Banijans fall to the Equestrian States as fans hit panic mode on floundering World Bowl campaign

Image
Banijan player reacts after the final whistle of Equestria v. Banija

CANTERLOT, EQUESTRIA- It's been great to be a fan of Banijan teams for the last four or five years or so? It seems as if, at least in the very recent history, that we've had quite a bit of success on the international scene. World Cup 82 was a true disappointment- getting knocked out of the group stages in a group that Banija was probably good enough to get second in, but we were thoroughly outplayed by Pasarga on the last day of that group stage and ultimately, deservedly were knocked out by a last minute winner in that group. While that one most certainly hurt, you can look at that as a marker- since then, there has been quite a bit of success for the various Banijan national teams, and other sides participating in international competition.

Look even at club competition, for one. Look at the most recent edition of the Champions Bowl. The Lwanga Rhinos, Banija's champions in the first ever season that we entered the Champions Bowl, reached the semifinals(ironic, eh?). Herzegovina CIty FC made the knockout stages of the UICA Champions Cup for the first time ever, and of course, the BSL finally moved into the top 32 associations of the UICA, and when that competition starts up again, they'll have a second team in the UICA Champions Cup. In regional competition, it was even better, when Herzegovina City FC actually had a miracle run all the way to the final of the Atlantian Oceania Champions League. And, of course, in the IDLO Champions Cup, the Bunyoro Regional Sporting Club went to their stunning 4th consecutive Champions Cup Final, though they fell to the Mallox Mayhem of Cosumar. Competing for championships has been the way and the mantra for Banijan clubs on the international scene lately. And even in the NSCF, both Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria made the semifinals of NSCF 20, though both schools fell to Cold Hill University of Ranoria- Loyola-Istria doing so at the Istria Lightning Yard in the semifinals, and Northern Moravica following suit at the Karmin-Falce Superdome in the NSCF 20 Championship Game.

That is most certainly a good run of recent results for the Banijans. Deep runs, competing for titles. And while they didn't necessarily win any of the latest versions of these competitions, they've won them before- Loyola-Istria has a pair of NSCF titles, and Northern Moravica has a championship of its own. Bunyoro RSC, naturally, has won the IDLO Champions Cup twice themselves, which makes sense considering Banija's dominant lacrosse club has been to the final every single year of the competition. So nobody's shedding tears for college football fans in the Moravica region, or lacrosse fans in the South. And with the Rhinos ascending on gridiron, while Herzegovina City FC and the rest of the BSL hope to turn their burgeoning status to international success, this much is clear- the standard of sport in Banija is certainly going up.

But then, you look at the national team. We start this, of course, with the obvious- the last World Cup was a disappointment. Not disastrous, not some crazy upset or anything, but indeed, a disappointment. Many of us hoped that would be the moment when the Kadongo Kamu grabbed that next rung on the ladder. And while they certainly didn't regress, qualifying for the tournament with relative ease, while finishing a distant second in their World Cup Qualification group with Brenecia, all while setting a team record for points earned in a single World Cup Qualification campaign, you can't really say they took a step forward either. There are quite a few tiers above Banija on the international level before we're really competing at that level.

But then, in the AOCAFs, the regional championships where we played every single one of our 7 games on home soil(and co-hosted the tournament with the Commonwealth of Baker Park), things changed. IT was like the team found a chord. It was quite a magical run for the Kadongo Kamu, and the whole country was amazed by their success. In the previous three editions of this tournament, the same story rang true. Second place in their group, defeat a group winner in the Round of 16, and then ultimately fall in a valiant effort in the quarterfinals, showing that their talent, while rising, is not quite at the level of the best of the best in Atlantian Oceania. But this run was different. They actually won their quarterfinal, shocking Mriin. They won their semifinal, stunning Cosumar. But in the final, against their greatest rivals, it was the Equestrian States, once again, who were victors. An incredibly painful loss then, but with some perspective, it was quite an enjoyable tournament. And a silver medal for the national team.

That, of course, was just one national team. National teams for Banija have been experiencing quite a bit of success lately. The national baseball team actually not only advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time ever, but even upset host nation Sherpa Empire before eventually falling in the semifinals to the top seeded ladies of Cassadaigua, the tournament's eventual silver medalists and one of the most decorated nations in all of baseball. First bronze medal in that tournament. The Banijan national lacrosse team, after not winning a knockout stage game for the last five tournaments running, finally won one and got back to where it belonged- a bronze medal. Banija's 3rd ever bronze at that tournament.

The bronze medals did not stop with those two tournaments. Look at the most recent edition of the International Basketball CHampionships. Co-hosted by Abaja and Filindostan, Banija came in with heavy championship hopes. Ranked 4th in the IBC global standings, the Pot 1 side was a dark horse favorite to take the crown from Vangaziland. Banija had an excellent 9-1 group stage on the hardwood, and after dropping the opening game of a best of 3 against regional neighbors Valanora, they won four in a row(2 against Valanora, 2 against the Royal Kingdom of Quebec) to match up with the defending champs, Vangaziland. In the much hyped series, Vangaziland dominated Banija and swept us off the floor, though we earned yet another bronze medal.

And then, like we have to mention it, the most recent World Bowl. If you're a reader of this magazine, you likely know about Banija's bronze medal in Ko-oren, so there's no need to say anything about it here. And then, of course, the pinnacle- the 8th Sporting World Cup. The Usana Kadongo Kamu, won the U18 World Cup in soccer, putting a gold medal into the RBSA's trophy case. So with all that success recently, especially competing in a tournament where Banija has been to four previously and won exactly none of them, you'd think Banija would come out firing in this World Bowl, especially with the knockout stages taking place on home soil.

That is not what happened.

The Serpent Eagles are 0-5 away from home this tournament. This including a blowout loss to Velstrania away, and a loss to an Equestrian States squad that has been seriously struggling in this phase. The high hopes of Bnaija fans have come crashing down, with an embarassing performance in League A and a subpar one as well in League B. While the loss to Ranoria wasn't that surprising, considering the two national teams are probably about equal to each other in terms of skill level, the loss to the Equestrian States is. The road struggles might cost Banija a spot in the knockouts entirely. If they fall to Ranoria at the Stadium of the Restoration in Week 5, then it'll set up a do-or-die game against Terre Septentrionale in Week 6 away from home, where the winner takes all and the loser goes home. And then the winner would have to play in another road game, against a League A side, just for a spot in the last 16. Who would bet on a team that is 0-5 on the road so far to win 2 do-or-die games in a row, away from home?

Certainly not this writer. That makes this upcoming one a must-win, especially with a fan base that is now very used to their national teams competing for championships. They won't settle for anything less at this point. If Banija doesn't notch this win over this burgeoning rival, then we imagine things will not be good for the job prospects of Alastair Jobs...

Terre Septentrionale lost again

El Perro, Township of Texas - After winning their first eight games, Terre Septentrionale lost two in a row, and this time against Ranoria they took a huge blow. Ranoria won the coin toss and they scored on their first drive when Mario Terrin caught Derek McNair's 27 yards pass into the end zone. 7-0 Ranoria. Terre Septentrionale made a field goal on their next drive and Ranoria did the same. It was 10-3 Ranoria. The Ranorian team added seven more points just before the end of the 1st quarter when Johnny Farmer caught Derek McNair's 16 yards pass into the end zone and the score was 17-3 Ranoria. In the 2nd quarter, Montavious McBryde reduced Ranoria's lead when he caught Haylie Woo's 18 yards pass and ran to the end zone for a touchdown. Then 5 minutes later, the Nordiques made a 44 yards field goal. The score was 17-13 Ranoria. Ranoria increased their lead with less than two minutes remaining when Ricardo Jackson made a touchdown on a 22 yards pass by Derek McNair and the score was 24-13 Ranoria at the halftime.

Terre Septentrionale started with the ball in the 3rd quarter. They had the ball at their own 42 yards line when Haylie Woo attempted to pass to Jennifer Killebrew but it was intercepted by Alexander von Arris who runs all the way to the end zone for a pick six. Barry Chlorid missed the extra point and the score was 30-13. The Reprezentacja Nordycki answered immediately with a 37 yards field goal. 30-16 Ranoria. Ranoria made a 21 yards field goal before the end of the 3rd quarter and it was 33-16. Early in the 4th quarter, Haylie Woo threw to Jenifer Killebrew in the end zone for a 15 yards touchdown and Ranoria scored another touchdown in the final 5 minutes, thanks to a rushing touchdown by Melvin Strong. The final score was 40-23 Ranoria.

Equestrian States

With this loss, Terre Septentrionale are now tied in 2nd place with Banija with 2 wins and 2 losses but the Serpent Eagles has the tie break because of their head to head win against us. Ranoria is alone in 1st place with 3 wins and just one loss. Anything is possible, but it doesn't looks really good for the Northmen. On matchday two, Terre Septentrionale will be visiting the Equestrian States in their capital city of Canterlot while Banija will receive Ranoria at the Stadium of the Restoration in Busukuma. You know what? I've just realised both World Cup 83 hosts are in our group!

Ranorian Squad Wins Two Straight to Take Control of Dejan Polek Group

To say that this squad has hit their stride would be a gross understatement of what they’ve managed to do in this second phase of the World Bowl.

The past two games, the offense has scored 33 and 40 points, respectively, and if a few things swing their way, they’ve got a chance to clinch a playoff berth with a win over Banija’s Serpent Eagles this week. It will be a tough matchup, but the first one was a decisive win on our end. That being said, we’ve seen Richardson, and Cold Hill, each split with Loyola-Istria in terms of games won and lost.

But Derek McNair, ever the star of the show, has been brilliant in the past two outings. He’s thrown for 6 touchdown passes, and run in another, with no interceptions. The leader of this football team team has been carrying the team on his back, with 97 yards rushing and 531 passing in those two outings. And if he an keep it together, this would be a decisive victory that could send them into the tournament.
Fan of football, the Murican kind. But soccer is cool too! Just not really my thing. C(:^D/-<
I go by Ran. Unless, of course, you want to type out Ranoria. That's your decision.

New English Scare
Shooting right up from League B with six wins out of six, New England settles in well in League A. They haven't had all the luck, but that goes for more of us. They're very capable of making things very difficult for everyone, and even this Ko-oren team in incredible form is no exception. We came away really, really well. So far, the recipe for every game has been 'don't concede, score more than 20, win' or 'concede a lot, don't even come close to their score, lose' but this is a new twist. Both defences came away with three turnovers: three interceptions by the Green and Blue defence, two fumble recoveries and an interception by the Transmodian Commonwealth's defence. Both offences struggled, even if their drives weren't cut short by a turnover. In the end, after four quarters, everyone was staring at 13-13 on the scoreboard. The ongoing New England drive ended due to the clock hitting 0:00 while Jones and his unit still required 48 yards and gambled on a Hail Mary over a 58-yard field goal. The pass fell incomplete, centimetres away from a fourth interception. It's safe to say that both teams didn't play the offensive gameplan they were here for. The occasional gust of wind and the rains pouring down from halftime onward didn't help, either. Both teams retreated to their trenches, and both teams showcased a much run-heavier strategy in the third and fourth quarters. This automatically meant that Ko-oren were worse off: it's been well documented that our run-stopping abilities aren't up to our pass-stopping abilities. Luckily, the same goes for New England and both teams remained closely matched.

