A Strange World: Civilization's Dawn [Revival] [IC]

Civilization's Dawn

The sun rises on a new world- a world not like that you may know. Shattered by a catastrophic impact not long after the extinction of the dinosaurs, Earth is not as it should be. This impact, a star falling to earth, changed not only the shape of the world, but also her content; this star bore strange light and strange crystals, warping and altering the planet where humanity slowly arose.

A thousand generations. Ten thousand generations? Longer, perhaps. Uncounted years had spun onwards since the fall of the star that was the herald of a different world, years unmarked by any man or beast, for when that celestial body plummeted to embrace the bosom of Mother Earth man had not even conceived of his first thought or his lungs filled with his first breath.

And yet, the echoes of that cosmic event still swept the world, their symphony molding the forefathers of mankind. Today he was not even aware of ought which might have been different, a path he might have taken, but it was one different nonetheless. Knowing or ignorant, mankind now looks out at the horizon marked by a thousand luminescent stars and stands to take his own place in the world- greater even than the fell and mystical creatures that roam the lands of Earth, his mind a burning thing so much more potent than even the fiercest of beasts and creeping things.

Anthropologists might call this a dreaming time, a time before men sang the first songs or wrote the first stories- when lives were so simple they left no mark on the tapestry of the ages, stamped no impact into the fabric of the planet to come. But to the men and women who lived such ages, who ate and breathed and hoped for what might be, these ages are only too real. A time of discovery, and innovation, and joy, and death.

The time of Civilization's Dawn.

Sundered by leagues, languages, and alien customs, nine small bands of mankind look out to see that dawn. Some are awakened by the singing and cries of strange beasts and birds, others by the crashing of the waves, others still by nothing other than the silence of the wind rising over sunlit mountains and plains. Their traditions are different, their tools, their cultures, but they are united by one thing- a bright future full of uncertainty and danger, but also possibilities that are limitless.

Near the roaring cliffs of the sea, the people of the Aederfolk make their homes upon the coastal plains. Here and there can be seen great herds of Tarpan- grazing underneath the warm sun- short, slow, they make for a primary food source for the tribe. Upon the white cliffs and rocky outcroppings beneath the spray, can be seen the green rocks and white flakes of strange interest, which many have started to collect and musingly study their swirling colors. Here and there- wild grasses grow, seemingly edible, yet who's seed is too small to be a sole source of diet, but rather, supplementary.

Well within the continent, those unknowing of the ocean spray make their living within the dense woods. The Eliphas Clan - as they are called, shelter underneath the decidious trees and dense shrubbery of their forest. Small herds of white, wild goats shelter underneath the foliage, hiding from the clan, who regularly feed upon their red meat- wearing the shaggy white hides for warmth in the cool winters. Yet, in the dark, ritch earth- has been found many small green gems which mystify the Eliphas, largely ignoring the much more musty browns and green that often found around it. Within these woods- many varieties of flora make their presence known. Small clusters of black, sweet berries stain the lips and teeth of the Eliphites, living simply by daytime, and sheltering from the howls of wolves by night.

Upon the banks of their frigid mother-stream, The silver river tribe huddles together amid the cool summers and cold winters of their home. Feasting on wild grasses, much of their day is spent harvesting from local valleys the precious foodsource. Throughout the valleys they call home, herds of caribu can be spotted drinking from the mother-stream, while at the same time, kicking up clouds of black dust, from what appears to be a chalky, black material.

Living upon the hot chaparrals near their bay, The Men of Aten shelter under the rare tree under the hot sun, and the hot winds of the south. Spending their days hunting both the small Onager hiding between the thick, thorny shrubs- or fighting the waves for what small, silvery fish can be found beneath the water's surface, they make out a decent living on meat, and foraging alone. In the warm waters of the bay - sit seemingly hundreds of treasures- locked away within hard, stony shells - yet the beauty of their stone is unmatched. And too, under the dusty earth, sit shining green-brown rocks, largely ignored by the Aten, for now, atleast.

In the far, far north- amid the massive trees and bitter cold, live the Pentakuk. A tribe well clad in the hides of the local fauna, these hunters live out their lives in the short, mild summers, and the much harder, colder winters along the frigid river's waters, and ruggid ocean's shore. Clutching to the fires kept both day and night, the people chew on highly valued herbs and roots, which seemingly abate their hunger, and warm their blood. Relying on both scavenging the wild red berries and hunting elusive creatures in their magnificent river-burrows, they spend nigh all their time scraping by, simply finding enough to eat. Yet- farther out, far from the ashen-grey sand of the sound, are spotted great, dark beasts- which cause the very waves to tremble.

In the warm forested valleys of the Wah Del-Aton, her people live a rough, hardy life. Hunting wild boars, spear of flint, versus spear of bone. Some game however- is of easier stock, as herds of migrating deer, while far less deady, are always skiddish, and quick creatures. Amid the mossy rocks and shallow caves of the surrounding mountains, grey-brown rocks of seemingly softer nature than the surrounding stone can be flaked from the surrounding walls, their true nature, yet unknown - much, as the howling, which ventures down into the valleys with the wind, in the darkest of nights.

Sitting upon their lonely mountain amid a see of plains, The Korthuun live among an evergreen garden which perpetually carpets their home. Amid the rocky pine groves, graze a variety of sheep- in every hue of black to white. Terrorized by black cats, which stalk the night with their moonlight eyes, and teeth more powerful than the strongest warrior, the mountain rewards their hardy clinging against nature's odds with the strangest of gemstones- glimmering among the many hundreds of caves which worm throughout- deep, dark homes for predator and prey alike. Although very difficult to free from the grasps of stone- they are seemingly unbreakable, and could be of incredible value to both man and spirit alike.

In the Temperate forests known to the Al-Kahabar as "home", lies a bounty of the earth- but less of life. Amid the groves of oak and birch trees, lay a great number of earthen-hue rock, of deep browns and dark pitch blacks, littering the green with massive boulders, giants, above both beast and man. Stalking between these imposing shapes, are great beasts, with a grizzly maw, and a knack to climb the tallest tree, and take down the largest of men. With little wildlife to find, they largely subsist upon the grace of a tree- bearing small, soft, green fruit- with large black seeds and an almost inedible core.

