West Palm Beach plays "Baby Shark" on repeat

Postby Pacomia » Thu Jul 18, 2019 10:44 am

The Floridian city of West Palm Beach is now playing "Baby Shark" and "Raining Tacos" on repeat to drive out homeless at the waterfront.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49026273

This is actually hilarious, in my opinion, especially after the thread yesterday about the U.S. government playing "Baby Shark" at Guantanamo Bay for torturing prisoners, which was fake, but this is actually real. It's crazy.

So, what do y'all think about this? Is this a valid and reasonable way to get the homeless out? What else could be done with "Baby Shark"?

Are they sure it'll only drive away homeless people?

A better solution would be fighting the cause of homelessness.

Oy, would having to listen to "Baby Shark" or "Raining Tacos" on repeat be worse?

Which does nothing for the waterfront right now. Useless useful suggestion.

So instead of investing in homeless shelters or donating city funds to Habitat for Humanity they play some dumb meme song to drive away homeless people?

I’m sure that playing Baby Shark won’t drive away customers and tourists.

Yes, how dare they use a cheap solution now instead of spending a ton of money to maybe clear up the waterfront in like ten years.

Now that's a reasonable argument for why this is dumb.

I got pissed at this news, so I'd like to post this link here.

Donate to Habitat for Humanity Florida please if you guys can.

That cheap solution only moves the homeless away from the beach.

If you want to fix the problem you need to bust out the money.

Because it isn't a cheap solution to a problem, it's a waste of money meant to help everyone ignore a bigger problem.

I live in a big corporate town that has the biggest companies, and our city council seems to just suck up to the corporations at the expense of the residents. Also, the city is big enough that they sort of just stopped caring about the outskirts of the city.

Florida continues to disappoint, as usual. What on Earth is wrong with these *people?

* note: I’m referring to the people running Florida and dominating its politics

Imagine seeing people suffering from the destitute conditions of homelessness and thinking, "I know the perfect solution! Let's torture them with shitty music until they leave!" instead of establishing homes for the homeless or something.

Thanks, Florida.

It gets them to stop loitering around storefronts and harassing people in that area. That, I believe, was the point.

The point is to keep people from seeing homeless people. Every other point is auxiliary to that point.

There won't be anyone to harass if they play that god-awful song. It'll drive out EVERYONE, causing a major hit to their economy.