At halftime, the scoreboard read 10-10. A touchdown on the opening drive for Herman Jones, a 20 yard pass to Hudson with an uncharacteristic miss for Dwyer, hinted at a long day for the Dragonflies. They added a field goal on their second drive, a 30-yard kick by Metzger. At least it was Ko-oren's time to strike back now. Reeman remained the favourite choice at quarterback after Parkes' lack of form and Arerira's inability to put the team first. Reeman launched a spiral on 3rd and 10, in desperation mode, and found Varafin on the receiving end, in the corner of the endzone. William Burke somehow lacked the length or the jump to contest the ball, and the perfectly placed ball was worth a touchdown, with more luck than anything else. At 0:00 in the second quarter, Bennett was good on a 29-yard field goal, to even things up 10-10.

In the second half, the higher personnel count for New England gave them many, many yards early on and were dangerously close to scoring a few times. Woolworth hit 100 running yards in the second half alone, but even that wasn't enough. On the other side, Arerira was put in at quarterback, his running abilities complemented those of Jurethen, Thorebourne and Mannussen, and there were three runners in the backfield for a lot of plays (QB Arerira, FB Mannussen, and one of the two mentioned as HB). Slowly but surely, the Dragonflies were moving, and drives for both teams took 8+ minutes off the clock, but did not end in a score.

In the fourth quarter, with the rain letting up, both kickers added 3 points to their team's totals, and overtime it was. New England was given the ball, missed a 48-yard field goal, and two first downs for Ko-oren later, Bennett was good on a 33-yard field goal: 16-13.

With four wins, Ko-oren moves on to the knockouts as the group winner, and one of the other three will fall to the playoffs on the next day. Drawkland is our final opponent, who will be looking for revenge on the near-shutout as well as their final chance to directly qualify for the World Bowl proper. In League A, as the 10th ranked team in the Multiverse, 8-3 on the first 11 games in the qualifying groups, against all great teams - this already is a wonderful Bowl. Let's see how long it lasts.

Gridiron Football - yeah, that's an old game even in Ko-oren - Episode 5

So, we've covered the basics. Several basics I've mentioned time and time again, hoping they stick. I think you're probably done with the number 12 now, for instance. That there are three divisions, one professional, one second, and a youth/development division, and that a single franchise operates one team in each division, is probably pretty well known by now as well.

I think you're ready. I think you're ready for Ko-orenite gridiron. I think you've outgrown the title of this series, too. You know it's an old game. You know we've had countless teams begin play, merge or fold, or continue their legacy into the present. I've even dropped some factoids on the locations of the teams. Before I'll let you choose your favourite team in Ko-oren, I think we have to talk about what sets these teams apart on the field. You know, the players.

I can always add a chapter on colours, logos and helmets, if you want. But first: if you want to choose a team, you have to know what the team plays like. Fortunately for you, a team largely keeps its strengths intact via its culture, superseding players, coaches, managers, and other day-to-day activities.

Let's get the Eastern Division up first. It's my favourite division, it's the best division. Two teams favour defence, two teams favour offence, and two teams can make a valid claim to developing both sides of the ball somewhat equally.

The Sterrenwolde Dragonflies and the Noordrug Astronauts are the defensive teams. The Dragonflies have always had a good secondary, limiting yards through the air and amassing interceptions, and they are the team to develop concepts like the nickel defence, and in earlier times, zone defence. Any good QB has to show his skill by going through Sterrenwolde first - but obviously, the Dragonflies do not always have the best defensive backs in the league. More often than not, however, they're ranked in the top 4-5. Offensively, Sterrenwolde goes for short passes, the general 'death by a thousand cuts' philosophy, making the defence back up play after play, but not necessarily through huge gains. The Noordrug Astronauts, then, have a decent corps of defensive backs, but are much more of a linebacker team. If any team has gotten the balance right between hard-hitting, contact-loving tacklers and versatile players that can drop back in coverage from time to time, it's the Astronauts. If any team has developed a 3-4 defence as much as them, using stunts and what not to get their players in the backfield, it's the Astronauts. On the offence, Noordrug chooses to go through the air as well, but honestly they don't really care.

To challenge these defences, two teams have managed to get star after star on the offensive side. These are the Aminey Caspians and the Schemerdrecht 65ers. Aminey, first of all, is a big rival to Sterrenwolde - and instead of taking on their strength head-on, Aminey is a mixed run-pass team using a lot of huge personnel sets (12, 21 and 22-personnel are not unheard of), and the huge crowd around the middle of the field make it hard for any team to find out what's going on. Triple sets (trips right/left) are an Aminey thing to some extent, though the Caspians use it mostly to confuse the opposing defence by putting in a lot of pass-catching backs and tight ends and putting them nice and cosy around the O-line and the quarterback. On defence, Aminey adopted Noordrug's system of going for versatility in a 3-4 system (occasionally 2-5). Next up are the Schemerdrecht 65ers. They've found talent after talent at the wideout position, and they have had plenty of legends throwing to them. There are a lot of O-line techniques coming from the 65ers as a means to keep the pocket clean, for their QB to drop a dime somewhere deep in enemy territory. Several route concepts have sprung from the 65ers as well - as has the passing game to begin with.

Lastly, it's the mixed teams. These are the Schemerdrecht Admirals, rivals to the aforementioned 65ers, and the Aerellen Explosions, rivals to the Noordrug Astronauts. The Schemerdrecht Admirals have always tried to do it all: get a running game, passing game, trench warfare on both units, decent tackling and an above-average secondary. Needless to say, you can't do all of these at the same time. That doesn't keep them from trying, though. The Aerellen Explosions have long played a rugby-like game, and those skills have carried over. The D-line and O-line are very well coached (making them the only team in the East to focus on the D-line!) but they have incorporated some passing in recent decades - they had to, they didn't want to. Ironically Aerellen has one of the best QBs in the league, and uses him to hand off the ball.

West Phoenician War Dancers fans are in a state of celebration as the group cinch first place in their grouping and will move onto the knock out stage.

The cheers begun earlier when fans, many with painted faces of the team colours of purple and blue, many hard core fans had feathered head dresses and carried fake tomahawks the signature items of the War Dancers attire.

The game was against Greater Nordics, who had defeated West Phoenicia in game two of the second phase by a score of 35-20. This was a pure revenge match, the previous match up the team suffered a defeat in front f Empress Angelique Gryphon-Bush and her delegation. The War Dancers were not going to be embarrased again in front of members of the Royal Family.

The scores turned out to be practically identical but West Phoenicia were the victors scoring 36 to 19.

Coach Salvador Di Monti decision to replace a tired Jake Mars with fresh quarterback Tyler Sharpe was the right move move into the last two quarters of the game that saw the War Dancers take the lead and continue it with touch down and field goals, outplaying their opponents who struggled under a beefed up defensive line. The last quarter was the noise level rose as fans knew West Phoenicia were in a winning position and cheers and loud war crimes helped to throw off the opposition.

it was a great win for the team and Greater Nordics is a great team to play against. They are fun and also a challenge. If we can defeat Newmanistan, that should boost Greater Nordics into second place. It would be awesome to see both of us at the finals, with a one-off win another game is needed to see who truly is the best. It would be a great match to watch and the stadium would be standing room only. Salvador Di Monti declared at a post game interview.

West Phoenicia will next take on Newmanistan, win or lose West Phoenicia will still end up on top. However fans are praying for a game win against their forced opponents. Not only will the War Dancers feels vindicated but it will boost their confidence moving forward.

And welcome to another edition of the Sports With Bort blog, I'm your always humble host Bort Stevens. We're continuing our special report on Torisakia's World Bowl 37 campaign that we earlier. Previously, we talked about Torisakia's phase 2 matchday four 24-13 win over Allamunnic States. Today we'll be talking about Torisakia's game and their second meeting with Northwest Kalactin, only this time with a little more defense in it.

Surprise! The defense was not MIA this game! Crazy right? We didn't have a shootout this time with one of the worst teams in the tournament. Funny how that works out when we actually try to stay consistent. I told you that we learned from our past mistakes. The Ice Birds dominated Northwest Kalactin last night en route to a 27-17 victory. The score seems kinda close but when you add in the fact that Northwest Kalactin scored in garbage time it makes it look better. Torisakia garnered 436 yards of total offense and ran the ball up and down the field the entire game. To date it's the best rushing performance by the Ice Birds all World Bowl long. Aaron Spady even ran for a touchdown, adding onto what was already a magnificent night for him as we threw one touchdown, which now puts him as the record holder for the most touchdown passes in Torisakia international team history, and for 243 yards. Michael Prickett had an amazing game, running for 152 yards and one touchdown. On the other side of the ball, the defense made amends for their deplorable performance against Northwest Kalactin last time. They held them to only 176 yards of total offense, only two redzone attempts, and forced four turnovers. This is even including the second string who entered the game midway through the fourth quarter. Whatever Gregory Debay said to these guys after the last Northwest Kalactin and Quebec game he needs to write it down a keep it. I've never seen a team play with this much fire and tenacity in a long time.

Box Score1Q2Q3Q4QFinal
Northwest Kalactin (0-5)037717
Torisakia (5-0)1437327

Torisakia struck first right out of the gate. Only a minute and twelve seconds into the game, Aaron Spady found Cliff Bolden for a 68 yard touchdown to put him at 30 touchdown passes for the World Bowl. This would be the only touchdown pass he threw though, but he would get involved in another score later on. After forcing Northwest Kalactin to go three-and-out, Torisakia struck again on a 42 yard run by Michael Prickett to quickly go up 14-0. Northwest Kalactin would not get past their own 40 yard line for the remainder of the quarter as the Ice Birds' defense shut them down time and time again. However they were able to get points on the board soon into the second quarter on a 35 yard field goal. Torisakia was able to trade a field goal right back some minutes later on a 35 yarder by Matthew DeBerry, who is one of the most solid kickers in the World Bowl as he's only missed two field goals the entire event (but he's missed like 5 PATs). The two teams would enter halftime with Torisakia leading 17-3. Out of halftime, Northwest Kalactin scored almost as quickly as Torisakia did in the first. Their running back scampered 45 yards to bring them within a touchdown. But Aaron Spady was having none of that as just a few minutes later he scrambled for a 24 yard touchdown of his own. It's his first rushing touchdown of the World Bowl as Spady isn't known for being a running quarterback. Seriously his 40 time at the TFL Combine a few years ago when he was drafted was like 12.54 or something it's ridiculous. The third quarter would end with Torisakia leading by two touchdowns. The Ice Birds later made that a 17 point lead with a field goal midway through the final quarter to go up 27-10. Northwest Kalactin would try one last attempt to comeback with 2 and a half minutes remaining when they punched a touchdown in at the goal line to come within 10. The ensuing onside kick was recovered by Torisakia and the Ice Birds came out victorious 27-17.

