Fechas de los Clásicos
Much to the dismay of the police, every year for the 8th match of the Lacrosse season, the 16 matches which the Seraxinbourghian Lacrosse Federation (SLF) have decided are the 16 biggest rivalries possible to make with each team only playing once in that season's Primera Categorica and then the SLF organise the groups for that season to contain 4 pairs of these rivalries which would take overall the shortest travel time for all of the matches. The sixteen rivalries that have been selected for this season's Fechas de los Clásicos are:
  • North Laborno Lacrosse v South Laborno Lions
  • East Laborno Nationals v West Laborno Monarchs
  • Union Stormwood v Stormwood Saints
  • River Valley Rapids v Lakewood Lakers
  • Ivygate Miners v Iceland Pirates
  • Calvernia Knight Riders v Clydebank Ramblers

2041 Darmeni Lacrosse League
Indoor Season | Outdoor Season

In the Indoor portion of the season, two new expansion sides made immediate impressions upon their opponents and the fans. New Istria Lions won 10 of their 18 matches, while Eau Claire LC won seven, posting impressive records when compared to expansion sides in other sports in Darmen. While Eau Claire missed out on the playoffs, the Lions surprised everyone by defeating both Brady City LC and Tim City LC in the North Division playoffs and making it into the DLL Indoor Finals in their first season.

In the South Division, Scott City LC posted a regular season record identical to that of the Lions (10-8), but were only good enough to finish third in a very strong division. Rogerton LC (15-3) and Chuckio LC (17-1) didn't pose much of a challenge to the squad from the capital, despite having far better regular season campaigns. The DLL Indoor Finals were dominated by the away team, as Scott City LC lost its home match but won both games on the road to win the series 2-1 and claim its first Indoor championship.

In the outdoor season, the standings look much the same as they did last season, with the exception of Scott City's poor performance (6-10) which saw them miss out on the playoffs. Liverpool LC took their place in the playoffs, but Johnho LC and Brady City were intent upon holding a rematch of the previous season's Championship game. A 17-5 demolition of Brady City occurred, each team adding a goal to the scoreline from the previous year's Championship, as Johnho LC won their second championship. All four playoff teams from the Outdoor season qualified to the IDLO Champions' Cup.

Out in Southampshire: Dragons fire national team head coach Timothy McGraw
Image

SOUTHAMPSHIRE—The Velish Lacrosse Federation hit the reset button in a major way earlier today, after 12 years on the job national team had coach, Timothy McGraw is out as VLF chairman, Rodger Ross makes sweeping changes to the national team. This comes after the Velish national team failed to reach the knockouts of the 30th World Lacrosse Championships in Cassadaigua, of course this after a run to the quarterfinals in WLC 29; many had expected the Velish to come forth and put on a tremendous effort in the 30th edition. Now, the process sis expected to begin for looking for a new head coach, the Velish federation has not given much of a hints as to who is to come in to take over the team.

In 12 years with the team and as the first head coach of the national team, McGraw lead the national team to a 14-1-18 record, including a leading the team to quarterfinals berths in WLC 25, 26 and 29; the past two seasons, under the McGraw leadership, the Dragons have went 8-1-9. Following the failure to qualify for the knockouts, the team announced the mutual resolution of McGraw's contract, a statement from the Velish federation, "the past twelve years under the leadership of Coach McGraw have been wonderful and we are thankful to his contributions to the sport of lacrosse. Velestria will be forever thankful, #thedragonsden."

There's no doubt that Mrs. McGraw will be picked up by the VLL, the VLL is looking to make the jump in the IDLO and finally go to the IDLO Champions Cup finals with one of their teams, yearly competitors like the Cumberland Kats or the Mount Paran Greens would love to add him to their roster, or rebuilding teams who need a reset (St. Teresa we're looking at you!) most-defiantly could use a McGraw reset. McGraw was forced to work with an aging defense for much of his tenure, it wasn't until WLC 29 when lacrosse was professionalized in Velestria, and defense has always been an issue with his teams. Goalies who were largely touted in domestic play simply couldn’t live up to their names, James Knight, the 36 year-old goalie who was between the pipes for WLC 30 wasn't even considered top-5 caliber a season ago. McGraw was also unfairly piled with injuries this time around as perhaps a contributing factor to a failed cycle, there was also the strange choice to run a double round-robin at the choice of the hosts, one McGraw came out against off on multiple occasions. However it wasn't the injuries that doomed the Velish team but a splotchy defense that's been checkered across all his tenures, of course for now McGraw had a scapegoat to hide behind.

