Strike Group Essex: Personnel File

Required Information

Biography:
Charles was born a latecomer to a large Catholic farming family in rural Iowa. He had five older siblings, the youngest of which was six when Charles was born. As the youngest of the family, it was clear that he would not have a part to play at all on the farm later in life. There simply was not enough to do. This had its drawbacks, as his future was less secure than that of his older siblings, but on the other hand it gave him the opportunity to make a destiny for himself outside the few acres of farmland his family owned.

Of course, being the ‘family academic’ (Charles got the best grades because he didn’t have to do much labour) wasn’t all positive. Sure, he did well at school, but he was always left out a bit from the labour side of the family, and his siblings hated how much ‘free time’ Charles had. Of course, the boy spent those hours working for school, but that fact seemed unimportant for the general opinion. Only Pearce and Juliet, his eldest brother and sister, stood up for him. Pearce especially had a feeling of responsibility, and while he didn’t always understand what his little brother was up to, he did always vouch for him.

After graduating college, where he met his later husband, Charles made the monumental decision to become an officer in the US Marine Corps. His family had always instilled in him a sense of pride for his nation, and imbued with a love for freedom and democracy Charles felt that it was his duty to help protect that. Also, during his college education as a historian, he had read a lot about the Roman Republic, with its land-owning class of soldiers, and that inspired him as well. Having been raised a farm boy, even though he didn’t do as much as his other siblings, he did have the physical strength to make it through the hardest parts of the training.

Charles chose to join the Logistics Command Battalion of the UNMC, as supplying the troops with the necessary resources was something that was close to his heart. He had grown up on a farm, after all, and knew everything about supply lines and supply management, as well as water conservation and animal handling. Charles was attached to Combat Logistics Battalion 1, the Combat Logistics Battalion of the Amphibious Ready Group stationed in Japan. It was not a boring posting in the slightest, although it was far from a combat posting. As a result, Charles had a lot of free time to spend reading up on history, and actually contributing to the discourse on military history.

On May 12th 2019, with the Amphibious Ready Group conducting manoeuvres to the south of Japan, disaster struck. An unforeseen storm struck the Group with devastating effect. Charles, at that point a major and second-in-command of the battalion, was on the bridge of the amphibious transport dock ship when a heavy gust of wind combined with a gigantic wave shattered the glass panes, sending the shrapnel flying throughout the cabin. Those present ranged from wounded (such as Charles), severely injured (many of the other officers), and dead (the Lieutenant-colonel of CBL-1). In one fell swoop, and quite unexpectedly, Charles became the commanding officer of the entirety of CBL-1.

To add to that, after the landing and the first actions against the local garrison, and after storming the castle to liberate the surrounding towns and villages, captain Rogers saw it fit to appoint Charles as the provisional governor of the newly created ad-hoc UN Mandate of Corlean. In the eyes of Rogers, it was beneficial to have a historian, especially one in command of all the supplies of the mission, to lead the day-to-day governance of the small fief. There was truth to this, of course, as the Marines would have to draw a lot of resources from the land. Since then, Charles has made the castle his headquarters, both running the day-to-day administration as well as keeping a steady eye towards the ever-dwindling supply situation of the MEU.

Personality:
Major Charles Tavern is a dedicated soldier imbued with singular purpose. He wants The Mission to succeed, whatever it takes. As commander of the Combat Logistics Battalion, he feels responsible for the well-being of the Americans of his unit. He wants them to survive. He cares little for the world they have found themselves in, and cares only for getting them out again. Everything, from the Corlean empire to the enemy facing them to the people under their care, major Tavern sees everything in terms of survivability. How likely they are to make it through. This has made him a harsh officer, very strict on rules and very keen not to waste any resources, not really interested in good governance as much as how he can spend as little resources occupying the areas they do. However, Tavern is not a brute or a tyrant in the slightest. He is very dedicated to the mission, but there are lines he will not cross. He has a strong sense of legality, and feels bound to respect the Geneva Conventions even though the enemy is not.

Corlean Trust Territory
Motto: "First in Support"
Established under article 75 of the Charter of the United Nations, the Corlean Trust Territory is the official government responsible for governing the Empire of Corlean. Like in the days of decolonisation, the official idea is to ‘make the area safe for democracy’, to ensure that human rights are in future protected when the people of Corlean are ready to govern themselves. In the absence of either the General Assembly or the Security Council, the decision to create a trust territory unilaterally is of dubious legality, and the same goes for the decision to make major Tavern its governor. However, desperate times call for desperate measures, and it would be better to claim dubious legality than no legality at all.

The Trust Territory is governed via unilateral decree made by major Tavern, although he gets his orders from captain Rogers. The Trust Territory is mainly governed through benign neglect, letting the village elders do as they have done before. The only thing the major interferes with is resource management, making sure the troops are supplied with enough food and water. Slavery and torture have been outlawed, but in the small villages of the region that has not mattered as of yet. The main goal of the trust territory is to supply the mission with much-needed resources.