High above the many trees in all directions, live the Ciaráin, climbing between the cedar trees and thistle that litter their home. With a diet largely variety of mushrooms, they seek out a well-fed existence upon foraging, supplemented too by a variety of edible grasses- which grow in the valleys around their rugged home. Yet too are there bounties above and below, as high upon the dangerous cliffs which mark the tallest of the range's mountains, grow plants of nigh magical properties- said by the forefathers to heal the sick, and warm the soul. Such may be counted as myths entirely- if not for a small pouch of the herb, which still is carried with them throughout their travels- not enough to fully work it's magic - but enough to inspire hope.

Along the wide plains of the land of the land of the rising sun, the people of the Ulm clan eat well - sharing the bounties of the plains with their siblings- the lions. Digging the earth for edible tubers, and scouring the fields for edible grass, they have a balanced diet of both meat and starch. Following the buffalo as they migrate across the land, they have always been on the move, and it was said- so shall they always be. For, even though they might have all they could ask for- using every part of the buffalo, and with good health, so long as they fend off their fellow predators, their earth is barren, with little mineral or gemstone to speak of, leaving them to trade or move, if they wish to acquire them.

In the humid river delta - The Sea-Blessed truely live up to their moniker. Finding home among the many tendrils of the river's mouth, they find shelter beneath the dense cedar groves, and catch their fill at the water's edge. One of the few tribes to discover herbs of medicine in their lands, a wild strain of berry who's taste is worse than rotten fish, they use this to great effect, helping to stave off the various diseases known to gather in the region's many stagnant pools. They live happy lives, out below the stars and the rustling leaves, using pine nettles as beds, and listening to the waves of the not-so distant shore. But still... a fire rages in some of their minds: what bounties lay beyond the coasts, where the ocean meets the sky, and where the clouds disappear into the horizon - the great, watery frontier.

The Tribe consisted of five members, led by the son of their last chief, Tafari. He was one of the pair of great thinkers of the tribe, the other was Meru. She was just a year younger than the tribal chief, but worked closely with him on devising new methods for the tribe to make of the world. The tribe's lone warrior, Llyrin, was jointly responsible for the tribe's defense with the youngest member of the tribe, Astaro. The two of them were born to the same mother and Astaro had only recently come of age herself. While Llyrin hunted and protected the tribe, he would also assist in gathering the wild grasses with the gatherer and worker of the tribe, Sylri. Astaro had a fascination with everything outside of the village and when she wasn't helping in a hunt or gathering wild grasses she was quite happy to wander the area around the tribe's home.

This year, instead of moving sites Tafari had come up with a new plan. "We are going to stay here in one spot for some time. We have access to food and water here, and there are not many dangers in the area. Mother's river is slow here and her mountains surround and protect us here. We can find happiness in this place. Sylri, go and find a means to make us a shelter, until then we will stay alongside the mother river."

The tribe did not disagree, these lands were safe and their present location gave them easy access to the grasses and caribou for food as well as the river for water. The harsh bitterness of winter would come as it always did, but the mountains gave some protection even from that. To them they lived in paradise and it was time to establish the tribe with a more permanent home. After all, why would they wander from a place so bountiful with food and water.

They moved about the area by day, initially putting work into finding materials for the shelter. It wasn't elaborate, but it provided a place for them to get out of the few rainstorms they received and keep out of the sun during the summer months. For the majority of the year, the harvesting of Edible grasses occupied their time. However, the black dust which rose from some areas of the valley after the caribou passed through was intriguing to Tafari and he collected some samples of the chalky material to discover uses the tribe could make from it.

Llyrin was a decent hunter, though he knew the large caribou would be difficult to bring down and went to Meru. He knew a spear could puncture the beast, but they typically ran before he could get close enough and thus he had to resort to ambushing them and throwing the spear from afar. He asked Meru to come up with a better way to throw spears at the caribou from further away so he could more efficiently hunt them. In the meantime, Llyrin employed his sister Meru to help track and ambush Caribou. While she wasn't the strongest member of the tribe, she was woodswise, knowing how to best find the prey and how to best ambush them. Between the two of them, they felt confident that they could provide a steady supply of meat, hides, and bone for the tribe.

Following the completion of the shelter, relations began between several of the tribe's membership. Meru and Tafari, the wise people of the tribe laid together many nights and often talked about the natural world around them. Meanwhile, Llyrin and Sylri spent time together after long days of working in the wild grasses. Soon they also began spending nights with one another or sneaking off during the day when the others were resting after the morning's activities. For now, Meru was left out of this activity, having just come of age herself. She only really had one option within the group as her brother and the chief were the only men remaining. If she wanted a child of her own, she would have to some day approach the chief, or perhaps find a wanderer in the lands around them and bring them to the tribe.

Tafari - Learns what he can of the black chalky material (Research coal resource), tries for child with Meru
Sylri - Constructing shelter near the mother river, Tries for child with Llyrin
Llyrin - Hunts for Caribou, tries for child with Sylri
Meru - Concocting a method by which to better hunt the Caribou(Researching Atlatl/Spearthrower), tries for child with Tafari
Astaro - Collecting Edible Grasses, aids Llyrin in finding Caribou to hunt

Tafari - Scholar (Tribal Chief) - Age - 19 - Male
Sylri - Worker - Age - 18 - Female

Year of the Fallen Star
Banks of the Wine-Dark Sea

The underbrush cracked dryly as the two hunters stepped forward, and the heavyset tree-deer looked up in alarm. Rising with a muttered oath, Jarn let loose with his spear with a vicious motion that jerked his arm in its socket, even as Vladimir did likewise. The first spear went wide as the lithe animal turned to flee, but the second took it heavily in the flank. With a startled bugle call the dun mottled green-gray beast fled at speed and the two pelt-wearing tribemen padded after it.

Jarn's steps through the twisted humid forest landscape were sure and swift - the tangled woodlands and clear meadows surrounding the Pale River were known to the leader of the Sea-Blessed as well as his own flesh and blood. But the tree-deer was swifter still, and in minutes its thrashing and crashing receded into the distance, though the hunters sped onward in pursuit. That did not overly perturb the two men though; now they ran a bit slower, heads bent down to track the spoor and the snapped foliage which marked the beast's passage.

Time passed, but as the sun sank towards the sea-horizon, the two men finally came upon their quarry - fallen with pain shock and blood loss, it could run no further. With a muttered prayer to the Ancestors, Jarn's swarthy companion dispatched the beast with a thrust of his shortspear under the ribs and into the heart. Its eyes fluttered, and then closed forever - and the two men set about the work carrying the heavy forest-dweller back to the impromptu encampment of the Blessed.

