What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Yeah but that would require actual effort. So instead were going to waste money on this stupid solution that will do nothing but show a lack of empathy to people worse off than us and annoy everyone. Because logic is overrated.

It would be better and makes just as much sense to tell the homeless why they shouldn't be there.

Not that i support that. Just that the bar is set so low by this.

Doesn't work. The cops are constantly, individually removing them from areas.

The music is only being played at night with the goal of stopping people from sleeping and shitting outside a banquet hall that receives hundreds and thousands of dollars in business.

Pacomia wrote:I've been here for seven. I see homeless people around my neighbourhood and adjacent neighbourhoods, and they don't really cause those problems. Sure, there's the occasional theft and petty crime, and occasionally they're sleeping in your driveway, but that's just part of life. Maybe I'm just desensitised to it, but I don't see it as a large problem. I also don't live in a prestigious rich area. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you sound like you might be somebody from a rich area, who has now moved to a different place with more homelessness, and aren't used to it.

I'll admit the neighbourhood I live in in Singapore might not have the most affordable housing prices, but I don't think anyone's socioeconomic status has any bearing on their ability to form a sound opinion on a real public problem and concern. I'm clearly not the only one. Oxford City Council passed a series of anti-vagrancy and anti-homeless legislation because voters here are increasingly-irritated about the problem. So at the very least its not just me who is getting annoyed.

You are far from alone in detesting the sight of the victims of capitalism.

Purgatio wrote:

People want to avoid getting harassed, pestered, exposed to noxious smells and poor hygiene, tripping over trash and litter left on the pavement, fearing theft or assault from vagrants, loitering and trespassing on private property. This has nothing to do with hiding poverty and everything to do with cleaning up the streets of a real public nuisance and menace.

Nothing you've said has anything to do with homelessness. People with homes harass and pester others, have poor personal hygiene, they litter, they steal and assault, they loiter, they trespass. But it's only the homeless you dehumanise.

So to take a look at primary complaints:

1. "Help the homeless instead" They are. People are being directed to shelters, offered mental health services, bus tickets, job training, and subsidized housing. This is not their end all be all solution to the homeless problem- it's a stopgap method to avoid cleaning human shit out of the place people have weddings- the end goal being more money for the city to do things which include all those nice services.

2. "This is just going to drive people away" No it won't. They're doing it at night, the patio they're concerned about its a pretty solid distance from the nearest building, and there's nothing in the area except bars, restaurants, and the ocean. The only people inconvenienced are those loitering in one specific area they don't want people loitering.

Weapons like this should be banned because they're not easy to stop. China may already be using sonic attacks and speakers cover the DMZ. It is a weapon, just not a lethal one. Imagine being in pain constantly from something you can't see or otherwise detect except by the instrument it damages.

Getting revenge on foreign ambassadors of hostile countries would be satisfying, although not a good idea in my opinion.
