Coliseum of the Crucifixion, Los Martires, Charter Society of Malifornia
Game two – Hapilopper vs. Orestea
As members of the Hapilopper National Football Team came back to the locker room following their final practice session the day of their match against the team from Orestea, they found a three-word phrase scrawled on the chalkboard. The phrase, “SHOCK AND AWE,” filled the board. Standing next to it was Thom Perkins, the manager of the club. He had an intense look on his face. He had seen what the Hapiloppians had done in practice, and similarly, his staff had seen what the Oresteans had done. If there was any opportunity to do something huge, it was now.

“Shock and awe, huh?” asked midfielder Pancakes Taggart. “What does that mean?”

“It means we’re capable of putting up some huge numbers today,” Thom replied. “This is a team that can put up those numbers, and we can do it really early on in the match, too. Let’s not just focus on possession or shots on goal, let’s actually score some goals in numbers!”

Thom looked over at Ernie Stevenson and John Cornett, the team’s top two forwards. Both of them had huge smiles on their faces. This was the kind of match they were looking for. This was the kind of challenge they were wanting. Come out of the starting gate on fire and leave the other team in the dust, their orders were. Both players looked around at their teammates, who were smiling just as heavily. They knew today would not be a normal football match. They knew this one would be a special one.
As the players, led by Cooter Harris and Thom Perkins, walked through the tunnel, they were met by Venerable Television’s Robert Skippers, wanting an interview from someone.

“We’re gonna put on a show today,” Thom said with a smile.

“I’m getting a hat trick today,” Ernie said. “I guaran-damn-tee it.”

It was the second match in a row that Ernie had guaranteed something bold before a match on live TV, and like the previous match, he followed through on that guarantee. More to the point, he did it in a matter of three minutes, the 2nd, the 3rd and the 4th minutes. In less than 90 minutes of play, Ernie Stevenson had scored five goals in two matches against two other teams. After scoring the hat trick, he ran over to John Cornett and shouted “TOP THAT.”

“Oh, I will, trust me!” Cornett shouted back. A friendly rivalry was starting to develop between the two players, and it was something the team was making note of.

In the 17th minute, a goal from Steve Erickson made the score 4-0. Seeing that Ernie had been tied up with an Orestean defender, Steve just raced through traffic and shot the ball from the left, making the Orestean goalkeeper look foolish as the midfielder ran past him.

Murray Hunnisett made it 5-0 in the 26th as, with ease, it appeared, he ran past every single Orestean defender in the process of sending the ball into the back of the net from right down the middle, even after faking the goaltender into believing he would make a move left.

When the teams went to the locker room for a brief halftime respite, Thom had a huge smile on his face. Ernie had scored a hat trick, as promised, in the first five minutes of the match. Two of his midfielders had found the back of the net. This was a damned strong team, he knew it, and the team knew it. He looked over at Steve and Ernie and decided they had earned their rest.

“You guys want to sit for the second half?” Thom asked. “I’m putting Sweet Stan and Cornett in.”

“Sure, why not?” Ernie said. “I’d like to see John try to top what I was able to do. I bet it’ll be awesome.”

Sure enough, taking the pitch for the second half was the entire Midnight Express trio of John Cornett, Beautiful Bobby East and Sweet Stan Long on the offensive side of the pitch. That was a smart move. The three had worked together for several years, and they knew what moves to make and how to elude defenders in their own special way. The rest of the team was advised that, if you don’t mind, once Beautiful Bobby or Sweet Stan gets the ball, let them do their own thing and stay out of the way, and no, you won’t regret it.

Nobody regretted it. Mere seconds after the half got going, Cornett, with assists from his midfielders, put the ball in the back of the net from 20 yards. Two minutes later, in the 47th, another goal from Cornett, with an assist from East. In the 51st, Cornett put the ball in the back of the net again with an assist from Long. It was now 8-0 in favor of the Hapiloppians.

In the 65th minute, Cooter Harris, having done virtually nothing the whole match, was subbed off in favor of Colt Delaney, who was given the order to just “be cool, and don’t give up too much, but if you give up a goal or two, not the end of the world.”

Sure enough, by the time the match ended, two Orestean goals had found the back of the net, one in the 72nd and one in the third minute of injury stoppage time. These goals were largely considered consolation goals, and nobody really judged Delaney for allowing them.

After all, Hapilopper now led the group with six points, to Terre Septentrionale’s and Amuaplye’s four, and with a +8 goal differential. They would need that goal differential going into those matches against those very tough sides.

The first of those two tough matches would be coming next. Hapilopper couldn’t just act as if they would blow out the Northern Land National Soccer Team, because they might have been just as good as the Hapiloppians. Afterwards, Thom told reporters that the mindset would have to be wildly different.

“Yeah, we’ve had this date marked on our calendars since we got here,” Thom said. “Terre Septentrionale will be one of our two biggest tests in this entire group phase. They’ve got some fantastic players, and we can’t just treat them the way we treated the Coalison and Orestea.”

Thom explained the team has been watching footage of Terre Septentrionale’s matches against Lashnakia and Amuaplye to study for the upcoming match.
“In that first match, one of their players got a hat trick. I’m not going to try to pronounce that player’s name, I think it was Fridericka or Fryderyka or something, but we’re keeping an eye on her. She looks like a real threat in multiple forms. If we want to be victorious, we have to stop her attacking threat in one form or another.”

Thom was also asked about the team’s rather arrogant, yet bold, guarantees that have come before both of their matches.

“None before this one,” he said grimly. “We’re not going to guarantee anything before this match, except that you’re going to see a hell of a great football match and it’ll probably be one of the must-watch matches of this entire tournament. We’re a pretty good team, but so is Terre Septentrionale, and we’re going to have to be at our best if we’re going to beat them. If we play anything less than our absolute best, we’ll get beat. Period.”

That mindset was obvious going into training the next morning. There was no lightheartedness. There was no joking around. Every single member of the HNFT carried a deadly serious demeanor going into training against what would be their biggest challenge to date. They just couldn’t take Terre Septentrionale lightly like they had taken the other teams. This was a tough team, and they had to prepare for a tough match.

Terre Septentrionale draws with Amuaplye

Los Martires, Malifornia, Free Republics - After scoring 6 goals against a weak nation, Terre Septentrionale drew against Amuaplye, one of the best nations in our group. Once again, the Los Martires Memorial Coliseum was sold out for the entire day. It was a hard fought game between the Nordiques and Amuaplye, with the first half ending by the score of 0-0, but don't think it was boring because it wasn't. Terre Septentrionale had many good chances to score, especially at the 25th minutes when Sarah Surprenant made a cross to Zbigniew Zajaczkowski who shoots but Owen Estrada made a terrific save.

Amuaplye took the lead at the 52nd minute when Matthew Fisher was dribbling with the ball and passed to Andres Mitchell who passed to Zachary Williamson. Williamson, who wears the #69, shoots and the ball is in. Amuaplye take a 1-0 lead. Then at the 83rd minute, Élisabeth Normandin passed to Amelia Zalwowska who was dribbling with the ball when she was tackled by Blake Warner just outside the penalty area. Sarah Surprenant will take the free kick but instead of shooting she made a very short pass to Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa who shoots and scores and the game is tied at 1-1! Both teams had a chance to take the lead before the end of the game but goalkeepers Owen Estrada and Zofia Kwietniewska were making the saves and the game ended with a 1-1 draw.

6 are dead, 15 wounded after week long bombing spree in Melbourne. Suspect shot and killed outside of police station.

Image
Police investigate scene of the 3rd attack at the Supreme Court of Victoria. 1 person was severely wounded.

A man was shot and killed after instigating a week long bombing spree across Melbourne. His main MO was to rig doorways with spring-loaded pipe bombs, and wait for someone to enter. Due to the relative lack of clues, and vague witness accounts, he was only caught after he attempted to bomb a police station, and was shot and killed by a police officer.

He targeted 3 post offices (one of them twice), 4 courts (one of them twice as well), 2 churches (both of them twice), City Hall (4 times), 2 restaurants, and 2 schools.

On the first day, he detonated 6 bombs, 1 at a post office at 15 Southern Cross Lane, which was defused, 3 at three separate courts, the first 2 at 305 and 310 Williams Street, wounding 1 person each, and the 3rd at 53-55 Robinson Street, killing one person, a church at 326 Lonsdale Street, wounding 1, and City Hall, killing 1, with a total of 2 dead, 3 wounded.