Within the trunk of a mighty cedar, the mother-trees, the Sea-Blessed had made their home. Still growing, as old as the hills, the Mother had sustained the Blessed since they had been cast upon on the shores by the Great Storm. In the dark hollow within her still-living trunk, as wide as ten men's arms could span, they slept at night with their fire without the entrance. And when the light was good and the breezes low, those of nimble character would climb in her branches to seek for game or spy out the land about the Mother.

It was a simple life, but one of joy. The years wheeled much as they had always done, but the Blessed were never unchanged. The rhythm and ceaseless energy of the sea was in their blood, and bones, and always they were driven towards more than they had possessed in the past.

Food the tribe feasted upon when the heavy deer was gutted and roasted above the communal fire, hot flesh sizzling above simple bark roasting-pans which caught the fat for cooking and the myriad uses of the simple purposes of the tribe.

"As we ran, the Father gave me a vision." spoke Jarn quietly to his bonded, Maria, as the two sat crosslegged by the fire. Her deep blue eyes were curious, though she did not answer with words, too busy with the feats of table and hunger.

"My feet turned many times in the hut on stones of deepest copper, sky-drops of the sunset fallen to earth. Some were softer than other stones, and I knew not why, but I thought to myself that their softness is strength in our hands. With clever heft, the knowledge of my fathers' fathers, we shape flint to our needs. It is brittle, and unyielding, save by cunning - and no man may shape it back into stone once it is broken. But this soft stone, it may be unlike others. A foreboding is in my heart, that I should not ignore what my dream told me as I pursued the deer."

Maria sat in silence, before leaning in and resting her head on the kin-leader's shoulder.

"Follow what is in your heart, my love. The Father speaks in many ways, and the thrum of my veins rushed with the flash-beat of fear mixed with excitement when you spoke. Tomorrow, find the stars of the sunset, and seek what was given."

Jarn (Scholar): Investigates methods of melting the sunset-stone, copper, using the simple fire
Maria (Scholar): Dries leftover meat of the hunt on stones near the sea, to hold it against future need
Vladimir (Warrior): Hunts game in the forests of the Garth to feed the tribe
Vittoria (Worker): Gathers fallen timbers of the mighty cedar to feed the fires, and dry for future use
Sylvia (Scout): Gathers blossom-berries, to make medicinal poultices
Quite the unofficial fellow. Former P2TM Mentor specializing in faction and nation RPs, as well as RPGs. Always happy to help.

The Eliphas Clan
First Light

Dawn broke through the leaves of the woodland that the Eliphas called home, and the clan stirred slowly from their night's rest. Except of course for Jass, who'd stood watch from midnight to dawn, spear in hand, in case the howling of the wolves came closer to the clan's resting ground, a clearing in the forest near small stream. As weary Jass retired for sleep during the day, he engaged in a quick flirtatious conversation with Mabe. The two may be on different sides of the night, but their courtship was known to all, often being found in each others arms by Hillin when he returned from his hunts to the encampment in the dusk. Mabe, since her courtship with Jass had begun, had became the most fervent of the tribe, invoking the name of the Great Spirit in hopes that she and her mate would be blessed with a child.

As the rest of the tribe stirred, the fire was stoked and meat was cooked. As the scents of cooking goat wafted into the air, the appetites of the clan were stoked and were partially sated by some stored blackberries. As the meat cooked over the fire, the clan deliberated. This land was rich yet dangerous, with prey and predator in equal number. The goats that roamed this land were vast in number, in herds large enough to feed both man and wolf. The wolves that competed with the tribe were definitely posed a threat, but they feared the fire the two hunters carried and if they were not large in number they could be chased away from their kills. The berries that grew in abundance in the forests surrounding their camp were always a welcome treat, and made lean times less dreary with their sweet flavor. The green stones that were abundant in the soil of the forest were a welcome splash of color, even if they were useless for anything other than ornamentation. By the time the meat was cooked, the discussion was over, the decision made - the Eliphas would stay, as long as possible.

As morning breakfast was eaten and the die cast, the two industrious women of the tribe, Mala and Etha, rose to speak.

"If we are to live here longer than a year," started Mala, youngest of the two women, but the more industrious by far, "we need proper living space. Every night, me and Etha fear that the wolves will descend upon us as we sleep."

"And?" responded Jass, gruffly. "Hillin and I have chased wolves away from their kills before, with fire and spear. As long as we have the flame, they dare not approach us."

"And what if the fire were extinguished by rain or lack of fuel? We would be defenseless. You and Hillin may be strong, but you are only two against a pack of wolves. You may kill a few, but they are numerous while our number can be counted on a single hand. You would be overwhelmed and we would be as goats." Mala responded.

To this, Jass grumbled a few words, but otherwise begrudgingly signaled his approval when the the rest of the clan voiced their approval of the plan. Mala would devote her time and the hides Hillin brought from his kills to the construction of a dwelling for the clan, someplace better than sleeping in the open air. Etha would assist, but in the down time in between kills, she collected more of the berries that grew in great abundance in the forest.

When the tribe was finished with their discussion of major plans, Mabe pulled aside Etha and Hillin. She requested that the two, when bringing back meat and berries, collect enough to set aside a portion for her culinary experiment. She had noticed a blend of berry and dried meat scraps that had been accidentally made when reusing the clan's storage bags had lasted long before fouling, and she wished to pursue this way of cooking to see if she could create a food that would last longer than simple dried meat, and be more nutritious too. Though the two initially had doubts, they agreed after some coaxing. If the clan was lucky, next year there would be a new mouth to feed and they were only at a subsistence level currently.

Actions/Roles:
Jass, Warrior, 20 M guards the clan's resting place, tries for baby with Mabe.
Hillin, Warrior, 18 M heads out to hunt the wild goats.
Mala, Worker, 19 F starts fashioning a hide hut for the tribe.
Etha, Worker, 22 F assists Mala, gathers blackberries in free time.
Mabe, Scholar, 23 F experiments with making pemmican (Researching rudimentary food preservation), tries for baby with Jass.

Spring arrives

Image

Name: Innugati
Age: 16
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 135
Genetics: Heavy Neanderthal genetic admixture.
Human.

