should not be punished due to a few bad apples.

Media outlets are reporting more details so be released as this story unfolds.

Just what happens to abandoned Havenic sports bases?

Over its many incarnations in the world of international sport, from 'the greater vakolicci haven' to 'greater vakolicci haven' (caused by a quite remarkable administration error), to the more recent 'Vakolicci Haven and Celeria' (caused by the resignation of Velstrania's sporting authorities from Havenssport) one thing has remained a constant. That trend, one of the sporting worlds most divisive, is Havenssports habit of buying up large amounts of real estate in any host city that they happen to visit for large-scale events. The only defence to this behaviour appears to be a ban on foreign entities owning real estate as requests to Havenssport to stop, and reassureances that everything will be fine, fail to change the fact that where there is someone willing to buy and someone willing to sell, a transaction will go ahead.

The feight of what happens to these places, often comprising living quarters for nye-on a thousand people differs. The Havenssport rationale of course is that following the departure of the Havenic team from one event, they might have need to return to another held in the same country. When the nation in question has pulled out of all sporting events for the foreseeable future however, the rationale for keeping the large block of living, administration and recreational space is highly mysterious. When the country in question no longer exists, this is only compounded further.
It may be asked why Havenssport doesn't simply do what every single other sporting delegation in the world does and rent somewhere. This, according to them, is because they don't want to have to remodel and the cost of doing so would be very high: clearly the cost of maintaining building after building of empty space is better for all concerned. This makes total sense.

So it is again that Havenssport buys up property in another of the seemingly endless parade of bland and expensive cities that Kelssek has to offer. More money that could have gone into training the athletes of tomorrow is instead going property in Kirkines: a city you've never heard of, and most likely will have zero need to hear of ever again...the average re-use amount of a Havenssport base being approximately never. We've got it though, and we should all be proud of the fact that Havenssport once again have turned what was likely a place where people could live/work/do whatever they do into a space where, after the world aquatics championships (an event whose popularity is shown by the fact it's available on v.net only) have concluded, will be used for absolutely nothing.

Or maybe not!

Somehow, a small amount of common sense has entered the minds of Havenssport leadership, and they have decided to start doing stuff with the obscene amount of vacant lots they have decided to buy: oh happy days. It would be thought that, with the sense levels coming out of Havenssport in recent years they planned to turn them into urban chicken farms, or factories where people make cuckoo clocks out of goat meat, or brothels aimed at the undead: but once again we've been proven wrong. They're actually renting the fuckers out!
What, I here you cry? Doing something useful with them? Yes! Letting people who live near them rent the empty living quarters that they don't use, I know sorry I need a breather as well. Back in a sec.

Breather over, I can confirm that Havenssport have today announced plans to rent out the houses and apartments they habitually purchase in any random city in which they place their feet on that cities normal rental market. Money raised through these rentals and any possible (take a deep breath here) FUTURE SALES!!! will be invested in youth, nitche and disability sports. You better believe it, we're sceptical.
This must certainly come as a welcome relief to the cities around the world that are home to a small district of well-tended but totally empty properties, as they will now be available to help support the local economy again. The properties are spacious, luxurious and apparently come with the Havenssport 'greatest landlord ever' guarantee, which is new and your guess is as good as mine as to what it actually means. Perhaps they're giving tenants free sweets or something? A spacehopper? Who knows, who cares.
If all this news of Havenssport doing something sensible overloads your disbelief censors, tune in soon to hear more about the terrible Havenic aquatics performance. It's ben legendarily bad.

((ooc: Sorry if you don't allow foreign property ownership Kelssek, it wasn't included in your wiki articles for obvious...i.e. why would it be...reasons.))

Corrupt Dictatorship

In relative peace and quiet from the violence of a World Bowl going on at the same time, the Olympic Board of Ko-oren has rolled the second batch of dice of a long, long game. The objective of said game: getting the gorgeous Green and Blue back at an Olympiad. For all of the Dragonfly Archipelago's efforts in sports from soccer to rugby league, to gridiron, to baseball and back again, Ko-orenites simply don't do very well in individual events. Even the associated team activities aren't enjoyed across the islands. Water in general, it seems, scares us away, even though we're literally surrounded by it.

Anyhow, that first dice roll should indicate the OBK's chances of getting a decent following at any upcoming Olympiad. The traditional baseball, cricket, rugby, soccer clubs at high schools tend to be next door from a swimming, track, or field club in an attempt to become a little more allround. The first steps have been taken, now it's up to the first generation of competitive swimmers and divers to make us proud and secure funding.

With the final cheers dying out in the streets over Ko-oren's second World Bowl victory, a 6-0 win over Pridnestrovia, which took place in Banija for the last couple of weeks, it's time to direct our attention elsewhere. And no, that shouldn't be gridiron's regular season, or the soccer World Cup qualifiers that are coming up very soon. No, for the next two weeks, let's follow the World Aquatics Championships - in Kirkenes, Kelssek.

What should jump out at you is the unequal distribution of athletes: the places where the swimming clubs most took off are in the south (as shouldn't really be a surprise), in Yoshima (Japanese-sounding names), Finisterre (Spanish/Portuguese-sounding names) and somehow also in Mawryshire (the Celtic names, with last names starting with a lowercase 'y'). We'll take a look at this later, too.

Here are some of our best chances at medals:
- Kunio Yamasato (diving, men's 10 m)
- Fumika Machida (diving, women's 1 m)
- Chisa Miyamoto (diving, women's 10 m)
- Yamasato and Miyamoto in the 10 m mixed event, obviously

- Reewinkel and Mizoguchi in the high diving events in the men's and women's department, respectively

- Men's 200 m freestyle: yBechewn
- Men's 100 m butterfly: Uchida
- Men's 200 m individual medley: Durán
- Women's 50 m freestyle: yLlewnlim
- Men's 25 km open water: Caldas
- Water polo: Men's and Women's

In the first few days of the Championships, we've seen some surprises and a few things that went according to plan:
- Machida won bronze in women's 1 m springboard
- Open water swimming (women's 10 km), featuring some very highly praised athletes, especially from Darmen, was surprisingly won by Sara Godoy by 3 seconds!
- Tokuma and Malmstroom won silver in diving (women's 3 m springboard)
- on the same day, Yamasato and Perch won gold in diving (men's 10 m platform, synchronised)!
- Abréu came second in women's solo artistic swimming (free routine)

Some things didn't go as hoped:
- Yamasato and Miyamoto came 5th in mixed 10 m platform
- The Water Polo teams are off to a very slow start - but the tournament is long and we've got quite a ways to go...

Ko-oren are third on the medal tally for now, with more medals won than projected before the Championships started!