GAME SUMMARY OF NORTHWEST KALACTIN VS. TORISAKIA
1st QUARTER
13:48 TOR - 68 yard pass from A. Spady to C. Bolden (DeBerry PAT)
7:10 TOR - 42 yard run by M. Prickett (DeBerry PAT)
END OF 1ST Northwest Kalactin: 0 Torisakia: 14

2nd QUARTER
10:29 NWK - 35 yard field goal by unknown Kicker
4:58 TOR - 37 yard field goal by M. DeBerry
END OF 1ST Northwest Kalactin: 3 Torisakia: 17

3rd QUARTER
12:01 NWK - 45 yard run by unknown Running Back (unknown Kicker PAT)
9:28 TOR - 24 yard run by A. Spady (DeBerry PAT)
END OF 3RD Northwest Kalactin: 10 Torisakia: 24

4th QUARTER
7:41 TOR - 41 yard field goal by M. DeBerry
2:26 NWK - 1 yard run by unknown Running Back (unknown Kicker PAT)
END OF 4TH Northwest Kalactin: 17 Torisakia: 27

Torisakia now moves to 5-0 in the Adama Sowe group and, even though I said it wasn't likely to happen this early, has clinched a spot in the playoffs. Earlier I explained some of the scenarios that would have to happen for the Ice Birds to claim first in the group, such as them beating Northwest Kalactin and having Quebec lose to Allamunnic States. I said that Allamunnic States beating Quebec was very unlikely and that chances were Torisakia would have to beat Quebec again to own the head-to-head to get first. Well that didn't go like I thought. Allamunnic States pummeled Quebec 38-9 and handed them their second loss of phase 2. And because Torisakia is undefeated in the group this meant that it was impossible for Quebec to get first, as it doesn't matter who wins the Torisakia-Quebec matchup. So essentially matchday six is a practice game for Torisakia. Quebec can still get second place in the group and play a neutral site game to get into the playoffs, but they either have to be Torisakia OR have Northwest Kalactin beat Allamunnic States. I'm sure there might be a H2H points differential tiebreaker in there somewhere but I'm too lazy to find it. Torisakia is playoff bound baby!

So the next game against the Royal Kingdom of Quebec is basically a practice game for the Ice Birds. There's really no reason to play our starters and risk them getting injured before the playoffs. I say we just play the second string the entire game and get those guys some playing time. They've only played in a few games and even then they're just doing mop-up duty. It would still be nice to win and keep our winning streak going. But as I said before a loss means absolutely nothing in terms of getting to the playoffs. So essentially lets just hope that both teams have fun and that Torisakia comes away a victory, yes?

Welp, that's all I have for today. I'll be back with another edition of Sports with Bort soon to discuss the Torisakia-Quebec matchup as well as take a look at other happenings around the tournament in other groups and preview the next matchday. Take care and the TBI says that because I made violent threats to someone over the Internet that crossed country borders I could potentially face up to 25 years in prison and a T$57000 fine.

Terre Septentrionale beats the Equestrian States on the road

Canterlot, Equestrian States - For matchday 5, Terre Septentrionale had to travel to the Equestrian States, the worst team in the group. You may think it's an easy task, but it's not as easy as it seems because Banija couldn't beat them last week. The Nordiques didn't took the Ponies too lightly and we beat them 44-13. Terre Septentrionale won the coin toss and scored on their first drive when Montavious McBryde ran to the end zone for a 24 yards rushing touchdown. Terre Septentrionale increased their lead before the end of the 1st quarter with a 13 yards receiving touchdown by Nick Donald-McIntyre and the score was 14-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Equestrian States answered immediately with a 42 yards field goal early in the 2nd quarter. The Reprezentacja Nordycki followed with a 36 yards field goal, and the Equestrian states succesfully made a 67 yards field goal with no time left on the clock and the score was 17-6 at the halftime. Well, these ponies can kick further than humans do.

The Equestrian States started with the ball in the 3rd quarter but had to punt after 3 plays. Terre Septentrionale followed with a 43 yards receiving touchdown by Barkevious Hawkins on a screen pass by Haylie Woo. 24-6 Septentrionaux. With less than 6 minutes, the Northmen added 3 more points and the score was 27-6. Early in the 4th quarter, the Equestrian States finally scores a touchdown when Wide Receiver #3 caught Quarterback #1's pass into the end zone. The score was 27-13 Septentrionaux. Terre Septentrionale answered back with a 14 yards rushing touchdown by Barkevious Hawkins. 34-13 Nordiques. On their next drive, the Equestrian States was at their own 36 yards when Quarterback #1 was interceted by Kevin McGinnis for a pick six. 41-13 Reprezentacja Nordycki. Terre Septentrionale made a late field goal and the final score was 44-13.

Banija at home

Once again we have a triple tie in the Dejan Polek group standings with Terre Septentrionale, Ranoria and Banija all having 3 wins and 2 losses. On the final week, Ranoria receives the Euqestrian States while we play against Banija at home. While Ranoria has an easy matchup and will certainly win, anything can happen at the Superdôme Mercedes-Belzile in Ville Jacques-Cartier (which you can call Jacques-Cartier City or Ciudad Jacques-Cartier in other languages). Banija actually stinks on the road, so we could win. On another hand, they're ranked 14th while we're unranked.

Ville Jacques-Cartier is the capital city and the largest city in Terre Septentrionale and it's also our industrial, economic and cultural hub. 98% of the inhabitants of Ville Jacques-Cartier are fluent in French while 58% are fluent in English and 44% in Polish. That means some are fluent in two or even three languages.

OOC: ICly, Gossip Magazine is roughly equivalent to the National Enquirer in terms of credibility. This reporter did not visit the Main Nation Ministry and is, in fact, making up quite a bit of this story. In particular, the "video" in this article is a deepfake based on a porn video.

Main Nation Ministry Part IV: Princess Keller Harrington Caught on Video having Hot Steamy Sex with Sir Koby Theodore
by: Etoile Quenneville

Princess Keller Harrington is the daughter of Joey Harrington, also known as "The Leader" and is the heir apparent to the Main Nation Ministry who will one day be known as "The Leader" in her own right. When I visited the Ministry recently, I was unable to speak with Little Miss Harrington because she is protected by her father to an extreme degree. In fact, it is a miracle that she was permitted to attend high school outside of the Ministry in her senior year because her father refused to even answer my questions about his daughter.

I was, however, able to discover during my visit to the Ministry that Keller hates performing her official duties. She reportedly has been rebelling quite a bit of late and wants to be treated as a normal young adult. That is unsurprising as I couldn't imagine having to perform at social events just because I was born a princess. That has to be horrible for her!

After my return to the Free Republics and the threats lodged against me by the Ministry, I decided that I would not back down in the face of these threats. Thus, I did some investigating around Republica and I discovered that none other than Princess Keller Harrington is the star of a sex tape being passed around on the streets of Republica. The video was reportedly filmed during the Republica Olympics and features Keller Harrington, the princess of the Main Nation Ministry, having sex with National Soccer Team assistant coach Sir Koby Theodore, who was once falsely accused of raping a slut from Felix which was a major international incident around 15 years ago. We have embedded the tape into this article.

While we would normally request comments from all parties involved before publishing the story, we chose not to do so in this case because we didn't want to give the guilty a chance to prepare their denials. We publish the video without any commentary on the events depicted as we believe it is newsworthy and we do not wish to explicitly describe sex acts in the pages of our magazine. However, rest assured that it is really hot and that both Keller and Koby are really good at having sex.

Etoile Quenneville is a reporter for Gossip Magazine who focuses on foreign celebrities. A graduate of 11th Street High School in Republica, Etoile was hired straight out of school by Gossip Magazine. She likes cats, partying and using desperate men for free dinner dates.

The article went live on Gossip Magazine's web site just hours before the game to decide the Kiggwe Mavuto winner. Katakin Maier warned her team shortly before kickoff about the shitstorm Gossip Magazine had just stirred up and expressed her hopes that the Ministry still remained unaware of it. She was relieved, however, that they were not visiting the Main Nation Ministry given the circumstances...

Nailbiter victory over Ranoria at the Stadium of the Restoration leaves Banija with a do-or-die game against Terre Septentrionale

Image
Banijans bring down Ranoria quarterback Derek McNair for an important sack in the fourth quarter

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- Banija had quite the matchup today, against Ranoria. It wasn't exactly winner-take-all, and it wasn't exactly a must-win, and it certainly wasn't do-or-die, but it was close. But it was every single bit of a contest that you'd expect between these two emerging gridiron powers. It was hard hitting, there was not much margin for error, the fans were both energetic and engaged, and ultimately, it came down like many of the games between the Ranorian and Banijan schools do- to the game's final play. Ultimately, the Banijans were able to protect home field, and that gives them a bit of momentum after, frankly, a shocking loss to the Equestrian States, that gives them a do-or-die against Terre Septentrionale in Week 6. Whose ready?

First, let's dive into the game that just finished. IT would be the Ranorians who would start hot in this one. McNair is a Ranorian football legend, and any person can see why- the guy can simply do it all. He can throw the football, and has some of the best legs of any quarterback in this tournament. And mentally, he is a quarterback visionary. He can see the field unlike any other, and it's tough to challenge him. On the first drive, McNair had a brilliant drive of his own. Ranoria went up-tempo for him, and it worked. They were aggressive and took the Banijan defense by surprise, and it worked to perfection. Driving the length of the field, 75 yards, in just 6 plays. McNair went 5/5 passing on the drive for 70 yards, and a designed quarterback run from the 5 yard line saw him leap into the end zone for six points. Ranoria, naturally, converted the PAT.

There wasn't much offense on either side after that for the rest of the 1st quarter. Both defenses became stout, and were forcing three and outs on both sides. THere wasn't room for movement for anyone on the Banijan side- Okparro couldn't hit any holes, Isaka Jawara didn't have throwing lanes, the receivers could not get open. Ranoria, of course, is not exactly known for having a stout defense- so this was a surprise for many observers at this game. But with about 9 minutes left to play in the second quarter, when Banija needed a spark, it would be the speedster Tijan Kujabi who would step up. A low line drive punt by Barry Chlorid was picked up on the hop by Kujabi, and he went to work. The speedster made a man miss, and great blocking set him up sprinting down the sideline. He dove into the end zone, at the culmination of a 58 yard punt return for a touchdown. The special teams touchdown gave the crowd life, and it was tied at 7.

While McNair led Ranoria to a field goal on the next drive, there was not much action after that field goal, and at that point, the score was 10-7 in favor of the visitors. The pressure was on legendary coach Alastair Jobs- would the man who had so much success at Loyola-Istria be made a fool of at the national stadium? It would be on him to make adjustments, and with the team getting the ball to start the second half, it would be shown if he could finally get his dormant offense going. After a block in the back on the kick return, they started the drive at just their own 16 yard line. But then, they grinded away at the Ranoria defense. A 16 play drive, where the Banijans were 4/4 on third down, that took a full 9 minutes off of the clock. The best defense against McNair is keeping him off of the field, and that was true in this moment. The drive ended with a 2 yard touchdown plunge by Black Mamba running back Jalang Tiyana to give the team a 14-10 lead. The momentum from that, however, was short lived.