A 10-7 loss and a listless performance against the tournament hosts doomed the McGraw leadership and brought the era ever closer to an end, it was announced three games later of the mutual agreement to part ways, leaving his record to end at 14-1-18, not a winning record surprisingly. Many players over the years have said that McGraw was definitely one of the best coaches they've worked with, hiring a new coach will be an important task for the VLF as they'll need to find someone as beloved as the longest-tenured national team lacrosse coach in Esportiva. Chairman, Rodger Ross related and spoke to media, "A big thanks to the contributions of Mr. McGraw over the years, he's been such a wonderful person to the organization and to the nation. A person who's remained dedicated to the league and improving everything surrounding it, it's going to take a long time to replace what McGraw did for us and for that we are thankful."

Continuing on, the chairman spoke on the state of the federation at the end of the game, speaking on expansion of the VLL as being a top goal for the next year, "we'd like to increase the number of teams in the VLL to 18 teams in the next few years, we're eyeing expansions into here in the capital and of course looking at adding a team to Calix to replace SC Calix." Speaking on the famed team of old, SC Calix from the semi-professional PDL of old, bringing the team back invigorated some supporters of the old club which included such Velish superstars such as Ardent Kashuti and others from the early years of the national team. He'd also go on to say, "the start for a new coach starts immediately, we're not going to slack off at all, it’s important that we find a definite leader who can guide us to help us take the next step."

Another goal, he said is to increase pay in the VLL, currently with players on average making ꝟ64,200 (N$54.5k) a season, the salary cap has been increased to N$1.25 million with minimum salaries now required to be at N$55k starting for the next season, speaking on it Ross said, "It’s an improvement for the sport of lacrosse and we're going to change an improve for the betterment of all lacrosse players."

McGraw in other news is going to find another job, no doubt in a few seasons, we've seen what he's been able to do, the North Hampton Evergreens have fired Alexi Barron and could be interested in bringing back their former director of player personnel. However, general manager, Arthur Carlson said "we are not committed to interviewing Mr. McGraw at this time."

Calix City Dawgs owner, Sharpie Killham who's owned the failed franchise for the past three seasons is also high on McGraw, and with the Dawgs looking much improved this could be a huge opportunity. With 5 openings in the league, there's no doubt McGraw finds a job in the next few weeks.

2042 Darmeni Lacrosse League
Indoor Season | Outdoor Season

The New Istria Lions continued their impressive ways indoors, improving on their record from last season and finishing top of the North Division. In the South Division, Scott City LC won all 18 of their games in the regular season, the first time that feat has ever been achieved. While the Lions fell at their first hurdle in the playoffs, Scott City continued its dominant performance from the regular season to win all three of its playoff matches, finishing the season with an undefeated 21-0 record and back-to-back indoor titles.

The outdoor season began with the Champions' Cup. With the exception of Brady City LC, three of the four Darmeni teams were eliminated following the Group Stage. Johnho LC in particular suffered an embarrassing 21-5 defeat to the Waverly Falcons of West Guiana. Brady City did manage an appearance in the Quarterfinals, but lost to Istria Thunder of Banija, 12-6, and bowed out of the tournament.

The regular season saw two teams separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Johnho and Scott City led the league with records of 13-3 and 12-4 respectively. Only two other teams finished with a record of .500 and better, those being Brady City (9-7) and Liverpool LC (8-8). It would be these four teams who would contest the playoffs, having already secured qualification to the next edition of the Champions' Cup.

Johnho and Liverpool played a close match that ended 15-12 in favor of the home team, Johnho. The other semifinal was a 24-6 blowout, Scott City defeating Brady City with ease. Johnho hosted the final, but with Scott City riding high with confidence gained from their semifinal victory, Johnho was unable to use that to their advantage. Scott City denied Johnho their threepeat as champions, instead claiming their first outdoor victory and winning both the indoor and outdoor segments of the season.

Cosumar Lacrosse League -- Season VIII (1016)

The CLL is one of the newest and most exciting professional sport leagues in Cosumar. Thanks to sustained success in the World Lacrosse Championships, Cosumarites have rallied around the sport and an underground supporters' culture has emerged. Though the CLL's attendance and TV ratings are still dwarfed by association and gridiron football, its surging niche popularity and high quality of play have made Cosumar something of an international leader for the sport.

