As for the trial, I thought Barfleur and Spokane wanted to participate, but I agree that it needs to end. I wonder, what’s next on Mark Shining’s agenda?

Also, what does “Pere Housh” mean?

Random name generator came up with so I used it.

Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?

Same artificial island would do but where would we put it as the spot needs to be in shallow waters.

There’s a spot just off the South-American coast where the depth is only a few hundred metres; that’s the best spot for the Pacific Space Elevator. Our best bet for the Atlantic Space Elevator is the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which is “only” about 2.5 kilometres deep.

Climate change would cause a rise in the sea level, which would mess with those numbers,* but it would increase the depth of the sea uniformly, so in principle the best spots would still be those.**

* According to this website, if all the ice in the world were to melt the sea level would rise by 80 metres. Given that we're talking about depths ranging from hundreds of metres to several kilometres, this wouldn't be a significant change in terms of how deep the sea is. And that's the worst-case scenario; I think a realistic scenario for 2057 would be a rise of 5 to 20 metres, although the recent detonation of hundreds of nuclear weapons surely made a significant contribution to the melting of the icecaps.

** There might be low-lying islands which would be swallowed by the sea after such a rise in the sea level. If you can find one along the equator which lies outside the (redefined to take into account loss of territory due to sea level rise) territorial waters of whichever country used to own the island, we could use that; it would only lie a few metres below sea level, making our job much easier than if we were to pick a spot 2 kilometres down.

We probably should just build an artificial island.

Well, according to this site, the only two parts of Kiribati which would survive a sea level rise like that would be Banaba and Top of Kiribati, both of which lie at 81 metres above sea level and both of which are on Banaba Island; the rest of the country lies at an average of 2 metres above sea level, so it would completely disappear. In particular, Aranuka Atoll lies very close to the equator and doesn't have much biodiversity, so any disturbances to the local wildlife caused by the space elevator would be infignificant. It's over a hundred metres from Banaba, meaning it's well outside of the territorial waters of post-sea-level-rise Kiribati, so it's fair game to anyone wishing to build something there. I think it's a good option.

I'll try to find something in the Atlantic later today. The Atlantic Ocean has no land as close to the equator as Aranuka. The closest island is Annobón, an extinct volcano off the coast of Africa belonging to Equatorial Guinea, but it's high enough to survive even a severe rise in sea level, so it's a no-go. I think the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is out best bet, but it'll be a marvel of modern engineering requiring years of automated labour by international teams. I think we should focus on the Pacific Space Elevator first and only start construction of the Atlantic Space Elevator after it's functional.

New Yugoslavia, as the proponent of this marvellous idea (which I think you haven't proposed in IC yet), what do you think?

I think we can help supply any space elevator close to West Africa. So yes if European countries and Egypt are willing to train astronauts for Sub-Saharan Africans the space elevator will get full support from African Express and OnochieShip.

- Jess Udene & Jane Onochie

My company can provide food to the Atlantic Space Elevator.

- James Idahosa

My refinery can provide affordable fuel for the supply operations

- Joseph Ijeawele

We will use our influence to make sure that Equatorial Guinea will never disrupt the operations.

- Sam Abanigbe & George Adebisi

Israel was using it for their underground troops and community under North America.

P.S. Where do you think the Jews in NAS went? Mark Shining foolishly sent them to destroyed cities and they were picked up by an elite Israeli force.

Announcements:

1. We are building a highway and a maglev railroad from China & Japan to Papua New Guinea. We are very interested in extending them into Australia.

2. We would like to help our friends Spokane and Egypt deal with drought using the same method we have used in Xinjiang. Basically we will cover the rivers completely in dry regions using the Zhang Membrane to reduce water loss through evaporation. Fishermen need to stay under Zhang membranes at work so do swimmers. Baidu L-4 bots will ensure that they won't drown.

3. We are building the Thai canal which takes about a year to complete. After the Thai canal is complete it will be a nice alternative to Malacca Strait.

EastKiekistan, Joseon is kind of a loose socialist confederation, and some of the Korean companies you know of today do not really exist. Only a few, such as Hyundai and Samsung exist here.

Also, our nation is about 1970-1980 tech about, in my signature it says 1940 but that's for something else

Just some info, don't worry

Edit: realized this is in 2050, which means that Joseon probably became more developed, to about a 2010 or 2025 area
