Successful Few, Unfortunate Masses

As the global economy has continued to advance, a small group of individuals, governments, and corporations have found themselves with an unprecedented level of wealth and power. Massive corporations like ‘Handel, Lutz, & Roechmeyer' and Wuxing push the governments of developing nations to carry out their agendas. Nations who have benefited greatly from the global economic stability such as Yahel and Santa Rosa find themselves with ever-increasing tax bases, and ambitions to match. For many, the wealthiest individuals on the planet are seen as role models, and treated like celebrities.

Citizens all across the globe from all backgrounds have taken advantage of low trade fees and tried their hand at the market-- some seeing success, but a large majority are only able to watch as their wealth is lost in an instant. In some cases, entire nations fear their economies being brought to ruin as their citizens choose to invest in more stable, developed markets. This group of economic ‘losers’ grow ever more resentful towards the fortunate economic elite, and feel betrayed by the visions of prosperity which the elite had promised them.

Civil Disagreements

As uncertainty and fear takes hold of the populace of many nations, the political processes within democratic and semi-democratic societies have begun to be overtaken by a wave of polarization, with individuals flocking to parties often driven by strong-man leadership, and advocating for radical ideas. Far-left and far-right movements alike continue to gain traction within historically moderate governments, with some movements gaining enough popularity to gain seats in government.

Where compromise was once found within many parliaments and congresses, parties often refuse to cooperate in order to please their increasingly radicalized voter bases. Many political parties work tirelessly to slander the name of their rivals, and politicians who opted to set aside their values in exchange for profit via crony capitalism in the years of prosperity fear their practices being revealed to the public.

Power in Numbers

Less politically stable states find themselves at odds with secretive, non-state movements and activist groups who advocate for any number of changes in policy. Nations with governments who have historically opted to suppress political dissidence within their borders may find that these groups are particularly prevalent within their territory, as the populace see no other options. Groups such as the North Star Resistance and the Texas Liberation Army find themselves working both alongside and against other activist groups and resistance movements.

Many young men and women looking to make quick money in a more reliable fashion than investing opt to begin working as part of groups like the Somali Slurpers and the Coca Caravaneers: criminal syndicates who use predatorial recruitment methods to enlist the impoverished masses to bolster their numbers. In the most extreme cases, desperate individuals turn to violent extremist groups and mafias in order to provide security for themselves in their family.

Global wealth inequality hits all-time high

      Image
      APSIA Committee on Social Equality

On Wednesday, the APSIA Committee on Social Equality released a special report which finds that global wealth distribution is at a historical high. The report, titled 'Inequality and Wealth Distribution in the 1990s', details the current global economic situation, along with a summarization of the past five years and how it has effected the global economy. The report states that the richest 1% of the global population controls over 43% of the world's wealth, and likely will only continue to increase. The report also details what effects this concentration of wealth in the past decade has had on the world, largely focusing on how it has negatively impacted those in the middle and lower classes. The report concludes with a call to action for governments and groups nationwide to mend the issue of wealth inequality.

The report has shown to be quite controversial, with many political scientists and economists pointing out that poverty has continued to decrease in most regions of the world. Others have criticized the report for being 'preachy', particularly within it's closing pages which put out a call for action to governments and activists. On the other hand, many social activist groups have praised the report, with some like the Algerian left-wing activist group the 'People's Movement' going as far as to call the report 'the gospel of the impoverished'. Regardless of the validity of the report, it has no doubt sparked a new global conversation on the topic of wealth inequality.