On the second day, he detonated 4 more, the same site of one of the courthouses at 305 Williams Street, wounding 4, a post office at 8/271 Collins Street, wounding 1, a school at 77 Waimarie Drive, which was defused, and a church at 1248 High Street Road, killing 1, with a total of 1 dead, 5 wounded.

On the third day, he detonated 2 more, both at City Hall. One was rigged to explode upon entering the doorway, wounding 1. A 2nd bomb was a time bomb rigged to detonate once policemen and journalists were on the scene. This one killed 1 person, and wounded 2 others, with a total of 1 dead, 3 wounded.

On the fourth day, he detonated another 2, one at the same church as day 1, wounding 1, and another at a bar at 43 Little Bourke Street, also wounding 1, with a total of 0 dead, 2 wounded.

On the fifth day, he detonated another 3, one at the same church attacked on Day 2, killing 1, another at a court at 233 Williams Street, which detonated but didn't wound anyone, and a post office at 440 Collins Street, which was defused, giving a total of 1 dead, 0 wounded.

On the sixth day, he detonated a bomb at the post office attacked on day 1, which was faulty, and City Hall, wounding 1 person.

On the seventh day, he detonated only 1 bomb, this time at an Italian restaurant at 209 Lygon Street. 1 person was wounded. He then attempted to bomb a police station at 226 Flinders Lane, but was in the middle of planting the bomb when he was caught. He tried to light a secondary fuse, then throw it at a window, but was shot and killed by a police officer before he could. His identity has not been released.

Prime Minister Chuikov has yet to comment on the tragedy, though Leader of the Opposition Mary Beck had something to say about it, quote, "It it saddening that such a tragedy occurred in Melbourne. At least we caught the man before he could start more chaos. The incompetence of the AIA in preventing further attacks has only mildly vanished, however."
I'm a dude.

Los Martires Memorial Coliseum, Los Martires, Charter Society of Malifornia
Match three – Hapilopper vs. Terre Septentrionale
The feeling of lightheartedness and joviality from the first two games were gone. Instead, in its stead, a feeling of pure seriousness. Hapilopper wasn’t facing marginal competition on this day. Rather, they were facing Terre Septentrionale, one of the true threats of the Los Martires Group. If there was a clear winner in this particular match, how they fared against Amuaplye, the other really strong team in this group, would decide how the group went. If Terre Septentrionale emerged victorious, that would likely propel them to group stage victory. But if Hapilopper could emerge victorious, all they’d need would be a win over Amuaplye in a few days to take the group stage, and mark themselves a threat for the entire Baptism of Fire.

The fans knew it, too. While Hapilopper’s first two matches were not well attended, averaging about 20,000 fans in the 97,457 seat stadium, on this day, every seat was packed, with a pretty much even split between the Hapiloppians and fans from Terre Septentrionale. Among the fans joining the Hapiloppians were Leroy Hunnisett, brother of HNFT midfielder Murray, and Charlton Forest, starting pitcher for the Kingsland Braves baseball team. Standing next to Charlton was actor Patrick Marshan, star of the recently-released smash movie “The Buddy Cops,” a film about two childhood friends turned police officers.

Back in Hapilopper, millions of people tuned into Venerable Television’s coverage of the match. Bars across Hapilopper were packed with beer-drinking fans wanting to see how their team would do against their biggest threat to date, against the very potent Terre Septentrionale team. Never mind the fact it was still morning in Hapilopper, and the western portions of the nation were still seeing the sun rise. This match was going to be must-see TV. It wasn’t as if Hapilopper was facing so-called “tomato cans.” Instead, they were facing a team with as much potential as they had, a team that had rolled over Lashnakia, 6-2 and tied with Amuaplye, the other threat of the group, 1-1. This match, everyone was sure, would be a close one.

When the HNFT came through the tunnel just before the match, VTV’s Robert Skippers attempted to get a comment from anyone from the team. A player, the head coach, anyone…?

Nobody was in the mood to talk. The intensity exhibited by the entire team was palpable. Even Ernie Stevenson, who had hilariously guaranteed strong results in the first two matches of the season – then followed through on those guarantees – was silent. Later on, Ernie admitted that he was “nervous as hell” that the Hapiloppians would get knocked off, right then and there.

The intensity showed as VTV’s cameras showed the HNFT singing the Hapiloppian National Anthem, “The Sun Always Shines on Hapilopper.” Players could be seen almost shouting the words to the anthem, with an intensity that mirrored troops going to war.

As the match started, fans all over Hapilopper watched intently, hoping their countrymen would make them proud. Sure to manager Thom Perkins’ word, the match between the top two teams in the group turned out to be one of the most exciting matches all season, and for a period of time during the match, it appeared that Terre Septentrionale would end up taking a great victory. 35 minutes in, Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa, that team’s feared striker, sent one into the back of the net after eluding all of Hapilopper’s defenders and Cooter Harris, who zigged when Fryderyka zagged.

She got another goal 42 minutes in, successfully making both Nick Seward and Scott Dukes look like idiots as she rushed by both of them on the way to kicking one into the back of the net. When the teams went to the locker rooms for the halftime break, the Hapiloppians were a group of sadsacks, feeling like they had just blown the most important match in the team’s young history. But then Ernie Stevenson spoke up. He had a smile on his face, much unlike virtually everyone else in the room. He had seen something from the Terre Septentrionale team, and he was ready to expose it.

“I saw something near the end of that half,” Ernie said. “I’m going to go right through it. We’ll win this match. That’s a promise.”

Thom Perkins looked like he wanted to kill his lead striker.

“You’re doing this NOW?” Thom shouted at Ernie. “We’re down two-nil, and you think this is the time for that kind of crap? Give me a break!”

“OK, fine, doubt me, but I’m going to do it,” Ernie said in response. He had a huge smile on his face. “Just give me the ball and I’ll make you proud.”

When the second half got going, members of the HNFT were ready for something magical. The whistle was blown, and Ernie took the ball. He looked at his midfielders, nodded his head, and they knew what they needed to do.

“Gentlemen, let’s plow the road!” Murray Hunnisett shouted at his other four midfielders.

And plow the road they did. The midfield held off their opponents with ease, as Ernie ran towards the goal, nearly uncontested, and shot it past goalkeeper Zofia Kwietniewska in the 46th minute. The score, 2-1.

In the 55th minute, Ernie, using Beautiful Bobby East and Steve Erickson as assistants, shot past the Northern Land defensemen to fire a bullet from 25 yards out to tie the match. And then things got physical.

In the 67th minute, Zbigniew Zajaczkowski was on the way to a sure goal for the Northern Land, if he could only get the ball past Cooter Harris. Nathan Ellis, however, Hapilopper’s penultimate line of defense, slid his leg between the ball and Zajaczkowski’s foot, knocking the ball out of the way and tripping the Northern Land striker. Tempers started to flare. The two screamed obscenities at each other as the other 20 players on the pitch rushed towards their teammate to try to stop this from getting out of hand, and it almost did.

“HEY! These guys want to FIGHT!” shouted VTV color commentator Harold Kellner. It almost appeared that sure enough, these two teams would throw down.

Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, as Ellis was held back by both Steve Erickson and Bobby East. In fact, Erickson getting Ellis out of there was an irony not lost on VTV’s Kellner and Jon Arnold, who pointed out how those two had been the focal points of the Hapilopper Football Association’s most violent incident a year previous.

As Ernie Stevenson and Thom Perkins walked over to check if Ellis had calmed down, Ellis screamed something at both the striker and the manager.

“You fucking put those guys AWAY!” he screamed. “We’re going to win this match!”

“You goddamn bet you we will,” Ernie said. “We’re going to win this match.”

The look on Ernie’s face became remarkably intense. He was one goal away from a hat trick, and more importantly, one goal from giving Hapilopper the lead, and he was going to do it, by any means necessary.

“Plow the road,” Ernie shouted at his teammates. “PLOW THE ROAD!”

They did just that. Twenty seconds after play restored, four minutes after Nate and Zbigniew had to be restrained from throwing down, and after the referee issued a yellow card to Nate for the cynical challenge, Ernie ran straight through Terre Septentrionale defenders to score his third goal of the match. Hapilopper now held a 3-2 lead.

In the 85th minute, Stevenson made it four goals, shooting one from the left side to the back of the net, making it a 4-2 score for Hapilopper. That’s how the match ended, to the sheer joy of the millions watching back home. Hapilopper had passed its first major test with comparatively flying colors.

After the match ended, Thom Perkins was asked about several key points in the match, like Terre Septentrionale taking an early lead.

“They’re a strong team, simply as that,” Thom said. “We prepared for them but apparently not enough. We had to change our plans around as quickly as we could.”

