Are you afraid of the dark?

Postby Rojava Free State » Mon Jul 01, 2019 7:37 pm

About two minutes ago, after finishing a call with a friend of mine in the basement, I had to switch off all the lights down there before coming back upstairs. After getting the last light turned off, I proceeded to skeddaddle up the steps as fast as I could and slam the door behind me with a bang. Since I was a child, I've been afraid of the dark. I remember when I was a kid, I would wake up in the middle of the night and be terrified of going out into the hallway to get to the restroom, and I would just lay in bed till I fell back asleep or till morning came. To this day I will not sleep in a completely dark room and desire to always keep a light on of some sort. it doesn't help that I'm an avid fan of horror stories, especially creepypastas, and despite being basically an agnostic, I'm still scared of the paranormal.

So now I'm turning the floor over to you NSers. Is anyone else here afraid of the dark and if you are, so you any stories to tell about your phobia? Is there any defined age where a fear of darkness should be lost or is this a fear that can be lifelong? Let me know below
Rojava Free State wrote:Listen yall. I'm only gonna say it once but I want you to remember it. This ain't a world fit for good men. It seems like you gotta be monstrous just to make it. Gotta have a little bit of darkness within you just to survive. You gotta stoop low everyday it seems like. Stoop all the way down to the devil in these times. And then one day you look in the mirror and you realize that you ain't you anymore. You're just another monster, and thanks to your actions, someone else will eventually become as warped and twisted as you. Never forget that the best of us are just the best of a bad lot. Being at the top of a pile of feces doesn't make you anything but shit like the rest. Never forget that.

I don't like the dark either, and I don't know why. My fear used to be much worse, but at least sometimes I can handle turning the lights off.

Back then: Always ran upstairs as fast as I could the moment I switched off the lights, 'cause monsters in the dark would try to eat me (in my imagination).

Now: Always stealthily sneaking down there in the dark to steal something from the fridge.
OOC: This nation does not represent my political views, I don't know how to politic.

Nope, I actually quite like the dark.

Unless I'm running up the stairs, then I need to instinctively run from the monsters that live in the dark.

I greatly prefer maybe a nightlight or a reading light on. That, or if your bedroom has a bathroom, that the bathroom light is on and the door is opened a smidge.

Never been afraid of the dark and in fact I embrace the dark. I would think once one reaches that age of 5 or so, their fear of the dark should almost be nonexistent.
But then again, I'm the kind of person that laughs at horror films.

When I was younger I was very much afraid of the dark, but not so much anymore. I wouldn't want to spend the night in the woods behind my house, mind you, but there's plenty of reasons for that beyond a lack of photons.

As a child, I was quite scared of the dark. I remember being in the toilet once and the toilet lights just switched off and left me in literal pitch darkness. I screamed at the top of my lungs for a full two minutes before anybody bothered to come help me.

Now, I can’t handle pitch darkness, unless I know the place well. I’m not scared if there’s a little light around, but I still prefer being with someone else.

PS. It’s called nyctophobia.

When I was little I would always run up stairs as fast as I could when I was in a dark room and I hated being in the dark when the power went out. I usually would sleep with a night light on. I remember at one point in time I would sleep with Christmas lights in my room, Idk how I got any sleep. I remember at night would see scary things in the dark in my room when I was trying to sleep but it was just my imagination. Now I am not really bothered by the dark and I hate having light in my room when I am trying to sleep. I can not fall asleep with light on. Not even light from a nearby electronic in my room.
Call me TSS for short.
I'm surprised the name of my nation was not already taken. Lucky me.

I'm not afraid of the dark; I'm afraid of what might be hiding within it.

I'm pretty afraid of the dark, except (Oddly enough), in the woods, despite being a Blair Witch Project Fan.

Nah. Used to be. My mother locked my room for the night without the light on once, and that went a long way towards curing me of my fear. Now I prefer the darkness. Gives me more room to think.

I'm not afraid of the dark which is good because I quite enjoy sensory deprivation tanks. I imagine they'd be less enjoyable if I was afraid of the dark.
