What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Reminds me of the show-trials of communist Russia. What a day for "liberty," when a man is nearly sentenced to death for speeding forward after being attacked by "anti-fascist" thugs. This had nothing to do with Nazism and everything to do with sending a political message.

Radical ideology does not necessitate violence, nor is it inherently violent. Any other perspective is obscenely prejudice.

I agree with this, but i'm comfortable with a life sentence being handed out in this case provided there is the possibility of parole given the nature of the crime. I think releasing him before he can satisfy a parole board poses a risk to the public given the motivation of the crimes, especially if he is not deradicalized and receives a heros welcome back to society from Nazi groups which could influence others to emulate his acts. I think the indiscriminate nature of the attack and intent to kill, alongside the motive, warrants life imprisonment with parole.

It's true there are more vicious and violent people who would not receive that sentence, but there are other factors in play.

Wrong. He's braking down 4th Street and it's only after the protester smashes the back of his car that he then accelerates. One can only imagine the trauma of having a gun pointed at you, and being confused all around, that manifested in this tragic car accident.

Also these are just the federal hate crime charges that he plead out.

He's still got the state charges that he was found guilty for that haven't been sentenced yet. That happens in two weeks. It would be extremely odd if he didn't get the full Life + 419 years that the jury suggested.