Derek McNair was always going to have his response. And though the crowd was going, the quarterback who hadn't touched the ball in almost 25 minutes real time, was going to have his say. On 1st and 10, Ricardo Jackson ran what looked to be an out route. As Yonas Azikiwe jumped hard on the pump fake, Jackson turned upfield. McNair threw a bomb. Because of oncoming pressure, however, he could not set his feet and hit the receiver in stride. Jackson had to wait for the football, and while he still caught it, he was brought down by free safety Obi Benti. Still, 45 yards. On the next play of the drive, from the Banijan 23, Johnny Farmer ran an inside post, and at that part of the field, that route by Johnny Farmer is basically uncoverable. The lumbering tight end caught the ball in the end zone, and just like that, the Ranorians responded to a 9 minute drive in just two plays, and took the lead again. 17-14.

Isaka Jawara got a chancd to respond himself, and the Banijans went to work again on what was certainly a tired Ranorian defense. They had the ball and drove down the field, this time going 72 yards. On the final play of the 3rd quarter, on third and goal, Isaka Jawara lobbed one in the back corner to Dobromir Margolin, who was in single coverage against the 5'9 Trent Yewing. Yewing didn't have a chance. Margolin used every part of his 6'3, 220 pound frame to simply outmuscle Yewing to the football. He caught the ball and brought both feet down, and the referee quickly raised his hands into the air. That meant, at the start of the fourth quarter, the Banijans led, 21-17. That also meant, that in the 3rd quarter, the Banijans had 13 minutes and 58 seconds of possession- a stunning total for one quarter.

As they came out again in the fourth quarter, Derek McNair was going to lead a drive of his own. This one went 75 yards in 11 plays, and took just a hair under 6 minutes off of the clock. But the gunslinger was in the zone, and he found superstar tight end Johnny Farmer for his second score of the game, a 6 yard touchdown pass. It was a bubble screen to Javier Gillmore, who juked out Chydi Jel and lept over Obi Benti to find the pylon. 24-21 with just under 9 minutes to play. And unfortunately for the Banijans, things were only going to go from bad to worse. On the first play of the next drive, a RPO was called. Isaka Jawara kept the ball and ran to the right side. He looked for his tight end in the flat, but as he was under hot pursuit from none other than Johnny Farmer(yes, he plays both ways!), he was hit by Farmer while he threw the ball. The ball wobbled out of his hand, and was intercepted by Jakeem Bulter. While the linebacker was brought down almost immediately, this was terrible news.

Ranoria had the lead, and with around 8:30 to go, they had a 1st and 10 coming off a turnover that put them in the red zone. The defense absolutely had to make a stand. And boy, that's exactly what they did. The first two plays were running plays that were stopped for no gain. On third down, outside pressure got to McNair, and the quarterback had to take a 9 yard sack. While they were still in field goal range, they, of course, were still going to be in a one possession ball game. Chlorid kicked the ball through the uprights for his second field goal of the night, from 45 yards, and made the score 27-21 in favor of Ranoria.

This was Isaka Jawara's time to shine. And boy, did he shine. Got the ball with about 6:30 left- still plenty of time, of course, but naturally that meant possessions were at a premium. But after moving the football with some pace, wtih about 2:30 left, the Banijans had a 1st and goal from the 9 yard line. Ranoria, naturally, had 2 timeouts. They forced Ranoria to use them both. And then, with just over 2:20 left on the clock, on 3rd and goal, Jawara threw a 9 yard touchdown pass to Margolin. Margolin's second touchdown reception of the game, as he outmuscled Yewing to the football once again. Chioma Uchie kicked the go-ahead extra point, and with just over 2 minutes left, the Banijans led by a single point, 28-27.

This game's story, however, was not done being written. Derek McNair was not going to let that be the end of the game. The star quarterback was going to will his team down the field, and wanted badly to clinch the group with a game to go. He engineered a brilliant drive. With no timeouts for them, they went down a great distance on the field, to the 20 yard line. However, with 25 seconds left in the game, Elias Mulu had a massive sack, costing Ranoria 9 yards. They had to hurry back to the line of scrimmage just to get the spike off. And with 7 seconds left, it would be Chlorid who'd have a chance to win it from 46 yards.

A lot of pressure on this young kicker, from a country that is known for their kicking woes. Both teams were clear of timeouts- there would not be icing the kicker here. Both teams were on their knees on their respective sidelines. The ball, however, wasn't even snapped. A 5 yard false start penalty pushed the Ranorians back even further. This would be an extremely tough kick- 51 yards. The crowd was going nuts. White towels waving everywhere, the decibels climbing, and this Siovanijan designed stadium was rocking. The snap was good. The hold was good. The entire stadium watched with held breath as Chlorid's leg swung through the ball, and it went sailing through the air. It was clear that he got just enough leg. However, the ball was just wide right, being about a foot wide of the posts.

The stadium erupted. Banijan players jumped up and celebrated, while Alastair Jobs pumped his fist as a huge smile broached his face. The job was finished, home field was protected. But there was no time to celebrate- the decisive match loomed ahead.

As the host nation, of course, you'd think road struggles wouldn't be such a huge deal, since the knockouts would all take place on home soil. They have to get to home soil first, however. Because it was only a one point victory for the Banijans, Ranoria are still the bettor's favorites to win this group. That will make Banija's visit to francophone Ville Jacques-Cartier all the more challenging. Everything's on the line for both teams. The beginning of the knockout stages, for all intents and purposes with respect to Terre Septentrionale and Banija, begin in Week 6 in Ville Jacques-Cartier. A victory in that one guarantees the winner passage to the next round. The loser? Likely eliminated, unless Equestria can pull off a shock result at the Karmin-Falce Superdome(something that we deem pretty unlikely). We'll see if Banija can pull off their first road victory of the tournament, or if Terre Septentrionale can ensure that, for the second time, Banija is eliminated in the group stages of a World Bowl that we're hosting.

This one, naturally, will be on public television. As always, go Serpent Eagles!

OOC: Followup from my World Cup RP here

South Covello World Bowl Watch Party, Donkey Hotay Bar, Riverview

Hundreds of people were gathered inside Donkey Hotay Bar in Riverview to watch South Covello's final World Bowl match of the Second Group stage. All of a sudden, someone in a burqa started screaming.

"WHY AREN'T THERE ANY WOMEN ON THE WORLD BOWL TEAM? AND WHY ARE WE IN A BAR WHERE ALCOHOL AND BACON ARE SERVED! THIS IS DISRESPECTFUL TO MUSLIMS, AND FOR THAT, WE SHALL HAVE OUR REVENGE!"

The woman then detonated a bomb, killing 101 people in the bar and wounding another 93.

Simultaneously....

Peter's Pie Shop, Riverview

Peter Pieper was, as usual, running his pie shop, when someone walked in.

Peter Pieper: Hello, sir, how can I help you?

Person: I am not a sir.

Peter Pieper: I am so sorry, ma'am, how may I help you?

Person: I am not a ma'am, either. I am a gender-neutral androgynous transgender quatrasexual polyamorous human who would like to order a childsberry pie.

Peter Pieper: A what?

Person: A childsberry pie.

Peter Pieper: We don't have that kind of pie, I don't even know that that is. We have peach, apple, cherry, banana cream, chocolate cream, triple berry, double berry, berry apple, boysenberry -

Person: WHAT WAS THAT LAST ONE?

Peter Pieper: Boysenberry.

Person: DID YOU JUST ASSUME MY GENDER?

The person then detonated a bomb, destroying Peter's Pie Shop and the precious pies, and killing all 27 people inside, including Peter, his wife Rebecca, and their three year-old twins, Kelly and Belly, plus numerous customers.

SImultaneously....

Carter Redwin Campaign Headquarters

A group of 17 people, including black people, immigrants, and people wearing burqas, turbans, and yarmulkes assembled outside Carter Redwin's campaign headquarters. All at once, they screamed "FUCK CARTER REDWIN! HE IS A FASCIST AND MUST DIE FOR WE ARE THE ANTIFASCIST RESISTANCE!" and proceeded to throw a series of firebombs at the building, completely destroying it. Nobody was inside at the time, as Redwin had taken his entire campaign staff out to lunch at a steakhouse two doors down from Peter's Pie Shop. They then fled throughout the area to avoid arrest. An all-points bulliten was put out by the South Covello Bureau of Investigation, and a few of the perpetrators were caught, but two killed themselves before being captured, and a third said nothing except claim his name was Mohammed al-Jabari and he was the President's gay lover.

Slowly, news began to filter into the steakhouse, and Redwin gave a "spontaneous" speech to the media that had assembled.

Chris Ruth's Steakhouse, Riverview - Carter Redwin's Speech

"Good evening, South Covello. Today is a dark day in history. Today, we saw just why we need to Make South Covello Great Again! Great crimes of terror have been wrought on our nation by various people who do not make our country Great. Immigrants, Muslims, Jews, sexual perverts like our Presidentress al-Jabari, they will all pay for their sins! If I am elected, we will punish them severely! Presidentress al-Jabari won't arrest them, I'm sure, but I will. I will make them pay!"

All of a sudden, an aide came over and whispered something in Redwin's ear and his face went red with fury.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have just been informed that South Covello police have arrested one of the terrorists who blew up my campaign headquarters and killed 517 of my Greatest Supporters, despite the Fake News Media saying nobody was killed there. His name is Mohammed al-Jabari, and I have also been informed he is Presidentress al-Jabari's gay lover. It is now clear that the Presidentress and his gay lover are traitors to this nation, who like the Muslim Menace, the Jew Menace, the Gay Menace, the Atheist Menace, the Black Menace, and all the others, must be destroyed! It is clear who is responsible for the events of today, and they will perish! We must purge our nation of all of them, only then will we Make Our Nation Great Again!"

At that, Redwin departed the stage to thunderous applause to a new campaign headquarters building, which had somehow already been purchased and fully furnished, and he had a talk with Dominick Hickwood, his campaign manager.

New Carter Redwin Campaign Headquarters

Dominick Hickwood: Wow, Carter, we're skyrocketing in the polls at this latest news. We're actually beating Hale, if that is his real name, by a margin of 56 to 44. Do you think he really is his gay lover?

Carter Redwin: Truth is what we say it is, Dominick.

Dominick Hickwood: What are you saying?

Carter Redwin: I'm not admitting to anything.

Dominick Hickwood: What would you.... Oh my God, you did all this? This was a false flag? What a brilliant idea you had! I just wish you had told me so I could better capitalize on it!

Carter Redwin: Well I am a Very Stable Genius, I could handle it myself.

Dominick Hickwood: That you are, your support is through the roof and this scandal may even force Hale to resign and have an early election.

Carter Redwin: No, I want the attention to be on that scum for the next eight months.

Dominick Hickwood: Whatever you say, you're the genius.

David Hale Denies All Allegations Against Him

President David Hale issued a brief press release this evening, denying all allegations against him, including the birth certificate claims and that Mohammed al-Jabari was his gay lover. His opponent, Carter Redwin, was quick to blast him on Twii.tur for denying the allegations rather than condemning the attacks, despite the fact that Hale had given a 35-minute speech earlier in the night condemning the events of the day. When the media pointed this out, Rewdwin sent out a Twii denying this as "FAKE NEWS" and promising to "ban the FAKE NEWS media" if he was elected.

