Probably the vast majority of commended and condemned individuals have broken rules before.

You can't hold grudges because that dude murdered someone. After all, both of us have gone over the speed limit before, so we've broken the law before as well.

Believe an admitted murderer on NS would probably be DOS’d.
Anyway, a life sentence/capital punishment is the RL equivalent of a DOS. My standard with Auralia reflects my RL standards with ex-cons (with a few caveats). But that’s not a discussion for here.

Anyway, I’m done arguing here I think. I’ll try not to argue until the next time this comes up.

Please don't question the intelligence of everyone who voted a certain way on a WA resolution, such behavior is trolling.

Also, there’s a difference between Predator (most users didn’t know it was illegal) and Auralia’s multiing (kinda hard to try to self commend while multiing unknowingly). The “repeal all their condemns!” doesn’t hold water, given how the big users’ condemns were actually repealed.

Things like flaming are against the rules and a lot of commended and condemned people have been warned for it, I’m sure.

I suppose that’s a fair point about Predator. However, I still think it’s ridiculous to hold a grudge this long. Auralia’s extremely impressive resume is not incidental to his one instance of multiing, and we should be able to forgive a mostly harmless mistake like that. The only time a player should have a permanent mark on their record is if they are DOS’d, or have serious OOC issues that the mods can’t enforce. Auralia is neither.

OOC: I echo Fauxia's words. Auralia's contributions to NationStates greatly outweigh any momentary lapse of judgement.

It takes quite a bit more than a 'momentary' lapse of judgment to multi & submit a self-commend.

Indeed, it was more of a two week lapse of judgement.

How many resolutions have I authored? Five, six? At some point the quantity of work really stops being a point of self-esteem, even for the least confident author.

Ah you got me. My World Assembly impotence is what causes me to hate stomp everyone who has authored more resolutions than me.

Now that the vote is over, I'd like to comment on this.

I agree it was not a momentary lapse in judgement. For a long time I felt bitter that I probably wouldn't get any formal recognition for my contributions to the game because of my politics and religious beliefs. At one point I told myself that I could do whatever I thought was necessary to get it, since this was a political game -- hence the multi and self-commend. I still felt that way after I was caught, at least for a while.

I eventually realized some time later that I was wrong, which is why I apologized. Some people have said that this apology was politically motivated. I can't really disprove those claims -- all I can say is that it was indeed sincere.

I still think the SC is biased against conservative Catholics. For evidence of that, just look at the multiple failed commendation attempts for CD, who does not have my baggage. But at the same time, nobody is entitled to a commendation. It's never okay to break the rules of NationStates. And it's certainly not healthy to want something so bad that one is willing to break the rules to get it.

I mean I said in this thread that I would support a Commend for UM so *shrug*
And yeah, UM is a self-professed social democrat, but his staunch pro-life stance has made him something of an unpopular entity among the pro-choice crowd, which makes up a large part of the crowd you're accusing.

Regardless? It's not a bias against conservative Catholics. I feel like you're using that as a shield to deflect legitimate criticism.
See, NS is a political game. And while that doesn't justify rule breaking for a self-commend? It does mean that if you want to get ahead? You have to play politics within the rules set out. And part of playing politics means networking. It means talking to people, interacting with people in a constructive manner- often people who don't align with your politics or religious beliefs.
FFS man, I'm a gay Jew. And I manage to get along swimmingly with a conservative Catholic in my region. And I'm not even a politically oriented guy. I'm mostly in NS for RP.

My point is that your problem? It's not that you're a conservative Catholic. I've been playing NS on and off since 2006. I can say with absolute certainty that people will work with you provided you're not a racial supremacist. That crap gets you isolated in a hurry but anything else? People will work with you.
So no. It's not your beliefs that have caused these problems for the likes of you and CD. It's how you go about presenting them. Despite all of your accomplishments in the WA? The way you conduct yourself in this game has alienated you from many people outside of your bubble.

Personally? My objections to this commend resolution were rooted in two things; your self-commend attempt and your flagrant non-compliance gameplay. And of the two? The latter was the bigger issue. I firmly believe that you don't deserve a reward from the WA if you're going to flagrantly disregard its legislation. Your religious and moral beliefs didn't factor into it for me.