Questions were also raised over the fight that almost broke out between Hapilopper and Terre Septentrionale, on a foul that was unequivocally the Haps’ fault.

“The fact is, things got desperate,” Thom said. “I’m not going to say it was the right move, but it was a move that Nate felt he had to do. I’m not going to say it’s acceptable, and I’ll have a talk with him about it in the morning, but it obviously stopped a goal.”

Coming up next was Hapilopper’s match with Lashnakia, a team that had yet to score a victory in either of their two matches. They lost 3-1 to Amuaplye and 3-0 to the Cheetahs and Reptiles Coalison. The joking mood from the Haps would likely return once the match got started, but wasn’t there when training got started the next morning. Rather, the mood was relief that they had made it past one of the top teams in the group.

And they had. But how much further would they go? Time would only tell.

Port Ember's soccer team ready for next win in the Baptism of Fire League

By Erica Davies - Federation of Free Republics.

The following is an interview held between Erica Davies and Port Ember's football team manager - Stuart Baker on Monday.

Erica Davies: So did you and the team manage to rest today?

Stuart Baker: Indeed! Although we did not play today, it was not a complete off day. We reviewed the tapes of our previous two games intensively, in order to be able to build on our strengths and weaknesses. We also did some light field work, just to keep us fresh. We laid off with the normal intensive physical training though.

Erica Davies: Glad to hear! What would you say is some of your apparant strengths and weaknesses?

Stuart Baker: Well obviously I cannot divulge them all - but our aparrent strength is definitiely our superp fitness, combined with our amazing counter attack skills. We have proved that we have a strong combo with our midfield and strikers, leading to impressive goals. Our apparant weakness would be our defence. However I can attribute this on stagefright. We are working the backline hard, and am forseeing an improved backline in the next game. The lads are good - they will show you soon!

Erica Davies: You have mentioned that you took a day off from physical excercise, which is something yoir team is very famous for. How so?

Stuart Baker: Well I could delve into the science of the human body to explain my decision, but I'd rather stick to saying a name: Neil Strauss. Our fitness coach is an absolute legend, and has proved that - we propably have the fittest team in the league. So if the man says we rest - we rest.

Erica Davies: Fair enough! How would you rate the team's current morale and spirit?

Stuart Baker: Oh its fantastic! The entire team, each player and each staff member here has been wotking together for four years now, so well all know each other well and work together well. Also our last win has calmed our initial win and we feel confident for the games ahead.

Erica Davies: Good! How is the 2-1 loss of your first international team affecting the team?

Stuart Baker: Simply put - its not. We lost that game due to nerves and loss of focus, understandable mistakes for a first international game. Also you must consider that loss was not a horrible loss. We fought till the end and lost an honourable loss, which is not shamefull. And if you look at how close that loss was, compared to the beatings Timuria has dealt to their other opponents - we actually did bloody well!

Erica Davies: Makes sense. How is the support from the fans?

Stuart Baker: Honestly, its bloody amazing. We coud not have asked for a better fanbase honestly. Each game that we have played, we did so to a capacity crowd. Its shocking and amazing how many Port Emberians have come out to the Free Republics to support us, especially since football is still so young in Port Ember. The crowd's energy is electrifying and helps energise us during the games.

Erica Davies: Lastly, gameplan and predictions for your next match?

Stuart Baker: Well, without giving away too much, we are going to do what we do best. We will play to out strengths while working on our weaknesses. I wont give a score prediction - but I believe we are going to smash Kandonica. Of that I have no doubt.

Port Ember will play their third match of the Baptism of Fire League against Kandonica on tuesday in the Fierro del Infierno Stadium. It is reported that the 93,204 seat stadium has been sold out. Port Ember will play the closing match of the day. Coach Baxter has announced the same starting players as before.

Timuria Earn Decisive Victory

by Tufan Nursultan

Caras 0-2 Timuria

Ertan Renda (17), Mehmet Karaman (87)

The national team ran out with a well earned 2-0 win over Caras in an enthraled Fierro del Inferno Stadium. The game commanded the largest TV/streaming audience of any game played by the national team so far, with excitement building due to their 7-1 demolition of Kandonica, with 11.5 million unique viewers. A significant increase from the 6.6 million who watched the previous match and the 8 million who watched the opener.

The tone in the first 20 minutes indicated that while Caras occupy the bottom of the group, there are no easy games, with 10 players behind the ball Timuria had difficulty breaking down the stout defence. It took a piece of individual magic from Ertan Renda to break the deadlock. A stunning strike from 30 yards left the Caras goalkeeper scrambling, but unable to prevent it rocketing into the top corner.

Then followed a period of sustained and frustrating pressure, with the national team hitting the target no less than 8 times up until halftime with the opposing goalkeeper putting on an amazing show and singlehandedly keeping Caras in the game. The frustration clearly boiled over as Vatan Ercetin earned the national team's first yellow card of the tournament for a rough challenge on a central defender.

After the half, Timuria was shocked as Caras managed to get a shot to hit the bar from distance. This lapse in concentration provided Caras with their best opportunity of the game, they would fail to seriously challenge the national team's defence for the rest of the game, with Ozbek Sarikaya particularly showing improvement on his previous performances. The goal that sealed the game was scored by substitute Mehmet Karaman who slotted home a placed finish from a Tayyar Ozel cross that found its way into the danger area.

What they said after the game:

Bekir Altingunes: "We're exactly where we want to be right now. Three wins from three. It can't be better than that, but I'm keen to make sure we keep our feet on the ground and take it a game at a time."

Ozbek Sarikaya: "Well I obviously wasn't doing to well, but I tried something a bit different and... while I'm not sure it helped I feel like I've turned a corner."

Mehmet Karaman: "I was happy to get on the pitch and grab the goal that put it beyond doubt. I think we're showing that people can contribute from the top to the bottom of this team. Ignore us at your peril."

Ratings:

Saban Inekci 6/10 - The man between the sticks didn't have much to do, what he did have to do, he did his job.

Ozbek Sarikaya 7/10 - A steady improvement, Ozbek finally looked at ease in Altingunes' system. A key contributer in a solid defensive performance

Tuna Rustemoglu 7/10 - A strong performance by the 35 year old, after his bad performance in the first game he hasn't looked back and been a solid fixture.

Osman Hasanoglu 6/10 - Osman struggled to get going. Any offensive pressure Caras could muster usually came from lapses by him, was rightly substituted.

Gokdeniz Dag 7/10 - Another solid performance from the Uryanspor man.

Hakan Diren 6/10 - Hakan Diren has struggled to find consistently good form and was substituted for his trouble.

Yusuf Ihsanoglu 7/10 - Yusuf Ihsanoglu once again fulfilled his role, quietly having a solid game.

Tayyar Ozel 7/10 - Grabbed the final assist of the game and was a constant danger going forward.

Ertan Renda 8/10 - Another strong performance from Ertan Renda. While he would never be able to match his efforts in the last game, he still earned the man of the match honours.

Tekin Yavuz 6/10 - Was kept quiet for a lot of the game, very occasionally provided attacking impetus, but he will be looking over his shoulder at Caner Turan.

Vatan Ercetin 6/10 - Vatan cut a very frustrated figure as he was unable to really get any kind of clear cut chance and struggled quite badly to the point that he lashed out and got a yellow card. Was rightly substituted and given a stern talking to by Altingunes.

Subs:

Mehmet Karaman 7/10 - Came off the bench to grab a goal, very good cameo appearance.

Berkin Batuk 6/10 - Replaced Hakan Diren, but replicated a lot of his mediocrity in this match.

Metin Boz 7/10 - Managed to provide the final ingredient to the defence that Osman Hasanoglu seemed unable to this game. Acquitted himself very well.

Man of the Match: Ertan Renda - Ertan was very good value for his second consecutive man of the match award. After struggling in the first game he has put together a very good tournament so far.

The next match: The next match will be against Saciu who occupy third place in the group with 4 points from 2. Yet to taste defeat this will likely be a challenge equal to that presented by Port Ember. If Timuria maintain their perfect record there is a possibility that they will be able to ensure progression to the next round of the competition. The starting XI shall remain unchanged for the next game with Bekir Altingunes clearly convinced he has found his best side.

Odds: Timuria 2/1 Draw 3/2 Saciu 4/1

The Fire is Real Chapter 4:

Before the game against Caras

After training the players returned to the locker room, Ozbek looked despondent, he wondered where it was all going wrong. He felt a comforting hand on his shoulder and saw his club teammate Gokdeniz looking at him reassuringly, "Don't worry Ozbek it'll get easier." Ozbek gently removed his hand from his shoulder, sighing as Bekir called out loudly, "Ozbek, office. Now." As he ducked into the small office, to the murmurs of the team who wondered if Ozbek was about to get benched.