      NNN Monthly: June Recap

      June 24th, 1995

As we enter the last weeks of June, it is important to keep track of what is going on in the country. Luckily for you, we at NNN are here to do just that for you.
      United Federal Party?
On May 30, the UCP and Federal Party announced that they would be merging their parties into one unified coalition, titled the United Federal Party. The party is said to have a unified plan for the Confederation, which includes reforming it into a federation and restructuring the Parliament and Head of States. They state that they will reform the parliament into an upper and lower house, with a Prime Minister in charge of the legislative branch. In addition, there will be a executive branch, headed by a president. This seems to take inspiration from the Francophile plan. Many have said that the UCP seems to be unusually flexible, although whether this is merely a pragmatic move or a move for the entire party remains to be seen. The UFP has announced that it intends to get the amendments passed through Parliament. If it makes it through the Parliament, then it will go up for public voting. With the popularity of the UFP in the polls, it is not hard to imagine that the country may choose this path, although it remains to be seen.
      Elections Delayed
Olivier Dupuy, the Minster of Security, announced that elections would be delayed to December 30th. This is due to the lack of security at the polling stations. Dupuy cited concerns about partisanship and an aggravated electoral base that could cause riots and even deaths at polling stations if not properly protected. Both the DCP and Francophiles loudly denounced this action, with one Francophile politician stating,
This is merely a blatant attempt to buy time for the UCP to rig the elections!

      Man killed by Francophile protesters
Xavier Adnet, husband and father of two, was killed in a protest against the election delays. He was killed by a knife wound to the head, authorities said, and was pronounced dead within half an hour. Due to this, the popularity of the Francophile party dropped dramatically in the polls.

CIUDAD BELDAD, SANTA ROSA — The Supreme Court has announced the first wave of sentences for former several military dictatorship officials following high profile trials beginning two months back. The following have been accused of high treason and their sentences are as follows well:

  • Gen. Paul Oppenheimer (former president) — imprisonment for life
  • Adm. Yves Fiore (former vice president) — imprisonment for life
  • Gen. Higini Giese (former chief of staff) — capital punishment
  • Dir. Dario Regenbogen (former director of National Police) — capital punishment
  • Gen. Pablo Quintana — capital punishment
  • A.C.M. Fabrice Aguado — capital punishment
  • Gen. Stefano Blanc — capital punishment
  • Gen. Ovidio Alberto — capital punishment
  • Gen. Valero Lamberta — capital punishment
  • Maj. Gen. Jefte Bonturi — imprisonment for life
Most of the accused face execution, with notable exceptions for Gen. Oppenheimer and Adm. Fiore due to their advanced age and medical conditions.

Critics have accused the Court of rushing the trials, though all Justices voted unanimously and stated that "evidence was obvious and overwhelming."

'Uruguayan' separatist movement gains traction in Santa Rosa
      Image
Protesters in Montevideo wave the Cisplata state flag

Civilians of the Santa Rosan (and formerly Alberi) state of Cisplata have taken to the streets of Montevideo since Thursday to protest Santa Rosan control of Cisplata and show support for the formation of a new, independent Cisplata. The majority of the protesters belong to a political party and activist group known as the 'Movimiento Nacional de Uruguayos', or MNU-- although many of the protesters have not explicitly show support for the group. The protests are scheduled to continue until June 27th, when the MNU hopes the Santa Rosan government will respond to calls for an independence referendum.

"Uruguayans have been tossed back and forth for too long", said Patrizio Cortez, chairman of the MNU. "Between colonial powers of Vitolia and Alicia and the neo-colonial powers of Grandi Alberi and Santa Rosa, we have been and continue to be a puppet of the powers that be. It is time that we take the reins of government and forge a new path for our people".

There has not yet been a response to the protests by the Santa Rosan government, and police forces in Montevideo have thus far kept the protests peaceful.

      Sheng Shicai declared missing
      Image
Outskirts of Chengu, Songjiang-- last known location of Sheng

The government of the Persian Sultanate has declared their Sultan Sheng Shicai missing, and has placed an $825,000 reward for any citizen who finds the Sultan.

The Sultanate first lost track of the Sultan following a state visit to Songjiang, which was intended to be a three day trip. Following one month of absence, however, the Persian government has reportedly entered a state of panic. The last known location of Shicai is in Chengdu, Songjiang, where he had met with various state leaders, and even had pictures taken. Many Persian state-run newspapers have reported that the Sultan typically travels alone, and that he likely has simply taken a detour and will return to Persia soon.

