 Sandcutter Daily Latest July 2019, 6th  In conjunction with the Defense Technologies Management Agency, Stormfolks River - class Guided Missile Cruiser HNS Royalwicks Strait (85), along with Royalbrook-class Destroyer HNS Royalbrook (D 9), successfully executed a live-fire missile exercise including using GHI-1125 Tsunami Mk I VL ELR SAM off the Icksen Strait July 4, 2019. This exercise known as Exercises Formidable Quicksand demonstrated the effective employment of the ships Sea-based Theater Air and Missile Protection System (STAMPS) while giving each ship's crew the opportunity to track and guide weapons and destroy simulated enemy targets in a live scenario. The exercise was intended to enhance crew proficiency on the combat system. During the event, all ships shared a common tactical picture and each was given the opportunity to perform a standard missile intercept evolution. The STAMPS weapon system is a centralized, automated, command-and-control weapons system, designed for detection and engagement. The heart of the system is the GWT-81F radar and B&W-79 passive Electronic Scanned Array, which is an advanced automatic detect and track radar, able to perform a search, track and missile guidance functions simultaneously on more than 100 targets. Utilizing the STAMPS combat weapons system, Combat Systems watchstanders from both ships successfully detected, identified and tracked the remote-controlled targets, engaging in respective order. This live-fire exercise is one of many pre-deployment scenarios Sailors and ships will participate in prior to being certified for deployments.