It is finally spring again, and the dark, frigid forests the Pentakuk call home slowly begin to thaw. Despite the western breeze marking the warm to come - the ground would still be covered with snow, the tribe, still clinging to their fires. They had sought shelter beneath a few great trees- and worked busy with hands numb. The eldest among them, a man named Aput, (meaning Snow), worked with a simple flint blade - ripping open a beaver, and cleaning their skin as best he could. While the man concentrates on his task - a much younger girl, Innugati (Meaning "Friend"), walks past him, barely being noticed in his peripheral vision. She carries a bundle of dry sticks - a luxury during times like these - and adds them to the fire, having dampened and shrank in the time of her absence. Kakortok, (Meaning, "Cheerful") Stood up to embrace her sister, kissing her greasy black locks of hair upon her head. "Sister! You were gone for far too long - what held you all day long?"

Out, far from their fire - two bodies walk side-by-side, their fur-wrapped feet crunching in the snow. They stalk beneath every rock, inside every rock - looking for the sprout of a most beautiful plant. Anji? Asked the young man, following his older mate as they walked. "How do you know if you have found the fireberry bush?" "I've told you once, and I will tell you once more Qimmiq, it is not hard. They will sprout the color red - unlike any others seen on earth!" "But Anjiiii!" The boy moaned. "It has been so long - and my legs have grown tired. Can we not wait to look for them in a moment?" The woman rolled her eyes, but relented, finding a snowless patch of ground where the sun had worked it's holy ways - and there she lay down her hide - of an animal kind not seen in this region, a hand-down of her mother. She motioned the boy to lay with her, preserving heat together. They would rest, she relented, for no more than a moment.

Aput - 18 (M) Warrior - Hunts for beaver
Innugati - 16 (F) Worker - Collects berries
Qimmiq - 14 (M) Worker - Gathers medical Herbs
Kakortok - 17 (F) Scout - Explores upstream - to the North-East
Anjij - 19 (F) Scholar - Begins researching pemmican

Aput tries for a baby with - Innugati
Anjij tries for baby with - Qimmiq

Al-Kahabar Tribe
New Day

Light came through the shroud of leaves in branches in the forest the Al-Kahabar called home. The tribesmen and women woke up slowly, yawning and stretching. They'd had a good night's rest, except for Aral, who'd been on guard duty so bears wouldn't steal their food and resources. They were cold and shivering because it was breezy, and they had no clothes. They were settled in a little clearing with a mud carve out behind them, where they slept. There was no protection on the door, so they had a guard. There were trees everywhere, and little deposits of coal and iron.
"Get the fire going Ti'fula," K'duhabar said, as he walked up to Arula.
"Hi," she said, kissing him on the cheek.
It was known that she and K'duhabar wished to have a baby, mainly to grow the tribes numbers. "Where's Genzei?" K'duhabar asked. "He went looking for iron to study," Aral told him. "Says we can make better hunting tools out of it." "I sure hope so," said K'duhabar. "We need better weapons to hunt those bears."

Ti'Fiula got the fire going, but Genzei still wasn't back. "Where is that man?" K'duhabar wondered. The fire was only for heat, as their only food at the moment was pears. Everyone was munching on juicy pears when Genzei suddenly came storming through with a handful of iron. "What are you doing?" K'duhabar asked. Genzei just grunted, carrying the iron into the mud cutout to study it.

After breakfast, Aral kept complaining about not having any meat. "Then go look for other creatures besides the bears!" K'duhabar yelled at him, angry. Aral stalked off with his spear. Ti'Fula walked up to K'duhabar saying she needed to get more coal and wood with the fire, and off she went.

At the nighttime campfire, Arula suggested an idea. "Maybe we should fortify our shelter with wood," she said. "Sounds good idea," Genzei responded, which was surprising since he didn't talk much. Once everyone agreed to the plan. Arula and Ti'Fula started finding wood and sticking it into the ground.

Right before bed, Genzei talked with K'duhabar about the iron he was studying. "It amazing discovery," he said. "When I done we hunt bear." "Okay, you keep on working with that," K'duhabar replied. Then, the tribe settled in for bed.
K'duhabar, 20 M - Tribe Leader, Warrior Action: Tries for baby with Arula.
Aral, 18 M - Warrior Action: Looks for other meat types besides bear.
Genzei, 21 M - Scholar Action: Studies making iron weapons. Specifically spears.
Arula, 18 F - Worker Action: Finds more pears.
Ti'Fiula, 19 F - Worker Action: Gathers coal and wood.

The Ciaráin

It has only been a few years since the Ciaráin came to this green mountain range. Their clan only consisting of five members and are being led by one of the eldest, Eirnín the son of the last chieftain who is the source of the clan knowledge. The next is Dáire, the clan's sole warrior who has proved herself to be a capable warrior. Just like her mother before her and has taken to protect the clan from threats. Then comes Ruari, one of the workers that strive endlessly to gather food and other tasks for the clan. Meibhín, a young woman with a strong amount of wanderlust that often leaves when she can to explore the land. Finally, there is Saraid, the youngest and one of the workers of the clan. They have chosen to stay and make this land their home. The new homeland of the Ciaráin and they called it Dunshannon.

This place has been different than the last places the Ciaráin have been to. First off, there is little to none game in these woods. Luckily, the Ciaráin have found that this land contains edible mushrooms and even edible grass that makes up the clan's diet. Meibhín has been eager to explore and when he got Eirnín's permission, she headed south to see what lies there. The rest stayed in Dunshannon, Eirnín was curious about the white mineral that they found in the mountains. He hopes to find some kind of use for it and has started to find a use. Meanwhile, Dáire with no game to hunt, she has taken to guarding the camp and even though they have not spotted anyone other than themselves in this land. She is on alert and practices in her spare time. Ruari and Saraid were busy doing important tasks, Ruari has taken up to collect the edible mushrooms that dot the landscape for food. Saraid was busy cutting down trees that would be used to make dwellings for the clan.

Eirnín is hopeful for the future of the Ciaráin since coming to his land and prays that the clan will thrive here.

Eirnín - 20(M) Scholar, leader - research uses for silver
Dáire - 20-(F) Warrior - guards the camp
Ruari - 19(M) Worker - collects mushrooms for food
Meibhín - 19(F) Scout - explores the south
Saraid - 18(F) Worker - cuts down trees for wood

Admag,
Homeland of De Wah Del-Aton

There's a valley, where the forest made the sounds of lively birds and songs of spring being made across the region. The De Wah Del-Aton called this home Admag, named after the ancestor founder of this land prior to the Starfall and the Echo of Silence that nearly killed the tribe. Ever since the tribe called smell trees was when they hunted the hogs as they were better to hunt than the deer and they provide good meat more than them.