      Rise of the Militarist?

      Image

The Nation of Songjiang has been swept in the recent months by an unprecedented amount of support for military buildup as well as idolization of the military and its personnel.
While Songjiang has always considered its military personnel as heroes and service in the military as honorable recently this has grown to the point that a recent poll found that 64% of those polled felt that the Songjiang military was too small, and 28% felt that mandatory service should be implemented for males over 17 years old.
Another fringe group within the government that has quickly begun gaining popularity is the Rykovian Militarist Party who beleave that voting and government positions should be reserved only to those who have served the nation in some capacity in its armed forces, law enforcement, emergency services or medical services. This party has even managed to gain voters among those who have never served showing the stupidity of this movement.
We can only hope that this militarist trend ends and that the people of Songjiang come to there collective senses. Militarism always leads to expansionism ans Songjiang still maintains claims over many of the regions around it to include Tibet, Mongolia, regions of the Persians lands claimed as west Songjiang this can only lead to conflict.

North Africa, Middle East hit record temperatures
      Image
      Casablanca, Algiers

Meteorological reporting stations in Algiers, Yahel, and Salamut have reported record breaking temperatures for June, with the month seeing an average temperature of 39 degrees Celsius (102 Fahrenheit) in Algiers, and 37 degrees Celsius (98 Fahrenheit) in Salamut. The Israel region of Yahel has also seen an average temperature of 32 Celsius (89 Fahrenheit). The rise in temperature has been compounded by low precipitation in the previous winter months, leaving many communities such as in Casablanca (pictured right) to ration water supplies.

The Salamutian government has advised all those in regions seeing extreme temperatures to stay out of direct sunlight, and to avoid rigorous outdoor work if at all possible. Meteorologists predict that the same pattern of extreme heat will continue into July and August, and that farms (particularly near Tunis and the Nile Delta) may be effected severely.

Post Annual Report

Sparked Interests: Desk of Graul Ekeenis

July 1, 1995

Relations have been steadily on the rise between us and the nation of Albion. Recent reports show that postcolonial resentment in areas such as the UAE sector has all but become extinct. Envoys are to be sent to the Isles to garner good relations between Yahel and Albion. Their current government structure closely resembles that of Songjiangs which has proven to harmonize with Yahel's quite nicely. With the council laying off European isolation, it seems that this is the perfect time to gain a new friend on the continent.

New treatment facilities are being constructed by our friends Vitola. This coupled with domestic investments into treatment facilities should quell the toxic runoff into our waters. As an extra measure, ships will be sent to test to water monthly to monitor and record effects. An operation will be created to treat the currently dirty waters in an attempt to save the sea life and prevent a total collapse of the Yaheli fishing industry. Charitable organizations will be sought out in an attempt to achieve the same goal.

The inauguration of Gregi Beniakov into the position of Chancellor has been smooth. The fact that the population was this accepting of a non-arabic chancellor shows that they have become accustomed to diversity. This proves that operation ED should be ready to launch soon.
In order to execute the plan we must ████████████████████████████████████████████████ and
once the criteria have been met we can move onto ████████████████████ and finally we shall dispose of ████████████.

For a more in-depth report, file for form 3B-N7 and wait 3-6 business days for approval.

Tolucan Police raid former cartel base • Transgender skater slaughtered in Denver • Homelessman found in a McDonald's bathroom, permanently

Carib passes Liberalisation Act of 1995
Caribbean Administrator, Fernando Sáenz, finally passed his long in the making 'Liberalisation Act', an act to legalise and regulate the cannabis industry as well as severely cutting down drug offences for cocaine, as well as a number of other drugs. In addition to this, prostitution has also been legalised, with brothels and any form of sex work now being legal (and taxable).

While the above mentioned the main changes, numerous other changes were made to "make the Caribbean the tourism capital of the world", in the Caribbean Tourism Director's words. Under Tolucan rule, steps were made to turn the Caribbean into a similar place, but were mostly forgotten until now.