Ozbek walked in and saw his coach looking at a tablet with a spreadsheet on it, "Take a seat Ozbek we need to talk." Ozbek sat looking nervously at his manager. "Look, the first two games, they haven't been the easiest and I know there are nerves involved and this is something different for all of us. I just need to know if something is wrong. Are you hurt?"

Ozbek shook his head looking down, "I don't think I'm hurt boss, I'm just having a tough time that's all. I promise it'll get better."

Bekir looked sympathetically at his right-back, "Look Ozbek, I won't pretend to know what's going on in anyone's head. But you need to figure out what this is. Because I can't have the right side of my defence be a liability when there are players who are eager to play."

Ozbek nodded, "I'll see what I can do coach. I promise it'll get better when we play the next match."

Bekir stood up and opened the door, "Even if it doesn't I promise we'll work with you to try to see if we can make you more comfortable in the system."

Ozbek hastily departed and noticed Caner and Ismail looking at him, Caner smiled awkwardly, "Hey Ozbek, is something wrong?"

He turned to them exasperated, "I'm going to get benched because of how, terrible I've been playing." He kicked at his kit bag in frustration, then looked to the pair confused, "Where's Iskender? Doesn't he normally have something incredibly lazy to say?"

The pair shrugged, "He was running after some redheaded woman, you know the security one." Ismail started to pack his bag.

"Well I'm officially screwed. If I can't perform well here, I'll probably carry into the club and then any chance I have of getting out into the world is done." Ozbek lamented.

Caner looked to Ismail who nodded at him as if to confirm his plan, "Well why don't we help you?"

"Yeah, what's different? Do you have any rituals or something that you can't do here?"

Ozbek sighed, "So I guess I wake up, make a painting, do yoga-"

Caner cut him off, clearly thinking the list would never end, "Okay maybe we don't need to do that. What do you before you play?"

"Well I usually have a sip of water from my lucky bottle, which I have here. Then I tap the top of the door on the way out of the locker room and then I just go out and play." He explained.

"Maybe you need new rituals, you know for the Free Republics? I know there's a lot of weird Shaman types who came over here who might have something."

Ozbek looked reluctant and his face looked strained, "I mean I don't know. That doesn't sound like a wise idea."

Caner contemplated the possibility and shrugged, "Well it's either that or you get dropped after the next match."

Ozbek immediately replied, "Let's do it. Where's your Shaman guy?"

***

Iskender had skulked off into the hotel, he couldn't get her out of his head. Who was she? Why did he find her so intriguing? He had to know, he had to find answers to the burning questions. Something had felt off about this whole thing. How does an agriculture minister, who couldn't do his job end up as the manager of the national team? And why are professional looking women talking to him? He looked around the lobby hoping to see her. Nothing. She must have seen him coming. He walked not really paying attention to his surroundings, his mind focused more than it ever had before.

Suddenly he felt a dull pain, he was on the ground. He had tripped over a nondescript black rucksack. "S-sorry." He apologised as he got up and looked into the reflective surface of the woman's sunglasses. The penny dropped. "Hey you're that woman from personal security."

The woman appeared to be discomforted by the loudness of his voice and the directness he was addressing her with, "That's right." She adjusted the glasses.

Iskender extended his hand, "Iskender and you are?"

She kept her hand stubbornly by her side as she looked at him allowing silence to take over between them, before she picked up her bag, "Don't you have training to go to?"

Iskender shrugged, "Maybe, I actually lost my itinerary last night." He thought back to the moment he lit the itinerary on fire in order to light a cigarette.

At this point a familiar voice called out "Iskender! My office! Now!" It was Bekir, a look of anxiety in his eyes masked by covering fire of the anger in his voice.

Iskender sheepishly made his way, frogmarched by Bekir who mouthed "Sorry." To Rabia to his office. "What's the big idea Iskender, I told you we didn't want any funny business while we're here. So what are you doing."

Iskender stood up and bristled at the questioning, "What's she doing here, she's obviously not 'personal security' she's always skulking around the team. You blew your top when I brought a girl to our training, so why is she special?"

"That girl was a prostitute so I wasn't exactly pleased with you bringing one to our public training." Bekir seethed, "Look there are some things you just can't know about for your own good. Can you just drop this?"

Iskender looked away annoyed, "Just. Tell me why you're managing us. You're a bureaucrat not a sports person."

Bekir sighed exasperated, "Look Iskender, you've got it all in front of you. I made a mistake, not the famous mistake, but another one. I'm paying for it now." Bekir's angry facade cracked as he simply looked sad. As if the joy and rage had been sapped out of him, "Just... go do whatever you want Iskender. But don't get yourself mixed up in my business just because you're bored."

Iskender narrowed his eyes, still uncertain what exactly his manager had done to cause such an odd presence around the team, but he got up and wordlessly walked out of the room.

***

Caner, Ismail and Ozbek walked into a public park, a large group of Timurian supporters were enjoying the warmth of the day. The crowd's murmuring quietened as they recognised the players as they looked around. Caner couldn't stop himself giving an awkward wave to the fans who began to flood towards the players. More of them wanted selfies with Caner than the other two, but no one was overtly hostile to Ozbek, which boosted his confidence in itself.

Taking the opportunity of the fuss around the attention seeking winger, Ismail and Ozbek sneaked away from the crowd and found a surprisingly young woman in a robe, sitting crossed legged on the floor. Ozbek instinctively felt nervous and looked around at the various jars containing strange objects she had around her. "I've been expecting you. A troubled soul."

Startled Ozbek spun around and began to walk away, shaken by the suddenness in her address. Ismail pulled him by the collar so he was facing her again, "My friend is having performance issues."

Ozbek blushed and blurted out, "On the pitch. Only on the pitch. Not the..." He chuckled nervously. "You know."

A silence fell between the three of them, that felt like an eternity, "Well I can always do a reading of him."

Ozbek protested, "Oh no I don't want any weird folk crap poking into my brain." He grabbed a jar with a strange meaty mass in it, "I'll take this pickled bull's testicle and be on my way." He tossed her some money and hastily walked away with the jar and grabbed Caner from the crowd, making their way back to the hotel for Ozbek's new ritual.

Caner asked before they left the park, "What's with the bull testicle?" Met with silence from the pair who had engaged with the strange shamanist lady.

The West Phoenician Stampedes narrow loss in game 3 againt Abercontin-Jereaux drops the nation to the number two spot in the St. Paulus Group.
With four games before the Round of 20 begins management is not concerned at this stage and are confident they will climb back to the number one spot in their grouping.

The 2-1 was not a terrible loss for the team who debuted this season on the football circuit however to lose on their home turf was disappointing to many fans who had come out to support the team.
Head Coach Patrick Newman said the defensiveine has been playing strong, the game was winding down and a momentary loss of focus was in place with defensive believing the game would end in a tie.

Thomas Singh who was acting goalkeeper for the match while Daniel Foster had an off day took responsibility for Abercontin-Jereai Lee Kangwon scoring their second goal in the last two minutes of the game. While focused, he was outplayed diving to the left when his gut instruct had told him to dive to the right.

West Phoenician fans rallied behind their team booing Abercontin-Jereai Lee Kangwon with many telling him to go back where he came from. This is the first time West Phoenicia has encountered
Abercontin-Jereai; with many teams they are aware of the country and its history but in this instant no one really had an idea. West Phoenician fans can be a mixed bag, many a time the media has reported on the bad behaviour of players and fans alike.
Thomas Singh also reported getting booed as he left the field after the game by a small number of fans.

Manager Yusuf Weir waved off the booos, saying fans had a right of freedom of expression, it was nothing serious just national pride and patriotism at play. But condemned whoever threw an egg at his car as he left the stadium.

West Phoenicia will next play Lepolanatnessffiria who currently sit at the bottom of the grouping.

Starcom knocks off Bernegastad 4-2

Saintland - The Starcom Star Boys win 4-2 in Saintland, lead by James Sa'afa's two goals Starcom took a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Sa'afa scored his fifth and sixth goals in the later stages of the game and his last one sealed the win for the Star Boys. Jay Bradley, part of the "Fabulous Flying Bradley Brothers" got scoring off to a flying start as he got a fabulous goal at minute 15. Following this act Brenegastad attacked multiple times and actually got some good looks on goal but could not get by the long frame of former basketball player Jeff Vernon. the lanky 6'3'' goalie used his massive wingspan to deflect and catch several shots by Brenegstad. This combined with the usually taller Starcom defenders helped keep the game 3-0 in the 50th minute. Those following two goals were scored by Miles Jurjic in minute 32 and James Sa'afa in the 41st. Jurijic's goal was the first for the Castle Landon 247 midfielder and unlike most players on this squad the 22 year old former college star has yet to participate in a Big Six Tournament.