Both our recent apps look good. GCCS, the Major is accepted. As for Brusia, everything looks good beyond rank. It’s just a nitpicking point but I’m not too sure about the CMO being a CDR. If you’re fine with LCDR (O4) for him then I’ll call it a done deal. Though I’d like to see some more apps for our recon platoon come in.

Hey Legatia, this looks great! Wanted to ask what's the status of non-humans in the new world, and whether that pilot of yours is going to be flying helicopters or if she's mostly intended as an f35 pilot for now?

Non humans exist as a decently sized minority. Went into a little bit of detail on regards to the different races but feel free to run your own by me if you like.

As for Emily, she’s purely a 35 driver. She doesn’t fly any helicopters. Any reason in particular?

Most certainly, they are second class citizens at best. The Empire's human majority has nothing to gain by befriending elves and demihumans, although the elves maintain general degrees of autonomy in their own lands while demihumans are generally not independent enough to enjoy such privileges. Do tell me if you need any help with anything else.

Biography:
Maria was born in 1995 in Venezuela, the only child of Hugo Gutierrez, who worked for Petróleos de Venezuela. The Gutierrez family was quite wealthy, and closely aligned to the sitting government of Rafael Caldera. The family never lacked anything, being well-provided for by the large oil profits flowing in from abroad. Maria never lacked anything in those days, the food prepared every day by specialised chefs, and she was driven to kindergarten by the personal driver of the family.

In 1999, however, Hugo Chavez took over. At first, things seemed relatively fine, but his left-wing rhetoric was scaring ever more people, especially in the rich oil industry. Maria’s father participated in the 2002-2003 oil strikes, but when those failed in 2003 the family decided to flee to the United States. There, they set up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the hope of once more working for the oil industry. However, getting a job in that field was hard, since Hugo’s Venezuelan credentials were not accepted in the United States. Instead, Maria’s father went to work a gas station on the outskirts of town, making a meagre living for his family.

For Maria, who wanted to become a doctor when she grew up, the move was devastating. However, her mother never allowed her to give up hope. Together, they looked for the most feasible way to get her through college. At high school, she was always a strong character, beating up the bullies who tried to tease her with her accent and heritage. As such, there was no fear that she wouldn’t make it through boot camp. After finishing high school, Maria enlisted with the marines, both because she wanted a challenge and because she wanted to be one of the first women in active service.

Boot camp proved incredibly tough. Not only were the physical conditions back-breaking, but there was also societal pressure on her to quit. As one of the first women going through boot camp, there was pressure on the sergeants not give her any leeway. However, despite nearly giving up half a dozen times, Maria persevered, and she was placed with the marines of the Amphibious Ready Group. She wasn’t quick to rise up the ranks, but her can-do attitude helped her through plenty of difficulty, as did her boundless motivation. Becoming a doctor was still on her mind, and she would let nothing divert her from that path.

After landing in the New World, Maria was of course stunned. Immediately, there was a unofficial, unspoken rule that people wouldn’t talk about what happened. It just happened, better to live with it. However, many still wondered what exactly had gone down. Maria was amazed by the wonder of what they found, a truly medieval world right before their eyes. She was profoundly puzzled by the similarities between Spanish and the language spoken here, and interested as she was, she took up learning it from the hastily distributed handbooks made by some linguistics experts. Having gotten the hang of the rudimentary aspects of the tongue, she volunteered for herself and her squad for the recon platoon.

Personality:
Maria is driven, determined and motivated to do whatever is asked of her. She will not complain, not even sigh, when given a shit job to do. She will be quick to volunteer for shit or dangerous jobs, very eager to prove herself in the field. Beyond being motivated due to external factors, Maria is a curious person who loves to learn about new cultures and customs. Already, she has taken a liking to the intricacies of the local dialect, and she spends as much time as she can chatting up locals.

In some of the Marks out to the South East, notably Caeven, they might get better treatment. The previous and current Marquess both formed decent personal and diplomatic relations with some of the Demihumans and Elves, and the people are better about it as well, though some of it stems from the fact it's easier than constantly having to fight with them Shrug

Biography: Cassandra (known as Cassie or Cass for short) Newman was born on February 25th, 2000 in a sleepy little coastal called Arcadia Bay in Oregon to Richard Newman, a minister, and Maria Newman, a stay at home mother. As she grew up her mother gave birth to two more daughters, the first one, Mary, in 2001. The second one though, Lynn, arrived with tragedy in 2003, when their mother passed away giving birth to her. Maria's death wrought on distraught for the surviving Newman family. While Richard was able to move on through his work with the church, the three Newman daughters would grow up not fully knowing or remembering what their mother was like.

Cass and her siblings grew up under the care of their aunt, Elena Linde with a relatively normal childhood, albeit with a little more prayer. Trips to Portland and to the nearby beach, camping trips, and at times to the hospital, partly because of broken or sprained limbs, but also because when Elena needed to care for them when their father was busy, she normally took them with her to work at the hospital, given that all three of them for the most part were well behaved. It was these times that gave Cass an insight into the medical field, or at least for some sort of medical care. Oftentimes her father would make time to play with them as well, something that was a constant until all three daughters outgrew it.