Many of them became more creative over the ages, some may even say smarter. This rise of intelligence came from the women as they were the first to use their voice for song, the blood to use as paint of their hands. They were the first to craft the first means of identity, curiosity beyond their little woodland paradise. There was two of them, they formed the leadership and the brains of the tribe. There was also a warrior who was their hunter, one who was the strongest in their tribe and could carry the hogs without any help. Then there was the scout, one who always traveled the farthest and had the keenest eyes. He wanted to see more of the world and see where the ancient stories of their people led him to. He always wanted to see the Starfall and the place of Echo, where the Vibration of Ormos nearly cremated the world.

Then there was the youngest of them, a woman who toiled the ground and worship the Titanus Metallica, the Titans of Sound who govern the Echos of Creation and their Vibrations. It was such that they knew every spirit and every being who carried a piece of an Echo that both Ormos and the Muses Sirona caused. For the Folk of Admag, this came in everything that they did and see.

While they couldn't communicate with the Metallica and the Spirits of Sound but they could feel their blessings that they bring.

And the blessings they shall use.

The Men of Aten
The Bay of Aten

Salty waves lapped across the sandy shores of the Bay of Aten, a soft breeze passing along the flatlands beyond. Not too far from the shoreline, pillars of smoke rose from a group of campfires, slowly dissipating into the clear blue sky.

“Hail, Eliza!”
A man approached the campfires from further inland, calling out to a woman who stood over one of them. She was experimenting with the orange rocks that dotted the landscape of Aten’s domain, which shined in the light, standing out from their surroundings.
“Hail, Elric. Best of luck on your hunt today.” Eliza replied but did not look up, clearly intent on the rock above the flame. Elric laughed, and turned back the way he came, spear in hand.
“Thank you, Eliza. May Aten bless your work.”
Off into the distance he walked, soon disappearing from sight as Eliza continued her work.

Heka wandered the deserts of the Cunei Desert. Great gusts of wind blew across the desert sands blinding him, he took refuge by the Azura River the lifeblood of this wasteland. He was stranded from his people the Khemeti in the most devastating desert storm he had seen in his entire life. He knew not rather they had survived, but the pain of being torn from them weighed heavily in his heart. Still, he needed to rest and meditate.

He took the cool waters of the Azura in his hands and washed the dust from his solemn face. His dark brown skin glowed in the sunlight. He would walk away from the waters to avoid crocodiles, and meditate seeking the wisdom of the sun god Asep. It was times like this that strength and faith in the gods could help pull man through the trials that beset him. He emptied his mind and took in the glory of the sun, allowing it's power to course through his veins.

He muttered prayers to the sun god to bless him. He asked him to give him strength. He would do this for as long as it took, Heka Son of the Desert Sands.

Action: Meditate take in the power of the sun, to strengthen himself (develop School of Sunstrength if possible)

The Year's Turning
Year One

The Silver river tribe do not go hungry this year, having ample amounts of both meat and grain to fill their bellies. Upon the mother river, a rudimentary shelter of branches, mud, and caribou hides begins to be raised. Although better than nothing - there are many holes, letting in both rain and chill to the people inside. (Quality: 1) Unfortunately, neither Tafari, nor Meru can find progress in their research. But much more fortunately - is the birth of a child from Meru and Tafari - who look down upon a sickly baby boy - wrapped in caribou's hide, to keep away the chill. They prey for him to recover, and live through his first years alive.

The sea people are certainly blessed - as the river delta is deeming with life this year. Through an excellent hunting season- the people gain a sustenance of food, keeping all happy and healthy. Even more amazingly - it seems as though Jarn has happened upon a discovery - by placing the sunset-stone within the hottest part of the fire, it begins to melt into a golden water, shimmering, bubbling - and when it cools to ash? It stays, hard, in the shape of the pool it became. Discovered: Campfire smelting. As for material gains... Sylvia finds enough blossom berries to aid one brother or sister through bad spirits, while Vittoria gathers a significant number of branches. +1 Medical Herbs, +2 Timber.

The Eliphas clan is blessed by the warm winds of summer early, filling all those in the woods of their home with a sense of life and rejuvenation. They live through the year with adequate food, finding proper meals in both blackberries and wild goat meat. Mala, through crafty use of a branch frame and spare hides, manages to construct a hut for her family to live in - although having many holes, it is better than nothing. (Quality: 1). Incredibly fortunately for the future of the tribe - is a food-blend of Mabe's that seemingly keeps meat and berries for far longer than they should normally last. Pemmican, as it is refered to, could potentially keep surplus food from previous years for just a bit longer - perhaps saving them from starvation. (Requires source of both plant-based and animal-based food, & 1 person to produce. Allows surplus food to carry over into next turn.)

The Pentakuk have a harsh winter, with the freezing air traveling deep into the bones, and souls, of every member. Perhaps a shelter, of any kind, may have mitigated the potential for illness. Despite their struggles, the pentakuk do manage to gather enough of both meat and berries to supply them with a small surplus, if nothing else. (+ 1 Medical herbs). No child graces the tribe - fortunate for all of them - as one born in such a season of despair could only call into their frail bones poor spirits. While Kakortok explores upstream, learning new things of the region - Anjij is left at her wits end - unable to come up with the food preservatives she so desperately searches for. What Kakortok finds, however, is very valuable to the tribe - for upstream lies: (Boreal Forest, River | Deer, Fox, Pines)

Unfortunate for most groups - it seems the Al-Kahabar tribe has benefited - as some unknown force has caused the much local wildlife to migrate to the North, freeing them from the threat of bears. (For now). Aral manages to find enough meat, in addition to Arula's pears, to provide sustenance for his family. Small animals: such as squirrel and rabbits - provide a limited source of meat for them. All the while: Ti'Fiula gathers a small amount of both the black chalk and wood, not enough to do much with either, but a decent amount to do small crafts, or study. (+ .5 Coal, + .5 Wood). Genzei's studies are... fruitless, to say the least. With no ability to use the iron rocks any different than normal rocks. Perhaps, he should find a way to mold the stone, before he makes a spear from them. Arula and K'duhabar have graced the earth with a healthy baby girl - unfortunately leaving Arula weak, and unable to do hard work the following year without complications to her health.