Cameron Price, Administrator of Dakota, had this to say on the matter.
This ridiculous scheme concocted by the jumped up government in the Caribbean is sure to fail. It essentially makes the Caribbean an entirely different nation to the rest of the Federation.

The Act is set to go into affect as of October 1995. It's to be seen whether the newfound debauchery of the Caribbean Islands is enough to match the family friendly vacation zones of elsewhere in the Americas.

      London, Albion

Today, at 9am the General Secretary Mathew Frendly, the great leader of Albion for 23 years, was hospitalized at the London General Hospital for controls on his medical health. Unfortunately this not the first time the Secretary has visited the hospital for his heart condition.
A great crowd, fearing for the worst, has rushed to the place to show their support and closeness in these difficult times to the Leader that lead them for so many year with a firm and just hand.

Mo yin Zuigao Elected as New Chairman of Songjiang Reaffirms Qin Dynasty Territorial Claims

      Image

Mo yin Zuigao is the winner of the election to determine the new leader of Songjiang that had somehow managed to not make global news that it was taking place.
The Chairman's first act was to reaffirm all of Songjiang territorial claims from the Qin Dynasty era, as well as to enact sanctions on the nations holding those territories.
      Those territories are as follows
      Tibet, Mongolia, Korea, and Xinjiang.
As a result of this trade has stopped with the nations of Mongolia, the Joseon Empire and the Persian Sultanate. The Republic of Songjiang has called for other members of Glascom to do the same to show support for Songjiangs ancient territorial rights.

Parisian PM at APSIA: 'we must consider reunification'
      Image
Prime Minister Francouis speaking at the GA podium

The 50th APSIA General Assembly session began today with a rousing and controversial speech from the Parisian Prime Minister, Louis Louis Francouis. During the speech he echoed the principles listed in the APSIA Charter, and praised the work of the APSIA Security Council in maintaining peace in France for the past fifty years. The most controversial part of the speech came when Prime Minister Francouis made the argument for French reunification by claiming that the French States had changed for the better, and were ready to begin working together once more.

With the wise guidance of the APSIA Organization, the states of France have embraced peace and prosperity in the modern era, and the French Entente is undoubtedly the beginning of what should be a long term trend. There is no doubt that we must consider reunification as our end goal in this new era of French history. I urge all French people-- from the leaders and diplomats to the average men and women of our great lands-- to set aside the differences of the past, and work together towards a new, united future.

The speech was met with applause from many delegates in the Assembly, but a significant number opted to stay silent on the matter-- including delegates from Froussard. The speech has been criticized by some for having no real detailed plan. No word has been heard regarding the matter of reunification from the other French states yet, however, TV interviews in Paris have shown the speech to be immensely popular with the general population of Francouis' home nation.

Libyan Activist to the GA: 'the Trusteeship Council abandoned us'
      Image
Dr. Muhammad Jibril speaks passionately to the GA

Day two of the 50th APSIA General Assembly session featured speeches from various activists from around the globe, the most controversial of which was Dr. Muhammad Jibril, an Algiers born Libyan Sociologist whose citizenship was revoked and was forced to flee the Kingdom of Algiers after advocating for greater Libyan autonomy. Since fleeing in 1988, Jibril has lived in Froussard and worked as an advocate for democratic reforms in Africa.

Jibril spoke about his experiences living under the Algerian government as a Libyan, and related his stories back to a greater theme of advocating for democracy and reforming authoritarian rule. The most notable part of Dr. Jibril's speech came when he spoke about the APSIA Trusteeship Council, the Council which was formerly in charge of de-colonization practices, and has been suspended since January 1989. Jibril criticized the Trusteeship Council for focusing only on European colonization, and accused the Trusteeship Council of ignoring 'colonization by non-European powers', particularly Algiers and Yahel.

My colleagues and I knew that the Trusteeship Council had abandoned us in 1989. The news of it suspending operations landed on us like a heavy stone-- the one real hope we had for justice had just suspended it's operations.