It's the final day of league play at World Bowl XXXVII. Whose tournaments will end here? Who will continue on to compete for NS gridiron's most prestigious trophy?

From this point forward, the stakes will be rising. All games played after this cutoff- do-or-die. Win or go home. Only 20 will remain, and they will compete to see who is the last man standing. Everything you went through to get to this point turned you into something, right? Let this final cutoff separate the contenders from the pretenders.

GEEKTIVITIES
Celebration edition!

Hello, I am your extremely enthralled speaker, Gary Rozensweig! Even though I knew we were getting out of our group since Matchday 5 I've finally decided to release the joy, the emotion, and the patrioticness that has wrapped around these 6 games! At the studio, we're celebrating being top of a group for the first time in Geektopian sports history, being #1 in Phase 2 in terms of Points For, and being #1 in Phase 2 in terms of Point Difference! Speaking of celebrating, the Geektopian fans in MD5 and MD6 sure did a lot of that, considering that the scoreline was a combined point difference of 90-16. Anyways, what we were going to talk about after my poorly worded introduction is here now. Will the Greens crumble to pressure or go on to the next stage undoubtedly marking their readiness? Probably not, since Sophie has scored 74% of touchdowns and carried the team on their backs. I'm sure the manager will work on this noticeable flaw and bring in players that don't show up for billions of dollars.

Keller Dates Jason: Want A Drink?

Keller returned to the Madden house, wondering if Jessica was busy with her current album, only to decide that she was nervously drinking bubble tea on the lounge chair on the front yard in the middle of the afternoon. "Uhhh, where's Jessica and Gerald?" Keller asked, where Jessica had just noticed Keller. "Oh them? Charlie is in the house, while Gerald is trying to deal with some bull-" Jessica took a bit of a pause before continuing. "He's dealing with some gossip magazine having information about me without my consent. Didn't even know how they even knew." Jessica said, sipping her tea. "Why hadn't I heard about this?"
"The gossip magazine is from Free Republics. They are usually checked at one of your little ministries or whatever. Thing is, they denied it being shown in the nation, but I read what was on it. Damn parasites.."
"A bit private?"
"I'm not so self-absorbed and whiny that I bitch about my problems to the media, Keller. Just because you're famous doesn't mean you whine about it to the tabloids."

"I uhh... want you to help me arrange something.."
"With what?"
"..."

Keller didn't give an answer, but Jessica immediately knew what it was. "Keller, you do realize it's normal for you to be tsundere, right?" Jessica told her. "What's a tsundere?" "Keller, as someone who manages to not get annoyed at how slow the government monitored internet is, I know a lot of stuff that you don't need to worry about." Jessica reassured Keller, as she finished off her bubble tea. "So you help me with a...drink with Jason Masami?"
"Bitch please, I'm friends with him! I know what to do!" Jessica stood her and brushed off some stuff on her outfit, before leading Keller to the house.

Jessica started to pick a special spot somewhere in Victory Square in the name of the Coffee Cabana, where Brenda would usually get some pastries for catering to please the band. The cafe was currently half-empty, since it was the afternoon, though Brenda tends to get the food around this hour. Jessica and Keller were at a table in a far end corner, where they each ordered some coffee. As usual, Keller had her cup with cream and sugar. "I don't think this is a good idea, Jessica.." Keller said, where she was starting to get nervous. "Don't worry, Keller. You will be fine. You do need to have some sweetheart with you, you know?" Jessica said, as she had called Jason to meet her at the cafe. "So what should I say when I see him?"
"Just talk with him and take the wheel from there."

Eventually, Jason Masami did arrive, parking his eco-friendly sports car in the parking lot, where some fans took note. "And why I picked this table is because of the curtains." Jessica told Keller, as she was ready to shield the curtains to hide their table from the rest. Entering the restaurant, Jessica called Jason over to meet with her and Keller. "Jessica, I didn't realize you gotten a reservation here. Oh, Princess Harrington! I didn't realize you were here?" Masami asked Keller, where she started to blush. "Where's Charlie, by the way?" he also asked.

"Oh her? She told me she wanted to listen on the news about a new random surge of demons coming in? Demons that have to do with cats?" Jessica told Masami.

"So Masami? How's the racing career?" Keller asked, taking a nervous sip with her coffee.
"Oh good! I'm having fun. I hadn't been able to snag any races outside of the nations, but I'm already reserved for the Olympics."
"That's nice.." Keller said, blushing a little. Jessica probably guessed that she was seeing him as manly, where she can tell that Keller was already interested in him. "So Masami, anything go on at the game?" Jessica asked.
"We having a good lead in the World Bowl. We might not win, but we're still high up. Though I heard the tabloids are going crazy in Free Republics for some reason."
"..."
"Hey Harrington? How's stuff as the princess? The Leader seems to be doing most of the work for you?"
"Well, I don't know what he's doing, but it isn't in my grasp to control it, so.."

"Hurry the fuck up! The big guy is coming and he is going to use all of these corpses to break down the fucking door!" a prisoner yelled, as the prisoner Kierlaun had been causing a prisoner uprising and cleared through most of the obstacles like a breeze. Brandon and Hoffman were close behind him to not get left behind in the trail of destruction he left behind. At the other cell block, they were still trying to break down that metal door and the pile of corpses in front of it were a bad warning sign. "Guys, I managed to snag a fire axe from the guard station!" another prisoner yelled, as he shoved the ones who were alive and tried to chop the door down with the ax. "Shit! It's not working!"
"We gotta resort to using the battering rams again!"
"No! We already went through that they don't work! C'mon, guys!"

"Holy shit, he's here!" a prisoner yelled as Kierlaun came in, looking ready to break the door down with a single punch.

"He doesn't let me handle some things. It's weird, because I don't know what he does in his spare time." Keller said to Masami, while a shaking Jessica had ordered herself a new cup of coffee, this time black. "He probably is a fanboy of me. Though I heard he's a rockstar."
"Doubt it."
"By the way, you were so nervous that one day. Were you a fanboy of me, also?" Jason asked, where Masami perked up. "No...Yes?"
"I can give you an autograph, if you want."
"I..stop that.." Keller started to have her face redden, where she tried to think of something, where she said the most simplest of answers.

"Alright!" Keller immediately forced a smile. However, the most she forced it, it started to become natural, as Jason wrote his name down on a picture of himself. "You know many people ask how I manage to fit my hair under that helmet, but it's very simple if you observe my helmet, because you see.." Keller was starting to listen in to Masami, where Jessica was starting to have herself a bad day by being reminded of the tabloids. However, things started to look for all three of them.

Expect one.

Libel: Targeting the Scapegoat

"Sir...We intercepted a video of what appears to be Princess Harrington with an unknown man. We are getting word that it was originally uploaded by Gossip Magazine, though the creator of the official video is still unknown." an operative from the Ministry of Redacting said to the Leader in his office. "What is this video? What did Gossip Magazine do now?" "Leader, sir. They shown the messages we send them to cease and desist. However, the author Etoile Quenneville had immediately ignored us and even mocked us. She had published an article with the video, claiming that.." the operative immediately cut himself off, because he knew what he said to the Leader would literally get him killed.

"Uplink this video to me."
"Sir, I don't think you should see the video."
"Uplink it to me now! I won't kill you, since I'm giving you a headstart!" The Leader demanded as the operative hesitated at first, until they had the video uplinked to him on a computer that the Leader had. The Leader didn't seem phased at first, since the actual video he recognized was clearly edited. The Leader already knew that Keller couldn't have sex with this individual, since he saw that the video took place in Free Republics, which he already knows that Keller had rarely been to that nation. And even if she did, she had bodyguards and security cranked up to alert the Leader if anything happened. "What the hell does you have to say about this, Etoile?" the Leader said, as he started to read the article. Some words started to speak out to him, which he grew weary.
"Princess Keller Harrington is the daughter of Joey Harrington, also known as "The Leader" and is the heir apparent to the Main Nation Ministry who will one day be known as "The Leader" in her own right."

"What the hell?" the Leader said, as he started to get his locket from the suit pocket to grip.
"She reportedly has been rebelling quite a bit of late and wants to be treated as a normal young adult."

"She IS normal.." the Leader started to get mad, since he gave her what she needed to be normal.
"That is unsurprising as I couldn't imagine having to perform at social events just because I was born a princess. That has to be horrible for her!"

"Horrible? You don't even know what she been through!" the Leader started to see red.
"However, rest assured that it is really hot and that both Keller and Koby are really good at having sex."

"Fucking lies.." the Leader sat there, getting his pistol ready to shoot the monitor, when he was starting to think up what the next article of Keller was going to be like. In a moment of despair, he imagined something horrible that had crossed his mind.
"Princess Keller Harrington is confirmed to be the daughter of General Winston Harrington, who had committed a severe degree of crimes against humanity. Knowing both of them, Keller Harrington is destined to follow in this path, knowing that the Leader had helped her, since he sees her as a daughter since his own got-"

BANG! BANG! BANG!

A soldier ran in to see the Leader madly shooting off rounds at the computer monitor, where he started to throw the gun at the monitor to make sure it was fully destroyed. "Sir! Calm down! Please, maybe I can get you an amnestic to calm you down! Please, sir! You have a mental breakdown-"
"Shut up! Say another word and I get the black boxes!" The Leader yelled, where the soldier squealed. "Now listen here!"

"I'm heading over to Free Republics, where I'm going to teach everyone who works at that shitshow Gossip Magazine a fucking lesson! Anyone who takes fucking shit about Harrington again will be executed!" the Leader yelled, steaming in rage as he marched out of his office. He was going to pay a trip to Free Republics to see who Etoile Quenneville was. He knew that he was going to conduct a real interview with her. Of course, he imagined that it was actually Jasper Chutings idea the whole time, seeing how he was nearly arrested and this could be considered payback.

However, seeing how the Leader was, things were about to get rather serious.

West Phoenician Taipan found in rival teams mailbox.

Throughout the long history of West Phoenicia many citizens and non citizens have met the fate of the West Phoenician Taipan or West Phoenician Red Scorpion. At first it was written off as a coincidence, but when more people especially someone's rival, or political opponent ended up dead with a Taipan slithering away or scorpion in someone bedding, authorities became more concerned. It was soon dubbed 'West Phoenician Justice' a sneaky and indirect way to rid someone of their rivals without having to get to close to the target.

This West Phoenician Justice has reared its ugly head during the World Bowl XXXVII. When a West Phoenician Taipan was waiting in the letter box of the Velstrania Gridiron Manager. While a postal worker was injured in the removal of the Taipan, the intended victim was unharmed.

West Phoenician Team Coach Salvador Di Monti denied that any player was involved in the malicious act, and it sounded more like the work of someone to frame the good reputation of the War Dancers.

