A Beer Thread?

Postby Scomagia » Tue Jul 16, 2019 9:37 pm

Yes, a beer thread. Beer is the third most consumed beverage on Earth. Chances are you've drank beer recently or will in the near future (minors excluded). Beer has such enduring popularity that it can be found virtually everywhere in human culture, from the prayers to the Goddess Ninkasi (essentially a beer recipe) to the drinking songs of today. It is drunk daily by countless millions and brewed both industrially and as a hobby for beer lovers the world over.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homebrewing
But, as anyone who has muddled through the morning after an especially indulgent night knows, beer carries consequences. From short term issues like hangovers to the longer term consequences of binge drinking like cirrhosis and alcoholism, beer certainly has a dark edge. Indeed, many choose to abstain from alcohol altogether in order to avoid the bad decisions associated with too much drinking or the health effects. It may surprise you to learn, then, that beer may not be all bad:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24582196
Habitual light to moderate alcohol intake (up to 1 drink per day for women and 1 or 2 drinks per day for men) is associated with decreased risks for total mortality, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, and stroke.

That's right! Kicking back a brew or two with dinner might be a healthy habit!

So, what are your feelings on beer? Do you regularly imbibe or are you a teetotaler? Do you enjoy the refreshing bitterness of a bold brew or does the thought of tipping back an ale ail you? Do you drink moderately or do you go all out? What is your favorite beer?

Additionally, if you are a fond friend of the foamy freshness, are you at all concerned about this potential development?

My opinions: I like beer quite a bit, though more for flavor than inebriation. I'd consider myself a moderate, frequent drinker of beer as I have a beer or two fairly often throughout the week. I am a bit worried about the future of barley and what it means for my sumptious suds, although it's hardly the biggest concern from climate change. I like a lot of beers but my favorites would have to be: Guinness Extra Stout or most anything from Deschutes Brewery.

What say you?

Anybody who says that I support non-Islamic slavery, persecution of non-Muslims, rape, domestic violence, terrorism, pedophilia, killing homosexuals, hating Jews, etc is lying.

Beer is great. More into whisky or rum personally but beer is also great.

And it's why Russia chose Christianity over Islam.

Seems Islamists are the new Nazis of NS Summer..

I gave up beer when I noticed its noticeable effects on my girth. However prior to that I tended to enjoy IPAs, beyond that if you don't drink beer for a good length of time and then drink any of the more brand name beers you'll notice how very much like piss it tastes.

I like IPAs too. My friends all hate it and call it juniper beer.

I don't mind the brand name beers, though it does taste a lot like drinking foamy water.

If I can get it Lion Lager, a Sri Lankan one that I personally love. When I can't get a hold of that, Yuengling.

Used to be every Summer school's out and a host of Nazis invaded NSG, now I notice the general proliferation of posters who can't contribute to a thread without spouting off on Islamic law.. frankly it's utterly irrelevant conversation.

Having one's opinion entirely defined by a religion isn't an opinion at all. Why comment in a thread about beer to tell us something everyone and their mother knows.

Anyway, back to beer..

Because it's a beer thread. What, I can't talk about beer in a beer thread unless it's only positive?

So, new today, we have a beer thread and a bear thread. Now all we need is a thread on nudity1 and we can have bare bears with beer. :p

1. Though possibly not within the rules.[/notamod]

As to the OP, I can't drink beer, because I have to follow a gluten-free diet and I've never found a gluten-free one that I like. Alcohol-wise, my favourites are rum, medium-dry white wine and brandy.

Yep. It truly does seem like the evolution of NS summer is irrelevant Islam posts.

Back to beer, how much did you drink to notice effects to your weight? I drink fairly often an I don't notice a thing, though I am in my mid 20s.

I do keep hearing about Yuenling, if I can find it here I'd try it out.

I was listening to a series of podcasts all about the history of beer in the US, and the general battles between Budweiser and Miller, and it reminded me of a beer called Schlitz, which I think is dead now.

that's unfair, macrobrewed lagers need to have taste in the first place before they can be described as being like piss.

It's just boring when I know what you're going to say before you say it because you're an ideologue.

Anyway, beer. You don't drink it. Got anything else to add?