Dr. Jibril's speech was met with mixed reactions, largely due to his criticism of an APSIA entity. Notably, the Algerian delegation exited the General Assembly Hall in protest as he began his speech.

Issues in the Balkans
Balkan Pact denounced by the Sultan

CONSTANTINOPLE, OGHUZ - Ever since its independence Asteria has been a thorne in Europe's side. Bad governments and general chaos have plagued this country, as well as hate against nations like Oghuz. Recently, a new development has arisen in the Balkans where Asteria and several other previously EC-aligned nations have started their own alliance. This is an obvious move to disrupt the balance of power in Europe - a clear act of aggression.

At noon on the 12th of July, the Sultan made an announcement denouncing the alliance as a whole, stating that Oghuz stands with the EC in the conflict. This is also a warning to Asteria not to continue this path. The Oghuz navy is currently on medium alert.

This was Erhan Katırcı reporting for Oghazetta.

El Universal CEO dead at 87

CIUDAD DE SAN PABLO, SANTA ROSA — After being rushed to the hospital following a heart attack, Leonardo Verga, the President and CEO of the El Universal Company, passed away at age 87.

Verga inherited the media corporation from his father in 1951 and oversaw record growth and expansion. During his 44-year tenure as CEO, the company became the second largest media company in Santa Rosa (second only to Canal 5) and El Universal became the most widely circulated newspaper in South America.

The Board of Directors of the Company has yet to choose a successor to Verga.

Cisplata governor orders state of emergency, crackdown on protesters

MONTEVIDEO, SANTA ROSA — Governor Esteban Blanco of the State of Cisplata has enacted a state of emergency following violent protests in the State's capital of Montevideo. The move comes after two State Police officers were killed in a standoff last Monday.

"We must return to order and security in our state. Violent riots will only lead to more chaos," Gov. Blanco said in an address from his office.

The riots started when the Ministry of Defense announced the construction of a new military base south of Montevideo. The pro-independence Platense National Movement (MNP) saw it as the final straw in what they saw as an erosion of their national sovereignty.

Patrizio Cortez, the chairman of the MNP, stated late last month that "Between colonial powers of Vitolia and Alicia and the neo-colonial powers of Grandi Alberi and Santa Rosa, [Cisplata has] been and continue to be a puppet of the powers that be. It is time that we take the reins of government and forge a new path for our people."

Cisplata was annexed into Santa Rosa three years ago after over a hundred thousand Santa Rosan troops invaded and forced the army of Grandi Alberi out and down south. Then-president Oppenheimer signed an order of annexation and Cisplata formally became a state of Santa Rosa.

Governor Blanco, who was one of the leads agitators against Grandi Alberi, has now pleaded for support from the federal government. However, President Terence Cola has been reluctant to provide resources. Cola himself called into question the annexation of Cisplata, saying "Cisplata was annexed during a period where the Constitution was not in effect... this must be something to consider."

With no powerful allies in the federal government, the Governor is on his own for now.

Foreign minister praises American reform bill, tourism minister wary

CIUDAD BELDAD, SANTA ROSA — Foreign minister Billy Marino stated his praise for a recent bill signed into law in the Caribbean state of the American Federation.

"The Liberalization Act of 1995 is a step in the right direction for the American Federation," Marino said. "The Federal government itself needs to take steps to protect the individual freedoms and rights of its citizens."

The Act, which was signed by Caribbean Administrator Fernando Sáenz, legalizes or reduces the penalties for various drug and sex crimes. The law was signed in a bid to attract more tourism to the Caribbean state of the American Federation, which has sparked some fervor from Santa Rosa's own tourism minister.

"We must step up our game to continue to stay competitive," minister Santiago de Shrout said. "Santa Rosa cannot give up the number-one-spot as the tourism capital of the hemisphere."