An unknown source however has contacted Norma Mansfield, one of West Phoenicia's famous gossip columnist, that the person responsible may be Miss Patty Lang; girlfriend of star quarterback Marc Okinawa may be behind the deed. Rumour has it if the team wins he is to propose to the West Phoenician Model who works for Peach Inc, a top modeling agency in West Phoenicia. Miss Lang's agent has denied of his clients involvement stating she was away for a photo shoot for a new line of high heel shoes.

With backs against the wall, Banijans rally with 30 unanswered points to keep World Bowl XXXVII hopes alive

Banijan players celebrate Dabromir Margolin's(#17) touchdown in their victory against Terre Septentrionale

VILLE JACQUES-CARTIER, TERRE SEPTENTRIONALE- The oncoming of a new format, from our perspective as journalists, has been largely a success. There have been no easy rides for anybody to the knockout stages- and with 12 berths in the knockout stages safely secure, and four one- game playoffs to determine the bottom four teams to make the knockouts, it will be a wildly entertaining finish. Now, of course, we’re biased- there are certain to be complaints about this format. Look at even the star-studded matchups in the Round of 16. Cosumar is ranked 5th in the World Bowl standings. They would have been a Pot 1 side in a more traditional format. And yet, they will be there fighting for their lives in a Play-In game, albeit at home, against a team that also would have likely cruised in a traditional format, Newmanistan. However, for broadcasters, that will be a fun one. And the decision to have those League A/B Play-In games home and away? It’ll be an electric atmosphere in Cosumar for that one, we assume. And even though both South Covello and Vangaziland were winless in League A, each still has one game, on their home field, to get a spot in the last 16. We shall be entertained!

The knockout stages, as Banijan football fans already know, have already begun for the Serpent Eagles. How is that possible? Of course, thanks to the way the standings shook out, and Ranoria’s expected blowout victory at home over the Equestrian States to win the Dejan Polek group, it meant that the game in Ville Jacques-Cartier would decide which one of the two teams would go to the Play-In games, and which one of the two teams would see their tournament end that night. Banija hadn’t won a road game all tournament, and to actually take advantage of the benefits of being hosts, they’d have to do something they hadn’t done all tournament- win a road game. This was the test of the tournament, and of course, the Job of Alastair Jobs(no pun intended) was almost certainly unofficially on the line. Could they pull it off? Could they defeat the unranked upstarts, and take one massive step towards playing a knockout stage game on home soil?

They struggled to start this football game. A pair of solid drives from the Terre Septentrionale offense, some long drives but good drives, were able to reach the red zone in the first quarter. Fortunately for the Serpent Eagles, however, the defense, knowing the stakes of this game, stepped it up a notch when Terre Septentrionale got the ball down inside that red zone. On their first drive, they got to the 18 yard line, and then, the defense held like a brick wall. A screen pass to Killebrew was snuffed out for no gain, then a McBryde carry only went for a yard. On third down, Haylie Woo, who was under pressure, was forced to throw the ball away. A 35 yard field goal gave them a 3-0 lead. On Terre Septentrionale’s next drive, they got down to the 7. But once again, the Serpent Eagles clamped up. Ferguson-McCloud looked like he was about to make the catch in the end zone, and got his hands on the ball, but saavy veteran Yonas Azikiwe saved a sure touchdown with a brilliant defensive play, as he got his hand in there and knocked the football out of the hands of Ferguson-McCloud. A 2nd down carry went for three yards, and on third down, Richardson University player Isaiah Bryce, on a play where the Banijans played a lone safety and brought in an extra linebacker, got a 5 yard sack on the quarterback. Another short field goal later, and the home side were up, 6-0.

The crowd was getting into this one. The nation could sense that this might be their night. But Isaka Jawara had a surprise in store for them. The two-time former NSCF Offensive Player of the year, and the former NSCF Most Outstanding Player, had something in store. They needed a big play- something that would quiet this energetic crowd, something that would ensure that the defense’s ability in this one to prevent the home offense from scoring touchdowns would actually matter. And boy, did they have a play. This play, however, wouldn’t come till the end of the half. The defenses had been dominant to that point, but with about 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, Jeremiah Johnson, a believer in the speed in space mantra, decided to attack this defense. The play? A flea flicker. Lining up in a jumbo pistol, he had Tiyana on Jawara’s left, tight end Sillah to Jawara’s immediate right, and Okparro as the deep back. He snapped the football, and the ball was handed off to Okparro, who went straight up the middle. But of course, right before he hit the line, he pitched it back to Jawara. The defense had been fooled. Both safeties had come crashing down, and Kujabi had a step on Lewis-Harris. He delievered a perfect ball, and Kujabi caught the ball in stride. Lewis-Harris didn’t have a chance to catch him. Just like that, 68 yards later, the game was tied, and after the PAT, the Banijans took the lead.

After that big time score, the Serpent Eagles never looked back. They had quick drive at the end of the 1st half, that ended in a 53 yarder to end the half, and make the score 10-6. The largely francophone crowd, while loud and engaged in the first half, did not have much to cheer about in the second half. The Banijans hit their foot on the gas pedal. A long drive in the 3rd quarter made it 17-6, and a pair of field goals on their next two drives after that, one from 45 yards and the other from 33 yards, made the score 23-6. The icing on the cake for this game, however, was when, with about 5 minutes left, Terre Septentrionale pretty much had to go for it on fourth down. 4th and 2, from the Banijan 45 yard line, but with 5 minutes left and down 17? What choice did they have? They looked for a hard comeback route to throw to Ferguson-McCloud, but the route was jumped by Amadi Chikere and the ball was intercepted. Chikere ran with the football down the sideline, and was caught by the running back at the 17 yard line. But still- that was effectively the icing on the cake. A 12 yard touchdown run by Isaka Jawara sealed the deal two plays later, and there was no more scoring the rest of the way, with the Banijans victors by a socre of 30-6.

Now, of course, as the format demands, as a group runner-up in League B, they must travel to the home stadium of a League A last place finisher, and battle it out there for the right to return to Banija. The team they were drawn with? None other than Vangaziland. They won their original group in League B, before going 0-6 in League A. They’ve lost 7 of 8, but of course, those last 6 were in League A- where the Banijans went 1-5 themselves. It’s hard to compare the teams. A do-or-die on the road, where the Banijans have struggled. Just remember, Terre Septentrionale was the first road game we won throughout the entire tournament. That said, this will be the last road game we play in this tournament, win or lose. If we lose, well, the tournament is over. And a lot of questions will have to be asked of Alastair Jobs. Getting eliminated before the last 16 would be an utter disappointment in the eyes of most Banijan fans. What will that mean for his future as the national team’s head coach?

On the other hand, a win would give Banijan fans a lot of hope. Now, of course, even if they win, they’d have a tall task ahead of them- they’d get to play one of Pridnestrovia, the Federation of Free Republics, or the Main Nation Ministry- none of whom are appetizing opponents for this bunch. But they’d have one thing going for them- home field advantage throughout the playoffs. With all of the knockout games played in Banija, they’d have a huge fan following, and that home field advantage, in this sort of environment, is something that can make a difference. However, for us to even talk about that, we have to get there first. Just because of Banija’s form in this previous game, and against Ranoria, we have to imagine that the Serpent Eagles are slight favorites against Vangaziland, but they are going on the road- anything can happen.

The stakes will be high. We imagine that the ratings will be as well, on public television and public radio. Lastly, as always, go Banija!

Приднестровская Гридиронная Суперлига
PRIDNESTROVIA AT THE WORLD BOWL

WORLD BOWL XXXVII PHASE 2 RECAP

Hello there, friends, comrades, and fellow fans in gridiron. I'm back with yet another recap of Phase 2 of World Bowl XXXVII, and now we know who has gone through to play in Banija and who has to stay behind and watch the rest play out on their TVs or computers or mobile devices or wherever. Yes, it's true. Phase 2 of the World Bowl is now over, but all this means is that the really tough games are only coming up ahead. Let's not waste any more time talking and babbling; let's get down to business already. Destiny and history awaits us.

World Bowl XXXVII Phase 2 Special!: League A Matchdays Four, Five, and Six
Pridnestrovia 10 20 17 13 50
Taeshan 3 3 7 3 16

Velstrania 6 14 6 3 29
Pridnestrovia 3 3 7 14 27

Pridnestrovia 7 6 14 10 37
South Covello 0 7 0 7 14

Three games; two wins, one loss. Of course, I would have preferred if we won three out of three games but I will take two wins out of three, especially when both wins are very much commanding ones. Well, on the one hand I love that we scored 50 points against former World Bowl champions Taeshan, but then another part of me is slightly worried that Taeshan have fallen this far since they did indeed become World Bowl champions just a few years ago. It's not everyday that a gridiron team scores 50 points against their opponents, but on that day, playing at home against Taeshan, that day just happened to be that day. Do you know what I mean? I hate to overuse what I believe to have become a cliche of mine, but this was a day in which everything just went right for Pridnestrovia and almost everything went wrong for Taeshan. Even in the Fleftic National League of American Football, which we all know is heavily lopsided and balanced more towards the offensive teams, 50+ point games are a rarity. This season seems to have brought up a fair few such games but we're not here to talk about that. We're here to talk about Pridnestrovia versus Taeshan. Except there's not much more left to say. Andrey Nikitich Medvedev had perhaps the best game of gridiron in his life, and his twin brother Demyan Nikitich scored three out of Pridnestrovia's five touchdowns in this game. Great game, guys. GG 10/10 will play again.

Now, up against Velstrania, we saw nothing of the strength and skill that saw us triumph over Taeshan the last time around. This time Velstrania had the upper hand against us, plain and simple. They played the better game; they were simply the better team. No getting around that. Two touchdowns in the second quarter though... Sometimes you just cannot fight against fate. And I had already felt like Pridnestrovia was fated to lose at least one more game in Phase 2. No way in hell that we were going to be allowed to cakewalk Phase 2 if fate was to have their way. Pridnestrovia did try to fight back, and we scored two touchdowns in one quarter of our own, but by that point it was a case of too little too late. Maybe a very unlikely safety could have saved the Red Army's asses, but it didn't happen. Velstrania are too smart to risk a safety that would tie the game. Just our luck, right?

At least we redeemed ourselves somewhat in the rematch against South Covello. And by somewhat I mean we really redeemed ourselves. And by ourselves I mean Andrey Nikitich Medvedev. I can no longer count the number of times that I have sung the praises of Andrey Nikitich, but when you see how he does it, you just cannot help but praise him. It is almost like a reflex; you see Andrey Nikitich play, you praise him. Of course, I have been critical of Andrey Nikitich when he deserves it, and I am going on the record that Andrey Nikitich still needs to work on his pocket skills, specifically getting out of the pocket once it collapses. He really needs to learn how to scramble. And now that that is out of the way, I am now once again free to praise CSKA Tiraspol's starting quarterback. That being said, I have little else to say except, "bravo."

And that does it for me for this edition of the Phase 2 recap of World Bowl XXXVII. The recap of Season IV of the Pridnestrovian Gridiron Super League will be back tomorrow, provided that I am not too drunk from Pridnestrovia either winning or losing in the World Bowl. But until then, comrades, До свидания.