The second half of the game had a more Bernegenstad feel to it as it was clear Starcom let off the gas. in the 58th minute a Bernegstad player did get a penalty kick after a misplaced tackle by Logan Smith lead to a yellow card for the lanky defender. Like with the original Campanio Esportiva that Starcom entered, the aggressive play of the Star Boys did bring the game back closer as Berengestad did get a second penalty kick at minute 68 when reserve defender Jack Gunner made a misplaced tackle on a forward. But by then Sa'afa had scored his second goal of the day and it was also the one that sealed the win for Starcom as a 4-2 victory was reached.

Bliuji's preformance

Postby Bliuji » Tue Jul 16, 2019 1:53 pm

Bliuji, has had a better than expected preformance in the first 3 games of the bof. Lots of sports analysts across the nation; were not expecting Bliuji to be at 2nd place in their group. Although Bliuji does have some players you need to watch out for, their defense and offense are not to special at all. At yesterdays practice, we sent down reporter James Hinchuk to talk to Bliuji's coach and players, here's what they had to say during the interview.

"Why do you think you are doing better than expected in the bof" James Hinchuk asked Head coach Andriy Shevchenko.

"We've been grinding very hard in practice from monday to friday to get ready for the bof everyone out here works extreamly hard, it's not one player carrying the team; it's a team effort and our players know that." said Head coach Andriy Shevchenko.

Team captain, Erik Belov was also interviewd about his preformance.

"How do you feel about your teams overall preformance throughout the bof" asked James Hinchuk

"I think we are playing some of the best soccer right now. Our players arn't even mechanically skilled or anything we just have very good chemistry playing on the field."

Back in Bliuji, the fans are also shocked about this too there was chearing throughout the streets of downtown Prussia when Bliuji beat Paratan by only 1 goal.

Results: San Felix climbs up to the 1st spot with 7 points, holding a noticeable lead against Starcom Racing. Starcom Racing trails San Felix for just one point, putting them in the second place of the board; a remarkable comeback! Bernegastad dropped to fourth after a disappointing loss against Starcom Racing, putting their chance to advance at risk.

Tornado Queendom drops down to 3rd place with 5 points a comfortable lead, but, considering how it's anybody's game at this point, they should be very careful to not lose. Winning, or maybe a draw, are the only choices they've got to hold their lead in the tables.

In a surprising turn of events, San Felix is now leader on the Group tables and just needs to win a few games more to go through the group stages. Will luck stay by our side during the next match? Tune in and find out!

Terre Septentrionale blows a 2-0 lead and loses the game

Los Martires, Malifornia, Free Republics - Terre Septentrionale took a 2-0 lead in the first half and then lose 4-2, mostly because of bad officiating and Hapilopper players being unnecessary violent. Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa took the game in charge at the 35th minute when Pawel Wawrzynkiewicz made a cross to her and then she shot right into the net and the score was 1-0 Nordiques. Then at the 42nd minute, Amelia Zalwowska made a short pass to Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa who dribbled and kicks the ball and it's a goal. it was 2-0 Terre Septentrionale at the halftime.

Then things unexplicably went wrong. Ernie Stevenson scored two goals to tie the game. Then at the 67th minute, Élisabeth Normandin passed forward to Zbigniew Zajaczkowski and he was on the way to a sure goal but he was tripped by Nathan Ellis and then things got ugly. Zbigniew Zajaczkowski standed up and started yelling at Nathan Ellis who was shouting at him too and both pushed each other and they both were about to fight when their teammates retained them. It reminds me that domestic game back in 2020 when Zbigniew Zajaczkowski from Szczakowianka Trzebiegoszcz got in a fight with Krzysztof Januszkiewicz, the KKS Wlokniarz 1925 Krzczonow's central defender. Both were suspended 3 games. Well I don't wanna report the rest of the game, so let's just say Hapilopper scored 2 more goals and Terre Septentrionale lost 4-2.

3rd Place

With a draw against Amuaplye and a loss against Hapilopper, Terre Septentrionale is in 3rd place with 4 points, one point ahead of Cheetahs and Reptiles Coalison and Lavize. The Coalison is a team who can bypass the Northmen in the standings but it would be doubtful if Lavize does the same. Terre Septentrionale will now likely finish 4th in the standings and will probably play against a team finishing 1st in it's group, which means a tough road for the Reprezentacja Nordycki in the playoffs. Terre Septentrionale's next game is against Lavize, a team they can beat. Now let's watch cat videos on SanctusTube, much better than writing match reports of a game we lost badly.

Port Ember smashes their way to another victory!

Port Ember 5 - Kandonica 2

By Erica Davies - Federation of Free Republics.

Port Ember's national football team has smashed their way to their second consecutive international victory, as part of the Baptism of Fire League this tuesday, with a mightily impressive 5-2 final score.

The match took place in the Fierro del Infierno Stadium, and the 93,204 seats was filled to the brim, with an enormous turnout from Port Emberian fans, for the third time in a row. Port Ember is steadilly gaining a reputation for their passionate supporter base.

Port Ember looked impressive and unstoppable on the field, and is clearly improving with each match that they play, giving much hope to the nation, wishing to see our lads make a mark on the international football scene.

The tone for the match was set from kickoff, when Port Ember scored a swift and decisive goal in the third minute. The best way to describe this goal is by directly quoting the ringside announcer:

"There goes the opening whistle, with Nicovic kicking off deep into his own field, passing it to captain Reddington. Reddington moves the ball forward slowly, with both Kandonica strikers chasing towards him.. And he passes HARD to the left wing, Chamberlain has the ball and he is scrambling down the field, Kandonica's defence is mustering to mob him.. and he power passes the ball deep to the center, Nicovic has the ball and quickly passes the ball up to the right flank where striker Moult is playing with the ball, not moving forward, challenging the Kandonica defence - they are all over him! AND HE PASSES DOWN TO THE CENTER WHERE NICOVIC IS WAITING ALMOST ALONE! HE IS IN THE BOX! HE BEATS THE LAST DEFENDER.. SHOOOTS!! AND ITS A BLOODY MARVELOUS SCORE!! Clinical shot into the bottom corner of the net. Bloody marvelous!"

After the restart, Port Ember played impressive team football, passing the ball around a lot, maintaining possession and went to work to tire their opponents, without taking serious chances and not attempting to push too hard.

In the 20th minute, a clearly frustrated Kandonica side pushed too deep into the Port Emberian side, and was punished for it when Reddington stole the ball again, passed it deep down field, and the two strikers worked together well, with Nicovic finding the back of the net once more, assisted by Moult.

10 minutes later the same pattern emerged, with Reddington setting off a counter attack and created an oppertunity for Nicovic to score his hatrick. Again I qoute the announcer:

"Kandonica is looking good, pushing down range hard.. they should be carefull not too push to far entirely as Port Ember has already punished them with their deep counters.. My goodness! Its happening! Reddington has just stole possession from the striker.. and lunges the ball deep down the center of the field!! Theres no one there, Nicovic is chasing the ball!!! He gets possession.. he performs a dribble, outsmarting the last defender.. THERES NONE LEFT!! AND HE SCORES!! The keeper never knew what hit him! Thats a hatrick!"

The first half ended with Kandonica stealing a hard worked for goal in the 45th minute.

The second half saw a Port Emberian team who clearly outclassed their opponents, Kandonica clearly frustrated and tired, with the Port Emberians cool and still fresh.

The Port Emberians scored another two consecutive goals, one from a corner, planted via a headbut from Reddington, followed up by a solo goal from striker Moult, running with the ball from deep within his own territory, beating 5 defenders. A total smashing score.

Kandonica scored again in the last 5 minutes of the match, with Port Ember by then clearly not interested in the match anymore.

The coach, players and fans alike expressed joy at the victory and feels confident that the fire of hope remains to possibly reach the quarterfinals.

Match Analysis - Port Ember

Port Ember was clearly prepared for the match, and its clear that the last of their stagefright has dissapaited. They have once again proved that their strengths is their superb fitness levels and dangerous counter attacking skills. They have also displayed an improved defensive line - but it does need some more improvement.

Player Scores

Goalkeeper (GK)(#1): Peter Smith - 8/10. Once again did this young man keep up his good form, stopping 4 out of 6 shots at goal. Definitely a player to keep an eye on.