Bahia Negra students begin semester abroad in Mombasa

MOMBASA, MBALE — 500 students from Bahia Negra University's class of 1998 began their second year at the recently-opened college not on campus grounds, but thousands of miles away in Mombasa, Mbale.

The majority-black University, which is closely tied to the Mbali Catholic Church, offers students a "study abroad" program in Mombasa, where they have the chance to connect with Mbali culture and people up-close and in-person.

"The students of BNU have been among the brightest to ever study in Mombasa," said Mombasa mayor Lennerd Mufasi. "Their eagerness to learn of our culture, language, faith, is commendable. Especially since they still have to complete their general education courses on top of all this. These young negro students will undoubtedly change the course of black history and we are all richer for it. We can only hope that more of Santa Rosa's finest will choose to study at the UM in the future."

(OPINION) All traitors must bite the bullet

by Zella Stueck — Last month, several high-ranking officials from the military dictatorship were found guilty of high treason by the Supreme Court. Many were sentenced to death, and rightfully so. However, two of the most powerful men from the period, President Paul Oppenheimer and Vice President Yves Fiore, were simply given life sentences.

Why is it that these two men, who arguably have the most blood on their hands, get to live the rest of their lives cozily in an air-conditioned prison? Paul Oppenheimer, who is directly responsible for open-air concentration camps, mass executions, and the death of a sitting president, will receive five-star treatment at a federal penitentiary. Yves Fiore, who ordered battleships to fire missiles at Santa Rosan soil, will be joining him for bagels and locks every morning.

Justice must be fair and it must be even. If any of the regime bloodshedders deserve capital punishment, it's these two. They must be made examples for any would-be putschists to come.

President Azimov responds to the harsh statements of Oghuz

Earlier this week President Azimov held a press conference in response to the denouncement of the Balkan Pact by the Oghuzi "Sultan." The following is an excerpt of his speech:

It is quite evident that the people of Oghuz are still upset about their inability to quell our revolution in 1821. Their "Sultan" say we have "bad governments" and "general chaos" when unlike Oghuz we have had no major wars of rebellion, no riots, no protests, no dissents. The government has kept this country safe and innovative with bleeding efficiency, something the "Sultan" appears to be inept of. They say that Asteria holds "hate" against nations like Oghuz, a myriad of lies and fiction. We do not hold hate for the Turkish people, we only hold disappointment. We do not hate nations "like Oghuz", because no nations other than Oghuz have shown us blatant and unthoughtful aggressions.

On the matter of the Balkan Pact, it was not made as a clear act of aggression, it was made under the founding principles of the agreement: the consolidation of Balkan states. We strive to integrate our economies, cultures, and politics so that we may achieve a better future together, and when the defense of one member comes in question there is no doubt that their fellow brethren will aid in their defense. When one nation threatens a member of the Balkan Pact, they should keep in mind that they are vicariously threatening all members of our Pact.

A quote from the Sultan's speech: '...stating that Oghuz stands with the EC in the conflict. This is also a warning to Asteria not to continue this path.' I see many of you are looking at me with wide eyes, I was surprised too at the stupidity of this statement. There is no conflict between the EC and the Balkan Pact, so I could not begin to comprehend why Oghuz would want to infer there is one. And as for us not continuing our path, the people of Oghuz lost the privilege to dictate our future when we won our independence. We will not back down from our future.

His speech was met with rounds of applause and cheering from the audience, and was broadcasted on national television. Regardless of threats to our nation, we, as people of Asteria, will continue to drive forward nonetheless.

General Secretary Gorbachad announces 'end of term'
      Image
Gorbachad speaking at CPC convention in June

In an unprecedented move, General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachad has released a statement announcing his 'end of term': January 8th, 1996, a date in which the Gorbachad has stated he will step down from office, and the National People's Congress should have a new candidate chosen to be appointed to the office of the General Secretary. The move comes as a complete surprise, with almost no prior warning of such an announcement coming from the General Secretary's office. The decision to announce an end of term adds to a long list of established traditions of the General Secretary's office; as all previous leaders of the FPRP have either fallen sick or passed away while holding the office. This will likely make Gorbachad the first 'retired' General Secretary of the Communist Party of Pavlovsk.

