June 2019 was hottest on record for the globe

Postby The Derpy Democratic Republic Of Herp » Sun Jul 21, 2019 6:08 am

the very hot sause

Mother Earth worked up a major sweat last month. Scorching temperatures made June 2019 the hottest June on record for the globe. And for the second month in a row, warmth brought Antarctic sea-ice coverage to a new low for June.

Here’s a closer look into NOAA’s latest monthly global climate report:

Climate by the numbers
June 2019
The average global temperature in June was 1.71 degrees F above the 20th-century average of 59.9 degrees, making it the hottest June in the 140-year record, according scientists to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information.

Nine of the 10 hottest Junes have occurred since 2010. Last month also was the 43rd consecutive June and 414th consecutive month with above-average global temperatures.

Year to date I January through June
The period from January through June produced a global temperature 1.71 degrees F above the 20th-century average of 56.3 degrees, tying with 2017, as the second-hottest year to date on record.

It was the hottest first half of the year for: South America, parts of the southern portion of Africa, Madagascar, New Zealand, Alaska, western Canada, Mexico, eastern Asia, the Atlantic and Indian oceans, and the Bering Sea.

More notable stats and facts
Sea ice keeps melting: Average Antarctic sea-ice coverage was 8.5% below the 1981-2010 average – the smallest on record for June. Average Arctic sea ice coverage was 10.5% below average – the second-smallest on record for June.

A slightly cooler year, so far, for some: The contiguous U.S. and southern Canada had year-to-date temperatures at least 1.8 degrees F cooler than average.

More proof on top of the insurmountable pile of proof that Global Warming is fucking us up big time.

All of mankind needs to drastically change our ways now.

We need more fission plants and dams. We need fusion.

We need electric cars.

But what say you NSG?

I say it’s time for action.

It always was, but everyone seems to like fighting with their big guns instead.

My prediction is that this time next month we'll be hearing that July 2019 was the hottest July on record for the globe, because compared to last month this month has been utterly miserable.

My gripe is that there's sufficient data showing that multiple years in the last twenty years have been some of the hottest on record, yet there's still so much hesitance. It's clearly a problem, but a lot of politicians don't want to take steps towards alleviating the issue.

It only seems a couple of years since NSG was full of climate change deniers.

Yup.

I do think a lot needs to be done to reduce pollution and combat global warming/climate change, and that we humans are seriously screwing over the planet, and the longer we tolerate almost complete dependence on fossil fuels in the United States and other countries the more screwed we'll be, but at the same time, it's hard for me to trust articles like this when every year is "the hottest on record", especially when there is proof of so-called climate scientists altering the temperature data to suit their own political agendas.

And while weather in one little corner of the globe is by no means representative of global climate, in Wisconsin where I live, June 2019 was miserably cold and cloudy.

Short of geoengineering and advanced technological solutions the Climate Change cannot be stopped by CO2 reduction only delayed at best.

Last year was the turning point. We're heading into some hot times.

I saw that article too, but I never saw an answer to this question:

How do we know this? What data are we working off of that tells us this? Why should I trust this as opposed to any other think-tank climate alarmist article?

Climate refugees, rising sea levels, global economic collapse, famine and war. I don’t see anyone benefiting from that.

Theres no reason for you to trust it. Its your choice.

When I first came across it last year, I've had the instinctive feeling they may have a point. And the weather that followed and the severe droughts, the hilariously warm winter that followed and the continuation of this year are enough for me to know. I have already taking first steps to prepare for the increasingly hot summers and developing strategies therefore.

So should (and hopefully do) Governments and individuals alike. The survivial of civilization is paramount and we need to start confronting ourself with the unconfortable but increasingly likely possibility that the environmental, climatic conditons on our Planet might radically change within the next years and adapt to this.

"Friday for Futures" and similar forms of hot-air activism are self-deluding. I am wondering how long it will take before talk on geoengineering is getting started.

And what would be the extent of such issues in an unaffected region? Seems like rising food prices can only help us.

Meanwhile, up north it's been 42 degrees (or 108 F in American units), whilst down south it's been 40 degrees - problematic.