Center Back (CB)(#2): Josh Richards - 6/10. Improved from previous games, and was quite active. However still made a few mistakes. Needs to improve soon or risk being benched.

Center Back (CB)(#3): Jason Lee. 7/10. Looked impressive in the first half, stealing a lot of possession. Would like to see more however, from this talented young man.

Full Back (LB)(#4): Alex Kuhn - 6/10. Improved from previous games, and was quite active. However still made a few mistakes. Needs to improve soon or risk being benched.

Full Back (RB)(#5): Russel Pierce - 6/10. Improved from previous games, and was quite active. However still made a few mistakes. Needs to improve soon or risk being benched.

Attacking Midfield (AM)(#10): Raymond Reddington - 9/10.

If it was not for Nicovic's hatrick, he would have surely picked up the man of the match award. His skill at organising the defence, and creating counter attack oppertunities in combination with his strikers makes him deadly. Personally think he can achieve legend status with future exposure. He also scored a beautifull corner header.

Defensive Midfield (DM)(#6): Steven Packard - 7/10. Clearly developing in his midfield role. Lots of future potential, as he displayed all the right moves in the midfield.

Wide Midfield (LM)(#8): Jason Chamberlain - 6/10. Clearly developing in his midfield role. Lots of future potential, as he displayed all the right moves in the midfield.

Wide Midfield (RM)(#11): Steve Rogers - 6/10. Played a decent game, making no serious mistakes, but not shining in any particular manner.

Central Forward (CF)(#7): Leon Moult - 7/10. Biggest improvement in the team. Significant improvement from his last two games. He scored a beautifull goal and assisted Nicovic well, tiring out the defence.

Central Forward (CF)(#9): Danny Nicovic 8/10. Played a brilliant game, scoring a hatrick. Was a true nightmare to the opponents defence and midfield. Possesses a clinical finishing skill. Alongside Reddigton, truly a match made in heaven.

Injury Bug Strikes As Timuria Edge Game

by Tufan Nursultan

Timuria 1-0 Saciu

Vatan Ercetin (34)

Two unfortunate injuries struck the national team in a narrow win over Saciu that secured qualification for the knock-out stages and left the team one win away from all but guaranteeing top spot. A sense of excitement has continued to build around the national team, with more viewers tuning in to watch the games. The game was an even affair throughout, with the Saciu team putting up one of the most effective resistances to the national team so far in the tournament.

The first chance of the game fell to Ertan Renda who fired wide from the edge of the box. Saciu challenged Saban Inekci from set pieces and an early warning for the national team occurred when the centre forward hit the bar from a corner, leaping between both centre backs who had been unable to agree who was meant to be covering the striker. A 19th minute strike by Vatan Ercetin was gathered easily by the opposing goalkeeper as he was unable to strike the ball cleanly taking away most of the power from the shot. Ertan Renda was forced off in the 22nd minute with a leg injury, limping off the field he was replaced by Metin Aytacoglu.

This substitution would be a blessing in disguise as Metin played the ball into Vatan in the 34th minute and he was able to slot the ball past a sprawling goalkeeper to give the national team a 1-0 lead. Disaster would strike the national team, as a collision between a Saciu striker, Tuna Rustemoglu, Saban Inekci and the post would knock out the goalkeeper necessitating a substitution. Altingunes took the odd step of keeping his designated number 2 keeper on the bench and sent out Hasan Kocaeli to play out the remainder of the game.

The second half would pass by relatively uneventfully, a 55th minute shot by Metin stung the palms of the Saciu keeper as he was able to palm it over the bar. From the ensuing corner Tuna Rustemoglu would have scored had it not been disallowed for a foul by him. Saciu would also have scored a goal had their striker not been offside. As the match wore on it became clear that fitness was on the side of the national team as they began to play a patient possession game to sap the energy of their opponents and run down the clock, which they succeeded in.

This win leaves the national team 6 points clear of Port Ember at the top of the table, though Port Ember have a game in hand over the national team. Bekir Altingunes will have a decision to make in terms of how he'll replace Ertan Renda and Saban Inekci, with his decision during the game indicating a lack of faith in Iskender Nur.

What they said after the game:

Bekir Atlingunes on Ertan Renda: "Upon closer inspection the injury isn't too bad, but we'll be holding him out of the next game as a precaution to allow him to recover fully. I have faith in the squad to be able to cover for him."

On Saban Inekci: "We're still assessing the severity of what's happened to him, naturally if a player is getting knocked out by the post we're entering concussion protocol and we'll be following the advice of the team doctors."

Vatan Ercetin: "I'm delighted to grab another goal, but really I'm thinking about Saban, the whole team are. I know that he'll appreciate the support from the fans he'll get regardless of how severe the injury is."

Ratings:

Saban Inekci 6/10 - Prior to his injury he was having a rather pedestrian day between the sticks, doing his job well.

Ozbek Sarikaya 7/10 - Another good performance from the previously struggling full-back, Ozbek has really found his form.

Tuna Rustemoglu 6/10 - A component in the incident that knocked out Saban, though it wasn't his or the Saciu player's fault. Had an otherwise very boring pedestrian day.

Osman Hasanoglu 7/10 - Osman had the better day of the two centre-backs dominating in the air and tackling strongly.

Gokdeniz Dag 6/10 - A dull performance where he seemed to disappear, but not noticing defenders isn't the worst thing that can happen for a team was substituted in the 69th minute.

Hakan Diren 7/10 - Hakan Diren continued his improvement from the opener putting in another solid performance in midfield.

Yusuf Ihsanoglu 7/10 - Yusuf put in another good performance and manged to act as an effective screen for the defence, taking a lot of the pressure.

Tayyar Ozel 6/10 - Tayyar was kept quiet for a lot of the game, but managed to make the occasional key pass.

Ertan Renda 6/10 - Prior to his injury, he was struggling to make the impact he had in previous games, routinely losing the ball and often appeared to struggle to communicate well with his teammates.

Tekin Yavuz 6/10 - Aside from one cross that gave the goalkeeper trouble, Tekin didn't do very much this game.

Vatan Ercetin 7/10 - He took his goal well and provided almost all the attacking impetus.

Subs:

Hasan Kocaeli 6/10 - Didn't have very much to do in relief of the injured Saban Inekci, but did well when called upon.

Metin Aytacoglu 7/10 - Had the unenviable task of replacing Ertan following an injury, but he managed to provide an assist for the only goal of the game.

Beyhan Enver 6/10 - Came on and performed adequately, provided much needed energy and fresh legs to a defence that wanted to avoid flagging towards the end of the match.

Man of the Match: Vatan Ercetin - The scorer of the only goal and pretty much the only consistent threat that the opposing defence had to deal with.

The next match: The next match will be against Amurbia who are currently in third place, one point behind Port Ember. They will provide another stern challenge to the national team, especially now that they'll have to cope without 2 first choice players. The starting XI will likely be the same except it is speculated that Vatan Ercetin will occupy the attacking midfielder role vacated by Ertan Renda and that Iskender Nur will in fact be starting as goalkeeper.

Odds: Timuria 4/3 Draw 3/1 Amurbia 4/1

Bliuji takes down Asdia 3-1

In yesterdays game, Bliuji managed to score 3 goals against Asdia. This was a great preformance on defense and offense for Bliuji. Goalkeeper Philip Tretiakov played in his first ever international game letting in 1 goal. Other noteable preformances included midfielder Sidor Alexandrov, who had all 3 of Bliuji's assists; as well as striker David Izmaylov scoring 2 goals. And captain Erik Belov having 1 goal. General Manager Andriy Voronin was interviewed about his feelings on yesterdays game.

The team did play very well, and we need to continue to play this way throughout the bof and in the world cup. The teamwork is amazing in these games and we have to make sure it stays that way. -Andriy Voronin

The West Phoenician Stampedes were back in fine form today as they took on Lepolanatnessffiria in match 4 of the Baptism of Fire. West Phoenicia defeated their opposition scoring 2 goals. Jason Summer scored a stunning goal in the first half of the game that had the growing number of West Phoenician fans jumping out of their seats, many calling out words of praises, why others yelled at "Stampedes, Stampedes, Stampedes".

The second goal was scored in the last 5 Minutes of the game by none other than Chandler Goodwin who dropped to his knees with tears for scoring his first goal of the season unaided.

Head Coach Patrick Newman praised the hard work of the team who did not let the previous loss against Abercontin-Jereaux affect their current game at. The lost one, brushed it off and melt going. Three games remaining and West Phoenician are getting more excited that they may make the next round.