World Bowl Playoffs

Geektopia is flown all the way to Banija in order to play a single game to decide whether they get a seat at the big table. So was Amurbia. Both were the best two teams in League C at the end of stage 2, and even though it is an official World Bowl knockout game, I'm sure that the loser wouldn't exactly be considered to have been to the World Bowl proper. So close, yet so far. The same goes for the other Play-In games, between South Covello and Newmanistan, Cosumar and Allamunnic States, or Vangaziland and Banija. Yes, the hosts of the World Bowl played in the League system, dropped from A to B, the qualified for the Play-In as a League B runner-up. As confusing as the qualification system was... it sure was fun.

Between the League C heavyweights, Amurbia stays in Banija and will face the first seed. Geektopia will go home. Both of our group mates, Cosumar and Newmanistan, will join the already qualified teams as well, while the Allamunnic States are absent from this edition. At this point, you'd still be wondering who the first seed is. The answer will shock you.

But, before we're there, let's look at the Dragonflies team that will also play in the first round of the World Bowl proper. On the offence, we see that Reeman is the last man standing in the quarterback fight, leading an offence that has gradually gone for more and more yards, with longer and longer passing plays. The offensive coaches repeatedly reel him in and make him play a slower game, which works fairly well and brings out the best in our tight ends, the stars of this side of the ball. Van Luttert came from nowhere to be on the national team, and excels in receiving and blocking. Pwlh and Tharadhen share reps, with one better at blocking and one better at receiving. Van Luttert's development surprised many of us who know him as an extra lineman at his Schemerdrecht 65ers. The offensive line has done well to keep Reeman clean, though part of that is in the changed playcalling which doesn't just pit the five on the line against the defence. Instead, there is usually a blocking tight end or running back - or both.

As expected, it is the defence that have really kept this team in every single game. Where the offence fails to match shootouts and eventually loses us the game, the defence decides games on its own. They keep the opponent under 20 points or so, and as long as that works, Reeman and his receivers need only three touchdowns. The defensive line remains suspect, with some players refusing service on some downs. The tackles are happy to play, but the ends had expected a bigger role. Behind them, the linebackers have feasted on O-lines and quarterbacks, and have tackled many backs behind the line of scrimmage. As long as the line is alright with playing second fiddle, this front seven (or six) will wreak havoc. Henry and Gunmothinden both record over a sack per game, and Henry is on pace for nearly two per game. Fokke and Kinportinden can penetrate the line to stop inside runs, both recording at least two tackles for a loss in every single game so far - except the losses.

The secondary is incredible: in twelve games, there have been eighteen interceptions and many, many pass deflections. Dollen and Mesjathaunthen are the regular safeties, operating together in over two thirds of all snaps, and have perfected the art of sitting in the flat and jumping on passes. Ensink, the CB1, hasn't had a perfect World Bowl, but Dwyer has stepped up enough, as have Dutertre whenever he's put in. Aemino has had more snaps than needed as a nickel back, but the defence is paranoid about letting deep passes get the better of them. While passing offences have bad days against us, dual threat QBs and good running attacks can wear this unit down eventually.

Oh right, the first seed is us.

Kierlaun

Kierlaun was enjoying himself, having emptied his gun he'd raided one of the guard rooms, knocking its single occupant unconscious with a single heavy blow to the head. The knight now held several bunches of keys, a rifle and a shotgun; all the better to deal with that door.

"You fucking moron!" he snapped at the lead prisoner near the door, "What the hell were you thinking? Don't kill your fellow prisoners smashing their heads into the door, there are perfectly good guards to kill. I mean...were perfectly good guards to kill," he let out a cold laugh and began trying the bundle of keycards and keys on the door. If that didn't work, he would began blasting away at it with the shotgun, hoping that the shells he was carrying were good enough to knock a part of the door to the point a good kick from his foot would open it.

Dreadfire-class superdreadnought, gods holy light of freedom, just outside of main nation ministry territorial waters

Without a contredictary message from the Mazhrit, the orders for the crusader fleet commanded by Kasurdien were nothing if not clear. Trundle very, very slowly towards the imaginary line separating main nation ministry's waters from international ones: Velsturman crusaders were generally not regarded for their ability to think for themselves when orders had been given. The fleets great hulking vessils began to move, therefore, and sculked slowly towards the home of the Tyrant's minions, the land which had angered God. If nothing more, it should convince their 'leader' to respond.

And welcome to another edition of the Sports With Bort blog, I'm your always humble host Bort Stevens. We're continuing our special report on Torisakia's World Bowl 37 campaign that we began earlier. Today we've got a special playoff edition, looking at Torisakia's upcoming Round of 16 game against Abanfleft. We'll be taking a look at how both teams got to this point, keys to the game, and why Torisakia will win. We'll also talk some off-the-field news that I'm sure everyone is already aware of but I need to talk about it to meet my word quota.

Who would have predicted this? Torisakia, a team known for their woeful performances in international sports competitions, going 11-1 and making the playoffs of the World Bowl? This has to be the best achievement in our country's history. Well, sporting history at least. This team has surpassed my and many others expectations with such a dominating performance from the first matchday. Despite having the one loss to Cassadaigua, this team has proven themselves to be one of the best in the World Bowl. As a matter of fact, they are one of only two remaining undefeated teams coming out of phase 2. The Ice Birds have also had one of the best offenses in the tournament scoring 440 total points through 12 games and they scored 40 or more points in 5 of those. Torisakia has also had a pretty solid defense, giving up only 222 points for the entire World Bowl group stage. Unfortunately they posted no shutouts. But given how tough all of our opponents were it's easy to see why.

Though all of this looks like probable cause for the Ice Birds to have a top five seed, they actually got the shorter end of the stick and were given the 10th overall seed. It mainly has to do with how the teams were picked and seeded. Since the top three teams from the groups in League A automatically qualify, they got the first nine seeds. Of course which seed was given to which team was a matter of overall records, points differential, points for, all that stuff. So technically Torisakia had the #1 overall seed in League B. Technicalities aside, it's still a good place to start as we couldn't expect them to be the top seed to start out. The World Bowl follows traditional seeding rules and because of that the Ice Birds will play the 7th seed, which happens to be Abanhfleft. This team, henceforth known as the Fleftics, is one of the primer teams out there. They're in the top 10 internationally and finished 4th in the last World Bowl. They've had a bit of a down run this time, going 3-3 in both phases in their group and only winning by an average of 2.5 points. This is very unusual for a top team like this. Maybe it has something to do with some plane crash they had happen some time ago. Either way they aren't an opponent to take lightly just because they've struggled a bit. Torisakia has struggles of their own.

As many of you have already heard, the Ice Birds will be without star wide receiver Cliff Bolden for the remainder of the World Bowl due to an ACL tear he experienced in practice yesterday. Bolden led the team in touchdown receptions with 12 and in reception yards with 1078. He was on top of the Lil'Billy Bedwedder Award watch list, which goes to the TFL's best receiver. However it seems like he may miss a good bit of the TFL season coming up in a few months or he may even miss it entirely, which does not bode well for Tokai and their hopes of returning to the Hyperbowl. Bolden is the first major injury for the Ice Birds all tournament long, and it will be interesting to see how they go about executing their offense without him as a go-to target for Aaron Spady.

Torisakia's playoff game against Abanhfleft will be a great way to determine the future of this team. Should they win big it will put a lot of momentum behind the program and possibly fuel other national sports teams to perform well. However if they lose big it'll just be another reminder of how horribly inconsistent we are at sporting events. A close loss would not be as bad given that it's hard fought and it's obvious the players were doing all they could to pull out the victory. A close win is good too, but it raises some eyebrows at the ability of the Ice Birds to play well in big games. We shouldn't be too concerned about us being inconsistent as it seems Abanhfleft has had problems with consistency the past few competitions too. This World Bowl is a prime example of that as they finished 4th in World Bowl 36 and are the 9th ranked team internationally, but have fallen off this year going 6-6 for the entire tournament. So it's good to see we're not the only ones who have struggled with consistency. We're like a half refrigerated bowl of Jello, nice and firm around the edges but all liquidy and runny in the center. But if Torisakia can take advantage of Abahnfleft's shaky defense and conservative play style then they should have no issues getting the win. Best of all is that this game (and every other playoff game) is being played in the host nation of Banija on neutral ground, so we don't have to worry about home field advantage unless we play Banija themselves.

Should Torisakia win against Abanhfleft, they would play the winner of the Pridnestrovia-Newmanistan game in the quarterfinals. Pridnestrovia is the second overall seed, defending World Bowl champions and, as such, the number one team internationally. Newmanistan, on the other hand, is the 15th overall seed and only qualified for the knockout stages by way of a play-in game where they defeated South Covello. Personally I hope we get Pridnestrovia if we make it to the quarterfinals. We need a really good challenge and what better challenge is there than the defending World Bowl champions?

Welp, that's all I have for today. I'll be back with another edition of Sports with Bort soon to discuss the Torisakia-Abanhfleft matchup as well as take a look at other happenings around the playoffs and either preview the quarterfinals and Torisakia's next matchup if they win or do a retrospective of Torisakia's World Bowl 37 run if they lose.. Take care and the TBI has cleared me of any wrongdoing because they agree that the guy who sent me that email was an absolute cunt.

Gossip Magazine Office, New City, Orlandiana, Free Republics

Etoile Quenneville walked into her editor's office. Seated in the office was Jasper Chuter, the former editor of Sporting World. After he was forced out of Sporting World, he went through a long period of unemployment as no reputable publication would hire him. Eventually, he received a phone call from a Gossip Magazine recruiter and within 24 hours, he was the editor of a tabloid that was famous for publishing stories of dubious validity.

Jasper Chuter - Etoile, what can I do for you today?

Etoile Quenneville - Mr. Chuter, or should I say Uncle Jasper, I'm a little bit worried about my safety right now.

Jasper Chuter - Don't worry about it. You're a pretty girl. You should be able to find a man to white knight for you!

Etoile Quenneville - I'm always worried those thirsty boys will finally figure me out!

Jasper Chuter - Don't be silly. The kind of guys you use are desperate and aren't about to Googol the girl who's offering to finally take them out on a date. You're just being paranoid. Things will be fine.

Etoile Quenneville - I've heard we're getting sued for libel and for infringing WankTube's copyrights.

Jasper Chuter - The libel lawsuit is nothing to worry about. To win a libel case, the Supreme Court says you have to prove that actual harm was caused to your reputation in the mind of a reasonable person. Do you seriously think any reasonable person believes a word they read in Gossip Magazine?

Etoile Quenneville - Of course not! But we're being sued by Sir Koby Theodore. He's connected and could easily find a favorable judge in a jurisdiction where the judgment must be paid as a deposit before we could appeal.

Jasper Chuter - Like that could ever happen!

Etoile Quenneville - Besides, WankTube is pissed that we used their video to make a high profile fake porn video and then didn't even host the video on their service.

Jasper Chuter - Damn it Etoile. You should know better than pissing off a porn site by denying them their traffic!

Etoile Quenneville - You may want to talk to them about a settlement. They may be willing to not sue us if we replace the embedded video in our article with a link to a version of the same video on WankTube.