In the eighth CLL season since its major reformation, 28 teams will duke it out to be one of the 12 teams to make the playoffs after a single round-robin of 27 games. The best regular season team takes home a trophy called the Silver Shield in addition to home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The ultimate prize, however, that only one will take home, is the Sheppard Trophy - named after the greatest player in Cosumarite lacrosse history, Tracy Sheppard.

Past Winners:
Season I: Olask Empire
Season II: Crawford Lions
Season III: Altamirano Apes
Season IV: Centus Journeymen
Season V: Ramusok Rhinos
Season VI: Klyde Guardians
Season VII: Mallox Mayhem
Season VIII: _____ ???

Last season, defending champions Klyde Guardians added another trophy by taking the Silver Shield, but they failed to win the league's first double when it came to the Sheppard Trophy Playoffs. National team defensive stalwart Katz Brunner and her Mallox Mayhem swooped in and took it instead.

In 1016 (below), the defending playoff champions once again won the ensuing regular season. Mallox Mayhem this time edging the Ramusok Rhinos, also 22-5, on the strength of their head-to-head win. Nexus Magens LC were the overachievers of the regular season, racking up 21 wins - including upsets over the Maygem and Rhinos themsevlves. On the other hand, expected top-seed contenders Klyde Guardians struggled with injuries and only limped into the 8th spot. But they're getting healthy going into the playoffs and could be dangerous.

CLL Sheppard Trophy Playoffs - First Round

Oh man... so much for that. The vaunted Guardians are beaten at the first hurdle, giving the Attumac region its first playoff victory in any sport. Any by a photo-finish at that! It's infectious, as two of the three other higher seeds also fall in the wild card round. This isn't unusual though - the true heavyweights had byes and don't enter until the next round.

8v9
Klyde Guardians 13–14 Attumac Kokopelli

5v12
Dvinko Hellions 6–6 (7-8 OT) Samotath Wyverns

7v10
Cassandra Coroners 9–10 Dawchire Doom

6v11
Kalloroda Cardinals 9–8 Crawford Lions

CLL Sheppard Trophy Playoffs - Second Round

Three of the four top-ranked teams with byes advance, the lone exception being the plucky Dawchire Doom playing legendary defense to slow the charge of Hazel Cathclove and the Rhinos' prolific offense.

1v9
Mallox Mayhem 12–9 Attumac Kokopelli

4v12
Altamirano Apes 14–9 Samotath Wyverns

2v10
Ramusok Rhinos 7–8 Dawchire Doom

3v6
Nexus Magens LC 10–5 Kalloroda Cardinals

CLL Sheppard Trophy Playoffs - Semifinal

The Dawchire cinderella story comes to a harsh end at the hands of Nexus Magens LC, who lack a star player but continue to excel as an extremely well-oiled collective. Their top three finish in the regular season is looking like it wasn't a fluke at all. The primetime Apes-Mayhem match-up is great though. Altamirano showed why they're still one of the marquee franchises in the CLL despite being a smaller market. Mallox's stadium was filled half with green and red - thousands of Apes' fans made the voyage for this one. The players on the field delivered too, coming back from behind 6-3 with a 5-1 scoring run in the final frame. Katz Brunner was apoplectic. After this type of performance, the Apes will definitely be the favorites to the lift the Sheppard Trophy in the final...

1v4
Mallox Mayhem 7–8 Altamirano Apes

3v10
Nexus Magens LC 12–3 Dawchire Doom

CLL SHEPPARD TROPHY FINAL

...And if they do, they'll become the first multiple-time champions, having previously won Season III and lost in the Season V final. The Apes are a confident, experienced and balanced team, but they face an opponent in Nexus Magens LC that ranked higher than them in both offensive and defensive performance in the regular season. All odds suggest this will be a close one.

3v4
Nexus Magens LC 9–11 Altamirano Apes

And that it was! Tekker Barbosa led the way for the Apes with 4 goals and 2 assists. Shortly after the match, 36-year-old goalkeeper Jack Schmidt, an Apes and Cosumar national team legend as well, announced that he would be retiring. Way to ride off into the sunset, Jackie Boy. Congratulations to the City of Altamirano and indeed the entirety of Sindo Fief on becoming the first franchise to lift the Sheppard Trophy twice. The ALTAMIRANO APES are the 1016 CLL Champions.