The Fire is Real Chapter 5:

The squad sat in the locker room, the victory barely sunk in as they all looked nervously at each other. Two of their number were forced off the pitch during the game and the tension in the room tugged at everyone. Senol barrelled out of the doctors office and sighed exasperated, it looked to the team as if he had just been in an argument. Iskender stood up and slowly began to make his way towards the doctor's area, the rest of the team sheepishly joined him, curious about the condition of Saban and Ertan.

The team gathered around the door of the team doctor's area, wondering what had happened to their starting goalkeeper. Iskender sulked at the back of the group, unhappy at the prospect of having to start, but equally uneasy at the fact that his manager had chosen not to put him on the pitch and instead turned to the older Hasan. It bothered him, was he going to be supplanted as backup? That would ruin his whole trajectory. These thoughts polluted his mind as his teammates waited nervously as they heard Bekir yell "Damn it!"

The whole team flinched in unison and dispersed not wanting to be caught up in the crossfire of whatever was going on in there. He walked out and saw the team, actively trying to look innocent. "Okay I know you guys are curious, there's good news and bad news." He stood on a chair and whistled to grab everyone's attention again, "The good news is Ertan is only going to miss the next game, he should be back for the rest of the tournament." A sigh of relief permeated the room at the news.

Iskender looked up at him nervously, Bekir's eyes met his, they both snapped their gazes away as he began to speak, "The bad news is Saban is... concussed and concussed pretty bad. It's too much of a risk for him to play any of the remaining group stage matches." The team looked at each other, wondering who would be their marshal in goal. "Now I know you're all wondering who the goalkeeper will be, but I promise you everything will be revealed after tomorrow's training. We'll be having a special session to put Iskender and Hasan to the test." He stepped down and made his way towards the makeshift office, "You two. Office. Now." He pointed at the two reserve goalkeepers.

The pair sheepishly entered his office and Bekir pointed to the two chairs set out in front of his desk. "Now you two are probably wondering why I put Hasan in instead of Iskender." The pair nodded lightly, "Well to put it bluntly it's because I haven't seen enough from you Iskender. You're lazy and slacking off in training."

Iskender looked down, "I... I don't really get it coach, you named me as the backup?"

He sighed and looked at the clock in the room, "Let me put it in terms you understand. You see a hot girl at a party right." Hasan looked visible uncomfortable at the managers choice of metaphor, "So you want to take her home to your room and go all the way with her right?"

Iskender shrugged, "I'd probably settle for a-"

Bekir thankfully spared everyone some embarrassment by cutting off Iskender, "Okay that's all I needed to hear and it's exactly what I suspected. I don't want someone who's going to settle managing our defence from the goalkeeper position. So I'm going to bump you down to third keeper and give the start to Hasan. Unless you have something to say about that?" Bekir baited him hoping for some kind of response.

"I want to start." Iskender said plainly, surprising himself and the other men in the room, "I don't want to settle." He took a deep breath, "Let me prove it."

Bekir smiled at Hasan, "Well we can have a scrimmage tomorrow, 20 attacks from the first team offence against the first team defence. Whoever concedes the fewest gets the start." Hasan stood up and left the room hastily as Iskender sat there looking down, wondering what came over him, he was exactly where he wanted to be, but it had all felt hollow through the tournament and maybe earning Bekir's trust could lead him to some clues about what was going on around the team. "You know I wanted to see this kind of desire from you, I was hoping it would be for the full time starting role, but I'll take it. Now get out of my office and get ready."

Iskender stood up and collected himself, "Yes coach." Before he spun on his heel and left the office.

***

Hasan stood between the posts and called out to the defence as the offensive players made their move, this was the first attack of the 20 he would face. Tayyar whipped a wicked ball in and Vatan struck the ball hard at him, he reflectively kicked the ball away. One save down. The next four would be comfortably dealt with, but as Vatan volleyed from 20 yards he found himself unable to scramble across the goal fast enough to save it.

The next set of attacks didn't trouble him, clearing almost all of the with a strong punch. Iskender watched nervously, there was no way he would go 20 attacks without conceding. His prayers were answered when Metin rocketed a shot into the top corner, giving him at least one goal he could let in. All in all Hasan acquitted himself excellently, building nerves in Iskender's stomach.

Bekir applauded the 39 year old goalkeeper, "Well done Hasan, great job. Iskender you're up. Good luck." Hasan and Iskender crossed paths, Hasan stopped to chat with him, "Good luck Iskender, I'm sure you'll do better than me." He patted his younger teammate on the shoulder encouragingly. Iskender ran on, not acknowledging him verbally, half through nerves half out of fear that he'd throw up if he opened his mouth.

He took his place in goal and the whistle pierced the air, signalling the first attack. It had already gone wrong, Vatan fired the ball from the six yard line into the roof of the net. His margin of safety was already gone. He was left scrambling, every attack feeling like life or death for him. While it wasn't pretty or elegant or even by the book, he managed to make it to the final attack only conceding once. He would at least tie, not the worst case scenario, he could make a case for himself.

Something clicked in his mind however, he didn't want to have to justify himself, it was much better for him to win outright. He had seen the glory his teammates basked in whenever they won and while he enjoyed being around that, it all felt hollow, like something was missing. He needed to show he belonged, even if it was only until Saban was back from his concussion. As he was thinking the ball went out wide, whipped in wickedly by Tayyar. He knew this was it. He couldn't let the cross go unchallenged, but he knew if he made a mistake he would be left in no mans land.

He ran out, his mind racing, his hear almost stopping as he leapt into the air and got a hand on the ball, deflecting it to safety before he fell on the ground. He had done it, he would be the starter. Confirmed by the final whistle of the coach and him calling out "Well done Iskender, well done."

A wave of happiness has jumped uppon the nation Zealandiana becuase of uts three way win into qualifiers. During the last macth zealandiana won by 1 goal which is quite not a big target The goalkeeper vinamra kumar stopped its five goals with his right hand injuring himself. The team is currently at it's venue making something big sort of strategy. The weather was cool and rainy. There were risks of rain but everything settled awesome. One of the mid-fielders were given penalty during his hand over his hips for ball.

Zealandiana's next MACTH tommorow is expected to get. Ore then 5million visitors.

Wish you best of luck zealandiana.......

Coliseum of the Crucifixion, Los Martires, Charter Society of Malifornia
Match four – Hapilopper vs. Lashnakia
All things considered, the Hapiloppians could be excused if they were looking past this match against Lashnakia and thinking more about their upcoming match with Amuaplye coming up. Those watching on Venerable Television in Hapilopper and on television stations worldwide could plainly see that the HNFT was not playing at 100 percent, but in all fairness, they didn’t need to. It was the top team in the Los Martires group going up against the bottom team. Anyone could see how the result would turn out.

Heading into the match, the Haps had led the group, was one of three undefeated teams in the entire Baptism of Fire, and had the largest goal differential (+10) and scored the most goals. By comparison, Lashnakia had yet to win a match and had a -6 goal differential. Consequently, all the pundits predicted yet another victory for the HNFT on this day, regardless of who started, and on this day, Thom Perkins, manager and head coach of the national team, decided that some of his starters could use a rest.

When some of the players, including Ernie Stevenson, Steve Erickson, Nick Seward and Nate Ellis saw their names not on the starting XI or on the bench players, they asked their boss about it. They weren’t upset about it, they just wanted to know what was going on.

“I need you guys to be rested up for the Amuaplye match,” Thom said. “You’ll be training first thing in the morning, but you guys take the day off. That match will decide this group and decide how we do for the knockout round of this tournament. But y’all just take the day off and relax.”

Instead, John Cornett would start as forward for the HNFT, while Stan Long took Erickson’s spot, while Peanut Carlisle took Seward’s spot and Donnie Armistead took Ellis’s spot. It is likely Ellis would have been replaced anyway, following the controversial challenge that nearly led to a full-scale brawl between the Hapiloppian and Terre Septentrionale teams. Thom was not happy about the challenge in the slightest and wanted an answer from his defenseman about what happened.

“Look, I was trying to get the ball away from him,” Ellis responded. “I wasn’t trying to take him down and I wasn’t trying to injure him. If anything, I missed.”

“Well, you damn near started a riot out there, and that’s not what we need out there,” Thom barked. “You’ve been warned once to stay on your best behavior.”

The fourth match of the group phase was almost an afterthought for everyone. While Hapilopper was well on their way to a fourth victory and three more points, everyone was still talking about the Terre Septentrionale match and the Amuaplye match to come. They were still talking about the midfielders “plowing the road” en route to Ernie Stevenson scoring four goals in the match, and of course, they were talking about the shoving match that nearly turned violent in the match.