Jasper Chuter - By the way, don't worry about the Ministry. I think its time I take you out to the shootin' range and teach you how to use a gun.

Sister Polus's Thoughts

Hello, I am Sister Maria Polus. I am the Housemistress of Tomlinson House at the Barjavel Academy at Republica, the Instructor in Religious Studies, Deportment and Latin at the Academy and the Headmistress of the Barjavel Junior Academy, Republica Branch. I am joining you today on VirtueTube and SanctusTube to discuss current events in the Free Republics and around the multiverse. Unfortunately, I am joining you under less than ideal circumstances. As you may or may not have seen, Scarlett Nicholls recently called a press conference on national televison with Lucas Gottlieb, who is the chairman of the board for the Barjavel Academy corporation. I watched in shock as he undermined me and spoke about his desire to terminate my employment contract. Let me be very clear: If my employment contract is terminated, I will sue Barjavel Academy for every cent it is worth! I have already filed a lawsuit against Scarlett Nicholls in Federation Court for tampering with a contract. On the advice of my attorney, who I am told is the best contract law attorney in the Free Republics, I will not be commenting upon outstanding litigation except to say that we expect to defeat Scarlett Nicholls in court and to win significant damages.

I wish to turn to other news now. First, I'll discuss some great news. Carter Redwin has returned to the race for President of South Covello. While Carter is not, to the best of my knowledge, a member of the True Church, he is nonetheless a pretty good ally for us in a nation where we have few allies. Remarkably, God has delivered him a lead in the polls. Mr. Redwin now leads the degenerate little boy who is the incumbent President of South Covello by a 56 to 44 margin. This is a reminder that we should never lose faith in God's Plan. One day, sooner or later, the True Church will convert the entire world and Iesus Christus will return to rule the multiverse for a thousand years. It is our duty as Christians to always seek to advance God's Kingdom by saving as many souls as possible for our Lord.

On a related note, many people have asked me why I use such strong language to condemn wicked individuals if my goal is to convert the entire multiverse to the Truth. I want to make it clear that I reserve harsh language for only the most egregious unrepentant sinners who are actively and consciously doing the work of Satanas and I pray every night that even a wicked harlot like Scarlett Nicholls will one day open her heart to the Truth. However, it is important that we Christians stand up to evil and to those who willfully and knowingly aid and abet evil. I've always believed in taking a different approach with those who sin because they have never been exposed to the Good News. It is especially important that we expose involuntary sinners to God's Word so that they may have the choice to repent and start obeying the Will of our Creator. While it is true that those who make a conscious choice to reject God will be punished more severely in Infernus, they will actually deserve every bit of it because continuing to sin after being given the choice to repent is far worse than sinning out of ignorance!

Speaking of sinners, the World Bowl continues and I understand that the Republicans will be playing Cosumar tonight. The Republican team is coached by a woman and quarterbacked by a woman. I find it disturbing that Nicholls Enterprises is sponsoring this and putting a number of women in danger. Even worse, these women are deprived of the opportunity to find husbands, settle down and have a family or, ideally, to devote themselves to God by joining a convent and taking a vow of total lifelong celibacy. I refer you to chapter 7 of the Epistula I ad Corinthios. St. Paulus made clear that it is ideal to never have sex but that the institution of holy matrimony was created for those who are too weak to control their animalistic urges. In marriage, a woman gives herself to a man as his property and they have a mutual obligation to have sex with one another except when they choose to abstain by mutual agreement. However, the moral ideal is for all to abstain from sex altogether. The worldly institutions that exist to aid those who make the choice to remain celibate are the monastery and the convent.

Many people have also asked why it is fine for me to have a career as an educator but it is not fine for a woman who has not taken the vows and joined a convent to have a career. This question misunderstands the purpose of monastic life. Our purpose as monks and nuns is to work for the Glory of our God. The job of a woman who chooses marriage is to have sex with her husband, bear his children and be their mother. To have a second job outside of that is to neglect one's more important job as wife and mother and it is truly a disgrace that secular societies oppress women by depriving them of their God-given right to take care of their home, their husband and their kids. Truly one of the worst sins of secular societies like the one we have here in the Free Republics is the horrible way in which they treat their women. I am Sister Maria Polus and I thank you for watching.

Banijans win in Vangaziland to clinch berth in Round of 16 against the Main Nation Ministry

Image
Tijan Kujabi silences the Vangaziland crowd after scoring the game's winning touchdown in the fourth quarter

VANGAZILAND- The Serpent Eagles certainly didn't make it easy on themselves. All the pressure and expectation of being the host nation, the host organizing committee, and it almost became too much of a burden for these men to bear, again- after the disastrous campaign of World Bowl XXXIV, where they didn't even make the Round of 16, the Banijans were a couple of minutes away, from not making the knockout stages again in a tournament that they were hosting. The pain for that was, and would be, unbelievable. So many heads would roll. We'd have to question everything we know about the Banijans and this sport. The most opportune moments for glory in gridiron, squandered again? The legacy of Alastair Jobs, whose incredible record as a head coach at Loyola-Istria, summed up in his dominance of the NSCF postseason(8-0 all-time in NSCF postseason games), would be irredemably altered. World Bowl XXXV's failure to make the knockouts was widely seen as him doing the first part of cleaning up the mess that his predecessor's left behind. But the bronze medal in Ko-oren, probably ahead of schedule, made it seem as if he could repeat the magic that he had with Loyola-Istria. And when Banija won World Bowl hosting rights, those expectations kicked into over drive. Could Banija do the impossible?

And then, amidst all the hype and the fan hope, reality came crashing back down to Earth. Banija was in League A due to its status of being a host nation, but were drawn into a group with three Top 7 nations- Drawkland(2), Velstrania(6), and the Main Nation Ministry(7). And that's when it was clear- this team, at least at the beginning of the tournament, in Phase 1, is not what we thought it would be. They were clearly outclassed in this group, going 1-5, their only victory a home win at the Stadium of the Restoration against our rivals, 2nd ranked Drawkland. But the lowlight of Phase 1 were the games against Velstrania. Losing by a combined 80 points to Velstrania (39 points at home, 41 on the road) served as a terrible indictment on the state of the program. They weren't good enough, they were not elite, they were far from that. They couldn't compete with the best of the best, they didn't belong with the best of the best- this was, at best, a second tier squad.

And down to League B they went, where they would have went based on rank alone. And in League B, they fought, they battled, and had to earn their way through. On Matchday 1, people thought things might have been fixed- a team record 60 point victory, by a score of 76-16 over the Equestrian States, seemed to have many thinking that things were solved. But once again, very quickly, reality hit them like a brick. They came home from their trip to Ranoria City empty handed, and then they were 1-1. While then defending their home turf against Terre Septentrionale, they then fell in a massive upset on Matchday 4, when they lost to the Equestrian States. The World Bowl campaign wasn't quite on life support, but they were sure in some serious pain. A surprise upset loss, and now, many Banijan fans were forced to confront a possibility that none of them had ever considered- the Banijans, one tournament removed from a bronze medal, could get knocked out in league play?

Fortunately, from then on, something clicked for the Banijans. First, at the Stadium of the Restoration, a boisterous home crowd propelled Banija to a one point win over their rivals, Ranoria, when Ranorian kicker Barry Chlorid missed a 51 yarder on the last play of the game. And then, in their winner-take-all match against Terre Septentrionale on Matchday 6 of Phase 2, the Banijans went and finally showed that they could get it done on the road, winning their first away game of the entire tournament in their sixth attempt to do so. Before their win in Ville Jacques-Cartier, they had lost in the following places in the multiverse- Drawkland, the Main Nation Ministry, Velstrania, Ranoria, and the Equestrian States, before finally winning in the francophone city. That is what put Banija into the Play-In games- Game #13 for the 8 teams trying to capture the last four spots in the knockout stages. The other 12 teams, of course(and the League C Play-In game participants) had already been able to make plans for Banija. But for these teams, they would get an extra game of wear and tear, having to win a winner-take-all game to get to the Round of 16.

The League C Play-In Game, of course, was played in Jinja City. Amurbia upended Geektopia by a single point to face the tournament's #1 seed, Ko-oren. Newmanistan was able to win on a visit to South Covello by 10 points. Cosumar took care of their home field advantage, and had a big victory over the sport's traditional power, the Allamunnic States, to earn their own spot in the knockout stages. And then, of course, came Banija's match. No matter that they were fighting for a spot in the knockout stages that would be played in Banija. The Serpent Eagles would have to get on a plane and travel to Vangaziland, and win in Vangaziland for the right. While Vangaziland were clearly outmatched in League A, going 0-6, they did earn promotion to the group. And, of course, they have their own proud tradition in this sport. The Banijans came, and there was an electric environment, with the fans hoping that the home side could put their League A struggles behind them, and unceremoniously dump out the tournament's host nation on their own soil. Like what they did to us at the International Basketball Championships. The irony, right?

This game was a back and forth game, a battle between two teams leaving everything on the field. Nothing short of the back and forth thriller that one expects for these Play-In games. Most Banijans were at home, listening on the radio, as the teams battled back and forth. Radio and television announcers alike exclaimed and sighed, as the Banijans scored, and the Vannish scored in response. The game was culminating towards a tense finish, and boy, that's exactly what we got. Vangaziland held a slim, 29-28 lead, with just 4:30 left. The crowd energetic, Isaka Jawara engineered a 7 play, 3 minute drive that went 67 yards. The end result was a 7 yard touchdown pass to TIjan Kujabi, who caught a screen, made a man miss, and then raced for the pylon. He scored with just 1:30 left, and silenced what had been quite a loud crowd. Would the Serpent Eagles play a knockout stage game in Banija?

This question was not yet answered. Up 34-29, they went for 2 to make it a 7 point game. Unfortunately, the pass on the 2 point conversion fell incomplete, and the defense was defending a 5 point lead. However, it would be an interception by the captain, the team's #1 cornerback Yonas Azikiwe, with just a minute left, that would seal the deal. That's when the sighs of relief could be had, that's when the celebrations could begin. And just two kneel downs later, it was official- the Serpent Eagles were in the ROund of 16. And after factoring in the rest of the results, Banija's opponent would be none other than the Main Nation Ministry.

These two squads are very familiar with each other. In Ko-oren for World Bowl XXXVI, Banija upset the Main Nation Ministry en route to its fourth ever semifinal appearance in this tournament. In this tournament, they played each other in League A. The Main Nation Ministry swept the series in Phase 1, winning the home leg by a single score, and the away leg by a score of 38-22. They improved in Phase 2, even winning their League A group in Phase 2 over the Free Republics, and earning the #3 overall seed. It's hard to say who will win at the Watering Hole. The Main Nation Ministry has beaten the Banijans twice already, but as they say, it's hard to beat the same team three times in a row in this sport, eh?

It'll be a tossup. The crowd is behind the Banijans, and with three wins in a row, all with their backs against the wall, this team has a sense of urgency and confidence that should serve them well. And yet, the Main Nation Ministry, arguably, is simply more talented. We'll see who comes on top and earns a trip to the World Bowl quarterfinals.