The National People's Congress is already pressing the General Secretary's office for more answers as to what this announcement means for the Congress, but nothing more has been said by the office. Premier Lermontod will reportedly be before the National People's Congress to answer more questions on July 25th. Until then, it seems likely the NPC will continue to be embroiled in chaos.

NPC Congressman Yemelin announces General Secretary candidacy
      Image
Borov Yemelin speaks at the NPC

National People's Congress member Borov Yemelin has announced via a TV announcement in his home district that he will be looking to secure the appointment to the General Secretary's office after Gorbachad departs. Yemelin is a career politician who served as the mayor of Rykovograd for 8 years before becoming a Congressman in the NPC. He is a supporter of Gorbachad, and his policies largely follow those pushed by Gorbachad. However, Yemelin is an advocate for further democratic reform within Pavlovsk, and considers himself a 'democratic socialist'. If appointed, he has stated he will continue to work towards improving the Glasnost Community, and attempt to maintain the status quo of Pavlovski foreign affairs.

Yemelin is the first to make a formal announcement that he is seeking the appointment, setting what will likely be a trend for others to follow.

Illegal bowie knife fighting rings discovered in Kunt
      Image
Leaked footage of a bowie knife fight near Kunt

Last week journalists and news crews swarmed the Kunt Police Headquarters after information was leaked of a massive underground bowie knife fighting community existing throughout the greater cosmopolitan area of Kunt.

Police Chief Jonathan Blusberb had the following to say:

While news has only recently reached the public, we here at the Kunt police force would like to inform you that we have been aware of these "fighting rings" for several months, and have been actively investigating organisors, spectators and those partaking in the fights themselves. Due to the sheer amount of suspects we have been reluctant to reveal this horrible sport to the public. We would also like to inform the citizenry of the greater Kunt metropolitan area that arrests are already being made as I speak, and we encourage good samaritans to report any activity or persons related to this wretched fighting sport.

At the same time, the Sun-Herald was given access to an exclusive interview with Kunt mayor Dick Krust, who gave the following statement regarding the fighting sport:
Uh, yes. We are very shocked about this, uh, new, discovery, yes. This fighting sport is absolutely immoral, and I cannot for the life of me image what kind of, uh, horrible people would support this. Investigations!? Ah... Very good! Yes. I am, of course, being kept up to date about this... major... police investigation, and am very proud of our hard working officers on the street. I hope that these criminals are brought to justice as soon as... possible.

While shocking, bowie knife fighting has existed in Sentola far longer than one might think. The first recognised duel using bowie knives occured in 1901 between two brothers, and became extremely popular as a method of settling property and marriage disputes. Legal fighting clubs existed until 1973, when a ban on lethal sports was enacted by parliament.
Information regarding the actual size of the rings and its members has yet to be released to the public.

Breaking News - Songjiang formally declares war on Persia
      Image

BEIJING-- The government of Songjiang has formally declared war on the Persian Sultanate citing 'historical claims on Tibet'. The declaration comes just after the movement of approximately one million Songjiangese forces into Persia. Currently, the government of Songjiang is under heavy criticism for the invasion, particularly from the government of Nice-Pontivy and Paris. A security council on the matter seems likely, with figures such as Santa Rosan President Terence Cola and American President Eric McCarthy already calling for an emergency meeting.

Glascom
August 22, 1995

Public Dispatch - The Status of Songjiang

The Glasnost Community as a body is principally opposed to the invasion of the Persian Sultanate, and will be working tirelessly to re-establish peace within Central Asia. As a result of the invasion, the Glascom Parliament will also be holding a vote on whether or not to suspend the membership of the nation of Songjiang.

The Glasnost Community also urges the international community to not assist either side via military action or support unless via the APSIA Security Council, as it will only serve to amplify the situation, and as a result will push away any diplomatic outcomes.