Cass' father remarried in 2014 with Fiona Gatsby. Though she was more affluent, her personality was anything but motherly. She put up a caring and admiring façade for their father, but was rather neglectful and abusive when she was alone with the three daughters. Whether it would be slaps to the cheeks, or beratements which tore everyone down, their father didn't take much notice since the girls would often hide their wounds, and seldom speak for fear of further beratement. However, Cass, often the defacto leader of the group of daughters, would often pick them up and walk them straight over to the hospital so Elena could take care of them. Along the way throughout high school, Cassie found herself picking up some of the methods to first aid from her experiences taking care of her sisters and helping her aunt. With her help, she managed to learn CPR.

High school itself was relatively normal for Cass. She was often the quiet one who seldom had hung out with any clique or group. Sure, she did try her luck on trying to talk to more people, but oftentimes nothing bore much fruit for her troubles. However, there was one friend who stood out. One Michelle Collins, who Cass had known since elementary through various playdates set up by Cass' aunt Elena and Michelle's mother after they both met in the hospital. Their bond had grown stronger in high school, so much to the point where both had agreed to try to go even further. However, due to fear of further beratement from her mother and additional admonishment from her father, someone she still looked up to, Cassie for the most part kept her relationship a secret.

However, when prom rolled around, the cat was already out of the bag, and so Cass faced the full-on brunt of her stepmother. While her father was away giving a sermon, her stepmother forced her to pack her things, and kicked her out of the house. Cass came to prom in her aunt's old '97 Corolla, fragilely stoic and a little scared, much to the concern of her date. Her father divorced from her stepmother soon afterwards, but it was too late. The damage had been done, and it would take time for the family to recover. Her own father, though disgusted by his second wife's actions, still knew little on what he could do with this development, and so asked for Cass to not return home for the time being.

And thus, with little options for the time being, and under advice from her councilor given her interest in being in the medical field, Cass decided to join the Navy to sort through the mess of her life. She broke off her relationship with Michelle, though both remained close friends, and for the sake of being a good father, Richard decided to go with his daughter's and his sister-in-law to Cass' graduation to take one final picture. Cass left for basic, then for deployment still under an uncertain future with herself, and her family.

Personality: Due to her childhood growing up both under the care of her aunt, and caring for her own sisters, Cass had developed a sense of caring and empathy, as well as a strong sense of morality given both her line of work and her father's upbringing as a Christian. Her mastery of art classes in high school helped her develop an artistic modem to express her feelings and to help her stay down to earth. Though navy basic and marine training had helped her deal with her own negative aspects, she still remains somewhat cautious, introverted, and meek due to the abuse she had under her stepmother.

Biography: Raven Imada is the biproduct of a US Navy Senior Chief and a young Japanese waitress from Tokyo who visited San Diego as a tourist. Meeting at a bar, these two instantly locked eyes, found love and became a couple faster than anyone could’ve imagined. Raven Imada was born a year into their relationship, her birth name being Benjamin and originally born male. Raven grew up normally in this generation; playing video game, watching cartoons, playing catch and being in little league baseball. However, at the age of 11, Benjamin began to act differently from other boys and began attempting to act like a girl. Surprises, the two parents observed their child until Benjamin, at the age of 14, expressed signs of Gender Dysphoria. After two years of therapy and mental health assistance, Benjamin decided to transition to female. Two years into the process and Benjamin received hormone treatment, in-life experience and even surgery. At the age of 18, Benjamin had completed transition and had been under the name Raven since the beginning of her journey. After graduating high school, she looked for her future and resorted to the USMC. Despite strict guidelines before, the USMC allowed her into Basic and she trained with an all female unit. After training, she set out to become an Assault Marine, training in demolitions and breaching and infiltration techniques. Despite her medical history and her former identity, Raven Imada is a solid Marine judged by her actions.

“Let’s spend of that tax payer money, shall we?” She would mutter to herself, her dinger twitching as her focus would be squarely on blowing the wall in front of her into bits and pieces. “God, this is gonna be loud...”

“FIRE IN THE HOLE! FIRE IN THE HOLE! FIRE IN THE HOLE!!!” With a pull of the trigger, the launcher would send its ordinance flying into the wall, the loud, thunderous and deafening explosion shaking the ground as the explosion itself would send debris flying in all directions and smoke into the sky. Raven would lower the SMAW, blowing at the barrel and smirking at the destruction delivered by the launcher.

Obligatory not a Co-OP notice.

From what I've been able to tell, it was a US based formation training with her allies when the Warp-Storm hit. Since it was US allies, it is likely it was some sort of RIMPAC type ordeal and from what I've been able to find China was dis-invited because of their military activities in the SCS, so the plausibility imo is kind of low. From what I've been able to tell, it was a US based formation training with her allies when the Warp-Storm hit. Since it was US allies, it is likely it was some sort of RIMPAC type ordeal and from what I've been able to find China was dis-invited because of their military activities in the SCS, so the plausibility imo is kind of low. If there’s one storm that sends these ships to another world, logically there must also be more storms which bring over other ships.