The fact is, this match was never competitive. Hapilopper only scored two goals – a brilliant header from Cornett in the 34th minute, assisted by Stan Long, and a shot from the left side courtesy of Pat Morris in the 79th, but the general consensus among veteran observers was that the HNFT could have scored any time they wanted to. The match could have ended 7-0 or 8-0 the way the Haps possessed the ball, and how players could pass amongst each other with ease.

“My guess is they didn’t want to exert themselves too much,” said VTV’s Harold Kellner. “They’re looking to Amuaplye and I can hardly blame them. They could pretty much wrap up the group with a victory against them and they want to be at their best. That’s why we didn’t see anything from Ernie Stevenson today. They don’t want him to get hurt in a match like this.”

That point came drastically clear in the 81st minute when Pat Morris was tackled by a Lashnakia defender, sending Morris sprawling to the turf and in obvious pain. That defender received a yellow card for the challenge, and received the wrath of the rest of the HNFT, especially Peanut Carlisle, who said something to the defender that led to a yellow card for Peanut. Neither Peanut nor the rest of the HNFT would say exactly what was said that led to the challenge, but according to the match notes released to the media by the referees, Peanut said something about wanting to make the defender “his bitch.”

Fortunately for Morris, the injury wasn’t as severe as first predicted, merely a heavy sprain to his knee, but he was asked to not put weight on it for a few days.
After the match, Thom was asked about the injury and about the challenge, and he seemingly brushed it off.

“Just somebody trying to make something out of nothing,” Thom said. “I’ve done it before, everyone’s done it before, it was aggressive, but it wasn’t blatantly illegal. Honestly, I can’t complain since Nate Ellis did something similar in the last match.”

It was obvious that Thom, however, was thinking ahead to the Amuaplye match.

“They’re the last big threat in the group,” Thom said. “They’ve got some great players, and they’re guys we have to neutralize if we’re going to emerge victorious. It’s by no means a guarantee and it’s by no means a sure thing we’ll end up victorious. We’ll need to be at our very best to beat them, and we’ll need our guys to be at the top of their game.”

Thom explained that he deliberately sat down several of his players for the Lashnakia match to make sure they were at 100 percent.

“Quite literally, the worst thing that would have happened is Ernie Stevenson got hurt during the match we just played,” Thom said. “We need him and we need his striking ability for this match, and we need those defensemen we sat down. We can’t have them getting hurt when we’ve got a top-tier team to play. If we don’t have them, we can’t be at our best. Simple as that.”

At the end of play, Hapilopper held a five-point lead over both Terre Septentrionale and Amuaplye with their bye still to come. A win over Amuaplye could conceivably clinch the group for the Hapiloppians and punch their ticket for the knockout rounds. With that in mind, the Hapilopper National Football Team had a special intensity during their training over the next few days. They wanted to win this next match. They needed to win this match.

Terre Septentrionale beat Lavize

Los Martires, Malifornia, Free Republics - 4 days after matchday 3 fiasco against Hapilopper, Terre Septentrionale was back onto the field to play against Lavize. Once again the Los Martires Memorial Coliseum was sold out for the day with many fans from all nations in the group. Terre Septentrionale attacked with the ball at the 29th minute when Yannick Ksiezniakiewicz made a long pass to Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa who dribbled with the ball and made a cross to Zbigniew Zajaczkowski who shoots and score. Finally someone other than Cwierczakiewiczowa scored! And the score was 1-0. Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa shoots the ball on the net at the 33rd minute and Goalkeeper #1 deflected the ball out of bounds. It's a corner kick! Yannick Ksiezniakiewicz kicks the ball and it goes directly into the net without touching anyone, it's a goal by Ksiezniakiewicz on a corner kick and the score is 2-0 Nordiques! The score remains the same until the halftime.

Unlike last game against Hapilopper, Terre Septentrionale kept scoring and at the 58th minute, Pawel Wawrzynkiewicz dribbled with the ball and passed backward to Amelia Zalwowska who made a header pass to Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa who heads the ball right into the net! We can't play a game without a goal by Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa, and the score is 3-0 Septentrionaux. 3 minutes later, Player #8 made a cross to Player #10 who shoots and the ball goes past Zofia Kwietniewska. It's a goal for Lavize and the score is 3-1 Terre Septentrionale. Lavize attacked again at the 90+1 minute when Player #9 passes forward to Player #11 but Zdzislaw Brzezanczyk blocks the pass. The ball is loose and Slawomir Skrzeszewski gets it and passes to Élisabeth Normandin who dribbles with the ball and passes to Amelia Zalwowska who dribbles with the ball. She shoots and the ball is in! The final score is 4-1 Reprezentacja Nordycki. It feels good to see our favorite team winning after their disastrous game against Hapilopper.

With 4 games played, Terre Septentrionale is 2nd in the standings, tied with Amuaplye with 7 points but Amuaplye has one game in hand. Hapilopper is alone in 1st place with 12 points. On matchday 5, the Northmen will play against the Coalison while Amuaplye and Hapilopper will face each other. In a Septentrional point of view, it's better that Amuaplye loses so we have a chance to finish in 2nd place.

BAPTISM OF FIRE LXX: MATCHDAYS 3&4

Matchday 3: Amuaplye v. Lashnakia

It was an easy win for us. Mr. Estrada didn't have to do much, as the defense managed to take the ball before any chances to shoot, except for one time when one of their players manage to score a goal due to Estrada not being able to jump up and reach the ball due to his somewhat shorter stature at the 57th minute.

We scored 3 goals against them. Williamson scored all 3 goals, all of them in rapid succession in the 23rd, 28th, and 34th minutes. No red or yellow cards had to be handed out, as the game wasn't that tense, unlike the match against Terra Septentrionale.

Matchday 4: Amuaplye v. Nobody

Amuaplye didn't have a match today.

Chuikov stared ruefully at the copy of The Observer. He didn't even know that the bombings had happened, as there was nobody there to tell him. Mary Beck got the first word in, and the only thing it did was sow discord among his staff. There were only 2 or 3 members left of the original Cabinet, and the replacements had to go through the House of Commons first. It was going to take a lot of time before the Amuaplyean Government had its ducks in a row.

Then, there were 3 loud knocks. Sergei opened the door, only to be greeted by Nathan Bishop. Nathan walked into the room, and sat down in front of Chuikov's desk.

"Hello, Mr. Chuikov."

"Hello, Mr. Bishop."

"I want to tell you that we have found a suitable replacement for the late Christiansen. Allow me to introduce you to Mr. Irving Sherman." Nathan handed Sergei a folder. It contained an image of Mr. Sherman, several documents explaining his credentials thoroughly, and several transcripts of interviews done by the AIA in order to see his readiness for such a large task. After all, the position was nicknamed "Chuikov's Fall Man" by others.

Sergei nodded in approval. "He would work. I'll nominate him for the role by next week."

"OK, then." Bishop wanted to wait at least 2 weeks, especially since Mr. Christensen's burial was scheduled for next week in his native Reykjavik. "But, isn't it a bit early to do that?"

"It doesn't matter. I can't be soft on such issues anymore. I am in the crosshairs of every security analyst in the world. We are the laughingstock of the international community. People are dying out there, Mr. Bishop. And it's because Christiansen is dead."

"I understand. But isn't it a bit insensitive to announce a replacement when the body isn't even cold yet?"

"Not when people are dying, Mr. Bishop."

Meanwhile, in the basement of the Amuaplyean Embassy, where the Amuaplyean Men's Soccer Team is training...

"Look! We're up against the biggest team in the group today! This could make or break our time here! Do we want to leave here unsatisfied, a cherry on top of the international embarrassment sundae that is Amuaplye?" Coach Baker screamed out as the players were about ready to leave for the stadium.

"We need to try harder! We have won against 2 teams, and we have tied against one of the biggest in our group! We should be stronger here! No more yellow cards for you, Mr. Warner! We need to do something to retrain the only shred of credibility we have! Chuikov is supporting terrorists! There's a new bombing every other bloody day! There's people rioting in the streets! One of the most powerful men in Amuaplye blew his brains out in front of cameras! We're going to Hell in a handbasket, and this is our only chance to prove ourselves! Now, go! Go! GO!"

They all ran out of the door of the basement, too excited to notice where they going as they finally slowed down and walked their way to the stadium.

This was going to be a hard game to play in.
I'm a dude.
Also, call me Amuaplye, not Amuapyle, or Amu.