The Ciaráin are blessed with the warm winds of summer as it would seem - keeping them safe from illness, even in the face of food shortages, with less than enough mushrooms to provide for them all. Eirnín finds no use for the silver rock, no matter how hard he tries, save for the fact they happen to be very shiny, and very pretty. However, much more useful - as down the mountains and into the plains to the south - Meibhín wanders upon a prarie, full of life. Through the grasses - many of whom seem edible - roam herds of deer, enough to feed a society of wolves, which stalk the region at night. Most incredibly - Saraid - in her rest between hard work gathering branches (+2 wood) she seems to have gotten pregnant, the other members of the tribe having to guess which among them - Eirnín or Ruari - is the father. She gives birth easy, to a healthy baby boy, who cries throughout the night, thank the ancestors.

De Wah Del-Aton struggle to find food, having only one of them assigned to hunting, their bellies growning lean and their bodies growing bony. Despire this: there is decent work done, as Nam collects a substantial amount of branches (+2 wood), and Umak brings news of the lands to the West. Mountainous, it is- with rockrabbits hiding in the thistle and grasses which cover the mountainside. Fruits, of a variety of bushes, which cling to the mountainside against the winds, make for a decent foodsource, while Lichen covers much of the exposed stone, being able to be collected in significant quantities, should they find a purpose for it.

The Men of Aten live by peacefully, through a combination of easy meat and fish, gaining enough protein to survive. Nothing comes of either of the scholar's studies, although knowledge of the lands to the East does bear fruitful. Along the dry plains, small bunches of purple, seedy fruit grow on long vines, while wild antelope roam, and Lynxes stalk between the blades of grass, seemingly taking down the deer-like beasts in groups, being no match for the larger creatures on their own. Eliza misses her moon-cycle early in the year, and by the late summer - she gives birth to a happy, healthy baby girl, with Elric named as her father.

The Aederfolk experience a rapid of winter storms, which bring up unseasonable illnesses within the malnourished clan. One of their members, Gwynn, falls ill, while the others' work is worstened. Gwin must be taken care of as best as possible, given rest or lite work - or have her health get worse. Cigfa, though with a hungry belly, manages to find enough debris and branches to build a rudimentary shelter, not nearly saving them from the ravages of the ocean storms from the north. (Quality: 1) As for the wise-people's knowledge... none is discovered for the year that passes.

Far out into the desert sands Heka, a hermit by means wholly not his own, struggles to survive off of what little foods he can find to sustain himself. With only the sun as his companion, he often slips in-and-out of consciousness, from the heat, dehydration, or perhaps, even his own will. He takes this time to reflect upon the world around him, the sky, and it's great lord, which sends it's rays of light and warmth upon the sands, scorching them until the moon arises. Unfortunately, he does not discover it's truths: still mystified by it's ever watchful gaze.

This is the account of the Year. Another Year now begins.
"When Adam delved and Eve span, who was then the gentleman?"

The Men of Aten
The Bay of Aten

The cries of a healthy infant pierced the peaceful silence of the bay, originating from the campsite of the Men of Aten. They gathered without shelter, as the dry land of Aten’s domain possessed little in the way of cold or harsh weather, each tribesman tending to their work as the infant crawled around near its mother.
The tribe chief Elric was busy skinning his latest kill, a large onager that had been lingering near the tribe for the past few moons. A hand suddenly cupped his shoulder from behind, with a voice accompanying it.
“Hail, Elric.” The smooth voice of Jasnah, resident fisherman and worker, murmured a greeting as she took a seat beside Elric. He chuckled, looking up from his kill.
“Hail, Jasnah. You startled me.”
They shared a smile, and Jasnah’s gaze drifted over to the crying infant nearby, now busily being tended to by Eliza, her mother. Both sat by Eliza’s experimenting fire, next to which sat a small supply of those mysterious orange rocks.
“She’s beautiful isn’t she? A blessing of Aten...” Jasnah whispered, her hand coming to rest on Elric’s leg.
“Indeed,” Elric replied, glancing at Jasnah. “Perhaps Aten will bless our tribe yet more with growth in the coming years...”
A knowing look was shared between the two of them, and a moment later the campgrounds was short two people, with only an infant and two scholars to tend to it.

Adolin (Scout, M, 18) - Explore into an adjacent region along the coast
Isabel (Scholar, F, 17) - Research Smoking for Food Preservation

Eliphas Clan

The early summer wind flowing through the forest that the Eliphas Clan calls home invigorated all. Both man and beast were refreshed quickly, as was the flora. The forest breathed with life, and the goat herds grew in kind. Kids followed their mothers' ranging in search of fruit and edible greenery, both of which were plentiful now. This early summer was cruel, though. Mabe and Jass had tried to consummate their union in the eyes of the Great Spirit, yet the clan was blessed with no new members. Tears were shed, comfort given, but they would have to try again this year.

Hillin had spent the last year hunting, and though he was usually successful in his hunts, he often saw that by the time he had retrieved his spear from a goat, the rest of the herd had long since scattered to the wind. He brought this up with Mabe, during the clan's nightly dinner feast.

"Perhaps," She began, "you could carry more than one spear? You are surely strong enough to carry plenty."
"A good thought, though we would need more spears. Even then, without something to stabilize the spear, I would simply be throwing into the herd and hoping for the best. You are our wise woman, I understand the Great Spirit has not blessed you in the past year, but can you think of something new?" Hillin responded.
"Perhaps I could work on both this year - lighter spears and some way to stabilize them. It will take time though, my mind is elsewhere."

Later in the year, Hillin and Etha announced their courtship to the clan. They had struck up a friendship when hunting and gathering as kindred spirits in the wilds, away from home. This friendship had slowly blossomed into romance as they spent more time together before splitting off to hunt and gather, until they spent a day away from the clan together, simply enjoying each others company. Now, the Great Spirit had two parties entreating it for help. Only time would tell if it would favor one party, both, or neither.

Jass, Warrior, 21 M guards the clan's resting place.
Hillin, Warrior, 19 M heads out to hunt the wild goats.
Mala, Worker, 20 F makes pemmican.
Etha, Worker, 23 F gathers Blackberries for food and pemmican.
Mabe, Scholar, 24 F begins working on a spear-thrower (Researching Atl-Atls and Darts).

Jass and Mabe try for a baby.
Hillin and Etha try for a baby.

