Darmen has a multi-party political system. Political parties have been present in the Darmeni political process since the introduction of popular elections in 1754. Political parties must register with the Electoral Commission in order to contest elections.

United Left (Legonian: Urente Lefts; Spanish: Izquierda Unida) is a political coalition founded in 2040, which combines elements of the Darmeni left-wing to ensure greater electoral success.

The social democratic faction, represented by the National Labor Party, is by far the largest grouping within the coalition, representing almost 70% of total membership.

History
The United Left was founded in 2040 after the Green Party left the United Left's predecessor, the Coalition of the Left. Recently, another member, the Progressive Socialist Party, also left to join with the Greens to form the Progressive Green Party. Following the 2041 elections, the United Left received the most votes, with 37.2% support. However, it had only the second most seats with 59. As no party won a majority of seats, the United Left joined with the center-right Movement for a New Darmen to form a governing coalition.

The Republican Party (Legonian: Republikansch Partti; Spanish: Partido Republicano) is a major political party in Darmen. It is the successor to the Movement for a New Darmen, formed following the Liberal Conservative Party's abandonment of that coalition. The party's leader, Tor Tong Lee, has been almost singly instrumental in establishing the party and directing its political platform.

History
The Republican Party was founded in early 2045 after the preceding Movement for a New Darmen split over the issue of Darmeni membership in the Common Rushmori Community. The Movement's right-wing, made up primarily of Christian Democrats and Civic Nationalists formed the basis for the Republican Party, while a majority of the Liberal Conservatives joined the Liberal Party.

Voter Base
The party's voter base can be roughly categorized into two parts: conservative leaning Christians and supporters of Tor Tong Lee who might otherwise be apolitical.

Structure
Currently, the party is almost exclusively controlled by its chairman, Tor Tong Lee. Lee is assisted by a five member secretariat which focuses on day to day operations. There also exist a number of local party organizations, which direct the party's activities at the municipal level.

Ideology and Policy
At the most basic level, the Republican Party's ideology can be summed up in the "Three Principles" and "Three C Conservatism." The Three Principles were established by Tor Tong Lee in his '"What is a Darmeni" speech made at the opening meeting of the Darmeni Constitutional Convention in 2037. The Three Principles are: generosity, humility and loyalty; and they serve as Darmen's official motto. Three C Conservatism, represents Lee's brand of so-called "conscious compassionate conservatism." Republicans employing Three C Conservatism seek to identify problems rooted in the past and rectify them while remaining true to Darmen's Christian morals and traditions. Taken together, the Three Principles and Three C Conservatism are often viewed as constituting the political ideology of "Leeism".

Liberal Party (Legonian: Liralacha Partti; Spanish: Partido Liberal) is a major political party in Darmen, founded in 2045 by a merger of the National Civil Liberal Democratic Union (NCLDU), the Pan-Rushmori Party and a faction of the Liberal Conservative Party that supported Joshua Rademacher. Rademacher became the party's first leader.

History
The Liberal Party was officially formed on January 2, 2045 at a gathering of members of the NCLDU, Pan-Rushmori Party and Joshua Rademacher's faction of Liberal Conservatives. A public announcement was made prior to the official foundation by Rademacher and NCLDU leader Rowland McNab on December 26, 2044. The primary reason cited for the merger was growing frustration at President Tor Tong Lee's hesitancy to join the Common Rushmori Community.

Ideology
The party's main platform position is for Darmeni membership in the Common Rushmori Community. The party supports a liberalization of Darmeni society and business. The party has in recent times pushed for income and corporate tax rates to be slashed and vehemently opposes tariffs of any kind. Local government reform is also one of its top priorities.