Heka drank from the cool waters of the River Azura, taking his fill. How could he be dehydrated by a river, that served as the lifeblood of this region? He gathered bountiful amounts of papyrus and made a simple fire to cook them. The food sustained him. He looked at the sun above curious above all else. I will learn your secrets he thought. He then sat once more on a rock overlooking the river and gathered the energy of the sun.

Isolation was splendid to him, and he knew that he held the power of the sun within him. He was patient, he was determined, and he would succeed in his quest. To learn the awe-inspiring power of the sun was a noble and great goal indeed, one that would unlock many doors. Who knows perhaps he would learn secrets that would aid him on his quest of enlightenment.

Action: Just continue researching Sunstrength.

Al-Kahabar Tribe

Dawning Day

The cries of the new infant, Kiala, ring through the camp. Arula calms her down, while singing her a song. Ti'Fula was sorting wood an coal, and Aral was hanging the meat to dry. "Thank god that all the bears are gone! Especially with Kiala just being born," K'duhabar says happily, as his tribe is progressing greatly. The smell of the new rabbit and squirrel meat over the fire smelled great. The pears were more juicy than ever. The only two bad things were that Arula was too tired to do any work, and that Genzei's research hadn't really gotten anywhere. It was evening, and everyone was sitting around the campfire, when Genzei suddenly burst through some shrubbery. "I found good thing!" he says loudly, his face expressing great excitement. "What is it?" K'duhabar asks him. "You now we cold right? Yes? Yes? Well if I study I make cover of hide to make us warm!" "Hmm, that's not a bad idea, continue your research." K'duhabar told him. Aral and Ti'Fula were now in a relationship, hoping to have a child to grow the tribe's numbers. All of a sudden, Aral coughed and spat a worm that was in his pear out of his mouth. "That's disgusting," he said, utterly disgusted.
"We'll have to figure out how to get rid of those," K'duhabar said.

Year of the Midnight Moon
Banks of the Wine-Dark Sea

The chill sea breezes of spring whipped the two Blessed as they walked the rocky shores north of the rivermouth, inspecting the flimsy racks that held the drying meat from the year's hunt. Maria stretched out one of her hands and took up the desiccated venison, and though it was firm to the touch, the moment she began bending and grinding the material, it crumbled into only so much powdery flesh. At her side her husband chewed contemplatively on one of the chunks of prepared sustenance, and he nodded as he ate.

"You were right. The salt of our Father's bosom adds a certain something to the flavor, and the passage of the months has little touched the integrity of the food. There is wisdom in holding ought against the failed hunt and the faltered harvest."

A smile touched the emerald-eyed woman's lips, and she inclined her head gracefully.

"Wisdom is given to all, but I am pleased that your thoughts march with my own nonetheless. If we put more effort into these matters, I hope we may have proof against those vagaries."

Working together the two Sea-Blessed gathered in the dried meat, touched with a thin layer of salt from the breezes blown from surf and spray. There was much to rejoice over - the strange gold-orange liquid stone offers what the Father revealed, a path to many great things. And no disaster has befallen the chosen of the Ancestors yet, the progeny of a thousand tribes and ten hundred generations, for which only prayer may be offered. Nonetheless, the needs of labor never ceased, and so the five kindred bent their backs once more to the labor of the wilds.

Jarn (Scholar) begins using dirt and sand to make a primitive cast for shaping the molten sunset-stone into primitive hand-axes, much like the flint tools the Sea-Blessed currently use
Maria (Scholar) uses the fat of the kills, tubers of the forest, and the crumbled dried salt-meat to devise the vaunted pemmican of their forebearers
Vladimir (Warrior) seeks after the fat fish of the lazy river pools, spear in hand, for food
Vittoria (Worker) laboriously shapes the timbers with flint and skill into a small door and barricade to bar the entrance of the Mother Tree, home of her kin
Sylvia (Scout) ranges far and wide throughout the Garth, gathering what edible plants and roots she knows of, and seeing if there is ought else the tribe missed in their first assessment which might prove useful

The Ciaráin

The last year for the Ciaráin had been mixed. Eirnín failed to find any use for the white mineral that is found in these mountains and was disappointed in himself. He thought for sure that this mineral had some kind of use. Food has been a problem as the edible mushrooms are not enough to feed the clan. However, they had been some good. Meibhín found some animals to the south that she said we could hunt for food. Dáire volunteered to hunt these beasts in order to help the clan survive. Traveling southward while Meibhín took off for the east. After Eirnín denied that the boy was his, it was Ruari who admitted he was the father. For he and Saraid had grown close without telling the clan of this and choose to keep it a secret. Regardless on why they choose to do this, there was a small ceremony between the lovers and they were officially joined. Eirnín and Dáire have been starting to be seen together whenever the two are free. A budding relationship is starting with those two. Time will tell if this pairing will last and for how long.

Eirnín - 21(M) Scholar, Leader - researched a stone tool that can cut down trees
Dáire - 21-(F) Warrior - hunts deer in the south
Ruari - 20(M) Worker - works to construct a wooden hut for the clan
Meibhín - 20(F) Scout - explores the east
Saraid - 19(F) Worker - cares for Anraoi and collects mushrooms for food
Anraoi - 1(M) Infant - Being a baby

Year 2, Silver River Tribe

The cries of the child echoed off the mountains, the sickly boy was fighting for survival with the help of his mother. The boy was the son of Tafari and Meru, both of them were considered to be the thinking people of the tribe, which left the tribe wanting for labor at times, but no one would abandon any of them for how they were made before the Mother Mountains. With the cries of a child in the camp, Llyrin and Astaro spent more time away on Caribou hunts, which they still asked for better hunting equipment to more readily kill the Caribou without having to plan an ambush for each kill. The clan itself was clinging to the single hut, though it was not very effective in the cold winters of their chosen home. To help with this, Sylri worked with the bones and hides remaining from the hunts to provide a more reinforced home for them while she wasn't collecting the edible grasses for the tribe.

Tafari did what he could with his child whenever possible, but the tribe could not afford for both of their wise people to be tied up with one child. He continued the work on creating a method for launching spears and improving the efficiency of the hunters. Meru may not have had a breakthrough the year before, but perhaps a second mind taking over would be able to see something the other missed.

The younger Astaro began spending time talking with Tafari when he was working on creating a spear thrower of sorts. While not actually helping, she was there for her own purposes. She wanted to get permission to leave the tribe for a year or more to explore the areas around them. Exchanges between the two were rarely about this however as they became friends over time. Eventually, Tafari relented and promised that soon she could leave for some time, but had to return soon afterwards. Just long enough to explore the areas down river from their camp. The permission was all Astaro wanted to hear, after her time with Tafari that day she was so excited she ran to tell Llyrin the news only to catch him enjoying his free time with Sylri as they had become accustomed to do. Thoroughly embarassed, Astaro went to Meru instead and told her the good news in Llyrin's place. She seemed happy for Astaro and the two spent much of the rest of that afternoon talking and caring for the infant.

Tafari - Picks up work on the Atlatl for improved hunting capabilities of his people.
Sylri - Uses bones and Hides to improve the Shelter, collects Edible Grasses
Llyrin - Hunts Caribou, Tries for Child with Sylri
Meru - Tends to her sickly child for the most part. She did whatever she could to find ways to keep him alive long enough to thrive on his own.
Astaro - Hunts Caribou with Llyrin
Child of Meru and Tafari - Being an infant

Spring arrives again

Image

Name: Kakortok
Age: 18
Height: 4'10"
Weight: 130
Genetics: Heavy Neanderthal genetic admixture.
Human.

They had weathered the worsts of storms yet again. Though bruised, burned by the cold winds - they somehow survived. It was clear to them then: that more had to be done to keep them fed and sheltered- lest they fall prey to the ills of yester year. Although normally sheltering in the most basic of accommodations, the abundant pine trees, and the solid hides of the territories upstream proved promising for a good shelter... and Qimmiq began to devise of a new home for his people. It was a decent walk away - many, many nights - and they would need to bring hot coals from their fires to weather the journey... but it was well worth it. To ensure their fellow member's safety, it was decided Aput, Innugati, and Kakortok would go - better to have ones watch your back, than not. They left with woeful hearts, and the best of hopes. A hope for safety - a hope for meat. A hope for the spirits of the land to favor them, unlike the previous year. With nothing more than old hides upon their backs and feet, spears in their hands, and warm hearts - they departed. Who knew what would happen unto them? They could only hope...

But back along the coastline where Qimmiw and Anjij made their stay - they were none less busy than ever. Anjij, ever crafty, alongside her daily chores of collecting firewood - braided the soft, stringy bark of the forest... thinking. "Heh! Do you miss your sister's hair so much you braid the grass instead?" Smartly asked the young boy, smirking at the older woman. She rolled her eyes, and continued her work. Perhaps if... it was done right - a certain shape could be made. And with that... who knows?

Aput - 18 (M) Warrior - Hunts for deer to the north-west
Innugati - 16 (F) Worker - Collects wood to the north-west
Qimmiq - 14 (M) Worker - Constructs a shelter of both hide and branch collected
Kakortok - 17 (F) Scout - Hunts for deer to the north-west
Anjij - 19 (F) Scholar - Starts to research: complex clothes

Aput tries for a baby with - Innugati, and Kakortok
Anjij tries for baby with - Qimmiq

Apophis | Year 2

Apophis wandered.

He did not totally recall his origins; all he knew was that he had been here for days, seemingly with nothing to show for it. Waking today, he felt as if there was a distinct change in his feelings - as if he had the palpable sensation of freedom, will, and the capacity for change. He looked over the lake that he called home, and it seemed as if for the first time, the lake called him back.

His home was not a foreboding one, not in the slightest. It was exceptionally palatable. At the shores of a lake, he had ready access to water, and the lake teemed with life, both fish and otters. The most dangerous wildlife in the area were foxes, which posed little threat to even a teen like Apophis. And, though he had not yet figured out any efficient way to harvest the fish of the lake, this particular lake was host to a most precious bounty.

Strawberries.

They grew on vines, making them easily replenishable and even more trivial to harvest. There were no complicated brambles or tree branches to negotiate. Apophis hypothesised, in his new-found state of mind, that it was this that had so far made him apathetic. He reasoned that it seemed altogether possible for him to virtually live off strawberries, and the occasional lucky theft of a fish from the otters that lived in the area. But this was, to a man who had named himself the Speaker from Far Away, not enough. It was not worth speaking of.

And so he took stock of his surroundings, but with a new eye. As delicious as strawberries were, he knew that he would need something to survive the seasons of his twilight years. If he had spent harsher months here, it would have been in subsistence, likely not as survivable for an elderly man as it was for a young teen. Apophis' great epiphany was to realise that he had a future. Or, at least, he wanted to. His attention turned to the vines, or runners, themselves. They offered an interesting opportunity that, it seemed, nothing else in his world did. Vines could be manipulated, could be transformed, could be used to create. And so he considered what those vines could be used for.

Certainly, he could try and catch foxes, or otters, but that would be no good for his short-term predicament. Though it would be many generations before the reasons why were understood, such spindly carnivorous animals did not seem appealing to him as a source of food. That left fish. If he could devise a way to catch fish efficiently, it would save him some substantial amount of time in his everyday life, and it would give him a totally consistent source of food for not just survival, but to thrive. This, he resolved, would be his primary short-term goal.

He took some time to understand the workings of the lake. He could see in its clear waters, occasionally, the way in which the otters worked to capture their prey. Otters are active hunters, and do not stalk fish, but either lunge at them from ambush or chase them down. Apophis came to understand that the movements of fish were not complex - not compared to the otters who seemed to make decisions as to what they were willing to do to secure a kill, and to abandon or commit to pursuit. One could easily predict what a fish was going to do. If one startled a fish, it would flee in the other direction. Conversely, Apophis realised, the fish were attracted to those things that reminded them of what they ate. He saw them drawn to the insects that came down by the lake-shore, for instance. When the insect disturbed the water's surface, the fish would wait for an opportune moment, and then impulsively leap to that the insect. Though it was a theory that, Apophis knew, did not entirely explain the difference between the inner lives of the fish and the otter, it was sufficient for inspiration.

He noted that fish seemed to hide away in the rocks and in fallen vegetation. When they did so, they were often safe, becoming no longer visible, concealed from the outside world. But if an otter were to give chase, having already identified it as prey, then the seeming safety of such rocks and vegetation became a death-trap. Apophis considered putting these two observations together - that fish could be baited to respond in predictable ways, and that those ways could lead it directly into a trap it could not escape from.

Action: To attempt to invent fish-traps, made from barren strawberry vines and baited with strawberries.
